Cristian Montano is eager to show his worth after signing his second
professional contract

Cristian Montano is aiming to catch the eye of manager Sam Allardyce after
signing a new professional contract with West Ham United. The talented
forward endured a difficult 2010/11 season after signing his first
professional deal a year ago, suffering a succession of niggling injury as
he looked to build on the Doris Bell Award he won at the end of the previous
campaign.
Now he is fully fit and raring to go, the Colombia-born 19-year-old is
hoping to earn a regular place in the first-team squad for 2011/12 by
impressing Allardyce during pre-season. He has made a good start by being
named in the lineup for last night's friendly against BSC Young Boys. "I'm
very proud of this contract and I'm happy with myself as well," he told West
Ham TV. "I have got my second contract which is the most important thing.
"Hopefully I can keep going from here and make the next step, which is to
make my first-team debut and hopefully become established. I want to prove
myself."
Montano is also eager to impress the same supporters he wowed by scoring two
goals during Academy Director Tony Carr's Testimonial match in May 2010. The
teenager travelled to Austria with the first-team squad for their pre-season
tour in July last year, only for injuries to ravage his first campaign as a
professional. "As a second-year scholar, I managed to do really well and win
the Doris Bell Award, which I was really happy with and which, at the time,
was a bit unexpected," he added. "As a first-year pro I just wanted to carry
on from where I'd left off, which I did, but when we got back from the tour
the injuries started kicking-off and it was a bit stop-start for me.
"Obviously I managed to get fit again and here I am. I've got my next
professional contract and I want to carry on from there."
With Demba Ba, Victor Obinna and Robbie Keane having departed the Bolyen
Ground this summer, Montano is preparing to impress Allardyce between now
and the opening npower Championship fixture against Cardiff City on 7
August. "It's not impossible," he said. "I'm going to keep working hard and
hopefully show the new manager that I can play and do well. "We're all in
the same boat - a new manager and new staff - so we've all got to prove
ourselves again, which is not an easy thing to do because we've all got to
start from scratch. "I've come back in good shape and hopefully I can get a
bit stronger, too."

Irons accept Stoke's Cole bid

West Ham have reportedly accepted an offer from Stoke for striker Carlton
Cole, who will now discuss personal terms with the Potters. The England
international slipped out of the Premier League with the Hammers last season
and was expected to be among those heading out of the club this summer. He
is a proven top-flight performer and there was always going to be plenty of
potential suitors willing to offer him a route back to the big time. Stoke
have been linked with an approach for much of the transfer window, with Tony
Pulis known to be in the market for attacking talent. He has now made his
move for Cole, with a formal bid on the table. The finer details of that
offer are acceptable to West Ham and it will now be up to the Potters to
thrash out personal terms with the 27-year-old. Should Cole complete a
switch to Stoke, he could be joined at the Britannia Stadium by Cameron
Jerome. It is believed the Potters are still in talks with the Birmingham
forward and are hopeful of reaching an agreement.

STOKE AGREE FEE FOR CARLTON COLE

Stoke have agreed a fee with West Ham for striker Carlton Cole. The
27-year-old England international is currently in Switzerland with the
Hammers squad for a pre-season training camp but is set to hold talks with
Stoke boss Tony Pulis upon his return. Potters chairman Peter Coates told
Sky Sports News: "We have agreed terms with West Ham, that's done. Now it's
a case of can we agree terms with Carlton?" Cole joined West Ham from
Chelsea in July 2006 and has scored 42 goals in 165 appearances. But he
found the net just five times in the Barclays Premier League last season and
is now poised to move on in the wake of the Hammers' relegation. The fee is
believed to be an initial £4million with a possible £2million add-ons.

QPR have agreed a deal to sign Kieron Dyer. Dyer was available on a free
transfer after an injury ravaged four years at West Ham, in which he made
just 30 league appearances. The 32-year-old, who cost the Hammers £6million
back in 2007, is taking a huge pay-cut to stay in London with the Premier
League new boys and has signed a short-term performance-related deal. Dyer,
who spent last season on loan at Ipswich, has 33 caps for England but hasn't
featured since 2007, when Steve McClaren was in charge.

West Ham hope Eidur Gudjohnsen won't change his mind again

West Ham today stepped up their bid to sign Eidur Gudjohnsen despite
interest in the former Chelsea striker from newly-promoted Premier League
club Swansea. West Ham manager Sam Allardyce, who saw a youthful Hammers'
team lose 2-1 to Swiss League champions BSC Young Boys in Grenchen last
night, is keen to add the 32-year-old to his depleted squad before the start
of the new season. Swansea, who are managed by former Watford boss Brendan
Rodgers, also want to sign the ex-Bolton, Chelsea, Barcelona and Monaco
striker, who is now a free agent. Gudjohnsen almost signed for West Ham on
loan from Monaco in January 2010 but changed his mind on transfer deadline
day and instead moved to Tottenham. The Icelandic star helped Spurs claim a
Champions League place for the first time in their history but manager Harry
Redknapp decided not to offer him a permanent deal to stay at White Hart
Lane. He then went to Stoke but failed to make an impact at the Britannia
Stadium and joined Fulham on loan for the last three months of the season,
making 10 appearances for the west London club.
Carlton Cole's proposed move to Stoke, meanwhile, looked less likely today
after the striker failed to agree personal terms. A fee of £4million plus
another £2m based on appearances had been agreed between the two clubs but
the England frontman, who has also interested Queens Park Rangers, is
unhappy with the deal offered by Stoke.
West Ham's other England stars, Robert Green and Scott Parker, were both
missing from the team that lost in Switzerland last night, amid more
speculation surrounding their futures. Tottenham, Aston Villa and Chelsea,
who are looking for a replacement for midfielder Michael Essien because of
his long-term knee injury problems, have been linked with Parker but a West
Ham spokesmen confirmed today that there had been no offers for the
30-year-old former Charlton player. The Upton Park club also confirmed that
they had received no bids for Green despite reported interest from West Brom
and insisted James Tomkins - who has been linked to Wolves - is not for
sale.
Allardyce, who told the Evening Standard last week that he is hoping to sign
eight new players before the start of the season, looks like missing out on
Blackpool striker DJ Campbell, who has activated a release clause in his
contract and will stay in the Premier League. Former Chelsea youngster Frank
Nouble scored West Ham's goal in their 2-1 defeat by BSC Young Boys - the
team who gave Spurs a scare in last season's Champions League play-off.
Trialists Hernani Da Rosa and Joey O'Brien both featured, as did new signing
Abdoulaye Faye but West Ham's other summer acquisition, former Bolton and
Newcastle star Kevin Nolan, was not included.

More Players to Leave?

West Ham Till I Die
Lots of transfer rumours at the moment. The trouble is they all seem to be
about players leaving the club. There's a distinct lack of rumours about
players arriving. In some ways that might be a good thing if the usual
suspects at the club have decided to keep their gobs shut for once.
Here are a few highlights
* Scott Parker to Chelsea to cover for the injured Michael Essien.
* West Brom in for Rob Green for £4.5 million.
* Wolves want Matthew Upson.
* Swansea & West Ham are competing for Eidur Gudjohnsen
* Bolton and Wolves are interested in James Tomkins
* The porposed move of Carlton Cole to Stoke seems to have gone quiet.
I would be gutted if we sell James Tomkins. He is an England defender of the
future. He, Mark Noble and Jack Collison must be held onto at all costs.
