West Ham are set to sign Julien Faubert after agreeing a fee with Bordeaux.
The 23-year-old, who scored on his only international appearance for France
in 2006, can play in midfield or defence and is in London for his medical.
"We've reached agreement with West Ham and his move is going well,"
confirmed Bordeaux chairman Jean-Louis Triaud.
Faubert has been with Bordeaux since 2004 but after the French club rejected
a reported £4m offer from Rangers he refused to train with his team-mates.
His agent Philippe Sol confirmed the Hammers had offered "substantially
more" than the Ibrox outfit and told the Sunday Herald: "He was given an
ultimatum by Bordeaux: West Ham or nowhere.

West Ham United are understood to be on the verge of signing French
international winger Julien Faubert.
According to the player's agent, United are set to fork out £6m to secure
the services of the 23-year-old Bordeaux winger.
Earlier in the week it looked as if the pacy Faubert - who is nicknamed 'Le
TGV' after the French express train due - would be on his way to the SPL
with Rangers, who had apparently agreed personal terms with the player -
despite Bordeaux having rejected the Gers' opening £4m bid.
Faubert is then reported to have gone on strike for three days after
Bordeaux rejected Rangers' offer, after which he was told he would be frozen
out of the French national team should he continue to refuse to play.
Faubert's agent, Philippe Sol, claims that at this stage a deal was struck
with the Hammers.
"Julien was summoned to a meeting with the Bordeaux president on Friday
night and told about West Ham's offer," he said. "It was substantially more
than any cash on the table from Rangers and Julien was given an ultimatum by
Bordeaux - West Ham or nowhere.
"They were no longer interested in talking with Rangers and after everything
that went on with Julien last week there really wasn't much way back for
him.
"He wanted to go to Rangers and had given them his word. Everything he did
last week was about moving to Rangers, and he wasn't looking to line up a
move anywhere else.
"But there is nothing he could do about the transfer fee and you can
understand why Bordeaux wanted to accept the offer from West Ham.
"I'm sure Julien will now be relieved he can get on with his career and will
do everything to try and make a successful impact on English football."
Gilles Rousset, a former Rangers player and now goalkeeping coach at Lyon
added that he was 'surprised' that Faubert was being allowed to leave
Bordeaux so cheaply.
"He is a key player for them," said Rousset. "The prices being talked about
here [in France] have been between £7m-£9m.
"He might be an unknown name in the UK right now but take it from me, he is
very highly rated in France."
Faubert's arrival would almost certainly signal the end of United's interest
in Chelsea's Shaun Wright-Phillips, who is also said to be interesting
Tottenham and Manchester City.

Tevez admits Real appeal - Sky Sports

Carlos Tevez has conceded that he would like to play for Real Madrid, but as
yet, the Spanish champions have not made an offer for his services.
The 23-year-old Argentine is currently on international duty in Venezuela at
the Copa America, with his advisor Kia Joorabchian having previously stated
that no decisions would be made until the close of the tournament.
However, that has not stopped Tevez from speaking to the press and, he has
now confirmed that a move to the Spanish capital is an appetising option,
which somewhat contradicts Joorabchian's claim that his heart is set on
staying in England.
"I would like to play at Real Madrid, but there is no offer from Real
Madrid. I have yet to hear anything from Real," he told Radio Punta.
It has previously been speculated that the diminutive forward was keen to
move to Internazionale but on Friday, this was disputed by Joorabchian and,
on this occasion, it would appear his claim can be vindicated by Tevez.
"I do not prefer to go to Inter Milan," he concluded. "That is a lie.
"It has not come out of my mouth. It is not true, because I have not signed
anything with Inter or with anybody. I am awaiting offers and I will see
which is the best for me.
"I don`t know what will happen next season."

West Ham are set to beat Rangers to the signing of Bordeaux's Julien Faubert
after outbidding the Scottish side.
Rangers have been chasing the French international all summer and have
already seen one bid rejected by Bordeaux.
Faubert had expressed an interest in joining Rangers and went on strike last
week in a bid to force Bordeaux to do business with the Scottish giants.
Bordeaux chairman Jean-Louis Triaud warned Rangers earlier this week that
they had received a better bid from another club for the 23-year-old.
Faubert's agent Philippe Sol has revealed that West Ham are the club to have

Motta eyes England move - Sky Sports

Thiago Motta is chasing a move to the Premier League after being told he can
leave Barcelona.
The midfielder is being pushed out of Camp Nou following the midweek
acquisition of Yaya Toure from Monaco.
He is hoping to persuade Barca to allow him to move on a free transfer and
he has already been linked with Manchester City, Middlesbrough and West Ham
United.
The Brazilian feels he would suit the English game and is now looking for
Barca to tear up the final 12 months of his contract.
"I've spent my entire career at Barcelona, so if our coach is not interested
in me I expect the gesture of them making it easy for me to move on," Motta
is quoted in the Sunday Mirror.
"If I am a free agent it will be easy to find a new club.
"The Premier League is sensational and has a style that's perfectly suited
to the way I play.
"I've played many games against English opposition and believe I can enjoy
football in England.
"The key at the moment is to sort out my Barca situation."

West Ham have reached an agreement with Bordeaux to sign Julien Faubert.
Faubert's agent Philippe Sol revealed earlier on Sunday that Bordeaux had
already accepted a bid from The Hammers.
And the French club have now confirmed they are ready to sell Faubert once
he passes his medical for West Ham.
"We've reached an agreement with West Ham," Bordeaux chairman Jean-Louis
Triaud told reporters.
"Faubert is in London to have a medical which means his move is going well."
Rangers had looked firm favourites to sign Faubert even though Bordeaux
recently rejected an offer from the Glasgow club.
Faubert was keen to join Rangers and refused to train with the Bordeaux
squad after they had turned the bid down.
According to the French media, Rangers had offered ?6million (£4million).
Faubert, who scored for France on his full international debut last August,
is a defensive midfielder who can also play at full-back.

The Tevez Effect : Or How Joorabchian is still dicking us about - WHO

A lot has been written about us and Carlitos in the last few months, most of
it sensational and mostly untrue, as journalists seem prepared to run with
any old guff to fill column inches.
This whole arbitration affair, which Kevin McCabe has rather cleverly
muddied by keeping the press focused on what he wants the issue to be,
rather than the actual purpose of the arbitration panel, has provided the
lazier elements of the press with enough beer and skittles to last them all
summer until the actual season starts, without any discernible effort on
their part.
In the mean time though, Joorabchian is seemingly touting Carlitos around to
any that will listen, despite the fact that Eggert Magnusson insists that we
have him until 2010 at least. And all the while journalists are writing
articles purporting to carry quotes from Tevez himself about where he will
or won't be playing football next season, all of which is more than a tad
frustrating.
But if we hold Tevez registration and if he is going to be a Hammer until
2010, what is the purpose of Joorabchian talking up all these stories about
moves and linking Carlitos with every major club in Europe? Is it because
he's still angry at not getting West Ham? I don't doubt that he feels
aggrieved to have missed out on buying a prime shop for his business, for
him to bring and sell on his various players from around the world. But
until situation between us and Tevez is sorted beyond doubt, Joorabchian
will continue to have influence through the press on the future of our club
in so far as the presence of a player of Tevez quality is an obvious
attraction to other prospective players, the presence of doubt does us no
favours.
It is my belief (and obviously I could be entirely wrong) that outcome of
his contractual situation will significantly influence the calibre of player
we will be able to attract this summer. Finally putting this whole Tevez
thing to bed will send out a statement of intent beyond doubt that we are a
club looking to compete at the highest level and that will in turn aid the
management team in attracting higher calibre players. If on the other hand,
despite what our chairman has said, Tevez goes and plays for a Chelsea or an
Arsenal next season, then we will look to all the world to be a middling
premiership club with a lot of cash to splash.
With the window now open hopefully we'll see the arrival of one or two
seriously quality contenders at the club, which will in turn reduce the
effect of Joorabchian's apparent press campaign. But until we actually make
those first signings I fear that paper talk about Carlitos' future will
continue and us fans will have to continue living on our nerves.
You'd think we'd be used to it by now.

Defoe Bid Lodged With Spurs Today - West Ham Till I Die

This is only single-sourced, but it is from the same person who told me
Calum Davenport was about to sign for us in January, so I passi ton for what
it is worth. It seems Eggert Magnusson has lodged a sizeable bid with Spurs
to ecure Jermain Defoe's services. He knows Defoe is nervous about returning
to West Ham because of the likely reaction from a section of the fans, but
Magnusson is hoping it will be clear to him that he will be fourth in the
running for a first team place at Spurs now they have signed Darren Bent.
I remain of the view that Defoe is a class player who would be a brilliant
acquisition for us. He scored plenty of goals for Spurs last season despite
not being in the team some of the time. He would provide a good contrast to
Dean Ashton and ought to play well off him. I hope this rumour has some
truth to it.

Big guns ready for Tevez tussle - TeamTalk
Arsenal are reportedly preparing to battle it out with Manchester United for
the loan signing of West Ham striker Carlos Tevez.
The News of the World claims Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has identified Tevez
as the ideal replacement for Thierry Henry following the Frenchman's move to
Barcelona.
However, it is thought Arsenal cannot afford the £28million asking price for
a permanent deal and are instead preparing a £9million package to fund his
wages and registration rights on a season-long loan.
United boss Alex Ferguson is also thought to be in the hunt for the
Argentine and may also favour a loan deal because of uncertainty over the
player's ownership.
Tevez seems certain to leave Upton Park this summer after helping to rescue
the Hammers from relegation and sources claim it is between United and
Arsenal for his services if he chooses to stay in England.
Inter Milan and Real Madrid are also interested, but it is thought Tevez may
prefer to stay in England after his representative Kia Joorabchian was last
week quoted as saying: "Carlos' heart is really in the Premier League".

HAMMERS WAGE IN WITH NEW TEVEZ BID - Sunday Mirror

CARLOS TEVEZ has been told by West Ham that they will match any wage offer
to keep him at Upton Park.
The Argentine international turned down a move to Inter Milan last week so
that he could keep open his dialogue with West Ham, while both Manchester
United and Arsenal have indicated that they are keen.
Hammers owner Eggert Magnusson has reinforced his desire to keep Tevez
following his role in keeping West Ham in the Premiership last season by
assuring him that money will not be a problem.

The 23-year-old was at the centre of a dual ownership storm after being
loaned to the Londoners by agent Kia Joorabchian, who is looking to pocket a
fee of £30m from any club looking to sign Tevez. West Ham would be willing
to draw up another loan agreement - but with United and Arsenal lurking that
may not become an option.
Chelsea and Liverpool are also monitoring the situation, but neither are
likely to match the financial package it'll cost to land him.
Both United and Arsenal are in the market for a striker, with Sir Alex
Ferguson ready to raise funds by selling Alan Smith, Louis Saha, Giuseppe
Rossi and Gerard Pique and Arsene Wenger looking to replace Thierry Henry.
In the end, it is likely to come down to Tevez's choice between money and
ambition.
Magnusson wants to turn West Ham into a Premiership force, but United,
Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea can all offer Champions League football.
Tevez has said that he will decide his future after the Copa America.

Friend or (De)foe? - KUMB

As the transfer market approaches fever pitch with clubs seemingly signing
anyone who isn't screwed down (eg Wigan signing Titus Bramble), it is
crucial that teams hang on to their best players whilst raiding other clubs
for their best assets.
We seem to be doing the former successfully (Reo-Coker and Benayoun being
the probable exceptions, but would you really call them our best players
after last season?) and are also looking good on the latter front, with
Craig Bellamy, Juan Riquelme and Darren Bent being but three of the players
being linked with a move to Upton Park in recent weeks.
Of course, the Darren Bent rumour nearly turned from dream to reality, but
the bubbles faded and died at the last second. After a £16million fee was
agreed, the player, for reasons which I prefer not to go into, pulled the
plug on the move and joined Tottenham instead.
Am I distraught? Does my face look distraught? Possibly not. The fee we
would have ended up paying for Bent would have been around £20million after
contract perks and wages and all that kerfuffle. Thanks to Eggy's millions,
the transfer fee would not have been a problem, but is a player who has only
played two seasons in the top flight really worth all that money?
When you glance at Bent's statistics, they look impressive ('but the game's
not played on paper, Clive!' Circa FIFA 2006.) 18 goals in his first
Premiership season - to top being the highest English scorer in the top
flight - almost earned him a place in England's world cup squad. The
following season, despite Charlton's relegation, Bent still managed to amass
12 goals.
He is clearly a class act, a genuine out-and-out striker who can fend for
himself and got many of those goals through stunning individual efforts,
that came off his own bat - goals that made you wonder what he was doing at
the Valley, playing for a team doomed to relegation. Charlton often relied
solely on Bent for goals, usually packing the midfield and leaving him up
front on his own.
Perhaps if they had used him slightly more sparingly or in a different role,
they might have stayed up. Regardless of this, Bent is a wonderful target
man, a player who you can really rely on to pick up loose balls, turn the
defender and get his shot in.
For this reason, I was surprised that Spurs took him on because like us,
they like to pass the ball around, play it to feet, and Bent doesn't seem to
fit this mould. He would have found life at Upton Park difficult as we only
tend to play it long when we're on a losing run and confidence is low! At
West Ham, the long ball is the mark of defeat.
In all the time I have been watching us, I have only ever seen us win 'ugly'
once, in a shocking game played in torrential downpour at home to West Brom
in which Sheringham scored the winner from a long Tomas Repka punt. We, like
generations of creative, skilful teams before us, have not mastered the
technique of playing terribly but still winning. I doubt we ever will. And
that's just the way I like it.
The arrival of Bent at White Hart Lane flung another rumour into the mill -
Jermain Defoe. He struggled to make a regular first-team spot his last
season, falling behind Berbatov, Keane and Mido in the pecking order. Defoe
had made his dissatisfaction clear and handed in a transfer request. Various
northern clubs were reportedly interested, Everton and Newcastle among them.
The striker, however, didn't fancy a move up north, and so the wheel of
fortune landed on us.
Would Defoe return to Upton Park, despite being reviled by sections of the
fans for handing in a transfer request the day after our 2003 relegation? He
soon rubbished this rumour by saying he would never return to Upton Park,
but the move looks increasingly likely now following Bent's arrival, and
Defoe himself has admitted the switch could be possible.
Just think about it. England's future forward line PLUS Carlos Tevez,
starting for us against Manchester City on 11th August. The history is in
the future, my friends...

Teddy Sheringham will not hang up his boots yet, despite the fact that he
turned 41 in April. The player with a past at Tottenham, Manchester United,
West Ham, Portsmouth, Djurgarden, Millwall, Nottingham Forest and Aldershot
is according to The People ready to make a move to Colchester.
Sheringham played 86 league games for West Ham from 2004 to 2007. He is
still a great goalscorer and has a fantastic record during his career that
started back at Millwall 23 years ago.
Stanley Matthews continued to play until he was in his 50's, and former
England goalkeeper Peter Shilton played his last league games at Leyton
Orient at the age of 47.
