Hammers Hope To Nail Down Bilic - Goal.com

West Ham have reportedly expressed their intention to install Slaven Bilic
as manager next season, as a number of Premier League clubs circle for the
Croatia coach. The 39-year-old began to attract significant attention after
his side defeated England home and away last year to qualify for EURO 2008
at the Three Lions' expense. Last week's impressive 2-1 victory over Germany
in Klagenfurt has cemented the ex-Everton defender among the most prominent
coaches in Europe, and certainly one of the most charismatic. The People
reports that a host of clubs are lining up to lure Bilic to England, and
that his former club West Ham heads the queue. Current Hammers boss Alan
Curbishley is under pressure after a decidedly mediocre campaign, and a
shaky start next season could see club owner Eggert Magnusson authorise the
switch poste haste. Croatia defender Vedran Corluka has already expressed
his deep admiration for Bilic, and hopes the former Hajduk Split man will
the resist the lure of a big-money move. "I think clubs in England will be
looking at the job Slaven has done for Croatia," said the Manchester City
full-back. "He has shown to everyone that Croatia play good football under
him and we beat good teams. "Everyone can see Slaven is very passionate
about Croatia - he loves his country. But I am sure that one time, although,
hopefully, not soon, he will want to manage in the Premier League because he
has played in England and enjoyed his time there. "There is big money on
offer in the Premier League but we all hope that he will stay on for two
more years in Croatia. "And if Slaven has to go we hope that he will stay
until after the World Cup finals in 2010 and then move to a club in the
Premier."

West Ham in frame as Premiership clubs circle Bilic
tribalfooball.com - June 15, 2008

Croatia coach Slaven Bilic is again being linked with West Ham United. The
People says the impressive way they beat Germany means Croatia run the risk
of losing Bilic to English football. So far, chain-smoking boss Bilic -
reportedly earning just £90,000 with Croatia before bonuses - has not been
influenced by the mind-blowing cash available in the Premier League. But his
charismatic spectre is hovering ominously over West Ham boss Alan
Curbishley, with Upton Park sources suggesting a poor start to the season
will trigger a move for Bilic. That has Corluka and his countrymen deeply
worried. Corluka, 22, said: "I think clubs in England will be looking at the
job Slaven has done for Croatia. He has shown to everyone that Croatia play
good football under him and we beat good teams. "Everyone can see Slaven is
very passionate about Croatia - he loves his country. "But I am sure that

Premier League because he has played in England and enjoyed his time there.
