Season ticket holders can purchase their seats for the 9 August friendly for
the Bobby Moore Cup.
14.07.2008
Tickets are on sale today to season ticket holders for the 9 August
pre-season friendly at the Boleyn Ground against Villarreal - a match being
staged as part of the club's link with the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer
Research.
To commemorate the new partnership, £1 from the sale of every match ticket
will go to the Fund (Registered Charity No. 1089464), to help tackle bowel
cancer. In addition, West Ham United will match each £1 raised to double the
total amount donated to the charity. The winners of the game will be awarded
the Bobby Moore Cup. After the season ticket holders sale, tickets will go
on sale to Academy members on 21 July and on general sale on 24 July.
As well as the Bobby Moore celebration, the game could see the Spanish
giants feature three players who helped Spain win Euro 2008 - namely Joan
Capedevila, Marcos Senna and Santi Cazorla, along with a host of other
famous names who featured as the club finished second in the 2007/08 Primera
Division. Alan Curbishley's side could also boast a number of players
returning from injury. After a busy pre-season programme, it will be the
last chance for the first team to be put through their paces before the
Barclays Premier League campaign begins on 16 August.

A model signing? - KUMB
Filed: Monday, 14th July 2008
By: Staff Writer
West Ham United are set to sign 16-year-old Pole Filip Modelski. The young
defender was also said to be interesting Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool but
opted to join the Hammers after spending a week on trial in London at the
start of July, according to the website of his former club, Arka Gdynia. The
fee for Modelski is undisclosed but Arka are claiming it to be one of the
most lucrative sales in their history. Modelski is the third foreign
youngster to join the Hammers since the end of last season following on from
the capture of Holmar Orn Eyjolfsson (Iceland) and Balint Bajner (Hungary).
Whilst United are yet to announce any major signings during this transfer
window - making them one of only six Premier League clubs yet to do so - the
signings are a clear indication of the club's transfer policy as outlined at
the end of last season.

Freddie Sears and James Tomkins kick off their under-19 European
Championship campaign in the Czech Republic later today. The two young
Hammers are both expected to start for Brian Eastick's England side in their
first game of the competition, which kicks off at 4:30pm (GMT) this
afternoon. England begin their campaign against the host nation this
afternoon before facing Italy (Thursday, 17th July) and Greece (Sunday, 20th
July). The top two teams from the group progress through to the knockout
stages of the tournament. Centre-half Tomkins, talking to whufc.com said:
"I'm looking forward to getting back into the international set-up. There
will be more football than I would have had with pre-season training but it
all helps towards my fitness and sharpness for the new season. "This is a
good tournament with good coverage on the television and a great test
against some of the best players in Europe in my age group."
The game can be seen live on Eurosport.

Keeper switch hitch - KUMB

Richard Wright could miss out on a return to Ipswich Town after West Ham
blocked his return to the Championship side. Wright, second choice at the
Boleyn to current number one Rob Green had been set to return to the club
where he began his pro career after the two clubs agreed a fee, thought to
be in the region of £500,000. But Ipswich boss Jim Magilton has revealed
that the move has been blocked by United because, he claims, the Hammers are
unwilling to allow Wright to leave until a replacement has been found. "We
are not prepared to wait too much longer," Magilton told the East Anglian
Daily Times. "I will give it a few more days and see how the land lies and I
hope a deal can be concluded - but if not, we will look elsewhere. "Richard
Wright coming back ticks all our boxes. We are a club he knows well and I
would like to take him back. But it is not ticking West Ham's boxes at the
moment because if they lose a keeper they need a replacement and until they
get a replacement, Richard is not going anywhere. "I totally understand and
respect West Ham's position, they do not want to lose a top-class keeper
like Richard. If they can get in a replacement it may help, although even
then they may turn round and say 'definitely not'. "But if they can get
someone in and it frees up Richard, then we are in a position to take him."
Wright moved to East London a year ago this month after being released by
Everton. He made just a handful of performances for the Hammers due to the
form of Rob Green and is thought to be seeking regular first team football.
The Hammers are currently being linked with Rangers keeper Neil Alexander,
who is thought to be available for around the £1million mark.

Zamora set to sign for Fulham - KUMB
Filed: Monday, 14th July 2008
By: Staff Writer
Bobby Zamora is set to sign for Fulham later today, according to reports.
The United striker has agreed personal terms with the Premier League outfit
and is undergoing a medical this morning. Should that go without a hitch, he
is expected to put pen to paper later today. Fulham are thought to be ready
to part with around £6million for the former Brighton and Tottenham striker,
who joined the Hammers five years ago in a cash-plus-player deal that saw
Jermain Defoe join Spurs. Scott Duxbury, West Ham United's CEO confirmed
last week that Zamora - and fellow Hammer John Paintsil - had been given
permission to speak to Fulham after a deal worth around £6.5million for the
pair was accepted by United.

Magilton wants Wright answer - SSN
Ipswich still trying to bring back former keeper
Last updated: 14th July 2008
Ipswich Town manager Jim Magilton wants a decision on his bid for West Ham
United goalkeeper Richard Wright by the end of the week. Magilton is keen to
bring Wright back to Portman Road, but is waiting on a response from the
Hammers. The former England international 'ticks all the right boxes' for
Magilton, but the Town boss does have another target lined up. And, though
Magilton is eager to see Wright return to his first club, he is anxious for
West Ham to make a decision on the player's future. "We are not prepared to
wait too much longer," Magilton told the East Anglian Daily Times. "We would
like to get something tied up by the end of the week at the latest. I will
give it a few more days and see how the land lies and I hope a deal can be
concluded, if not we will look elsewhere. "We have to have other irons in
the fire and we are constantly on the lookout for the right sort. If it is
not Richard it will be someone else. "There is another goalkeeper we are in
talks with. "Richard Wright coming back ticks all our boxes. We are a club
he knows well and I would like to take him back, but it is not ticking West
Ham's boxes at the moment, because if they lose a keeper they need a
replacement and until they get a replacement, Richard is not going anywhere.
"But if they can get someone in and it frees up Richard, then we are in a
position to take him."

West Ham striker Bobby Zamora undergoes medical at Fulham - Telegraph
By Telegraph staff
Last Updated: 10:34am BST 14/07/2008
Bobby Zamora is today undergoing a medical at Fulham, confirming reports
that the West Ham striker has agreed personal terms with Roy Hodgson's club.
The Cottagers agreed a fee with West Ham last week, and sources have it in
good faith that Zamora will sign for around £6.25 million imminently.
Zamora moved to Upton Park from Tottenham in 2004 as part of the deal that
saw Jermain Defoe join Spurs, and has gone on to score 30 goals in 130
appearances for the club. Last season, however, was less productive, with
only 14 appearances and one goal. Speaking last week, Hammers chief
executive Scott Duxbury admitted that Zamora was set to leave the club: "We
recognise Bobby Zamora and John Paintsil had limited first-team
opportunities last season. "They want to play regular first-team football
and we have given permission for them to speak to Fulham with a view to
concluding a move."
Having fallen out of Alan Curbishley's favour at the club, Zamora has been
looking to find first team opportunities elsewhere. The former Brighton
striker is seen by Fulham as a replacement for former captain Brian McBride,
who left the club earlier this summer for a return to America.

Tomkins to draw on his Hammers experience in the European Champs - This Is
London
Last updated at 13:10pm on 14.07.08
West Ham defender James Tomkins says he is still on a high after making his
Premier League debut and wants to take that momentum into the Under-19s
European Championship with England. The 19-year-old was a surprise
inclusion in Alan Curbishley's starting line-up against Everton in March and
went on to make another four appearances last season. His priorities now
shift towards the European stage as England kick-start their campaign
against the hosts Czech Republic tonight in Jablonec. And Tomkins is
confident he and Hammers team-mate Freddie Sears can use their first-team
experience to help England win the competition. He said: 'It was a bit of a
shock to make my debut last season but it was a great buzz and I will try to
bring that experience into the England team. 'We have a lot talented players
in this age group and some of us have been lucky enough to make appearances
for our club teams.
'Hopefully, I can use that knowledge out in the Czech Republic while also
getting ready for the new season.'

Hammers set to offer new employment to Kaiser Chiefs star Obua - Daily Mail
By Sportsmail Reporter Last updated at 11:55 AM on 14th July 2008
West Ham have handed a trial to Ugandan utility man David Obua, who can play
both at full back and in midfield. The 24-year-old, who plays for Kaizer
Chiefs in South Africa, says he is 'in need of a new challenge' and would
welcome a move to Europe. The midfielder has recently been linked with a
move to Scottish Premier League side Hearts after Laszlo Csaba left his post
as manager of Uganda to take up the job at Tynecastle. Defender Hassan
Wasswa from Ethiopian club St George and striker Geoffrey Massa, who plays
for Egypt's Al Masra, are all on their way to Edinburgh, according to
reports in Africa.
Obua came through US College soccer and is considered one of the best
imports in the South African league in recent years.

Pantsil set for Hammers exit - Football365
John Pantsil is likely to join English side Fulham after a transfer fee of
US$3m was agreed for him. The 27-year-old was given permission by his club
West Ham last to talk Fulham over a possible move. The Ghanaian and his
team-mate Bobby Zamora suffered limited first team opportunities and have
fallen out of favour under Alan Curbishley at Upton Park. West Ham are now
reported to have agreed a combined £7.5million package for the duo for the
deal to be completed. Pantsil will now have to agreed personal terms with
Fulham boss Roy Hodgson for the transfer to be sealed.

Irons ready to steal march on highly-rated Foxes defender - Guardian Series
ALAN Curbishley is renewing his intrest in highly-rated Leicester defender
Joe Mattock, according to reports. The Irons boss had a £1.25 million bid
for the youngster rejected by the Foxes in January. Now he is ready to up
his interest and is reportedly lining up an improved £2 million offer for
the England under 21 international. And Leicester, who were relegated from
the Championship last season, are resigned to losing the talented full back.
But the east Londoners could face stiff competition for Mattock's signature,
with Everton and Aston Villa also keen. The reports could add weight to
claims that George McCartney is about to quit the club. The Northern Ireland
international - the only recognised left back at the club - has been
strongly linked with a £4.5 million return to former club Sunderland.

Zamora all set for Fulham move - Guardian Series
BOBBY Zamora is expected to complete his move to Fulham today. The West Ham
striker will have his medical at Craven Cottage and will look to sign on the
dotted line after the two clubs agreed a fee thought to be in the region of
£6 million. Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson has been tracking the 27-year-old for
some time and believes he is a perfect replacement for Brian McBride, who
quit the club earlier this month. Zamora arrived in east London as part of
the deal that took Jermain Defoe to Spurs in 2004. He played 152 games and
scored 40 goals for the Irons, including the winner in the club's
Championship play-off final success over Preston in 2005. Meanwhile, Hodgson
also looks set to snap up another Hammer after agreeing a fee of around £1
million for right back John Pantsil. The Ghanaian international joined the
Irons for £1 million from Hapoel Tel Aviv in August 2006 but has managed
just 24 appearances, mainly as a substitute. The defender is keen to quit
the club in search regular first team football.

Whining Willy to West Ham? - Vital Football
After some early pre-season transfer activity, things have gone a bit quiet,
so Wanderers fans were grateful for the amusement provided over the weekend
by stories linking former player Christian Wilhelmsson to West Ham United.
The Swedish winger (or maybe that should be whinger) blamed his dismal
showing at Bolton on the team`s style of play.
'At Bolton we played a style of football that was too heavily based on
physical strength, that was not right for me,' he moaned. 'Then when the new
manager, Gary Megson, came in and got us using the long-ball game even more,
I knew it was time for me to leave.'
While no one can deny that Bolton were grisly to watch last season,
Wilhelmsson conveniently forgets to mention his inability to cross, pass,
shoot, go past players, use his left foot or stand up, when facing anything
more than a stiff breeze. Never has a player spent so much of his time
horizontal.
Willy has now had a hat-trick of failed loan spells. One can only have
sympathy for the chairman of FC Nantes. He must feel like the father of a
much divorced bride, who repeatedly gives his daughter away, only to find
her camped on the doorstep, complete with suitcases, a few weeks later.
West Ham have signed some dross of late (John Paintsil, Luis Boa Morte
anyone?) but it is unlikely that they will take a risk on a player who can
neither compete in the English game or stay fit for an extended period of
time. It`ll be good if it happens, but only for fans of other Premier League
clubs.

So Far, So Wrong - The West Ham Process
I think there is more going on at West Ham at the minute than immediately
meets the eye. At least that is the only excuse I can find for all the
peculiar activity that has been going down at God's Green Acre (Thanks
Kirk!). The general consensus amongst people on my first post about Zamora
is that we shouldn't be selling him. At least not in preference to Carlton
Cole. Many people agreed that he wasn't necessarily the best player since
sliced bread, but that his dedication and commitment to our club is enough
to try and hold onto him.
So why is Curbishley looking to offload him to Fulham where he is having his
medical this week? I would argue that the majority of loyal fans at Upton
Park would rather see Zamora pulling on the Claret and Blue next season
rather that Carlton Cole.
Perhaps we are just not physically able to sell Cole. I'm not a boo boy, and
I'm not denying that Cole had a handful of decent performances at the end of
last year, but that does not defend his sometimes appalling performances at
other times during the season.
One thing Cole does seem to almost have going for him compared to Zamora is
his fitness and lack of injury. Then again, Zamora played the final few
games of the year with an injury such is his dedication to the shirt. We
always talk about it, the fact that 9 times out of 10, a player who shows
loyalty to our club and a desire to play is worth so much to the fans. So
why does Curbs think it makes sense to sell him? On a similar note, the fact
that Anton makes a conscious effort to run into each corner of the ground at
the beginning of each respective half speaks volumes about his desire to
play in Claret and Blue and bring the fans what they want. That however
should be saved for another day…especially if we lose him to Villa or
Newcarsele.
What it all boils down to in my opinion is once again the Tevez
affair/saga/mash-up/mix-up/balls-up. All that we have witnessed (or not
witnessed) this transfer window (offloading Zamora/Solano and employing
Kia/welcoming Brown back) basically says to me that the case is not as cut
and dry as we all originally thought it was.
So far outwardly Curbs has been making all the wrong moves, particularly in
the eyes of the fans. Inwardly however, I think it is a different story.
Mind you, why would he sell Cole? After all, he did used to play for
Charlton.

Hughes keen on Irons skipper - Guardian Series
WEST HAM captain Lucas Neill is the subject of interest from former boss
Mark Hughes, who is reportedly keen on taking the defender to Manchester
City.
Neill has been strongly linked with a move to Turkish side Galatasaray in
the last week. But new City boss Hughes is thought to be compiling an offer
that would see him reunited with the 30-year-old, who he managed during his
time at Blackburn Rovers. Internet site Tribal Football understand Neill is
at logger-heads with Upton Park officials over pay and reported that a deal
worth £2 million is on the cards.
