Tevez delays decision on future - BBC Sport

West Ham striker Carlos Tevez will not make a decision over his future until
after the Copa America.
Tevez, 23, has been linked with several clubs after keeping West Ham in the
Premier League, but is playing for Argentina in the Copa in Venezuela.
His representative Kia Joorabchian said: "Carlos is playing in the Copa and
that is where his prime focus is.
"We intend talking more seriously about his future when the Copa is over. At
the moment there is no development."
The Copa America final is on 14 July.
On Thursday, Tevez ruled out a move to Italian champions Inter Milan after
they imposed a deadline for him to make a decision.
But Joorabchian said Tevez was keen to stay in the Premier League and
several clubs have been linked with a move for him.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool are all rumoured to be interested,
while West Ham are keen to keep him at Upton Park.
Tevez was inspirational in the Hammers' run-in at the end of the season,
scoring the winner on the final day as they won 1-0 at Man Utd to stay up.
Tevez said in May that he was keen to move away from Upton Park saying: "I
want to join one of Europe's big clubs, that's what I've talked to my agents
about."

Cisse to snub English overtures - Sky Sports
By Tom Adams - Created on 29 Jun 2007

Djibril Cisse's agent has confirmed that the Liverpool striker will snub
interest from three English clubs to join Marseille.
The French international spent the season on loan with l'OM and is now set
on finalising a permanent move, despite interest from the Premier League.
West Ham, Portsmouth and Bolton had all shown interest in Cisse, according
to his agent Ranko Stojic.
"Marseille is definitely the choice for Djibril," Stojic told the BBC. "I
think the deal will happen on Friday or Saturday.
"I have been very busy this week - I caught six planes in two days - and I
am sorry for the people I have not had the chance to call back, Mr Eggert
Magnusson of West Ham for example.
"The Marseille option is the best choice for Djibril because of the
Champions League.
"West Ham, Bolton and Portsmouth I understand are very, very good clubs but
Djibril wants to play in the top level of European competition next season."
Marseille will be looking for Cisse to play a leading role in their UEFA
Champions League campaign next season after losing attacking talisman Franck
Ribery to Bayern Munich.

Blades made to wait by Tevez arbitration panel - thisislondon.co.uk

Sheffield United remained in limbo last night after the arbitration panel
who were finally expected to deliver a verdict on the Carlos Tevez affair
failed to meet their own deadline.
Legal complexities are being blamed for the hold up and the panel are now
not expected to reveal anything until next week at the earliest.
United plc chairman Kevin McCabe said: "The fact that it is taking so long
is, at least, a recognition that the case we put forward is being taken
seriously."

Barca star distanced from England move - Daily Mail
Last updated at 15:00pm on 29th June 2007

Ludovic Giuly's agent has distanced the Barcelona winger from a move to the
Premier League following reported interest from clubs including West Ham.
Alain Migliaccio said on www.skysports.com: "Ludo refused Benitez and
Liverpool last year, so he won't join West Ham or Newcastle now."
With Nigel Reo-Coker expected to leave, Curbishley has signed midfielder
Scott Parker and wants to bolster his squad further.
Kevin Nolan had been suggested as a possible target but the midfielder
intends to impress under the new management at Bolton after Sam Allardyce's
departure and Sammy Lee's appointment.
"It's going to be a test for me to prove myself to another manager," he
said. "I was delighted that he got the job. I think he will be fantastic and
hopefully we can take off and go even further from where Sam left us."
Darren Bent turned down the Hammers for a move to Spurs, but it is
understood that Mark Noble is willing to extend his contract after
impressing for England Under-21s at the recent European Championships.
Meanwhile Keith Peacock has left the coaching staff of West Ham to take a
break from football.
The former Charlton player spent a year at Upton Park and was appointed
assistant to boss Alan Pardew last October before Alan Curbishley took the
reins.
"I feel that now is the right time to take a break," said Peacock on club
website www.whufc.com.
"It will give me more time to spend with the family and grandchildren, which
is something I am greatly looking forward to."

Lucas preparing for Asian Cup campaign - WHUFC - Official Site
28/06/2007 16:06

Lucas Neill will be one notable absentee when West Ham United players return
to pre-season training at Chadwell Heath on Monday.
The Hammers right-back is currently back home in Australia preparing with
his international team-mates for the Asian Cup tournament, which kicks off
in south-east Asia next week.
The Socceroos make their first appearance in the continental championship
after moving into the Asian confederation at the start of last year and go
into the competition as one of the favourites to lift the trophy.

However, Lucas insists that they won't have a comfortable ride as they go up
against the best of Asian football, including defending champions Japan.

"I wouldn't say we're the favourites," he says. "I would say we're one of
the stronger teams.

"Japan are obviously favourites because they're more experienced at this
level and in this environment and we're coming here trying to challenge
teams such as them.

"So we have to approach it with a different mentality but we've still got a
lot to prove because we're the new kids on the block."
Australia face Oman on July 8, Iraq on July 13 and Thailand on July 16 in
their group matches and will qualify for the next phase by finishing in the
top two.

The final will be held in Indonesia on July 29.

Keith stepping down to take a break - WHUFC - Official Site
29/06/2007 11:01

Keith Peacock has revealed that he is stepping down from his role at West
Ham United to take a break from football after nearly half a century of
involvement in the game.

The former Charlton Athletic favourite is leaving Upton Park after spending
a year on the coaching staff working for both Alan Pardew and Alan
Curbishley, and admits the time is now right to step back from football's
'front line'.

"I've been very fortunate to have spent more than 45 years as a player,
coach and a manager and I feel that now is the right time to take a break,"
says Keith.

"Apart from a three-month spell back in 1991, I haven't really had a break
from the game during all that time, and in terms of coaching, it was always
my intention to take a step back at this stage of my life.

"I'm sure I will always have a connection with the game in some form or
another," he adds, "but I am certainly retiring from what I call the 'front
line' of football, when - as a player, coach or a manager - you are focused
so intensely on that result on a Saturday afternoon.

"I think it's time to reflect a little, take a nice long break and then
think about things from there. It will give me more time to spend with the
family and grandchildren, which is something I am greatly looking forward
to."

And despite only spending 12 months of that long-serving career at Upton
Park, Keith insists he will always have a special place in his heart for the
Hammers.

"It has certainly been a remarkable experience," he says. "I think West Ham
United probably packed more into last season than most clubs do in a five
year period!"

"It was certainly a dramatic campaign, but the main thing is that it
finished with a happy ending and, I've got to say, if you are looking to
finish on a high, then winning 1-0 at Old Trafford is definitely the way to
do it! That was a very special day.

"I've made a lot of friends at the Club and have really enjoyed my time
here. I wish West Ham United all the very best and look forward to following
the team from a distance in the future."

Tevez rejects move to Inter Milan - BBC Sport

West Ham striker Carlos Tevez has turned down a move to Inter Milan after
the Italian champions imposed a deadline for him to make a decision.
The 23-year-old has been linked to several clubs in England and abroad but
is keen to stay in the Premier League.
A statement from Tevez's representative Kia Joorabchian said: "Inter put a
deadline on the decision and Carlos' heart is really in the Premier League.
"He was not prepared to meet that cut-off point put on him."
Tevez said in May that he was keen to move away from Upton Park saying: "I
want to join one of Europe's big clubs, that's what I've talked to my agents
about."
Joorabchian, though, insisted that the Hammers are in talks to keep the
Argentina international but played down reports of a £115,000 per week being
offered to convince him to stay.
The Iranian businessman added: "That is "absolutely not true".
"He has not been offered that sum of money to stay, but it is true we are
still talking and hope to come to some arrangement."
Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Inter were among the clubs strongly
linked with a move for Tevez but Inter have ruled themselves out of the
running due to their demands.
Inter president Massimo Moratti told his club website: "Tevez is no longer a
target, we are fine as we are in attack."
The forward was instrumental in the West Ham's successful battle to avoid
relegation last season after a difficult start to hi Upton Park career.
Tevez moved from Corinthians last summer but the Hammers were subsequently
fined a record £5.5m by an independent commission for breaching Premier
League rules.

Blades may learn fate on Tuesday - BBC Sport

Sheffield United could learn their relegation fate from a Premier League
arbitration panel on Tuesday.
A verdict was expected before the end of June, but BBC Sport understands it
will be delivered next week.
The Blades claim West Ham should have been docked points for breaking
transfer rules over the signings of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano.
West Ham stayed up at the Blades' expense on the final day of the season,
leading to Sheffield United's appeal.
West Ham had earlier been fined £5.5m by the Premier League for their
handling of the deals for the two Argentina internationals.
The arbitration tribunal can order a new disciplinary commission be set up
to review the West Ham case, or rule that the Premier League handled the
affair completely by the book.
A third option would be for the tribunal to declare that there are no
grounds to order a new disciplinary commission for West Ham but that
Sheffield United could have a case for compensation - but that verdict too
would open a can of worms by effectively saying that the original commission
acted inappropriately.

Monaco hope for Giuly return - SkySports
By Patrick Haond - Created on 29 Jun 2007

Barcelona winger Ludovic Giuly appears reluctant to move to the Premier
League, but would consider a return to Monaco.
Giuly has previously stated he wants to stay at Camp Nou, but has been
linked with a ?5million (£3.4million) exit over the summer.
Speculation has claimed that Newcastle United and West Ham United want the
France international, who was formerly a target for Liverpool.
But his agent Alain Migliaccio is ruling out the English option, and also
concedes Barca's asking price is prohibiting a move back to Monaco.
"Ludo refused Benitez and Liverpool last year, so he won't join West Ham or
Newcastle now," said Migliaccio.
"Indeed, with Monaco we had a talk, but as long as Barcelona will ask for
such a fee, nothing will happen."
Monaco's sporting director Jean-Luc Ettori confirmed the interest in the
midfielder and hopes the pull of a return to Stade Louis II will persuade
Giuly to accept a wage cut.
Ettori told France Football: "I had a phone call with Ludo. He knows we want
him.
"He also knows we can't go far beyond certain financial conditions. Other
clubs could offer him better wages, but we have other assets.
"He knows the club and knows we appreciate him. It is the right year for his
comeback. We need him now."

Tevez 'turns down' Inter - SkySports
By Mark Buckingham - Created on 28 Jun 2007

West Ham United striker Carlos Tevez appears to be leaning towards staying
in the Premier League after declining to meet Internazionale's deadline.
Tevez is weighing up his club future and has been linked with the likes of
Arsenal, Liverpool, Inter and Real Madrid.
Inter had expressed an interest in signing the Argentine, but president
Massimo Moratti revealed earlier on Thursday that Tevez was 'no longer an
objective'.
According to the forward's representative Kia Joorabchian, Inter had set a
deadline for the player to make a decision on a move to the Serie A
champions.
Joorabchian admits Tevez was not willing to meet that demand, particularly
as he seems keen to stay in English football.
"Inter put a deadline on the decision and Carlos' heart is really in the
Premier League, so he was not prepared to meet that cut-off point," said
Joorabchian in a statement.
Tevez, who has yet to rule out staying at West Ham next season, is currently
in Venezuela on Copa America duty with the Argentine national team.
Joorabchian also dismissed suggestions that Tevez has been offered a
£100,000-a-week contract to stay at Upton Park.
He added: "He has not been offered that sum of money to stay, but it is true
we are still talking and hope to come to some arrangement."

Inter out of Tevez running - SkySports
By Mark Buckingham - Created on 28 Jun 2007

Internazionale have ended any interest in signing Carlos Tevez from West Ham
United.
The Argentine striker had emerged as a target for the Serie A champions as
he considers his future at Upton Park.
Tevez admitted he would prefer a move to Inter ahead of Real Madrid, who
have also expressed an interest in the forward.
But a switch to Giuseppe Meazza no longer appears to be an option for Tevez
after Inter captured David Suazo from Cagliari.
"He is no longer our objective," said Inter president Massimo Moratti in
reference to Tevez.
"We are fine as we are in attack."
Tevez's compatriot Hernan Crespo has already expressed his concern at the
number of strikers in Inter's squad, with the likes of Adriano, Zlatan
Ibrahimovic and Julio Cruz also on the books.
Moratti feels Crespo may have a valid point, although the Inter supremo did
not rule out further comings and goings before the start of next season.
He added: "Crespo's declarations weren't interpreted well, but the Argentine
may be right when he says there are too many of us in attack.
"However, our buying and selling hasn't finished yet."

Top clubs on alert as Tevez snubs Inter - Daily Telegraph
By Tim Rich
Last Updated: 1:50am BST 29/06/2007

Liverpool and Manchester United were last night put on alert when West Ham
striker Carlos Tevez turned down a move to Inter Milan and expressed his
desire to remain a Premiership player.
The 23-year-old Argentina international, who was instrumental in West Ham's
successful battle to avoid relegation, is expected to leave Upton Park in
the summer.
Inter and Real Madrid are among several clubs to have shown interest, but a
statement from Tevez's representative, Kia Joorabchian, said last night:
"Inter put a deadline on the decision and Carlos' heart is really in the
Premier League." That could tempt United and also Liverpool, who last season
signed compatriot Javier Mascherano.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are close to agreeing a fee for striker Fernando
Torres that would smash the club's transfer record.
advertisement
Atletico Madrid appear to have accepted Liverpool's offer of £20 million
plus Luis Garcia, who is apparently happy to return to the Vincente Calderon
Stadium where he spent a season before his transfer to Barcelona four years
ago. The cash-plus-player deal would satisfy the £27 million release clause
in Torres' contract.

Nolan keen to stay on at Bolton - TeamTalk

Kevin Nolan has cooled speculation linking him with a move to West Ham by
insisting he is "excited" about playing under Sammy Lee at Bolton.
Nolan is thought to be on Hammers boss Alan Curbishley's summer shopping
list as a replacement for Nigel Reo-Coker, who is expected to seal a switch
to Aston Villa.
But midfielder Nolan insists he is focused on keeping his place in the
Trotters first team as he prepared to fly out for a week-long training camp
in Austria.
He told The Bolton News: "I'm really really excited about this season so
it's up to me to make sure that I am in the team week in, week out.
"It should be good. I'm looking forward to the pre-season and getting fit
and ready. Hopefully, I'll be raring to go come 11 August and have a good
start against Newcastle United."
Nolan also insisted he was prepared to prove himself to new boss Lee after
he replaced Sam Allardyce at the end of last season.
"It's going to be a test for me to prove myself to another manager," Nolan
added.
"Sam Allardyce knew what I was all about. He brought me into the team as a
17-year-old kid and at times you could rest on your laurels because he knows
what you can do.
"Sammy has only known me for a couple of years and has only known me as an
assistant manager really. Now he's the top man, I've got to impress him
because you don't always see eye to eye with your assistant manager.
"That wasn't the case with Sammy and I was delighted that he got the job. I
think he will be fantastic and hopefully we can take off and go even further
from where Sam left us.
"Given time, support and patience I am sure that he will be able to do
that."

Cahill and Arteta stick with Toffees - TeamTalk

Everton have ended any uncertainty over the futures of Tim Cahill and Mikel
Arteta by agreeing new five-year contracts with the key pair.
The Toffees are believed to have put the midfield stars on parity with the
club's top earners.
Cahill is currently with the Australia squad preparing for the Asian Cup
having recovered from the broken foot injury that wrecked the end of his
last campaign, while Arteta will return to pre-season training with the
Toffees next week.
Boss David Moyes is particularly pleased to have tied Arteta to a long term
deal, saying: "We are delighted with how he (Arteta) has done. He has played
really, really well last season.
"We like his skills and ability but he has grown into the team ethic that we
have here and I think that has been the reason he has done so well."
Both players had three years of their current deals to go, but the arrival
of Andrew Johnson has seemingly created a wages gap between the England
striker and current key first team players.
Johnson and Joseph Yobo are believed to be the club's top earners on around
£45,000 a week, and now both Cahill and Arteta seemingly have been rewarded
with similar deals.
Everton have also ended any uncertainties over the futures of both players.
Arteta has been on the shopping list of several Spanish clubs, including
Atletico Madrid, and pointedly talked of acquiring a new deal at the end of
last season when he was voted Everton's Player of the Season.
And both he and Cahill had been the subject of speculation linking them with
West Ham earlier in the summer, as was striker Johnson.
At the time an angry boss David Moyes insisted that "West Ham couldn't
afford our players, any of them."
And now Everton have agreed new five-year deals with the pair, tying them to
the club until 2012.
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright is delighted to have concluded the
negotiations.
He told the club's website: "David Moyes and myself were keen to get these
important extensions wrapped up before the new season opens. We did it in
the Everton way - quietly, efficiently and away from the glare of the
spotlight.
"Negotiations have been ongoing for several weeks and have now been
satisfactorily concluded and I know the two lads are as happy as we are."
The formalities of the new deals are set to be completed next week, with
Moyes and the majority of his senior squad returning to pre-season training
on Monday.
Between them, Arteta and Cahill have monopolised the official Everton Player
of the Season award in recent years, with the Aussie free-scoring midfielder
receiving it in 2005 and the Spanish play maker picking up the accolade in
each of the last two seasons.
Cahill is currently preparing for the Asia Cup with Australia after
recovering from a broken foot.
Arteta will report back at Bellefield for pre-season training next week.

One in, one out - KUMB

Keith Peacock has stepped down from his position as assistant manager -
after less than a year in the job.
Peacock - who was brought to West Ham from Charlton by former boss Alan
Pardew last July as head coach before replacing Peter Grant as Pardew's
number two in October - announced his decision to quit this morning.

Talking to whufc.com, Peacock explained his decision to quit the game after
45 years' involvement.

"I've been very fortunate and I feel that now is the right time to take a
break," he said.

"Apart from a three-month spell back in 1991, I haven't really had a break,
and it was always my intention to take a step back at this stage of my life.

"I think it's time to reflect a little, take a nice long break and then

"But the main thing is that it finished with a happy ending at Old Trafford.
That was a very special day."

Peacock's successor is likely to be another former Charlton man, Glyn
Snodin, whose appointment as first-team coach was confirmed earlier this
week.

O'Neill must pay £9m for midfielder - Eat Sleep Sport.com
Fri, Jun 29 2007 10:16

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has reportedly been told he must pay
£9million if he wants to sign West Ham midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker.Reo-Coker
is one of O'Neill's main transfer targets during the close season this
summer and has already had a bid of £7million rejected by Hammers manager
Alan Curbishley.
O'Neill remains keen on bringing the 23-year-old former England Under-21
captain to Villa Park but he is said to have been told he must match West
Ham's valuation if he is to do so.
Manchester City are also understood to be interested in Reo-Coker, who has
made no secret of his desire to leave Upton Park before the start of the new
campaign.
O'Neill said: "We're looking to strengthen the squad in the next month and
we want to be in a position where we can challenge.
"But I don't want to talk about who those players are, because we seem to
have been linked with almost everybody.
"Supporters can be rest assured we'll be strengthening and we'll let them
know as soon as there's anything to report."

Charlton And Ipswich Owe West Ham Big Time - WestHamFans.org
Submitted by Neville Nixon on 28 June, 2007 - 19:59.
With the news that Darren Bent is about to sign for Tottenham for a fee
believed to be around the £15.5 Million mark, Charlton Athletic and Ipswich
Town are the benefactors of West Ham United's spread shot approach to
acquiring players. Although the lessons of 'the Bent Affair' have been well
and truly learned by Eggert Magnusson and those that matter at West Ham, it
seems that Bent's high price has shown just how extreme the shortage of
genuine available talent to premier league clubs is. Charlton are set to
make a massive £13 Million profit from the sale, and Ipswich get a 25% sell
on that will net them £2.75 Million. Having gone in 'Big' for Bent, Hammers
set the precedent for the players value, but realistically Bent might get a
few goals, but is far from the finished article.. Many fans are happy that
Hammers were not held over a barrel because of Bent, it is hoped that future
targets are more keenly thought out, after all, there is a lot of talent out
there, the Copa America is a freebie for the scouts. Hammers could be in the
frame for some exotic fare, it beats jellied eels you know!

Snodin looking forward to the challenge - WHUFC Official Site
27/06/2007 14:47

New First Team Coach Glynn Snodin has spoken of his delight at the prospect
of teaming up with Alan Curbishley and Mervyn Day again.

The 47-year-old was appointed on to the coaching staff this week having left
his post at Southampton, and admits he can't wait to renew a working
relationship that first began at Charlton Athletic eight years ago.

"I'm very much looking forward to the challenge," says Glynn. "West Ham
United is a massive Club and I am delighted to have been offered this
opportunity.

"To work with Curbs and Merv again will be fantastic, because I have a lot
of respect for them both and enjoyed some great times with them when we
worked together previously.

"Obviously I was on a different level then as I worked with the reserve
team, but Curbs always had a keen interest in that side of things, and he
was very influential on me as I progressed as a coach.

"To team up with him again in the Premiership is a great honour and I hope
we can enjoy a lot of success together at West Ham United."

Having spent six years under Curbs at The Valley, the popular Yorkshireman
moved to Southampton as First Team Coach in March 2006, and admits he can't
wait for the challenge of working with top Premiership players at Upton
Park.

"I just love being out on the field, coaching and being involved with the
players," he says. "I like to keep the mood happy and positive, and have a
laugh with the lads, but at the same time push them to work hard and play to
their full potential.

"These are players at the very top of their profession, so it isn't so much
about coaching them technically, more just making sure they are confident,
motivated and enjoying their football.

"Man-management is very important, and the first requirement of any coach is
to get that mutual respect with the players. That builds the platform for a
good working relationship and hopefully means you can get the best out of
individuals."

And having enjoyed an 18-year playing career as a full-back with the likes
of Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United and Oldham Athletic,
Glynn also enjoyed a few playing appearances at Upton Park over the years,
recalling one particular Hammers opponent with a smile.

"I do remember a few tussles at West Ham down the years, especially with
Mark Ward!" he says. "Mark was a tough little winger and we had some good
battles. I always used to enjoy playing at Upton Park, though, because the
atmosphere was terrific and the fans were always so passionate.

"Hopefully, it will be just the same next season, with the team playing good
football and winning matches. I'm looking forward to being a part of that
and am very excited about the future here."

Mascherano wants Tevez reunion - Sky Sports
By Carla Hilton - Created on 28 Jun 2007

Javier Mascherano has urged his former team-mate Carlos Tevez to join him at
Liverpool.

Tevez looks certain to leave West Ham before the season starts and has been
strongly linked with a move to Internazionale this summer.

The duo, who are currently playing in the Copa America tournament, signed
for West Ham at the start of last season and it was Tevez' goal against
Manchester United that kept the Hammers in the Premier League for the coming
season.

Liverpool midfielder Mascherano believes the best move for his former
team-mate would be to remain in England and make the move to Anfield.

Mascherano told the Daily Star: "It would be nice to play with Carlos again.

"Right now we are together in the Copa America and it's great.

"We'll see what is going to happen before the start of next season."

Mascherano went on to praise Tevez, and although he feels he would be a
strong addition to the squad, admits the decision lies with boss Rafa
Benitez.

He added: "Carlos is a great player and he could be very useful to Liverpool
in my opinion.

"But the truth is that I would never dare to ask Rafa Benitez or any other
coach to bring a player to a club.

"If he asked me, I would tell him my opinion, but that's the only context in
which I would tell him what I think."

Neill urges quick start - Sky Sports
By Amanda Cornforth - Created on 28 Jun 2007

West Ham defender Lucas Neill is urging the side to be on the pace from the
outset next season to avoid a repeat of the last campaign.
The Hammers made a poor start last term but controversially avoided
relegation from the top flight on the final day of the season with a win
over champions Manchester United.
Australian international Neill believes Alan Curbishley's side, now owned by
Icelandic businessman Eggert Magnusson, need to be quick off the mark in
August to prevent themselves from again being embroiled in a battle to
retain their Premier League status.
"It's a long season," Neill said. "I don't think we're going to be the
champions but I think after the lessons we learned last year it's important
we get off to a good start.
"We have a chairman who has a dream, is a very ambitious guy and has very
powerful resources so, like a lot of clubs he'll be looking to spend some
money in the transfer market and hopefully him and the manager can bring in
good quality and we can look up rather than down."
Neill also reserved praise for Curbishley, who took over from Alan Pardew in
December and led the club to safety.
He added: "He's done a good job. He won seven out of the last nine games and
we have to see how cute he can be in the transfer market, bringing in good
quality in the transfer market without having to spend too much money.
"But it's all about the boys. If we start right we make his job easier, if
we don't straight away he's under pressure."
Neill's season will begin prior to the Premier League campaign as he will
feature for Australia in the Asian Cup in south-east Asia next month.

Davies denies Etherington link - Sky Sports
By Carla Hilton - Created on 28 Jun 2007

Derby boss Billy Davies has rubbished reports linking the club with a move
for West Ham winger Matthew Etherington.
Etherington has fallen out of favour under boss Alan Curbishley and had been
linked with a move to Pride Park following the Rams' promotion to the top
flight.
But Davies insists the rumours are incorrect and that Etherington is not on
his hit list.
"I can categorically say that, in the last day or so, I've had no contact
with Matthew Etherington or Matthew Etherington's agent," Davies told the
Derby Telegraph.
"I've got no idea where this story has come from but there's been no
discussion between myself and the player. I'm not sure how the papers have
come up with it.
"I've got a few irons in my fire but until things are totally concluded, I'm
not going to say much more.
"Negotiations take time.
"You can't wrap up deals quickly unless you spend silly amounts of money."

Will West Ham leave you rolling around in cash come next May? - WHO
Match Reporter - Wed Jun 27 2007

So could West Ham win the Premier League?

Well No but if you think stranger things have happened and fancy a flutter
then Skybet and Stan James give the value at 1000/1 whilst Corals and
Betfred are more cautious going only 300/1

So could West Ham blow it and get relegated?

Lets hope not but for those with their glass half empty the value lies with
Stan James at 10/1 but Bet Direct seem to think West Ham will struggle like
last season with their 4/1 quote.

West Ham to Win the league? Well without Chelsea and Man Utd anyway

Take those two out and Victor Chandler will give 125/1 that West Ham are the
next best. Bet365 and Boyles take no chances going only 50/1

Think we'll do worse then Derby?

Bet365 will give 66/1 that West Ham finish rock bottom

What if the league didn't have the Big 4? Nice idea

Would we win it then? Bet365 won't be taking the chance at 10/1. Ladbrokes
and Hill offer a more generous 16/1

Top or bottom?

Will West Ham finish in the top half or bottom half? Bet365 seem to think
it'll be the bottom half at 4/6 Disagree? 11/10 is your price

Top Scorer

Please, please, please, please be a West Ham player next season Carlos.
Tevez 40/1 (Skybet & Corals) he outscores the rest. That could well be the
bet of all time and the unthinkable happened and he ended up at one of the
top 4.

We hear Ashton is looking sharp and fit and 66/1 is a crazy price for a
player who will want to make up for lost time and force his way back into
the England team. Get on with Corals or Skybet

Of the rest Bobby Zamora is 250/1 with Skybet, a whole 100 points higher
then Marlon Harewood strangely.

Corals

Have made a nice little group bet up, West Ham are thrown in with

Blackburn 2/1
West Ham 9/4
Bolton 7/2
Man City 5/1
Reading 7/1

To come out on top

The good old sack race

If the Daily Star are to be believed we should all be rushing down to
Ladbrokes and taking the 20's about Alan Curbishley being the first manager
to leave his post

Better then 2006?

The old FA cup is many peoples betting favorite. Can we win it? Sure 80/1
with Sporting Odds is massive

How about the League Cup?

Will Alan Curbishley be the first West Ham manager to win the Carling Cup?
Totesport think it's a 40/1 chance. Ladbrokes only go half that price.

Money to burn?

Ladbroke have some specials to try and tempt the more foolish fan in

West Ham to win

The FA cup & Carling Cup 400/1
The Premier League & Carling cup 3000/1
The Premier League & FA cup 3000/1
The domestic treble 10,000/1

First day nerves?

The bookies don't think so. West Ham are odds on in most places to inflict
Sven's first defeat of the season, Coral break the ranks with an even money
quote. Sven to thief 3 point like it was the FA's money? 7/2

Freddie not ready to quit Gunners - TeamTalk

Freddie Ljungberg wants to stay at Arsenal for the rest of his career,
quashing speculation linking him with a move to Portsmouth or West Ham.
The 30-year-old had a disrupted 2006-07 season with his efforts to
re-establish himself as a regular in Arsene Wenger's side hampered by
injury.
With Wenger's emphasis on youth it appeared the Sweden midfielder might be
on the brink of a move away from the North London club - but his agent Claes
Elefalk is adamant Ljungberg wants to see out his playing days with Arsenal.
Elefalk told BBC Sport: "Freddie wants to stay at Arsenal until he stops
playing and there is a good chance that'll happen.
"This is just speculation. Freddie is most certainly not leaving Arsenal."
He continued: "Freddie has a contract with the club that goes until 2009 and
he has no thoughts at all of leaving the team.
"There has not been any contact with any other club, it is nonsense to
suggest otherwise.
"All this is is just normal, traditional transfer rumours that for players
of Freddie's calibre occurs each transfer window and has done so for the
last four years.
"Football is football, but Freddie wants to and will stay at Arsenal and
that is what we are dealing in."
The Gunners are enduring a difficult period after Thierry Henry's
£16.1million move to Barcelona prompted concern for the club's prospects
following the exit of former vice-chairman David Dein and the uncertainty
surrounding the future of Wenger.
However, Elefalk insists Ljungberg has complete faith in the future of the
club.
"Freddie is very confident about what the future holds at Arsenal, despite
Thierry leaving," said Elefalk.
"He is very confident in the team and the club and in Mr Wenger, so it is a
very good situation to be in."

£9m to keep Tevez for year - thisislondon.co.uk
28.06.07

West Ham have launched a desperate bid to keep Carlos Tevez in an
astonishing £9million one-year loan deal.
They have offered the Argentina striker a £6m salary - £115,000 a week - but
would have to pay his 'owner' Kia Joorabchian up to £3m in a loan fee.
Manager Alan Curbishley and chairman Eggert Magnusson are desperate to keep
Tevez, who almost singlehandedly ensured West Ham's survival in the
Premiership last season.
The £6m-a-year offer would make Tevez the highest paid player at Upton Park.
But by paying him wages which would put him in the same bracket as Chelsea
stars Michael Ballack and Andriy Shevchenko, West Ham hope to convince him
to snub offers from Inter and Real Madrid, both of whom are ready to pay
Joorabchian £30m.
The Hammers have had a disappointing time trying to sign players, which has
raised speculation over Curbishley's future.
Keeping Tevez would go a long way to persuading the board that they have the
right manager.
So far Darren Bent has snubbed a £75,000-a-week deal and Mark Viduka and
Joey Barton have also turned them down.
Even signing £6.5m Scott Parker from Newcastle cost them £75,000 a week.
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is considering a £3m bid for Hammers
striker Marlon Harewood after being thwarted in his attempts to sign Fredi
Kanoute and Yakubu.
He said: "If he could get 15 goals, he'd be a snip.

Shorey set to stick with Reading - thisislondon.co.uk
28.06.07

Nicky Shorey will snub Newcastle and West Ham by signing a new contract at
Reading.
The left-back is expected to agree a £25,000-a-week deal after returning
from honeymoon on Monday.
Shorey, who grew up near West Ham's training ground in Chadwell Heath and
has family connections with the club, had previously admitted being linked
with clubs such as West Ham is flattering.
"I've been happy at Reading for a long time now but we'll just have to see
what happens," said Shorey in the Reading Evening Post. "I'm going into the
talks wanting to sort out my future with the club because I've done well at
Reading."
He added: "Interest from those clubs is definitely flattering.
"I've always wanted to do as well as I can and when you do well, speculation
will always be there. To be honest, though, I can never say never."
Reading's only signing of the transfer window so far has been Kalifa Cisse
from Boavista.

Villa ready to make fresh £7m bid for Reo-Coker - thisislondon.co.uk
28.06.07

Martin O'Neill is launching a fresh £7m bid for West Ham skipper Nigel
Reo-Coker.
This comes as Manchester City have upped their interest in Reo-Coker despite
O'Neill's summer-long pursuit.
Eastlands manager-in-waiting Sven-Goran Eriksson is reported to want the
England under-21 star after the Hammers rejected Villa's initial bid.
O'Neill is confident he can rush through a deal for the 23-year-old who is
heading off on holiday tomorrow.
Villa report for pre-season training next week and Reo-Coker, who cost West
Ham £575,000 in 2004, is believed to be very keen to make the switch.
He is also very keen to leave Upton Park with new signing Scott Parker ready
to replace him.

Hammers handed winger boost - EatSleepSport.Com
Thu, Jun 28 2007 10:39

West Ham have been boosted by the news Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips
is set to snub a return to Manchester City this summer. The England
international's first-team chances at Stamford Bridge look to be limited
although he did get a decent run towards the end of last season.
West Ham have been strongly linked with a swoop for the 25-year-old while
City also reportedly want to re-sign the player they sold to the Blues for
£21m two summers ago.
However, Wright-Phillips' adoptive father, former Arsenal ace Ian Wright,
claims his son does not fancy being managed by forthcoming City boss
Sven-Goran Eriksson following a short spell under him with the national
side.
"No, it's not happening," Wright told Talksport. "I know he loves Manchester
City. Whether he loves Manchester City with Sven in charge is another story.
"It hasn't gone as well as he would have liked at Chelsea, everyone knows
that. But he has to see how his options go, see what he's going to do with
Chelsea for a start.
"But I would categorically say the chances of Shaun going back to City, with
Eriksson as their manager, are very, very slim. Majorly slim in fact."

Aussie ace confirms Hammers snub- EatSleepSport.Com
Thu, Jun 28 2007 09:15

Striker Mark Viduka has admitted that he was tempted to join West Ham this
close-season, but in the end opted for Newcastle United. The 31-year-old
Australian international defected to the Magpies from north-east rivals
Middlesbrough this month and is desperate to make a big impact on Tyneside,
but he revealed that he turned down the opportunity to join the Hammers.
His fellow countryman and West Ham full-back Lucas Neill admitted that he
did all he could to lure the former Leeds and Celtic forward down to Upton
Park. However Viduka, who is currently preparing for Australia's Asian Cup
campaign, said: "I have been on my holidays, but what is happening at
Newcastle is exciting.
"We have new owners and it looks very promising. West Ham was tempting but
in the end, I chose Newcastle."

Jermain man! - Newham Recorder
27 June 2007

It may not be the most popular piece of news for every West Ham fan, but
Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe is being lined up for a dramatic return to
Upton Park.

The 24-year-old striker left Upton Park in 2004 under a cloud after firstly,
asking for a move the day after the Hammers had suffered relegation and
then, by going to deadly rivals Spurs.

But manager Alan Curbishley, who has so far drawn a blank in his hunt for a
top class forward to partner Dean Ashton, knows just how potent a striker
Defoe is.

The chances of getting Defoe, who has 24 full England caps and three goals,
are reliant on Darren Bent's move from Charlton to Spurs going through.

Bent, who turned down a £17million move to West Ham, is set to join Martin
Jol at White Hart Lane and that would leave the door open for Defoe's
return.

He may take a little while to win the fans over again, but a few goals can
work wonders on the hardest of supporters.

Meanwhile, Curbishley has appointed former Charlton man Glynn Snodin as his
new first team coach.

Snodin worked under the West Ham boss at the Valley, but he will come to
Upton Park from his job as first team coach under George Burley at
Southampton.

The move leaves a question mark over the future of both Keith Peacock and
Kevin Keen at the club, with the former set to leave Upton Park, while the
latter may return to coaching the reserve team in place of Steve Brown.

West Ham return for pre-season training on Monday.

The 23-year-old is currently working with former West Ham physio John

Ashton is hoping to make the West Ham pre-season trip to Austria in July

Hammers' girl power
By Guardian-series

NEW West Ham United Ladies first team manager Tony Marshall took time out
from his busy pre-season preparations to cast his eye over some of the
club's younger players in the Brentwood tournament.
The Hammers entered teams from three different age groups and two of the
West Ham sides came out on top.
The U16's beat the highly-rated north Kent side Long Lane in a thoroughly
entertaining final.
advertisement
And the the U12's were victors over Enfield Town in their final. The U14's
fell at the semi-final stage to local rivals Barking.
Marshall was very impressed with the club's youngsters who will hopefully be
pushing for places in the clubs senior teams over the next few seasons.
He said: "While I will be busy with the senior players this season I am not
going to forget the club's junior sides.
"They are our future and I will be aiming to get to as many junior games as
I can.
"It wasn't our strongest U16 side at the Brentwood tournament, but all of
the girls worked hard and gave me a lot of food for thought for the coming
season.
"Our new U16 manager Wayne Collier led the side for the first time, and got
off to a superb start.
"I am confident that Wayne will be ideal to help push the girls through to
the next level. Our other two sides also did very well today.
"Jim Maycock has been looking after our U12 side during the summer and his
team certainly were a credit to him. I will be watching the progress of that
group with great interest over the next few years.
"Our U14's also did well, but full credit to the Barking girls.
"They deserved their win and it was a valuable lesson to our junior teams in
that, throughout the Essex Girls League, the Hammers are a big name and
quite often the opposing team will treat a match against West Ham as a cup
final."
Marshall is also very excited about the forthcoming campaign and reports
that his preparations are going very well. He added: "The seniors report
back for serious training next week but the existing squad have proved to me
in the trials that last season's League placing was not a true reflection of
their ability.
"I also have a few new signings in the pipeline and hopefully should be able
to make an announcement about that in the next few weeks.
"Also, with some of our U16s coming of age this season and likely to step up
to the reserves, the club certainly has a promising future"

Pre-season sell-out at the Daggers.

The Hammers begin their pre-season matches in England on July 14th, but
already, the first of them has sold out.

West Ham will be playing before a sell out crowd at Dagenham & Redbridge's
Victoria Road ground on that day, and it is as much a celebration for the
Daggers finally gaining promotion to the Football League as anything else,
but no doubt both teams will be taking it fairly seriously. For the others
matches, tickets are in limited numbers for Hammers' fans, and as O.T.T.
predicted, most of them will go the way of the Dagenham match and also sell
out.
Leyton Orient, who are played on July 24th, have made just over 3,500
tickets available, prices between £15 and £20, with reductions for kids
under 16 and senior citizens. The game against the MK Dons (now managed by
Paul Ince, following the departure of Martin Allen to Leicester City) is the
following day, but ticket details have not yet been finslied; this is one
that may not sell out... For Southend on July 28th, an allocation of 2,100
tickets at £20 (£10 for kids and senior citizens) has been given. Norwich
have given us only 500 tickets for the game on July 31st, though they are
only £12 (£7 seniors and £3 for kids).
Finally, a home game against Italian side, AS Roma, has been arranged for
August 4th, with tickets ranging from £9 to £15 for adults, £4.50 to £7.50
for seniors and young adults {16 - 21}), and £1 for kids.
The players flew out to Austria today (June 28th), to begin pre-season
preparations.

Curbishley brings in coach Snodin - BBC Sport

Curbishley worked with Snodin at Charlton
Glynn Snodin has been appointed West Ham's first-team coach.
Snodin, 47, worked with Hammers boss Alan Curbishley at Charlton before
joining Southampton as their first-team coach just over a year ago.
Saints boss George Burley said: "It's very disappointing to lose Glynn who
is a smashing lad. He was very popular and will be a big miss for us.
"But he has the opportunity to go to the Premiership and feels this is an
opportunity he could not turn down."
Burley added: "He has done well for us but this is a chance for him to work
with a first-team in the Premiership and he felt the offer was right for him
and his family." West Ham have agreed a compensation package for Snodin, who
recently greed to take a part-time role to coach the Northern Ireland side
alongside Nigel Worthington.

Sno-din! - KUMB

By: Gordon Thrower

United have announced the arrival of Glyn Snodin as first team coach.
The 47 year-old, whose playing career encompassed spells at the top level
with Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United, has joined the club from
Southampton, though Alan Curbishley will be more familiar with the former
defender's work from the six year spell they spent together at Charlton,
where Snodin was Reserve team boss. It is believed that Snodin will continue
in his part-time role as Northern Ireland coach as assistant to new boss
Nigel Worthington.
It appears that major changes may be afoot amongst the coaching and
technical staff as the Club today promised that "further announcements"
would follow "in due course".

Harry eyes Harewood swoop - The Sun
By MIKE ANSTEAD
June 27, 2007

PORTSMOUTH have emerged as frontrunners for wantaway West Ham striker Marlon
Harewood.
Pompey boss Harry Redknapp has revealed he is eyeing a swoop for the Hammers
hitman, who is ready to leave Upton Park after four years.
Redknapp is desperate for more firepower up front with Kanu yet to commit
his future to the club.
David Nugent remains a top target for Pompey but £3.5million-rated Harewood,
27, is now on their wanted list.
Redknapp said: "I've been keeping an eye on Marlon. I like him - he's
strong, quick and powerful.
"He's a real handful on his day and most of all, can definitely get you
goals in the Premier League. If he could get 15 goals again, he'd be a snip.
"He's not really expensive, just above £3m is not crazy money. It looks real
value. I'm just looking everywhere at the moment."
Birmingham recently had a £2m bid for Harewood rejected by Hammers boss Alan
Curbishley. Manchester City, Fulham and Aston Villa are also keeping an eye
on the situation.

Shorey set for Royals talks - The Sun
By MIKE ANSTEAD
June 27, 2007

NICKY SHOREY has revealed he is ready to commit his future to Reading
despite "flattering" interest from Newcastle and West Ham.
The £5million-rated England left-back is set to discuss a new contract as
the Royals attempt to stave off big money bids.
Shorey was instrumental in Reading's superb debut season in the Premier
League and earned an international call-up for friendly with Brazil earlier
this month.
He said: "I've been happy at Reading for a long time now but we'll just have
to see what happens.
"I'm going into the talks wanting to sort out my future with the club
because I've done well at Reading.
"I've gone through the divisions with them and my time here really couldn't
have gone better. Reading will always be special to me no matter what
happens.
"I'll always think of them as my club and in my time here it has just been
success after success and hopefully that will continue.
"I got my opportunity with England by playing at Reading and that's a credit
to the club.
"It also shows that you can play for a so-called smaller club and still get
recognised for England."
Shorey has admitted that interest from Newcastle and West Ham has caught his
eye.
He added: "Interest from those clubs is definitely flattering.
"I've always wanted to do as well as I can and when you do well, speculation
will always be there.
"To be honest, though, I can never say never. Football is one of those
sports where people move around all the time but you just can't know if
rumours like that are true or not."

Argentine international Tevez, 23, said: "There is a very good chance I will

"I am also wanted by Real Madrid and some other clubs in England but I have

"My agent knows how I feel and hopefully he can sort something out."
Now Tevez hopes Inter will match the £20million compensation demands of his

Transfer snub spark doubts over Curbishley's future - thisislondon.co.uk
27.06.07

Alan Curbishley's West Ham future is under threat despite last season's
escape from relegation.
Curbishley appeared to have cemented his position at Upton Park after
keeping the Hammers in the Premiership but there is a growing feeling within
the club that he may not be the manager to lead their challenge for top six
honours.

The Daily Star reports that West Ham's Icelandic owners are understood to be
concerned at top players not wanting to join the club.
Main summer target Darren Bent snubbed a move after meeting with Curbishley
and chief executive Scott Duxbury.
And Carlos Tevez, the player who scored the goal at Old Trafford that kept
West Ham in the Premier League, would be happy to stay but reports suggest
he also doubts Curbishley's methods.
Senior players have also voiced their concerns to chairman Eggert Magnusson
and the club look doomed to lose Yossi Benayoun despite agreeing a
£50,000-a-week deal with the Israel international.
Magnusson has backed Curbishley so far this summer but is reported to be
frustrated at the lack of new faces.
Scott Parker has joined but Bent, Mark Viduka and Joey Barton have all opted
for other clubs.
The Hammers return for pre-season training next week with virtually the same
squad Curbishley threatened to axe after spending much of last season
fighting the drop.

Will West Ham's Bubble Burst Under Magnusson And Curbishley? -
Caughtoffside.com
Posted on Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Mr. C casts a doubtful eye at West Ham from the top down, and not just
because he supports Tottenham.
My late father once described West Ham as my old Aunt Mae: "You don't like
her very much but you are forced see her at least twice a year." Whilst my
hatred of West Ham never matched the levels of my dad's I've always wondered
why Tottenham and Hammers' fans care so much about each others' club. Let's
face it, they are hardly in the same ball park when it comes to prestige.
West Ham are a well-supported club and I have a great deal of respect at the
way they follow their side through thick and thin. Like Spurs they have had
to put up with a great deal of mediocrity over the years but having not won
a trophy for 27 years you can hardly blame me for questioning Hammers fans
who try and seek parity with your more illustrious rival, who, despite a
lean spell, have still managed to win five trophies and appear in another
three finals since that famous Trevor Brooking header back in 1980.
West Ham have never really been a threat to my Tottenham in any shape or
form. Yes, they have had their moments back in the league in 1984 and the
2006 Cup Final but in truth, all West Ham have ever had to shout about is
stopping Manchester United winning the title back in 1995, or preventing
Tottenham from achieving a Champions League spot. It reminds me of the days
when a draw against Arsenal was the highlight of our season.
Surely West Ham supporters have deserved better than this?
I don't think any football fan in the country would have experienced the
highs and lows that West Ham fans had in the last 12months. Who could have
foreseen that after witnessing that epic final in Cardiff, that they would
go on to have a season which would see them having to win seven of their
last nine Premiership games in order to save themselves from relegation, a
staggering feat considering all the turmoil that came before it.
Much has been said with regards to where it all went wrong for West Ham last
season. Certain players were criticised, including Nigel Reo Coker, Javier
Mascherano and Carlos Tevez. To be fair to Eggert Magnusson if I had a
manager who thought Marlon Harewood and Hayden Mullins were better than the
Argentinians, I think I would have sacked him too. But I wonder if the
removal of Alan Pardew is the only correct decision that Magnusson has made
since he arrived.
There is no doubt in my mind that the uncertainty surrounding the eventual
takeover was the real reason the club had such a poor season. History has
proved that clubs who are embroiled in high-profile takeovers tend to
struggle on the pitch. Magnusson is very lucky that Alan Curbishley was able
to keep them in the Premiership. Now the club is safe, are Magnusson and
Curbs really the dream ticket to take West Ham to the top? As a Spurs man
should I be worried?
Magnusson has a huge chequebook and is willing to pay crazy money for
players and, despite what he says, crazy wages too. But with the likes of
Yossi Benayoun having his head turned, Darren Bent and others rejecting the
club is there a bit of doubt seeping into that optimism that the club would
now be able to attract top players rather than just a bunch of mercenaries
who only come for the money? I'm not being funny but Matt Upson, Lucas
Neill, Luis Boa Morte and Scott Parker are hardly world beaters and you have
to question whether these types of signings are going to turn West Ham into
a side capable of challenging for major honours. It could be a case of
laying the groundwork and building slowly from last season, or it could be
that Curbishley and Magnusson are only capable of creating a glorified
Charlton.
When Gerry Francis was first appointed manager at Spurs back in 1994 he
inherited a fantastic squad which boasted the likes of Jurgen Klinsmann and
Nicky Barmby who were instrumental in turning round the poor start we had
under Ossie Ardiles into a season which saw us nearly reach Europe on two
fronts. However come the summer of 1995 that squad was decimated with the
likes of Klinsmann moving on and it was up to Francis to replace them. Given
his limited experience in the transfer market during his career at QPR, he
struggled to adapt which ended in us signing woefully average players like
Chris Armstrong, Andy Sinton, Ruel Fox, John Scales, Clive Wilson and most
painfully Ramon Vega. Alan Curbishley seems to be having similar problems in
adapting to the high end of the transfer market, as even his own fans are
doubting his ability to convince transfer targets of the new Hammer dawn.
Curbishley will always be endeared by West Ham fans that rightly look upon
him as one of their own. A self-confessed Hammer fan and player, he was the
easy choice for the new chairman as he tried to appease the disgruntled fans
following Pardew's sacking.
I get the gut feeling that Magnusson, who has already confessed this summer
his frustrations in the transfer market, is not the type of man to be
patient and I see muddy waters ahead if Curbishley has a bad start to the
season.
Curbishley claims that the target for next season will be a mid-table
finish. I'm guessing that Eggert and his moneymen have other ideas - West
Ham fans deserve success but will Magnusson and Curbs be that dream ticket?
I have serious doubts.

Paper View: Curbs walking Hammers' tightrope - Daily Telegraph
By Vicki Hodges
Last Updated: 9:52am BST 27/06/2007

Drama at West Ham again and it has nothing to do with the impending result
of the arbitration hearing into the Carlos Tevez affair.

As the mystery concerning where the diminutive striker will be plying his
trade next season gathers pace, fears have been raised concerning another
individual's future at Upton Park.
'CURBS AXE FEAR' cries out the Daily Star's back page which reveals how the
Hammers manager is walking a tightrope just seven months after being brought
to the club by Icelandic owner Eggert Magnusson.
According to the story there is "a growing feeling that he might not be the
man to turn the club into top-six contenders".
Magnusson's fears have reportedly been raised by Alan Curbishley's failure
to attract top players to the club this summer.
Darren Bent turned down the chance to reunite with his former Charlton boss
while Joey Barton and Mark Viduka snubbed moves to London to join Big Sam at
St James's.
If that wasn't bad enough, Wayne Bridge looks likely to become the next
"big" name to reject the chance to become an eastender.
'WAYNE: I'LL BE NO 1 AT BRIDGE' is another story featured in the Star
claiming the England defender will fight for his place at Chelsea rather
than join West Ham in a £6 million deal.
Bridge's team-mate Shaun Wright-Phillips - another player who has caught the
eye of West Ham since the turn of the year - is wanted by former club
Manchester City.
The Sun's 'SHIN WRIGHT-PHILIPS: FRANK PLANS £10M SWOOP' says that
prospective new owner Thaksin Shinawatra, or 'Frank' to his mates, will
launch his "revolution" at City by luring the speedy winger back to
Eastlands.
Over at Premiership new-boys Birmingham and Steve Bruce is ready to launch a
£2m bid to land Juventus' Olivier Kapo, says the Daily Mirror.
Bruce was originally keen on signing the midfielder on loan before interest
from Spanish clubs pushed the Brum boss into making the switch more
permanent.
The story adds that "the news will be a blow to a couple of Premiership
rivals who were hoping to take him on loan too, but Birmingham's swift
action left them for dead".
It remains to be seen which other clubs were keen on the Frenchman. West Ham
perchance?

West Ham wait on Ashton compensation - VitalFootball

When Dean Ashton was injured on international duty last summer, West Ham
immediately put in a claim for the FA to cover his wages according to the
Guardian. although the FA have made a 'goodwill' payment of £300,000 the
Deano's wages for the year now amount to £1.25million. The Hammers are
looking for another £1million renumeration.

The England team's insurers have yet to hear the case despite regular
medical updates from West Ham. The reports suggest that the board are
frustrated by the delay.

The FA now have some spare cash as Sven Goran-Eriksson's contract runs out,
a year after leaving his post as national team coach. However, they will
receive a nasty financial shock if Sven's replacement, Steve MacClaren,
fails to guide England to Euro 2008.

West Ham turn to Bolton skipper Nolan - tribalfootball.com
tribalfooball.com - June 27, 2007

Bolton Wanderers captain Kevin Nolan is emerging as a big money target for
West Ham United.

The Bolton Evening News says Nolan could be a transfer target for West Ham
if the Hammers finally decide to cash in on their unsettled skipper, Nigel
Reo-Coker.
Hammers boss, Alan Curbishley, is a known admirer of the Wanderers skipper
and sees him as the ideal candidate to fill the gap if Reo-Coker, as
expected, leaves Upton Park.
That seems increasingly likely with Manchester City joining Aston Villa in
the race for the £10million-rated England U21 international.

Bridge snubs Hammers - The Daily Mail

Konchesky, who is wanted by Birmingham.

Hammers' cash gripe - The Guardian
Matt Scott
Wednesday June 27, 2007

West Ham United are still waiting for almost £1m in compensation the club
believe they are owed for the broken ankle Dean Ashton suffered while on
England duty last August. The Hammers immediately lodged a claim to the
Football Association seeking payment for Ashton's wages for the duration of
his spell out of the game.
The £7.5m striker was unable to play throughout the Premiership club's
relegation fight last season and the wages paid now amount to £1.25m. The
FA, in what it considers a gesture of goodwill, has made a £300,000 payment
to West Ham in advance of the case's consideration by the England team's
insurers but underwriters, although they have received regular medical
updates from the Hammers, have yet to reach a decision and the east London
club's board is believed to be growing frustrated by the delay.

Now Gomes Could Be A Go Go For West Ham - westhamfans.org
Submitted by Neville Nixon
27 June, 2007 - 10:07.

Of course it is the silly season but West Ham have apparently tabled a bid
for Benfica playmaker Portugese International Nuno Gomes. With Yossi
Benayoun attracting the interest of 'Svensism' as well as Liverpool the need
for a 'crafter' has become vital.. There is a certain irony attached to this
rumour, Hammers attempting to sign an International midfield general,
someone who can play at the highest level and someone who can grace the game
with their guile and intuition, now where does that seem familiar? You see
where this is going, if West Ham were unable to find room in the team to
incorporate Javier Mascherano, choosing to play Hayden Mullins and Nigel
Quashie instead, how on earth is Gomes to slot in?..Given Curbs dislike of
'foreigners' it would seem inappropriate to go for another 'fish out of
water'.. It does take time for any player to adapt, but at £3 Million Gomes
could represent a quick fix in the midfield creativity area, a certain Mark
Noble would do his level best to ensure that the cultured Gomes wasn't
'roughed up' by opposition enforcers.. Supporters of a certain age will
remember when 'Sir Trev' was fouled by the opposition, he would look across
to Bonzo, within a minute or two the 'offender' would be duly dispatched
into the hoardings by a certain Mr Bonds, who would then give his crumpled
victim a look as if to say "how dare you try to crunch our boy?".. Culture
and aggression on the pitch rarely mix, but a good team needs a cerebral
presence in midfield, and who would you rather see, Bowyer or Gomes? - Ed

West Ham United are delighted to confirm that Glynn Snodin is to join the
Club as First Team Coach.

Glynn, 47, is leaving his post as First Team Coach at Championship side
Southampton to team up again with Alan Curbishley, whom he worked under as
Reserve Team Coach at Charlton Athletic for six years.

The former Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United defender
will begin work in his new role on Monday (July 2), when the players return

Coach recently.

Manager Alan Curbishley says: "I am delighted to welcome Glynn to West Ham
United and I am sure he will become a valuable member of the coaching staff
here.

"Glynn worked with me at Charlton for six years, during which time he led

the Club, both as a coach and a person.

"I look forward to starting work with him again on Monday and wish him a
long and successful career at West Ham United."

Further announcements regarding the coaching and backroom staff at Upton

Benayoun still waiting - Sky Sports
By Graeme Bailey - Created on 26 Jun 2007

Yossi Benayoun is still hoping he can secure a move to Liverpool.
The West Ham midfielder has agreed a new deal with the club, but Liverpool
have mounted a bid for his services.
Because of Liverpool's interest, Benayoun's new contract remains unsigned.
The player's agent Ronen Katzav admits that Benayoun's future is still not
decided.
"We are still waiting," Katzav told skysports.com.
"The deal is still in place with West Ham. We are waiting to see if the two
clubs can come to an agreement.
"I am not going to say Yossi is desperate for a move at all, but it is only
natural - any player in the world would be attracted by Liverpool."
Reports have also suggested that Sven Goran Eriksson could make a move for
Benayoun, if he takes charge at Manchester City.

Arsenal interest excites Tevez - Sky Sports
By Mark Buckingham - Created on 26 Jun 2007

Carlos Tevez admits he is 'excited' by the possibility of interest from
Arsenal.
The striker is considering his future, with West Ham United hoping to hang
on to the Argentine after his influential end to last season.
He has been linked with Real Madrid and Internazionale, and has also
suggested he is looking to join a big club over the summer.
Rumours have now claimed that Arsenal could move for Tevez following the
departure of captain Thierry Henry to Barcelona.
Tevez, who is on Copa America duty with Argentina, concedes he would relish
the chance of a move to Emirates Stadium as he is keen to stay in the
Premier League.
"I know people are now talking about Arsenal and obviously that is something
I am excited about," said Tevez in the Sun.
"It's another big club and the good thing is I wouldn't have to move out of
London. I also already know English football and I like it.
"Arsenal's style is more technical than physical, so I could fit in no
problem.
"My transfer is being talked about a lot. It's beautiful to be wanted by
various clubs."
Meanwhile, Tevez told Gazzetta dello Sport that he would plump for Inter
ahead of Real, if he was given the choice.
He said: "Inter is a great club. There is a true possibility that I will
wear the Nerazzurri colours next season.
"It's also true that Real Madrid are interested in my services, but my agent
knows exactly how I feel about it - better Inter than Real."

Hammers' Tevez keen on switch to Inter Milan - Soccernet

West Ham striker Carlos Tevez admits there is a strong possibility he will
move to Inter Milan this summer.

The Argentinian international, who is currently preparing for the Copa
America with his country, moved to Upton Park from Brazilian side
Corinthians at the start of last term along with international team-mate
Javier Mascherano.
In a season marred by controversy over the legality of the duo's transfer,
23-year-old Tevez ended on a high by scoring crucial goals to preserve the
Hammers' top-flight status - in the process attracting the attention of a
host of top clubs.
Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been linked
with a move for Tevez, but the South American favours a switch to Italy.
'Inter is a great club,' Tevez told Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello
Sport.
'There is a true possibility that I will wear the Nerazzurri colours next
season.
'It's also true that Real Madrid are interested in my services but my agent
knows exactly how I feel about it - better Inter than Real.'
Speculation that Tevez would leave West Ham increased after he preserved the
club's Premiership status by hitting the winning goal against Manchester
United on the final day of last season.
And the player admits that his fine end-of-season form came as no surprise,
revealing that he felt at home in the claret and blue shirt.
'I didn't have problems adapting at West Ham,' Tevez continued.
'I didn't speak English but nevertheless I made myself understood on the
pitch.'
Despite his claim that the language barrier did not hamper his start to life
in England, Tevez admits playing alongside compatriots Hernan Crespo, Julio
Cruz and Javier Zanetti at the San Siro would make for a smooth transition
to life in Serie A.
'Inter's team is like an Argentina colony,' he added.
'I wouldn't have language issues at Inter.'

Looking For Goals - WHO
Alex V - Tue Jun 26 2007

West Ham need a top striker, and maybe they need two. By telling Harewood to
leave, Curbishley has basically set his sights on a top-quality striking
partnership at the club. But by my calculations we have one top striker just
off crutches, and another courting the top clubs in Europe for a transfer.
Where does Curbishley find his goal machine?

Obviously everybody wants Tevez to stay - presumably we have made him and
his 'advisors' know that we will match or even beat any offer for his
services. But when the rumoured suitors for his signature are clubs like
Real Madrid, Man Utd, Arsenal and Inter Milan, then the prospects for us
don't look too smart. The only reason that Tevez would stay is because of
the bond forged between him and the supporters, and possibly financially
because either the 'right' contracts couldn't be arranged with other clubs,
or that another year might be a way to make a lot of money out of West Ham
and still get the big sale at the end of next season. If he was obviously
going to move clubs then I think we'd know it by now - there must be a
chance he will stay. But if I was him, I wouldn't.

If he goes then we have a hell of a big hole to fill in the squad, but even
if he stays we must strengthen the striking department to stand any chance
of really making a splash in the league next season. We have Ashton, and
fingers crossed he is the player he was before his injury. Zamora and Cole
look likely to still be around - I think Zamora would be encouraged to leave
though if we are busy in the transfer market. I think basically that we need
one top striker if Tevez stays - if he goes we need TWO!

The players that we have been solidly linked with point to a certain
strategy from Curbishley - he wants proven Premiership strikers, players for
whom a certain level of performance is closer to being guaranteed. I totally
agree with this approach - too many clubs have spent big money on
foreign-based players with a lot of ability who have totally failed to
perform in this league. Or taken a year to settle in, as Tevez did.

There's no doubt that Darren Bent was the absolutely obvious choice for us
this Summer - missing out on him is a big blow. It's easy to say that he
wasn't worth £18 million, but given that there are no obvious options
elsewhere to buy a proven top-quality Premiership striker then it was a
no-brainer for West Ham. But he didn't come. Everton wouldn't sell Johnson,
Defoe scotched the idea in public pretty quickly. Suddenly Curbishley's
options look distinctly limited.

Craig Bellamy seems to be a player who comes with a lot of baggage - when
someone as tight-lipped as Shearer breaks ranks to criticise him then you
know there is something in the rumour that he is a very difficult
personality to deal with. There is absolutely no doubt that on the field,
playing at his best, Bellamy is a brilliant striker. It's the affect he may
have on the dressing room that will be putting Curbishley off, and ours is a
dressing room that proved pretty fragile last season. Maybe best left alone
I think, though I suspect Curbishley knows that he is an option and may turn
to him if other paths leads nowhere.

David Nugent is more of an option - we are rumoured to be one of the clubs
who have talked to the player. I think Nugent's scoring record is
fascinating given that when you watch him play he doesn't really seem to
have any great attributes to his game - not great in the air, and no great
pace or strength. The fact that he scores a lot of goals makes me think he's
a clever player, and he has age on his side. Any player brought in from that
level is a gamble, but of course Ashton was shunned as a prospect for many
years by Premiership scouts. If there is money to spare then I think we
would be wise to consider him as a purchase, but as a prospect not as the
finished article - he certainly can't be expected to be in the class of Bent
or Tevez.

Other than that, in this country, who could we buy? I don't see another
option really. Any other available prospect in this country seems unable to
improve us - the next best option may in fact be to keep Harewood! There are
a number of long-shot purchases that Curbishley may already have enquired
about - Yakubu at Middlesbrough, Martins at Newcastle, Anelka at Bolton,
McCarthy at Blackburn - but surely the clubs won't be selling those without
a fight to the death. One little outside shot might be Crouch at Liverpool,
if he could be persuaded to come.

But other than that Curbishley has to look abroad, and any signing comes
with a 'gamble' label attached. Ryan Babel looked awesome in the Under-21
tournament this Summer, and has already pledged himself to an Arsenal
future, typical! I certainly doubt how clued up Curbishley is about the
foreign market, he wasn't a big spender in that way at Charlton, I think he
will be relying on our scouts. Given that we are willing to splash the cash
on wages, I wonder if there isn't a big name perhaps the wrong side of 30
who could come in for a season and perform.

But unless something inspirational turns up elsewhere, I think Curbishley
will end up settling for a domestic player or players that don't quite fit
the bill. Nugent, at £6 million-ish, would be a safe signing for a good
prospect who could turn out to be a great one, but Curbishley would be
buying him thinking that he would prefer him on the bench. Let's hope that
something inspirational turns up, if he's called Tevez then all the better
:)

Reo-Coker back on Villa radar - TeamTalk

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill will this week attempt to resurrect his
attempt to sign West Ham midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker.
Villa have made contact with the Hammers and, although no formal bid has
been made, are understood to be ready to pay £7million for the England
Under-21 captain.
West Ham are looking for a larger offer for the player they bought from
Wimbledon for just £500,000 three and a half years ago.
But reports indicating they want £10-12million for Reo-Coker are believed to
be wide of the mark, with £8-9million a more realistic figure.
The 23-year-old, who led England to the semi-finals in the European Under-21
Championships in Holland earlier this month, has made it clear his days at
Upton Park are numbered.
Villa report back for pre-season training on July 4 and O'Neill is keen to
start bringing in new blood sooner rather than later with the war chest
promised him by owner Randy Lerner.
He wants time to blend any newcomers in with his current squad after having
only two weeks' preparation time last summer following his arrival as David
O'Leary's successor in early August.
But the Irishman is aware he could face competition from Manchester City for
Reo-Coker if Sven-Goran Eriksson takes charge at Eastlands.
O'Neill has already lost the services of one experienced midfielder in Gavin
McCann to Bolton, while there is a question mark over the future of Steven
Davis, who has been linked with a move to Fulham alongside former Northern
Ireland boss Lawrie Sanchez.
Fringe midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba's days at Villa are also numbered, with
Benfica reportedly interested in the former Manchester United player, who
ended last season on loan at Burnley.

The Merry Go Round Includes Tevez And Gudjonsson For West Ham -
westhamfans.org
Submitted by Neville Nixon on 26 June, 2007 - 14:11.

Eidur Gudjonsson is the latest name to be thrown into the transfer merry go
round situation as it has been made clear to the player that his future is
no longer with Barcelona following the arrival of Thierry Henry from
Arsenal. Without wanting to appear negative, recent reports continue to link
Carlos Tevez with moves to virtually every big club in Europe, and while it
pains me to say it, it is beginning to seem increasingly unlikely that the
Apache will be at the Boleyn next season.. Now it will not be a tragedy if
Carlitos does move on, and despite Mr Magnusson's protestations that the
Argentine hit man will be playing for the Hammers next season it does seem
that the writing is on the wall and that he will be off to Inter or AN
other! Gudjonsson would welcome a return to the Premiership but would
obviously prefer to go to a team that is in Europe, but his stock isn't
exactly high at the moment. Arsenal could be in for the Icelandic, but the
Icelandic theme might just be the key. Having talked a 'good enough game' to
lure Lucas Neill away from Blackburn and getting him to choose West Ham
ahead of Liverpool in the process, Eggert Magnusson might just be able to
swing the deal.. Of course Carlos Tevez might stay at the Boleyn for at
least another season, but it would be imprudent for manager and owner alike
to not have set up some form of contingency plan in case things go belly
up? - Ed

Hammers target in demand - SkySports
By Tom Adams - Created on 26 Jun 2007

Reports in Portugal claim that Lazio could be ready to rival West Ham for
the signature of Nuno Gomes.
The Portuguese international has spent five years at Benfica but the club
and player are believed to be considering a potential exit this summer.
Gomes recently admitted he was ready for an 'English adventure', and any
potential interest from Upton Park could have been strengthened after Darren
Bent's decision to snub The Hammers.
However, Portuguese daily Record reports that Serie A side Lazio are also in
the hunt for the striker who will turn 31 in July.
Gomes spent two years with Fiorentina between 2000 and 2002, before their
bankruptcy, and could be offered a return to Italy with the Rome club.
Benfica are expected to decide on the striker's future during a meeting
later in the week.

Preston striker David Nugent is still keen on a switch to Everton despite
having two other bids accepted for him.Everton boss David Moyes has been
linked with the player for the past 18 months but he has made no move during
the close-season and West Ham and Sunderland now appear to be leading the
race.
However, the England striker is still hoping that a move to Goodison Park
will materialise and a source close to Nugent told The Sun: "He's a lifelong
Blues fan and dreams of playing at Goodison Park.
"No approach has been made yet by boss David Moyes, but David still hopes a
deal can be secured to take him there."

McCarthy Could Arrive At West Ham Through Bizarre Circumstance -
westhamfans.org
Submitted by Neville Nixon on 25 June, 2007 - 21:53.

Now here's a funny thing, Blackburn striker Benny McCarthy who nearly signed
for West Ham only for his club to renege on the deal at the midnight hour
could well end up at the Boleyn as a result of a Premiership merry go
round... Want away midfielder Yossi Benayoun's desire to complete a move to
Liverpool from West Ham seems set to trigger a triumvirate of movement.
According to our sources, Liverpool are willing to include Craig Bellamy in
a part exchange deal to sign Israeli International Benayoun, but the
interesting element in this proposed deal is that Hammers would then
immediately offer Bellamy to Blackburn in exchange for McCarthy with a cash
adjustment.. This report is NOT heresay, we value fans opinions and would
not take the mickey by publishing porkies. Step back a bit and this could be
a good deal for all concerned, West Ham offload a want away player at an
'undisclosed fee' to a club who transfer a player at an ' undisclosed fee'
to a club who part exchange a player at an 'undisclosed fee' to the final
club in the equation. The end result could be that Liverpool get Benayoun,
Blackburn get Bellamy back again and West Ham end up with McCarthy. Of
course there will be a few million pounds give or take in the final
settlement, but this deal could be a 'goer', the only stumbling block could
be Mark Hughes, but then again rumour has it that he is seeking pastures new
from Ewood Park. - Ed
