Faubert hit by major injury blow - WHUFC
19/07/2007 16:30

New signing Julien Faubert is expected to be sidelined for around six months
after a scan confirmed that he has ruptured his Achilles tendon. The
23-year-old French midfielder suffered the freak injury during Tuesday
night's pre-season friendly match against Sigma Olomouc in Austria, and has
now flown back to France to undergo surgery. Head Physiotherapist George
Cooper says: "The injury was completely out of the blue. Julien has no
history of any Achilles problems, and this kind of rupture is usually
pre-disposed by past steroid injections in the area - something he has never
had - so it is a major shock.
"On the plus side, we have managed to get him to a top surgeon in
Strasbourg, who has successfully operated on the likes of Zinedine Zidane
and Lilian Thuram in the past, so he is in very good hands. Two to three
days is the key time for this injury and everything will be done and in
place for Julien within that period. "We expect him to be out of action for
around six months but we will not be putting any definitive date on his
return - he will come back only when he is completely ready. "I have to say,
Julien's attitude and reaction to the injury has been first class. He was
already planning his rehabilitation in the taxi on the way to the hospital,
and we will be working with him every step of the way to ensure he returns
to full fitness as soon as possible."
Manager Alan Curbishley adds: "It's a devastating blow for everyone,
especially Julien. He had fitted in so well and was showing all the
attributes needed to be a success in the Premiership. "You could see in the
short bit of football he has played with us that he was going to be a big
hit with the supporters - he is strong, fast, gets up and down, and
understands the game - so to lose him after an hour of football and just two
weeks at the Club is a big disappointment.
"We wish Julien a speedy recovery and, having got to know the boy over the
past week or so, I am certain that he will respond to this set-back in the
right way. Hopefully we will see him back in action around Christmas time,
but the main thing is that he follows his rehabilitation programme and only
returns when he is 100% ready."

Snods enjoying the chance to settle in - WHUFC
19/07/2007 09:25

New first team coach Glynn Snodin says the pre-season training trip to
Austria has played a vital part in helping him to settle into life at West
Ham United.
The former Charlton and Southampton coach was appointed by Alan Curbishley
last month and, having travelled out to Graz with his new colleagues for a
week of training, matches and team bonding, admits that things couldn't have
gone better. "It's great to be away, because it gives everyone a chance to
get to know each other that much more," he says. "We're with each other
virtually 24-7, which means you get to know the characters and personalities
of people.
"We're on the training field morning and evening, eating together three
times a day, and there have also been a couple of squad activities, so it's
a good chance to build relationships and develop the team spirit. "From my
point of view, I obviously know Curbs and Merv, and a few of the backroom
staff, from my time at Charlton, which has made things easier, but I'm still
getting to know the players, and they have been fantastic. "There's a lot of
banter with me being a Yorkshireman - the Cockneys have given me a typical
welcome! - but there are a few other northern lads back at the training
ground, so I'm not completely on my own!"
Having been in the small village of Bad Radkersberg - near the south east
Austrian border - for three days now, Hammers have been training hard around
their two friendly matches, despite conditions being far from ideal. "It's
been unbelievably hot," he says Glynn. "The lads are training and playing in
temperatures of 35 degrees, and when you are this close to them you realise
how much work they put in. "They have worked extremely hard, and the work
has been real quality. These are players at the very top of their profession
and it just a pleasure to work with them. "The main thing when you are
coaching at this level is to have that mutual respect between each other,
and for the players to believe in what you are telling them. So far, it has
been a joy to coach them, and I'm sure they will prove their quality in the
Premier League next season."

WEST HAM UNITED CLUB STATEMENT

West Ham United totally rejects the latest outburst and threats issued in
the name of Kia Joorabchian in relation to the situation regarding Carlos
Tevez.
We will not be drawn into this form of public mudslinging but these latest
statements cannot go unanswered. Mr Joorabchian entered into agreements with
the previous regime at West Ham United at a time in which he was attempting
to take over the Club. Those arrangements, since terminated by West Ham
United, led the Club into serious disciplinary difficulties for which the
Club has paid a heavy price. It is absolutely clear that the only contract
relating to Carlos Tevez recognised by West Ham United and the Premier
League is the player's four-year contract which runs until June 2010. All
other arrangements were terminated by West Ham on 27th April 2007 and no
legal challenge to that termination has occurred. West Ham United can also
confirm that all documentation regarding the Club and Carlos Tevez has
already been submitted to the Premier League and fully scrutinised by them.
We have ensured full disclosure. The Club has in recent weeks made every
effort to keep Carlos Tevez at West Ham United and indeed offered
significantly improved terms and conditions to the player, which were not
accepted. However, a transfer of a properly registered player cannot occur
without agreement between two clubs and the Premier League. Without such an
agreement we believe that it is in the interest of all parties to resolve
this issue as quickly as possible through the procedures laid down by FIFA.
Public threats and accusations are irrelevant, let FIFA decide and West Ham
United will accept that judgement whatever the outcome. The time has come to
settle this matter in a way which will allow everyone concerned to move on.

Government and FA to press Fifa - BBC

The British government and the Football Association will unite to press Fifa
to investigate the question of third party ownership of players. Carlos
Tevez's proposed transfer from West Ham to Manchester United has brought the
matter under the spotlight. BBC Sport has learned the Government fears the
integrity of the game could be damaged by the practice. A Whitehall source
said: "We don't want third-party ownership in British football, we want it
dealt with."
The Department of Media, Culture and Science has called for a probe at "the
highest international level." Fifa is to set up a dispute resolution chamber
in the coming weeks to determine whether Tevez is owned by West Ham, or his
advisor Kia Joorabchian. The Premier League has also insisted that any deal
to transfer the Argentine from West Ham to Manchester United is conducted
between the two clubs. Manchester United have already asked Fifa to
intervene in the protracted dispute between the Old Trafford club and West
Ham. West Ham refused Tevez permission to take a medical when he arrived in
Manchester to undergo one on Tuesday and the Hammers have asserted their
rights over the Argentine. The Hammers were fined a record £5m but
controversially avoided a points deduction when the Premier League found
them guilty of irregularities over his registration. Sheffield United, who
were relegated from the Premiership, have mounted a long but fruitless
campaign to be reinstated in the top flight.

Hammers hit back - KUMB
Filed: Thursday, 19th July 2007
By: Matthew O'Greel

West Ham United have hit back at Kia Joorabchian in the ensuing Carlos Tevez
row. In a club statement released this lunchtime United hit out at
Joorabchian and the MSI Group, accusing them of 'public mudslinging'
following comments made last night. Joorabchian had accused United of being
'wholly inconsistent with the real circumstances' and of making 'repeated
promises and assurances which they have not acted upon or performed' in a
statement released on behalf of the MSI Group, who claim ownership of
Tevez's financial rights, last night. "We wish to make clear that at all
times it has been our intention to find an amicable solution and Carlos
Tevez has, at no time, acted improperly in relation to his move to
Manchester United Football Club as he was given permission via his
representatives to talk to other clubs to reach an amicable agreement," the
statment added. "West Ham have consistently provided private assurances
while at the same time making contrary statements to the public at large.
"It is now time for these inconsistencies to be brought to an end. We see no
alternative but to bring the true circumstances to the attention if a higher
authority to aid a rapid conclusion to this issue."
But the Hammers slammed MSI's comments in today's statement, labelling
Joorabchian and MSI's continued public outbursts 'irrelevant'. "West Ham
United totally rejects the latest outburst and threats issued in the name of
Kia Joorabchian in relation to the situation regarding Carlos Tevez," said
the statement.
"We will not be drawn into this form of public mudslinging but these latest
statements cannot go unanswered. "Mr Joorabchian entered into agreements
with the previous regime at West Ham United at a time in which he was
attempting to take over the Club. Those arrangements, since terminated by
West Ham United, led the Club into serious disciplinary difficulties for
which the Club has paid a heavy price. "It is absolutely clear that the only

Premier League is the player's four-year contract which runs until June
2010. All other arrangements were terminated by West Ham on 27th April 2007
and no legal challenge to that termination has occurred.
West Ham United can also confirm that all documentation regarding the Club
and Carlos Tevez has already been submitted to the Premier League and fully
scrutinised by them. We have ensured full disclosure."
The statement also confirmed that the club had 'made every effort' to ensure
Tevez remained at the club with an improved deal tabled - an offer that was
subsequently rejected. The row is now set to fall under the jurisdiction of
FIFA, whom all involved parties have agreed should have the final say.
However the saga is unlikely to be resolved within the next few days, as
Manchester United - and possibly both West Ham United and the MSI Group too
- had hoped.

Shorey flattered by Hammers - Sky
By Graeme Bailey - Created on 19 Jul 2007

England full-back Nicky Shorey admits he is flattered by reported interest
being shown in him by West Ham. The Hammers need to bolster their options at
left-back after letting Paul Konchesky join Fulham and the Reading man
appears to be high on Alan Curbishley's list of targets. Shorey is a
life-long West Ham fan and the club are now understood to be lining up a
£5million for the 26-year-old. "It's flattering to hear they might be
interested, we'll just have to see what happens," Shorey told the Daily
Mail. Shorey is currently in talks with Reading over a new deal, but he is
yet to be offered terms. "My agent has been dealing with my contract, but,
so far, I haven't received an offer," he revealed. "I don't know what's
going to happen, I want to see where Reading see me in their plans and also
where the club is going."

Hammers reject Tevez claims - Sky
By Mark Buckingham - Created on 19 Jul 2007

West Ham United 'totally reject' Kia Joorabchian's accusations regarding the
Carlos Tevez affair. Tevez is aiming to secure a move to Manchester United
and his agent Joorabchian released a statement on Wednesday claiming The
Hammers had gone back on previous promises. The London club have now
responded to Joorabchian's comments and insist Tevez is under contract Upton
Park for a further three years. "West Ham United totally rejects the latest

Meanwhile, the club have also confirmed the intention to allow Fifa to
adjudicate on Tevez's proposed transfer to Old Trafford. The statement
continued: "The club has in recent weeks made every effort to keep Carlos
Tevez at West Ham United and indeed offered significantly improved terms and
conditions to the player, which were not accepted. "However, a transfer of a

Rooney eyes Tevez partnership - Sky
By Andrew Scurr - Created on 19 Jul 2007

Wayne Rooney is confident Carlos Tevez would be a fine partner for him
should the Argentinian sign for Manchester United. Sir Alex Ferguson wants
to add Tevez this summer, but is being frustrated by West Ham, who are
digging their heels in an attempt to hang onto the striker. Rooney is hoping
Tevez will eventually be a United player and expects the 23-year-old to be a
huge hit at Old Trafford. "He's a great player," Rooney told Sky Sports
News. "He did fantastic for West Ham last season in helping them to stay up.
"If he signs I'm sure he'll be a great player for us, with the attacking
options we've got already. "He'd be a good partner for me to play with and
if he signs it'll be great for the team."
Tevez would be the third attack-minded arrival at United, following the
signings of Nani and Anderson. Rooney is excited about the prospects for the
new season, but admits the pressure will be on to keep performing with the
increased competition for places. "I think with the signings of Nani and
Anderson, more attacking players, it will make it a bit more exciting for
us. "It'll be a bit more difficult to keep your place, you'll have to play
well every game so that'll be tough for all of us, the competition for
places."
Owen Hargreaves has also joined from Bayern Munich, and Rooney added:
"Obviously a few of the lads know him from playing with him with England.
"We know what he gives us, he's a good solid player."

Class - WHO
left-wing - Thu Jul 19 2007

I've been reading and watching the growing criticism of West Ham over the
last few weeks with an ever increasing annoyance. The media, especially the
more right-wing papers, have been continually slagging us off for buying
players at an inflated price on supposedly high wages, behaving as though we
are the first to commit such a cardinal footballing sin. Inflated wages and
price tags have been around ever since the inception of the Premier League.
The difference is that its always been the "Big" rich, clubs that have done
it, so therefore it's OK. When clubs like Wigan and Bolton have done wells
it's been on reasonably modest budgets and with the careful choosing of
players by the manager, that and building on a pretty solid base. The big
clubs have continued to monopolise the the really big signings on huge
weekly wage bills, but that's OK, because it's Man Utd, Chelsea or
Liverpool.
Now we have had the audacity to start buying several, multi million pound
players, we are killing football? Please!
We have been a club that has lived on a tradition of trying to play, good,
entertaining, flowing football for years, and everyone loved it. Everyone
was happy that we never won anything playing, "the West Ham way".
We were like the kid who always gave it his all. We had the the best boots,
the kit, but were basically never going to be good enough to get in the
first team. People would ruffle our collective hair and tell us to keep
trying, then saunter off with the proper players. Well, now thats changed.
We have the money to buy, pretty much the players we want. We have the money
to pay them the wages. We don't have to shop in the bargain basement
anymore. And, they don't like it.
And thats the point; we have moved the Status Quo. We're not a club that's
looked at as everyone's "second team", we're a club that can afford to be a
little nasty, and spiteful. No, we haven't quite reached the level of the
top four yet, but we can, and they know it, and they don't like it. They
don't like it that West Ham, in the next few years, can become a genuine
force in the Premiership. They want us kept in our place. "Bottom half or
middle, with the occasional good season. There you go West Ham, good lads"
Well, up yours!
Of course, the same as anyone that suddenly comes into money that they're
not used to, we're going to make mistakes, like the lottery winner not
knowing what fork to use in the Ritz, (look at the current farce! ) But
we're going to get used to it, and quickly. Magnuson knows football. His
backers have and understand money and the power it creates, that above all
else will be our defining strength. For the first time in our history, our
long term future is looking very good. Personally, I can't wait to start
elbowing our way in at the big boys table, and knocking a few wine glasses
over.

Hammers in the hunt for Dyer - TeamTalk

West Ham's campaign to recruit football's most controversial characters
continues with reports of interest in Newcastle's Kieron Dyer. Having
already recruited Craig Bellamy this summer, the Hammers are interested in
one of his best mates according to the Evening Chronicle. A move would
reunite Dyer with Lee Bowyer two years after their on-field scrap while
playing for the same Newcastle team against Aston Villa. Dyer has been at
Newcastle for eight years but injury problems have restricted him to just
190 Premiership appearances. He still has two years remaining on his
contract but was said to be devastated after being booed off the pitch by
Newcastle fans in his last appearance in a black-and-white shirt. Dyer is on
phenomenal wages at United but West Ham would have little trouble matching
those terms.

West Ham refute Joorabchian claims
'We will not be drawn into this form of public mudslinging'
Roberto Kusabbi and agencies
Thursday July 19, 2007
Guardian Unlimited

West Ham today hit back at Kia Joorabchian, refuting his assertion they had
made misleading statements about Tevez and reiterating their claim that they
owned the player outright. The club was reacting to Joorabchian's threat to
bring "the true circumstances" of Tevez's position to the attention of "a
higher authority" - presumably Fifa, who were called in yesterday by
Manchester United to arbitrate the transfer.
"We will not be drawn into this form of public mudslinging but these latest
statements cannot go unanswered," read a statement posted on the West Ham
website. "Mr Joorabchian entered into agreements with the previous regime at
West Ham at a time in which he was attempting to take over the club.

"Those arrangements, since terminated by West Ham, led the club into serious
disciplinary difficulties for which the club has paid a heavy price. It is
absolutely clear that the only contract relating to Carlos Tevez recognised
by West Ham and the Premier League is the player's four-year contract which

West Ham also insist that they tried their best to persuade Tevez to stay by
offering him a "significantly improved contract", which he rejected.

Under Premier League rules a transfer of a registered player cannot occur
without agreement between two clubs and the Premier League. West Ham insist
that they are happy to accept a Fifa decision and believe that: "The time
has come to settle this matter in a way which will allow everyone concerned
to move on."

Egg Scrambles Kia Statement With Hard Boiled West Ham Response - West Ham
fans.org
Submitted by Neville Nixon on 19 July, 2007 - 10:43.

Well it had to happen didn't it? Eggert Magnusson is typical of many
vertically challenged people in that he doesn't like to be pushed around, he
likes it even less when the 'bullies' hide behind their lawyers, the
inevitability of West Ham's answer to Joorabchian, Manchester United and
their press allies was always going to be put up or shut up.
Fans that should really be following the potential signings of Nicky Shorey
or Roque Santa Cruz are instead still being inundated with 'Tevez Talk'.
There is also the extremely worrying injury to Jules Faubert to think about,
but Tevezgate will not go away, why should Hammers lay down and get shafted
just because old red face and his cheesy business accomplices want to walk
over a 'smaller' club? Ironically Fergie, when questioned about the
potential departure of Gabriel Heinze said that there was no way he would
allow the player to end up at Liverpool, and yet the Mancs manager expects
West Ham to just roll over and die when it comes to where Tevez goes!.

Hammers blast back at Joorabchian - Daily Mail
Last updated at 11:55am on 19th July 2007

West Ham have publicly rejected claims by Kia Joorabchian that they have
made "inconsistent" statements about the status of Carlos Tevez. The
player's agent accused the club of failing to act upon "repeated promises
and assurances" over the Argentina international's proposed move to
Manchester United.
Joorabchian is still believed to hold the player's economic rights but West
Ham and the Premier League are adamant that United must deal directly with
them and not Joorabchian to settle the matter. A statement posted on the
West Ham official website www,whufc.com read: "West Ham United totally

SHOREY WANTS A ROYAL SEAL - Daily Mail
Thursday July 19,2007
By Matt Law Have your say(0)

NICKY SHOREY wants to know whether Reading can match his England ambitions
as West Ham prepare to make a £5million bid for the defender. Shorey's
contract with the Royals runs out in 2009 and, following an impressive first
season in the Premiership after which he won his first England cap, the
26-year-old has been the subject of an enquiry from West Ham. Reading have
told Shorey they want to give him a new deal, but are yet to put a firm
offer to him. The club return from their tour of Korea at the end of this
week and the former Leyton Orient man is hoping to get some answers once he
is back in England.
"My agent has been dealing with my contract, but, so far, I haven't received
an offer," said Shorey from Reading's Korean base. "Things should become a
little clearer when we get back to England. "I don't know what's going to
happen. I want to see where Reading see me in their plans and also where the
club are going."
West Ham are willing to pay up to £5m for Shorey, who was born a stone's
throw from the Hammers' Chadwell Heath training ground. "I have a few family
connections with West Ham and it's flattering to hear they might be
interested in me. We'll just have to see what happens," he said. Apart from
protecting his Premiership future, Shorey also needs to think about his
international ambitions after making his England debut against Brazil at the
start of last month. Shorey lost his place in Steve McClaren's squad for the
Euro 2008 qualifier against Estonia when Wayne Bridge was passed fit.
Chelsea have confirmed, however, that Bridge will miss the start of the new
season following a hip operation, catapulting Shorey back into the frame for
England's friendly against Germany and their two vital qualifying games
against Israel and Russia in September. "Obviously, it has gone through my
head that with Wayne being injured there may be an opportunity for me with
England," said Shorey. "I don't automatically think it will be me who steps
in, though, because there are a lot of good left-backs around at the moment.
"Maybe a few years ago it would have been easier but these days there is a
lot more competition. If I'm going to get back into the England squad, then
I'll need to start the season very well. "I suppose it does put a bit of
extra pressure on me but it will also give me a goal to aim for. "People
will be watching to see whether I was a one-season wonder or whether I can
maintain my performances. I need to prove I can be among the top left-backs
in the country on a consistent basis."
Talk of multi-million-pound transfers and England recalls is a world away
from Shorey's early days as a lower-league footballer with Leyton Orient.
But he insists he now feels totally at home mixing with such superstars as
David Beckham, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney. "Things have changed
unbelievably for me, but I actually felt very comfortable in the dressing
room with people like Beckham and Rooney," said Shorey. "All of the players
and the staff made me feel very welcome and I wouldn't feel at all nervous
about being around them again. "It does feel a little bit odd talking about
clubs wanting to sign me and playing for England, but it is a sign of how
much my game has progressed. "Playing in the Premiership and for your
country is the ultimate for any footballer."

Neill ready for redemption - news.co.au
July 20, 2007 12:00am

STRUGGLING Socceroo Lucas Neill is set for a reprieve after midfielder Luke
Wilkshire was ruled out of Saturday night's quarter-final against Japan.
Tournament officials confirmed today Wilkshire would miss the match -
Football Federation Australia told the player had picked up a second group
stage yellow card in the 4-0 win over Thailand last Monday. It was a
caution which snuck under the guard of all - Wilkshire himself bemused by
picking up a card soon after Australia's third goal for an offence which
remains a mystery to all including the Dutch-based midfielder. Neill,
Australia's player of the World Cup, now has a chance for redemption after a
wretched Asian Cup. The West Ham defender missed the Thailand game through
suspension himself, earning the public wrath of coach Graham Arnold for his
needless late red card for dissent in the 3-1 loss to Iraq. He has also been
hopelessly out of sorts in his two Asian Cup appearances to date. But in a
re-match of one of his finest hours - the 3-1 World Cup win over Japan in
which he played superbly - Neill is set to slot into a back three alongside
Mark Milligan and Michael Beauchamp. Brett Emerton, who played that role
against Thailand, is likely to be moved to fill Wilkshire's wide right
midfield position against the Japanese. Socceroos star Harry Kewell, benched
against Thailand, and Australia's player of the tournament so far Tim
Cahill, are set to come into contention for starting roles, though they may
both be used for impact off the bench. Cahill scored twice against the
Japanese as a substitute at the World Cup. Australia closed their training
sessions in Hanoi today, but according to goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer have not
yet started practising for penalties. Extra-time will come into play if
scores are deadlocked at the end of 90 minutes, with a penalty shootout to
follow if no breakthrough after 30 minutes added time - a scenario the
Socceroos are familiar with following their 2005 World Cup qualifier heroics
against Uruguay. Schwarzer saved two Uruguay penalties in that match to earn
himself national hero status before John Aloisi sealed Australia's passage
to their first World Cup finals in 32 years. But Schwarzer, who was also a
penalty shootout hero in a 1993 World Cup qualifier against Canada, said he
preferred to not practise saving penalties in training. "We haven't been
practising yet here - obviously we only arrived two days ago," Schwarzer
said. "I'm not one that likes practising penalties anyway. "Records don't
mean much in that situation - every penalty shootout is different and I'm
happy for the game to end 1-0 in our favour and not have to worry about
penalty shootouts."
The Socceroos have also arrived in Vietnam in the midst of a heatwave in the
country's north - where Hanoi is situated. Vietnam's weather bureau reported
today the high temperatures - with maximums of up to 38 degrees in the Hanoi
area - are set to continue until match day at least.

Curbishley eyes more new faces - Clubcall
20070719 10:24

Alan Curbishley says he wants to sign at least two more new players before
West Ham start their new Premiership campaign. The Hammers have already made
four new signings this summer, with Curbishley apturing Craig Bellamy, Scott
Parker, Julian Faubert and Richard Wright. The manager has also manged to
move some of his squad players on this month, which means Curbishley now has
further funds to spend on more new faces. The former Charlton boss
admitted: "I think I've got a squad that is young, agressive, quick and
hopefully can play a bit. I'm pleased with the players we've brought in and
hopefully, we can bring a couple more in, because I want to do that."

Premier League Rumour Mill: Hammers look to LuaLua -Daily Mail
By DANNY GRIFFITHS - More by this author »

West Ham are putting the Carlos Tevez affair to one side to concentrate on
beefing up their current strikeforce. Craig Bellamy has already been added
to the attack from Liverpool and Dean Ashton is finally back from the injury
which sidelined him for all of last season. But the Hammers have allowed
Marlon Harewood to join Aston Villa and may let Bobby Zamora join Reading or
Blackburn if they receive the right offer. Upton park officials have
identified a number of overseas targets and closer to home they are
considering a move for Portsmouth forward Lomana LuaLua but face competition
from Wigan. West Ham are also trying to shore up their defence by signing
Nicky Shorey from the Royals.

West Ham accused by agent in Tevez move - Telegraph
By Giles Mole and agencies
Last Updated: 10:19am BST 19/07/2007

Kia Joorabchian, the agent of Manchester United target Carlos Tevez, has
accused West Ham of making inconsistent statements about the player's
future.
Joorabchian, who is trying to negotiate Tevez's move to Old Trafford, has
accused West Ham of failing to act upon "repeated promises and assurances"
with regard to the player's possible transfer. He has confirmed his
intention to bring "the true circumstances" to the attention of both Fifa
and the Football Association. World governing body Fifa have already been
called in to end the deadlock surrounding Tevez's proposed transfer. A
planned medical for the 24-year-old has been cancelled, with United
officials confirming that while Tevez did visit United's Carrington training
complex yesterday - meeting, amongst others, captain Gary Neville - he has
not undergone any physical examination, which would have been conducted away
from club premises anyway. United have attempted to distance themselves from
the argument surrounding Tevez's registration, although it is obvious they
believe Joorabchian, not West Ham, is the party who has control over the
Argentina star. Joorabchian also believes he owns the player's rights and a
statement released by lawyers representing the Iranian businessman and his
company MSI read: "Press statements both today [Wednesday] and over the last
few weeks are wholly inconsistent with the real circumstances and the
situation presented to us by West Ham concerning Carlos Tevez. "We as a
company have patiently kept away from the issues including West Ham in order
to give the club the opportunity to resolve the matter in a legal and
agreeable way acceptable to all parties. "West Ham have consistently
provided private assurances while at the same time making contrary
statements to the public at large. "We can no longer allow these
inconsistencies to continue unaddressed. "We wish to make clear that at all
times it has been our intention to find an amicable solution and Carlos
Tevez has, at no time, acted improperly in relation to his move to
Manchester United Football Club as he was given permission via his
representatives to talk to other clubs to reach an amicable agreement. "Over
the last six months West Ham have made repeated promises and assurances
which they have not acted upon or performed. It is now time for these
inconsistencies to be brought to an end. "We see no alternative but to bring
the true circumstances to the attention of a higher authority to aid a rapid
conclusion to this issue."

West Ham United can also confirm that all documentation regarding the Club
and Carlos Tevez has already been submitted to the Premier League and fully
scrutinised by them. We have ensured full disclosure. The Club has in recent
weeks made every effort to keep Carlos Tevez at West Ham United and indeed
offered significantly improved terms and conditions to the player, which
were not accepted. However, a transfer of a properly registered player
cannot occur without agreement between two clubs and the Premier League.
Without such an agreement we believe that it is in the interest of all
parties to resolve this issue as quickly as possible through the procedures
laid down by FIFA.
Public threats and accusations are irrelevant, let FIFA decide and West Ham
United will accept that judgement whatever the outcome. The time has come to
settle this matter in a way which will allow everyone concerned to move on.

Galey backing Bellamy to be a success - WHUFC
18/07/2007 12:04

Tony Gale believes that new arrival Craig Bellamy will be a huge success at
Upton Park. The Welsh striker - signed last week in a £7.5million deal from
Liverpool - impressed on his debut against Czech side Sigma Olomouc on
Tuesday evening, and the former Hammers defender insists that Alan
Curbishley has pulled off a real coup. "I think it's a great signing for the
Club," says Galey. "Craig is the type of player I call a haemorrhoid - a
real pain in the backside!
"He is pacy, aggressive, and doesn't stop working - a nightmare for
defenders. Back when I was playing, I used to hate playing against David
Speedie, and Craig is very similar. "He is permanently at you, hassling and
trying to sniff out a chance, and when he gets in behind he can be very
dangerous. "We've got two strikers in Deano and Bobby who love facing up to
the play with their back to the goal, now we've got that other option of a
pacy forward who is lethal over 10-15 yards. "We've got him at the right
time, too. Craig has got to the stage of his career where he needs to be
playing regular football and perhaps get rid of that reputation that
precedes him. "I think he was frustrated by the lack of opportunities at
Liverpool last season, but there can be no doubting the level of his
ability, and the chance to be the main man at West Ham will hopefully bring
out the best in him. "I also think the fans will love him," adds Galey. "He
plays as though his life depends on it, and that will go down well at Upton
Park. If he can add a few more goals to his game, then he will be a huge
success.

Joorabchian hits out at West Ham - BBC

Carlos Tevez's adviser Kia Joorabchian has criticised West Ham's conduct
over the Argentine's proposed transfer to Manchester United. With the move
of the 23-year-old forward deadlocked, Joorabchian made his critical
comments in a statement. It read: "Over the last six months West Ham have
made repeated promises and assurances, which they have not acted upon or
performed." If United do sign Tevez, he might not join before the transfer
window closes. Joorabchian's statement continued: "It's time for these
inconsistencies to be brought to an end. "We see no alternative but to bring
the true circumstances to the attention of a higher authority to aid a rapid
conclusion to this issue."
United chief executive David Gill has expressed his confidence that Tevez
will eventually become a United player. But he said: "Hopefully the case
will be heard on an expedited basis but we are not sure whether we will have
him signed in time for the new season. "It may take up to two weeks for the
body to be formed, all the paperwork has to be put together and then the
case has to be heard. "Even given that timetable we hope by the time the new
season kicks off, Carlos will be training at Carrington."
With Fifa set to look at the transfer after they were asked by both United
and West Ham to intervene, it is understood the authorities Joorabchian
refers to are both the FA and the world governing body. Tevez was in
Manchester on Tuesday but West Ham refused permission for him to have a
medical at Old Trafford.
A special 'Dispute Resolution Chamber' will be set up by Fifa, possibly
within a fortnight, to effectively determine who currently owns Tevez - West
Ham or Joorabchian. The Hammers insist they are still waiting to receive an
offer for Tevez. And the Premier League says a deal must be done between
United and West Ham but not Joorabchian, of Media Sports Investments (MSI),
who owns Tevez's economic rights. West Ham released a statement on Tuesday,
which said: "No agreement has been reached in relation to Carlos Tevez."
Under Premier League rules, one club is not allowed to give a player a
medical unless his current club agree. Tevez flew into Manchester on Tuesday
after finishing on the losing side with Argentina in Sunday's Copa America
final against Brazil, while Manchester United are on a pre-season tour in
Japan. United's legal expert Maurice Watkins has remained in England as
efforts to resolve the dispute intensify. The Premier League has insisted
West Ham, which holds Tevez's registration, must receive the majority of the
reported £30m fee rather than Joorabchian. Last week, a Premier League
spokesman stated: "Any deal for Carlos Tevez has to be done directly with
West Ham United. "They hold the registration and we will not transfer the
registration unless a deal is done directly with the club."
West Ham were only allowed to keep playing Tevez last season after assuring
the Premier League all third-party clauses in the player's contract had been
severed. But Joorabchian was confident last week that he had a sound legal
footing to push through the transfer. "We don't see any problems. I spoke to
United and they are confident they will have him registered within days," he
claimed. "Personal terms between Carlos and United have been agreed in full.
He feels confident now he is a Manchester United player."

Man Utd Tevez talks to continue - BBC

Talks are set to continue between Manchester United, West Ham and the
Premier League over the protracted transfer of Carlos Tevez. Tevez flew in
to Manchester on Tuesday but West Ham refused permission for him to have a
medical at Old Trafford. The Hammers insist they are still waiting to
receive an offer for Tevez. And the Premier League says a deal must be done
between United and West Ham, but not Kia Joorabchian, of MSI, who owns the
23-year-old's economic rights. BBC Radio Five Live's Gordon Farquhar said:
"Tevez's registration will not be transferred until the Premier League are
happy and West Ham agree. "So United are going to have to be patient as the
Hammers exert their rights over the man they still consider to be their
player." West Ham released a statement on Tuesday saying: "No agreement has

day of talks led by chairman Eggert Magnusson for the Hammers and Maurice
Watkins for United, there is no deal and West Ham clearly aren't going to be
railroaded into this," added Farquar. "They have refused a written transfer
request, are asserting their rights over the player and are going to insist
on this being a transfer between two clubs and not with a third party, the
MSI group, whatever their claims over economic rights to the player may be."
It is the latest twist in a transfer saga that United chief executive David

Man Utd call in Fifa over Tevez - BBC

Manchester United chief executive David Gill says the club has asked Fifa to
intervene in the Carlos Tevez dispute. Tevez, 23, was in Manchester on
Tuesday but West Ham refused permission for him to have a medical at Old
Trafford. Gill said the case would be rushed through by Fifa so that it
could be dealt with as soon as possible. West Ham have also asked for the
matter to be referred to Fifa, with a spokesman adding: "All parties agree
this is the best way forward."
Gill has expressed his confidence the 23-year-old Argentina international
striker would eventually become a United player. The Hammers insist they are

Tevez 'convinced' of Utd move - Sky
By Mark Buckingham - Created on 19 Jul 2007

Carlos Tevez is 'convinced' he will be playing for Manchester United this
season. The latest twist in the ongoing tale has seen the Premier League
champions, and West Ham United, ask Fifa's Dispute Resolution Chamber to
arbitrate on the issue. The stumbling block to Tevez's move to Old Trafford
continues to revolve around his registration, with The Hammers holding his
playing registration and Kia Joorabchian his economic rights. United have
expressed their confidence that the matter will end with the Argentine being
part of Sir Alex Ferguson's squad in the coming campaign. And Tevez, who is
heading off on holiday after an Old Trafford medical was blocked, is also
hopeful he will be a Red Devil before the close of the transfer window. "I
am not interested whether Fifa enter into this or not, but I do want a
positive solution to allow me to move to Manchester United in the same way
Javier Mascherano joined Liverpool in January," said Tevez in the Daily
Mirror. "I see this as only a money problem between clubs. I want West Ham
to close the deal so I can play for Manchester United. "I have fulfilled the
orders of my agents (MSI) and after the final of the Copa America I have
travelled to England. I want a solution as quickly as possible. "I am very
grateful to West Ham. The club and the fans are sensational, but when it
comes to football, I believe a good transfer will be good for them. "I would
like the deal completed so I can go on holiday full of peace and calm. "But
I am convinced I will play for Manchester United next season."
Joorabchian released a statement on Wednesday evening claiming 'West Ham
have made repeated promises and assurances which they have not acted upon or
performed'.

Joorabchian hits out at Hammers - Sky
By Peter ORourke - Created on 18 Jul 2007

Carlos Tevez's representatives have accused West Ham of making misleading
public statements about the player. The Argentine's proposed move to
Manchester United has been held up after a dispute between West Ham,
Manchester United and Tevez's agent Kia Joorabchian. Tevez arrived in
Manchester on Tuesday to undergo a medical, but West Ham refused permission
for the medical to go ahead and the player has now gone away on holiday with
his future still up in the air. The wrangle over his ownership rights
continues with West Ham claiming they own Tevez, while Joorabchian's Media
Sports Investment group say they own the economic rights of the player.
Manchester United have asked Fifa to intervene to try and resolve the
dispute, while West Ham have also referred the matter to football's world
governing body. Joorabchian has now also revealed he plans to take the
affair to Fifa and the Football Association to try and sort out the wrangle
and he has accused West Ham of lying over what they are saying about Tevez.
In a statement released by the businessman's lawyers, Joorabchian said:
"Press statements both today and over last few weeks are wholly inconsistent
with the real circumstances and the situation presented to us by West Ham
concerning Carlos Tevez. "We as a company have patiently kept away from the
issues including West Ham in order to give the club the opportunity to
resolve the matter in a legal and agreeable way acceptable to all parties.
"West Ham have consistently provided private assurances while at the same
time making contrary statements to the public at large. "We can no longer
allow these inconsistencies to continue unaddressed.
"During his time at West Ham Carlos Tevez performed at a high standard. He
was voted Hammer of the Year by the club's fans. "There was a period at the
end of last year when Carlos had the opportunity to leave the club and yet
he decided to stay to successfully help West Ham survive in the Premier
League.
"We wish to make clear that at all times it has been our intention to find
an amicable solution and Carlos Tevez has, at no time, acted improperly in
relation to his move to Manchester United Football Club as he was given
permission via his representatives to talk to other clubs to reach an
amicable agreement.
"Over the last six months West Ham have made repeated promises and
assurances which they have not acted upon or performed. It is now time for
these inconsistencies to be brought to an end. "We see no alternative but to

FAUBERT WORRY FOR HAMMERS - Sky
By Mark Buckingham - Created on 18 Jul 2007

New signing Julien Faubert has provided West Ham United with an injury
scare. The France international picked up an injury during the club's 1-0
friendly defeat to Sigma Olomouc on Tuesday. Faubert was substituted after
35 minutes of the game in Austria after suffering an Achilles problem. The
winger will undergo tests on the injury on Wednesday to ascertain the full
extent of the damage. There are fears that the knock will be serious enough
to force Faubert out of the start of the new Premier League season. If the
injury does prove to be serious, it will be a second blow for Faubert, whose
move to Upton Park has been criticised by France national team coach Raymond
Domenech.

United take Tevez row to Fifa - Sky
By Mark Buckingham - Created on 18 Jul 2007

Manchester United are going to Fifa in an attempt to secure the signing of
Carlos Tevez from West Ham United. The Argentina international is currently
in Manchester as he waits to undergo a medical with the Premier League
champions. West Ham have prevented the tests taking place after talks
between the two clubs failed to bring about a resolution to the impasse. The
Hammers insist no offer has been made for Tevez, although The Red Devils
have expressed their optimism that a deal can be arranged. The problem
centres on the striker's contractual situation, with West Ham seemingly
holding his playing registration and his agent Kia Joorabchian holding the
economic rights. Only last week, Fifa confirmed it would be prepared to
intervene in the matter, if asked to by any of the parties involved. The Red
Devils have now taken the issue in to their own hands and have called on
world football's governing body to wade into the complex affair. Chief
executive David Gill has confirmed the club have requested that Fifa's
Disputes Resolution Chamber arbitrate on the case.

Gill 'very confident' over Tevez - Sky
By Mark Buckingham - Created on 18 Jul 2007

David Gill remains confident Manchester United can complete the signing of
Carlos Tevez before the close of the transfer window. Fifa's Disputes
Resolution Chamber has been asked to adjudicate on the matter after the
Premier League champions failed to reach a deal with West Ham United on
Tuesday. It could take several weeks for the issue to be resolved by Fifa,
raising the possibility of the window shutting before the transfer is
finalised. But United chief executive Gill is upbeat about the prospect of
Tevez being in Sir Alex Ferguson's plans for the new season. "We're very
confident, as is the player, that the situation will be resolved in favour
of Tevez," Gill told reporters. "He will then be free to achieve his, and
our, wish to join United. "Hopefully the case will be heard on an expedited
basis, but we are not sure whether we will have him signed in time for the
new season. "It may take up to two weeks for the body to be formed, all the
paperwork has to be put together and then the case has to be heard. "Even
given that timetable we hope by the time the new season kicks off, Carlos
will be training at Carrington. "It may take a short period, but, based on
what we've seen and the discussions we've had over the last few weeks, we're
very confident this will be resolved and that Tevez will be a major part of
Sir Alex's squad this season."
Tevez has been in Manchester, where he was due to undergo a medical before
West Ham put a block on the tests taking place, but will now head off on
holiday, with Gill confirming that was always Ferguson's intention. Gill
added: "It was always Sir Alex's plan to give Carlos a break, so I expect he
will now go on an exotic holiday with his family. "He has not completed a
medical with us."

Manyoo go to FIFA - KUMB
Filed: Wednesday, 18th July 2007
By: Matthew O'Greel

FIFA have been asked to intervene in the transfer row surrounding Carlos
Tevez's proposed move to Manchester United. Reds chief executive David Gill,
speaking at a press conference in Seoul where the league champions are
currently on tour, told reporters: "There have been a lot of discussion
with the Premier League, West Ham [United] and Maurice Watkins over the last
few days. "The player and West Ham will take the case to the FIFA Dispute
Resolution Chamber. We're very confident, as is the player, that the
situation will be resolved in favour of Tevez. He will then be free to
achieve his, and our, wish to join [Manchester] United. "Based on what we've
seen, and the discussions we've had over the last few weeks, we're very
confident this will be resolved and that he will be a major of Sir Alex's
squad this season."
FIFA stated recently that they were powerless to intervene in domestic
transfers. However given the intense media interest in the Tevez saga it may
decide to relax that ruling on this occasion.

Benayoun: West Ham for Europe - KUMB
Filed: Wednesday, 18th July 2007

Yossi Benayoun has tipped the Hammers to break into the European spots this
year, a week after signing for Liverpool. The Israeli midfielder, speaking
from Liverpool's training camp in Switzerland last night said that he
believes Alan Curbishley's side are ready to push on - despite the horrors
of last season. And he attributed the problems of last season to the many
'behind the scenes' changes which occured during the last 12 months at Upton
Park. "Ssometimes teams change, sometimes managers change and sometimes the
owners change. But everything in one season was too much," he said. "When we
got to the FA Cup final in 2006 we thought we would be a better team the
next season. But suddenly we started falling and couldn't stop. We were
lucky to prove our ability at the end of the season. "To win seven from
nine showed how strong the squad was."
Benayoun spent two years with the Hammers before making a £4.5m switch to
Anfield last week.

Sacre bleu! Faubert crocked - KUMB
Filed: Wednesday, 18th July 2007
By: Matthew O'Greel

Julien Faubert could miss the start of the season as West Ham United's
summer injury jinx struck yet again. Faubert - making only his second start
for the Hammers in Austria against Sigma last night - is understood to have
sustained an injury to his achilles ten minutes before the break in last
night's 1-0 defeat.
The 23-year-old is set to undertake a scan tomorrow in order to determine
the extent of the injury. The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the
human body, and is a common injury amongst sports men and women. The worst
case scenario - a complete rupture - could see the French winger out for
three to four months. * Dean Ashton missed the whole of last season after
suffering pre-season injury whilst training with England.

Joorabchian rounds on West Ham in Tevez row - Soccernet

Kia Joorabchian ramped up the pressure on West Ham on Wednesday night by
accusing the club of making misleading public statements over the Carlos
Tevez affair. Joorabchian, who is trying to negotiate Tevez's move to
Manchester United, accused West Ham of failing to act upon 'repeated
promises and assurances' with regard to the player's future. And he
confirmed his intention to bring 'the true circumstances' to the attention
of both FIFA and the Football Association. In a statement released by the
businessman's lawyers, Joorabchian said: 'Press statements both today and
over last few weeks are wholly inconsistent with the real circumstances and
the situation presented to us by West Ham concerning Carlos Tevez. 'We as a
company have patiently kept away from the issues including West Ham in order
to give the club the opportunity to resolve the matter in a legal and
agreeable way acceptable to all parties. 'West Ham have consistently

club's fans. 'There was a period at the end of last year when Carlos had the

help West Ham survive in the Premier League. 'We wish to make clear that at
all times it has been our intention to find an amicable solution and Carlos
Tevez has, at no time, acted improperly in relation to his move to
Manchester United Football Club as he was given permission via his
representatives to talk to other clubs to reach an amicable agreement. 'Over
the last six months West Ham have made repeated promises and assurances
which they have not acted upon or performed. It is now time for these
inconsistencies to be brought to an end. 'We see no alternative but to bring
the true circumstances to the attention of a higher authority to aid a rapid
conclusion to this issue.'
It is understood those authorities are both the FA and FIFA. FIFA have been
called in to end the deadlock surrounding Tevez's move to Old Trafford. Both
West Ham and Manchester United believe only FIFA can break the impasse over
the player's ownership, which has held up the proposed £30million-plus
transfer.
Joorabchian, and his company MSI, claims to own Tevez's economic rights,
while West Ham insist the striker is contracted and registered with them.
The Premier League have demanded West Ham must receive the bulk of the
transfer fee if they are to sanction the move. The league have now been
asked to send the case to FIFA - a move welcomed by Joorabchian, who is
ready to show documentary evidence he claims proves West Ham gave permission
for the deal to go ahead. FIFA will be asked for their dispute resolution
panel or players' status committee to step in and decide whether Tevez is
fully bound by his existing contract with West Ham or not. Joorabchian's
decision to adopt an aggressive stance over the issue is understood to have
been prompted, in part at least, by reports which emanated from West Ham
yesterday that the club had refused permission for Tevez to undergo a
medical at Manchester United.
He was also anxious to ensure Tevez does not get painted as the villain of
the piece by confirming the striker turned down moves away from Upton Park
in January. It is understood two leading European clubs were interested. One
of those is believed to have been Juventus.

Carlos Tevez row left in Fifa hands - Telegraph
By Mark Ogden in Seoul and John Ley
Last Updated: 1:49am BST 19/07/2007

Manchester United have written off the prospects of Carlos Tevez completing
his controversial move to Old Trafford in time for next month's Community
Shield meeting against Chelsea. The Premiership champions also fear that the
Argentine's future could remain unresolved when the Premiership kicks off on
Aug 11 following the decision of the player and his club, West Ham, to go to
Fifa in an effort to clarify once and for all the clouded issue of his
ownership. Plans by United to wrap up a deal worth £30 million for the
23-year-old forward early next week have now been ripped up and a proposed
medical examination due to take place in Manchester today has been shelved
because of West Ham's refusal to grant permission. While United remain
confident that Tevez will be their player before the transfer window closes
on Aug 31, the possibility of a protracted hearing at Fifa's disputes
resolution chamber (DRC) has placed a growing question mark over just when a
deal could be finalised. The chamber do not meet again until August 9 - two
days before the start of the season. A West Ham spokesman said: "It now
makes sense for this to be dealt with by Fifa. All parties agree this is the
best way forward and, of course, we'll be involved in helping this to be
resolved as quickly as possible."
United chief executive David Gill, in Seoul, said: "I'm not certain on the
timescale of all this, but I have spoken to our club solicitor, Maurice
Watkins, and he tells us it can take two weeks to arrange for the body to
form and papers on the case to be pulled together."
Tevez will claim that he signed a one-year contract at West Ham with an
option of a further year that has not been taken up by the London club,
theoretically leaving him free to move on. But West Ham are understood to be
ready to counter that argument by insisting they have a four-year contract
with the player.
If Fifa find in Tevez's favour, United will be free to negotiate the terms
of the transfer with Media Sports Investments, the company who own his
economic rights. However, a finding supporting West Ham's case would leave
United to strike a deal with them, and not MSI, to buy out the remainder of
Tevez's contract.
Gill added: "We are very confident the issue will be resolved in favour of
the player and for him to achieve his and our wish to join Manchester
United. Based on what we've seen and the discussions we've had, we're very
confident it will go in Carlos' favour and that he will be part of Sir Alex
Ferguson's squad next season. "Carlos has not undergone a medical and he
will probably now take a well-earned break with his family because the plan,
had he signed for us by now, had always been for him join up with the squad
after we had returned from our tour of Asia. But we remain confident that,
by the time the season starts, Carlos will be training with us at
Carrington."
The chances of the matter being referred to the Court of Arbitration for
Sport (CAS) are high, according to Mick McGuire, deputy chief executive for
the Professional Footballers' Association and an English board member of
Fifpro, who represent players in disputes that go to the DRC. He said: "It
could drag on. But Fifa make the regulations on transfer windows and know
the time frames - you would hope they take that into account. You can take
it to the next stage, to CAS, and that would be the final appeal stage."
Whether a case is suitable for the DRC or a player status committee depends
on the dispute, whether it is club-to-club or player-to-club. McGuire added:
"It's a matter of which avenue is most appropriate. It could be seen as a
dispute between Manchester United and West Ham, or between Tevez and West
Ham."

Carlos Tevez affair - Questions and Answers - Telegraph
By John Ley
Last Updated: 1:49am BST 19/07/2007

1) Why can't Tevez join Manchester United now?

United need to come to an agreement with West Ham, rather than Kia
Joorabchian, Tevez's representative.

2) Who owns Tevez?

West Ham own his contract after tearing up the third party agreement with
Joorabchian. They claim that Tevez has a four-year playing contract with the
club. But MSI, Joorabchian's company, claim that they own Tevez's economic
rights and contest West Ham's rights over the player.

3) What is the Premier League's stance?

They are adamant that West Ham own Tevez's registration and, therefore, any
deal for the player must be done between the two clubs before a deal can be
ratified.

4) Can Fifa bring the affair to a conclusion?

Probably not. Fifa's dispute resolution chamber could attempt to determine
who hold the rights but they might only be able to advise. If no agreement
can be found, the affair could be referred to the Court of Arbitration for
Sport.

5) What is the likely outcome?

Hard to say. West Ham will hold out for a large transfer fee, even if Tevez
signs on loan, while Manchester United and Joorabchian maintain that they
are doing the deal. Tevez is unlikely to sign before the season begins on
Aug 11 and if he fails to move before Aug 31, he would return to West Ham.

6) Could this affect Sheffield United?

No. The Blades maintain they are the injured party and, after failing last
Friday to force new Premier League disciplinary action against West Ham, are
still considering whether to take further action. Sheffield United will
watch with interest, but the best they can expect is compensation. It is
highly unlikely they will be reinstated to the Premiership.

Joorabchian snaps over 'inconsistent' West Ham - This Is London
19.07.07

West Ham have been accused of double standards over the handling of Carlos
Tevez. In an angry statement released late last night on behalf of Tevez's
owner Kia Joorabchian, West Ham were accused of failing to act upon
'repeated promises and assurances'. Sportsmail understands there is
explosive documentation held by Joorabchian that, until yesterday, was
likely to remain out of the public domain. Now, with his patience wearing
thin, he says he will bring "the true circumstances" to the attention of
FIFA and the FA. In a statement released by his lawyer Graham Shear,
Joorabchian said: "We as a company have patiently kept away from the issues
including West Ham in order to give the club the opportunity to resolve the
matter in a legal and agreeable way.
"West Ham have consistently provided private assurances while making
contrary statements to the public at large. "We can no longer allow these
inconsistencies to continue unaddressed. "During his time at West Ham Carlos
Tevez performed at a high standard. There was a period at the end of last
year when Carlos had the opportunity to leave the club and yet he decided to
stay to successfully help West Ham survive in the Premier League. "We wish
to make clear that at all times it has been our intention to find an
amicable solution and Carlos Tevez has, at no time, acted improperly in
relation to his move to Manchester United as he was given permission via his
representatives to talk to other clubs to reach an amicable agreement. "Over
the past six months West Ham have made repeated promises and assurances
which they have not acted upon or performed. It is time for these
inconsistencies to be brought to an end. "We see no alternative but to bring
the true circumstances to the attention of a higher authority to aid a rapid
conclusion to this issue." Joorabchian was alongside Tevez in Manchester
yesterday and is determined the transfer of his prize asset will be
concluded.

Kia slams West Ham over Tevez - The Sun
By NEIL CUSTIS
July 19, 2007

WEST HAM were last night accused of making misleading statements over the
Carlos Tevez affair. Kia Joorabchian, who is trying to negotiate the Argie's
move to Manchester United, claimed the Hammers have failed to act upon
"repeated promises and assurances" over the striker's future. And he
insisted he will bring "the true circumstances" to the attention of FIFA and
the FA. In a report released by his lawyers, Joorabchian said: "Statements
are wholly inconsistent with the real circumstances and the situation
presented to us by West Ham concerning Carlos Tevez. "West Ham have
consistently provided private assurances while at the same time making
contrary statements to the public. "We can no longer allow these
inconsistencies to continue unaddressed.
"Over the last six months West Ham have made repeated promises and
assurances which they have not acted upon or performed. "It is now time for
these inconsistencies to be brought to an end. We see no alternative but to
bring the true circumstances to the attention of a higher authority to aid a
rapid conclusion to this issue."
Both clubs have called for FIFA to try to end the stalemate. They believe
only the game's top brass can break the stalemate over the 23-year-old's
ownership, which has held up the planned £30million-plus transfer.
Joorabchian, and his company MSI, claims to own Tevez's economic rights,
while West Ham insist the striker is contracted and registered with them.
Earlier a West Ham spokesman, referring to FIFA stepping in, said: "All
parties agree this is the best way forward and we will be involved in
helping this be resolved as quickly as possible." Tevez jetted into
Manchester on Tuesday for a proposed medical yesterday — but the Hammers
blocked it, claiming they had not given permission. Old Trafford chief
executive David Gill insisted: "It might take up to two weeks for the FIFA
body to be formed to hear the case. I am still confident that Carlos will
start the season training with us."

West Ham: Victims or Idiots? - Soccerlens
Written by Ahmed Bilal

In the last few months West Ham fans have become increasingly defensive and
come out in droves to protect the honour of West Ham United whenever the
club is criticised. Think that West Ham were leniently treated by the
Premier League? You're just feeding on media propaganda and don't know the
truth.
Think that West Ham is being ditched by ambitious players and joined by
squad players? You don't know football then. Think that West Ham are being
pricks over Tevez or that they have no legal rights over the player? You're
a West Ham hater! Yes. You. You're a West Ham hater for thinking that a club
that signs a potentially damaging contract and then lies to the Premier
League AND is punished in April, not in January when the issue was
discovered, was leniently treated.
You're a West Ham hater for thinking that they won't make the top 6 or top 8
next season (Having Craig Bellamy in your team does NOT guarantee you
European football, mind you - it just guarantees that there will be
fighting). You're a West Ham hater for thinking that - because all West Hams
DO have law degrees, are intimately familiar with the legal issues at stake
and furthermore are not biased, AT ALL. Quite frankly, this whole "the world
is against us" bullshit is a childish excuse to deal with the real issues.
I'm up for debate and I'll discuss anything, anywhere, with anyone. But if
your best defense is that because I disagree with you I'm influenced by
third-rate media (who I thoroughly despise, mind you) or that I support a
big club so I'm arrogant, then yes, you're going to get the same tripe that
you are usually dished out.

Idiocy doesn't deserve better.

TWO-FACED - The Mirror
Tevez rep accuses Hammers as FIFA step in to sort out mess
By David Mcdonnell And John Cross 19/07/2007

CARLOS TEVEZ has pleaded with FIFA to let him quit West Ham in a £30million
dream move to Manchester United as his representative Kia Joorabchian
launched a stinging attack on the Hammers. Accusing the Upton Park outfit of
being two-faced, the Iranian-born businessman said: "West Ham have
consistently provided private assurances while at the same time making
contrary statements to the public at large." Things came to a head yesterday
after talks between United, West Ham, Joorabchian and the Premier League
failed to settle the issue. Now FIFA will have the final say on one of the
most controversial transfers in recent history. But Joorabchian turned the
screw on the underpressure Hammers, adding: "We see no alternative but to
bring the true circumstances to the attention of a higher authority. "Over
the last six months West Ham have made repeated promises and assurances
which they have not acted upon or performed. It is now time for these
inconsistencies to be brought to an end. "We can no longer allow these
inconsistencies to continue unaddressed."
Tevez is desperate to join United and he and Joorabchian are contesting West
Ham's claim that they have the striker tied to a four-year deal. The
Argentina star insists he only joined them on a one-year contract, with an
option to extend, which he claims was never taken up.Positive Tevez said: "I
want a positive solution to allow me to move to Manchester United in the
same way Javier Mascherano joined Liverpool in January. "I am very grateful
to West Ham. The club and the fans are sensational but when it comes to
football, I believe a good transfer will be good for them. "I would like the
deal completed so I can go on holiday full of peace and calm. But I am
convinced I will play for Manchester United next season."
If FIFA decide in Tevez's favour, United will be free to negotiate a deal
with Joorabchian to sign the 23-year-old. Any transfer would be scrutinised
by the Premier League. But if FIFA find in favour of West Ham and decide
that Tevez is under contract, United would then have to begin the process of
negotiating a transfer free with the Hammers in order to sign him. United
chief executive David Gill, speaking on the club's pre-season tour of the
Far East, said he remained confident FIFA will find in Tevez's favour and
that the player will be theirs before the transfer deadline on August 31.
Gill said: "We're very confident that the issue will be resolved in favour
of the player and for him to achieve his and our wish to join Manchester
United." A West Ham spokesman said: "It now makes sense for this to be dealt
with by FIFA. All parties agree this is the best way forward."

United forced to call in Fifa as dispute over Tevez drags on - The Times
Oliver Kay in Seoul

Manchester United's players were mobbed on arrival in South Korea yesterday,
but, increasingly, their pre-season tour to Asia is being dominated by the
man who isn't there. The proposed signing of Carlos Tévez from West Ham
United is on hold because of numerous legal complications, with the English
champions told yesterday that a resolution may not be reached until the
final days of the August transfer window – or possibly even beyond.

After talks between the clubs on Tuesday ended without an agreement on the
transfer, it emerged yesterday that the clubs requested that the matter be
passed on to Fifa's dispute resolution chamber for mediation, with Tévez and
his "owner", Kia Joorabchian, eager to secure a move to Old Trafford.

David Gill, the United chief executive, said in Seoul yesterday that he was
"very confident this will be resolved in favour of the player and he will be
free to achieve his wish", but the transfer seems highly unlikely to proceed
within the time frame that Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager, had envisaged.

Fifa, the game's world governing body, said yesterday that "if a complaint
is submitted, our legal department will take a look at it and see whether we
are the competent authority to deal with the matter", with Gill forecasting
that even that process may take a fortnight.

Gill suggested that Tévez may be free to train with United before the
Barclays Premier League season begins on August 11, but there are growing
concerns that the issue could take substantially longer because of the
complications surrounding the relationship between the Argentina forward,
Joorabchian and West Ham.

Tévez, Joorabchian and, by extension, United believe that the player is free
to leave West Ham because of a get-out clause in the contract that he signed
on arrival last August from Corinthians, the Brazilian club. West Ham, on
the other hand, claim that he signed a four-year contract.

United's hope is that the player's registration with West Ham will
effectively be cancelled, as happened with Javier Mascherano, his fellow
Argentine import, when he joined Liverpool in January. But one difference is
that the East London club were willing to offload Mascherano, whereas they
may be prepared to go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne in
the dispute over Tévez.

"Hopefully, the case will be heard on an expedited basis, but we are not
sure whether we will have him signed in time for the [start of the] new
season," Gill said. "But based on the discussions we've had over the last
few weeks, we're confident this will be resolved and that Tévez will be a
major part of Sir Alex's squad this season."

Even without Tévez, Ferguson and his players received a rapturous welcome at
Seoul's Incheon airport yesterday before a match against FC Seoul tomorrow.
Park Ji Sung, South Korea's most celebrated player, is not fit to
participate in the tour – and could be out until the new year with cruciate
ligament damage, suffered in March – but his presence among the travelling
party has without question brought an extra dimension to United's appeal in
a country where football is suddenly rivalling baseball in the popularity
stakes.

It is another stamp in the passport for the rest of United's globe-trotters
and, while Ferguson, at 65, has seen it all before, he professes to be
energised and ready for his 34th season as a manager. "I will never set a
date to retire," he said. "I tried that some years ago and made a mistake.
When you get to my age, you have to consider your health. That's something
you can't control, but I feel good."

So, too, does Edwin van der Sar, the oldest of United's players. The
goal-keeper admitted being "disappointed" with his form at the end of last
season and was also embarrassed during the 2-2 draw with Urawa Red Diamonds
in Saitama on Tuesday, when he was wrong-footed by a swerving shot from
Hideki Uchidata, but he dismissed suggestions that age was catching up with
him at 36, even if it is not yet clear whether he will continue playing when
his contract expires next summer.

Man Utd chief: Tevez trains with us
tribalfooball.com - July 18, 2007

Manchester United expect Carlos Tevez to do his preseason with the club as
his transfer from West Ham continues to be delayed. The Premier League
champions remain confident he will eventually become their player - but
there remains a strong possibility Tevez might not be signed before the
start of the season. And the delay could even go beyond the August 31
transfer deadline. United chief executive David Gill said: "Hopefully the
case will be heard on an expedited basis but we are not sure whether we will
have him signed in time for the new season. "It may take up to two weeks for
the body to be formed, all the paperwork has to be put together and then the
case has to be heard. "Even given that timetable we hope by the time the new
season kicks off, Carlos will be training at Carrington."
Even if the dispute does drag on beyond the end of August, Tevez could still
join United between transfer windows if FIFA declare him an effective free
agent.
Gill added: "There have been a lot of discussions over the last few days
between Manchester United, West Ham and the Premier League but the case will
probably go before FIFA's dispute resolution chamber. "We are very confident
this will be resolved in favour of the player and he will be free to achieve
his wish of joining Manchester United. "All the discussions we have had over
the last few weeks lead us to believe this will be resolved in Carlos'
favour. "Once that happens, he will be free to join Manchester United."

Tevez dispute goes to Fifa - Viewlondon.co.uk

The ongoing dispute between Manchester United, West Ham United, the Premier
League and an alleged third-party owner of Carlos Tevez will be settled by
Fifa. Both clubs have agreed that mediation by football's world governing
body is the only way forward as they look to resolve the protracted
negotiations which have held up the Argentinean forward's move to Old
Trafford. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said last week that he
expected the transfer to be completed "in a matter of days" after various
administrative hold-ups were settled – a view echoed by the owner of Media
Sports Investments (MSI), Kia Joorabchian.
Joorabchian continues to claim ownership of the striker, despite the
Hammers' claims that they have "torn up" the agreement with the businessman
that allows him to retain ownership of the player's rights. And because of
what Old Trafford chief executive David Gill has called the
"overcomplicated" nature of the deal, Fifa have now been asked to step in.
"There have been a lot of discussions with the Premier League, West Ham and
[Manchester United's lawyer] Maurice Watkins over the last few days," Gill
said at a press conference in Seoul today. "Now the player and West Ham will
take the case to the Fifa dispute resolution chamber. We're very confident,
as is the player, that the situation will be resolved in favour of Tevez so
that he will then be free to achieve his, and our, wish to join United."
West Ham today blocked the Red Devils' attempts to perform a medical on
Tevez in preparation for a move, saying the player was still under contract
to them and that no deal between the clubs has been agreed. But Old Trafford
bosses claim to have concluded negotiations with Tevez's representatives at
MSI over personal terms for the move to go ahead. A decision is expected
soon, according to Gill, who added he was "very confident" of having the
matter resolved before the season curtain-raiser – the Community Shield – at
Wembley Stadium on August 5th.

AC Milan join Tevez chase - Sportigo
Wed, Jul 18, 07 11:54Mark Apostolou

Man United's troubled signing of Carlos Tevez seems to be heading for even
more instability; now AC Milan want him! (Gazzetta dello Sport) Apparently
the Argentine ace is already set for a medical in Manchester (could already
be happening), but with West Ham seemingly not too keen on the fact that a
player they own is somehow being sold without their agreement.

Now Champions League winners Milan are butting their noses in. This could
and will probably run and run and any decision is bound to upset one party
or another, be it the Hammers, Kia Joorabchian or Man United. Personally I
hope that at the end of this whole saga and that Kia crawls back under the
stone from whence he came. He is symptomatic of all that is bad with the
game, he and his ilk, be they agents or representatives, are sucking the
game dry with their 10% cuts and phoney transfer dealings and the sooner
they are booted out of the game, the better. Tevez to know which shirt to
wear by the end of August - NAY.
