Tickets for the Millwall match have gone on sale to Academy members
10.01.2012
Fans have been snapping up their tickets for the London derby with Millwall
on Saturday 4 February after they went on sale to members on Tuesday. With
away supporters allocated the upper tier of the Sir Trevor Brooking Stand
and no home fans in the lower section, the resulting reduced capacity means
5,000 fewer tickets are available to buy for the 12.30pm match. It is also
not due to be broadcast on television. If any tickets still remain after the
initial selling period to Academy members, they will then be released on
general sale from Tuesday 17 January. To secure your seat now now, click
here to visit the West Ham United Box Office.
Please note that no tickets will be available to buy on the day and tickets
can only be bought by fans with a previous purchase history with the club.

George eyes Pompey win

George McCartney believes the Hammers will bounce back from the weekend's
disappointment
10.01.2012
George McCartney felt a mixture of pride and disappointment following
Sunday's FA Cup with Budweiser third-round defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.
The left-back began the afternoon by leading West Ham United out at
Hillsborough as captain for the first time, but was left feeling low after a
1-0 reverse saw them knocked out of the competition at the first hurdle. The
popular defender, who is enjoying a strong season after re-joining the
Hammers on a season-long loan from Sunderland, admitted to having mixed
emotions about his afternoon. "It was great for me for me to lead the team
out - a real honour and a proud moment," he said. "Obviously it was a shame
we lost the game but when I was told I was being captain, I was pleased and
it was nice for me. "I am enjoying being back here at West Ham and so it was
good to have that extra boost of wearing the armband. I think if anything
like that is asked of you, it is a great thing to do."
Now 30, McCartney is experienced enough to know when a team should triumph
and admitted the Hammers missed too many opportunities at Hillsborough. The
profligacy proved costly as Chris O'Grady fired Wednesday through with an
88th-minute winner. The Belfast-born player said West Ham could not afford
to be so wasteful when they head to Portsmouth in the npower Championship on
Saturday. "We had enough chances to win the game. We know that and we have
to take that fact as why we lost the game. As the gaffer said, we didn't
finish off our chances. I felt we played well enough to win. It was
disappointing to lose but there were a lot of positive things. "You don't
want to lose any game, in the cup or in the league, but we move on now and
have an important game at Portsmouth next week. We got three points against
Coventry in our last league game and now we will look to try and get a
result at Portsmouth and hopefully get a little run going again in the
league."
While Sunday's defeat was clearly hugely disappointing, McCartney was
impressed with many of the younger players he lined up alongside. Following
the substitutions of John Carew and Gary O'Neil, the No3 was the only West
Ham player on the pitch over the age of 25 for the final stages of the tie.
McCartney was impressed with the likes of Dan Potts, Rob Hall, Henri
Lansbury, Frank Nouble and Brian Montenegro and beileves all could play
their part in the Hammers' quest for promotion back to the Premier League.
"I was probably one of the older ones! There were a few young lads out there
as the Gaffer made a few changes, but they did well and dug in.
"Obviously we will have some players back in for Portsmouth that didn't play
there and that will strengthen us, but there are a few young lads looking to
catch the Gaffer's eye and I am sure we will see more of them as the season
goes on."

Sagbo seeks West Ham move
Allardyce could be set to make £2million bid for striker
By Giscard Gourizro. Last Updated: January 10, 2012 11:44am

West Ham have been boosted in their reported pursuit of Yannick Sagbo after
the Evian striker admitted a move to Upton Park would be 'ideal'. Scouts of
Sam Allardyce's Championship promotion contenders are said to have watched
the £2million-rated Benin international in French Cup action at the weekend.
And now Sagbo, who is a half-brother of West Ham defender Guy Demel, has
indicated he would relish a move to England. The 22-year-old told Sky
Sports: "Joining West Ham would be ideal for me. "I love the Premier League,
even though West Ham are in the Championship, which is also a top league. "I
want to be part of a team who will make progress. But nothing is done yet,
so I am happy where I am. "But I would love the opportunity to play in
England in my career."

West Ham's new Rhodes is rejected
Published 22:30 10/01/12 By Alan Nixon
The Mirror
West Ham have failed with yet another bid for Huddersfield hot-shot Jordan
Rhodes. Hammers boss Sam Allardyce went in with a number that was higher
than previous offers for the striker, but lower than the League One club
anticipated - and Terriers owner Dean Hoyle threw out the proposal. The
Championship promotion chasers are willing to pay a guaranteed £3million,
after having previous staged-payment deals rejected. Rhodes - the top scorer
in the country with 25 goals after scoring FIVE against Wycombe last week -
is interested in the move, but West Ham will have to raise their bid to
convince Hoyle.

Yannick Sagbo Plays It Cool Over West Ham United Interest Print for later?
Insidefutbol.com
Wednesday, 11th January, 2012
West Ham United have fixed their eyes on Evian striker Yannick Sagbo. The
23-year-old, who has been something of a surprise package in Ligue 1 so far
this season with six goals to his name, was recently scouted by West Ham in
Evian's French Cup clash against Metz. News of the Hammers' interest and a
potential move to Upton Park has reached Sagbo's ears too, though the player
himself is playing it cool. "Joining West Ham would be ideal for me",
admitted the Ivory Coast international. "But if nothing happens then I'm
happy where I am", added Sagbo. "But I would like to have the opportunity to
play in England at some point in my career." Sagbo is under contract with
Evian until 2013.

Premier League heavyweights Newcastle United. The Basildon-born central
defender has been in stunning form for the Hammers this season. Now
Newcastle are reported to have upped their £2.5m offer to £4m to try to test
the resolve of the Championship promotion hopefuls. Tottenham Hotspur have
also been tracking Tomkins, a former England under-21 international who went
to Chalvedon School

Barcelona striker puts West Ham and Blackburn on alert
By talkSPORT
Tuesday, January 10, 2012
West Ham and Blackburn target Jonathan Soriano is ready to leave Barcelona
after failing to agree a new contract. The striker scored a stunning 32
goals in 37 appearances for Barcelona's B-team in Spain's second tier last
season, and has carried on in a similar vein this term with four in nine.
But the 26-year-old has failed to agree terms on a new deal at the Nou Camp
and could be about to leave the Catalan club. "Right now Barcelona are not
willing to offer me a contract renewal," Soriano said. "Guardiola has not
given me any indication that it will happen, so I will not go to the first
team. That being so, I'm ready to go play in another club." That could
prompt West Ham and Blackburn into action, though the two English clubs will
face a fight for the forward's signature, most notably from Portuguese side
Benfica. He told Spanish newspapers Sport: "It is still early and nothing is
set. There are several interested clubs, including Benfica."

Japan striker Ryoichi Maeda set for West Ham trial - report
The two-time J-League Golden Boot winner is allegedly set for a five-day
trial with the Championship club who are bidding for a return to the Premier
League
Goal.com
Samurai Blue forward Ryoichi Maeda will this week undertake a trial at
Championship club West Ham United according to a Japanese report. Nippon
Sports has reported that Jubilo Iwata striker Maeda will arrive in England
on Tuesday as West Ham manager Sam Allardyce looks to bolster his attacking
options to enhance the club's bid for promotion. However it is expected to
be a shortened trial at the East London club as Maeda is expected to return
to Japan on January 15. "Maeda, like his teammates, will all report to the
club on the 15th to begin our preparations for next season" Jubilo Iwata
president Manuchi Yoshino told the media. Maeda, 30, started his career at
Jubilo Iwata and boasts a strike rate of 115 goals in 260 appearances, as
well as twice earning the J-League Golden Boot award in the previous three
seasons. The striker has made 14 appearances for the Japanese national team
and was a member of the victorious squad that won the 2011 Asian Cup.
According to reports from the United Kingdom, Allardyce is hopeful the
striker will be able to earn a work permit, having previously shown interest
in him in December. When Goal.com contacted West Ham they declined to offer
any comment on the proposed trial. If successful, Maeda will be the second
Japanese player in the Football Championship, with Yuki Abe already plying
his trade at Leicester City, whilst Tadanari Lee is also hopeful of a move
to Southampton.

West Ham striker vows to bounce back from penalty agony
London 24
Dave Evans, West Ham Correspondent
Wednesday, January 11, 2012
7:50 AM
West Ham boss Sam Allardyce may be on the look-out for a new striker in the
transfer window, but that is no reflection on how well Sam Baldock has
performed since his arrival from MK Dons. The 22-year-old has scored five
goals in claret and blue in a season that has been marred by frustrating
injuries, but he was able to play the entire game at Sheffield Wednesday on
Sunday. There is one moment he would sooner forget, however. On 49 minutes,
his penalty kick was superbly saved by Wednesday keeper Nicky Weaver as the
Hammers went on to crash out of the FA Cup at the third-round stage. "I've
seen the penalty back and it was a good save, but that's no excuse," said
Baldock after the match at Hillsborough. "I'm quite pleased with the fact
that I have come through the whole game, but the only thing I can think
about at the minute is the penalty."
Baldock's pace has been the key to his success this season, both for MK Dons
and West Ham and he carved out another chance for himself after 71 minutes
on Sunday. The striker stormed past his marker to run in on goal, only for
his shot to be pushed on to the post by Weaver. "He has done quite well, to
be fair," admitted Baldock. "He has managed to get something on that shot
and diverted it on to the post. It's disappointing not to have scored at
least one."
It wasn't only Baldock who was denied in a goal-scoring position. Freddie
Sears and Frank Nouble both squandered chances when they were in on goal and
Baldcock felt that West Ham deserved something from the tie. "That's
football," he said. "That's why the fans love it so much and why people pay
to watch it. It was an eventful game and I think we were unfortunate not to
find ourselves in the hat for the fourth round."
Baldock may have been denied, but he was still delighted to be back on the
pitch for the entire game, the first time he has managed that since the 1-0
defeat at Southampton in October. "I got 100 minutes under my belt, which is
the first time I've completed a game since my injury, so that is pleasing,"
he said. "They asked me a couple of times how I was feeling and I said I was
fine and wanted to carry on."
Strikers are used to missing chances, even penalties, now it is just a case
of how Baldock reacts to that disappointment. "The important thing is how I
respond to it," he said. "The spotlight is going to be on me now to see how
I bounce back, but I've been through it like most strikers and I'm not going
to let it faze me." Nor should he. It is when the chances don't come, like
in the case of John Carew, that you really need to start worrying.
