Dyer making steady progress - WHUFC
11/10/2007 14:52

Kieron Dyer is making steady progress in his rehabilitation following his
double leg fracture six weeks ago. The England midfielder was carried off
after a collision with an opponent six minutes into the Carling Cup
second-round tie at Bristol Rovers on 28 August. While it is still too early
to say when Dyer may be able to return to training, the club's medical staff
are pleased with the progress being made. West Ham United head
physiotherapist George Cooper said: "Kieron met with his surgeon yesterday
and it went really well as he said that Kieron was right on schedule with
his rehabilitation. He had an X-ray which showed the bone is growing round
the fracture at the rate we would expect it to. "He was given the all-clear
to continue using two crutches and to put the injured leg down, gradually
introducing weight over the next month," he added. "If that goes well the
process will then be to use one crutch, thus introducing more weight and
then, after that, walking with no crutches at all."

West Ham United's medical staff have revealed that Kieron Dyer's
rehabilitation is 'right on schedule'. The midfielder suffered a double leg
break in August during the Carling Cup tie against Bristol Rovers. Dyer is
now working on his gradual recovery and has been boosted by the news that
everything is on track. Head physiotherapist George Cooper confirmed the
encouraging update and outlined the sequence of events should the
28-year-old's recovery continue to improve as expected.
"Kieron met with his surgeon and it went really well as he said that Kieron
was right on schedule with his rehabilitation," he told the club's official
website "He had an X-ray which showed the bone is growing round the fracture

the previous round that has left West Ham United on the verge of the last
eight. "I just want to get another chance," Reid told whufc.com. "I am
waiting for my call. Whenever he calls me, hopefully I will take my chance
and hopefully I can do better than my last performance out there."

Tosh Tells Hammers: No Risks With Bellamy - gola.com

Wales manager John Toshack has reassured his West Ham counterpart Alan
Curbishley that he won't take any risks with striker Craig Bellamy. Wales'
hopes of qualification to the European Championship finals have almost
entirely disappeared, with only a miracle able to save them for yet more
disappointment. But manager John Toshack has been handed a glimmer of hope
with the unexpected return to fitness of West Ham striker Craig Bellamy, who
Tosh had not expected to be match ready.
The Hammers had assessed the striker last week and felt he was fit enough to
play a part for Wales against Cyprus on Saturday and San Marino in mid-week.
Wales coach Dean Saunders has revealed that Bellamy has trained as normal,
following treatment at the same clinic as Michael Owen for a groin problem.
"Craig is fine, he is doing everything in training and looks really sharp,"
said Saunders. "And because the operation was only last week, he has not
lost any of his general fitness. When you have an operation and you are out
for a couple of weeks you do start to lose fitness. "So the benefit from
coming back this quickly is that he is ready to go, you couldn't tell he'd
just had an operation."
Manager John Toshack has reassured West Ham that Bellamy will only be
selected if he is entirely rehabilitated. I can assure West Ham that we will
not take any risks with Craig," Toshack told the Western Mail."He has
trained with us and looked fine, but he will be monitored right through the
week in Cyprus and I will not take any decision on him until Saturday
morning ahead of the match. "Craig has not been given any restrictions by
West Ham on what he can do, they are quite happy for him to be with us. "We
never expected him to be remotely available for the Cyprus match. We had
made arrangements for him to be flown out to Bologna on Monday to join up
with the squad ahead of the San Marino game, in the outside hope he might be
available for that one. "Suddenly, though, we could have Craig for the two
games. And, as we saw in Slovakia in the last match, everyone knows how
important a player he is to us."

U18s show why West Ham is still 'The Academy'
By Guardian-series

WEST Ham United U18s are flying high after hitting 17 goals in their last
three matches. The youth side chalked up a 7-3 win over London rivals
Millwall at the weekend, while recent results include a 6-0 victory at
Cardiff and a 4-1 home win against Chelsea. Freddie Sears was the star of
the show at Millwall, hitting a hat-trick, and Bondz N'Gala, Anthony Edgar,
Jack Jeffrey and Junior Stanislas also found the target.
Delighted Academy director Tony Carr said: "To score seven goals away from
home is a tremendous achievement and we were always in control. "It was
another all-round great team performance and while you don't expect every
game to be as high scoring as our games have been in the last three matches,
we want to keep it all going now. We are playing really well and scoring
goals from all over."
For young striker Sears, his hat-trick against Millwall was his second in as
many games - he hit three against Chelsea the week before - and has now
scored 12 goals in the last six games. The only downside was an injured
ankle that forced him to pull out of the England U19 squad this week.
"Freddie took a knock on his ankle after scoring his first goal. He didn't
want to come off, but once he had scored his hat-trick I pulled him off as
he needed treatment," said Carr. "He did join up with the England U19s, but
they sent him home on Sunday night because he isn't going to recover in time
to play. It's disappointing for him but, if he stays in this rich vein of
form, there will certainly be other opportunities for him. "Fred has stepped
up to the levels I want him to be at this season and he is carrying on the
good work from last year, when he was also very prolific."
The young Hammers take a breather this weekend with no match scheduled,
giving Carr the chance to assess a successful few weeks. "We started the
season disappointingly by our standards," he said. "We only lost narrowly
1-0 in both games and really should have got something from them. So, it was
all about getting the confidence going and, once we started scoring, we have
gone on and upwards from there. "The way we played in the second half
against Chelsea was the best we have played this year."

Hammers at sixes and sevens - Daily Mail
Last updated at 10:08am on 11th October 2007

West Ham's new sponsors, XL Holidays, have finally got their sums right. The
holiday company took over from Jobserve as the Hammers' shirt sponsors this
season and have taken out adverts all around the ground. Unfortunately, the
banner adorning the Centenary Stand since August - "Choose from 7 paradise
islands - Antigua, Barbados, Grenada, St Kitts, St Lucia and Tobago" -
proved misleading. Someone eventually twigged and it now reads to "Choose
from 6 paradise islands...
