Supporter Liaison Officers (SLOs) enjoy successful debut at London Stadium
SLOs on hand to provide assistance, answer fans' queries or concerns and
improve matchday experience
Club intends to expand team of SLOs to 50 by the end of the 2016/17 season
West Ham United's team of Matchday Supporter Liaison Officers (SLOs) will be
doubled in size after they enjoyed a successful debut at London Stadium. Ten
dedicated SLOs were stationed at key points around the Stadium before,
during and after Friday's Emirates FA Cup tie with Manchester City,
assisting supporters with a wide range queries or concerns. Now, at
Vice-Chairman Karren Brady's direction, the the number of SLOs on duty at
Saturday's Premier League fixture with Crystal Palace will be raised to 20
and the Club is actively recruiting with the aim of fielding a team of 50 on
each and every matchday by the end of the season. As part of our ongoing
commitment to providing fans with a positive matchday experience, the SLOs
were given a full introductory briefing by senior Club staff ahead of
Friday's game before donning bespoke West Ham-branded jackets to make them
visible to fans. Having welcomed thousands of supporters to London Stadium,
the SLOs went inside the ground to provide further help and advice during
the match, before heading back out to assist supporters after the final
whistle.
"Our SLOs are here to help our fans in any way they can, assisting with
enquiries, complaints and feedback," said the Vice-Chairman. "We just want
to create a team to show we care about our fans and their concerns. "All of
our SLOs will be wearing their West Ham United coats with 'SUPPORTER LIAISON
OFFICER' on the back, so they will be instantly identifiable by the fans.
They will be both inside and outside the Stadium and seeking to help on
every matchday in any way they can."
"Possessing experience and expertise in football stadium operations, crowd
safety, ticketing and supporter liaison, along with a knowledge and
understanding of the Club and our fanbase, the SLOs proved a welcome
addition. "I have now directed that we double the size of the team for
Saturday's match with Crystal Palace at London Stadium, with the number set
to rise by 50 over the coming months as we continue to recruit the right
people to enhance supporters' matchday experiences."
Supporter Services Manager Jake Heath has overseen the appointment of the
SLOs and is excited about the service they are now providing to fans. "Our
SLOs know London Stadium and the local area very well, and each is given a
booklet containing maps, walking routes to help fans get into the Stadium
and get away quickly and safely after the game, as well as information about
ticketing and accessibility," Heath explained. "We expect them to be able to
deal with enquiries about things like ticketing and membership and to answer
questions from fans both visiting London Stadium for the first time, and
those who come to home games week-in, week-out. "Our SLOs also have a
reporting procedure and will take a detailed note of any issue they cannot
deal with, along with supporters' contact details, which means we can then
look into them and get back to fans. "Throughout the course of the season,
we hope the number of complaints and issues arising gradually decreases, but
the presence of SLOs will be very much a permanent thing. "As the
Vice-Chairman Karren Brady has said, we are seeking further Supporter
Liaison Officers to assist us and our team will continue to grow so we can
cover all the bases and help with any issue that arises."

Collins honoured to reach 50 caps
WHUFC.com
James Collins was honoured to pick up a commemorative golden cap after
playing 50 games for Wales and says he will never forget helping his country
defy all the odds to reach the semi-finals of the Euro Finals during the
summer. The 33-year-old capped off an unforgettable summer by making his
50th appearance in a World Cup Qualifier in the 4-0 win over Moldova back in
September. The Wales Football Association recognised the memorable milestone
with a special presentation to the West Ham defender before the Hammers
Emirates FA Cup game against Manchester City last Friday. Collins, who won
his first cap for Wales back in 2004, has been a crucial part of Chris
Coleman's squad and will never forget being part of the team that reached
the last four of the Euros in France.
Collins said: "It is another proud moment and a long time coming. I made my
debut 12-years-ago and have been forced to miss a few squads through injury,
but to eventually reach 50 caps is a massive privilege and honour for me and
my family. "I still remember getting my first cap playing Norway away and it
was a long time ago. We drew 0-0 and I played alongside Danny Gabbidon. We
got a good result and there was many more to come after that. "The highlight
for me has to be playing at the Euro Finals during the summer. When I first
started and to see Wales reach a semi-final of a major tournament is
something I will look back on forever, not just for Wales but my whole
football career. It has been the highlight. "I don't know how many more caps
I have got left in me, but to finish on something like the Euros is
something to be proud of. "The main objective for us was to qualify for the
Finals which we managed to do and we went over to France looking to enjoy
the tournament. "I don't think any of the lads who played there will realise
how big an achievement it was until they stop playing. To have those
memories for myself and my kids is something special. "I feel Wales are a
force to be reckoned with now. We have taken massive strides forward over
the last four-years and we are in a great position in the world rankings. We
have got some big games coming up in the World Cup Qualifiers and hopefully
we can qualify for the next World Cup.
There was more good news for Collins after he resumed training with the
first-team squad this week after missing the busy festive period with a
hamstring injury. The experienced defender is now hoping to put himself in
contention for the big London derby against Crystal Palace at London Stadium
on Saturday. Collins added: "I am back in training and just missed out on
the FA Cup game against Manchester City. "I will train again with the lads
this week and will hopefully be in contention for the game against Crystal
Palace."

Oxford - It is nice to be back
WHUFC.com
Reece Oxford made his comeback from injury last night at the Chigwell
Construction Stadium
The 18-year-old captained the U23s in their 2-1 win over Norwich City
Oxford is pleased to be back on the pitch and eager to get back into Slaven
Bilic's first team
Reece Oxford is raring to get back playing for Slaven Bilic's first team
after appearing for West Ham's U23s in their 2-1 victory over Norwich City
on Monday night. Oxford has been absent from action since injuring his ankle
in training at the end of October, but the young defender made his comeback
last night at the Chigwell Construction Stadium. The 18-year-old burst onto
the scene last season at the age of just 16 when he became the seventh
youngest player in Premier League history in West Ham's 2-0 win at Arsenal.
After a frustrating start to the season due to injury, making only two
appearances in the Europa League, Oxford is eager to get back out on the
pitch for the first team. "I've been out for about two and a bit months now
but it's very nice to get back with the U23s and get a win," said Oxford.
It's been a bit frustrating but hopefully now I'm back fit, I can get back
in the side and help the team. It's been hard for the boys recently but
hopefully we can pull through now and I hope I can help them and play well
for the team."
Oxford captained the U23s last night as they beat Norwich 2-1, a result
which puts the PL2 side 4th in Premier League 2 Division 2.
Ashley Fletcher gave the home side the lead ten minutes after half-time,
sliding home a cross from Moses Makasi. Their lead was doubled when top
scorer Toni Martinez found Marcus Browne in the area - Browne deftly chipped
the ball over Norwich keeper Ben Killip to make it two. Norwich pulled a
goal back shortly after through Joe Crowe but the Hammers should have put
the game out of sight with Browne and substitute Joe Powell both missing
good opportunities. Oxford said afterwards he was pleased to achieve the
victory and also said he was happy to come through the fixture unscathed. "I
felt good tonight. I thought I would feel quite leggy but I was quite
surprised how good I felt so hopefully I can push on from here."

U10s win prestigious Ajax Tournament

West Ham's U10s won the Ajax U10 Indoor Football Tournament at the weekend
The tournament featured the likes of Ajax, Feyenoord and RSC Anderlecht
Our U9s were also in the Netherlands and finished runners-up at the
McDonald's Cup in Breda
West Ham United's Under 10s triumphed at the Ajax U10 Indoor Football
Tournament on Saturday. The competition featured 12 teams with the Hammers
coming up against the likes of Feyenoord, RSC Anderlecht and Club Brugge.
The young Irons (pictured) topped their group in emphatic style, winning all
four of their matches and scoring 19 goals in the process. In their last
group match, they beat local side Poesele 10-1. The Hammers again showed
their superiority in the knockout stages by beating another local side,
Purmersteijn, by three goals to one and then Dutch giants Feyenoord in the
semi-finals 5-1. Then came a final with Belgian side Club Brugge – the teams
were tied 3-3 at the end of normal time, but the Hammers prevailed, winning
4-3 on penalties.
"After some excellent individual & team performances we soon became the most
popular team to watch with the crowds next to our pitch surrounded and three
to four people deep with our goals being celebrated by the locals," said
coach Billy Lepine. "The team never went behind with the score at any point
throughout the tournament. It was a great effort from the boys."
There was almost cause for a double celebration as the Club's Under 9 side
came close to winning the McDonald's Cup in Breda at the weekend. Again, the
Hammers topped their group, achieving a 100% record against HIK, Bredase
Selectie, Everton and RSC Anderlecht. In the semi-finals, the Hammers beat
Feyenoord 4-2 and progressed to final to face London rivals Chelsea.
However, the Blues were victorious in the final, winning by six goals to
three.
"This tournament presented a difficult and different challenge for our 2008
born players, due to the intensity of the games and strength of the
opposition throughout the whole tournament," said coach Carl Walker. "With
both some excellent team and individual performances throughout, it was
overall a fantastic experience for our players."

The Big Interview - Andy Carroll
WHUFC.com
Andy Carroll is focused on helping the Hammers turn their form around when
they face Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough over the coming two weeks.
The striker came back from injury before Christmas with a bang, scoring in
the games against Arsenal and Swansea, and is determined to get back to
winning ways after a difficult start to the New Year.
West Ham won three in a row prior to their run of three defeats, so Carroll
doesn't believe they are far away from recapturing that level of
performance.
Andy, you returned to action with two goals in your first five matches. How
does it feel to be back?
AC: "It has been good to be back, I feel good on the pitch, I'm training
well and it's nice to be back getting goals."
You've had more than your fair share of injuries in your career. How do you
deal with setbacks like that?
AC: "Personally, I don't think about it [injuries] to be honest, the physios
ask me about it. I just forget about the past, as soon as it's over I just
get on with it. It just happens that way, all I want is to get back on the
pitch and give it 100 per cent."
We had a positive run before Christmas, before a couple of set backs at the
start of the New Year. How is the team feeling?
AC: "I think the lads have always been happy, obviously when you are losing
games it dips anyway but I think [after our last dip] we were able to get it
back up with a few wins and the draw against Liverpool that set us off and
got the ball rolling."
I don't think my physical presence is the most important aspect, I'd like to
think that I bring players in to the game with my movement or bringing the
ball down
Andy Carroll
How do you think defenders handle coming up against you?
AC: "I don't think they [opposition defenders] like me jumping into them a
lot!"
"Obviously they like to give a lot of elbows, in the back of the head and
stuff, and I like to think that I give as much back as I get.
"I don't think my physical presence is the most important aspect, I'd like
to think that I bring players in to the game with my movement or bringing
the ball down into them and creating chances."
How close do you think the team is to putting a run together?
AC: "The start of the season was difficult, compared to last season, but we
started scoring goals before Christmas. Last season was a great season and
even though this season didn't start well, I think we're starting to find it
now and come around, although the last few results haven't gone our way."
Finally, we'll lose Andre Ayew and Cheikhou Kouyate to the Africa Cup of
Nations this month. How much are you looking forward to resuming your
partnership with Andre afterwards?
AC: "I enjoy working with everyone here, the players and staff, but
obviously Andre is a great player, he's a great signing for us and it's a
shame that he had an injury at the beginning of the season, but he's back
fit now and looking forward to getting some more goals."
"The manager isn't going to be happy [losing players to AFCON] and obviously
it's difficult as players but it's something that happens and we have to get
on with it."

Dean Ashton assesses West Ham's striker options in January
Last Updated: 10/01/17 7:11am
SSN
Will West Ham stick or twist in the January window? Former striker Dean
Ashton assesses their options up front... The Hammers have made it clear
they want to sign a striker this month, pursuing Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi,
Brentford's Scott Hogan and Sunderland's Jermain Defoe. It's a familiar
situation for Ashton's old club, who have been linked with 30 different
strikers over the last six months. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexandre Lacazette
and Mario Mandzukic were all targeted last summer but Slaven Bilic ended up
with a loan deal for Simone Zaza, who looks set to return to Juventus
without a Premier League goal.
Strikers linked to West Ham over the last six months....
Moussa Dembele - Celtic Jermain Defoe - Sunderland Scott Hogan -
Brentford
Alexandre Lacazette - Lyon Christian Benteke - Crystal Palace
Marcus Rashford - Man Utd
Anthony Martial - Man Utd Lucas Pratto - Atletico Mineiro Shane Long -
Southampton
Michy Batshuayi - Chelsea Carlos Tevez - Shanghai Shenhua Aleksandar
Mitrovic - Newcastle
Theo Walcott - Arsenal Jamie Vardy - Leicester Callum Wilson - Bournemouth
Daniel Sturridge - Liverpool Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Man Utd Wilfried
Bony - Man City (loan Stoke)
Carlos Bacca - AC Milan Martin Braithwaite - Toulouse Andre-Pierre Gignac
- Tigres
Eder - Inter Milan Mario Gomez - Wolfsburg Davie Selke - RB Leipzig
Vincent Janssen - Spurs Gregoire Defrel - Sassuolo Nikola Kalinic -
Fiorentina
Jese Rodriguez - PSG Mario Mandzukic - Juventus Enner Valencia
(recall Everton loan)
So what's gone wrong?
"The owners came out and said they were looking for a striker and could
perhaps pay a certain amount of money and that has not helped them," Ashton
told Sky Sports. "Straight away it makes other clubs think, 'OK, you have to
pay top money for our strikers'. "Once you do that if you then don't
deliver, it does start to look bad. The other worry I have is, if you keep
going for these players and don't get them, it does look embarrassing.
"Players start to think, 'What's going on here? Do they really want me or
are they just trying to get anybody?' "They have struggled in that sense and
you can see in the recent links, they are not looking to break the bank now
for players. "But in this market, if you want to get a player you probably
have to pay over the odds, especially in January.
"They look a bit stuck at the moment over whether to stick or twist in that
regard, and while I don't think they will go over the odds, there's no doubt
the whole squad needs an injection of goals."
Ashton knows what it's like to move mid-season, having twice swapped clubs
in the January transfer window. He left Crewe for Norwich in January 2005
before moving on to West Ham 12 months later. His former club have made a
third offer for Hogan, who has 14 goals in 25 Sky Bet Championship
appearances this season. Ashton is fan of the former Rochdale striker, but
admits it may be a gamble considering his lack of Premier League experience.
"There's nothing wrong with looking at players from the lower leagues or the
Championship because I came from the Championship to play for West Ham,"
Ashton added. "At his age, he has shown unbelievable promise. You don't
score 14 league goals this season unless you're a decent striker who knows
where the back of the net is. "The only issue for me is he has only really
done it this season. He did it a little last year but before that he was at
Rochdale. He scored goals there but we are talking about a lower level. "It
would be quite a rise to the Premier League, and we have seen players like
Jamie Vardy do it, but you are taking a gamble. "On the other hand, Jermain
Defoe has already scored 11 Premier League goals in a struggling team and
you know he will bring you goals. He is still in very good condition and I
see another three or four years for him.
"That is the dilemma for West Ham - do you look to get somebody in who will
perhaps be better in a couple of years or do you get someone who can hit the
ground running. "But there is no hiding the fact West Ham need a striker.
It's just a case of trying to get the right player that will suit the way
West Ham play."

West Ham make a third bid worth £12m for Brentford striker Scott Hogan - Sky
sources
Last Updated: 10/01/17 7:16am
SSN
West Ham have made a third bid for Brentford striker Scott Hogan, Sky
sources understand. The Hammers had a second offer of £10m for the
24-year-old turned down on 5 January and the latest bid is believed to be
worth up to £12m. The Championship club value Hogan at £15m and talks are
on-going. Hogan has 18 months left on his current contract at Brentford and
is willing to leave in January in order to secure Premier League football.
The 24-year-old is valued at around £15m by the Sky Bet Championship club
and Sky sources revealed on Monday that Bundesliga side RB Leipzig were also
interested in signing him. Hogan, who joined Brentford from Rochdale in a
£750,000 deal in 2014, has scored 14 goals in 26 appearances this season.
Rochdale have a sell-on clause of 30 per cent as part of the deal that took
him to Griffin Park.

Dimitri Payet could leave West Ham, says Tony Cottee
Last Updated: 10/01/17 12:08pm
SSN
Dimitri Payet is likely to leave West Ham if the club are unable to improve
their form, according to Sky Sports pundit and former Hammers striker Tony
Cottee. Payet enjoyed a sensational debut campaign in the Premier League
after arriving at West Ham from Marseille for £10.75m in June 2015, helping
Slaven Bilic's side finish seventh and secure Europa League qualification.
But the 29-year-old, who scored 12 goals in 38 appearances during his first
year in England, has been unable to recapture the same consistent form this
season having starred for France at Euro 2016. West Ham currently sit just
seven points above the relegation zone in 13th spot and Cottee fears his
former club will be powerless to stop Payet from leaving if their results do
not pick up in the second half of the season. "If you look at the charts
for chances created, I think he's still top of that. He's still creating the
chances, but he hasn't been as good as last season," he told Premier League
Daily. "I look at Dimitri, he looks like a frustrated player and he looks
like player who knows he's a top player. He had a fantastic summer for
France and a wonderful first season for the club. "West Ham have struggled,
Payet has not been on top of his game and he'll get more and more frustrated
unless they start to win games.
"If they don't win games and they stay where they are, it will only end up
with one thing, either in this window or at the end of the season, Dimitri
will sadly leave the club. "That would be a great shame because we want to
try and keep him at the club for the next two to three years."
West Ham boss Slaven Bilic says he's expecting plenty of transfer interest
for Dimitri Payet but won't sell him in January. West Ham are looking to
bolster their forward line this month and Sky sources understand the club
have launched a third bid, worth £12m, for Brentford striker Scott Hogan.
Sky sources also understand the Hammers are interested in signing Chelsea
forward Michy Batshuayi, who they attempted to buy in the summer prior to
the Belgian's move to Stamford Bridge. Cottee believes the acquisition of a
forward is a priority for West Ham during the January transfer window and
says both players would represent good signings for the club. "He
(Batshuayi) has gone to Chelsea and has not been given a chance. There's one
simple reason for that and that's Diego Costa," he said.
"When he's fit, he plays and Batshuayi is on the bench and not going to be
given his chance. This lad needs to go out and play, if he's not going to
play at Chelsea, and get some fitness. "He's a good player and he's a good
finisher. But he will be suffering from a lack of fitness and a lack of
sharpness because he hasn't played."
When asked about Hogan, Cottee added: "I have seen Scott play a couple of
times, I normally like to watch a player for five or six games to make a
real assessment of them. But, from whenever I have seen him, the one thing I
have been impressed with is his movement.
"I think he's got terrific movement and he likes to get in behind defenders,
something that West Ham have been missing. I think they would both be good
signings for West Ham."

West Ham reject Roma's loan bid for Sofiane Feghouli
By Sky Sports News HQ
Last Updated: 10/01/17 3:15pm

Roma have failed with their bid to sign West Ham winger Sofiane Feghouli on
loan for the rest of the season, according to Sky in Italy.
Sky Sports News HQ revealed on Sunday that the Serie A club had offered to
sign the Algeria international on a six-month loan with a view to making the
move permanent in the summer. However, Sky in Italy understand the Hammers
have rejected their proposal and that Roma have resumed talks over a deal to
sign Charly Musonda from Chelsea. Roma head coach Luciano Spalletti had
confirmed prior to his side's 1-0 win away at Genoa on Sunday that he was
interested in bringing Feghouli to the Stadio Olimpico. "The focus is
shifting towards Feghouli - that is true," he said. "You are writing it
anyway, so there is no point disguising the fact. The other options have
cooled rather. "He is someone who will come to replace [Juan] Iturbe, who
Torino have added to their squad. "So far we have done well to cover the
gaps, but playing every two or three days we are going to need to bolster
our numbers a bit."
Feghouli joined West Ham on a free transfer from Valencia in the summer and
signed a three-year deal at the club, but has started only one Premier
League match this season. The 27-year-old, who was not included in the
Algeria squad for this month's Africa Cup of Nations, was shown a straight
red card on his full Premier League debut in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester
United on January 2. He has featured 15 times for the Hammers in total and
scored one goal.

Simone Zaza's West Ham exit edges closer as Fiorentina line up loan move
PIETRO LAZZERINI
Evening Standard
Fiorentina have lined up Simone Zaza as a potential replacement for Nikola
Kalinic. Kalinic is close to a £42million move to Chinese Super League side
Tianjin Quanjian. Fiorentina are keen on Zaza even though the striker
struggled during his loan at West Ham. The Serie A side want the Juventus
striker on loan until the summer with an agreement to then buy him for £15m.
It comes as the Hammers have been told they must meet Brentford's £15m
asking price for Scott Hogan this month as they seek attacking
reinforcements. West Ham's third bid of £12.5million was knocked back by
the Bees on Monday and the Championship club insist they will not sell
unless their valuation is met. Meanwhile, West Ham will resist any attempts
from Chelsea this month to sign their top scorer Michail Antonio.

West Ham did not wear FA Cup kit they sold to fans for £55 against Man City
after administrative error
West Ham revealed a 'Thames Ironworks' kit in August for use in the FA Cup
It was also worn in the pre-season friendly against Juventus at their new
ground
But they did not wear it as they crashed out in the third round of the FA
Cup
It has been revealed that wearing the kit would have contravened FA rules
By Oliver Todd for the Daily Mail
PUBLISHED: 16:56, 9 January 2017 | UPDATED: 01:11, 10 January 2017
West Ham were forced to bin plans to wear a specially-designed kit in the FA
Cup after an embarrassing administrative mix-up. The Hammers unveiled a
commemorative 'Thames Ironworks' navy-blue outfit in August and told fans it
would be 'worn during our FA Cup campaign'. But there was no sign of it as
they crashed out in the third round at the hands of Manchester City on
Friday night, with their regular home kit worn instead. And Sportsmail can
reveal club chiefs believed they had the sign-off from the FA to wear the
special shirts at the start of the season - only to later be told it
contravened the governing body's regulations. An source close to the FA said
the problem stemmed from a commercial issue with the shirt. There are strict
guidelines over the size and prominence of sponsors' logos on teams' shirts.
The kit, which featured a Union Jack detail harking back to West Ham's
forerunners Thames Ironworks FC and a blacked-out glossy logo of sponsor
Betway, is now set to be left unworn apart from when it was used in a
pre-season friendly against Juventus back in August. The foul-up has caused
frustration among supporters, who had paid up to £55 for the shirt alone.
The full kit cost up to £90 and sold out within weeks of its launch in the
summer. It remains on sale after stock was replenished.
West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady reacted to questions about why the
Ironworks kit would not be worn, writing on Twitter that it was a 'shame'
and that club chiefs 'LOVE that kit'. West Ham season-ticket holder and
Twitter user Richard Wenn wrote: 'Well shouldn't this have been checked with
the FA before advertising that it would be worn in the FA Cup?
#FalseAdvertising.'
Another, David Cullinane reacted by saying: 'Great! Waste of time that was.'
West Ham have not issued any advice to any buyers and it seems the kit will
now not be worn again. It did feature as West Ham lost 3-2 against Juventus
in a friendly to officially open the London Stadium on August 7, with Andy
Carroll scoring twice, but it now looks to be consigned to the laundry
basket.

"He (Batshuayi) has gone to Chelsea and has not been given a chance. There's
one simple reason for that and that's Diego Costa," he said. "When he's fit,
he plays and Batshuayi is on the bench and not going to be given his chance.
This lad needs to go out and play, if he's not going to play at Chelsea, and
get some fitness. "He's a good player and he's a good finisher. But he will
be suffering from a lack of fitness and a lack of sharpness because he
hasn't played."

Chelsea eyeing move for West Ham star Michail Antonio as Blues look to
strengthen squad for title tilt
The 26-year-old has starred for Slaven Bilic's side this season, topping the
scoring charts at the London Stadium
The Mirror
BYJACOB MURTAGH

Chelsea are plotting a shock move for West Ham star Michail Antonio. The
26-year-old has starred for Slaven Bilic's side this season, topping the
scoring charts at the London Stadium with eight goals in 27 games. Antonio
has gone from strength to strength since his £7million move from Nottingham
Forest 18 months ago. Chelsea are yet to follow up their interest with a
concrete offer, with the Hammers are determined to keep hold of the
right-sided star who has played more than 50 times for Bilic's boys. Antonio
Conte has been using Victor Moses in a right wing-back role this campaign,
but the Italian is keen to bring Antonio across the capital. However, the
former Reading flier signed a new deal with the Irons in the summer,
committing his future to the club until 2020 after a stunning first season
in east London.

West Ham in fight to keep Michail Antonio after star man impresses Chelsea
boss Antonio Conte
KEN DYER, SIMON JOHNSON
Evening Standard
West Ham will resist any attempts from Chelsea this month to sign their top
scorer Michail Antonio. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is said to rate the
player highly and was particularly impressed with his performance in the EFL
Cup tie between the teams in October. The Hammers won that game 2-1. The
26-year-old Antonio has scored eight Premier League goals this season and
has played in various positions for the club, from right-back to central
striker, his versatility also impressing the Chelsea manager. Signed from
Nottingham Forest in September 2015 on a four-year deal for £7million,
Antonio had to wait until December to tie down a regular spot in Slaven
Bilic's team. His performances have been so impressive he was called into
the England squad in August by then manager Sam Allardyce. West Ham though,
are extremely reluctant to part with one of their best-performing players in
what has been a struggle for them so far this season and are instead looking
to bolster their squad during the January transfer window.

Brentford stand firm over Scott Hogan's £15m asking price after rejecting
third West Ham bid
GIUSEPPE MURO
Evening STandard
Brentford are standing firm on their £15million valuation of Scott Hogan
after rejecting an improved bid of £12.5m from West Ham.
West Ham have already had offers of £10m and £11.5m turned down and
Brentford are adamant Hogan will not leave unless their asking price is met.
Brentford intend to dig their heels in over the 24-year-old forward and are
willing to let the transfer saga rumble on until West Ham to meet their
valuation. West Ham know Brentford want £15m but their bids so far have been
below that figure. Brentford are refusing to budge as they seek £2.5m more
for a player who has scored 14 goals in 25 matches this season. Hogan, who
is the joint-third highest scorer in the Championship, did not take part in
full training yesterday as he recovers from a glute injury.
Brentford are willing to sell Hogan because he has 18 months left on his
contract and feel their £15m is a fair reflection of his value in the
current market. Rochdale, Hogan's former club, are entitled to a percentage
of his transfer fee. Hogan wants a move to the Premier League and Brentford
feel he may have played his last game for the club. But the Bees are not
willing to let Hogan complete a cut-price move away from Griffin Park and
intend to take a resolute stance with West Ham.

West Ham blog: Brentford fan confirms that the Bees are resigned to Scott
Hogan leaving the club
By Essex Chronicle | Posted: January 10, 2017
By Tommy Wathen
With West Ham's chase of Brentford striker Scott Hogan making all the
headlines during this month's transfer window, Bees blogger Billy Grant
discusses the rise of Hogan in West London and reveals that he thinks the 25
year-old could have a similar impact in the Premier League to Jamie Vardy.
"The Bees got promoted from Division one in May 2014 and were strengthening
their team for Championship survival. We bought in two strikers to lead our
attack. Scott Hogan - £750k from 2nd Division Rochdale - was to be our main
striker whereas Andre Gray - £500k from Conference side Luton - was his
understudy. "We were laughed out of town for attempting Championship
survival with two lower league strikers leading our attack and were
universally marked down for relegation by the pundits. "Unfortunately, most
Brentford fans never got a chance to see Hogan play that first season as he
was injured on his debut at Rotherham. Andre Gray stepped up - scoring 18
goals before being transferred to Burnley for £9m. "Two years later, Scott
Hogan made his much anticipated return. He was only given 10 minutes at the
end each match to work him back in to fitness slowly. He went on to score 7
goals in under 180 minutes of play that season. The guy's a machine. If he
gets a sniff on goal, he'll shoot. And more often than not score. "He's the
best striker I've seen at Griffin Park since Dean Holdsworth who scored 38
goals in one season. He's so prolific, fans joked up at Huddersfield at the
last game of the season when he had gone a whole half without scoring."He's
gone off the boil. Knew it wouldn't last". He then went on to score a brace
in the second half. "In my eyes Hogan is better than Andre Gray, who needs
three or four chances to score one goal. Hogan has that killer touch. You
expect him to score every time he's in on goal. With half the season gone,
he's scored almost as many goals Andre Gray did over the whole season when
we reached the Premier League playoffs and Hogan hasn't had half the same
service that Gray got back then. "Unfortunately, Brentford fans are resigned
to him leaving the club. He's only played 30 plus matches and we could
potentially be offered enough money to buy us 4 or 5 decent replacements. We
can't turn that type of money down. "It's the world's worst secret that West
Ham are hard on the heels of Hogan. But will they do the deal? Depends on if
they come up with the cash. And if they do the deal, how will he fare? "If
West Ham feed him the ball and play to his strengths, he could tear up the
Premier League in the same way that Jamie Vardy shocked a few people. For
me, just to see the confused looks on the faces of the pundits that wrote us
off when we plucked him from Rochdale would make very happy."

Should West Ham Buy Javier Hernandez?
by Barrett Rouen35 minutes agoFollow @BRouen13
According to Bild Bayer Leverkusen have made Javier Hernandez available for
21 million pounds. Should West Ham be interested?
The case of Javier Hernandez has always been an interesting one because
wherever he has been he has been a relative success and yet he has never
stuck around too long. Hernandez is one of those players whom statistics and
the eye test never really seem to explain. The one thing he does do however
is score goals and he scores them by the boatload. West Ham need that.
In 43 games for Leverkusen he has scored 22 goals at Real Madrid he scored 7
in mostly substitute appearances. At Manchester United where he was mostly
underutilized because of his size he still managed to score 37 in just over
100 appearances. For Mexico though is where he has his best record in 88
matches he has 45 goals. That is a superb record for international level
Should they make the move?
The Hammers would be very lucky to have a player of Hernandez's proven
goalscoring ability. A classic fox in the box type and a natural finisher
Hernandez could add that lethal dose of finishing that is lacking around the
London Stadium. With just his speed and deftness of touch and good movement
he could help cause chaos for other teams. Him teamed with Andy Carroll
would be a very classic combination. Massive target man and tiny poacher.
If it is true that Leverkusen have decided to let Hernandez go then West ham
should jump on the deal before it's too late. He's a good player who
deserves more respect than he has ever gotten in his career. Perhaps a
meeting of cultures in East London is precisely what both player and club
need? This, is truly too good of an opportunity for West Ham to miss out on
if it is at all possible.

Is West Ham United move on? Brentford boss Dean Smith provides update on
Scott Hogan's future
HITC
John Verrall
West Ham United have reportedly made a third bid for Brentford striker Scott
Hogan. Brentford boss Dean Smith has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast,
which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 10th January, that he does not want to
lose Scott Hogan amid interest from West Ham United. Sky Sports reported
that West Ham have made a third offer for Hogan of £12 million. Brentford
are said to be wanting a £15 million fee for their prized asset, as Rochdale
are due to receive 30% of any fee which they get for the striker.
Smith admits that ideally he would be able to keep hold of Hogan for the
rest of the season, but he has not ruled out the possibility of a transfer.
"We wouldn't want to lose Scott, but the enticement of playing in the
Premier League is very head turning and so are the figures being talked
about," Smith said. Hogan was left out of Brentford's FA Cup squad for their
match against Eastleigh last weekend, which caused even more questions to be
asked about the 24-year-old's future. Hogan has scored 14 goals in 26
appearances for Brentford so far this term. And when West Ham fan Ian
Abraham requested that Smith was asked whether Hogan would keep Slaven
Bilic's side in the Premier League, the Brentford boss responded jokingly,
saying: "If he keeps asking me questions like that, he'll get a slap!" If
Hogan does move to West Ham, he will be in competition with the likes of
Diafra Sakho and Andy Carroll for a first team place.

West Ham flop Jonathan Calleri set for Las Palmas loan switch
The Mirror
BYJOHN CROSS
09:44, 10 JAN 2017
West Ham are ready to let Argentinian flop Jonathan Calleri join Las Palmas
on loan with a view to a permanent £4m deal in the summer.
Calleri, 23, has failed to impress at West Ham since moving from Deportivo
Maldonado on loan. The deal may need special FIFA clearance as it is another
loan while Las Palmas must also make space in their squad. Calleri has been
limited to just six substitute appearances for Slaven Bilic's side so far
this campaign, despite a striker shortage at the London Stadium. However, he
hasn't featured for the Hammers since the end of October and hasn't even
made the bench in the last nine games. Bilic is keen to bolster is forward
line this month, with the club keen on Brentford's Scott Hogan, Jermain
Defoe and Moussa Dembele.

WEST HAM FAVOURITES TO SIGN MAN CITY OUTCAST IN SUMMER SWOOP
Ladbrokesnews.com
Things haven't really gone according to plan for Slaven Bilic's West Ham
side so far this season. They're 10 points worse off than they were at this
stage last year, and have already lost two more matches this time out than
they managed in the whole of the 2015-16 campaign. Failure to land any huge
names back in the summer has left supporters wondering what the future holds
for the Hammers. But we could be looking at a very different side at the
London Stadium on the opening day of next season. And if the latest reports
are to be believed, Manchester City outcast Joe Hart could soon be on his
way. The England number one has made it clear of his intention to return to
the Premier League after a season away at Serie A outfit Torino. And the
latest odds are suggesting he may well team up with the likes of Dimitri
Payet and compatriot Michail Antonio, with our traders making West Ham the
6/4 favourites for his signature.
Of course, such a move would likely put an end to Adrian's time in east
London - but fans would certainly see Hart's acquisition as a step in the
right direction from the club. And it's the first time since joining Torino
that a London club has headed this market, with Liverpool and Everton
previously thought to have been the two sides preparing to do battle in the
summer. As things stand, it's the Reds who are next in the running at 11/4.
And they could certainly do with a goalkeeper of Hart's calibre, having
conceded more goals than any other side in the Top Six. That leaves Everton
just behind in the running at 5/1, while Arsenal are some way off at 8s,
with Petr Cech still expected to stay at the Emirates for the foreseeable
future. Whatever happens though, it's likely we'll be seeing Hart playing in
England once again come next season. A move to any Chinese club has been
priced up at 10/1, while 12/1 says he joins a MLS outfit.

Michy Batshuayi stalling on Swansea switch as West Ham lead chase for
Chelsea striker
The Belgian forward is has a number of other clubs monitoring his situation,
with West Ham leading the chase
The Mirror
BYDARREN LEWIS
08:21, 10 JAN 2017
Chelsea are closing in on a loan move for Swansea striker Fernando Llorente.
But the Swans' bid to land Michy Batshuayi in a swap deal for the rest of
the season may have hit trouble with the Belgium frontman unsure and a
number of other clubs keen. West Ham lead that chase. The Irons have again
registered their interest in the 23-year-old marksman after having an
initial bid rejected last month. Batshuayi is understood to favour the
Hammers. The former Marseille frontman scored in the FA Cup victory over
Peterborough - but has not started a Premier League game this season.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte knows 31-year-old Llorente well after signing him
for Juventus with whom both men lifted the Serie A title in 2014. The
Spaniard is keen on a reunion but Swansea want a replacement in first.
Former Blues favourite Ray Wilkins, meanwhile, does not believe Batshuayi is
the solution to Conte's striking department in the absence of first-choice
Costa. "When I watched him he was like a guy starved of playing for the
first team, and he was out to impress so badly," said Wilkins, speaking to
Sky Sports News. "He really wanted to do well - he ran everywhere, his ball
control was pretty poor when it was played up to him. "I don't think when
you've got Costa in the type of form he's in, that Batshuayi would be the
answer to come in."

Steve McManaman's impassioned rant in defence of West Ham boss Slaven Bilic
HITC
Damien Lucas
Slaven Bilic is a man under pressure at struggling West Ham United but
Liverpool and Real Madrid legend Steve McManaman is having none of it. The
Hammers were thrashed 5-0 in the FA Cup by Manchester City at the London
Stadium last time out. The humiliating defeat follows an embarrassing early
exit from the Europa League to Romanian minnows Astra during qualifying, a
4-1 defeat in the quarter-final of the EFL Cup to Manchester United and a
torrid season in the Premier League which has Bilic's side sitting 13th in
the table at the halfway stage. Most supporters point the finger of blame at
broken promises from the West Ham board over transfer spending following the
big move to the Olympic Stadium. But some are beginning to turn on the
Croatian, who last term led the East Londoners to their best points tally -
and first positive goal difference - since 1986. Bilic is second favourite
to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job but former Liverpool,
Manchester City and Real Madrid midfielder Steve McManaman launched an
impassioned defence of the Hammers boss on BT Sport. "You can't lose 5-0 at
home, not West Ham, not with their fans," McManaman said on BT Sport. "I
hope he (Bilic) doesn't (get sacked), we keep hearing how last year the
players played really well - the players played really well - now the
players are playing really bad so you can't necessarily blame Slaven Bilic
can you. "I mean of course he's got a job and he has to go out and motivate
them, but you play for managers you didn't like, you play for managers that
you did like but as soon as you crossed the line you went out and you did
your own job, it's up to you, it's up to your own personal pride.
"It's not up to the manager to motivate you, you're playing Manchester City
in the cup, in front of 50,000 of your home fans, you don't need the manager
you want to go out and show that 'I'm better than £50 million Raheem
Sterling, I'm better than £50 million Aguero', you want to show, you battle.
"And as far as I'm concerned that's got nothing to do with Slaven Bilic,
nothing to do with him. On one hand you can't say 'Oh Payet's the best
player in the world' and then the next minute he's terrible."
Reports are circulating this week that Bilic has been given two games to
save his job - as reported by The Sun - with West Ham set to play fellow
strugglers Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough next. Reports claim co-owners
David Sullivan and David Gold along with vice-chairman Karren Brady are
losing patience with the way the side have struggled compared to last season
with the same players available. They are worried Bilic has lost the ability
to motivate his squad and Sullivan's comments last year about holding off on
offering the manager a new deal to make sure 'he is not a one-season wonder'
are starting to look prophetic.

SEARCHING FOR A SOLUTION
By JackSparrow86 10 Jan 2017 at 08:00
WTID
First, let me start by wishing everyone a happy new year. Work and family
commitments haven't allowed me to write as much as I hoped for recently, but
I'll be doing the best I can to contribute on a regular basis again.
The problem
Our issues have been widely reported and well covered by the writers on
here. Moral, effort, passion, concentration, consistency are all under
scrutiny and the team seems disorganised and uninspired far too often.
Too many players have become passengers and it feels like the squad lacks in
leadership and discipline.
The questions about Payet's commitment and motivation can't be ignored,
neither can the impact they are having on the team. Bilic has publicly
backed Payet as our best player, consistently praising his ability in press
conferences and various media outlets. With Payet appearing disinterested at
times and with several questionable interviews where he fails to show
commitment to the club, how does that affect the team? I wouldn't feel too
pleased if I was part of the squad and felt that our talisman was looking to
jump ship.
One question I've been asking recently is, "is Bilic too nice?" An
impossible question to answer, I know, but it does worry me. Are the best
managers disciplinarians? Conte, Mourinho, Koeman, Diego Simeone, Guardiola,
Klopp (the most charismatic of the managers but still a disciplinarian),
Ferguson; you wouldn't want to cross any of these would you?
At the start of his tenure, Bilic exiled Amalfitano for apparent
disciplinary issues. This set the tone and as an unknown entity, Bilic
demanded respect. Since the end of his first season, his image became
considerably softer, especially over the Euros with his charismatic and
unorthodox style of commentary.
Is this a factor in our recent struggles? It's very hard to say, but Bilic's
demeanour this season has seemed repressed, and it could very well be an
issue.
Another area under the microscope is Bilic's efforts in turning the new
training ground into a family friendly environment. Is this sending out the
right message? Are we implementing tried and tested methodology here or are
we breaking new ground in untested areas? The same could be asked of our
fitness coaching and methods. With such a high number of injuries, and
players almost consistently appearing far from full match fitness, does this
need addressing?
It's possible to go on all day speculating, and I really don't mean any of
this to come across negatively. They are just areas that stand out to me.
The players
There's not enough time to evaluate each player individually, but it's fair
to say that aside from Reid, Randolph, Obiang, Fernandes and Antonio, the
players have struggled to varying degrees.
Some have struggled with form, others with effort and some with both. Too
many need to look inwardly and demand more. This comes down partly to Bilic
and his ability to motivate and get the most out of his players. It doesn't
appear at present that he is, but with new arrivals in January and some
departures, he has the perfect opportunity to catalyse change.
The club
Arguably the biggest overhaul needed is within the club. The owners, the
engagement with the fans, the stadium, our image and our PR all need
considerable work.
Again, I won't go into this now, but it's clear for all to see that our
image needs improving as well as our conduct in the media.
The solution
This is my personal view on what steps we should take to move forward
successfully.
Become humble. Our owners have to understand the damage that some of their
conduct is causing. We are a family club and there is no problem with
ambition, but it has to be plausible and build on a solid foundation. We
can't just brand London on the badge and roll into a new stadium - which
itself is a bone of huge contention within the media - and start claiming
we're a big club. Like most things in life, success has to be earned.
Reconnect with the fans. The transition to the new stadium has been handled
very poorly and steps need to be made to address the numerous issues. Other
than the stadium itself, none seem insurmountable and this will provide an
opportunity for the board to show the fans that they're making positive
steps in the right direction.
Outs and in's
A shake-up in the squad is necessary and an injection of talent, coupled
with an ejection of deadwood, can provide a huge confidence boost.
It's been widely reported that Feghouli cold move on. If the rumours of a
£10-11million sale to Roma are correct, then that represents a good return
on a player that came in for free in the summer. I personally think that he
has more to offer than we've seen but if that money can be reinvested
wisely, then it represents good business.
I'm a big fan of Robbie Brady and a player with his experience and grit
would add a lot of fighting spirit to the squad. He's capable of playing
anywhere down the left and even centrally or on the right wing if needed.
I also think it's important that we have a left winger in the team. Payet
dominates this spot but I think we need to bring him central, behind the
striker/strikers. He is an expert at playing in-between the lines and he
wouldn't need to track back as he does on the wing. He would need to defend
from the front but this is different and he would be afforded more freedom
in this role.
With Zaza, Tore and Calleri looking certain to depart, we free up
£110,000-140,000 in wages and three spaces in the squad. If Feghouli
departed then we will need three to four new faces, but will have another
£35-40,000 in the kitty.
Another player under question is Ogbonna. For me, he has failed to improve
sufficiently since signing and although I don't think January is the time,
should a suitable opportunity arise, I would consider selling him and
bringing in another centre back. Next season will be Collin's last, if he
remains, and with Oxford and Burke pushing for the first team, a
one-in-one-out should be ample over the summer.
Right back
The first area we need to address is at right back. Jenkinson on loan to the
end of the season seems sensible. Trippier would be a great buy, but I
cannot see Spurs allowing him to leave, especially to us.
Jenkinson would bring experience and stability. Arsenal seem happy to
sanction a loan or permanent deal, so we would have the option to make it
permanent in the summer should he impress. He would also settle quickly,
having spent time at the club previously.
Other options would be Debuchy, Iorfa (Wolves) or an attempt to bring in
Glen Johnson or Sagna who are both reaching the end of their contracts.
Striker
The second area we need to strengthen is up front. Defoe would be a superb
signing, but I cannot see this happening. He is arguably Sunderland's only
hope of survival, and I'm not convinced that he will try to force through a
move.
Scott Hogan appears to be an exciting prospect and I like that fact that he
has Championship experience. Both the Championship and Premier League share
a similar level of physicality and this can help players, especially
strikers, adapt quickly.
This transfer comes with risk, of course. A high fee, reported to be
£12.5-15million, and an inconsistent injury record leave cause for concern,
but there's something about this I like and it's another home grown, British
player that will hopefully bring plenty of fighting spirit.
Another player that I rate highly is Shane Long. For around the £10million
mark we could get a proven Premier League striker and a player that ticks
most of the boxes we need. He's a poacher, he plays on the shoulder of the
last defender and his pace unsettles defences. He could realistically be our
best and safest option in January.
Javier Hernandez, previously of Manchester Utd and currently at Bayer
Leverkusen, is an ambitious target, but worth a mention. An article by HITC
mentions that Bild - a reputable and leading source on German football -
reported Leverkusen were considering his sale, with a reported fee in the
region of £21million This would be a long shot, but he's a proven
goalscorer and may be tempted back to a league in which he enjoyed several
fruitful seasons.
Winger
As mentioned previously, I'm a fan of Robbie Brandy and think we could do
far worse than bring him to the club. He would again inject some steel and
fight to the team and provide cover across several positions. He's got pace,
a superb delivery and can score goals. Snodgrass has also been covered by
the media and while he is a good player, his lack of pace concerns me.
If we did sell Feghouli then we would need to bring in another winger and
Brady could be a good option if we can prise him away from Norwich.
Conclusion
January can provide the foundation for an improved campaign. The squad is
disjointed and refreshing the ranks with good quality players has the
potential to reinvigorate the players, as well as cover huge gaps in the
squad - right back and striker - that have proved costly all season.
The second half of the season can be seen as a fresh start and a new
challenge. This psychology can be used to our advantage and with new faces
and competition for places, we can really kick on.
The team need to pick themselves up after the City game and prepare for
Palace. For the first 30 minutes of the City game we were a well structured,
aggressive, potent team. We need to learn from what happened afterwards and
focus on what we did right and find a way to replicate this consistently.
Allardyce deserves a warm welcome Saturday, but let's make sure that's all
he walks away with. Palace aren't on top form either, but they'll be well
structured and hard to break down. Hopefully, Byram will be match fit and we
can start with a full back four for the first time in a long while. This
will make a lot of difference and I'm confident that we can kick on from
here, with a big piece of the puzzle back in place. The rest needs work, but
let's stay confident and get behind the team and the manager, no matter
what.

Ex-Liverpool star handed suspended prison sentence assault. Disgrace!
9th January 2017 5339 0
Ex-Premier League striker Titi Camara has received a suspended prison
sentence for 'forgery', 'threats' and 'wounding with intent' in an assault
on his wife last year. Titi Camara represented Liverpool from 1999-2000 and
scored 9 league goals. Following his spell at Liverpool, Camara joined West
Ham United, but failed to record a league goal in three years. The former
Guinea international's ex-partner, Mariam Koulibaly, reported him for
assault in 2016, as reported by The Sun. On December 22, a court in the
Guinea handed Camara a six-month suspended prison sentence, along with a
fine of around £4,400. The court found him guilty of wounding with intent,
threats and forgery. Following the hearing, Camara's lawyer Youssouf Camara
stated: "We disagree with the verdict, and we will appeal against it."
Conversely, Koulibaly's legal team said: "Titi Camara used fake documents to
avoid sharing his estate with his wife. "He accused her of adultery without
any proof, and this damaged her dignity and feelings. "The fact he has been
found guilty is satisfying. The law has won. "We will appeal to get an
increased payment. The current amount won't even pay the children's school
fees."
