After a taste of Barclays Premier League action, Guillermo Franco is looking
for more this weekend
23.10.2009
Guille Franco is hoping to play a part against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon
after getting his first taste of action for West Ham United. The Mexico
striker got a brief run-out last week at Stoke City and will be pushing hard
to be involved this weekend. He faces stiff competition from the likes of
Zavon Hines and Alessandro Diamanti to figure alongside Carlton Cole but he
said he will be ready if called upon. "Everybody has been working hard and
is determined to turn things around. We are not in a good moment but I can
see plenty of belief in the squad," he said. "I am ready to play and want to
show what I can do for West Ham. I am really enjoying being at the club and
I am happy to be here. We just need to get a win. We know Arsenal are a
strong team and they have lots of good players but so do we."
If selected, Franco could possibly come up against his international strike
partner Carlos Vela, who has made waves at the Emirates in the past year. He
is also well aware of the talent in the Gunners' side from his time with
Spanish giants Villarreal. In fact he played in the UEFA Champions League
quarter-finals against Arsenal last April. "I have played against them in
the Champions League and I know what to expect. We have the players to
compete with them and the only talking we can really do to show that is on
the pitch."

for an initial month. The midfielder, who turns 19 next month, linked up
with his new team-mates on Thursday and could make his debut for the U's in
Saturday's home fixture with Walsall Payne, who has made three first-team
appearances for West Ham United under Gianfranco Zola, will hope to get
vital senior experience under his belt at the Weston Homes Community

One last season, spending three months at Cheltenham Town, where he scored
once in 13 league and cup appearances.
Payne becomes the sixth West Ham youngster to go out on loan this season,
following Freddie Sears (Crystal Palace), Jordan Spence (Scunthorpe United),
Matt Fry (Gillingham), Anthony Edgar (AFC Bournemouth) and Holmar Orn
Eyjolfsson (Cheltenham Town).

Colchester sign Hammers youngster

Colchester United have signed West Ham United midfielder Josh Payne on a
one-month loan deal. Payne, 18, made his first senior start for the Hammers
in the Carling Cup match against Millwall in August. He came off the bench
twice in Premier League games last season, and also had a loan spell with
Cheltenham. Payne will provide cover for fellow midfielder Kem Izzet who is
doubtful for Saturday's League One match with Walsall because of a flu
virus.

Stoke City defender Robert Huth has been given a three-match ban for
punching Hammers captain Matthew Upson. The German international was handed
the ban for his unwarranted assault on United captain Upson which occured
during last weekend's 2-1 defeat at the Britannia Stadium. A statement on
tthefa.com confirmed the news:
"At a Regulatory Commission hearing today, Stoke City defender Robert Huth
was given a three match suspension to be served with immediate effect," it
read. "Huth admitted a charge of violent conduct relating to an incident
involving West Ham defender Matthew Upson during the Premier League match on
Saturday 17 October."
The decision follows an earlier apology issued to Upson by both the player
and his employees. "Stoke and Robert Huth accept the FA charge of violent
conduct and would like to apologise for the incident at the Britannia
Stadium on Saturday," a club statement had read.

Huth handed three-game ban
Stoke defender suspended over Upson clash

Stoke defender Robert Huth has been handed a three-match ban by the Football
Association following his clash with Matthew Upson. Huth caught the West Ham
defender in the face with his swinging arm during Saturday's 2-1 victory for
the Potters at the Britannia Stadium. The incident was missed by referee
Martin Atkinson at the time but highlighted by television replays with the
FA charging the German with violent conduct. Huth admitted the charge and
has now been banned for three games, ruling him out of Saturday's trip to
Tottenham, plus the Carling Cup fourth round clash at Portsmouth and the
home Premier League meeting with Wolves. A statement on the FA's official
website read: "At a Regulatory Commission hearing today, Stoke City defender
Robert Huth was given a three-match suspension to be served with immediate
effect. "Huth admitted a charge of violent conduct relating to an incident
involving West Ham defender Matthew Upson during the Premier League match on
Saturday, 17 October."
The Potters have taken their own disciplinary action against the former
Middlesbrough man. Stoke manager Tony Pulis said: "We have spoken to Robert
and he knows what we feel. His reaction was poor and it could have cost us
the game. "Upson wasn't even looking at the ball as he blocked Robert off,
but players have to retain their discipline in those situations, whatever
the provocation is."
Andy Wilkinson, who was axed after Huth's £5million arrival from
Middlesbrough in August, is primed to deputise at right-back at Tottenham on
Saturday. But Pulis added: "Robert has been the most consistent player we've
had at the club this season. He's one of the rocks our defence has been
built on and he's been exceptional away from home.
"He's very disappointed he's going to miss games, but he's a good kid and a
great professional who takes on board what we say to him. He will learn and
bounce back from this."

Colchester have signed West Ham youngster Josh Payne on a one-month loan
deal. The midfielder, 18, will go straight into the Us squad for Saturday's
visit of Walsall and could be in line for an immediate debut as Kem Izzet is
doubtful with flu. "He is a good young player who I think a lot of and is
someone who we have been watching for a while," said manager Aidy Boothroyd.
"He has been on the West Ham bench five or six times, and if Kem doesn't
recover before the weekend it means we could play him, David Fox or Antony
Wordsworth in that spot."
