West Ham United 2-1 Liverpool (AET)
WHUFC.com

Angelo Ogbonna scored a dramatic late winner in the final seconds of
extra-time to send West Ham United through to the Emirates FA Cup Fifth
Round and make it a hat-trick of wins over Liverpool this season. The game
was heading for a penalty shoot-out after Philippe Coutinho's free-kick had
cancelled out a superb volley from Michail Antonio on the stroke of
half-time. But with just seconds left on the clock Dimiti Payet deliverted
the perfect free-kick from the right hand side into the penalty area and
Ogbonna rose the highest inside the area to direct a powerful header past
Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet into the corner of the net. The goal sparked
wild celebrations around the Boleyn Ground and ensured the Hammers
progressed to the next stage of the competition where they will now face
Blackburn at Ewood Park on Sunday February 21. The opening exchanges were
dominated by the midfield but it was the home side who came the closest to
breaking the deadlock on 16 minutes. Payet played the perfect through ball
to Joey O'Brien who saw his right-foot shot deflect off Lucas and the ball
struck the post. Liverpool also had chances to open the scoring and came
close on 29 minutes when the ball fell to Joao Carlos Teixeira who was
unmarked inside the box, but he drilled his shot wide of the post. The
Merseyside club came even closer on 34 minutes after Winston Reid gave the
ball away and Benteke played the ball back for Coutinho who saw his shot
come back off the post. From the resulting corner the ball fell to Benteke
at the far post and he saw his header kept out by Randolph. The Hammers were
denied by the woodwork once again on 38 minutes. Payet curled a superb
free-kick over the wall from the edge of the box which Mignolet just got a
touch on and pushed the ball onto the post. The rebound fell to Kouyate who
saw his header kept out by the Liverpool keeper diving away to his left. The
home side were finally rewarded when they opened the scoring on the stroke
of half-time. Payet released Valencia into the box who played the perfect
ball into Antonio and he made no mistake firing a spectacular volley past
Mignolet into the roof of the net.

The lead was short-lived as Liverpool quickly drew level three minutes into
the second half. Benteke was brought down on the edge of the box and
Coutinho struck the free-kick low past the wall and his shot trickled past
Randolph into the back of the net. The home side suffered a major blow on 64
minutes when Winston Reid was forced to leave the field with a hamstring
injury and was replaced by James Collins. West Ham then had strong claims
for a penalty turned down on 65 minutes after Valencia appeared to be
brought down inside the area by Tiago Llori but referee Roger East ignored
the strong pleas from the West Ham players and supporters and waved for play
to continue. The Hammers suffered more injury problems late in the game when
both Kouyate and Joey O'Brien were forced to leave the field. And it was
Liverpool who could have scored a late winner when Benteke's free-kick was
superbly kept out by Randolph diving away to his right hand side. The game
went into extra-time and after Mignolet made a fine save to deny Noble's
curling shot from the edge of the box, Benteke had two golden chances to put
the away side into the lead. The former Aston Villa striker first struck the
ball inches past the post and then he was clean through on goal but his low
drive was superbly kept out by Randolph. Substitute Daniel Sturridge also
came close when he made space on the edge of the box and fired his shot
inches over the bar. But it was the Hammers who were left celebrating
another famous victory over Liverpool this season when Payet's free-kick
fell perfectly for Ogbonna inside the box and he made no mistake directing a
powerful header past Mignolet into the corner of the net. The Hammers will
now head to Ewood Park in the next round full of confidence and if they
manage to get through that tie, will be just ninety minutes away from
playing at Wembley in the semi-finals.

Boleyn Ground and Bilic was left to celebrate one of his finest moments
since he joined the Club. Bilic said: "It was a brilliant game and I was

and we have a last minute winner. All the scenarios were from a good movie
director – Tarantino. "I am proud of the boys and they left their hearts on
the pitch. They did everything, we had injuries and had players who were not
playing in their positions like Antonio but they still did a brilliant job.
"They were fighting and playing football. We were defending, attacking and
as a manager that is all you can ask from your players. "Every point is
important in the Premier League and there are no games that are more
important than the other games but this was a special one. To beat Liverpool
like that who came with a strong side. "They had more than enough quality in
their side and some fresh legs because they didn't play at the weekend so it
was a good combination for them. To cope with them over 120 minutes was
brilliant. "We had a great goal to put us 1-0 in front and I felt we
deserved to lead at half-time. We hit the post twice and I think we
deserved. "It was an unlucky goal to concede but to come back after that and
press them, defend and attack as a unit, I can talk for hours about this
game! We deserved it and I am very proud of the players."

FA CUP - FOURTH ROUND - REPLAY
By Jonathan Jurejko
BBC Sport

Angelo Ogbonna's extra-time header put West Ham into the last 16 of the FA
Cup with a dramatic fourth-round replay win against Liverpool. The Hammers
led before half-time when Michail Antonio guided in Enner Valencia's cross
at the far post. Liverpool responded shortly after the restart when Philippe
Coutinho's low free-kick sneaked under the home wall. Both sides hit the
woodwork in an open tie, before Ogbonna met Dimitri Payet's free-kick to
delight the home fans. The Hammers will visit Championship side Blackburn in
the fifth round on Sunday, 21 February.

Magic of the cup?

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has said he would rather win the FA Cup than
finish in the Premier League top four, and he showed his intent by picking a
near full-strength side against an inexperienced Liverpool team. Reds
counterpart Jurgen Klopp, as he had in his previous three FA Cup matches,
rang the changes with only goalkeeper Simon Mignolet surviving from
Saturday's Premier League draw against Sunderland. But any worries - for the
neutral observer, at least - that the hosts would dominate their youthful
opponents proved unfounded. The two sides were evenly matched throughout the
120 minutes as a high-tempo game, containing plenty of goalscoring chances
and drama, provided a sharp contrast to the dour 0-0 draw at Anfield. Either
side could have nicked an extra-time winner, with Christian Benteke missing
three clear-cut opportunities for Liverpool.
And former Juventus defender Ogbonna's first Hammers goal provided the
perfect finale for the hosts in what might be the final FA Cup tie at the
Boleyn Ground before their move to the Olympic Stadium.

Hammers up for the cup?

West Ham are three-time winners of the FA Cup, but have not lifted the
trophy since Trevor Brooking's famous header gave them victory in the 1980
final. But with Bilic keen to focus on the competition, could he lead the
east London club to silverware in his first season as Hammers boss?
The Croat will not publicly admit it, but he must realise his team have a
great chance of reaching the last eight as they face a Blackburn side
winless in eight league matches and in the lower reaches of the
Championship. France international Dimitri Payet will be central to their
ambitions of a possible run to Wembley, with the mercurial midfielder again
instrumental in this victory. The 28-year-old, who the Hammers want to sign
an improved deal, outlined his worth by starting the move that led to
Antonio's goal and supplying the teasing free-kick that Ogbonna converted.

Benteke to blame?

Since his £32m summer arrival from Aston Villa, Benteke has failed to win
over many Liverpool fans, who have questioned the wisdom in spending so much
on a striker who has struggled to fit into the Reds' system. And the Belgian
missed the chance to win over the doubters by firing Liverpool, seven-time
winners of the FA Cup, past the Hammers.
Benteke put four of his nine shots on target (green arrows), seeing two
blocked (yellow) and three missing the home goal (red)
Benteke had nine efforts at goal - three times as many as any other player -
but extended his goalless run to 11 matches in 2016.
Hammers keeper Darren Randolph denied him from close range in both halves of
normal time, but Benteke should have scored when put clean through in extra
time. However, he could only shoot at the legs of the Republic of Ireland
international - a miss which proved costly. "It's not the nicest moment in
his career but he has to work hard," said Klopp. "He wants to score and we
need him to score. We will work on it in the days, weeks and months."

Klopp sees 'lot of good' despite loss
Despite the defeat, there were some positives for Liverpool fans - most
notably Daniel Sturridge returning from a hamstring injury to make his first
appearance since early December Sturridge has spent almost 55% of his time
at Anfield injured, but once again showed how important he could be if he
manages to stay fit. The England international gradually grew into the game
after arriving as a 59th-minute substitute, showing glimpses of neat
footwork and his sharp eye for goal. His best opportunity came early in the
second half of extra time, when he picked the ball up near the halfway line
before driving forward unopposed and fizzing a shot inches over the Hammers
crossbar.

Too early to start thinking of an England recall?

Man of the match - Michail Antonio (West Ham)

West Ham v Liverpool
Antonio impressed at both ends of the pitch. The £7m summer signing scored
his fourth goal in six home games and was also denied on two other
occasions. But he also impressed defensively, making a game-high five
successful tackles when he filled in for the injured Joey O'Brien at
right-back

What's next?

Back to Premier League action. Sixth-placed West Ham go to relegation
battlers Norwich on Saturday, while ninth-placed Liverpool visit bottom side
Aston Villa on Sunday.

Stats you need to know

Liverpool played their 40th game in all competitions in 2015-16, more than

Slaven Bilic says FA Cup win over Liverpool one of West Ham's best
BBC.co.uk

West Ham's extra-time victory over Liverpool was "a classic FA Cup tie" and
one of the club's greatest ever games, said manager Slaven Bilic.
he fourth-round replay was seconds away from a penalty shootout when Angelo
Ogbonna gave West Ham a 2-1 win. "It will go into the history of West Ham's
greatest games," said Bilic. "Against Liverpool, the last season at Upton
Park, night kick-off, a goal in the last minute. "They left their heart on
the pitch."

West Ham had never beaten Liverpool in the FA Cup and have not won the
trophy for 36 years. They will face Championship side Blackburn in round
five on Sunday, 21 February. Bilic, 47, said earlier this year he would
rather win the cup than finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions
League, saying "the proof is silverware". After Ogbonna's added-time winner,
he said: "I'm a down-to-earth guy, but tonight was a big, big match and I
was a bit emotional at the end of the game, I'll admit it. "The players made
the fans proud of them and we want to progress even further. If we produce a
performance like this then we are capable of beating any team in England."

Bilic also said playmaker Dimitri Payet was committed to the club after
reports linked him with a big-money move to China. Payet is in talks over a
new contract and Bilic said: "I'll say it again. We are a club moving
forward and the most important moves are on the pitch. "We must do
everything we can to keep our best players, and he is our best player. He's
happy here and very soon we will sort out his situation." 'The door was wide
open for us'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp felt his much-changed side should have won
the game after Philippe Coutinho's low free-kick had cancelled out Michail
Antonio's opener. Christian Benteke again missed several good chances for
the Reds as they had 20 attempts on goal - one more than West Ham. "It's
hard. We were the better team, created chances and played good football, but
we didn't use them," said Klopp. "There were lots of decisions that on a
better day I'd say were funny decisions. "It's not easy because we were only
here to win. You don't have to show your best, you just have to go to the
next round. "The door was wide open for us because we did well but it was
not enough. We have to carry on and fight to the next game."

West Ham Utd 2-1 Liverpool (aet, 1-1 after 90 mins)
KUMB.com

By: Staff Writer

Ten years ago this May, Alan Pardew's West Ham had the FA Cup snatched out
of their hands when Steven Gerrard scored a last-gasp equaliser in
circumstances that have never sat well with United fans.

So how ironic it was that in the first meeting between the two teams in the
competition since, Angelo Ogbonna was to score the winning goal with
virtually the last kick of the game to send Liverpool tumbling out of the
Cup.

Whilst the pain of that 2006 defeat in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium will
never be forgotten, a ghost was finally laid to rest at the Boleyn tonight
in this fourth round replay as Slaven Bilic's class of 2016 triumphed in an
epic tie that, if it was to be the last ever at this famous old stadium, was
befitting of its status.

Prior to this evening, West Ham had never beaten Liverpool in the FA Cup -
but this is a season unlike any other where that particular football rivalry
is concerned. Following the historic 3-0 Premier League win at Anfield last
September - West Ham's first there since 1963 - the Irons beat Liverpool 2-0
in the return fixture to record their first double over the Merseysiders
since that same year.

And having gained a psychological advantage by bringing the tie back to the
Boleyn having seen out a goalless draw at Anfield in the first meeting,
Bilic's side secured a healthy slice of revenge for that 2006 Final defeat
in a finish just as dramatic as that at Cardiff a decade ago.

tonight's win #WHULIV #WHUFC #COYIhttps://t.co/aVMPv2uV34

— West Ham United FC (@whufc_official) February 10, 2016

The 2006 Final ended with a penalty shoot-out, which is exactly where this
one appeared to be heading too. West Ham, who started with a strong team -
and ended with one battered, bruised and depleted - took the lead on the
cusp of half time when Enner Valencia's deflected cross was brilliantly
converted by Michail Antonio at the far post.

Liverpool soon struck back however through Philippe Coutinho, just three
minutes after the interval. The Brazilian, signed for £8.5million three
years ago forced West Ham's wall to commit possibly the gravest error by
jumping in the air in anticipation of a lofted strike - whilst Coutinho
passed the ball underneath them and into an empty net.

Either side could have won the game prior to extra time. The visitors, who
introduced Daniel Sturridge - a £12million signing from Chelsea in 2013 - to
partner £32million man Christian Benteke on the hour mark had already found
the woodwork in the first half, whilst West Ham did so twice - firstly
through third-choice right back Joey O'Brien (a free transfer) whose
deflected effort beat Simon Mignolet (cost, £9million) but not the woodwork
and later when Dimitri Payet hit the post with a curling free kick.

victory any better https://t.co/u16jywf7Iq pic.twitter.com/LjhRU5U6Jo

— West Ham United FC (@whufc_official) February 10, 2016

By the time the two teams began the additional 30 minutes West Ham had
already lost Winston Reid (calf), Cheik Kouyate (head injury) and Joey
O'Brien (unknown) to injury. Having already utilised his full quota of
substitutes Bilic watched nervously as Andy Carroll, James Collins and Enner
Valencia all required treatment as extra time wore on.

Liverpool, perhaps sensing their first win against West Ham in their fourth
attempt this season grabbed the initiative as the minutes ebbed away and
Bilic for one was particularly keen to retain possession, urging his players
from the touchline to slow down and presumably retain a little more ball
with view to chancing their luck in a shoot-out.

But his players had other ideas and despite having ran themselves into the
ground for nigh on 130 minutes, they pushed forward one last time. A free
kick - surprisingly awarded by referee Roger East, who had a poor night -
given away needlessly to the right of Liverpool's penalty area by the
visitors was tailor-made for Dimitri Payet, the subject of much speculation
this week.

pic.twitter.com/Onic6LTtpH

— Angelo Ogbonna (@OgbonnaOfficial) February 10, 2016

The crowd hushed as the mercurial midfielder stepped up to deliver an
outswinging ball into a packed penalty box. Bodies rose in unison in and
around Liverpool's six yard area - but only one made contact.

Angelo Ogbonna, who had never scored for the Hammers rose above the pack and
planted a firm header back across a despairing Mignolet. The 'keeper turned
to his left to see the ball nestle in the far corner of his net. The Boleyn
Ground erupted and that familiar roar broke out across the east London night
sky, as it has done so many times before, but won't for much longer.

West Ham face Championship strugglers Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park in the
fifth round of the FA Cup on February 21.

Noble: 'Angelo saved us agonies'
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on February 9, 2016 in News, Whispers

Angelo Ogbonna scored his first goal for the Hammers to become the
unlikeliest hero and it was Dimi Payet who put it onto his head form a last
second free kick.

And that's exactly why the Hammers will sort out Payet's new deal because
although he was again quiet for the 120 minutes by his standards he can
change a game at a stroke as he did tonight and save us all the agony of
penalties.

And afterwards it was Ogbonna who struggled through the language barrier to
say: " I am very happy -it was unbelievable. I did it for my team. I am so
happy."

Skipper Mark Noble declared: "This is the FA Cup and make no mistake that
was a very good Liverpool team but then Angelo pops up with a great header
to settle it at the very end. It was a wonderful ball in from Dimi.

"We come out here with these fans and we believe we can beat anybody. We are
so happy. You couldn't write that. Tonight we beat a very good team and
thankfully Angelo save us the agonies of those penalties."

A free
kick - surprisingly awarded by referee Roger East, who had a poor night -
given away needlessly to the right of Liverpool's penalty area by the
visitors was tailor-made for Dimitri Payet, the subject of much speculation
this week.
