Scott Parker is the most high-profile absentee from the West Ham United
squad that travelled to Nottingham for tomorrow lunchtime's Championship
clash. Parker, whose future has been the subject of much discussion in
recent days has remained at home and is unlikely to play for the Hammers
again until the situation is resolved. Despite his omission from Sam
Allardyce's 16-man squad, it is still far from certain that the 30-year-old
midfielder will make the move from east to north London with a deal still
not sealed, despite a series of talks between the two clubs having taken
place. Also missing from a game in which United are hoping to record their
third successive away win - a much needed win given the embarrassing
reversal against League two Aldershot last Wednesday - is new signing
Abdoulaye Faye.
The 33-year-old central defender is still to recover fully from a groin
injury that continues to prevent him from adding to his 23 minutes of game
time this season.
Bar long terms casualties Peter Kurucz and Gary O'Neil, Sam Allardyce
otherwise has a fully fit squad to choose from. However new signing Sam
Baldock, who completed a £2million move from MK Dons on Friday will not
feature as he failed to complete his registration in time for tomorrow's
game.

Spurs want Parker on the cheap

Harry Redknapp is in danger of missing out on signing Scott Parker after his
board refused to meet West Ham United's demands. It was revealed on Thursday
that the two clubs had opened talks over the England international's future.
However Tottenham's valuation of the player was around half the £8million
asking price and it is understood that they have refused to change their
stance. Although the Lillywhites have offered further add-ons and players on
loan, these have been of no interest to the United board who are insisting
on a cash deal for their most precious asset.
Although a story suggesting Parker was ready to hand in a transfer request
in order to push a move through is thought to have been wide of the mark, it
is well documented that the 30-year-old has expressed a strong preference to
join Spurs. Yet in financial terms the most attractive offer has come from
Tony Fernandes' QPR, who are said by the Mirror to have offered to match
Parker's wages at West Ham. Tottenham are said to have offered a
considerably smaller financial package, insisting on Parker taking a pay cut
should he move.
Stoke are also reported by the Mirror to have bid for Parker, although with
the player unlikely to consider a move to anyone but Tottenham, let alone
outside of London, that interest appears to have as much chance of success
as the Potters' move for Carlton Cole earlier in July.

Jordan Spence got another 90 minutes under his belt this afternoon as
Bristol City played out a 1-1 draw with Doncaster. The right-back, at Ashton
Gate on a season-long loan has featured in every game for City, who lie 18th
in the Championship having managed to win just one of their opening five
league games.
Cristian Montano was a second half substitute for Notts County who went down
2-0 at Preston in their League One encounter. The young Hammer, who is
currently scheduled to return to West Ham next weekend, started on the bench
before replacing the veteran Lee Hughes eight minutes into the second half.
County, who slipped to 15th in the table as a result of the defeat also
featured debutant Charlie Allen, son of manager and former Hammer Martin
'Mad Dog' Allen.
Down in League Two, Dagenham & Redbridge missed the chance to go into the
top three after conceding a late equaliser at home to Torquay having led
1-0. 20-year old Olly Lee, currently on a months' loan at Victoria Road
once again played a full 90 minutes for the Daggers - his fourth consecutive
start since moving from West ham.
West Ham's fourth and latest addition to the loanee ranks, Pablo Barrera,
began the week playing in the Carling Cup against League Two Aldershot.
Having secured a season-long loan to Real Zaragoza on Thursday, he has been
named in the squad to face Real Madrid tomorrow in the Spanish season-opener
at the Romareda by boss Javier Aguirre.

Sam Baldock became the fourth most expensive transfer from the third tier of
English football when he joined West Ham from MK Dons yesterday. The
22-year-old striker put pen to paper on a four-year deal (with an option for
a fifth year) last night after successfully undergoing a medical to become
manager Sam Allardyce's seventh signing of a busy summer. Although West Ham
had to pay a premium to land Baldock - the eventual fee being more than
double that accepted by MK Dons when Peterborough placed a £1.2million bid
just eight weeks ago - the striker narrowly failed to to break into the top
three most expensive third-flight exports.
Fabian Delph's eye-opening £8million move from Leeds United to Aston Villa
two years ago this month tops the list by a distance is unlikely to be
beaten for some considerable time. At less than half that figure comes the
next most expensive transfer, the £3.4million Liverpool eventually paid
Charlton for Romford-born Jonjo Shelvey. Completing the top three is Leon
Barnett, whose move from Luton Town to West Bromwich Albion in July 2007
cost the Baggies £3million.
The most expensive third tier footballers of all time
1. Fabian Delph: £6million + £2million add-ons (Leeds to Aston Villa
2009/10)
2. Jonjo Shelvey: £1.7million + £1.7million add-ons (Charlton to Liverpool
2010/11)
3. Leon Barnett: £2.5million + £500,000 add-ons (Luton to West Brom 2007/08)
4. Sam Baldock: £2million + £750,000 add-ons (MK Dons to West Ham Utd
2011/12)
5. Luke Varney: £2million + £500,000 add-ons (Crewe to Charlton 2007/08)
6. Nicky Maynard: £2.25million (Crewe to Bristol City 2008/09)
7. David Cotterill: £2million (Bristol City to Wigan Athletic 2006/07)
8. Simon Cox: £1.5million + £400,000 add-ons (Swindon to West Bromwich
Albion 2009/10)
9. Freddy Eastwood: £1.5million (Southend to Wolves 2007/08)
9. David Healy: £1.5million (Leeds to Fulham 2007/08)
