Crikey West Ham Wind Up With Solano - West Ham Fans.org
Submitted by Neville Nixon on 31 August, 2007 - 22:49.

Forget Shorey from Reading and Barnes from Derby, West Ham United's last
minute shopping yielded Noberto Solano from Newcastle on a free transfer.
Not maybe the World Class player that fans had been hoping for but given the
circumstances realists expected little else, in fact a Hammers supporting
wag down at the Beeb was saying that players are frightened of coming to the
Boleyn because of 'the injury curse'. Now while this is gallows humor there
is an element of truth in it.

Footballers are notoriously superstitious and maybe the hideous injury
sustained by Kieron Dyer along with all the other serious injuries that have
afflicted new signings has had an effect on players wanting to sign, that
and the greed of their clubs of course!

Never the less West Ham have secured the services on a free deal for the
Peruvian International who despite being 33 years old has an eye for goal
and the ability to pick out a pass. Before sinking into the depths of
depression at the paucity of new signings fans should perhaps remember what
deadline day was like when Hammers were forced to sell their best players on
a regular basis.

Will the last one out the Boleyn please turn off the lights. - Ed

Footnote: Neither Clubs nor the FA are obligated to announce any last minute
deals, there is a vague possibility that there has been additional activity
and that West Ham have decided details would best be made public
tomorrow...yeah right

Solano signs for Hammers - SSN
By James Dall Last updated: 1st September 2007

West Ham have landed Newcastle's Nolberto Solano on a free transfer, just
moments before the close of the transfer window. Alan Curbishley was
desperate to bring in a right-sided midfielder after summer signing Kieran
Dyer suffered a broken leg. Earlier in the summer, Magpies boss Sam
Allardyce insisted he had no intention of letting Solano leave but
circumstances have changed with the versatile player heading to Upton Park.
Solano was recently recalled by Peru after an absence of more than two
years.

United appear to have clinched a deal to bring Nolberto Solano to the club.
Reports are now suggesting that the transfer, which has been on hold all
evening pending the completion of Newcastle's own transfer business, has now
been completed with about 15 minutes left before the transfer window shuts.
The 33 year-old Peruvian joins following his second spell with the Magpies.
He made 36 appearances for Newcastle last season, scoring twice.

Attempts to sign Reading's Nicky Shorey and Derby's Giles Barnes have fallen
through. A spokesman for Reading has revealed tonight that the Shorey deal
fell through after United failed to raise their initial £4m offer. The
spokesman claimed that they had not heard from the Hammer since last week.
Meanwhile United are thought to have pulled out of the Barnes deal after
Derby made excessive demands. Elsewhere, the deal to bring Inter striker
Adriano to the club fell through - as widely expected - earlier today,
meaning that veteran Nobby Solano is the only player coming into the club
prior to the end of the summer transfer window.
