Ljungberg and Sweden lose late - WHUFC
A late winner from David Villa means Freddie Ljungberg's Sweden have to get
a result in their final Group D game at Euro 2008
14.06.2008

Freddie Ljungberg saw a last-gasp goal from David Villa consign Sweden to a
2-1 defeat in their second game at the Euro 2008 finals.

The West Ham United midfielder's national team had almost done enough to
earn a draw against their much-fancied opponents until Valencia striker
Villa struck deep into added time for a 2-1 victory. Ljungberg again played
a full 90 minutes and also had a chance of his own to score just before the
late winner at the other end. Fernando Torres had opened the scoring for
Spain in the first half before Zlatan Ibrahmovic had levelled matters.
Sweden's hopes of progressing to the quarter-finals now rest with their
match against Russia on Wednesday night.

Elsewhere on Saturday, John Pantsil was also on the losing side as Ghana
went down 2-0 in Gabon in their latest qualifier for the 2010 World Cup.
Pantsil played a full part in a result which means the Black Stars still
head their section but will need to return to winning ways when Gabon travel
to Accra on Sunday week. Finally, Lucas Neill has been buoyed by Australia's
3-1 defeat of Qatar in Doha that means the Socceroos have made it to the
second stage of Asian qualifying for the 2010 World Cup before their final
group game against China in Sydney next week. Two goals from Brett Emerton
and another from Harry Kewell were enough to ensure victory.

West Ham release veteran Solano - BBC

West Ham have decided to release veteran winger Nolberto Solano after just
one season at Upton Park. The 33-year-old joined the Hammers in August 2007
from Newcastle, and made 23 league appearances for the club. Solano has
ruled out a return to St James' Park, but the Peruvian is hoping to continue
playing in England. "I am looking for another club. I hope to stay in
England for another two years and after that, I will return to Peru," he
said. Solano enjoyed two spells at Newcastle before his family situation
forced him to look for a club in London. "Everybody knows what I feel about
Newcastle and those fans, but it would be difficult to ever return there,"
added Solano, who also had a spell with Aston Villa. "The reason I was
forced to leave Newcastle was because of family reasons, and that situation
has not changed."

Neill set for Oz return - KUMB
Filed: Friday, 13th June 2008
By: Staff Writer

Lucas Neill is looking to return to Australia once his contract at West Ham
United has ended. Fox Sports reports today that the United and Socceroos
captain, who holds a financial interest in the Inspire Sports Group is part
of a bid to set up a new professional Sydney-based club. Neill's business
manager, Paddy Dominguez refused to say exactly what Neill's role would be -
but stressed that he was determined to put something back into Australian
football. "As far as Lucas is concerned, he has a huge emotional attachment
to this," said Dominguez. "When he eventually quits Europe he'll come back
here to play for the franchise. Lucas has shown with his player scholarship
scheme in the Manly district that he wants to make a significant
contribution. He wants to leave a lasting legacy for Australian soccer. "It
is an exciting concept and we believe it will be great for the sport in this
country."
The new club will be aiming to enter the Australian A-League, the country's
premier football competition. Although primarily made up of local talent
Dominguez has also promised one or two players that 'will blow your mind'.
The new club aim to be playing league football in the 2009/10 season. Neill
joined the Hammers on a two-and-a-half-year contract in January 2007.

The cull begins - KUMB
Filed: Friday, 13th June 2008
By: Staff Writer

West Ham United have released four youth team stars as they begin what is
rumoured to be a series of summer cutbacks. Defender Lorcan Fitzgerald and
midfielder Lee Hales have both been released whilst academy trainees Robbie
Blackwell and Ben Hunt have not been offered professional contracts. The
club have also confirmed the release of 33-year-old midfielder Nobby Solano,
who has been given a free transfer just ten months after joining the club.
The Hammers have been widely tipped to offload a number of fringe players
this summer with the likes of Luis Boa Morte, Bobby Zamora, Carlton Cole and
Lee Bowyer most under threat. Rumours linking Freddie Ljungberg with a move
to Serie A's Roma also continue to persist; the Italians are reportedly
interested in landing the Swedish international although his excessive wages
are said to be a sticking point.

Nobby narked -KUMB

Nobby Solano has been speaking of his disappointment at not being offered a
new contract by the Hammers. Solano, 33, joined the Hammers on transfer
deadline day last August on a one-year deal with an option to extend by a
further 12 months. But with Alan Curbishley having a number of options on
the right of midfield - including Freddie Ljungberg, Julien Faubert and
Kieron Dyer - the veteran Puruvian has been released after just one season
with the club.
"When the manager spoke to me and said that he was allowing me to go I was
shocked and disappointed," Solano told Setanta Sports. "I think the reason
he has let me go is that he has plenty of other players at Upton Park who
can play on the right. "Now I am looking for another club. I hope to stay in
England for another two years, and after that I will return to Peru."
Solano, who moved to London for personal reasons also confirmed that he was
unlikely to return to the North East where he spent several years with
Newcastle. "Everybody knows what I feel about Newcastle," he added, "but it
would be difficult for me to ever return there." Solano made 23 appearances
for the Hammers last season (including nine substitute appearances), scoring
four goals.

Pompey linked with £4m swoop for Barca striker - lep.co.uk

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is set to launch a £4m bid for Barcelona's
Eidur Gudjohnsen, who is also wanted by West Ham United and Newcastle
United, according to reports. The Daily Mirror claims that Pompey have
stepped-up their move for the former Chelsea star as a deal for Liverpool's
Peter Crouch looks unlikely. Redknapp told the Mirror: "Eidur is a good
player, a proper player and it does look like he will be leaving Barcelona.
"He is someone I know, and is friends with my son Jamie."

QPR to clinch permanent deal for West Ham's Zamora

Is Bobby Zamora Mad! - Vital Football ( Fulham )

It`s a simple question isn`t it? Now I don`t belong in the camp that reckon
Bobby Zamora can do a decent job for us but it still galls me to read that
the West Ham United forward is looking to sign for Queens Park Rangers. And
it`s not because I`ve got anything against Queens Park Rangers either, I
just think it shows a right lack of ambition to drop out of the Premier
League to play Championship football. It can`t even be the money because it
seems that West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers will split his salary
whilst he spends next season on loan at Loftus Road.
Strange bloke! Anyone seen the men in white coats?

West Ham's Neill involved with Sydney A-League franchise bid
tribalfootball.com - June 13, 2008

The group behind a proposed western Sydney A-League club can boast Australia
skipper Lucas Neill in their ranks and are claiming they will change the
country's sporting landscape. Details are still sketchy, but the bid looms
as a serious threat to the dominance of Sydney FC. The club, which is nine
months into development, has impressed Football Federation Australia and has
the inside running to join Sydney FC as the second Sydney-based side in an
expanded A-League competition. Socceroos and West Ham United captain Neill
is said to be part of the club, although the exact level of his involvement
is uncertain. Lucas' Australian-based manager Paddy Dominguez confirmed the
company he works for, Inspire Sports Group, is behind the bid. "We have been
working tirelessly on this for nine months and we are ready to go as soon as
the 2009-2010 season," Dominguez said. "It is an exciting concept and we
believe it will be great for the sport in this country."

Wakey Wakey Curbs, Smell the Coffee! - Cmon Yu Irons
13 Jun
Posted by Joe J

Am i alone in thinking Curbs is asleep? didnt he have enough sleep during
the second half of last season? Transfers are flying about all over the
Premier League, and Spurs making some decent signings, Ramos is obviously a
manager that has the foresight to get the right players to push his team to
a better level next season.

What is Curbs doing? ermmmm not a lot, are we to wait until the end of the
transfer window to beg a couple of players again at ridiculous salaries to
join us?

Where is Nani? not 1 word has been mentioned about him in the last 2 weeks,
is he joining us to buy players or get rid of some of the crap we already
have, we are taking too long to buy, we as fans need to hear news soon other
than the rumours that fly around the blogs and media sites.

And what is happening about the new stadium? again another fart in the wind,
if your going to make promises BG than the worst fans in the world to let
down would be West Ham Fans, WE forgive but never forget.
