Pablo Zabaleta knows just how important home form can be when it comes to enjoying a successful season. The full-back was part of the Manchester City sides which won the Premier League title in both 2012 and 2014, losing a grand total of one home match out of 38 in the process. While Zabaleta is experienced to know West Ham United will do well to emulate the Citizens' achievements, he knows the Hammers' London Stadium results will need to good if they are to climb away from the foot of the table. "Winning your home matches is always very important," said the No5, who was not on the pitch for a single home defeat all last season. "The points you collect at your own stadium will go a long way to showing how well you do in a season. "When we won the title twice with Manchester City, both times our home form was the reason we won the Premier League. We won 18 out of 19 home games in 2012, and lost just once in 2014. "Obviously, we are not going to match those records, but we do need to win more home games than we did last season if we are to achieve our targets this year."
The Argentinian will make his first home appearance in Claret and Blue on Monday evening – he appeared in Stratford for Manchester City last season – and has urged West Ham fans to get right behind Slaven Bilic's side when they take on Huddersfield Town. The newly-promoted Terriers have taken seven points from a possible nine and are yet to concede a goal, results and form that are in stark contrast to the Hammers' own opening efforts. For those reasons, Zabaleta has called for unity and vociferous support before and during Monday's game. "We are all looking forward to playing in front of our supporters for the first time at home, of course. We will have more than 50,000 fans cheering us on and they will give us a massive boost when we walk on to the pitch before kick-off.
"We have had great support at our away matches, but on Monday we will be at London Stadium, on our turf, and we need to use our home advantage to get the victory we need. "I played at London Stadium last season for Manchester City and I know it is a fantastic arena. The atmosphere and sound created by the fans are really loud and I can tell you that the players really feel it on the pitch."

New security search process in place at home matches

As part of our shared commitment to enhancing the matchday experience for supporters at London Stadium, West Ham United, working in partnership with Stadium Operators LS185, are pleased to announce that a new security search process will be in place this season, designed to improve security, reduce queuing times at turnstiles and alleviate congestion around the podium level.
Following feedback from fans, the new search operation - which will be in place for Monday's opening home Premier League game of the season against Huddersfield Town - will see search checkpoints stationed directly adjacent to the bridges leading on to the stadium island.
The process, used throughout London Stadium's summer of concerts and world athletics, has proved particularly successful in helping the flow of spectators to the stadium, and both West Ham United and LS185 are working together to ensure that the safety and security of our supporters is of paramount importance.
In order to allow easy access and cause minimal delays, it is recommended that supporters arrive at least one hour prior to kick-off and avoid bringing any bags to matches unless absolutely necessary. Large suitcases or luggage are not permitted in the stadium.
All bags will be searched and supporters may also be asked to remove jackets or coats in preparation for search. All approved bags are also subject to additional inspections within the Stadium. There will be an access lane at each checkpoint for supporters with accessibility needs.
These are not ticket check points, allowing supporters without tickets to gain access to the podium and visit the Stadium Store and Ticket Offices.
To further reduce queuing times at the search checkpoints, it is recommended that supporters access the stadium island via the bridges in closest proximity to their respective turnstile entrance. See our stadium map for an illustration of the following information:

It has been claimed that Newham Council are preparing to write off the £40million loan given to West Ham United to assist with the move from Upton Park to Stratford.
According to an eagle-eyed Forest Gate resident, posting on forestgate.net, the Council - led by Hammers fan Sir Robin Wales - have already decided to drop the debt with immediate effect.
"Detail hidden in the draft accounts, due to be signed off by cabinet tonight, shows that the 'loan' made to help transform the 2012 Olympic stadium into West Ham United's new ground is being written off," wrote the concerned resident. "After just one season of operation as a football stadium the council is now 'writing off' that £40m investment.
"A line in the Draft Statement of Accounts 2016/17 refers to 'Impairment totalling £44.4m of a Long Term Debtor in one of the Council's group undertaking, Newham Legacy Investments Ltd'. The £40m being written off is double the amount of 'savings and efficiencies' being made this year.
"Residents were promised the investment would provide Newham with a share of the profits generated over the long term. It turned out be a gift to Messrs Sullivan and Gold. The money, borrowed by the council from the Treasury, will now have to be re-paid by local taxpayers."
Two years ago West Ham were forced to defend charges that they had effectively received state aid when they were accused of failing to follow protocol regarding the sum received from the public purse.
"West Ham United is confident that its agreement with the LLDC complies with all relevant UK and European legislation and categorically does not constitute state aid," said a club spokesman at the time.

Sporting Lisbon are to report West Ham to FIFA for alleged "illegal approaches" made to William Carvalho, say Sky sources. West Ham are currently pursuing legal action against Sporting's communications director, Nuno Saraiva, after he labelled Hammers co-owner David Sullivan a "liar" and a "parasite" and claimed that the Premier League side made no offers for the Portugal international. Sky Sports News revealed on Wednesday two emails appearing to show Sullivan offering just under £23m for Carvalho, before making a follow-up bid that included a 10 per cent sell-on clause and additional add-ons based on West Ham qualifying for the Champions League.
Sullivan also claimed last week that the offers were rejected before Sporting got back in touch with West Ham on Deadline Day and indicated a willingness to negotiate another deal, but there was not enough time. Saraiva previously said on Facebook: "No proposal arrived for the player William Carvalho. "Mr Sullivan has a duty to prove what he says. For this reason, Sporting Clube de Portugal challenge him to publicly show the proposals he says have been made, as well as the evidence that Sporting CP has received them."
Sky Sports News understands the 25-year-old wanted a move to the Premier League, but he had a £40m release clause in his contract and Sporting were initially keen for that figure to be met. Carvalho, who helped Portugal win Euro 2016, is a product of the Sporting academy and has scored 10 goals in 155 appearances since making his first-team debut in 2011.

Sky Sports have published copies of emails said to be from David Sullivan confirming that the club DID make an official offer for Sporting midfielder William Carvalho. The emails, which you may see below, appear to provide evidence of a £25m bid payable in three tranches of £8.3m each over three years.
Sporting President Bruno de Carvalho had earlier challenged Sullivan to provide evidence of his claims, made in a statement issued on the club's website at the weekend.

Two emails appear to prove West Ham did make offers for William Carvalho in light of denials from Sporting Lisbon. The Portuguese club's communications director, Nuno Saraiva, has claimed no bids were received from the Hammers for the midfielder, adding that "[co-chairman] Mr [David] Sullivan has a duty to prove what he says." David Sullivan Jr, son of the West ham co-chairman, confirmed on Twitter afterward that the club intends to take legal action against Saraiva.
Sky Sports have now obtained two emails, allegedly sent from Sullivan to Sporting, first offering £23million spread over three seasons before a second included a sell-on clause and potential add-ons should West Ham qualify for the Champions League. West Ham allege the Sporting rejected the outlined offers before returning late in the transfer window to accept the terms, leaving little time to complete a deal. Sullivan said earlier this week: "It is no secret that we made a club record bid for Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho but unfortunately that offer was rejected a couple of weeks ago," he said. "Late last night Sporting Lisbon made contact to accept the original offer but unfortunately it was just too late in the day, and we simply did not have enough time to put the player through a medical.
"We were not prepared, as a club, to buy a player for that amount of money without him having gone through adequate medical checks."

While West Ham United signed well-known players such as Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez during the summer transfer window, the addition of Sead Haksabanovic went slightly under the radar as he was a more low-profile buy. The Irons signed the winger on a five-year deal from Swedish side Halmstads BK in August, and even though he is 18 years of age he will hope to make a big impact for the east London outfit this season after some stand-out performances in Sweden.
The Montenegro wide-man, who Transfermarkt value at just £1.35million, played 72 minutes of the Hammers' 3-2 win against Swindon Town in their first EFL Trophy group game last month, and he will be hoping he can push for a spot in Slaven Bilic's first team squad sooner than he may have expected following the club's disastrous start to the Premier League campaign.

Debut
He may have only celebrated his 18th birthday in May, but Haksabanovic is relatively experienced for his age having made more than 70 first-team appearances in total. That record is largely due to the early faith that Halmstads BK showed in the teenager as they handed him his full Allsvenskan debut when he was just 15 years and 11 months old, as a substitute in a 3-0 loss to IFK Norrkoping in April 2015. It is a clear indication of how mature the player is both on and off the pitch, and he certainly wouldn't be fazed if he was thrown into the Irons' starting line-up in the near future.
Manchester United trial
When you make your debut at the age of 15 you are always going to attract curious glances from elsewhere, and it proved to be the case for Haksabanovic in August 2015 when one of the biggest clubs in world football – Manchester United – came calling. The Red Devils invited the teenage attacker to Old Trafford for a trial and he trained alongside the likes of Marcus Rashford and Timothy Fosu-Mensah before United decided against handing him a contract.
He has an eye for goal
Primarily playing as a left winger, Haksabanovic is required to bring a goal threat and he has certainly proven that he does exactly that during his short career to date. The 18-year-old scored eight goals in 30 league appearances to help Halmstads BK secure an immediate return to the Allsvenskan for the club in the 2016 campaign, before netting four in 18 outings in the top flight this year. Even though Halmstads won just two of those league games, the teenager showed that he isn't afraid to have a pop at goal after unleashing 50 shots in that period – only three players produced more.
Montenegro international
Even though he was born in Sweden and played for the nation at Under-17 and U-19 levels, Haksabanovic decided to switch his allegiance to Montenegro – the country his father was born in – earlier this year. Manager Ljubisa Tumbakovic wasted no time in calling the impressive 18-year-old into the full squad either, and the winger made his debut in the 4-1 2018 World Cup qualification win against Armenia in June before being named in the latest squad for the fixtures against Kazakhstan and Romania. The nation currently sit second in Group E and while they still have a chance of finishing top, they could also miss out on the top-two finish they require to at least secure a play-off fixture, with themselves, table-toppers Poland and third-placed Denmark currently separated by just three points.
He could be the new Payet
Much like Payet did for West Ham before things turned sour between him and the club last year, Haksabanovic loves to operate on the left-wing. The Irons will hope that the 18-year-old can go on to have a similar impact to the one the Frenchman did, especially as he is also comfortable with both feet and is effective at cutting inside from the left and getting a shot away at goal. While it will be difficult to be as influential as Payet was for the Hammers, the potential is certainly there.

Paul Ince has slammed West Ham's board rather than Slaven Bilic after their "miserable" start to the season. Ince pointed the finger at the Hammers hierarchy for throwing Bilic under the bus over their summer signings but leapt to the defence of the east Londoners' boss. After failing to land William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon, Hammers joint chairman David Sullivan said boss Bilic turned down the chance to sign highly-rated potential midfield alternatives Renato Sanches and Grzegorz Krychowiak who joined Swansea and West Brom instead. Sullivan's claims will intensify the spotlight on Bilic who is already feeling the heat after three straight league defeats to start the season. And former Hammers midfielder Ince said: "I really dislike the comments coming out from the owners. "They've been talking about how they wanted Renato Sanches, but Billic didn't as he was happy with his squad. "It's his team and it's down to him which players they sign. Whether or not the board wanted Sanches, that's something which should be kept behind closed doors. "It's totally unfair of the board to go broadcasting that – I'm not sure what they are playing at. Ince left West Ham under a cloud in 1989 after being pictured in a Manchester United shirt before the move to Old Trafford was completed. Of Bilic, Ince told Paddy Power News: "Slaven Bilic isn't the issue, and I'm glad he's still at the club. You can see just how much he cares about West Ham United. "He wants to do well but, most importantly, he wants the players to do well, and I know that the players love playing for him. Former West Ham goalkeeping legend Phil Parkes has urged manager Slaven Bilic to adopt a more daring approach to help snap the team out of their poor start to the season.
Before the international break, West Ham's record of three games, three defeats, meant they were bottom of the Premier League table. Writing in his column for Blowing Bubbles magazine, Parkes, a two-time FA Cup winner with West Ham and one of the Boys of 86, says one way to turn things around is to be more adventurous. "We seem to rely too much on the counter-attack as our one way of playing these days – I think the management urgently needs to get some flair in there and take risks," he said. The reason for West Ham youngster Domingos Quina's move to Championship side Sheffield United falling through on deadline day has been revealed. Quina looked set to complete a season-long loan move to Bramall Lane, only for it to collapse during the final stages of the move. With some suggesting that talks between both clubs stalled as the deadline neared, reports from Portugal claim that demands from the player's agent was actually the reason for the teenager's Championship move falling through.
According to Portuguese publication O Jogo, Quina's agent is believed to have requested more money so that his client could clinch a move to Chris Wilder's team.
Given that the move didn't go through, the 17-year-old will be hoping that Slaven Bilic gives him an opportunity to showcase his talents in the first team. After playing in the qualifying stages of the Europa League for the Hammers last season, Quina featured off the bench in the Hammers' 2-0 win at Cheltenham Town in the Carabao Cup last month. However, if chances in the first team remain limited, the opportunity to move to the Championship club could well arise again once the transfer window reopens.

Just around the time that 'Motty' has decided he only has one season left in him, not bad for a pensioner, a new breed of commentators might just have to begin getting to grips with getting their lips around how to pronounce West Ham's new wonder kid Sead Haksabanovic's name? It is phonetically pronounced sayad haskerbanovitch, but will do wonders for Paul Merson's mental development among others should they need to be commenting on future games featuring West Ham.
Injuries to Andre Ayew, Edmilison Fernadez and more importantly Manuel Lanzini mean that Hammers lack the spark to unlock Premier League defences without their new talisman nick named the little jewel. Robert Snodgrass had been panic purchased to try and cover the snake known as Dimitri Payet's departure, a role that should have instantly been given to Lanzini, that decision alone cost at least a £10 Million hit and still counting, ouch! but at least not on an Arsene 'he who knows best' scale at Arsenal.
Sead Haksabanovic is a boy who grew up playing in a man's game, comparisons with Manchester United's and now Everton's Wayne Rooney, except the whoring, hair loss and womanising, have already been made about Haksabanovic. Although relatively slight of frame he is a handful for opposition, and above all initially he will be an unknown quantity for midfielders and defenders to contend with, OK they can all look on You Tube, but as we all know You Tube is a very fickle beast when it comes to portraying the truth sometimes!

West Ham duo Cheikhou Kouyate and Diafra Sakho must play an extra World Cup qualifying game in November after FIFA decided that a clash between South Africa and Senegal must be replayed after the referee who was in charge of the original tie between the two sides was found guilty of match fixing.
The original game, which took place in November 2016, was investigated when referee Joseph Lamptey inexplicably awarded South Africa a penalty for handball, even though the ball clearly hit Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly on the knee.
After a complaint by the Senegal Football Federation, Lamptey was guilty of fixing the game and as such, it will need to be replayed. The window in November was already set aside for international friendly games, in which the West Ham pair may not have had to play but with a competitive game now being scheduled, the pair are sure to make the trip to South Africa and both could end up playing a full 90 minutes for their country.

Morrison was once considered one of the hottest prospects in the country after being signed as a teenager by Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. According to Rio Ferdinand, Fergie "thought he was the best player he had seen at that age".
A move to West Ham under Sam Allardyce was meant to breathe fresh life into the player with the hope he would finally realise his potential. But speaking on Sky Sports last night, Big Sam made a shocking admission about the midfielder. He explained: "He was that good but because of the mental side of his game and his life he couldn't produce that talent on a regular basis. "He was the biggest waste of talent I ever worked with. "We had three months where Ravel was the match-winner at West Ham every week. "Everybody raved about him and there was talk of a new contract and then all of a sudden it went the other way."
Loan periods to Birmingham City, QPR and Cardiff City could not get the best out of him, and he was eventually shipped off to Lazio. He failed to make an impact there and had a second unsuccessful loan period at QPR before heading to central America this summer.

The Ghana international picked up a thigh problem away on duty in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Congo at home last Friday. Sporting Lisbon will tell FIFA that West Ham made 'illegal approaches' for midfielder William Carvalho over the summer. The Hammers retained an interest in Carvalho throughout the summer window, but failed to land the anchorman as they looked to bolster their midfield. And now, Sporting are prepared to report the Irons over their interest in the 25-year-old. West Ham themselves are considering legal action against Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho, who claimed the club lied over making a late bid for the midfielder. David Gold and David Sullivan were also insulted by the Sporting chief, who labelled the West Ham owners the 'Dildo Brothers'. But two e-mails have been obtained by Sky Sports, suggesting formal offers were actually made at the start of August. The details of the bid are staggering however, with just £7.6m offered up front for the Euro 2016 winner. According to the e-mails, West Ham were willing to cough up just £23m in three payments until August 2019.
A follow-up bid appears to have been made, including an optimistic add-on of West Ham qualifying for the Champions League, and a 10 percent sell-on clause.
The e-mails also include a threat from West Ham to pull out of the deal to "borrow" a player from PSG - likely to have been midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak who went on to join West Brom. It comes after De Carvalho called on West Ham fans to challenge the "Dildo Brothers" for what he described as "the truth" over the move for the midfielder. Speaking to Sporting TV in Portugal, he said: "Where is it? Proof? Now, approaches, for sure. I've had them for almost the whole squad: West Ham supporters call Mr. David Sullivan and his brother, the Dildo Brothers… "These messengers, these offended virgins, the president of West Ham… We must tell the truth!"

It is pretty tough being a West Ham supporter at the moment.The season has started with anger, disappointment and turmoil. However THERE is ONE area at least, off pitch, where the club appear to be prospering. Since last year West Ham has massively stepped up their game in relation to how they serve their Disabled Supporters. This is a story worth telling.
Some organisations approach Disabled Access defensively. Some football clubs do the minimum they can to meet their legal obligations and deny they have responsibility to do more. The attitude reported to me from supporters of other clubs can be that people should be "grateful for what they get".
I am very glad to say that West Ham do not take this approach. In contrast they have engaged with supporters, forming a Disabled Supporters Advisory Board last year to receive advice, suggestions and yes criticism of the way the Club organise it services. There was plenty of feedback, both positive and negative, which the club received at it first meeting last year.
|In many organisation responding to this feedback alone would have formed an agenda for necessary improvements. Few would have criticised the club for not doing more.
However West Ham went the extra mile and commissioned an extensive Access Audit of the Stadium and its services from an independent specialist organisation. This Audit revealed over 100 areas for improvement. Now I have to stress that this is not a bad news story in any sense. This is a good news story. I have absolutely no doubt that many, if not most other PL clubs would have fared worse. There was no formal requirement for West Ham to spend money for an organisation to constructively criticise their services. The fact that they did so showed how serious they are to start on a genuine road to excellence.
At the Advisory Board on the 5th September the club reported how they had already responded to this audit by meeting 42 of the improvements suggested. In the next few weeks this will grow to over 50 improvement areas ticked off. There remain challenges to meeting all the suggested areas improvements but the club will produce an Action Plan to look at ways of meeting these.
Since receiving feedback from Disabled Supporters at the last Board meeting, West Ham have reorganised the way that they are providing support. This includes reviewing and changing the support they provide through the Accessibility Shuttle Bus service. This has now increased to 18 Coaches and accessing them is now through a permit available from the Accessibility Team. The dispensing of Commentary Headsets devices for Visually Impaired supporters has been rationalised. Now they will be provided and returned from Window 20 in the main ticket office. Extra Rest benches have been provided in the park to assist disabled supporters who find the walk to Stratford challenging. Negotiations have been opened with Westfield to allow supporters with mobility impairments to take an easier less strenuous walk to Stratford Station; hopefully these new arrangements will be trialled during the Bolton and Tottenham games. The club are about to commit to a significant upgrade to their Website which will include consultation and testing with myself and other visually impaired supporters to ensure we can all access the information on the site equally. Policing of Accessibility Toilets to prevent their abuse by non-disabled fans using them for smoking and so on at half time will be increased this season. There are other areas of improvement but space does not permit covering them here.
The Accessibility Staff at the club are to be supported with upgraded Accessibility training, including the commitment to train initially 15 staff in the use of British Sign Language so that they can more effectively assist Deaf Hammers who use sign language.
Perhaps one of the most important responses that the club has made it to collect and organise information on the range of support they provide for its Disable supporters. A problem used to, and probably continues to exist where Disabled Supporters do not know the supports that the club can offer. Some Disabled West Ham supporters may not attend games because they lack confidence that they could manage. If Disabled supporters do attend they may be experiencing unnecessary difficulty which the club could support them with.
To help redress this the club have produced an Access Statement which for the first time now collates together a summary of what Access Support is available to help a Disabled Supporter attend games. This is an evolving document which will necessarily change as further improvements are made with services. This will appear on the updated www.whufc.com website but I have uploaded it onto SendSpace so that anybody interested can read it now.

One of the benefits of moving to the London Stadium is that West Ham have doubled the numbers of Disabled Supporters attending their games. The increase in demand provided Challenges for the Accessibility Team but it appears that they are now being given the tools skills, resources and guidance to do their job.

The staggering details of West Ham's offers for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho appear to have been revealed. The Hammers are considering legal action against Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho, who claimed the club lied over making a late bid for the midfielder. David Gold and David Sullivan were also insulted by the Sporting chief, who labelled the West Ham owners the "Dildo Brothers". But two e-mails have been obtained by Sky Sports, suggesting formal offers were actually made at the start of August. The details of the bid are staggering however, with just £7.6m offered up front for the Euro 2016 winner.

According to the e-mails, West Ham were willing to cough up just £23m in three payments until August 2019. A follow-up bid appears to have been made, including an optimistic add-on of West Ham qualifying for the Champions League, and a 10 percent sell-on clause. The e-mails also include a threat from West Ham to pull out of the deal to "borrow" a player from PSG - likely to have been midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak who went on to join West Brom. So, with the 2022-23 season expected to start early because of the World Cup in Qatar in December 2022, another nightmare scenario is facing the Hammers. The capacity attendances throughout the recent athletics championships would make London hot favourites to win a Euro bid. The war of words between West Ham and Sporting Lisbon has escalated following the breakdown of a transfer move for Portugal midfielder William Carvalho.
Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho on Wednesday referred to West Ham owners David Sullivan and David Gold as the 'dildo brothers' in an interview with Sporting TV, according to Portuguese newspaper Record. The Hammers' proposed £23million deal for the Portugal midfielder broke down before the transfer window closed last week. Sporting claimed West Ham had never submitted an official bid for Carvalho, leading the Hammers to vow to sue the Portuguese club.
And now Sporting director De Carvalho has hit out at Sullivan and Gold, while Sky Sports News claimed to have obtained emails that prove West Ham did indeed bid for Portugal star Carvalho. "Instead of spouting off, West Ham's offer should be shown. Where is it? What proof is there," De Carvalho said on Sporting TV.
"What has happened here? The chairman (Sullivan) is very happy with the coach (Slaven Bilic), who was the person who wanted William. "The man wanted to give the coach the player he wanted as much as I want to give a Christmas gift to my enemy. I did not want to give you anything! "West Ham supporters call Mr David Sullivan and his brother the dildo brothers."
Sullivan and Gold are not related but are long-standing business partners. Sporting's latest derogatory remarks aimed at West Ham follow their communications director accusing Sullivan of being a "liar" and "parasite" in a Facebook post. No sooner had Sporting director De Carvalho called out West Ham to produce proof of their offer on Wednesday though, than Sky Sports obtained emails apparently showing precisely that. The emails Sky Sports published detail an offer of 25million euros to be paid in three instalments across 24 months for the 25-year-old.
West Ham have previously confirmed their intention to launch legal action against Sporting for claiming the Premier League club did not submit any transfer offer for Carvalho. Writing via his personal Twitter account on Sunday, owner's son David Sullivan Junior said: "West Ham are commencing legal proceedings against the communications director of Sporting Lisbon as a written offer for the player was made. "To Bruno de Carvalho the president of Sporting Lisbon. To say we never made an offer is nonsense and serious libel."

International round-up: Arnautovic and Kouyate feature in draws

West Ham United pair Marko Arnautovic and Cheikhou Kouyate both played 90 minutes as Austria and Senegal both picked up draws in their latest FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday night.
Arnautovic's Austria came from behind to claim a share of the spoils against Georgia in European qualifying Group D. The Georgians led through Valeriane Gvilla's early opener, until Austria's Louis Schaub levelled two minutes before the break. A final scoreline of 1-1 means Austria have now drawn three of their eight qualifiers and now sit five points adrift of James' Collins Wales, who occupy second place behind Serbia.
Meanwhile, in Ouagadougou, Kouyate started in midfield for Senegal, who first came from behind and were then pegged back by Burkina Faso in their 2-2 draw.
Ismaila Sarr and Sadio Mane were on target for Senegal, but a last gasp own goal by Papa Seydou N'Diaye means they remain a point off top spot in Africa's Group D.
James Collins, Andre Ayew and Arthur Masuaku were not involved as Wales defeated Moldova, Ghana beat Congo and DR Congo drew with Tunisia respectively.
There was more success for West Ham's Irish U21 contingent, as Josh Cullen and Declan Rice started in the Boys In Green's 3-1 UEFA U21 Championship qualifying victory in Azerbaijan. Ireland, captained by Cullen, now top Group 5 with two wins from two, although tougher tests against the likes of Germany and Israel await.
Finally, Dan Kemp was on the bench as England U19s were defeated 3-1 by Germany. The Hammers youngster played a key role in the Young Lions' 7-1 victory against Poland last week, providing two assists.

Cresswell: England experiences have boosted my confidence

Aaron Cresswell is eager to bring his positive England experiences back to West Ham United. The Hammers left-back was part of the Three Lions squad for the recent victories over Malta and Slovakia – the third time he has been called-up by his country – which left Gareth Southgate's side just two points from securing their place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals. And while Cresswell was an unused substitute for both successes, he confirmed that being part of both wins was good for his confidence after a challenging start to the Premier League season. "At the minute, it's not going great at West Ham with three defeats in our first three Premier League games," confirmed the No3. "But I'm looking forward to getting back in with the lads, as I'm sure Joe [Hart] is as well, getting back on the training pitch and working hard to do what we have to do to beat Huddersfield on Monday. "I'm also looking forward to getting back to London Stadium and hopefully we can give something back to the fans, get those three points and kick-start our season."
Should Cresswell produce the goods in Claret and Blue, he will also boost his chances of securing a place in England's squad for Russia 2018, should they qualify.
However, with fierce competition for places in his position – Southampton's Ryan Bertrand started both games, while Tottenham Hotspur's Danny Rose, Everton's Leighton Baines, Manchester United's Luke Shaw and West Bromwich Albion new boy Kieran Gibbs have all been capped – Cresswell knows he will need to play consistently well to stay in Southgate's thoughts. "We're two points from the World Cup and for me personally it's a good experience to be part of it with the boys," the No3, who has two caps, told whufc.com. Reflecting on Monday's come-from-behind 2-1 win over Slovakia, Cresswell was pleased with how his England squad-mates handled a potentially tricky situation after falling behind inside three minutes. "Obviously they scored first very early on and it showed great character to come from behind, get into the lead," he observed. "The main thing for us was to get the three points and move away from Slovakia in the group, which we've done. "We're only two points away from qualifying and we all believe we will get the job done in the next international break."
England complete their Group F campaign by hosting Slovenia at Wembley on 5 October before travelling to Lithuania three days later. Cresswell and company go into those games five points clear of second-place Slovakia with a superior goal difference, knowing one victory or two draws will be enough to take them to a 15th World Cup finals.

Declan Rice labelled Tuesday night a "proud moment" as he helped the Republic of Ireland's U21s to a win on his competitive debut. The teenager started and completed 90 minutes in the Boys in Green's 3-1 UEFA European Championship qualifying victory over Azerbaijan. Noel King's side now top their qualifying group after they added Tuesday's three points to their win over Kosovo in March ahead of the 2019 tournament to be held in Italy and San Marino. Rice has been involved in all four of the Hammers' matches so far this campaign, impressing in a central midfield role, and could make his London Stadium debut on Monday against Huddersfield Town should he be selected by manager Slaven Bilic. The 18-year-old reflected on a moment to remember representing his country and looked ahead to the vital Premier League fixture. "It was a very proud moment for me and my family, to make my competitive debut for the U21s," the youngster said. "The start I've had to the season has been great and it's another part that I will always remember. "It would be a dream come true to play at London Stadium for the first time in a first team game if I get that opportunity on Monday. I'm very grateful to have been involved in every game so far, so I hope that can continue. "With Ireland, we couldn't have asked for a better start to qualifying, as a group. And the 18-year-old enjoyed teaming up with Cullen once again in his new, more advanced, role. "You know what you're going to get with Josh, and he's a fantastic player," Rice continued. "He's had a couple of good years on loan and will be hoping to do it again in the Championship. He's great to play alongside. "To be honest, I'm really liking playing there [in midfield], and I can show off more of my ability there, in the middle of the park. "But wherever any manager wants me to play, I'll always play there and put in 100 per cent."
Bilic's men return to action on Monday after more than a fortnight without a game due to the international break when Huddersfield Town visit east London.
And despite the Terriers' promising early form and the Hammers' disappointment, Rice believes his team has it in them to turn things around. "We just have to stay positive and keep working hard," he explained. "We have have to try and make things right. "For me personally, I feel like I can take back a lot of confidence from the international break having made my debut and a lot of the other boys won too. "That's definitely going to help us going back into Monday's game."

Many are now saying what the likes of Brother Enfield and myself have said for years regarding G&S.
They are spin merchants supreme. Masters of launching phantom 'bids' they know full well the selling Club won't accept. Another trick they have been known for, and I believe they still do, is not being able to agree personal terms for a player they are 'attempting' to sign. In other words, using every trick in the book to make sure a 'bid' is not concluded. Every summer transfer window, before season ticket renewal time, leak after leak about launching 'stunning 'bids' for this star or that appears in the media. They certainly know every trick in the book on how to manipulate the media, thanks to their years owning The Daily Sport. Hammers fans everywhere are tired of the constant bullshit, and as a result there is plenty of anti-Board sentiment and David Sullivan has copped most of it. The Sporting Lisbon Director, Nuno Saraiva, called him "A lying parasite and an 'intellectual' pornographer".

Good old Nuno gave him the kicking he fully deserves. Sorry Nuno, but you were just covering your own arse. I will explain why in a bit. No, I have not had it all right regarding G&S. Neither has anyone else.
Let's have a look at things closely, trying to separate the truth from fiction. This transfer window was always going to be a tough ask, having to get rid of the dross brought to The Club last summer. The Board and Slaven have taken big stick over this. The question on my lips is why has the chief scout, Tony Henry, been allowed to escape any flak? We actually did well to shift most of them this summer. I'm afraid I do not believe that we made good money on the likes of Randolph and Fletcher. I think that was just positive spin, when in reality I think we made very little profit on the players we shifted. The thing that puzzles me about the transfer window is this. For 75% of the window we had been doing so well! Not a word from Sullivan or young Jack. In came Zabaleta, Hart, Arnautovic and Hernandez. I, like many of you, were on top of the world. Indeed supporters from other clubs had told me that we had done very impressive business. All seemed well, most were happy, and there was no talk of net spend then. Indeed many were saying "Its brilliant business not spending much money, and bringing these four in". Slaven could not stop singing The Board's praises.
Now it feels like we had spent months trying to reach the summit of Mount Everest, yet 500 yards from the summit we turned round and came back. Why? I think as per normal, The Chairman sat down with Slaven to discuss transfer targets and finances. I also think at about the same time Liverpool made contact about buying Manuel Lanzini, thinking that Coutinho would be off to Barcelona. Bilic would have been informed, and he would have had to sanction any potential move. Not the Chairman. I have an inkling the manager gave the nod for the player to be sold, providing he could spend the funds. Bilic would then have identified potential targets and discussed possible fan backlash with The Board. This is where William Carvalho comes in. I don't think that he was on the original list of transfer targets, agreed to by Slaven and The Board. I think that the talks must of escalated to the stage that a fee was agreed in principle regarding the sale of Lanzini. I think if Lanzini had been sold we would have brought in Carvalho and two more quality additions.
At the same time, despite what Nuno says, a similar scenario was unfolding between West Ham and Sporting. Almost like putting an offer on a house pending the sale of yours. Hence Carvalho, dropping out of Sporting matches with mysterious injuries. Likewise Lanzini at ours. Even to the point that Lanzini, dropped out of Argentina's match with a knee injury just before transfer deadline day. Yet just after deadline day, The Jewel made a miraculous recovery.
Funny that.
I like many spent the whole transfer window worrying that we would sell Lanzini, but the simple fact is every single Club is a selling Club. You have to be prepared to sell any player and have replacements in mind you can swoop for should you have to sell. The likes of Southampton and Spurs are experts at this, and it has not affected their on the field performances that much. While expecting three more faces to arrive we started trimming the squad to make way for Carvalho and the rest.
Tick, Tock the clock went on. No sale on Coutinho, no sale of Lanzini, budget already spent. No money for Carvalho and one or two others.
This was about two weeks before the window shut. It seems as though round about that time Bilic adopted the attitude of Lanzini gone or not he still wanted Carvalho. Hence the public courting of the player and constant talk of net spend from Bilic. No doubt this would not have gone down well with David Sullivan.
Right up to deadline day people everywhere were expecting Coutinho to be sold to Barcelona, which would have led to a catalogue of events transfer wise. Which I'm convinced would have led to William Carvalho playing his football in Claret and Blue this season. Unfortunately this has led to us having an unbalanced squad, lacking in pace and depth, without the available funds to conclude the last few deals. Still, it's by no means a terrible squad. It's pretty clear that the relationship between Bilic and Sullivan is toxic as a fallout over the Carvalho affair, which has resulted in Sullivan throwing Bilic under the bus. Just like Grant, Allardyce, and Zola it seems as though The Board are so tight fisted that they want to force Slaven to quit and thus avoid compensation. Sorry, but that is the behaviour of yobs! Do you think any decent manager would want to work in such a set up? Not on your life!
As for our manager, I like the charismatic Croat, but let's not pretend he is St Peter and all that. He couldn't wait to leave the Club for Everton after one season. On the pitch itself, while playing for Croatia in the World Cup semi-final against France, while jostling for a corner he got the faintest of touches against Lauren Blanc, dived and got Blanc sent off. So just like any human being he has his flaws. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes? Maybe Sullivan feels he got thrown under the bus first, hence the statement on the Official site last night. Who knows the truth about that one? Is Sullivan telling porkies or did Bilic really turn down Renato Sanches and Grzegorz krchowiak? I find that difficult to believe. Or is there the remote possibility that Bilic threw a massive sulk because he never got Carvalho and indeed did turn them down? A bit like a child wanting Nike trainer's and been giving a cheaper brand, them binning them in vindictive spite.
What I do know is this. At just past eleven when the transfer window closed, I poured myself a double Jack Daniels and Coke Zero, ran a bath and soaked myself. Then just like that I let out a LOUD FART! BUBBLES EVERYWHERE! Then I belted out Bubbles, had a good laugh, shook my head, and shouted West Ham!
I'm ready to go to war for OUR great Club as always. Bring on Huddersfield. Let's get those three points. Like the desert needs the rain, West Ham (not G&S) needs YOU! Now more than ever, we desperately need to hold our nerve and really get behind the team. We CANNOT afford not too! A toxic atmosphere is just going to lead to disaster, on and off the pitch. What decent player will want to join us if we are in the bottom three come January? Or what decent manager will come to us at the end of the season if we've been relegated? We CANNOT afford relegation at any cost. If we did get relegated we could end up like Coventry. As for The Board, it's not been all bad under them. One only has to look at the squad from five years ago and compare it to today, and one must acknowledge progress has been made. It's just the lies, lies, sweet little lies that piss everybody off.
As for Jack Sullivan, good luck in learning the ropes at the club. David Sullivan JNR, with whom I have had sporadic communication with, I will only say he's a top lad! Your Mum and Dad MUST be doing something right!

With the transfer now closed, I feel this is the perfect opportunity to access where the club is in terms of progression and discuss what I believe our the fundamental issues with how the club is run.
After an underwhelming first season at our new home, I went into the summer hoping that the owners would learn from the poor recruitment that took place both in the summer and January, by purchasing players that would take this club onto the next level. We were promised that they would be playing their cards closer to the chest this time around, but through Director of Recruitment, Tony Henry, stated we were looking at bringing in quality over quantity with a maximum of three players coming in. I was immediately concerned by this statement because I felt that was simply just bringing the players to fill in the gapping gaps in the team and not looking to improve in every position with better players.
The beginning of the window saw us finally fill our problematic right back position for many of a year with Pablo Zabaleta joining, adding much needed experience and leadership to the squad. After a frustrating month in June, where fans alike began to panic that we would not bring in a top class striker, eventually deals for Marco Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez were concluded. Arnautovic has all the makings to be a top quality player but has blown hot and cold at Inter Milan, Werder Bremen and Stoke. However the general conscientious was that he would take away a huge burden on Manuel Lanzini to create chances and go some way at attempting to replace Dimitri Payet. Hernandez whose goals to minute's ratio at football's elite clubs speaks for itself and with West Ham strikers failing to reach double figures for goals for over a decade, can only be considered a superb bit of business. England's number one, Joe Hart also joined on a year's long loan deal. It is fair to say that in the recent couple of seasons, the goalkeepers highly rated reputation has fallen, but I do feel that if he can regain some form he is certainly an upgrade on both Adrian and the departing Randolph, who both had mistake ridden campaigns. The final signing of the window saw what has become commonplace as the 'one for the future signing' in Sead Haksabanovic. Like Edimilson Fernandes, I expect Sead to be in and around the first team, making the odd appearance from the bench.
The transfer window, we have also seen sixteen players depart, with all the permanent ones proving that they were simply not good enough for a club that is supposed to be progressing to the next level and we did make very good money on the majority of these departures.
Overall, I feel that the signings have been able to plug much needed gaps in the starting 11, but we simply haven't done anywhere near enough business to strengthen an already stretched squad that consistently suffers injuries to key personnel. I feel we needed to buy at least one more top level striker, as in Carroll and Sakho, it's the case of how many games we can get out of them, rather than relying on them week in week out. Plus with Sakho's latest display of unprofessionalism, I hope he rots in the reserves. We have also seen three strikers depart and only brought one in, which simply leaves us short once again. Furthermore, I feel Hernandez is far more effective playing with a striker, than up top by himself.
I also feel that we need to bring in an additional creative wide player to replace both Feghouli and Snodgrass, as we really do lack creativity and players that can beat a man since Payet departed. In addition, we needed to bring in a top class defensive midfielder, to protect our shaky defence, as well as someone who is far more comfortable with the ball under pressure than our current midfielders. Finally I feel that we needed to bring in a new centre back, as without Reid, the other three defenders lack pace, concentration and composure with the ball.
So now assessing where the club is and where it is supposed to be progressing too, I am simply left disillusioned by the following two areas.
The Owners
Back in 2010, David Sullivan and David Gold set out a plan to take the club to the next level, which saw an ambition proposal of the Champions League by 2017. Since then, we've obviously had a major rebuild and period of stabilisation, which was much needed. We also secured the former Olympic Stadium, which had been portrayed as a key ingredient to this club growing in stature, allowing us to purchase better players and ultimately become a side that can compete in Europe on a regular basis. Unfortunately this has turned out to nothing but a pipe dream. Now, I'm not disputing that David Sullivan works tirelessly in the transfer market, but ultimately he doesn't have the finances to go out and purchase what is required to take this club forward. Only last night he put out a ludicrous statement on the official website, defending the transfer policy. It was claimed that a deal could have been done for the defensive midfielder that the team has been crying out for and the manager desperately wanted, William Carvalho. However we apparently ran out of time to conclude the deal due to not being able to complete a medical, with the player being away on International duty. Simply that is nonsense, as Leicester City have shown with Adrien Silva, who was also with the Portugal squad, the medical could have been completed after the window, providing the relevant paperwork for the signing was completed. Had we desperately wanted to get Carvalho over the line we would have.
Unfortunately with the owners, there is always an excuse and some form of justification for the not sealing the very best signings. David Gold, spoke on Talksport about having to find the money to do deals, which is frankly alarming for a club that is trying to progress. Karren Brady spoke on Sky Sports' The Debate show about the club having to do sensible business deals, citing disdain at the likes of Manchester City for being able to just splash the cash on anyone and everyone. The reality is though, in order for this club to go to the next level, we need further investment. We simply do not have owners that have the finances to compete with the now top seven clubs and as a result our stagnating, with the hope of finishing 8th at best. To have an outgoing expenditure lower than Watford and Leicester and barely above Brighton and Huddersfield is a sad indictment on the ambition that we have shown. Man City and Chelsea have proven that the only way you become a big team is by financial wealth. With Everton, now securing a takeover, it going to become even harder for us to progress and I am left envious at them with the transfer business they have done in compared to ours. Make no mistake about this is just the start of something great for that club and my fear is we're getting left behind. Now I'm not suggesting we need to riot and force them to sell the club, but I hope sooner rather than later, that the owners accept they cannot take the club any further forward and we attract a huge takeover opportunity that will give us what us fans deserve which is success.
The Manager Situation
Like all West Ham fans I am extremely disappointed with the start of the campaign. The Manchester United game was always going to be an extremely difficult game. They have brought very well in their quest to get back to the top and we had key personnel missing through injury. When you play against the top six sides, you've got to be at your best and they've got to be below bar in order to get a result. Unfortunately, after Obiang's mistake we fell apart. The Southampton game, Slaven rightly made changes and frustratingly the players that came in, didn't take their chance with fundamentally bad mistakes costing us goals once again. Even with that we showed great character and had it not been for poor officiating, we would have got the point our 2nd half performance deserved. The Newcastle game, we were just simply outclassed but fans need to realise that West Ham throughout our history have often produced dreadful performances, so it's nothing new. As a result however, a lot of pressure is now at Slaven Bilic's door, with a vocal minority now demanding he be sacked, with the belief he is a huge issue in this club going forward.
Now, I am a huge Slaven Bilic fan, he was my number one choice to replace Sam Allardyce, due to his connection with the club and also because you could tell he's well liked by his players which is important to any clubs long-term success. Now two seasons on and a lot of criticism is being labelled at his tactics, playing players out of position and training methods. This has left me slightly disillusioned. In my opinion West Ham, really is a difficult club to manage. It is almost as bad as managing England. You have fans that think our team is better than it actually is and a chairman that is far too involved with the transfer business. However, I can acknowledge and accept that Slaven has made a great deal of mistakes over the past season in particular. I agree that not sorting out the right back position until this summer has caused major problems and has been completely exploited by the opposition, but hopefully now Zabaleta has signed, things will improve.
The criticism of style of play, again in my opinion, I feel it's harsh. He's no doubt tried to implement a far more expansive style of football since taking over. However, it's pretty apparent that losing Dimitri Payet has had a major impact on the teams confidence and belief in the style of football that the manager wants to play. The efficiency of passing the ball has dropped significantly and now certain limitations of players is being shown on a regular basis, hence why we concede a great deal of goals from individual mistakes. This again is why I desperately wanted us to sign William Carvalho, as he has strength and composure in abundance.
The training methods, have well documented in the media with criticism over its intensity. Personally, I do take that with a pinch of salt to some degree. It came off the back of Slaven's own comments after the Arsenal game last season, when he openly and honestly criticised the players. However anyone with a bit of nous would know it was to get a reaction of out his players which he did. Slaven is also faced with a great deal of injury problems to his team on a regular basis and I remember in the first season, it was believed he was training the players too hard, with double sessions and that was causing injuries. He has openly said previously that it is a catch-22 situation with training because he fears a lot of key personnel getting injured, so he is merely trying to find a middle ground. It has been mentioned before about the facilities at previously Chadwell Heath and now Rush Green not being up to scratch in comparison to the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham. For me, I think we missed a great opportunity to build a training complex around the London Stadium, where we could have had our first team and youth teams under one roof, but again is something that would cost a great deal of money that the owners simply don't have. However, hopefully with the appointment of Gary Lewin, we will see some sort of improvement in keeping players off the treatment table, which therefore can increase the intensity of training.
I know we find ourselves in a dire situation at present and I know they'll still be fans that want Slaven Bilic gone and replaced with ideally Rafa Benitez, but it's far too early in the season to be making such a rash decision. Common sense says, see where we are after 10 games and ultimately it's a results business so should things not pick up, the manager as always bites the bullet. My personal opinion though is that with the current personnel available, even the likes of Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, wouldn't be able to break the top six and until either a takeover occurs or investment comes on board, it is a pointless change anyway. I genuinely do believe Slav and the players will turn things around this season, starting with finally our first home game of the season against Huddersfield. It's vital we get behind the team a week on Monday!

Sporting President Bruno de Carvalho has urged David Sullivan to provide evidence of West Ham's bid for William Carvalho. The 45-year-old, speaking on Sporting TV challenged Hammers fans to force Sullivan to provide documentary proof of a purported bid - which Sporting say failed to materialise, despite the West Ham co-owner's insistence. And the outspoken Carvalho was in no mood to tone down the belligerent rhetoric started by fellow director Nuno Saraiva, who called Sullivan a "liar" following West Ham's claims that they were offered the player on transfer deadline day. "Where is it? The proof?" Carvalho blasted. "These messengers, these offended virgins, the president of West Ham - we must tell the truth!"

Sky Sports have released two emails that appear to confirm that West Ham made offers for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho. The emails appear to show that West Ham chairman David Sullivan did send an offer to Sporting, which was valued at £23m – in three instalments. The email also shows that West Ham offered a 10% clause in the contract allowing Sporting to profit if West Ham ever decided to sell him in the future. This all comes after Sporting claimed Sullivan was lying when he released a statement claiming Sporting had accepted an offer. Sullivan said on the West Ham website that Sporting had accepted an offer on deadline day but there was not enough time to complete a deal. Sporting then hit back, claiming that West Ham did not make an offer for the midfielder – with their sporting director calling David Gold and David Sullivan "the Dildo brothers".

West Ham United are a million miles from where their under fire owners envisioned them being this season. "The imbalance in the squad and the crazy wages the Icelandics were paying that brought the club to its knees." "We believe in our managers and give them the time and support they need." "We have a seven-year plan to get them into the Champions League." "Over the next seven years we will spend a lot of money."
Those were just some of the bold statements made by David Sullivan when he and fellow co-owner David Gold completed their takeover of West Ham in January 2010. That interview - as reported at the time by the Guardian - gave West Ham fans new hope after the doomed Icelandic regime. But now seven years on West Ham are in complete disarray at the bottom of the Premier League with no points and a minus eight goal difference. It is still early days in the new season but the stark reality is West Ham look a million miles from the Champions League side Sullivan pledged they would be by now. And much of that is down to the board failing to deliver the big money signings promised when the club left their Boleyn Ground home of 112 years for the former Olympic Stadium last summer.
A net spend of just £10million in the transfer market this summer has given rise to a groundswell of anger and vitriol from supporters who plan protests at their first home game of the season against Huddersfield on Monday night. The owners had done a good job of stabilising West Ham of that there is no doubt.
But they are equally guilty of destabilising them with broken promises over the move to the London Stadium, lack of net investment and their very public way of doing business. "We are deeply and passionately involved in West Ham. It is where I have wanted to be for 20 years," Sullivan told BBC Five Live back in 2010, as reported by the Guardian. That was two years before the London Olympics and it was clear then the stadium was at the forefront of the owners' future plans.
"It is the natural home for West Ham," he added. "We hope to persuade the government to let us move into the new Olympic Stadium and I believe the people of east London would support that move."

Support it they did, selling out 52,000 season tickets in each of the first two seasons. But West Ham fans do not take kindly to being taken for granted.

Meanwhile, Everton, the club Arnautovic admitted to snubbing in 2016 despite personal pleas from Toffees boss Ronald Koeman (The Sun), are embarking upon the most exciting era in the club's recent history. They spent more money than ever before in the transfer window, bringing in proven Premier League talent in Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson not to mention youngsters with vast potential a la Sandro Ramirez, Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen and Michael Keane. Beleaguered Slaven Bilic had been looking forward to having a fully fit squad for West Ham to bring to the London Stadium on Monday for the visit of Huddersfield but that's unlikely to be the case. Injured trio Edimilson Fernandes, Andre Ayew and Manuel Lanzini are all unlikely to feature as the Premier League returns to Stratford, while Marko Arnautovic is suspended. There is some good news though as Andy Carroll could take a place on the bench after another long injury lay-off, while Winston Reid is also pushing for inclusion after recovering from a calf problem he picked up in the warm-up down at Southampton. With two attack minded players seemingly ruled out of Monday's visit of the Terriers, Bilic will have to delve deep into his reserves to make up the numbers with his thin squad already stretched. It's a chance for Diafra Sakho to prove himself after his meeting with Bilic following the striker going AWOL on the final day of the transfer window as he pushed a move through to Rennes which never materialised. Michail Antonio also continues his comeback from injury but there is no place for Declan Rice, who makes way for Cheikhou Kouyate after the Senegalese midfielder completed 90 minutes for country in midweek.

Slaven Bilic has been given a needed boost with Andy Carroll ready to return for West Ham's first home game of the season. The Croatian manager is under growing pressure after losing the first three Premier League games of the season – all away from the London Stadium . Carroll has been out since April with a groin strain – and last week gave court evidence after an attempted armed robbery against him. And head of medical services Gary Lewin said the England striker will be back on bench to face Huddersfield on Monday night. "He has been training for just over two weeks and with the international break it will be even more by the time we get to Huddersfield, so he will be ready to start playing," said the former England physio. "When he does come back, it will be a gradual thing, you can't just throw him in at the deep end. We did it with Diafra Sakho, he played for 20 minutes, then half an hour and then an hour. "Andy will be the same, if we don't do that then he will break down."
Former Manchester City boss Mancini, who is now at Zenit St Petersburg, is joint favourite to replace Bilic along with former target Rafa Benitez. Former Hammers defender Danny Gabbidon said: "I look at Slaven at the moment and he looks a shadow of his former self. "From what I hear Slaven had pretty much thrown the towel in with the words he spoke in the dressing room to the players after the Newcastle defeat. He really is on borrowed time now."

The West Ham United youngster is the real deal and deserves a chance to prove that. West Ham United fans have been keen to see Spanish striker Toni Martinez in action for the first-team for quite some time, and this month could finally see the 20-year-old make his senior bow. The Hammers take on Bolton Wanderers in the third round of the EFL Cup on 19 September and West Ham boss Slaven Bilic would be wise to throw Martinez into the starting line-up and see what he can do.
After all, the youngster wasted little time impressing for West Ham's under-23 side following his arrival from Valencia, scoring 16 goals in just 17 matches.
A loan spell at Oxford United last time out also proved his worth, with Martinez scoring three goals and providing two assists, including FA Cup strikes against both Newcastle United and Middlesbrough. While West Ham now have additional goal-scoring options in the form of Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic, the EFL Cup gives Bilic the perfect chance to blood his youngsters.

The Huddersfield match this weekend is a must win for West Ham but they may have to do it without the injured Edimilson Fernandes and Manuel Lanzini. As if Slaven Bilic didn't have enough to contend with ahead of the Premier League clash against Huddersfield Town this weekend, the West Ham United manager now also has a selection headache. That is because football.london reports that both Edimilson Fernandes and Manuel Lanzini are major doubts for the game against the Terriers with ankle and knee injuries respectively. It is believed that Fernandes' issue is a sprain, although currently it is not known how severe it is, while Lanzini pulled out of Argentina's latest squad with a knee problem. With Winston Reid already out, Andy Carroll and Andre Ayew also doubts and Marko Arnautovic serving the second match of his three-game suspension, Bilic's options are being stretched to breaking point. Central midfield is becoming a major issue with Fernandes and Lanzini both now expected to be absent, with captain Mark Noble, youngster Declan Rice, Pedro Obiang and Cheikhou Kouyate having all been used there at some point this season - all to little or no effect with the Hammers having fallen to three defeats.
It makes the East London club's inability to complete a deal for Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho, as outlined by Sky Sports, now seem all the more costly as Bilic struggles to find a solution in the middle. It feels like anything but a victory against Huddersfield at the London Stadium will cost the Croatian his job, but first he needs to work out who is playing and where.

The Hammers were strongly linked with a move for the Portuguese midfielder, who has been a transfer target for Arsenal in the past. But the deal failed to materialise and West Ham co-owner David Sullivan was called a "liar" and a "parasite" by Sporting director Nuno Saraiva for claiming it failed because they did not have time for a medical And Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho has now given his opinion on the situation and set a challenge to Hammers fans.
Carvalho, speaking to Sporting TV in Portugal, said: "Where is it? Proof? Now, approaches, for sure. "I've had them for almost the whole squad: West Ham supporters call Mr. David Sullivan and his brother, the Dildo Brothers… "These messengers, these offended virgins, the president of West Ham… We must tell the truth!"
Despite missing out on Carvalho, Grzegorz Krychowiak and Renato Sanches, Sullivan insisted recently manager Slaven Bilic was happy with their transfer business.
"Grzegorz Krychowiak and Renato Sanches were both offered to the manager before their switches elsewhere, but he told us that he is happy with the squad he has," Sullivan said. "As a Board we are behind Slaven, and he believes he has the tools to turn around our form and rectify our disappointing start to the season."
Sullivan is already set to launch legal proceedings against Sporting Lisbon after been branded a liar and a parasite. Saraiva said: "David Sullivan lies. At Sporting Clube de Portugal, as has already been said by its president, no proposal has been made for the player William Carvalho. The football industry is not the set of an adult film in which all obscenities are allowed. So the boss of a club demands a lot more than this intellectual pornography. "Mr David Sullivan has a duty to prove what he says. That is why Sporting Clube de Portugal challenges him to publicly show the proposals he claims to have been made as well as the evidence that Sporting CP received them. "One thing is certain: Sporting CP, as has already been said, does not cut the legs off its players. But we have nothing to do with the performance of entrepreneurs or relatives who live at the expense of players and who are offering them to clubs as if they were cheap supermarket merchandise.
"It creates regrettable situations that have already forced the sporting club of Portugal to take drastic measures to defend itself from these characters who parasitise the lives of some players."

Let's not lie to ourselves - West Ham's start to the Premier League season thus far has been pretty dismal. The Hammers don't have a bottom-of-the-league squad, but that's exactly where they find themselves after three matches of the campaign - and that's not good enough. There's a lot of fingers to be pointed whenever a side is in a poor run of form, and this situation is absolutely no different, as many will already be aware. The board, Slaven Bilic, a poor transfer window - they've all been blamed recently by West Ham fans desperate to see their side perform and get results on the pitch. That's all they're asking.
However, it must be remembered that the Hammers haven't yet played at home thanks to the IAAF World Athletics Championships being hosted at the London Stadium at the end of the summer. And a return to home comforts could be exactly what West Ham as a club need right now. For the fans, for some of the fans at least, it will be a chance to get their strong feelings off their chest directly in front of the players - with protests planned by some of the most disheartened of supporters in the fanbase. Each to their own, and if those fans want to protest they have a right to - but regardless the vast majority inside the stadium won't be.
But, even so, there will be an immense pressure on these West Ham players to put in a performance in front of their home fans for the first time this season - at the very least to put in a hard day's work. Against a newly-promoted Huddersfield side the Hammers support won't be accepting anything less than a win at home, despite the visitors having a strong start to their first campaign in the Premier League. The West Ham players will either crumble under that pressure - or galvanise themselves to put in a performance akin to something the quality of the squad shows they should be producing. The players have a chance to prove to the rest of the league why they should be competing much higher up the table, a chance to prove to the fans why they were so excited about this season earlier in the transfer window. Playing at home again should be exactly what's needed to see what this squad of players, and the manager in fact, are really made of.

Bilic should have close to a fully fit squad to choose from although Marko Arnautovic is suspended and Andre Ayew has been injured on international duty.
Andy Carroll and Manuel Lanzini should be fit while Michail Antonio and Cheikhou Kouyate will be stronger after getting another two weeks of training under their belts. Reports claim defeat to Huddersfield could be the final straw for Bilic.

West Ham United pair Marko Arnautovic and Cheikhou Kouyate both played 90 minutes as Austria and Senegal both picked up draws in their latest FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday night.
Arnautovic's Austria came from behind to claim a share of the spoils against Georgia in European qualifying Group D. The Georgians led through Valeriane Gvilla's early opener, until Austria's Louis Schaub levelled two minutes before the break. A final scoreline of 1-1 means Austria have now drawn three of their eight qualifiers and now sit five points adrift of James' Collins Wales, who occupy second place behind Serbia.
Meanwhile, in Ouagadougou, Kouyate started in midfield for Senegal, who first came from behind and were then pegged back by Burkina Faso in their 2-2 draw.
Ismaila Sarr and Sadio Mane were on target for Senegal, but a last gasp own goal by Papa Seydou N'Diaye means they remain a point off top spot in Africa's Group D.
James Collins, Andre Ayew and Arthur Masuaku were not involved as Wales defeated Moldova, Ghana beat Congo and DR Congo drew with Tunisia respectively.
There was more success for West Ham's Irish U21 contingent, as Josh Cullen and Declan Rice started in the Boys In Green's 3-1 UEFA U21 Championship qualifying victory in Azerbaijan. Ireland, captained by Cullen, now top Group 5 with two wins from two, although tougher tests against the likes of Germany and Israel await.
Finally, Dan Kemp was on the bench as England U19s were defeated 3-1 by Germany. The Hammers youngster played a key role in the Young Lions' 7-1 victory against Poland last week, providing two assists.

Cresswell: England experiences have boosted my confidence

Aaron Cresswell is eager to bring his positive England experiences back to West Ham United. The Hammers left-back was part of the Three Lions squad for the recent victories over Malta and Slovakia – the third time he has been called-up by his country – which left Gareth Southgate's side just two points from securing their place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals. And while Cresswell was an unused substitute for both successes, he confirmed that being part of both wins was good for his confidence after a challenging start to the Premier League season. "At the minute, it's not going great at West Ham with three defeats in our first three Premier League games," confirmed the No3. "But I'm looking forward to getting back in with the lads, as I'm sure Joe [Hart] is as well, getting back on the training pitch and working hard to do what we have to do to beat Huddersfield on Monday. "I'm also looking forward to getting back to London Stadium and hopefully we can give something back to the fans, get those three points and kick-start our season."

Reflecting on Monday's come-from-behind 2-1 win over Slovakia, Cresswell was pleased with how his England squad-mates handled a potentially tricky situation after falling behind inside three minutes. "Obviously they scored first very early on and it showed great character to come from behind, get into the lead," he observed. "The main thing for us was to get the three points and move away from Slovakia in the group, which we've done. "We're only two points away from qualifying and we all believe we will get the job done in the next international break."
England complete their Group F campaign by hosting Slovenia at Wembley on 5 October before travelling to Lithuania three days later. Cresswell and company go into those games five points clear of second-place Slovakia with a superior goal difference, knowing one victory or two draws will be enough to take them to a 15th World Cup finals.

Declan Rice labelled Tuesday night a "proud moment" as he helped the Republic of Ireland's U21s to a win on his competitive debut. The teenager started and completed 90 minutes in the Boys in Green's 3-1 UEFA European Championship qualifying victory over Azerbaijan. Noel King's side now top their qualifying group after they added Tuesday's three points to their win over Kosovo in March ahead of the 2019 tournament to be held in Italy and San Marino. Rice has been involved in all four of the Hammers' matches so far this campaign, impressing in a central midfield role, and could make his London Stadium debut on Monday against Huddersfield Town should he be selected by manager Slaven Bilic. The 18-year-old reflected on a moment to remember representing his country and looked ahead to the vital Premier League fixture. "It was a very proud moment for me and my family, to make my competitive debut for the U21s," the youngster said. "The start I've had to the season has been great and it's another part that I will always remember. "It would be a dream come true to play at London Stadium for the first time in a first team game if I get that opportunity on Monday. And the 18-year-old enjoyed teaming up with Cullen once again in his new, more advanced, role. "You know what you're going to get with Josh, and he's a fantastic player," Rice continued. "He's had a couple of good years on loan and will be hoping to do it again in the Championship. He's great to play alongside. "To be honest, I'm really liking playing there [in midfield], and I can show off more of my ability there, in the middle of the park. "But wherever any manager wants me to play, I'll always play there and put in 100 per cent."
Bilic's men return to action on Monday after more than a fortnight without a game due to the international break when Huddersfield Town visit east London.
And despite the Terriers' promising early form and the Hammers' disappointment, Rice believes his team has it in them to turn things around. "We just have to stay positive and keep working hard," he explained. "We have have to try and make things right. "For me personally, I feel like I can take back a lot of confidence from the international break having made my debut and a lot of the other boys won too. Many are now saying what the likes of Brother Enfield and myself have said for years regarding G&S.
They are spin merchants supreme. Masters of launching phantom 'bids' they know full well the selling Club won't accept. Another trick they have been known for, and I believe they still do, is not being able to agree personal terms for a player they are 'attempting' to sign. In other words, using every trick in the book to make sure a 'bid' is not concluded. Every summer transfer window, before season ticket renewal time, leak after leak about launching 'stunning 'bids' for this star or that appears in the media. They certainly know every trick in the book on how to manipulate the media, thanks to their years owning The Daily Sport. Hammers fans everywhere are tired of the constant bullshit, and as a result there is plenty of anti-Board sentiment and David Sullivan has copped most of it. The Sporting Lisbon Director, Nuno Saraiva, called him "A lying parasite and an 'intellectual' pornographer".

Good old Nuno gave him the kicking he fully deserves. Sorry Nuno, but you were just covering your own arse. I will explain why in a bit. No, I have not had it all right regarding G&S. Neither has anyone else.
Let's have a look at things closely, trying to separate the truth from fiction. This transfer window was always going to be a tough ask, having to get rid of the dross brought to The Club last summer. The Board and Slaven have taken big stick over this. The question on my lips is why has the chief scout, Tony Henry, been allowed to escape any flak? We actually did well to shift most of them this summer. I'm afraid I do not believe that we made good money on the likes of Randolph and Fletcher. I think that was just positive spin, when in reality I think we made very little profit on the players we shifted. The thing that puzzles me about the transfer window is this. For 75% of the window we had been doing so well! Not a word from Sullivan or young Jack. In came Zabaleta, Hart, Arnautovic and Hernandez. I, like many of you, were on top of the world. Indeed supporters from other clubs had told me that we had done very impressive business. All seemed well, most were happy, and there was no talk of net spend then. Indeed many were saying "Its brilliant business not spending much money, and bringing these four in". Slaven could not stop singing The Board's praises.
Now it feels like we had spent months trying to reach the summit of Mount Everest, yet 500 yards from the summit we turned round and came back. Why? I think as per normal, The Chairman sat down with Slaven to discuss transfer targets and finances. I also think at about the same time Liverpool made contact about buying Manuel Lanzini, thinking that Coutinho would be off to Barcelona. Bilic would have been informed, and he would have had to sanction any potential move. Not the Chairman. I have an inkling the manager gave the nod for the player to be sold, providing he could spend the funds. Bilic would then have identified potential targets and discussed possible fan backlash with The Board. This is where William Carvalho comes in. I don't think that he was on the original list of transfer targets, agreed to by Slaven and The Board. I think that the talks must of escalated to the stage that a fee was agreed in principle regarding the sale of Lanzini. I think if Lanzini had been sold we would have brought in Carvalho and two more quality additions.
At the same time, despite what Nuno says, a similar scenario was unfolding between West Ham and Sporting. Almost like putting an offer on a house pending the sale of yours. Hence Carvalho, dropping out of Sporting matches with mysterious injuries. Likewise Lanzini at ours. Even to the point that Lanzini, dropped out of Argentina's match with a knee injury just before transfer deadline day. Yet just after deadline day, The Jewel made a miraculous recovery.
Funny that.
I like many spent the whole transfer window worrying that we would sell Lanzini, but the simple fact is every single Club is a selling Club. You have to be prepared to sell any player and have replacements in mind you can swoop for should you have to sell. The likes of Southampton and Spurs are experts at this, and it has not affected their on the field performances that much. While expecting three more faces to arrive we started trimming the squad to make way for Carvalho and the rest.
Tick, Tock the clock went on. No sale on Coutinho, no sale of Lanzini, budget already spent. No money for Carvalho and one or two others.
This was about two weeks before the window shut. It seems as though round about that time Bilic adopted the attitude of Lanzini gone or not he still wanted Carvalho. Hence the public courting of the player and constant talk of net spend from Bilic. No doubt this would not have gone down well with David Sullivan.
Right up to deadline day people everywhere were expecting Coutinho to be sold to Barcelona, which would have led to a catalogue of events transfer wise. Which I'm convinced would have led to William Carvalho playing his football in Claret and Blue this season. Unfortunately this has led to us having an unbalanced squad, lacking in pace and depth, without the available funds to conclude the last few deals. Still, it's by no means a terrible squad. It's pretty clear that the relationship between Bilic and Sullivan is toxic as a fallout over the Carvalho affair, which has resulted in Sullivan throwing Bilic under the bus. Just like Grant, Allardyce, and Zola it seems as though The Board are so tight fisted that they want to force Slaven to quit and thus avoid compensation. Sorry, but that is the behaviour of yobs! Do you think any decent manager would want to work in such a set up? Not on your life!
As for our manager, I like the charismatic Croat, but let's not pretend he is St Peter and all that. He couldn't wait to leave the Club for Everton after one season. On the pitch itself, while playing for Croatia in the World Cup semi-final against France, while jostling for a corner he got the faintest of touches against Lauren Blanc, dived and got Blanc sent off. So just like any human being he has his flaws. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes? Maybe Sullivan feels he got thrown under the bus first, hence the statement on the Official site last night. Who knows the truth about that one? Is Sullivan telling porkies or did Bilic really turn down Renato Sanches and Grzegorz krchowiak? I find that difficult to believe. Or is there the remote possibility that Bilic threw a massive sulk because he never got Carvalho and indeed did turn them down? A bit like a child wanting Nike trainer's and been giving a cheaper brand, them binning them in vindictive spite.
What I do know is this. At just past eleven when the transfer window closed, I poured myself a double Jack Daniels and Coke Zero, ran a bath and soaked myself. Then just like that I let out a LOUD FART! BUBBLES EVERYWHERE! Then I belted out Bubbles, had a good laugh, shook my head, and shouted West Ham!
I'm ready to go to war for OUR great Club as always. Bring on Huddersfield. Let's get those three points. Like the desert needs the rain, West Ham (not G&S) needs YOU! Now more than ever, we desperately need to hold our nerve and really get behind the team. We CANNOT afford not too! A toxic atmosphere is just going to lead to disaster, on and off the pitch. What decent player will want to join us if we are in the bottom three come January? Or what decent manager will come to us at the end of the season if we've been relegated? We CANNOT afford relegation at any cost. If we did get relegated we could end up like Coventry. As for The Board, it's not been all bad under them. One only has to look at the squad from five years ago and compare it to today, and one must acknowledge progress has been made. It's just the lies, lies, sweet little lies that piss everybody off.
As for Jack Sullivan, good luck in learning the ropes at the club. David Sullivan JNR, with whom I have had sporadic communication with, I will only say he's a top lad! Your Mum and Dad MUST be doing something right!

With the transfer now closed, I feel this is the perfect opportunity to access where the club is in terms of progression and discuss what I believe our the fundamental issues with how the club is run.
After an underwhelming first season at our new home, I went into the summer hoping that the owners would learn from the poor recruitment that took place both in the summer and January, by purchasing players that would take this club onto the next level. We were promised that they would be playing their cards closer to the chest this time around, but through Director of Recruitment, Tony Henry, stated we were looking at bringing in quality over quantity with a maximum of three players coming in. I was immediately concerned by this statement because I felt that was simply just bringing the players to fill in the gapping gaps in the team and not looking to improve in every position with better players.
The beginning of the window saw us finally fill our problematic right back position for many of a year with Pablo Zabaleta joining, adding much needed experience and leadership to the squad. After a frustrating month in June, where fans alike began to panic that we would not bring in a top class striker, eventually deals for Marco Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez were concluded. Arnautovic has all the makings to be a top quality player but has blown hot and cold at Inter Milan, Werder Bremen and Stoke. However the general conscientious was that he would take away a huge burden on Manuel Lanzini to create chances and go some way at attempting to replace Dimitri Payet. Hernandez whose goals to minute's ratio at football's elite clubs speaks for itself and with West Ham strikers failing to reach double figures for goals for over a decade, can only be considered a superb bit of business. England's number one, Joe Hart also joined on a year's long loan deal. It is fair to say that in the recent couple of seasons, the goalkeepers highly rated reputation has fallen, but I do feel that if he can regain some form he is certainly an upgrade on both Adrian and the departing Randolph, who both had mistake ridden campaigns. The final signing of the window saw what has become commonplace as the 'one for the future signing' in Sead Haksabanovic. Like Edimilson Fernandes, I expect Sead to be in and around the first team, making the odd appearance from the bench.
The transfer window, we have also seen sixteen players depart, with all the permanent ones proving that they were simply not good enough for a club that is supposed to be progressing to the next level and we did make very good money on the majority of these departures.
Overall, I feel that the signings have been able to plug much needed gaps in the starting 11, but we simply haven't done anywhere near enough business to strengthen an already stretched squad that consistently suffers injuries to key personnel. I feel we needed to buy at least one more top level striker, as in Carroll and Sakho, it's the case of how many games we can get out of them, rather than relying on them week in week out. Plus with Sakho's latest display of unprofessionalism, I hope he rots in the reserves. We have also seen three strikers depart and only brought one in, which simply leaves us short once again. Furthermore, I feel Hernandez is far more effective playing with a striker, than up top by himself.
I also feel that we need to bring in an additional creative wide player to replace both Feghouli and Snodgrass, as we really do lack creativity and players that can beat a man since Payet departed. In addition, we needed to bring in a top class defensive midfielder, to protect our shaky defence, as well as someone who is far more comfortable with the ball under pressure than our current midfielders. Finally I feel that we needed to bring in a new centre back, as without Reid, the other three defenders lack pace, concentration and composure with the ball.
So now assessing where the club is and where it is supposed to be progressing too, I am simply left disillusioned by the following two areas.
The Owners
Back in 2010, David Sullivan and David Gold set out a plan to take the club to the next level, which saw an ambition proposal of the Champions League by 2017. Since then, we've obviously had a major rebuild and period of stabilisation, which was much needed. We also secured the former Olympic Stadium, which had been portrayed as a key ingredient to this club growing in stature, allowing us to purchase better players and ultimately become a side that can compete in Europe on a regular basis. Unfortunately this has turned out to nothing but a pipe dream. Now, I'm not disputing that David Sullivan works tirelessly in the transfer market, but ultimately he doesn't have the finances to go out and purchase what is required to take this club forward. Only last night he put out a ludicrous statement on the official website, defending the transfer policy. It was claimed that a deal could have been done for the defensive midfielder that the team has been crying out for and the manager desperately wanted, William Carvalho. However we apparently ran out of time to conclude the deal due to not being able to complete a medical, with the player being away on International duty. Simply that is nonsense, as Leicester City have shown with Adrien Silva, who was also with the Portugal squad, the medical could have been completed after the window, providing the relevant paperwork for the signing was completed. Had we desperately wanted to get Carvalho over the line we would have.
Unfortunately with the owners, there is always an excuse and some form of justification for the not sealing the very best signings. David Gold, spoke on Talksport about having to find the money to do deals, which is frankly alarming for a club that is trying to progress. Karren Brady spoke on Sky Sports' The Debate show about the club having to do sensible business deals, citing disdain at the likes of Manchester City for being able to just splash the cash on anyone and everyone. The reality is though, in order for this club to go to the next level, we need further investment. We simply do not have owners that have the finances to compete with the now top seven clubs and as a result our stagnating, with the hope of finishing 8th at best. To have an outgoing expenditure lower than Watford and Leicester and barely above Brighton and Huddersfield is a sad indictment on the ambition that we have shown. Man City and Chelsea have proven that the only way you become a big team is by financial wealth. With Everton, now securing a takeover, it going to become even harder for us to progress and I am left envious at them with the transfer business they have done in compared to ours. Make no mistake about this is just the start of something great for that club and my fear is we're getting left behind. Now I'm not suggesting we need to riot and force them to sell the club, but I hope sooner rather than later, that the owners accept they cannot take the club any further forward and we attract a huge takeover opportunity that will give us what us fans deserve which is success.
The Manager Situation
Like all West Ham fans I am extremely disappointed with the start of the campaign. The Manchester United game was always going to be an extremely difficult game. They have brought very well in their quest to get back to the top and we had key personnel missing through injury. When you play against the top six sides, you've got to be at your best and they've got to be below bar in order to get a result. Unfortunately, after Obiang's mistake we fell apart. The Southampton game, Slaven rightly made changes and frustratingly the players that came in, didn't take their chance with fundamentally bad mistakes costing us goals once again. Even with that we showed great character and had it not been for poor officiating, we would have got the point our 2nd half performance deserved. The Newcastle game, we were just simply outclassed but fans need to realise that West Ham throughout our history have often produced dreadful performances, so it's nothing new. As a result however, a lot of pressure is now at Slaven Bilic's door, with a vocal minority now demanding he be sacked, with the belief he is a huge issue in this club going forward.
Now, I am a huge Slaven Bilic fan, he was my number one choice to replace Sam Allardyce, due to his connection with the club and also because you could tell he's well liked by his players which is important to any clubs long-term success. Now two seasons on and a lot of criticism is being labelled at his tactics, playing players out of position and training methods. This has left me slightly disillusioned. In my opinion West Ham, really is a difficult club to manage. It is almost as bad as managing England. You have fans that think our team is better than it actually is and a chairman that is far too involved with the transfer business. However, I can acknowledge and accept that Slaven has made a great deal of mistakes over the past season in particular. I agree that not sorting out the right back position until this summer has caused major problems and has been completely exploited by the opposition, but hopefully now Zabaleta has signed, things will improve.
The criticism of style of play, again in my opinion, I feel it's harsh. He's no doubt tried to implement a far more expansive style of football since taking over. However, it's pretty apparent that losing Dimitri Payet has had a major impact on the teams confidence and belief in the style of football that the manager wants to play. The efficiency of passing the ball has dropped significantly and now certain limitations of players is being shown on a regular basis, hence why we concede a great deal of goals from individual mistakes. This again is why I desperately wanted us to sign William Carvalho, as he has strength and composure in abundance.
The training methods, have well documented in the media with criticism over its intensity. Personally, I do take that with a pinch of salt to some degree. It came off the back of Slaven's own comments after the Arsenal game last season, when he openly and honestly criticised the players. However anyone with a bit of nous would know it was to get a reaction of out his players which he did. Slaven is also faced with a great deal of injury problems to his team on a regular basis and I remember in the first season, it was believed he was training the players too hard, with double sessions and that was causing injuries. He has openly said previously that it is a catch-22 situation with training because he fears a lot of key personnel getting injured, so he is merely trying to find a middle ground. It has been mentioned before about the facilities at previously Chadwell Heath and now Rush Green not being up to scratch in comparison to the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham. For me, I think we missed a great opportunity to build a training complex around the London Stadium, where we could have had our first team and youth teams under one roof, but again is something that would cost a great deal of money that the owners simply don't have. However, hopefully with the appointment of Gary Lewin, we will see some sort of improvement in keeping players off the treatment table, which therefore can increase the intensity of training.
I know we find ourselves in a dire situation at present and I know they'll still be fans that want Slaven Bilic gone and replaced with ideally Rafa Benitez, but it's far too early in the season to be making such a rash decision. Common sense says, see where we are after 10 games and ultimately it's a results business so should things not pick up, the manager as always bites the bullet. My personal opinion though is that with the current personnel available, even the likes of Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, wouldn't be able to break the top six and until either a takeover occurs or investment comes on board, it is a pointless change anyway. I genuinely do believe Slav and the players will turn things around this season, starting with finally our first home game of the season against Huddersfield. It's vital we get behind the team a week on Monday!

Sporting President Bruno de Carvalho has urged David Sullivan to provide evidence of West Ham's bid for William Carvalho. The 45-year-old, speaking on Sporting TV challenged Hammers fans to force Sullivan to provide documentary proof of a purported bid - which Sporting say failed to materialise, despite the West Ham co-owner's insistence. And the outspoken Carvalho was in no mood to tone down the belligerent rhetoric started by fellow director Nuno Saraiva, who called Sullivan a "liar" following West Ham's claims that they were offered the player on transfer deadline day. "Where is it? The proof?" Carvalho blasted. "These messengers, these offended virgins, the president of West Ham - we must tell the truth!"

Sky Sports have released two emails that appear to confirm that West Ham made offers for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho. The emails appear to show that West Ham chairman David Sullivan did send an offer to Sporting, which was valued at £23m – in three instalments. The email also shows that West Ham offered a 10% clause in the contract allowing Sporting to profit if West Ham ever decided to sell him in the future. This all comes after Sporting claimed Sullivan was lying when he released a statement claiming Sporting had accepted an offer. Sullivan said on the West Ham website that Sporting had accepted an offer on deadline day but there was not enough time to complete a deal. Sporting then hit back, claiming that West Ham did not make an offer for the midfielder – with their sporting director calling David Gold and David Sullivan "the Dildo brothers".

West Ham United are a million miles from where their under fire owners envisioned them being this season. "The imbalance in the squad and the crazy wages the Icelandics were paying that brought the club to its knees." "We believe in our managers and give them the time and support they need." "We have a seven-year plan to get them into the Champions League." "Over the next seven years we will spend a lot of money."
Those were just some of the bold statements made by David Sullivan when he and fellow co-owner David Gold completed their takeover of West Ham in January 2010. That interview - as reported at the time by the Guardian - gave West Ham fans new hope after the doomed Icelandic regime. But now seven years on West Ham are in complete disarray at the bottom of the Premier League with no points and a minus eight goal difference. It is still early days in the new season but the stark reality is West Ham look a million miles from the Champions League side Sullivan pledged they would be by now. And much of that is down to the board failing to deliver the big money signings promised when the club left their Boleyn Ground home of 112 years for the former Olympic Stadium last summer.
A net spend of just £10million in the transfer market this summer has given rise to a groundswell of anger and vitriol from supporters who plan protests at their first home game of the season against Huddersfield on Monday night. The owners had done a good job of stabilising West Ham of that there is no doubt.
But they are equally guilty of destabilising them with broken promises over the move to the London Stadium, lack of net investment and their very public way of doing business. "We are deeply and passionately involved in West Ham. It is where I have wanted to be for 20 years," Sullivan told BBC Five Live back in 2010, as reported by the Guardian. That was two years before the London Olympics and it was clear then the stadium was at the forefront of the owners' future plans.
"It is the natural home for West Ham," he added. "We hope to persuade the government to let us move into the new Olympic Stadium and I believe the people of east London would support that move."

Support it they did, selling out 52,000 season tickets in each of the first two seasons. But West Ham fans do not take kindly to being taken for granted.

Meanwhile, Everton, the club Arnautovic admitted to snubbing in 2016 despite personal pleas from Toffees boss Ronald Koeman (The Sun), are embarking upon the most exciting era in the club's recent history. They spent more money than ever before in the transfer window, bringing in proven Premier League talent in Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson not to mention youngsters with vast potential a la Sandro Ramirez, Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen and Michael Keane. Beleaguered Slaven Bilic had been looking forward to having a fully fit squad for West Ham to bring to the London Stadium on Monday for the visit of Huddersfield but that's unlikely to be the case. Injured trio Edimilson Fernandes, Andre Ayew and Manuel Lanzini are all unlikely to feature as the Premier League returns to Stratford, while Marko Arnautovic is suspended. There is some good news though as Andy Carroll could take a place on the bench after another long injury lay-off, while Winston Reid is also pushing for inclusion after recovering from a calf problem he picked up in the warm-up down at Southampton. With two attack minded players seemingly ruled out of Monday's visit of the Terriers, Bilic will have to delve deep into his reserves to make up the numbers with his thin squad already stretched. It's a chance for Diafra Sakho to prove himself after his meeting with Bilic following the striker going AWOL on the final day of the transfer window as he pushed a move through to Rennes which never materialised. Michail Antonio also continues his comeback from injury but there is no place for Declan Rice, who makes way for Cheikhou Kouyate after the Senegalese midfielder completed 90 minutes for country in midweek.

Slaven Bilic has been given a needed boost with Andy Carroll ready to return for West Ham's first home game of the season. The Croatian manager is under growing pressure after losing the first three Premier League games of the season – all away from the London Stadium . Carroll has been out since April with a groin strain – and last week gave court evidence after an attempted armed robbery against him. And head of medical services Gary Lewin said the England striker will be back on bench to face Huddersfield on Monday night. "He has been training for just over two weeks and with the international break it will be even more by the time we get to Huddersfield, so he will be ready to start playing," said the former England physio. "When he does come back, it will be a gradual thing, you can't just throw him in at the deep end. We did it with Diafra Sakho, he played for 20 minutes, then half an hour and then an hour. "Andy will be the same, if we don't do that then he will break down."
Former Manchester City boss Mancini, who is now at Zenit St Petersburg, is joint favourite to replace Bilic along with former target Rafa Benitez. Former Hammers defender Danny Gabbidon said: "I look at Slaven at the moment and he looks a shadow of his former self. "From what I hear Slaven had pretty much thrown the towel in with the words he spoke in the dressing room to the players after the Newcastle defeat. He really is on borrowed time now."

The West Ham United youngster is the real deal and deserves a chance to prove that. West Ham United fans have been keen to see Spanish striker Toni Martinez in action for the first-team for quite some time, and this month could finally see the 20-year-old make his senior bow. The Hammers take on Bolton Wanderers in the third round of the EFL Cup on 19 September and West Ham boss Slaven Bilic would be wise to throw Martinez into the starting line-up and see what he can do.
After all, the youngster wasted little time impressing for West Ham's under-23 side following his arrival from Valencia, scoring 16 goals in just 17 matches.
A loan spell at Oxford United last time out also proved his worth, with Martinez scoring three goals and providing two assists, including FA Cup strikes against both Newcastle United and Middlesbrough. While West Ham now have additional goal-scoring options in the form of Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic, the EFL Cup gives Bilic the perfect chance to blood his youngsters.

The Huddersfield match this weekend is a must win for West Ham but they may have to do it without the injured Edimilson Fernandes and Manuel Lanzini. As if Slaven Bilic didn't have enough to contend with ahead of the Premier League clash against Huddersfield Town this weekend, the West Ham United manager now also has a selection headache. That is because football.london reports that both Edimilson Fernandes and Manuel Lanzini are major doubts for the game against the Terriers with ankle and knee injuries respectively. It is believed that Fernandes' issue is a sprain, although currently it is not known how severe it is, while Lanzini pulled out of Argentina's latest squad with a knee problem. With Winston Reid already out, Andy Carroll and Andre Ayew also doubts and Marko Arnautovic serving the second match of his three-game suspension, Bilic's options are being stretched to breaking point. Central midfield is becoming a major issue with Fernandes and Lanzini both now expected to be absent, with captain Mark Noble, youngster Declan Rice, Pedro Obiang and Cheikhou Kouyate having all been used there at some point this season - all to little or no effect with the Hammers having fallen to three defeats.

The Hammers were strongly linked with a move for the Portuguese midfielder, who has been a transfer target for Arsenal in the past. But the deal failed to materialise and West Ham co-owner David Sullivan was called a "liar" and a "parasite" by Sporting director Nuno Saraiva for claiming it failed because they did not have time for a medical And Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho has now given his opinion on the situation and set a challenge to Hammers fans.
Carvalho, speaking to Sporting TV in Portugal, said: "Where is it? Proof? Now, approaches, for sure. "I've had them for almost the whole squad: West Ham supporters call Mr. David Sullivan and his brother, the Dildo Brothers… "These messengers, these offended virgins, the president of West Ham… We must tell the truth!"
Despite missing out on Carvalho, Grzegorz Krychowiak and Renato Sanches, Sullivan insisted recently manager Slaven Bilic was happy with their transfer business.
"Grzegorz Krychowiak and Renato Sanches were both offered to the manager before their switches elsewhere, but he told us that he is happy with the squad he has," Sullivan said. "As a Board we are behind Slaven, and he believes he has the tools to turn around our form and rectify our disappointing start to the season."
Sullivan is already set to launch legal proceedings against Sporting Lisbon after been branded a liar and a parasite. Saraiva said: "David Sullivan lies. At Sporting Clube de Portugal, as has already been said by its president, no proposal has been made for the player William Carvalho. The football industry is not the set of an adult film in which all obscenities are allowed. So the boss of a club demands a lot more than this intellectual pornography. "Mr David Sullivan has a duty to prove what he says. That is why Sporting Clube de Portugal challenges him to publicly show the proposals he claims to have been made as well as the evidence that Sporting CP received them. "One thing is certain: Sporting CP, as has already been said, does not cut the legs off its players. But we have nothing to do with the performance of entrepreneurs or relatives who live at the expense of players and who are offering them to clubs as if they were cheap supermarket merchandise.
"It creates regrettable situations that have already forced the sporting club of Portugal to take drastic measures to defend itself from these characters who parasitise the lives of some players."

Let's not lie to ourselves - West Ham's start to the Premier League season thus far has been pretty dismal. The Hammers don't have a bottom-of-the-league squad, but that's exactly where they find themselves after three matches of the campaign - and that's not good enough. There's a lot of fingers to be pointed whenever a side is in a poor run of form, and this situation is absolutely no different, as many will already be aware. The board, Slaven Bilic, a poor transfer window - they've all been blamed recently by West Ham fans desperate to see their side perform and get results on the pitch. That's all they're asking.
However, it must be remembered that the Hammers haven't yet played at home thanks to the IAAF World Athletics Championships being hosted at the London Stadium at the end of the summer. And a return to home comforts could be exactly what West Ham as a club need right now. For the fans, for some of the fans at least, it will be a chance to get their strong feelings off their chest directly in front of the players - with protests planned by some of the most disheartened of supporters in the fanbase. Each to their own, and if those fans want to protest they have a right to - but regardless the vast majority inside the stadium won't be.
But, even so, there will be an immense pressure on these West Ham players to put in a performance in front of their home fans for the first time this season - at the very least to put in a hard day's work. Against a newly-promoted Huddersfield side the Hammers support won't be accepting anything less than a win at home, despite the visitors having a strong start to their first campaign in the Premier League. The West Ham players will either crumble under that pressure - or galvanise themselves to put in a performance akin to something the quality of the squad shows they should be producing. The players have a chance to prove to the rest of the league why they should be competing much higher up the table, a chance to prove to the fans why they were so excited about this season earlier in the transfer window. Playing at home again should be exactly what's needed to see what this squad of players, and the manager in fact, are really made of.

Bilic should have close to a fully fit squad to choose from although Marko Arnautovic is suspended and Andre Ayew has been injured on international duty.
Andy Carroll and Manuel Lanzini should be fit while Michail Antonio and Cheikhou Kouyate will be stronger after getting another two weeks of training under their belts. Reports claim defeat to Huddersfield could be the final straw for Bilic.
