John Carew leads exodus from West Ham

John Carew and Julien Faubert head the list of players West Ham will release
when their contracts expire next month. Faubert has been at Upton Park for
five seasons after signing from Bordeaux in July 2007 and made his final
appearance for the club when he came on as a second-half substitute in last
weekend's Championship Play-off Final victory over Blackpool. Former
Valencia striker Carew joined West Ham on a free transfer at the beginning
of the season after spells at Aston Villa and Stoke but he will not have his
deal renewed after making just seven Championship starts.

Also leaving West Ham following the end of one-year deals will be central
defender Abdoulaye Faye and midfielder Papa Bouba Diop. Young striker Frank
Nouble, who made 19 first-team appearances for the club, has also been
released along with Ollie Lee, son of former Charlton and Newcastle star Rob
Lee.

West Ham, meanwhile, are expected to tie up a permanent deal with Sunderland
for left-back George McCartney, while other players who have already been
linked with a move to the East London club are Wolves winger Matt Jarvis and
Sunderland's Kieron Richardson. The chances of a return to West Ham for Joe
Cole appear to be receding after the former England midfielder revealed he
wants to prove himself at Liverpool following his loan spell at French club
Lille, while speculation continues to link Blackburn goalkeeper Paul
Robinson with a move to Upton Park should Rob Green decide against accepting
a new contract offer.
