Onariase eyes win in final game
WHUFC.com

West Ham United defender Manny Onariase is relishing the opportunity to complete the double over Leicester City as the Development Squad look to finish a disappointing season on a high. Earlier in the year, the young Hammers beat the Foxes 1-0 at Rush Green thanks to a late goal from Djair Parfitt-Williams. Onaraise, who played a crucial role in the Dev Squad's magnificent 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Friday 15 May said his side must rise to the challenge of playing two games in four days. "It would be nice to finish our season off with a win at Leicester. Steve Potts was saying as a first team player, you need to be ready to play two games in a week. Playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday. So playing two games in four days is a challenge, but one we're looking forward to."

The Dev Squad's recovery will no doubt be aided by the fantastic win over the Blues. In a highly entertaining game, the Hammers recorded a deserved victory thanks to a superb strike from Josh Cullen in the 90th minute. In a superb team performance, the Hammers' first away win all season ended Chelsea's chances of lifting the Barclays U21 Premier League title. Speaking ahead of Monday's game with the Foxes, the eighteen-year-old defender described his emotions: "We were delighted to win at Stamford Bridge. We worked very hard as a team, we worked hard for each other and showed great desire. We deserved to win. "It was amazing to play at Stamford Bridge, there was a good atmosphere and a great experience. "It's definitely our best performance of the season. Chelsea are a good side. They played more direct then I thought they would but I though we dealt with it well."

A further positive for the Dev Squad, particularly for the defence, was securing their third clean sheet. Despite Chelsea's goalscoring prowess, the Hammers worked tirelessly to limit the hosts to only a handful of chances. Onariase, the commanding defender, praised his teammates, particularly his central defensive partner Josh Pask: "I've got a great partnership with Josh Pask. We get on very well with each other, on and off the pitch. We cover each other well, it's a great partnership. "I'm more than pleased with the clean sheet, that's my main job as a defender and we managed to do that today. "Toward the end of the game we had a corner and Josh was going up for it but I said to him 'It's not our job to score, if we don't score, let's not lose the game.' Thankfully we did right at the end."

Another positive omen for the Hammers ahead of Monday's trip to the King Power is the fact that three of their five wins have come in Premier League stadiums, a factor that Onariase believes will help them. "Yeah I think we do play better when we're in stadiums, I reckon the boys are more up for it, everyone is up for it. "I'm delighted with the last few months. Signing my contract and being on the first team bench. Hopefully I'll continue to go up from here. I know I need to keep my head down and keep working hard. It's a big season for me coming up next year. I just need to keep my foot on the pedal and keep going. "In some ways I've exceeded where I thought I might be but I'm on the right track. There's a future path and a bigger picture I'm aiming for."

Carlton Cole has posted a farewell message to supporters after making what was almost certainly his last ever appearance at the Boleyn Ground in a West Ham shirt. The 31-year-old striker, out of contract at the end of the season left the field to a huge chorus of applause from the Boleyn faithful yesterday when he was substituted in the 70th minute of yesterday's home defeat against Everton. And a matter of hours later he took to Twitter to thank Hammers fans for their support during a long and eventful career (in modern terms, at least) at West Ham United. "Thanks for all the lovely messages," he wrote. "West Ham have & always b a major part of me. Wherever my future may lie West Ham will b right there with me. "I am so glad to have grown from a boy to a man at this club & I have enjoyed every minute of it. I've learnt so much about life here. I've had ups & downs, highs & lows on & off the pitch, trust me it's not been as rosy as you may think it would be for a prem footballer. "It has been an emotional roller coaster, but one thing is for sure, your support has been invaluable to me and the team. Respect to you for always sticking by us even when it seems hard to do that. "Wherever my future may lie I will not forget the experience I gained by being a part of the West Ham family. Thanks for everything. COYI."

Cole was signed by Alan Pardew in the summer of 2006 for a fee in the region of £2million and marked his debut with a goal after just 24 seconds against Charlton Athletic. He has made 292 appearances for the club thus far, scoring 68 goals - one more appearance than 1980s Cup hero Geoff Pike and 12 more than Tony Cottee, who like Cole enjoyed two spells at the club. Cole also represented England on seven occasions between 2009 and 2010 - all from the substitutes bench (a national record).

The Tombides family will no longer be represented at West Ham after Taylor Tombides declared he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. The 19-year-old winger revealed this morning that he will be looking for a new club come next month after he was released by the Hammers. And in an emotional statement, he thanked the club for the support it had given his family during the period in which his elder brother Dylan, a fellow Academy member, passed away. "I'm sad to say I will be leaving West Ham United at the end of the season," he wrote. "It's been a pleasure to play for the Hammers. "I can't thank everyone at the club enough for giving me the chance to play at such a great club and can't thank the staff and the fans enough for the support you have given me and my family while going through the loss of my brother. "It's been a great pleasure to play for the claret and blues. #whufc #hammers #dt38"

Earlier this year Tombides - who has been representing Hull City's Academy in recent weeks as he seeks to earn a contract - launched the DT38 Foundation in memory of his brother. The organisation campaigns to raise awareness and provide support for those suffering from testicular cancer, the disease which cost his brother his life in 2014.

Everton fans accused of attack on innocent bystanders

A group of Everton supporters have been hailed as "absolute scum" after launching a disgraceful attack on members of the general public.

The group are being sought by Police after first launching an attack on the Millers pub in Caledonian Road, N1 before moving on to Kings Cross where they carries out their attack on supporters of Newcastle and Hull, both of whom were in the capital to watch their respective teams this afternoon.

The landlord of the Millers told a tabloid newspaper: "They just steamed in and had bottles and glasses in their hands. There were a couple of children out there but that did not seem to stop them.

"They weren't even targeting other football fans, but innocent people just passing by or standing outside drinking. These hooligans attacked anyone. They were kicking them and punching them. It was a thoroughly nasty and shocking attack."

However there was even worse to come later in the day when the Everton fans attacked supporters waiting to return home via King's Cross station.

Three people have so far been arrested as a result of the fracas. Anyone with any further information is urged to contact the Metropolitan Police. There is no evidence of Everton supporters causing trouble in or around the Boleyn Ground yesterday.

Rafa Benitez is West Ham's No 1 choice to replace Sam Allardyce, says Martin Samuel on Sunday Supplement
Last Updated: 17/05/15 3:06pm

Jason Burt says his understanding is that Sam Allardyce will not be at West Ham next season but accepts it is a big decision for the club
Rafa Benitez is the man West Ham want to replace Sam Allardyce, journalist Martin Samuel told the Sunday Supplement. Despite a fruitful season in the Premier League this term, Allardyce's position has been the subject of intense speculation in recent months. Benitez's contract at Napoli expires at the end of this season and despite the fact the club's president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants him to stay on, the Spaniard is tipped to leave. Spanish newspaper AS reported on Sunday morning that Benitez had three offers from the Premier League - including West Ham, whom Jason Burt of the Telegraph believes are "80 to 90 per cent" likely to let Allardyce go this summer. "I think Rafa Benitez is No 1 - in a field of one," Samuel said. "At some stage a club has to start looking up rather than down. Once you're moving into a 50,000-seater stadium, you are at that stage. You have got to start looking upwards. Sam has done a good job there but he's still associated with keeping teams up. At this point in their development, West Ham have got to aim higher. "That's the problem with Newcastle, if all you're ever interested in is staying up then eventually you will go down. A lack of ambition can crush a club. Rafa Benitez have won a Champions League, he's won the Europa League and has been very successful at almost all the clubs he's managed. "He will be perceived by the West Ham fans as someone who can take them into this new era. Rafa Benitez is not a guy you get if you're looking to finish mid-table. He's a guy you get in if you've got your eyes on something bigger and that's where West Ham have to be."

Stewart Downing thinks West Ham could be in the top six if they had not dropped late points
Last Updated: 17/05/15 2:13pm

Stewart Downing says the concession of late goals has been a major problem for West Ham this season. And Downing thinks the club could have been in contention for a top six berth, were it not for the late lapses. The England international put the Hammers in front against Everton on Saturday but they ended up losing 2-1, Romelu Lukaku scoring his sixth goal in six games against the London club to win it in stoppage time. It was the fifth time since February the Hammers have conceded in the final five minutes to drop points, Manchester United, Tottenham and Stoke having snatched late draws while Leicester, like Everton, bagged a winner in the closing stages. And Downing told the West Ham website: "Maybe we've been getting a bit nervy in the last few minutes of games. "When you've been conceding late it could be on people's minds, but you've got to block that out. "In the first half of the season we were ruthless, but conceding late in games has cost us. "With the points we've dropped, we could have been in the top six. "If we eradicate those mistakes, individually and as a team, and with the addition of a few more quality players, we can be a European place team. We're not far away." West Ham could still be in Europe next season, but that depends on the fair play standings after next Sunday's match at Newcastle Downing thought West Ham's overall performance at Upton Park on Saturday was reasonable. "I think we had a generally good game," he said. "We created a few chances, took the lead deservedly, and then they've equalised against the run of play. "The goals we've conceded are disappointing. As a team we didn't defend them properly and we wanted to finish here on a winning note, so that is disappointing."

Manchester United's Javier Hernandez a transfer target for Tottenham, West Ham and Everton after rejecting MLS move
22:30, 16 MAY 2015
BY STEVE BATES
Real Madrid aren't looking to make the Mexican striker's loan spell permanent so he hopes to either stay in Spain or find a new club in England or Germany
The Mirror

Javier Hernandez is a target for Tottenham - after turning down the chance to join MLS side Orlando City, writes Steve Bates in the Sunday People. The Manchester United striker, currently on loan at Real Madrid, is due to return to Old Trafford at the end of the season with the Spanish giants preferring not to trigger an option to make the move permanent. Hernandez, who has a year left on his deal at United, was wanted by Orlando to team up with Brazilian star Kaka. But the United star feels it's too early for life in the MLS and wants to stay in Spain, the Premier League or play in the Bundesliga. West Ham, Everton and La Liga side Valencia have all been linked with a summer move for Hernandez, who is 27 next month.

Planning permission has been submitted to slightly increase the capacity of the Olympic Stadium in football mode. Originally the London 2012 converted stadium was planned to seat 54,000 but a new application has asked that now be increased to 54,683. The same application reveals that the stadium will have a capacity of 54,240 in Athletics mode.

The Stadium will retain 60,000 seats but many of these will be cordoned off in football mode to ensure good sight lines to enable the venue to comply with UEFA Category 4 guidelines.

End this Allardyce misery NOW Daves
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on May 17, 2015 in Whispers
Claret & Hugh

Nearly 24 hours on there remains gloom and uncertainty throughout the Irons fan base which quite frankly has taken enough and then some!

Here at ClaretandHugh we are great fans of our owners and make no apology to anybody for that but it has to be said: "They have got it wrong over the Sam Allardyce issue."

Words such as "heartbreaking" don't come easily off this keyboard but having read many remarks across our various forums and social media outlets, it really is the only one we can find this afternoon.

Yes, there has been a war going on between the pro and anti Sam lobbies for far too long but it's gone much deeper of late with some claiming they have, or are close to, falling out of love with the club

Here are just three comments:

I feel your pain. If he stays I won't return. He (Sam Allardyce) has killed it for me too.

O I'm sick of it. Just read some guy on another site digging out the fans for not staying to applaud the players on their lap of honour because the players deserved better treatment.I felt like going mad & commenting but gave it a swerve.

O My 15 year old is wondering why he bothers watching the games! It's got to change or we will lose fans! We don't want to become a club where we just look out for the results and cba anymore. I hope the Daves saw the lack of folk cheering on "our heroes" at the end – which was something of pride in the past. Not any more. Get out BFS we don't want you or your nonsense anymore.

Others have spoken of a lack of interest and love in the club which was once at the centre of their lives as a result of the manager's tactics and attitudes over the past two years.

Once upon a time the last day of the season was an event …getting on the pitch and celebrating was one of the most looked-forward to events of the season but not yesterday – nobody could get away fast enough.

Wander around the Black Lion yesterday post-match and former pro- Allardyce and long time opponents were becoming increasingly united in the view that the managerial issue had ripped the heart out us.

The great good humour for which we have always been noted has been absent for months. Being a Hammer is no fun anymore and it's down to Sam Allardyce. He has indeed ripped the heart out of us.

The Davids can end this. They can reunite us now – we can start laughing again if only the magical words were to escape their lips: "Sam Allardyce will no longer be manager of this club next season."

Just say it Davids…just say it and let's play our last game of the season at an entirely fitting venue – the place from which Allardyce was sacked just over seven years ago.

It would be a sweet IRON…ry.

My choice of photo is entirely deliberate. It's how I will always remember what this man thinks of West Ham United's mighty fans.

OS Naming rights delayed

Claret & Hugh

Rebranding of the Olympic Stadium has been delayed, it is believed a naming rights partner for is now not expected to take effect until 2016 when West Ham move into the Stadium.

The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) were expected to announce the winner of an auction the naming rights by the end of last year, but a spokesperson has confirmed any deal would not be announced before the Rugby World Cup. It is understood that the stadium would need to be unbranded for the Rugby World Cup, which has its own commercial partners.

Any naming rights partnership would not take effect until 2016, when West Ham United are due to move into the venue a spokesperson confirmed.

Naming rights are being sold LLDC, who stand to take the bulk of the revenue from any deal. West Ham have said they are entitled to a share of the income as part of the football club's 99-year tenancy contract if certain commercial conditions are met.

Napoli target Benitez replacement

Clart & Hugh

According to reports in Italy, Sevilla manager Unai Emery is being targeted to take over as manager of Napoli freeing up Rafa Benitez who has refused to commit his future to the club beyond the end of this season. Emery has guided Sevilla to the Europa League final this season and they are also within touching distances of the Champions League spots in La Liga with two games to play.

He spent a successful time at Valencia, where he finished in third place behind Real Madrid and Barcelona in successive seasons.

The latest news will encourage West Ham as they look for a summer replacement for Sam Allardyce with current Napoli boss Rafa Benitez seen as the front runner. Benitez has been linked with a number of vacant summer jobs including Newcastle and Sevilla in addition to the Hammers. Liverpool fans chartered a plane to reveal a banner saying 'Rodgers Out Rafa in' at the beginning of May.

However Sky Italia claim Benitez might take a year out of the game after a stressful spell at Napoli and Inter Milan before that.

Carroll settles out of court

Claret & Hugh

West Ham crocked striker Andy Carroll has settled out of court over accusations that he trashed his luxurious former home and failed to pay rent, according to lawyers who were suing him for £200,000.

Landlords Jeff and Dawn Grant claimed Carroll damaged antique furniture and fittings, removed plates and TVs from the house, and left it in such a state that it needed more than £48,000 of repairs and cleaning.

They claimed the player missed £68,000 of rental payments on the £2m mansion in Hall Road East, Blundellsands to the north of Liverpool.

Court papers issued in 2013 on London-based solicitors acting for the player alleged that Carroll took away £75,000 of furniture and expensive stereo and CCTV systems.

Among the areas of the mansion worst affected were said to be the marble-tiled dining room, which leads on to the pool complex and Jacuzzi, and which contained a considerable amount of antique furniture. Items such as a barbecue, garden lounger and an air hockey table were also said to be damaged. Court papers claim chairs needed to be re-upholstered and mirrors replaced, and smashed glass was left in the swimming pool area.

Carroll denied owing the Grants any money and claimed he placed a number of items in storage in a bid to protect the £15,000 deposit he paid on moving in to the house.

Allardyce: "I can't say if I want to stay"
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on May 17, 2015 in Whispers
Claret & Hugh

Sam Allardyce has refused to say whether or not he wants to stay at Upton Park next season.

Asked directly on Sky Sports whether he would be at the club or not next season – or if he wanted to be – he said: "Who knows?

"I can't say whether I want to stay until we have talks with the owners which have been in abeyance since the start of the season."

The manager believes however, that the season will have been a big learning curve for playersin their first season playing at this level.

He said: "They have learned it can be a cruel league and that concentration is key but he felt the referee Kevin Friend refused to give a valid penalty and that had a very big effect on the game.

He said: "It was a poor decision and the thing was it was blatant. We should have been more resilient but we went galavanting forward looking for the second, left gaps at the back and paid the price."
