Ian Hendon's development squad will make the short trip to Stonebridge Road
on Friday
28.07.2011
Ian Hendon's development squad will face a difficult test when they head to
Blue Square Premier side Ebbsfleet United on Friday evening. West Ham
United's young professionals and promising scholars will hope to bounce back
after suffering a 3-0 defeat at Southern League Premier Division side
Weymouth on Saturday.
Prior to that reverse, a West Ham XI had defeated both Blue Square North
outfit Bishop's Stortford and a Gillingham XI. Hendon will have a willing
and able squad at his disposal with England Under-21 forward Zavon Hines the
standout name in a 14-man party which will make the short trip across the
Dartford River Crossing. Hines is joined by England U18 pair Robert Hall and
George Moncur, both of whom joined the first team at their pre-season
training camp in Switzerland earlier this month.
Hall and Moncur, who have spoken exclusively to West Ham TV, are joined by
professionals Olly Lee, Sebastian Lletget, Ahmed Abdulla, Callum McNaughton
and Callum Driver and a host of scholars, including hot-shot forward Elliot
Lee. Ebbsfleet are famously owned by the web-based MyFootballClub venture,
which allows fans with a stake in the club to have an input on team
selection and transfers. The system worked well last season as the club were
promoted via the Blue Square South Play-Offs, beating Farnborough 4-2 in the
final.
Friday's match will kick-off at Stonebridge Road at 7.45pm. Tickets are
priced at £8 Adults, £5 Concessions and £2 five to 12-year-olds.

Pay on the day for Zaragoza
WHUFC.com
The club have arranged a match with the Spanish side to conclude a busy
summer of games
28.07.2011
West Ham United are delighted to offer fixed reduced ticket prices for this
Saturday's annual pre-season showpiece match against Real Zaragoza. Tickets
are on sale now to all with prices starting for season ticket holders at £5
for Under-16s and £10 for adults. For all the information and to make sure
of your preferred seat before the weekend, click here. On the day,
supporters will be able to make use of cash turnstiles as well in all areas
except for the Bobby Moore Stand Lower. With a sunny day expected in east
London and a large walk-up likely, fans are advised to get to the ground in
good time. This weekend's fixture will be the first home outing in a Hammers
shirt for the club's new recruits Matt Taylor and Kevin Nolan, and give
supporters the chance to have a glimpse at Sam Allardyce's new-look side in
action.
England trio Robert Green, Scott Parker and Carlton Cole are also set to
figure, as will Mexico star Pablo Barrera fresh from his summer triumph in
the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The Hammers are in good form, with three successive clean sheets against
Bishop's Stortford, FC Copenhagen and Wycombe Wanderers, while their
penultimate warm-up match saw them earn a fine 1-0 win at Dagenham &
Redbridge on Tuesday. The six-times Spanish Cup winners enjoyed an
encouraging 2010/11 campaign, finishing 13th in just their second season
back in the top flight, and are historically the ninth most successful
Spanish club of all-time. The La Liga side's visit will evoking memories of
West Ham United's dramatic victory over the Aragonese in the 1964/65
European Cup Winners' Cup semi-finals. Taking on a potent Zaragoza attack
nicknamed 'Los Cinquos Magnificos' - 'The Magnificent Five' - West Ham raced
into a two-goal lead in the first leg at the Boleyn Ground through goals
from Brian Dear and Johnny Byrne. Zaragoza hit back, meaning the Hammers had
a slender 2-1 lead to take to Spain. The second leg started badly as
Zaragoza went ahead on the night and ahead in the tie on away goals, only
for Johnny Sissons to score an all-important equaliser and send West Ham
through to the final, 3-2 on aggregate. At Wembley, of course, West Ham
defeated TSV 1860 Munich 2-0 to lift the trophy.

West Ham's £9m Midfield Enforcer Wanted by Aston Villa
Posted on 28 July 2011
Sportsvibe.co.uk
Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish would like to sign West Ham and England
midfielder Scott Parker but has admitted that the club may have to sell
before he can bid for the former Chelsea star. Villa are on the verge of
sealing a £9.5million deal for Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia, but the Scot
has made it clear that he will need to balance the books before he can make
a concrete offer for Parker. "We're watching the wages don't spiral out of
control," McLeish told the Daily Mirror. "People think free transfers don't
cost you, but they may be £50,000-60,000-a-week in wages. "I know [Villa
owner] Randy Lerner wants to keep it tighter and work within our means.
That's normal, especially with 2013 [when UEFA's financial fair play rules
will be implemented] coming up. "A lot of clubs will follow suit. We've got
to try and get the best out of every single player. A manager can't keep
everybody happy, but it's very much a squad game throughout the season
nowadays."
Villa have already sold Stewart Downing to Liverpool for £20m while Ashley
Young joined Manchester United for in a deal believed to be worth £16m but
it appears as though others could be on the way out of Villa Park. Central
defender Carlos Cuellar is wanted by Scottish champions Rangers and Villa
want at least £3m for the Spanish defender while left-back Stephen Warnock
has also been linked with several clubs. Should Villa want to land Parker
then they will need to move quickly as a number of Premiership clubs are
still tracking the hard working midfield star. Chelsea and Tottenham have
both shown an interest in the England midfielder but neither club has made a
concrete offer and Villa could steal a march on their rivals with a £9m
offer.

World Cup hero Bobby Moore's son found dead in flat aged 43
Benedict Moore-Bridger
28 Jul 2011
Evening Standard
The son of England's World Cup winning captain Bobby Moore has been found
dead in his London flat. Paramedics rushed to 43-year-old Dean Moore's
property in Notting Hill after concerned relatives dialled 999, but were
unable to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr Moore, who
ran a pub opposite Chelsea FC's Stamford Bridge ground, described himself
online as a "habitual drinker" and is understood to have had a medical
condition. Police are treating the father-of-one's death as "unexplained".
Sources said foul play was not evident. A post-mortem examination will be
held. His father, who led the national side to glory at Wembley in 1966 and
also captained West Ham United during a glittering football career, lost a
two-year battle against bowel cancer in 1993, aged 51. He fathered Dean and
daughter Roberta with his first wife Tina before divorcing in 1986 to live
with British Airways stewardess Stephanie Moore.
The Moore family were said to be "distraught" at the latest early death to
befall them. Football fans around the country told of their shock and online
tributes were posted to Mr Moore on West Ham fan forums. One friend, calling
himself Di Wolfio, wrote: "You'll never meet anyone more West Ham than
Deano. RIP my son, you will be sorely missed. God Bless. X." He added: "Dean
was one of the nicest fellas you could meet." A friend, calling himself
Stuhwu, wrote: "Two family members that lived to no age at all. Sad times
for the Moore family." One fan wrote: "Had the pleasure of meeting the
lovely Stephanie Moore and family in 2003. She must be beside herself with
grief, poor darling. "He seemed a very nice lad, may he rest well and enjoy
the catch-up with his dad. My deepest sympathy to all of those here that
knew him."
It is understood that there were no signs of wounds when the team of
paramedics discovered the body at lunchtime yesterday. A source close to the
family said: "Dean had a medical condition. It appears to be a tragic death
at an early age from natural causes."

Lotus chief and West Ham fan Fernandes poised to buy QPR for £100m
By SAMI MOKBEL and ALEX KAY
Last updated at 11:34 PM on 28th July 2011
Daily Mail
Air Asia tycoon Tony Fernandes is plotting a £100million move to buy Queens
Park Rangers. Sportsmail understands the multi-millionaire businessman, who
is team principal for Formula One outfit Team Lotus, is growing increasingly
confident of striking a deal to take control of the Barclays Premier League
club. Fernandes, 47, has already been shown around Loftus Road and talked to
manager Neil Warnock about transfer funds as Rangers plan for their return
to the top flight. Co-owner Bernie Ecclestone has said £100m would be enough
to take over the west London club. Ecclestone holds a 62 per cent
shareholding and although business partner Flavio Briatore has an option to
buy the shares if the 80-year-old decides to sell, it is believed the pair
have given Fernandes the go-ahead for the move. The club's other shareholder
Lakshmi Mittal has failed to secure Ecclestone's shares after refusing to
meet the asking price. A QPR statement confirmed 'preliminary discussions'
had taken place over the sale. West Ham fan Fernandes lost out to David Gold
and David Sullivan in his bid to buy the Hammers in January 2010 but claimed
earlier this year that he was still looking to invest in the club.
