Blair Turgott is hoping to become the fourth West Ham United player to
become a FIFA World Cup winner
08.06.2011
Blair Turgott is dreaming of becoming the fourth West Ham United and England
player to become a FIFA World Cup winner. The Academy midfielder has been
named in England's squad for the FIFA U17 World Cup finals, which take place
in Mexico between 18 June and 10 July. Should the 17-year-old help the Young
Lions to win the tournament he would, of course, follow in the footsteps of
Bobby Moore, Martin Peters and Geoff Hurst, who famously lifted the Jules
Rimet trophy back in 1966. Turgott believes England have a fantastic chance
of being crowned U17 world champions for the first time in the nation's
history. "It's definitely going to be a great experience, as playing at the
World Cup at any level is a massive thing for any footballer. It should be
good," he told whufc.com "U17 is the first age-group level at which a World
Cup is held, so this is our first opportunity to play in such a massive
tournament. "Mexico have been preparing for this tournament for two years,
so they will want to put on a good show. Hopefully we'll get to see some of
the country when we're not training and playing, too. "I think we should be
confident of giving a good account of ourselves. I don't see why we cannot
go out there and win it."
England qualified for the World Cup courtesy of reaching the semi-finals of
the UEFA European Championship finals, which were held in Serbia in May.
Despite being beaten 1-0 by the Netherlands in the last-four, Turgott
believes England have what it takes to go all the way in Mexico, where they
have been paired with Uruguay, Canada and Rwanda in Group C. "We didn't do
ourselves justice at the EUROs and we're determined to make up for that at
the World Cup. Holland are going to be tough opponents again and you can
never rule out Brazil, either, but we feel we've got a good chance. "In our
group, we have got Uruguay, who came second in the South American
Championship, and Rwanda, who finished second in the African Championship,
so it's not going to be easy. As England, though, we should feel that we can
play our game and we can beat any team we come up against."
Aside from Turgott himself, the West Ham youngster has earmarked Chelsea
defender Nathanial Chalobah and Everton forward Hallam Hope as two players
to watch at the tournament. Before they kick-off against Rwanda in Pachuca
on 19 June, however, John Peacock's squad will leave nothing to chance in
their preparation for the competition. "We fly out to Mexico on 8 June and
will train at a camp in Mexico City. We've got a warm-up game against Ivory
Coast at the Azteca Stadium on 12 June which will be an amazing experience
as it holds about 106,000! "After that we travel to Pachuca to our training
base there before we get going against Rwanda. "All being well, we'll be out
in Mexico for five weeks, but I won't mind that if we win the World Cup."

Wycombe tickets to go on sale

Tickets will go on sale on Monday morning for the pre-season friendly at
Wycombe Wanderers
08.06.2011
An initial allocation of 500 tickets for West Ham United's pre-season
friendly at Wycombe Wanderers will go on sale on Monday 13 June. The Hammers
will make the short trip to tackle the Chairboys on Saturday 23 July for
what should be a mouth-watering 90 minutes as new manager Sam Allardyce and
his squad prepare for the 2011/12 npower Championship campaign.
Tickets, which are priced at £12 for Adults, £6 for Seniors and Students and
£4 for Juniors, will go on sale from 9am on Monday morning. Disabled ticket
information for this fixture will follow shortly.
Supporters can buy tickets by calling personally at the West Stand Ticket
Office, calling 0871 222 2700 and selecting Option 3 or by sending a cheque,
postal order or credit card payment - made payable to West Ham United FC plc
- to The Ticket Office, PO Box 6731, London, E13 9RA.
Fans should note that all telephone and postal bookings are subject to a
£1.50 per ticket booking fee for season ticket holders and Academy members
and £2 per ticket for non-members.
Wycombe, who will be in confident mood after gaining promotion to League One
last term, last hosted the Hammers in July 2003 (pictured). Then, as now,
West Ham had been relegated from the Premier League, with Wycombe running
out 3-1 winners against a visiting side that included David James, Joe Cole,
Jermain Defoe and Michael Carrick. One present-day link between the two
clubs comes in the shape of Czech Republic Under-21 goalkeeper Marek Stech,
who played one game on loan at Adams Park in March 2009. The two sides have
met just three times in competitive matches previously. In the most recent
of those meetings, Tony Cottee and Kenny Brown were on target as the Hammers
scored a 2-0 FA Cup third-round victory at Wycombe in January 1995. Prior to
that, West Ham were known as Thames Ironworks FC when they met Wycombe in
the Southern League Second Division during the 1898/99 season, winning 4-1
in both matches.

Sullivan: let the signings commence
KUMB.com
Filed: Wednesday, 8th June 2011
By: Staff Writer
David Sullivan has revealed that West Ham's first summer signing could
happen by the end of next week. West Ham's co-chairman is busy working
through a list of targets given to him by manager Sam Allardyce, who begins
his new role on Monday, 20 June upon his return from a family holiday. And
according to Sullivan, the first nwe arrivals could be confirmed before
Allardyce returns from Spain. Speaking in the Daily Telegraph this morning,
he revealed that "we are in negotiations for five players and could confirm
at least one signing next week."
The identity of those players will be the subject of much speculation but it
is thought that Kevin Nolan, DK Campbell and Southend youngster Kane
Ferdinand are three currently being considered. Nolan - who featured for
Allardyce at Bolton and then at Newcastle - has two years of his current
deal left to run in the North East but has failed to agree terms on a
contract extention. The 28-year-old could be tempted to play in the
Championship in order to renew his working relationship with Allardyce.
Campbell, who currently plays for Blackpool - relegated along with West Ham
last month - is said to have a £1.25million release clause in his contract
and has experience of being involved in a Championship promotion campaign.
Meanwhile centre-half Ferdinand - cousin to former Hammers Rio and Anton -
is understood to have been watched on several occasions by West Ham, who one
source yesterday claimed were poised to make a concrete offer for the
highly-rated 18-year-old.

Nolan bid rejected

Sources in the North East are claiming that Newcastle have rejected West Ham
United's £3million bid for club captain Kevin Nolan. As revealed here on
KUMB.com earlier, the Hammers were hoping to make Nolan their first capture
of the summer. However the Chronicle is reporting this lunchtime that West
Ham's offer has been flatly rejected. However the deal still appears to be
alive with Newcastle thought to be willing to sell - but holding out for a
figure closer to the £4million they paid Bolton for Nolan's services
two-and-a-half years ago. New West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is a big fan of
the 28-year-old Newcastle captain, who made his first team debut at the
Reebok Stadium under Allardyce in 1999. He is also thought to be closely
monitoring Nolan's fellow Liverpudlian Joey Barton, who has 12 months
remaining on his contract at St James Park.

Hammers rebuild well under way
Negotiations ongoing for five summer transfer targets
Last Updated: June 8, 2011 7:59am

West Ham's rebuilding process is well under way and the Upton Park club
could successfully conclude negotiations for one of five players next week.
The Hammers were relegated from the Premier League and new boss Sam
Allardyce is setting about making his mark on the squad he inherited from
Avram Grant. Alan Smith has been linked with West Ham after Sky sources
suggested that the midfielder has been told he can leave Newcastle. There
have also been reports of moves for Liverpool's former West Ham player, Joe
Cole, and Blackburn's El Hadji Diouf. Allardyce has played down the
speculation, but Hammers co-chairman David Sullivan said in the Daily
Telegraph: "We are in negotiations for five players and could confirm at
least one signing next week." Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan, who Allardyce
knows well after signing his former Bolton colleague when managing at St
James' Park, has also been reported as a target. The midfielder is
understood to have rejected a two-year contract extension in the North East
because he wants a five-year deal. Blackpool striker DJ Campbell is another
man who is thought to be on Allardyce's wish-list after scoring 13 goals for
the Bloomfield Road club last season.

Collison in Hammers talks
By ANDREW DILLON
Published: Today
The Sun
JACK COLLISON is having crunch talks with West Ham to seek reassurances
about his future. The midfielder is meeting Hammers vice-chairman Karren
Brady on Thursday amid speculation of a firesale of the club's best players
following relegation. Collison, 22, returned from a year out with a serious
knee injury in the final weeks of the season and has rekindled his Wales
career. Stoke are among the Premier League clubs showing interest in
Collison even though he still has two years left on his contract. He is one
of the young players new boss Sam Allardyce wants to rebuild the team around
in a bid to bounce straight back into the top flight.
West Ham are braced to lose midfield leader Scott Parker and have made a bid
for Newcastle's Kevin Nolan. But with Victor Obinna's loan from Inter Milan
unlikely to continue, Gary O'Neil injured and Kieron Dyer out of contract,
there are gaps in midfield.

Newcastle out to land Hammer on the cheap

Newcastle are plotting a cut-price deal for West Ham striker Demba Ba. Ba,
26, hit seven goals for the Irons last season after arriving from the
Bundesliga in January, but couldn't save them from relegation. The Magpies
hope the Senegal international's injury history will now lead to a cheap
move.

Newcastle turn down £3m West Ham bid for Nolan
ShieldsGazette.co.uk
By ROSS GREGORY
Published on Wednesday 8 June 2011 12:30
NEWCASTLE United have turned down an audacious £3m bid for captain Kevin
Nolan from West Ham United. Sources in London confirmed to the Gazette that
the Hammers made a surprise swoop for the Magpies skipper last night, only
to be knocked back by owner Mike Ashley. New West Ham boss Sam Allardyce was
keen to be reunited with Nolan, having made the midfielder his captain at
Bolton Wanderers. But the failed United manager has been told he must up his
bid for a player that Newcastle paid £4m for in January 2009 if he wants to
bring him to Upton Park.
The Gazette revealed last week that Nolan was set to turn down the new deal
offered to him by Ashley, something which was confirmed over the weekend. It
came hard on the heels of the revelation that Joey Barton's contract talks
have also stalled, with the midfielder having only a year left on his
present deal. The Scouse duo have been hugely influential for Newcastle in
the last two seasons, first helping the club win the Championship and then
steering the Magpies to Premier League safety. Nolan, who will turn 29 next
month, has two years left on his current deal, and is keen to remain on
Tyneside to see out the peak years of his career – as is Barton. But United
appear unwilling to have players in the 30-plus bracket on long contracts,
meaning Nolan – who hit 12 goals this season – may have to take a
substantial pay cut if he wants to stay at St James's Park. That has alerted
Allardyce, who is looking to guide West Ham back into the top flight at the
first attempt, and he is hoping to link up again with a player who played a
crucial role in helping transform Bolton from a Championship play-off outfit
into European material.

NUFC reject £3m bid for skipper Kevin Nolan
by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle
Jun 8 2011
NEWCASTLE UNITED have turned down a bid for captain Kevin Nolan from West
Ham United – according to sources in London's East End. The Toon captain was
the subject of a £3m offer from the Hammers last night, with his former
Bolton Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce keen to be reunited with Nolan at Upton
Park as he looks to lead West Ham out of the Championship at the first
attempt. Yet if the failed United boss harbours any hopes of capturing Nolan
he must up his bid for whom Newcastle paid £4m in January 2009. Both Nolan
and Allardyce – who is also understood to have an interest in Joey Barton –
helped transform the Trotters from a Championship play-off outfit into
European material until Big Sam's departure in 2007.
Nolan recently rejected a new deal with the Magpies, but the paltry initial
bid for the Scouser was always likely to be knocked back given the
28-year-old's contributions this season which resulted in 12 goals – one
more than England star Wayne Rooney. Nolan will turn 29 this month but was a
key figure in uniting the dressing room in the aftermath of relegation and
is keen to remain on Tyneside to see out the peak years of his career. Yet
with United seemingly unwilling to have players in the 30 plus bracket on
long contracts, it appears that Nolan's hopes of a long-term deal are slim
unless he is prepared to take a pay cut. This was underlined by confirmation
that Alan Smith will be allowed to leave on a free transfer this summer,
while Barton has already been told there is no new contract offer on the
table for him when his current deal runs out next summer. But despite
reports, when Big Sam was asked if he was interested in Smith, he simply
replied: "No."
