Senegal striker Demba Ba has joined West Ham United from German side TSG
1899 Hoffenheim
28.01.2011

West Ham United are delighted to announce the signing of Senegal striker
Demba Ba on a permanent contract until June 2014. The highly-rated
25-year-old joins the Hammers from German Bundesliga side TSG 1899
Hoffenheim, for whom he netted 40 in 103 appearances over the past
three-and-a-half seasons. The transfer fee and terms of the deal are
undisclosed but will be heavily dependent on appearances. Ba, who scored
nine goals in 20 matches during the opening half of the 2010/11 campaign, is
determined to make his mark for his new club, having signed his contract on
Friday morning before heading straight to Chadwell Heath to train. He will
wear the No21 shirt. "It was a long story but now I'm happy because it had a
really good end and I am glad to be here," he told the newly-launched West
Ham TV. "I'm going to give everything to West Ham United."

Ba becomes the third new recruit of this transfer window following Wayne
Bridge and Gary O'Neil. The club are aiming to further strengthen the squad
before Monday night's deadline - with all transfers to be confirmed first
and fastest on whufc.com when official. The forward added: "I have made the
move to West Ham and I'm very happy. I'm definitely excited to be playing in
the Premier League."

An imposing figure blessed with good pace, an impressive touch and an eye
for goal, the Paris-born striker believes he will fit in well in east
London.
"For myself, it is a bit difficult to describe myself, but when I'm on the
pitch I just give everything for the team I am playing for and for the fans
who support me. "I like playing football. I like to be on the pitch playing
good passes with the other guys and running with the ball, rather than
playing in a direct style, so I should be able to fit in well at West Ham."

Ba's prolific goal-scoring form helped Hoffenheim climb from the German
second division - Bundesliga 2 - to the top of the Bundesliga in just six
months.
He has also been capped eight times at international level by Senegal,
scoring twice. For now, though, his thoughts are focused on helping West Ham
to preserve their Barclays Premier League status and boosting the club's
chances in the FA Cup. "My aims for the rest of the season are to enjoy my
football and give everything I have to give to make people happy. "I'm
really happy that the clubs have reached an agreement. I was eager to join
the club and meet my new team-mates. I'd like to thank Hoffenheim for
allowing me to join this team. I thank my family and all my fans for their
support."

Olympic Stadium update
WHUFC.com
West Ham United have issued the following update with regard to the 2012
Olympic Stadium
28.01.2011

More than 50 MPs signed their support this week for the West Ham United and
Newham Council joint bid to take over the Olympic Stadium in Stratford after
the 2012 Games. The first image of how the Olympic Stadium could look as
part of the proposed bid was unveiled by West Ham United vice-chairman
Karren Brady and Mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales at a House of Commons
reception hosted by West Ham MP Lyn Brown. The computer-generated image
shows an extended roof which would add to the intimate feel created by the
impressive sightlines and seating lay-outs, as well as a taste of some of
the wider facilities to be included in the state of the art complex.

The stadium - at the heart of the Olympic Park - would include a football
museum, interactive learning facilities and be a home sport for elite, club,
community and school athletes of all discipline. Under the plans, it would
be open for use as soon as summer 2014.

The event saw dozens of MPs from all the main political parties signing a
pledge board confirming their support for the West Ham-Newham Bid including
Tessa Jowell, the Olympics Minister when the 2012 Games were awarded to
London in July 2005. Also present were Westfield and Live Nation -global
leaders in construction and entertainment events respectively - along with
UK Athletics and Essex Cricket.

Welcoming guests with a passionate speech, Lyn Brown MP said: "As you can
see today, we have cross-Parliamentary support for this Bid. It is a strong
bid, it is the only bid that makes sense, puts money back into the community
and makes sure our children have a sporting future."

Making the formal presentation were Karren Brady and Newham Council Chief
Executive Kim Bromley-Derry, while West Ham Chairman David Gold and Sir
Robin Wales also addressed the audience. Sir Robin emphasised the importance
of ploughing investment back into the community while Mr Gold spoke of his
personal attachment to the East End.

Karren Brady said: "This image gives a true sense of how the Olympic Stadium
would look post-conversion - a truly multi-purpose, multi-event stadium that
would stand as a true home for sport in this country. On 6 July 2005, a
promise was made in the Queen's name. We believe in that promise and we
believe in legacy.

"It's important for the UK's credibility as a sporting nation - especially
in the wake of the 2018 FIFA World Cup disappointment - to keep that
promise. Pulling down the stadium would waste half-a-billion pounds in
taxpayers' money."

Kim Bromley-Derry said: "We see the stadium as a key catalyst in the
regeneration of London. Football is pivotal, of course, but it is also a
golden opportunity for other sports. It's all about creating an Olympic and
multi-sport legacy for the UK and securing an economic legacy for Newham and
London."
Club great Paolo Di Canio was one of many to add weight to the Bid. He said:
"Having played at the Stadium Olimpico in Rome for Lazio which also had a
running track, the atmosphere has always been fantastic. I am certain the
passion of the West Ham supporters will create just as much of an amazing
atmosphere at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford as they do at Upton Park."

West Ham sign Senegal striker Demba Ba until 2014
BBC.co.uk

West Ham have signed Senegal international striker Demba Ba for an
undisclosed fee until June 2014. The 25-year-old joins the Hammers from
Hoffenheim after he announced on his website earlier this week that he would
be joining on a six-month loan. Ba has scored six times for the Bundesliga
club this season and has 40 goals in 103 appearances overall. "It was a long
story but now I'm happy because it had a really good end and I am glad to be
here," he said. "I am going to give everything to West Ham United."

Ba, who joined in at West Ham's training session on Friday morning, was set
to move to Stoke but the deal fell through when he failed a medical after
agreeing personal terms. He becomes West Ham's third signing in the January
transfer window after Wayne Bridge and Gary O'Neil teamed up with Avram
Grant's side, who are bottom of the Premier League table. The Paris-born
striker, who has eight caps for his country, spent three seasons at
Hoffenheim and his switch follows Ryan Babel's move to the German side from
Liverpool. "It's a bit difficult to describe myself, but when I'm on the
pitch I just give everything for the team I am playing for and the fans who
support me," Ba told the West Ham website. "I like playing football, I like
to be on the pitch playing good passes with the other guys and running with
the ball, rather than playing in a direct style, so I should be able to fit
in well at West Ham.
"I'm really happy that the clubs have reached an agreement. I was eager to
join the club and meet my new team-mates. I'd like to thank Hoffenheim for
allowing me to join this team."

West Ham face Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup fourth round this Sunday and
then face crucial games against Blackpool, Birmingham and West Brom in their
next three Premier League fixtures.

Three-year deal for Ba

Demba Ba has completed his move to West Ham United. The Hoffenheim striker
has joined the Irons on a permanent contract and not on loan until the end
of the season, as initially expected. The club have confirmed that whilst
the fee remains undisclosed, Ba's contract is 'heavily dependent on
appearances' made.

25-year-old Ba had appeared set to move to Stoke earlier in the month when
the Potters agreed a £7.1million deal with Hoffenheim. However the move fell
through after Ba failed a medical as a result of a long-standing knee
problem. That was the second time in just over a year that the Senegalese
international has failed a fitness test, following another aborted move to
Stuttgart in 2009. However he enjoyed a full season of football - a run of
some 21 games - before the transfer window opened.

"It was a long story but now I'm happy because it had a really good end and
I am glad to be here," Ba told whufc.com this morning. "I'm going to give
everything to West Ham United. "I'm really happy that the clubs have reached
an agreement. I was eager to join the club and meet my new team-mates. I'd
like to thank Hoffenheim for allowing me to join this team. I thank my
family and all my fans for their support. "I have made the move and I'm very
happy. I'm definitely excited to be playing in the Premier League. I like
playing football. I like to be on the pitch playing good passes with the
other guys and running with the ball, rather than playing in a direct style,
so I should be able to fit in well at West Ham. "My aims for the rest of the
season are to enjoy my football and give everything I have to give to make
people happy. When I'm on the pitch I give everything for the team I am
playing for and for the fans who support me."

West Ham v Forest preview
Hammers look to bounce back from cup heartache against Reds
Last updated: 28th January 2011

West Ham will attempt to make amends for their Carling Cup disappointment
against Nottingham Forest. The Hammers saw a day out at Wembley painfully
snatched away from them by Birmingham on Wednesday night, but will be back
in the knockout saddle on Sunday. They are set to play host to Forest in the
fourth round of the FA Cup, having already disposed of Barnsley. Billy
Davies' side reached this stage after seeing off Preston and will be hoping
that their impressive form in the Championship can be carried over into cup
competition.

Hammers team news

West Ham are set to welcome back two of their most potent attacking weapons
this weekend. Frederic Piquionne and Victor Obinna sat out the midweek
defeat at Birmingham through suspension, but both are set to return. Recent
arrival Gary O'Neil will unavailable to Avram Grant, though, as he is
cup-tied.
Manuel Da Costa (ankle) and Thomas Hitzlsperger (thigh) remain on the
sidelines.

Forest team news
Forest boss Davies is expected to ring the changes at Upton Park, allowing
him to bring in some fresh legs. He has hinted that captain Paul McKenna and
striker David McGoldrick could both figure in the capital. Marcus Tudgay is
another who will miss the game, though, as he is cup-tied. Dexter Blackstock
also sits this one out as he continues to nurse a serious knee injury.

West Ham United have finally completed the signing of Demba Ba from
Hoffenheim. The player agreed his move last week, but the two clubs have
been wrangling over the terms of the switch. Initially a loan deal, the two
clubs have now agreed a permanent move with the player signing terms until
2014.
Skysports.com understands that the deal could eventually be worth up to
£6million but is dependant on appearances.

Long story

"It was a long story but now I'm happy because it had a really good end and
I am glad to be here," Ba told West Ham's official website. "I'm going to
give everything to West Ham United. I have made the move to West Ham and I'm
very happy. I'm definitely excited to be playing in the Premier League. "I'm
really happy that the clubs have reached an agreement. I was eager to join
the club and meet my new team-mates. I'd like to thank Hoffenheim for
allowing me to join this team. I thank my family and all my fans for their
support." The one-time Watford trainee is the third signing of the transfer
window by West Ham, following on from the captures of Wayne Bridge and Gary
O'Neil.
