Hello,
I hope you are looking forward to our encounter with Tottenham Hotspur this
weekend, as it'll be my first taste of this particular London derby, I
certainly am!
Talking to the lads who have been here for a while, you can tell how
important it is to everyone at the Club.
There's a special atmosphere around the training ground whenever the big
games come round and I am confident we will more than rise to the occasion.
Going back to the international break, it was clearly a very special moment
for me personally. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that helping the boys to
qualify for the European Championships next summer is my career highlight.
I owe a lot to everyone at West Ham United who has helped me since I joined,
I truly believe I wouldn't have been given my opportunity at international
level if I hadn't made the step up to the Premier League.
It's always been a dream of mine to play at a major international
tournament; I remember watching the Euros and World Cups at home, so I am
delighted to be going to France next summer.
As you can imagine, Ginge is buzzing about the idea too!
Having progressed through the play offs we're in the lowest pot so we're
going to get a difficult group.
I haven't really had time to look at the potential combination of teams we
might get but they're all going to be good teams and we'll look forward to
playing whoever we're drawn against.
Last Monday, it was a great atmosphere; it was the loudest the Aviva have
been for a while, if at all. The noise levels kept on going up and up, it
was amazing.
We knew we had to keep it tight, focus on our jobs and that's exactly what
happened. We got an early goal which helped massively.
At the final whistle, Martin O'Neil didn't have much of an opportunity to
say much afterwards because of the celebrations. To be fair, everyone had to
return to their Clubs pretty quickly so nothing got out of hand but it was a
nice moment. Once that had calmed down a bit he just said welcome and
congratulated everyone.
It's definitely the highlight of my career so far, qualifying for the
European Championships; it doesn't get much better than that.

Payet - We can achieve something really special

Dimitri Payet is already dreaming about his return to first-team action in
the New Year and would love to help West Ham United qualify for Europe as
they prepare to move into the new Stadium. Payet has been ruled out for
three months with an ankle injury, but with the team enjoying an impressive
start to the campaign, the France star sees no reason why they cannot cement
their place in top six during his absence. Manuel Lanzini has been a
revelation for the Club following his arrival back in the summer while Mauro
Zarate and Michail Antonio are pushing hard for a first-team place. With
Alex Song also ready to make a return to first-team action, Slaven Bilic has
plenty of options to choose from while Payet begins his journey back to full
fitness. The former Marseille midfielder will be keeping a close eye on
results over the next few weeks and hopes to play his part in making this a
special final season at the Boleyn Ground. Payet said: "It would be
fantastic if we could qualify for Europe next season. The season is very
long and we have many games coming up in a short space of time which could
be crucial. I hope to come back with the team still on track to achieve
something really special this season. "With the new Stadium next season that
will be a huge step forward for the Club in terms of it's history. I signed
a long-term deal here to be part of this project and if West Ham qualify for
Europe that will be fantastic for everyone at the Club. "But we should also
not put too much pressure on ourselves and I speak from experience knowing
that to do well in Europe it requires a whole host of things and you need
lots of energy throughout the Club. "You need to bring in new players and
have a bigger squad to cope. If we do it we need to make sure that we do it
in the right way and not rush it. "I have full confidence in my team-mates.
There have been many injuries and suspensions since the start of the season.
Every time a player has had to come into the team they have done very well
and have even won some games. I am very confident that the team can do well
without me and that the coach can find a solution to carry on this good run.
"They are very good players and even if when I was not playing they were
still performing at 100 per cent. That is what a team is about and everyone
needs to perform at their best. Manuel and Mauro are very good players and I
have no doubts they will perform well in my absence and bring the team
exactly what it needs."

Ladies keeper up for prestigious award

West Ham United Ladies' Indian international goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan is
hoping to be named the 2015 Woman in Football winner at Thursday night's
Asian Football Awards at Wembley Stadium.
Chauhan attracted plenty of mainstream publicity both in the UK and India
when she joined the Hammers back in August as she became the first Indian
woman to feature at FA Women's Premier League level in England.
Now, just over three months later and Chauhan has been nominated for the
Woman in Football award at the third annual Asian Football Awards and she
was extremely thankful to everyone that made it possible.
"It's a huge honour for me and I'd like to thank the Asian Football Awards
for considering me for this award," said Chauhan. "Also to all the
supporters that voted for me and, of course, to West Ham United for
promoting this nomination as it really helped me make it into the final
list."
The 22-year-old has been nominated for the award alongside Tanvie Hans and
Monica Sharma of Fulham FC Ladies and London Bari LFC captain Sabah Mahmoud
and, should Chauhan come away with the award, she is hoping that her success
will help towards the next generation of female footballers back in India.
"I think football is growing back in India, continued Chauhan. "Being from
India where we don't have any professional league or league structure as
such, it's a big deal and more importantly for me now as I feel like I have
more responsibility because I'm representing my country and I'm being like a
role model for the people that are interested.
"It's great that I'm in a position where I can inspire young talent and
young girls to consider football as a career in the future."
Chauhan, who most recently represented India at senior level during the 2014
Asian Games in South Korea, was studying a Business Management Masters at
Loughborough University when her football career took its most famous step
and she now feels like she is adapting to English football well.
"It's been a big step up for me as I was playing for Loughborough University
last season and this is definitely a higher level to that," she added. "It
obviously took a while to adjust but I think I'm doing really well now.
"There is much better co-ordination and communication within the team now
and we can hopefully get more good results during the rest of the season."
Off the pitch though, Chauhan has been interviewed by a number of media
outlets about her journey from BBC London and BBC Asian Network Radio to the
Times of India and India Today, which was a reaction she didn't expect at
all.
"It obviously feels great and I wasn't expecting any of this but since I
joined West Ham, the news has gone viral on social media and I'm
continuously being interviewed by all the major newspapers and news channels
back in India and here in the UK.
"I've been interviewed by the BBC too where I recently went on air for the
BBC Asian Network and now I've been nominated for the Asian Football Awards
so it's all very positive and it's overwhelming for me.
"It feels great that all the struggle and the hard work was worth it because
more people are starting to know about me and my journey which is great."
During a recent visit to Upton Park for the Premier League game against
Everton, Chauhan and her West Ham Ladies team mates Katie Bottom, Natalie
Strange and Amy Gullefer got the chance to meet West Ham Joint-Chairman
David Gold, who offered his support and admitted that he would love Chauhan
to take home Thursday's award.
"We are very supportive and would love her to win as that would be fantastic
and anything that we can do to help, that's what we will do," revealed Mr
Gold. "We are always hoping that women's football will grow and become more
popular and sometimes it's like we will have to win the World Cup or
something to generate interest, but for someone to possibly win an award
like this, that would be fantastic and it all give impetus to women's
football."
Everyone at West Ham United would like to wish Chauhan the best of luck with
the award nomination.

Zarate pumped for derby day

Mauro Zarate is eager to secure the bragging rights when West Ham United
travel to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Not only does the No10 know how much
this London derby means to Hammers supporters, but he is also keen to get
one over fellow Argentines Mauricio Pochettino and Federico Fazio.
For a player who has already played in derby matches in Buenos Aires for
Velez Sarsfield, Birmingham for Birmingham City, Rome for Lazio and Milan
for Internazionale, Sunday's trip to White Hart Lane holds no fears. "We
need to win again and this is a perfect match for us because it's a derby
and it's away, so I think we have to do the perfect match to win," Zarate
told West Ham TV. "Obviously I know – we all know – how important this is to
the fans. They always want us to win against Tottenham and we will do our
best to win the match. "I know Pochettino and also Fazio, as we played
together when we won the Under-20 World Cup [in 2007]. Pochettino is a good
manager and is doing really well. "They have many good players and we have
many good players, so it will be a nice match."
Zarate will be one of those called upon to make up for the absence of
Dimitri Payet, who has been ruled out until 2016 with a high ankle sprain.
The South American has the talent to both create and score goals, as he has
done already this season, and he is ready to add to those he has netted in
wins over Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Chelsea at White Hart Lane. "Injuries
are always really bad, but even more when they are injuries to important
players," he continued. "Dimitri is an important player for us, so we have
to do our best [in his absence]. "If I am needed to play, I am always ready
to start. We are ready to win and to come back to the good way. Like I told
you before, it is a perfect match for us. "I hope I can score again like I
did against Chelsea!"

Tottenham are eleven games unbeaten in the League, there must be a good
atmosphere around White Hart Lane?
"It's been a good start to the season for Spurs but I don't think the fans
are getting too carried away just yet. They've been unlucky not to win a
number of games this season and instead have come away with a draw that
could cost them dearly if they are fighting for that Champions League place
come May.
"Having said that they do look threatening going forward and now Harry Kane
is back scoring goals there seems to be no stopping him which is thoroughly
pleasing the fans."
Which players have stood out for you so far this season?
"It has to be Dele Alli at the moment. Coming from MK Dons and only 19,
there was a bit of uncertainty about how he'll get on at first but he's
thrown himself straight into it. He's shown a lot of confidence and as well
as threatening the opposition. That has been backed up by getting called up
by the England squad.
"His performance on Tuesday against France shows how much of an exciting
prospect he is for English football. He's soon become a favourite of the
fans and his partnership with Son in the midfield has been something that
has naturally fallen into place."
What is Mauricio Pochettino's standing with the fans like?
"Mauricio Pochettino has been impressive this season, he had a quite a tough
job last season balancing the squad with the amount of fixtures they had.
But this season he's displayed passion on the touchline which fans always
want to see and it looks as though he's dedicated to bring through young,
English players.
"Thankfully that really seems to be working for him. He's focussed on
playing attacking football and he stuck by Kane- a move which has really
pulled off in recent matches."
Is there are a particular Tottenham v West Ham United derby that stands out
for you?
"Tottenham winning 4-3 in injury time against West Ham in 2007 was a
memorable game. Spurs coming back from being 3-2 down with a couple of
minutes left to play was just unbelievable."
What have you made of West Ham this season?
"We've covered every West Ham game this season on BBC Radio London and I
have to say they have been one of the most exciting teams in the Premier
League– you never know what is going to happen.
"Their win over Chelsea has to be one of the stand-out matches so far. It's
such a shame that Dimitri Payet is out injured because he's really added
another dimension to the West Ham team, making chances out of nowhere with
style and creativity."
What is your prediction for the score of Sunday?
"One of the hardest matches to call because both sides have struggled
holding onto a lead this season but I think it will end up 2-1 Tottenham. I
think West Ham will struggle without Payet dominating play and I think the
Spurs' England boys will be fired up after Tuesday to get a win at White
Hart Lane."

Hello everybody,
We have a few matches coming up against clubs which I have personal
connections with, starting with the trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday,
then home games with my old manager Tony Pulis' West Bromwich Albion and
another of my old clubs, Stoke City.
It will be a tough game. As good a start as West Ham United have made this
season, Spurs have as well. They've got a good team with lots of young
players in it, so they're full of energy.
I've seen a bit of Spurs and I've been impressed with them, to be honest.
I've also been impressed with West Ham, so I think it'll be an entertaining
game.
The loss of Dimitri Payet is massive for the Hammers, so it will be
interesting to see how we cope without him.
That said, this is the best West Ham squad I have seen in a long, long time
so there are players there who can come in do a very good job. Payet was the
X factor in the team and has something a little bit special, but the squad
has some very good players in it.
Manuel Lanzini has been superb this season and I'm sure he will step up to
the plate. I've been really impressed with him. He looks a brilliant
footballer and the goal he scored against Everton was top-drawer the way he
caressed it into the top corner. It was a top, top goal.
He has been doing it for the team all season and he will take on a pivotal
role as the creator in the team.
West Ham have done well at White Hart Lane in recent years and, while some
people not agree, I think it helps when you have got results at certain
stadia in the past.
Obviously this is a different Spurs team, but I'm sure those West Ham
players who played in those games will take those memories into Sunday's
game and be inspired by them.
As for Spurs, I think the main threats will come from Dele Alli and Harry
Kane, to be honest. Harry is scoring goals again and his hold-up play is
very good. His touch is good and he is strong, so he'll be a big threat.
Dele Alli has also been very impressive. I didn't think he would be able to
make the step up to the Premier League – and international football – so
quickly, to be honest, but to be fair to him he looks like a complete
midfielder. He can tackle and score goals and is one of the best midfielders
about at the minute.
Those are the main two Spurs players that West Ham will have to keep an eye
on, in my view.
I'm certainly looking forward to watching the game and seeing how Slaven
Bilic sets his team up to beat Spurs and I'm sure you all are too!

Aaron Cresswell is hoping for better luck than last season when West Ham
face London rivals Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday. West Ham earned
just a point from two meetings against Spurs last season, losing 1-0 at home
thanks to a 93rd-minute Eric Dier strike before surrendering a two-goal lead
in the last 10 minutes at White Hart Lane, with Harry Kane grabbing a
96th-minute equaliser. Spurs are fifth in the table this season on 21
points, ahead of West Ham on goal difference. "When the fixtures come out
the Tottenham games are one of the ones we look for first," West Ham
defender Aaron Cresswell told the club's website. "Last season I think we
were the better side and were unlucky not to win."
The defender is banking on his club's away form to see them through on
Sunday. West Ham have won four of their six away matches in the league this
season. "We know it'll be a tough game. Every game is but our away form has
been terrific so far," the 25-year-old said. "We know that if we play to our
best we have a very good chance, and that breeds a lot of confidence."
West Ham will be without injured midfielders Enner Valencia and Dimitri
Payet, who was put out of commission after a tackle from Everton's James
McCarthy in their last league game on November 7. "These things happen in
football, it wasn't the best of tackles," said Cresswell. "We haven't had a
game since Dimi's injury, so we haven't had to change formation or style
yet. I'm sure that's what the manager has been thinking about a lot."

I don't believe West Ham will do much business in the January transfer
window. If any. I suspect there may be one or two outgoing players, but if
we are to make any signings let's do one big one and leave it at that. I've
got no suggestions as to who it might be or in what position, but we should
give up on signing average players. We have cover in every position now, so
if we have money to spend, let's spend it on one top notch player.
I hate to say this but I do think we should sell James Collins in January.
Sam Allardyce is rumoured to want him at Sunderland, and in my opinion we
should let him go for a decent fee. The reason I hate to say it is because
he has been immense for us and I love his bulldog spirit. However, he's 32
and in the last year of his contract. In January we could probably get up to
£2 million for him. In addition, we have Ogbonna to cover for Tomkins and
Reid, who are clearly the first choice pairing, and we also have Reece
Burke, who is on loan at Bradford and by all accounts has been their player
of the season so far. We also have Kouyate and Joey O'Brien who can both
play in central defence if needed.
So what does everyone think. Should be bid farewell to the Ginger Pele? I
feel awful even asking the question.
UPDATE: As someone points out in the comments, we also have Reece Oxford and
Doneil Henry. From what I have seen of Henry he is a top quality player.

Aaron Cresswell insists he is not worrying about being kept out of the
England picture. The West Ham left-back, who has attracted the attentions of
reigning champions Chelsea and current leaders Manchester City in the
transfer market, has impressed at Upton Park but has so far been snubbed by
Roy Hodgson. Cresswell, 25, has played 50 games for the Hammers being signed
from Championship Ipswich last year. And he is set to start for West Ham
against Spurs this weekend. He said: "I never really look at it like I
should be in the squad. "I don't compare myself to the players that are in
the squad. I just concentrate on doing my best for West Ham, and hopefully
one day it [England] will happen. "If you ask any pro footballer what their
ambitions are, that would be right up there and a highlight for any player.
"But at the moment I just concentrate on doing my best for West Ham.
"I'm just going to keep my head down and keep working."

Different day same silly story

if I didn't have a calender, diary or a watch I'd know we were approaching
the transfer window via the same old stories doing the same old rounds.
I've read at least three times this week that we are still holding a major
interest in Turkish striker Burak Yilmaz – this is the same Yilmaz whom we
were constantly told in the summer was on the brink of joining us.
The only justification I can see for this story is that apparenty Slaven
Bilic apparently admires him. He also admires Ronaldo and Messi by the way!
They ain't joining either.
However, the Yilmaz story is our there again on any number of sites and in
some cases from the Turkish media.
The fact that at 30 years of age he is priced at anywhere between £10m to
£15 million, depending on which report you read, doesn't appear to have a
rung a bell inside the head of those reporting it.
For goodness sake, he heading towards the twilight of career and has never
played outside of Turkey whilst at the same time West Ham don't have a bean
for transfer dealings at this moment and would have to sell to buy even if
there was interest – which there's not.
Barely a day went by in the summer without this particularly silly rumour
being recycled and if it was ever going to happen it would have happened
then when there was plenty of time for it to take place.
This one isn't on – just needed to put that to bed!

Massive double boost for Irons at Spurs

Angelo Ogbonna is fit and ready to take his place in the Irons team on
Sunday And Alex Song is also available as Slaven Bilic prepares his team in
the absence of Dimitri Payet and Enner Valencia. The Hammers – despite
missing their chief play maker – look in good order otherwise and the £8
million Ogbonna is hoping to force his way back into the team for the big
London derby. And David Gold cleared up any lingering doubts that the former
Juventus defender had been unable to settle to his new life in England. He
said: "He couldn't be happier. He's fitted into life here brilliantly and
now he is through his injury problems we will see the best of him. "Alex
Song is also available and hoping to make the team and who know there could
be a chance for Michail Antonio. "Everything is very positive and looking
good. We are in good order."

Speculation that Angelo Ogbonna may have been unable to settle in the UK
since his arrival at West Ham seem entirely unfounded.
Former Hammers scout and academy coach Gianluca Nani had suggested in the
Italia media that the £8 million signing from Juventus may have been unable
to adjust to life in a new country.
But a glance at the central defender's Twitter feed suggests that there is
nothing in the player's mind other than giving the Hammers his entire
support.
Going back as far as October his tweets have been nothing left than entirely

Ogbonna has had some injury worries to cope with since arriving at the
Boleyn but club insiders are well impressed with his attitude with one
saying: "Angelo is among the most popular players in the dressing room. It's
nonsense to say he's unsettled."
And as we reported earlier there is no chance of him being loaned anywhere
in January with the same source Telling us: " There's zero chance of that.
"He's been unlucky with injuries, so we haven't seen the best of him, but
he's a key member of our squad and hopefully will be playing in the first
team soon."

David Gold believes West Ham are all set set to show that they are no one
man team. The co chairman has put the despair of losing Dimitri Payet behind
him and declared: "I'm fascinated to see how the manager will set the team
up for Spurs. "We have many options now and whilst all the pundits have
explained that Lanzini can play the Payet role, we are about to find out who
will be taking over his job. "It could be Zarate and there may even be a
role now for Michail Antonio – we'll have to wait and see but it really is
going to be extremely interesting." Addressing the Antonio issue in an
exclusive interview with ClaretandHugh he declared: "People have been
complaining that he hasn't had his chance as though it's a bad thing. "We
have so many options now and surely that has to be a good thing. His time
will come – it may even be on Sunday at some stage. "We are a club that's
aiming to cover every position and Michail Antonio is a part of it. H's a
great lad with a fantastic attitude. I love the boy to bits." "We are

Cresswell - We are raring to go

Having marked his 50th Premier League appearance for the Hammers last time
out against Everton, Aaron Cresswell is hoping to build on his outstanding
half-century against Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday. Since joining West Ham
United in June 2014, the left-back has gone from strength to strength; not
only taking the step up to the Premier League in his stride but also being
crowned Hammer of the Year at the end of his debut season. The 25-year-old's
achievement is even more impressive considering that he has reached 50
league games in the quickest possible time, not to mention the fact he has
played every minute of those games. Reflecting on his milestone, Cresswell
said: "It's a nice figure to reach, I didn't actually realise at the time.
"A friend of mine texted me after the game, touch wood I haven't had any
injuries, and hopefully that continues. "I had a similar sort of thing at
Ipswich, I played there for three seasons and I think I only missed six
games in that time. Thankfully through the majority of my career I've stayed
injury free."
While the Hammers have thoroughly enjoyed the left-back's fitness record as
well as his sparkling form, they have not been so lucky with Cresswell's
teammates Dimitri Payet and Enner Valencia. With both attack minded players
set for a spell on the side-lines, Cresswell conceded their absences would
be keenly felt: "These things happen in football, it wasn't the best of
tackles (on Payet). At the same time, Enner has had no luck and he's out
injured again. When these things happen you just have to keep your head
down, work even harder and come back strong.
"We haven't had a game since Dimi's injury, so we haven't had to change
formation or style yet. I'm sure that's what the manager has been thinking
about a lot. Training wise, we're still buzzing about, we've done quite well
this season so we're confident and we're all looking forward to the
Tottenham game. "Obviously it's not nice to see players get injured, their
teammates and fellow professionals. For us, we have to get on with our jobs
and be s professional as possible."
Having enjoyed a few days rest and recuperation over the international
break, the defender is now raring to go with rivals Tottenham Hotspur in his
sights. Cresswell, a confident character by nature, firmly reiterated his
belief that the Hammers' have every chance of coming away from White Hart
Lane on Sunday afternoon with all three points. "When the fixtures come out
the Tottenham games are one of the ones we look for first. Last season I
think we were better side and were unlucky not to win. It's just one of
things where we were the better side over 90 minutes but couldn't quite see
it out. "Both games last season we were unlucky, even the penalty in the
last minute, Adrian almost saved it, but that went against us too. "We know
it'll be a tough game, every game is but our away form has been terrific so
far, apart from the Watford game. Across 38 games every team is going to
struggle in one or two. I thought we bounced back well against Everton and
were unlucky not to get the three points. "We know that if we play to our
best we have a very good chance, and that breeds a lot of confidence."

You played alongside Alex Song in the friendly with Crystal Palace last
week, how much of a boost is it to have him back?
"It's a huge boost. He's a great player, with a lot of experience, and
someone who can break things down but also makes things happen. It's a great
addition to the squad, especially as we've already started the season so
well. For him to come back into the squad is massive."
You mentioned his experience, he's played for Arsenal and Barcelona, how
important is that experience?
"It's invaluable. You need quality in depth and he certainly has that. We
have a great squad as it is, his return will push them to be even better and
that will push us up higher the league."
We've had some bad news with injuries recently, but that gives players like
yourself an opportunity?
"Definitely, Dimitri getting injured is a great loss as well as Enner. Their
absence gives other players the chance to become to star of the club and
allow them to show what they can do.

Hello everyone,
We will start with Dimitri Payet, who has suffered a significant high ankle
sprain, or syndesmosis injury, to his left leg.
After consulting the specialist on Monday, the ankle specialist decided not
to operate on Dimitri, which is good news. The bad news is that he will
still be out for 12 weeks if all goes to plan.
Dimi is an intelligent, experienced football player with a good body
awareness and understands the biomechanics of the injury he has suffered. He
is a top professional and positive about the rehabilitation period ahead.
The first phase is to let the body heal and it is important that his high
ankle sprain is given the ability to scar. The ligaments are damaged and
need to get strong again, and this is done by allowing scar tissue to
develop.
For two weeks, he will be using the boot to keep the joint in a certain
position, allowing the body to heal without straining the injured ligaments.
Enner Valencia has suffered a high ankle sprain to his right leg. He is
going through an immobilisation period of two weeks at present and we will
reassess the situation at the end of this period.
We have some positive news regarding Diafra Sakho, who has returned to full
training following his recovery from a quadriceps injury suffered ahead of
the Watford game. Diafra will be available for Sunday's game at Tottenham
Hotspur.
Pedro Obiang will join training this week after recovering from the thigh
injury he suffered in training before the Watford away match.
Alex Song came through his first game in six months against Reading. It was
a success and he had no reaction from a medical point of view.
He is training fully with the squad for several weeks now and is getting
closer to making his return to the Premier League.
We are coming to the end of the international break. James Collins returned
after playing 45 minutes for Wales in good health, while we all congratulate
Darren Randolph on helping Republic of Ireland to qualify for EURO 2016.
Unfortunately, Darren picked up minor knock and will miss a few days off
training.
Cheikhou Kouyate had a very long haul flight to and from Madagascar, where
Senegal drew 2-2, and he then captained his country and scored in a 3-0 in
in the second leg.
So I'm pleased to report that everyone is looking forward to Sunday's big
game with Tottenham. Let's hope we can get another fine away win.

Valencia - I hope to be back as soon as possible

Enner Valencia has vowed to make a return to first-team action as quickly as
possible and hopes to play a major role for West Ham United in 2016.
Valencia was forced to miss the start of the season after he was injured
during the Europa League game agains AFC Astra Giurgiu and only made his
return to action against Watford at the end of October.
But the Ecuador international suffered more heartbreak in the next game when
he came on as a substitute against Everton and damaged his ankle following a
challenge with Seamus Coleman.
After seeing a specialist this week, Valencia was told he would be ruled out
of action until the start of the New Year, but the 26-year-old says he will
be doing everything to come back sooner.
Valencia said: "Thank God the injury isn't quite as bad as initially
thought. I hope to be back as soon as possible.
"I was worried when the injury happened. When I clashed with the Everton
player I feared it might be the same problem (as before) but it wasn't, it
was a minor ligament issue.
"I'm following all the doctor's advice and despite wearing a boot, my aim is
to get back as soon as possible.
"The first injury I suffered here was the first serious injury in my career,
it was very tough but I was very impressed by how good the medical team are
here.
"They do an amazing job and I was able to return three weeks earlier than
expected. Now more than ever I need to put my faith in them, continue to
work hard and hopefully not get many injuries in the future."
Valencia has been overwhelmed by the support that his team-mates, the
medical staff and the fans have showed towards him this season and hopes to
repay their faith by coming back and producing his best form for the Club.
Valencia added: "It definitely helps. The people have been incredibly
understanding - the board, the fans, the staff and of course my teammates.
"Being injured is the worst thing that can happen to a footballer so having
all this support is really fantastic. It's helping me have a quicker
recovery.
"I have received so many supportive messages recently on my social media
profiles, saying things like 'I hope you get back soon' and 'We would like
you back as soon as possible'. The support has been absolutely fantastic so
I would like to thank them for that."
Valencia was gutted to see his team-mate Dimitri Payet also ruled out for
three months with an ankle injury, but hopes the team will be able to cope
without both of them and can continue their impressive start to the
campaign.
"Dimitri has been having a spectacular season so far, he has been one of the
best players in the Premier League. His injury is a very unfortunate thing
to happen. We all wish him the best and hope he gets back as soon as
possible.
"I haven't had the chance to play so much this season but Dimitri has played
every game and he's been the main man. The Club did make some very good
signings this summer so I think there are players who can come in and do
well and keep our form going."

West Ham United playmaker Dimitri Payet is relieved he will not have to
undergo surgery on the injured ankle that has ruled him out for three
months. The France international, who has scored five goals in 12 Premier
League appearances this season, suffered the injury in the 1-1 draw with
Everton on November 7. He told the West Ham website: "It has been a week
since I sustained the injury. I am doing well. It is a long period but I am
looking forward to making a return to action. "Of course it is a big relief
for me that I will not need an operation. I speak from experience and having
had a couple of operations, it is not an easy thing to cope with. It is good
news on that front but it doesn't change the time that it will take me to
recover."
Payet's injury means Michail Antonio could make just his second league
appearance of the season when West Ham tackle Tottenham in their Sky Live
Super Sunday match this weekend. He is keen to take the chance to prove his
worth. He said: "Definitely, Dimitri getting injured is a great loss as well
as Enner [Valencia], but their absence gives other players the chance to
become a star of the club and allow them to show what they can do. "Dimitri

Hammers get hands-off warning from Cherries

West Ham have been warned off making any sort of move for Bournemouth winger
Matt Ritchie. The Irons are just one club that has tracked the 26 year old
along with West Brom, Manchester United and Stoke but Cherries boss Eddie
Howe insists he's not for sale. And ClaretandHugh was told this evening:
"We've scouted him – he's a good player."
But Howe insisted on Sky Sports News the club wasn't looking to sell the
player but added all bids would be considered on their merits.y'Matty's
(Ritchie) a good player so it's not a surprise to me he's linked to the top
clubs,' Howe told Sky Sports News. 'We'd have to see that (a bid) on its
individual merit, but certainly we're not looking to sell him. 'Matt Ritchie
on form and playing well is a threat to anybody. Whenever any of our players
gets linked, it's not welcome by us. 'We're not a selling club and we
certainly want to keep the squad together if we can in January and not the
other way.' The 26-year-old Ritchie signed for the south coast club from
Swindon in a £400,000 deal in January 2013, and has gone on to make over 100
appearances under Howe.

Hammers set OS season tickets target

West Ham have confirmed for the first time that they hope to increase season
ticket holders from the current 26,000 at the Boleyn Ground to between
35,000 and 40,000 season ticket holders at the Olympic Stadium.
If West Ham achieve their upper 40,000 season ticket holder target at the
Olympic Stadium it means few tickets will be available for general sale at
the newly transformed stadium. With at least 3,000 seats reserved for away
supporters for Premier League games and another 3,600 seats reserved for
corporate members, around 7,400 would be left for general sale but many of
these may be given away free of charge of part of the club's agreement with
Newham council to provide up to 100,000 tickets to local residents.
Former Arsenal director now West Ham's commercial director, Felicity Barnard
revealed that the season ticket target in an interview at a recent brand
conference which can be seen below.
"We are moving to 35,000, hoping to get to 40,000 (season tickets),
obviously with season tickets gone that allows us to have a much more fluid
match by match experience and they are going very well so we are on track to
make those numbers, absolutely. In hospitality we are doubling from 2,000 to
4,000 and we sold out in all but one lounge, so we are very pleased" Barnard
told the interviewer.

Olympic Stadium transformed to car race track

The Olympic Stadium which has seen Athletics and the Rugby World Cup this
year has been transformed once again into a race track ahead of the Race of
Champions event this weekend.
The Race Of Champions is an annual end-of-season contest which has been held
for over 25 years. It brings together the world's greatest drivers from
motor sport's major disciplines – including Formula 1, World Rally, Le Mans,
MotoGP, Nascar, IndyCar and the X-Games and let's them battle head-to-head
in identical machinery.
In recent years ROC has visited the Stade de France in Paris (2004-2006),
London's Wembley Stadium (2007-2008), the 'Bird's Nest' Olympic Stadium in
Beijing (2009), Düsseldorf's Esprit Arena (2010-2011), the Rajamangala

Payet in Paris at time of attacks

Injured Dimtri Payet has revealed he was in Paris at the time of the
terrorist attacks. The 28-year-old French man has said he is pleased that
the England game against France was allowed to take place at Wembley tonight
and hopes that sport can help bring everyone together. Payet told WHUFC.com:
"It is a very difficult time. I was in Paris over the weekend and I was very
close to everything that happened." "The support that sport can provide in
this case and with many important sporting figures showing their support has
helped for the game to take place.
"I have seen photos of Wembley in red, white and blue which is very special.
Aside from the match itself, it is going to be a very emotional evening." On
Sunday the player posted a message in French on twitter and instagram
saying "All my thoughts to the victims of these heinous crimes. Rest in
peace, and all my support to their families. Pray that men find the reason
and love each other whatsoever."

Premier League in match day security talks

Premier League bosses have issued a statement in which they discuss the
present siutation regarding security measures which may surround the weekend
fixtures and and any requirements going forward. ClaretandHugh approached
the PL this morning and was given the following statement which we trust
will come as an assurance to fans. It reads: "We are actively engaged with
our security advisers and the appropriate authorities, including the Home
Office and senior representatives from the Police, to assess current
security guidance to Premier League clubs. There is a club meeting later
this week where a full security briefing will be given. Following that,
further guidance will be issued to the clubs as well as a public statement
so fans are fully aware of what to expect when arriving at stadiums."

CandH man's night with the French!

ClaretandHugh's historian Nigel Kahn was at the England v France match – an
event that that will long live in the memory of those who crowded into the
stadium following the Paris terror attack. Nige is a "tough old cookie " –
having been brought up on stories of the bombings suffered by the 2nd World
War bombings suffered in the area. And he declared: "It never occurred to me
not to go – you simply go about your business but it was an odd night. "I
was there for the football but I saw many English people who I think were
there for an event and the show of solidarity between the French and our
folk was great. "There were many English kids wearing French shirts and
carrying French flags and I found myself in the 'wrong end' alongside the
visiting fans who at times were chanting for England. They were in great
spirits "There was a real show of force from armed police but it's a tribute
to the security at football staiums that these people have never got in. "Ok
there have been acts of war but what brings it home to you so strongly is
that the people who died were doing what we do – eating, drinking and having
a good time. "It was good to be a part of it and good to see England win."

Zarate agent may be busy!

Mauro Zarate's agent is apparently attempting to organise a transfer back to
Italy for his client say the Italian media. The 28-year-old has made three
starts and scored two Premier League goals for the Hammers so far this
season but he is reportedly keen on moving in order to find increased
playing time. According to GazzettaTV, Zarate's agent has been in
preliminary contact with Hellas, Verona, Genoa and and Torino as he seeks a
club interested in signing his client before the January transfer window.
Zarate previously played in Serie A while on loan at Lazio from Birmingham
City but he struggled after the deal was made permanent for around £14
million in 2009. The Argentine also made 22 appearances, scoring twice,
while on loan with Inter Milan from Lazio. Whether this all just talk in an
attempt to unsettle the player remains to be seen. Zarate has previously
been touted around other clubs while still a West Ham player. On that
occasion the player denied the agent acted on his behalf and denied he was
his adviser.

Lloris 'emotionally drained' ahead of Irons

Spurs goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris has admitted he needs to he needs
to refocus and recover ahead of the Irons visit on Sunday. And the France
goalkeeper declared himself 'emotionally drained'as he prepares to take off
the Hammers. With over 60 per cent of the Spurs squad having been on
international duty the Hammers certainly have the edge in terms of fitness,
preparation and emotional stability. Lloris said: "We have to thank the
English for the reception they gave us, for their support (at Wembley). What
they did for us was very strong, very moving. It was big of them. "The last
three days, with the preparations we've had, had clearly taken something out
of us. But the result wasn't the most important thing about this evening. It
was secondary. "Now we have to go back to our clubs, every one of us,
refocus and recover. There will be better days than this ahead, for all of
us."

TURKISH STRIKER TO ARRIVE IN JANUARY?

The speculation regarding incoming and outgoing January transfer deals has
already began. One report that particularly caught my eye was that linking
West Ham with a move for prolific Galatasaray striker, Burak Yilmaz. Yilmaz
has a very good strike rate in Turkish football, having scored 77 times in
133 appearances for Galatasaray and notched 58 goals in 93 matches for,
former club, Trabzonspor. We know that Slaven Bilic is an admirer of the
player and there were strong rumours that last summer West Ham made an
unsuccessful £3.5m bid for the striker's services. At 30 year's of age,
Yilmaz is probably ready for a last big move to the Premier League and it
has been reported that he is in the final year of his contract with
Galatasaray. So under these circumstances it is possible that the Turkish
club will seek to cash in with a cut-price deal this winter.
However, he is not the only striker that we are being linked with. There
have also been numerous reports suggesting that West Ham are interested in
signing Roma's Ivory Coast international striker, Seydou Doumbia. Doumbia is
currently on loan at CSKA Moscow, who are also reported to be interested in
striking a permanent deal. He has certainly been in good form during his
spell on loan, having scored 8 goals in 15 appearances (in all competitions)
to date. Doumbia only joined Roma last January, but his form in Serie A was
disappointing, only scoring 2 goals in 13 matches. Hence the advent of the
loan deal, but it is strongly rumoured that Roma wish to cut their losses in
January. It has not been reported whether the current loan deal gives CSKA
Moscow first option to sign the player permanently.
Interestingly, we have also been linked once again with Islam Slimani of
Sporting. Readers will recall that West Ham were originally linked to
Slimani in 2014, prior to the World Cup Finals, when it was reported that we
had agreed a deal to sign the striker for £6m. However, we delayed closing
the deal (for whatever reason). And after he starred for Algeria, in that
summer's WC, his valuation subsequently soared. Even these latest reports
quote a fee of approximately £15-18m. As such, I very much doubt that the
club would be in a position to pay that sort of fee (plus wages) in January,
unless there was a significant outgoing deal acting as a catalyst. What does
make sense is recruiting Slimani as cover/competition for Sakho. Indeed,
Slimani's style of centre-forward play is much more akin to that of Sakho,
having the ability to lead the line, work the channels, hold up the ball,
bring others in to play and finish (including strength in the air). The 27
year old has scored a total of 31 goals in 75 appearances for Sporting and
18 goals in 40 matches for Algeria. Could David Sullivan surprise us all by
cashing in on Andy Carroll and using the fee/wages freed to bring in
Slimani?
Another potential deal that could have mileage, is that linking us with a
loan move for 29 year old Japanese international play-maker, Keisuke Honda.
Honda is currently out of favour at AC Milan, having failed to impress in
Serie A, scoring just 9 goals in 56 games. He has also only started on four
occasions in this current campaign and a loan move would definitely benefit
the player as well as his club. Readers may well recall Honda establishing a
major reputation whilst playing for CSKA Moscow, including some impressive
creative displays in the Champions League. If the player can recapture that
sort of form then he would be a valuable addition. Is it not likely that
Bilic would seek to bring in another play-maker to cover for Lanzini and the
rehabilitation and return of Payet? We shall see?
Elsewhere, there have also been rumours aplenty on possible outgoing deals.
Aside from the Collins and O'Brien to Sunderland and 'Liverpool want to
steal Lanzini' conjecture, both Zarate and Ogbonna have been linked with
moves back to Serie A. In Zarate's case, agents have allegedly reported that
the player is unhappy with his playing time at West Ham and they are
consequently exploring options for a January move. Amongst those options are
said to be Torino, Gerona and Hellas Verona. Similarly, a public statement
by former West Ham Director of Football, Gianluca Nani, has sparked
speculation that Ogbonna could return to Italy. In the latter case, it is
thought that Florentina are interested in signing the Italian international
centre-back.
The probability is that business will be minimal in January, with the
acquisition of an extra play-maker on loan the most likely option. However,
there is always the possibility that an outstanding player could suddenly
become available (such as one of Bilic's former charges at Beskitas) and the
club will resultantly transact some major transfer business. We will
probably be actively looking to secure outgoing deals for Collins, O'Brien
and Jarvis to free up some wage money and (if possible) secure a transfer
fee. I do not think the Ogbonna move is likely, but someone like Zarate
could possibly go to facilitate another striker deal. I suppose the big
unknown factor is Andy Carroll and how the club would respond to an
acceptable offer by the likes of Newcastle United or Sunderland? One thing
is certain, potential suitors can forget about getting Carroll on the cheap.
I would imagine it would take at least a bid in the region of £10-12m to
tempt the club. Alternatively, perhaps nothing will happen until the summer
window, if at all?
Finally, it is Spurs up next this Sunday and hopefully we are more than
ready for them. We need Lanzini to effect a smooth, and effective,
transition to the central play-maker role and the other midfielders to step
up to compensate for the considerable loss of Payet. In particular, it may

ankle injury that has ruled him out of action for at least three months. The

summer, suffered the injury during West Ham's recent 1-1 draw with Everton
after a challenge with James McCarthy. Payet's extended absence will come as
a blow to Slaven Billic's side given that the Frenchman's early form has
helped the club climb to sixth place in the Premier League table. It was
initially feared that Payet would have to undergo surgery to help repair the
damage to his ankle but he is glad to have avoided such a scenario. "Of
course it is a big relief for me that I will not need an operation," he told

been boosted after the club revealed they are willing to listen to offers
for the player. The Hammers had a bid rejected for the Turkish international

targets have increased with the news the Turkish outfit are unable to rule
out selling the forward. Hammers boss Slaven Bilic has been linked with

West Ham United and Everton have both been placed on alert after top
transfer target Keisuke Honda admitted he is unhappy with his current role
as a bench player. The Japanese international has been frustrated by his
lack of playing time for AC Milan this season and he could be set to make a
move to the Premier League at the turn of the new year.
The Hammers were dealt a blow when playmaker Dimitri Payet suffered a long
term injury, ruling him out for three months which could have an adverse
effect on the East London side's campaign. Now Slaven Bilic is believed to
be on the look out for additions in January and Honda, 29, is thought to fit
the bill. The Upton Park side have made an impressive start to the campaign
having already beaten Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal, and will be

West Ham are set to sign 17-year-old goalkeeper Pablo Vasquez, who has
recently been on trial at the club. The Spaniard was released by Sevilla
after nagging injury concerns and began playing for his local side in
Nervion. A report from Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo (via Inside
Futbol), says that the Hammers' staff were so impressed by Vasquez during
his trial, they've offered him a contract. However, it looks likely that
Vasquez won't be moving to London immediately and instead he will join up
with his new team-mates for the beginning of the 2015/16 season. Obviously,
Vasquez will come in and join up with the West Ham youth development
programme and won't be competing with Adrian or Darren Randolph for first
team recognition immediately. However, the aim will be to prepare him to
eventually be in a position where he can put pressure on those two and

Having marked his 50th Premier League appearance for the Hammers last time
out against Everton, Aaron Cresswell is hoping to build on his outstanding
half-century against Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday. Since joining West Ham
United in June 2014, the left-back has gone from strength to strength; not
only taking the step up to the Premier League in his stride but also being
crowned Hammer of the Year at the end of his debut season. The 25-year-old's
achievement is even more impressive considering that he has reached 50
league games in the quickest possible time, not to mention the fact he has
played every minute of those games. Reflecting on his milestone, Cresswell
said: "It's a nice figure to reach, I didn't actually realise at the time.
"A friend of mine texted me after the game, touch wood I haven't had any
injuries, and hopefully that continues. "I had a similar sort of thing at
Ipswich, I played there for three seasons and I think I only missed six
games in that time. Thankfully through the majority of my career I've stayed
injury free."
While the Hammers have thoroughly enjoyed the left-back's fitness record as
well as his sparkling form, they have not been so lucky with Cresswell's
teammates Dimitri Payet and Enner Valencia. With both attack minded players
set for a spell on the side-lines, Cresswell conceded their absences would
be keenly felt: "These things happen in football, it wasn't the best of
tackles (on Payet). At the same time, Enner has had no luck and he's out
injured again. When these things happen you just have to keep your head
down, work even harder and come back strong.
"We haven't had a game since Dimi's injury, so we haven't had to change
formation or style yet. I'm sure that's what the manager has been thinking
about a lot. Training wise, we're still buzzing about, we've done quite well
this season so we're confident and we're all looking forward to the
Tottenham game. "Obviously it's not nice to see players get injured, their
teammates and fellow professionals. For us, we have to get on with our jobs
and be s professional as possible."
Having enjoyed a few days rest and recuperation over the international
break, the defender is now raring to go with rivals Tottenham Hotspur in his

best we have a very good chance, and that breeds a lot of confidence."

Hello everyone,
We will start with Dimitri Payet, who has suffered a significant high ankle
sprain, or syndesmosis injury, to his left leg.
After consulting the specialist on Monday, the ankle specialist decided not
to operate on Dimitri, which is good news. The bad news is that he will
still be out for 12 weeks if all goes to plan.
Dimi is an intelligent, experienced football player with a good body
awareness and understands the biomechanics of the injury he has suffered. He
is a top professional and positive about the rehabilitation period ahead.
The first phase is to let the body heal and it is important that his high
ankle sprain is given the ability to scar. The ligaments are damaged and
need to get strong again, and this is done by allowing scar tissue to
develop.
For two weeks, he will be using the boot to keep the joint in a certain
position, allowing the body to heal without straining the injured ligaments.
Enner Valencia has suffered a high ankle sprain to his right leg. He is
going through an immobilisation period of two weeks at present and we will
reassess the situation at the end of this period.
We have some positive news regarding Diafra Sakho, who has returned to full
training following his recovery from a quadriceps injury suffered ahead of
the Watford game. Diafra will be available for Sunday's game at Tottenham
Hotspur.
Pedro Obiang will join training this week after recovering from the thigh
injury he suffered in training before the Watford away match.
Alex Song came through his first game in six months against Reading. It was
a success and he had no reaction from a medical point of view.
He is training fully with the squad for several weeks now and is getting
closer to making his return to the Premier League.
We are coming to the end of the international break. James Collins returned
after playing 45 minutes for Wales in good health, while we all congratulate
Darren Randolph on helping Republic of Ireland to qualify for EURO 2016.
Unfortunately, Darren picked up minor knock and will miss a few days off
training.
Cheikhou Kouyate had a very long haul flight to and from Madagascar, where
Senegal drew 2-2, and he then captained his country and scored in a 3-0 in
in the second leg.
So I'm pleased to report that everyone is looking forward to Sunday's big
game with Tottenham. Let's hope we can get another fine away win.

Valencia - I hope to be back as soon as possible

Enner Valencia has vowed to make a return to first-team action as quickly as
possible and hopes to play a major role for West Ham United in 2016.
Valencia was forced to miss the start of the season after he was injured
during the Europa League game agains AFC Astra Giurgiu and only made his
return to action against Watford at the end of October.
But the Ecuador international suffered more heartbreak in the next game when
he came on as a substitute against Everton and damaged his ankle following a
challenge with Seamus Coleman.
After seeing a specialist this week, Valencia was told he would be ruled out
of action until the start of the New Year, but the 26-year-old says he will
be doing everything to come back sooner.
Valencia said: "Thank God the injury isn't quite as bad as initially
thought. I hope to be back as soon as possible.
"I was worried when the injury happened. When I clashed with the Everton
player I feared it might be the same problem (as before) but it wasn't, it
was a minor ligament issue.
"I'm following all the doctor's advice and despite wearing a boot, my aim is
to get back as soon as possible.
"The first injury I suffered here was the first serious injury in my career,
it was very tough but I was very impressed by how good the medical team are
here.
"They do an amazing job and I was able to return three weeks earlier than
expected. Now more than ever I need to put my faith in them, continue to
work hard and hopefully not get many injuries in the future."
Valencia has been overwhelmed by the support that his team-mates, the
medical staff and the fans have showed towards him this season and hopes to
repay their faith by coming back and producing his best form for the Club.
Valencia added: "It definitely helps. The people have been incredibly
understanding - the board, the fans, the staff and of course my teammates.
"Being injured is the worst thing that can happen to a footballer so having
all this support is really fantastic. It's helping me have a quicker
recovery.
"I have received so many supportive messages recently on my social media
profiles, saying things like 'I hope you get back soon' and 'We would like
you back as soon as possible'. The support has been absolutely fantastic so
I would like to thank them for that."
Valencia was gutted to see his team-mate Dimitri Payet also ruled out for
three months with an ankle injury, but hopes the team will be able to cope
without both of them and can continue their impressive start to the
campaign.
"Dimitri has been having a spectacular season so far, he has been one of the
best players in the Premier League. His injury is a very unfortunate thing
to happen. We all wish him the best and hope he gets back as soon as
possible.
"I haven't had the chance to play so much this season but Dimitri has played
every game and he's been the main man. The Club did make some very good
signings this summer so I think there are players who can come in and do
well and keep our form going."

Hammers get hands-off warning from Cherries

West Ham have been warned off making any sort of move for Bournemouth winger
Matt Ritchie. The Irons are just one club that has tracked the 26 year old
along with West Brom, Manchester United and Stoke but Cherries boss Eddie
Howe insists he's not for sale. And ClaretandHugh was told this evening:
"We've scouted him – he's a good player."
But Howe insisted on Sky Sports News the club wasn't looking to sell the
player but added all bids would be considered on their merits.y'Matty's
(Ritchie) a good player so it's not a surprise to me he's linked to the top
clubs,' Howe told Sky Sports News. 'We'd have to see that (a bid) on its
individual merit, but certainly we're not looking to sell him. 'Matt Ritchie
on form and playing well is a threat to anybody. Whenever any of our players
gets linked, it's not welcome by us. 'We're not a selling club and we
certainly want to keep the squad together if we can in January and not the
other way.' The 26-year-old Ritchie signed for the south coast club from

Hammers set OS season tickets target

West Ham have confirmed for the first time that they hope to increase season
ticket holders from the current 26,000 at the Boleyn Ground to between
35,000 and 40,000 season ticket holders at the Olympic Stadium.
If West Ham achieve their upper 40,000 season ticket holder target at the
Olympic Stadium it means few tickets will be available for general sale at
the newly transformed stadium. With at least 3,000 seats reserved for away
supporters for Premier League games and another 3,600 seats reserved for
corporate members, around 7,400 would be left for general sale but many of
these may be given away free of charge of part of the club's agreement with
Newham council to provide up to 100,000 tickets to local residents.
Former Arsenal director now West Ham's commercial director, Felicity Barnard
revealed that the season ticket target in an interview at a recent brand
conference which can be seen below.
"We are moving to 35,000, hoping to get to 40,000 (season tickets),
obviously with season tickets gone that allows us to have a much more fluid
match by match experience and they are going very well so we are on track to
make those numbers, absolutely. In hospitality we are doubling from 2,000 to
4,000 and we sold out in all but one lounge, so we are very pleased" Barnard
told the interviewer.

The Olympic Stadium which has seen Athletics and the Rugby World Cup this
year has been transformed once again into a race track ahead of the Race of
Champions event this weekend.
The Race Of Champions is an annual end-of-season contest which has been held
for over 25 years. It brings together the world's greatest drivers from
motor sport's major disciplines – including Formula 1, World Rally, Le Mans,
MotoGP, Nascar, IndyCar and the X-Games and let's them battle head-to-head
in identical machinery.
In recent years ROC has visited the Stade de France in Paris (2004-2006),

Injured Dimtri Payet has revealed he was in Paris at the time of the
terrorist attacks. The 28-year-old French man has said he is pleased that
the England game against France was allowed to take place at Wembley tonight
and hopes that sport can help bring everyone together. Payet told WHUFC.com:
"It is a very difficult time. I was in Paris over the weekend and I was very
close to everything that happened." "The support that sport can provide in
this case and with many important sporting figures showing their support has
helped for the game to take place.
"I have seen photos of Wembley in red, white and blue which is very special.
Aside from the match itself, it is going to be a very emotional evening." On
Sunday the player posted a message in French on twitter and instagram
saying "All my thoughts to the victims of these heinous crimes. Rest in

Premier League in match day security talks

Premier League bosses have issued a statement in which they discuss the
present siutation regarding security measures which may surround the weekend
fixtures and and any requirements going forward. ClaretandHugh approached
the PL this morning and was given the following statement which we trust
will come as an assurance to fans. It reads: "We are actively engaged with
our security advisers and the appropriate authorities, including the Home
Office and senior representatives from the Police, to assess current
security guidance to Premier League clubs. There is a club meeting later
this week where a full security briefing will be given. Following that,
further guidance will be issued to the clubs as well as a public statement
so fans are fully aware of what to expect when arriving at stadiums."

CandH man's night with the French!

ClaretandHugh's historian Nigel Kahn was at the England v France match – an
event that that will long live in the memory of those who crowded into the
stadium following the Paris terror attack. Nige is a "tough old cookie " –
having been brought up on stories of the bombings suffered by the 2nd World
War bombings suffered in the area. And he declared: "It never occurred to me
not to go – you simply go about your business but it was an odd night. "I
was there for the football but I saw many English people who I think were
there for an event and the show of solidarity between the French and our
folk was great. "There were many English kids wearing French shirts and
carrying French flags and I found myself in the 'wrong end' alongside the
visiting fans who at times were chanting for England. They were in great
spirits "There was a real show of force from armed police but it's a tribute
to the security at football staiums that these people have never got in. "Ok
there have been acts of war but what brings it home to you so strongly is
that the people who died were doing what we do – eating, drinking and having
a good time. "It was good to be a part of it and good to see England win."

Zarate agent may be busy!

Mauro Zarate's agent is apparently attempting to organise a transfer back to
Italy for his client say the Italian media. The 28-year-old has made three
starts and scored two Premier League goals for the Hammers so far this
season but he is reportedly keen on moving in order to find increased
playing time. According to GazzettaTV, Zarate's agent has been in
preliminary contact with Hellas, Verona, Genoa and and Torino as he seeks a
club interested in signing his client before the January transfer window.
Zarate previously played in Serie A while on loan at Lazio from Birmingham
City but he struggled after the deal was made permanent for around £14
million in 2009. The Argentine also made 22 appearances, scoring twice,
while on loan with Inter Milan from Lazio. Whether this all just talk in an
attempt to unsettle the player remains to be seen. Zarate has previously
been touted around other clubs while still a West Ham player. On that
occasion the player denied the agent acted on his behalf and denied he was
his adviser.

Aaron Cresswell is refusing to worry about the fact that England
international duty has so far passed him by. With France beaten last night,
the brilliant left back – now having played a remarkable 50 games since his
arrival from Ipswich – has only West Ham on his mind. He said: "I never
really look at it like I should be in the squad. don't compare myself to
the players that are in the squad. I just concentrate on doing my best for
West Ham and hopefully one day it will happen. If you ask any pro footballer
what their ambitions are, that would be right up there and a highlight for
any player. "But at the moment I just concentrate on doing my best for West
Ham. I'm just going to keep my head down and keep working."

Lloris 'emotionally drained' ahead of Irons

Spurs goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris has admitted he needs to he needs
to refocus and recover ahead of the Irons visit on Sunday. And the France
goalkeeper declared himself 'emotionally drained'as he prepares to take off
the Hammers. With over 60 per cent of the Spurs squad having been on
international duty the Hammers certainly have the edge in terms of fitness,
preparation and emotional stability. Lloris said: "We have to thank the
English for the reception they gave us, for their support (at Wembley). What
they did for us was very strong, very moving. It was big of them. "The last
three days, with the preparations we've had, had clearly taken something out
of us. But the result wasn't the most important thing about this evening. It
was secondary. "Now we have to go back to our clubs, every one of us,
refocus and recover. There will be better days than this ahead, for all of
us."

TURKISH STRIKER TO ARRIVE IN JANUARY?

The speculation regarding incoming and outgoing January transfer deals has
already began. One report that particularly caught my eye was that linking
West Ham with a move for prolific Galatasaray striker, Burak Yilmaz. Yilmaz
has a very good strike rate in Turkish football, having scored 77 times in
133 appearances for Galatasaray and notched 58 goals in 93 matches for,
former club, Trabzonspor. We know that Slaven Bilic is an admirer of the
player and there were strong rumours that last summer West Ham made an
unsuccessful £3.5m bid for the striker's services. At 30 year's of age,
Yilmaz is probably ready for a last big move to the Premier League and it
has been reported that he is in the final year of his contract with
Galatasaray. So under these circumstances it is possible that the Turkish
club will seek to cash in with a cut-price deal this winter.
However, he is not the only striker that we are being linked with. There
have also been numerous reports suggesting that West Ham are interested in
signing Roma's Ivory Coast international striker, Seydou Doumbia. Doumbia is
currently on loan at CSKA Moscow, who are also reported to be interested in
striking a permanent deal. He has certainly been in good form during his
spell on loan, having scored 8 goals in 15 appearances (in all competitions)
to date. Doumbia only joined Roma last January, but his form in Serie A was
disappointing, only scoring 2 goals in 13 matches. Hence the advent of the
loan deal, but it is strongly rumoured that Roma wish to cut their losses in
January. It has not been reported whether the current loan deal gives CSKA
Moscow first option to sign the player permanently.
Interestingly, we have also been linked once again with Islam Slimani of
Sporting. Readers will recall that West Ham were originally linked to
Slimani in 2014, prior to the World Cup Finals, when it was reported that we
had agreed a deal to sign the striker for £6m. However, we delayed closing
the deal (for whatever reason). And after he starred for Algeria, in that
summer's WC, his valuation subsequently soared. Even these latest reports
quote a fee of approximately £15-18m. As such, I very much doubt that the
club would be in a position to pay that sort of fee (plus wages) in January,
unless there was a significant outgoing deal acting as a catalyst. What does
make sense is recruiting Slimani as cover/competition for Sakho. Indeed,
Slimani's style of centre-forward play is much more akin to that of Sakho,
having the ability to lead the line, work the channels, hold up the ball,
bring others in to play and finish (including strength in the air). The 27
year old has scored a total of 31 goals in 75 appearances for Sporting and
18 goals in 40 matches for Algeria. Could David Sullivan surprise us all by
cashing in on Andy Carroll and using the fee/wages freed to bring in
Slimani?
Another potential deal that could have mileage, is that linking us with a
loan move for 29 year old Japanese international play-maker, Keisuke Honda.
Honda is currently out of favour at AC Milan, having failed to impress in
Serie A, scoring just 9 goals in 56 games. He has also only started on four
occasions in this current campaign and a loan move would definitely benefit
the player as well as his club. Readers may well recall Honda establishing a
major reputation whilst playing for CSKA Moscow, including some impressive
creative displays in the Champions League. If the player can recapture that
sort of form then he would be a valuable addition. Is it not likely that
Bilic would seek to bring in another play-maker to cover for Lanzini and the
rehabilitation and return of Payet? We shall see?
Elsewhere, there have also been rumours aplenty on possible outgoing deals.
Aside from the Collins and O'Brien to Sunderland and 'Liverpool want to
steal Lanzini' conjecture, both Zarate and Ogbonna have been linked with
moves back to Serie A. In Zarate's case, agents have allegedly reported that
the player is unhappy with his playing time at West Ham and they are
consequently exploring options for a January move. Amongst those options are
said to be Torino, Gerona and Hellas Verona. Similarly, a public statement
by former West Ham Director of Football, Gianluca Nani, has sparked
speculation that Ogbonna could return to Italy. In the latter case, it is
thought that Florentina are interested in signing the Italian international
centre-back.
The probability is that business will be minimal in January, with the
acquisition of an extra play-maker on loan the most likely option. However,
there is always the possibility that an outstanding player could suddenly
become available (such as one of Bilic's former charges at Beskitas) and the
club will resultantly transact some major transfer business. We will
probably be actively looking to secure outgoing deals for Collins, O'Brien
and Jarvis to free up some wage money and (if possible) secure a transfer
fee. I do not think the Ogbonna move is likely, but someone like Zarate
could possibly go to facilitate another striker deal. I suppose the big
unknown factor is Andy Carroll and how the club would respond to an
acceptable offer by the likes of Newcastle United or Sunderland? One thing
is certain, potential suitors can forget about getting Carroll on the cheap.
I would imagine it would take at least a bid in the region of £10-12m to
tempt the club. Alternatively, perhaps nothing will happen until the summer
window, if at all?
Finally, it is Spurs up next this Sunday and hopefully we are more than
ready for them. We need Lanzini to effect a smooth, and effective,
transition to the central play-maker role and the other midfielders to step
up to compensate for the considerable loss of Payet. In particular, it may
prove to be a case of what we lose in guile, skill and vision being
compensated for by strength, power and pace! In particular, we definitely
need Kouyate to have a big game and for Song/Obiang and Antonio to play a
role in the match. It is time to prove that we are very far from a 'one man'
team! I am sticking with my call (made last week) of a 1-2 away victory for
the Hammers. COYI!

Dimitri Payet has revealed that he does not require an operation on the
ankle injury that has ruled him out of action for at least three months. The
28-year-old, who joined the Hammers from Marseille on a free transfer in the
summer, suffered the injury during West Ham's recent 1-1 draw with Everton
after a challenge with James McCarthy. Payet's extended absence will come as
a blow to Slaven Billic's side given that the Frenchman's early form has
helped the club climb to sixth place in the Premier League table. It was
initially feared that Payet would have to undergo surgery to help repair the
damage to his ankle but he is glad to have avoided such a scenario. "Of
course it is a big relief for me that I will not need an operation," he told
the club's official website. "I speak from experience and having had a
couple of operations, it is not an easy thing to cope with. "It is good news
on that front but it doesn't change the time that it will take me to
recover. "It has been a week since I sustained the injury. I am doing well."
Payet also praised the support that he has received in the early stages of
his spell on the sidelines and is already focusing his efforts on a return
to action in the New Year. "The support has been fantastic from my
teammates, everyone at the club and from the supporters. "It is during these
these times that you can feel really loved. "That is very important and I
want to get back to playing as quickly as I can and perform to the way I

Payet's absence through injury. The Frenchman has been an integral member of
Slaven Billic's side this season but has been ruled out for three months
with the ankle injury he sustained prior to the international break. The
28-year-old is West Ham's top scorer with five Premier League goals this
term and his absence is expected to leave a creative void in the Hammers'
midfield. Antonio is disappointed that Payet will not feature until the New
Year but is hopeful that his spell on the sidelines will give others an
opportunity to prove their worth. "Dimitri has been absolutely superb so far
so he will be greatly missed. "It's time for the other boys to step up," he
told the club's official website. "Dimitri getting injured is a great loss,
as well as Enner [Valencia], but their absence gives other players the

Galatasaray to listen to offers for Hammers target

West Ham United's hopes of landing Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz have
been boosted after the club revealed they are willing to listen to offers
for the player. The Hammers had a bid rejected for the Turkish international
in the summer and are already lining up a second offer in the January
transfer window. But their chances of landing one of their top transfer
targets have increased with the news the Turkish outfit are unable to rule
out selling the forward. Hammers boss Slaven Bilic has been linked with
making moves for a number of his former players at Besiktas and Burak Yilmaz
could be the first to walk through the doors at the Boleyn Ground in
January. An initial offer of £3.5 million was rejected in the summer and
Bilic is thought to be readying an improved bid.

Hammers and Everton on alert as Milan midfielder ponders future

West Ham United and Everton have both been placed on alert after top
transfer target Keisuke Honda admitted he is unhappy with his current role
as a bench player. The Japanese international has been frustrated by his
lack of playing time for AC Milan this season and he could be set to make a
move to the Premier League at the turn of the new year.
The Hammers were dealt a blow when playmaker Dimitri Payet suffered a long
term injury, ruling him out for three months which could have an adverse
effect on the East London side's campaign. Now Slaven Bilic is believed to
be on the look out for additions in January and Honda, 29, is thought to fit
the bill. The Upton Park side have made an impressive start to the campaign
having already beaten Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal, and will be
hopeful of achieving qualification for European football.

WEST HAM SET TO SIGN NEW GOALKEEPER

West Ham are set to sign 17-year-old goalkeeper Pablo Vasquez, who has
recently been on trial at the club. The Spaniard was released by Sevilla
after nagging injury concerns and began playing for his local side in
Nervion. A report from Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo (via Inside
Futbol), says that the Hammers' staff were so impressed by Vasquez during
his trial, they've offered him a contract. However, it looks likely that
Vasquez won't be moving to London immediately and instead he will join up
with his new team-mates for the beginning of the 2015/16 season. Obviously,
Vasquez will come in and join up with the West Ham youth development
programme and won't be competing with Adrian or Darren Randolph for first
team recognition immediately. However, the aim will be to prepare him to
eventually be in a position where he can put pressure on those two and
eventually force his way into Slaven Bilic's plans

Michail Antonio has opened up on his patient wait for a West Ham chance that
may arrive after Dimitri Payet's injury. 4 The former Nottingham Forest
winger has had to watch West Ham's impressive start from the sidelines
haivng made just one appearance since his summer switch to the Premier
League. His late introduction in their memorable 2-1 win at Manchester City
is his only Hammers run out to date but with Payet's injury there is a
vacancy in Slaven Bilic's side that Antonio will hope to fill. And ahead of
Sunday's London derby with Tottenham Antonio revealed he always expected a
wait for his chance. "When I joined, I knew it wasn't going to be easy to

official website. "It's one of those things where I need to wait and bide my
time. "I've been part of quite a few derbies. They are always great matches

Dimitri Payet has nothing but praise for the way his team-mates, the medical
staff and all the fans have helped him overcome his injury disappointment
and has vowed to come back even stronger. Payet was forced to leave the
field during the 1-1 draw with Everton with an ankle injury and after
consultations with a specialist, the scans showed he would be ruled out of
action for three months. The France star received positive news this week
that he would not need surgery to clear up the problem, but he still faces a
lengthy spell on the sidelines. Payet made an emotional return to the Club's
training ground on Tuesday and West Ham TV caught an exclusive interview
with the talented midfielder on how his recovery is going and the support he
is receiving from everyone at the Club.
Payet said: "It has been a week since I sustained the injury. I am doing
well. I am surrounded by very good people which has allowed me to recover
and I am keeping my head high. It is a long period but I am looking forward
to making a return to action. "Of course it is a big relief for me that I
will not need an operation. I speak from experience and having had a couple
of operations it is not an easy thing to cope with. It is good news on that
front but it doesn't change the time that it will take me to recover. "I am
taking the news as well as I can. There are more serious things that happen
in life and injuries happen in that situation. You have to put things in
perspective and the most important thing is for me to get back playing as
quickly as I can.
"The support has been fantastic from my team-mates, everyone at the Club and
from the supporters. It is during these times that you can really feel
loved. That is very important and I want to get back playing as quickly as I
can and perform to the way I have been doing so far this season. It has been
a dream for me. "It has been a big help to me with the support from the
fans. It has been incredible the support they have shown towards me and not
just at home, but when we play away as well. You can really feel the fans
support and I really hope it will become even greater as time goes on. "The
medical team here is excellent and they are doing everything they can to
help me. We have regular meetings every day where I get updates and that is
a big boost for me in the recovery process and getting back as quickly as I
can."
It has been a turbulent few days for Payet who made a return to France last
week and was in Paris when the attacks were taking place on Friday night.
The 28-year-old is pleased that the England game against France was allowed
to take place at Wembley and hopes that sport can help bring everyone
together. Payet added: "It is a very difficult time. I was in Paris over the
weekend and I was very close to everything that happened. "The support that
sport can provide in this case and with many important sporting figures
showing their support has helped for the game to take place. "I have seen
photos of Wembley in red, white and blue which is very special. Aside from
the match itself, it is going to be a very emotional evening."

Gapes' glowing Foundation report

Ilford South MP and lifelong West Ham United supporter Mike Gapes has joined
those heaping praise on the West Ham United Foundation, after the Hammers'
community wing celebrated 25 years of community sport.
Mr Gapes has a longstanding association with the Club, both personally and
professionally, and insists West Ham has always taken great care of its
community.
And with the Club's fan base growing all the time, the Labour Co-operative
MP expect the Foundation will do likewise as the Hammers prepare for the big
move to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
He told West Ham TV: "The work that the Foundation has done in the
community, with different groups, girls and boys, in and out of schools, is
very important. The Club does put, and always has put, things back into the
community.
"In fact, I can remember years ago, when I was involved in a Thames Gateway
project, West Ham were supporting that, for young people, including young
offenders, who were coming out of prison, or were actually in prison, and
trying to encourage people to change their behaviour.
"It's actually very important. Football is the national game and lots of
people are affected by football and if you can't get people to be engaged in
educational or other activities in a conventional way, often football,
football clubs, Premier League clubs, and West Ham among them, can provide
the key to that.
"West Ham is a community-based club and with the move to the Olympic
Stadium, it will still be a community-based club. Because the club
represents and covers the community, and obviously it's important that we
get that message out to all the different groups in the area around the
ground and wider, because the fan base is so big now."
On the pitch, Mr Gapes is thoroughly enjoying what he has seen this season
and is hopeful that the good times are here to stay under the stewardship of
Slaven Bilic.
"As a Season Ticket Holder over the years, I've seen the ups and downs, the
setbacks, so you get used to it, but there's something about this team, this
year, I think the quality is really good," he added.
"They're playing attractive football, and obviously we've had some really
good wins against teams that were, last season, in the top six and this
season, we're in the top six! I think we're going to have a good year."

Anthony Taylor has been named as the referee for West Ham United's big
London derby at Tottenham this weekend. The 37-year-old, who hails from
Wythenshawe in Greater Manchester has been widely hailed as the worst
referee in the Premier League by Hammers fans following his disastrous
performances in recent months. Taylor has issued 38 yellow cards so far this
season in ten Premier League matches and just one red - to West Ham's
goalkeeper Adrian in the 2-1 home defeat against Leicester for 'dangerous
play'. However it is for his previous appearances at the Boleyn Ground that
he is best remembered for - notably the ludicrous dismissals of West Ham's
Carlton Cole and Everton's Darren Gibson in a Premier League meeting back in
December 2012.
Taylor was also jeered off the field by the Boleyn faithful in April 2014,
following his performance in a 2-1 home defeat against Liverpool - a game in
which he awarded two incredibly weak penalties to the visitors. Last season
his tally of 115 yellow cards was only beaten by Mike Dean and Martin
Atkinson. And since being appointed by the PGMOL five years ago, he had
averaged one red card every five games.

West Ham keeping hold of midfielder Manuel Lanzini - David Sullivan

West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan has warned off rival clubs interested in
signing rising star Manuel Lanzini. There have been reports of Liverpool
weighing up a move for the Argentina midfielder following an impressive
start to life in the Premier League. Lanzini has scored four goals this
season, including one against the Reds in West Ham's 3-0 win at Anfield in
August. The 22-year-old moved to Upton Park in the summer on a season-long
loan from United Arab Emirates side Al Jazira, and Sullivan insists his club
have the conditions in place in the contract to sign him permanently. "I
know there have been some reports in the media over the weekend surrounding
the future of Manuel Lanzini," Sullivan told the club's website.
"We have an unbreakable option with both Lanzini and his club, so any other
team's interest is irrelevant. "Manuel has been a fantastic signing for the
club and we all hope he can maintain this superb run of form for the rest of
the season." Sullivan also confirmed forward Enner Valencia will be out
until early January with the ankle injury he suffered against Everton on
November 7.

Envious glances are to be expected considering the little Argentine's start
to the season; displays full of industry, guile, stamina, quality and
technique, not to mention 5 goals and 2 assists, will have left many a
recruitment department scratching their heads as to how this little jewel
went unnoticed.
Mr Sullivan has acted promptly and resolutely to nip these rumours in the
bud. Indeed, this is a stance we have seen before, when star performers such
as Tomkins and Kouyate were linked with moves away from E13.
On previous occasions, Mr Sullivan's fighting talk reflected the Club's
position of strength. After all, the players were under contract, playing
regularly, earning decent salaries and about to move to a world-class new
stadium. Further, the Club's finances and marketability have never been
stronger; frankly there is no need to sell.
But, Manuel Lanzini is not a player 'under contract'. Or, if he is, a number
of high profile examples would suggest that our 'right-to-buy' clause is not
worth the paper it's written on.
The previous summer's events involving Toby Alderweireld's switch to Spurs
are a case in point. As you will recall, the defender had previously been on
loan at Southampton. A clause in their contract with parent club Athletico
Madrid allowed the Saints to sign the defender permanently for £6.8million
at the end of the loan deal. There were murmurs in the press that Atleti
could pay £1.5m to cancel the buy-out clause, but missed the deadline to do
so. What followed was a period of ambiguity, where what once seemed a cast
iron, legal entitlement to the player became increasingly watered down.
Presumably, the St Mary's club reached some sort of financial settlement
with the 2014 Champions League finalists, but the net result (and the one
that mattered) was that Alderweireld ended up plying his trade at White Hart
Lane.
Another worrying example is that of Mohammed Salah. When opportunities at
Chelsea became limited, the winger went out on loan in search of regular
first-team action. In the January transfer window, Salah joined Fiorentina
on an 18-month loan deal, for a reported fee of £700,000. After an excellent
second half to the campaign, Salah took a well-deserved summer break. But,
Salah never reported back for pre-season training in Florence. Instead, he
joined Serie A rivals Roma for the 2015/16 season. The Viola were incensed;
they waved their contract around and demanded that Salah re-join them. They
even suggested that Chelsea would have to replace Salah with an alternative
member of their expensively assembled squad. But, such demands were never
met.
These 2 contracts have clearly been breached. The Alderweireld agreement
contained a conditional clause; a certain event needed to occur in order to
trigger the clause. Such clauses are commonplace in commercial deals, as we
saw when Arouna Kone recently triggered a 12-month extension to his deal
(and bagged a hattrick to boot) against Big Sam's beleaguered Black Cats.
The requisite trigger in Alderweireld's case was the conclusion of the
season, coupled with the Saints retaining and actioning an interest in the
player. Those conditions were met, but the Saints failed to land their man.
The Salah 'Italian Job' is even more outrageous, for here was a player who
was 'under contract' in every sense of the word. Nevertheless, 'cash is
king' and both the parent clubs successfully managed to navigate or
circumvent their contracts so as to flog their assets for a better return
elsewhere.
Players are assets in a volatile environment. Their values can soar or
plummet in equal measure. Option-to-buy clauses are implemented by parent
clubs seeking to protect themselves against the risk of depreciation during
a lean loan spell. This logic was sensibly applied by Manchester City in the
deal which took Alvaro Negredo to Valencia; after an injury plagued first
season at the Mestella, his value would have dramatically decreased, but
City had already locked in the price. They didn't let Valencia have their
cake and eat it – a risk-free loan is becoming increasingly uncommon in an
era of soaring transfer fees – and the contract was followed to the letter.
On the other hand, when a player's performance exceeds expectation, his
current value will invariably outweigh the previously agreed buy-out price.
This then generates a margin to be bargained with. Whilst the parent club is
fully aware of their contractual obligations, they know that, if they
stretch that margin by selling the player to the highest bidder, this will
offset any repercussions of breaching the contract.
The Alderweireld and Salah deals have set a dangerous precedent as to how
'right to buy' clauses will play out in future. They cast considerable doubt
on Mr Sullivan's claims that such provisions are 'unbreakable'. If Lanzini's
performances continue to attract acclaim, we may well have a fight on our
hands to exercise our option, realise our investment and, ultimately, hold
onto our prized asset.

Hammers reveal Ogbonna's future

Suggestions that Angelo Ogbonna may be loaned out in January has been firmly
ruled out by West Ham. A claim in the Italian media that Fiorentina are set
to move in for the £8 million signing from Juventus appeared yesterday. And
former Irons employee Gianluca Nani said: "It can happen if he cannot
immerse himself in this world [English football]. A return to Italy in
January is strong."
Nani worked at West Ham under Zola between 2008 and 2010 as technical
director and had responsibility for the academy, scouting,transfers and for
the training ground department. He was dismissed when David Gold and David
Sullivan took over the club and although it's well known Ogbonna is
recovering from injury Nani has suggested the central defender has not
adapted to English football or life in this country. But a highly placed
source inside the club told ClaretandHugh tonight: "There's zero chance of
Angelo being loaned anywhere in January. He's been unlucky with injuries,
so we haven't seen the best of him, but he's a key member of our squad and
hopefully will be playing in the first team soon."

West Ham's clash with Tottenham on Super Sunday evokes happy memories for
Ravel Morrison. Here, we consider how the former Manchester United prodigy
is faring at Lazio and wonder what's next for a player still waiting to
unlock his huge potential… Two years ago at White Hart Lane, Ravel
Morrison's brilliant solo goal sealed a memorable 3-0 win for West Ham
against their London rivals, with Sam Allardyce describing his 50-yard
dribble and audacious dinked finish as "genius" in his post-match press
conference. "You will struggle to see a better goal this season," added the
former Hammers manager, and he wasn't alone in praising the talented
midfielder. Morrison appeared to be coming of age after a troubled start to
his career at Manchester United. He was in the form of his life, and his
thrilling performances for West Ham and England U21s had put him in
contention for a place in Roy Hodgson's World Cup squad. A few months later,
Morrison had lost his place in West Ham's starting line-up and any hopes of
making the plane to Brazil had evaporated amid reports of a falling out with
Allardyce. Perhaps the expectations had been unrealistic, but Morrison's
natural talent has been a source of excitement since his formative years at
United, where his grace in possession and ability to glide past opponents
set him apart from an early age.
After that tantalising glimpse of Morrison's quality at West Ham, another
roadblock in his career felt reminiscent of his departure from Old Trafford
in 2012. "He possessed as much natural talent as any youngster we ever
signed," Sir Alex Ferguson wrote in his new book Leading. "It was very
painful to sell him to West Ham in 2012 because he could have been a
fantastic player. But, over a period of years, the problems off the pitch
continued to escalate and we had little option but to cut the cord."
Much to the disappointment of many West Ham fans, there was no way back for
Morrison under Allardyce, either. There were flickers of class when he
scored six goals in 17 appearances on loan at QPR in 2014, but he lost his
place in the side as they navigated the Championship play-offs. An
unsuccessful stint at Cardiff was then cut short in January of this year,
and his contract at West Ham was terminated shortly afterwards.
Morrison agreed a deal with Lazio and began the latest chapter of his career
in Italy this season. It was a brave and unexpected move, and it appeared to
get off to a good start when a string of eye-catching performances in
pre-season immediately endeared him to Lazio supporters. In Rome, the
22-year-old has evoked memories of Paul Gascoigne, another maverick English
talent who became a cult figure at the club in the early 90s.
But while Morrison was an instant hit with the fans, he has found it
difficult to replicate his pre-season form consistently on the pitch. After
four substitute appearances, he was handed his first start in a 2-0 win away
to Rosenborg in the Europa League two weeks ago, but manager Stefano Pioli
has raised questions of his attitude and in September he said "he still
doesn't speak a word of Italian".
Sources in Italy say Morrison has already been guilty of missing training
sessions, and he appears to be near the bottom of Pioli's midfield pecking
order. But while his relationship with the manager is somewhat strained,
sporting director Igli Tare is determined for him to succeed at the club.
"Ravel Morrison is one of those classic footballers who is a bit eccentric,"
Tare told Sky Sports in Italy last month. "Without doubt he's an outstanding
player because he's got some great moves. People like him need time, but his
time will come."
Morrison has struggled to integrate with his new team-mates and spends most
of his time with his entourage. He sparked speculation over his future by
tweeting "January…" last month, but there have been encouraging signs too.
He is taking an intense Italian language course, he has struck up a
friendship with young winger Keita Balde, and his first start against
Rosenborg suggests he could get more opportunities. Morrison is just 22, but
the next few weeks could be key to his future. It's difficult to imagine him
staying at Lazio in January unless he gets more playing time, but it appears
he has work to do to earn Pioli's trust. West Ham would dearly love that
"genius" of two years ago in their side at White Hart Lane on Sunday, but
Morrison can't afford to dwell on the past. Right now, he faces a fight to
ensure his Italian adventure doesn't follow a familiar pattern.

The worst thing that could have happened was for Dimitri Payet to be out for
three months! Running it a close second – for this weekend anyway – is the
news that ref Anthony Taylor will be in charge of the Spurs/Irons game.
Taylor is no friend to the Hammers and has been widely condemned as being as
'bad as it gets" after some appallingly bad appearances notably the sendings
off of Carlton Cole and Everton's Darren Gibson in December 2012.
Taylor has 38 yellow cards and handing our one red – yes you've remembered
-, to West Ham's Adrian in the 2-1 home defeat against Leicester for
'dangerous play'. It's hard to remember a half decent appearance by the
Manchester based official who gave Liverpool a couple of soft spot kicks on
a previous occasion. The week just got worse.

OS revenue will not bridge that Spurs gap

Although our move to Olympic Stadium will bring increases in ticket, retail
and sponsorship it will still not allow the Irons to bridge the financial
gap with Spurs. The Hammers heavy discounting on the first season at the
Olympic Stadium on season tickets, together with half the number of
corporate seats compared to other London, means the increase in revenue will
be between £10-£15m per season. And speaking exclusively to Claret and Hugh
to a senior club insider previously told us: ""Our (increase in turnover)
will be £10m-15m as we have kept prices low at the OS. "There might be more
from retail and sponsorship. My figures relates JUST to tickets and
hospitality. Arsenal have 7,000 corporate, we have limited to 3,600 to make
lots of good seats available for ordinary (ie non corporate) supporters."
It is hoped that a further £15m turnover could be increased in retail and
sponsorship opportunities at the new Stadium but that might that time to
achieve. Based on 2014 released financial accounts Spurs has a turnover of
£181m compared to West Ham who had a turnover of nearly £121m in 2015 so a
£15m hike from moving the Olympic Stadium would still leave us £30m adrift
of Spurs if we increased turnover by £30m from the move. We will be between
£170m and £300m behind the top four. Manchester United have a turnover of
£433m, Man City £347m, Chelsea £324m, Arsenal £304m, Liverpool £256m based
on 2014 figures.
Catching up with Spurs in financial terms will also be a moving target as
they will undoubtedly generate further revenue from their move to their new
stadium which they will own. However, in the short term they will saddled
with increased debt to pay around £400m to build their new stadium. They are
likely to face years of austerity in the same way Arsenal faced years of
reduced spending after they built the Emirates stadium.
West Ham's turnover is currently 9th in the Premier League Everton £121m and
Newcastle £130m which are all above us in terms of financial power. All
Premier League clubs will benefit from a new TV deal next season adding tens
of millions to every club's turnover but the top club will benefit more –
making the gulf even larger.

Ogbonna rumour claim that he is not settled

Italy press claim Fiorentina is hoping to sign Hammer Angelo Ogbonna on
loan in the January transfer window, and Gianluca Nani says "It can happen
if he cannot immerse himself in this world [English football]. A return to
Italy in January is strong."
Gianluca Nani worked at West Ham under Zola between 2008 and 2010 as

Irons linked with versatile French defender

The Hammers are interested in signing Lille's teenage defender Benjamin
Pavard according to French website Mercato 365. The 19-year-old has come up
through the Lille youth system after joining the French club at the age of
just nine. Pavard has now broken through to the Lille first-team, making
five league appearances so far this season. Pavard is versatile, capable of
playing all across the back four, having featured at left back, centre back
and right back for Lille during his short career so far. The versatile
defender who can cover in a number of positions might interest West Ham
considering the contracts of James Collins and Joey O'Brien expire next
summer. Pavard may not be the finished article just yet, but he appears to
have lots of potential. He is part of the French Under 21 team and a number
of Premier League scouts were present when the France U21 team beat Northern
Ireland U21 1-0 last Thursday in the Euro qualifiers.

West Ham are the Premier League's second most effective club in front of

ratios of every Premier League club so far this season. Leading the way are
Leicester City who have been the most efficient team in front of goal thanks
to the form of attacking duo Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez.
Vardy's 12 goals have come from 48 shots giving the 28-year-old a conversion
rate of 25 per cent while Mahrez has enjoyed a conversion rate of 21 per
cent, scoring seven goals from 34 shots.
The Irons are a mere 0.1 per cent behind with a shot conversion of 14.2 per

Hammers hero considers the Carroll dilemma

Hammers hero Tony Cottee can't see Andy Carroll pushing his way past Diafra
Sakho to again become the club's Number One striker. But he hopes that this
won't deter the club's record signing from pursuing his career with the
Hammers. tough though that may be for him. Speaking exclusively to
ClaretandHugh Cottee said: "I like Andy a lot but if we're honest Sakho has
been amazing and genuinely looks our No 1 striker and with the style we are
now playing to playing he is key. "I tend to agree with the view that Andy
is going to find it difficult to become the regular starter when Sakho is
fit and it will be in his own hands how he receives that situation. "He may
feel that isn't enough for him – we will have to wait and see in the summer.
It's never easy to read what may be in a player's mind."

West Ham hold one big advantage over Spurs at the weekend following the
disappearnce of 64 per cent of their squad to international duty. And that
gives the Irons a big edge as the two managers attempt to get their game
plan in place for a massive White Hart Lane clash. Only 20 per cent of our
squad has been called away to join their national squads. "Those that are
fit will arrive perhaps tired from games and air travel so I have to fancy
the Irons despite the absence of out star man Dimitri Payet. ClaretandHugh's
top analyst Leroy Rosenior declared: "Any edge you can get before a game
like this is important and things look very much in our favour. "The Spurs
boss will have been unable to prepare properly with so many away. He has no

Manuel Lanzini has a buy-out clause of £5.5million. The Argentinian is
currently on a season-long spell with the Hammers and has hit the ground
running in the Premier League. The 22-year-old has four goals in 13
appearances and has been attracting attention from Liverpool, according to
reports. Bleacher Report claim Jurgen Klopp is keeping tabs on the
midfielder, asking for regular updates on his position at Upton Park.
However, West Ham co-owner Sullivan has quashed the rumours, calling them
'irrelevant' due to the east London club's deal. He has confirmed the
Hammers have the first option to sign Lanzini at the end of the season,
regardless of other club's interest. "We have an unbreakable option with
both Lanzini and his club, so any other team's interest is irrelevant," he
said. "Manuel has been a fantastic signing for the club and we all hope he
can maintain this superb run of form for the rest of the season."
The midfielder is understood to have a £5.5million buyout clause in his
current contract with parent club Al Jazira.

Are West Ham relying too heavily on this star's fitness? (not Payet)

That is two games that we have played without Sakho since he has been
injured, and on both occasions we have not been able to pick up three
points. Do we rely too heavily on Sakho and are our alternative choices not
good enough?
Diafra Sakho has had a different season compared to last, but both equally
as successful. This year Sakho has been working 10 times harder on the pitch
and is doing more work for the team, but in return is scoring less goals.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing as we have the likes of Lanzini who's
scoring and Payet (although now injured) who can step up to the mark and
provide the team with goals. We look completely different with Sakho up top
compared to the likes of Carroll as I feel they are two different players.
Sakho hounds defenses and presses them excellently, not allowing them time
on the ball, which in return gives our defence an easier task and it is
easier to regain possession we do not have.
Andy Carroll, as we have seen from the previous two games, isn't as
physically capable as Diafra is to press the ball for that long in a match
and I feel our play alternates because of this.
I am still very happy with the choices we have up front, don't get me wrong,
with the likes of Carroll, Valencia and Zarate , but I am not convinced that
any can do as well as Sakho can in that lone striker role. I feel like we
have missed Diafra massively these past couple of games and I am hoping that
he will be fit to face Spurs this coming Sunday, especially with star man
Dimitri Payet out for the next three months.
Personally, I do not think that we need to sign another striker in January
unless Sakho gets a long term injury. However, if Sakho is fit at the time
then I do not see any reason as to why we would need another striker as our
alternate choices currently can provide the team with goals, maybe not do as
much for the team but can still slot them home. If Diafra was to get a long
term injury, which hopefully he doesn't, I would look to bring someone in
who has similar qualities and will work just as hard for the team. A name
that springs to mind, who has been flying around twitter recently is highly
praised Doumbia, currently on loan at CSKA Moscow. He could get recalled
early by Roma if we show interest and pay the right amount, but I think he
would be a great fit and definitely scores goals.
Whether he would find it difficult coming to the Premier League half way
through the season is another question for another day but he would be my
signing if Sakho were to be ruled out at some point. However, currently I am
happy with our squad and we have strength in depth which is impacting on
individual performances all across the team. We remain hopeful that Sakho
will be fit for Sunday's game against Spurs and it is one all the fans are
looking forward to.

Dimitri Payet has nothing but praise for the way his team-mates, the medical
staff and all the fans have helped him overcome his injury disappointment
and has vowed to come back even stronger. Payet was forced to leave the
field during the 1-1 draw with Everton with an ankle injury and after
consultations with a specialist, the scans showed he would be ruled out of
action for three months. The France star received positive news this week
that he would not need surgery to clear up the problem, but he still faces a
lengthy spell on the sidelines. Payet made an emotional return to the Club's
training ground on Tuesday and West Ham TV caught an exclusive interview
with the talented midfielder on how his recovery is going and the support he
is receiving from everyone at the Club.
Payet said: "It has been a week since I sustained the injury. I am doing
well. I am surrounded by very good people which has allowed me to recover
and I am keeping my head high. It is a long period but I am looking forward
to making a return to action. "Of course it is a big relief for me that I
will not need an operation. I speak from experience and having had a couple
of operations it is not an easy thing to cope with. It is good news on that
front but it doesn't change the time that it will take me to recover. "I am
taking the news as well as I can. There are more serious things that happen
in life and injuries happen in that situation. You have to put things in
perspective and the most important thing is for me to get back playing as
quickly as I can.
"The support has been fantastic from my team-mates, everyone at the Club and
from the supporters. It is during these times that you can really feel
loved. That is very important and I want to get back playing as quickly as I
can and perform to the way I have been doing so far this season. It has been
a dream for me. "It has been a big help to me with the support from the
fans. It has been incredible the support they have shown towards me and not
just at home, but when we play away as well. You can really feel the fans
support and I really hope it will become even greater as time goes on. "The
medical team here is excellent and they are doing everything they can to
help me. We have regular meetings every day where I get updates and that is
a big boost for me in the recovery process and getting back as quickly as I
can."
It has been a turbulent few days for Payet who made a return to France last
week and was in Paris when the attacks were taking place on Friday night.
The 28-year-old is pleased that the England game against France was allowed
to take place at Wembley and hopes that sport can help bring everyone
together. Payet added: "It is a very difficult time. I was in Paris over the
weekend and I was very close to everything that happened. "The support that
sport can provide in this case and with many important sporting figures
showing their support has helped for the game to take place. "I have seen
photos of Wembley in red, white and blue which is very special. Aside from
the match itself, it is going to be a very emotional evening."

Gapes' glowing Foundation report

Ilford South MP and lifelong West Ham United supporter Mike Gapes has joined
those heaping praise on the West Ham United Foundation, after the Hammers'
community wing celebrated 25 years of community sport.
Mr Gapes has a longstanding association with the Club, both personally and
professionally, and insists West Ham has always taken great care of its
community.
And with the Club's fan base growing all the time, the Labour Co-operative
MP expect the Foundation will do likewise as the Hammers prepare for the big
move to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
He told West Ham TV: "The work that the Foundation has done in the
community, with different groups, girls and boys, in and out of schools, is
very important. The Club does put, and always has put, things back into the
community.
"In fact, I can remember years ago, when I was involved in a Thames Gateway
project, West Ham were supporting that, for young people, including young
offenders, who were coming out of prison, or were actually in prison, and
trying to encourage people to change their behaviour.
"It's actually very important. Football is the national game and lots of
people are affected by football and if you can't get people to be engaged in
educational or other activities in a conventional way, often football,
football clubs, Premier League clubs, and West Ham among them, can provide
the key to that.
"West Ham is a community-based club and with the move to the Olympic
Stadium, it will still be a community-based club. Because the club
represents and covers the community, and obviously it's important that we
get that message out to all the different groups in the area around the
ground and wider, because the fan base is so big now."
On the pitch, Mr Gapes is thoroughly enjoying what he has seen this season
and is hopeful that the good times are here to stay under the stewardship of
Slaven Bilic.
"As a Season Ticket Holder over the years, I've seen the ups and downs, the
setbacks, so you get used to it, but there's something about this team, this
year, I think the quality is really good," he added.
"They're playing attractive football, and obviously we've had some really
good wins against teams that were, last season, in the top six and this
season, we're in the top six! I think we're going to have a good year."

Anthony Taylor has been named as the referee for West Ham United's big
London derby at Tottenham this weekend. The 37-year-old, who hails from
Wythenshawe in Greater Manchester has been widely hailed as the worst
referee in the Premier League by Hammers fans following his disastrous
performances in recent months. Taylor has issued 38 yellow cards so far this
season in ten Premier League matches and just one red - to West Ham's
goalkeeper Adrian in the 2-1 home defeat against Leicester for 'dangerous
play'. However it is for his previous appearances at the Boleyn Ground that
he is best remembered for - notably the ludicrous dismissals of West Ham's
Carlton Cole and Everton's Darren Gibson in a Premier League meeting back in
December 2012.
Taylor was also jeered off the field by the Boleyn faithful in April 2014,
following his performance in a 2-1 home defeat against Liverpool - a game in
which he awarded two incredibly weak penalties to the visitors. Last season
his tally of 115 yellow cards was only beaten by Mike Dean and Martin
Atkinson. And since being appointed by the PGMOL five years ago, he had
averaged one red card every five games.

West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan has warned off rival clubs interested in
signing rising star Manuel Lanzini. There have been reports of Liverpool
weighing up a move for the Argentina midfielder following an impressive
start to life in the Premier League. Lanzini has scored four goals this
season, including one against the Reds in West Ham's 3-0 win at Anfield in
August. The 22-year-old moved to Upton Park in the summer on a season-long
loan from United Arab Emirates side Al Jazira, and Sullivan insists his club
have the conditions in place in the contract to sign him permanently. "I
know there have been some reports in the media over the weekend surrounding
the future of Manuel Lanzini," Sullivan told the club's website.
"We have an unbreakable option with both Lanzini and his club, so any other
team's interest is irrelevant. "Manuel has been a fantastic signing for the
club and we all hope he can maintain this superb run of form for the rest of
the season." Sullivan also confirmed forward Enner Valencia will be out
until early January with the ankle injury he suffered against Everton on
November 7.

Amid reports that the vultures are already beginning to circle for Manuel
Lanzini, the Chairman has taken evasive action to ward off any would-be
suitors.
Envious glances are to be expected considering the little Argentine's start
to the season; displays full of industry, guile, stamina, quality and
technique, not to mention 5 goals and 2 assists, will have left many a
recruitment department scratching their heads as to how this little jewel
went unnoticed.
Mr Sullivan has acted promptly and resolutely to nip these rumours in the
bud. Indeed, this is a stance we have seen before, when star performers such
as Tomkins and Kouyate were linked with moves away from E13.
On previous occasions, Mr Sullivan's fighting talk reflected the Club's
position of strength. After all, the players were under contract, playing
regularly, earning decent salaries and about to move to a world-class new
stadium. Further, the Club's finances and marketability have never been
stronger; frankly there is no need to sell.
But, Manuel Lanzini is not a player 'under contract'. Or, if he is, a number
of high profile examples would suggest that our 'right-to-buy' clause is not
worth the paper it's written on.
The previous summer's events involving Toby Alderweireld's switch to Spurs
are a case in point. As you will recall, the defender had previously been on
loan at Southampton. A clause in their contract with parent club Athletico
Madrid allowed the Saints to sign the defender permanently for £6.8million
at the end of the loan deal. There were murmurs in the press that Atleti
could pay £1.5m to cancel the buy-out clause, but missed the deadline to do
so. What followed was a period of ambiguity, where what once seemed a cast
iron, legal entitlement to the player became increasingly watered down.
Presumably, the St Mary's club reached some sort of financial settlement
with the 2014 Champions League finalists, but the net result (and the one
that mattered) was that Alderweireld ended up plying his trade at White Hart
Lane.
Another worrying example is that of Mohammed Salah. When opportunities at
Chelsea became limited, the winger went out on loan in search of regular
first-team action. In the January transfer window, Salah joined Fiorentina
on an 18-month loan deal, for a reported fee of £700,000. After an excellent
second half to the campaign, Salah took a well-deserved summer break. But,
Salah never reported back for pre-season training in Florence. Instead, he
joined Serie A rivals Roma for the 2015/16 season. The Viola were incensed;
they waved their contract around and demanded that Salah re-join them. They
even suggested that Chelsea would have to replace Salah with an alternative
member of their expensively assembled squad. But, such demands were never
met.
These 2 contracts have clearly been breached. The Alderweireld agreement
contained a conditional clause; a certain event needed to occur in order to
trigger the clause. Such clauses are commonplace in commercial deals, as we
saw when Arouna Kone recently triggered a 12-month extension to his deal
(and bagged a hattrick to boot) against Big Sam's beleaguered Black Cats.
The requisite trigger in Alderweireld's case was the conclusion of the
season, coupled with the Saints retaining and actioning an interest in the
player. Those conditions were met, but the Saints failed to land their man.
The Salah 'Italian Job' is even more outrageous, for here was a player who
was 'under contract' in every sense of the word. Nevertheless, 'cash is
king' and both the parent clubs successfully managed to navigate or
circumvent their contracts so as to flog their assets for a better return
elsewhere.
Players are assets in a volatile environment. Their values can soar or
plummet in equal measure. Option-to-buy clauses are implemented by parent
clubs seeking to protect themselves against the risk of depreciation during
a lean loan spell. This logic was sensibly applied by Manchester City in the
deal which took Alvaro Negredo to Valencia; after an injury plagued first
season at the Mestella, his value would have dramatically decreased, but
City had already locked in the price. They didn't let Valencia have their
cake and eat it – a risk-free loan is becoming increasingly uncommon in an
era of soaring transfer fees – and the contract was followed to the letter.
On the other hand, when a player's performance exceeds expectation, his
current value will invariably outweigh the previously agreed buy-out price.
This then generates a margin to be bargained with. Whilst the parent club is
fully aware of their contractual obligations, they know that, if they
stretch that margin by selling the player to the highest bidder, this will
offset any repercussions of breaching the contract.
The Alderweireld and Salah deals have set a dangerous precedent as to how
'right to buy' clauses will play out in future. They cast considerable doubt
on Mr Sullivan's claims that such provisions are 'unbreakable'. If Lanzini's
performances continue to attract acclaim, we may well have a fight on our
hands to exercise our option, realise our investment and, ultimately, hold
onto our prized asset.

Hammers reveal Ogbonna's future

Suggestions that Angelo Ogbonna may be loaned out in January has been firmly
ruled out by West Ham. A claim in the Italian media that Fiorentina are set
to move in for the £8 million signing from Juventus appeared yesterday. And
former Irons employee Gianluca Nani said: "It can happen if he cannot
immerse himself in this world [English football]. A return to Italy in
January is strong."
Nani worked at West Ham under Zola between 2008 and 2010 as technical
director and had responsibility for the academy, scouting,transfers and for
the training ground department. He was dismissed when David Gold and David
Sullivan took over the club and although it's well known Ogbonna is
recovering from injury Nani has suggested the central defender has not
adapted to English football or life in this country. But a highly placed
source inside the club told ClaretandHugh tonight: "There's zero chance of
Angelo being loaned anywhere in January. He's been unlucky with injuries,
so we haven't seen the best of him, but he's a key member of our squad and
hopefully will be playing in the first team soon."

West Ham's clash with Tottenham on Super Sunday evokes happy memories for
Ravel Morrison. Here, we consider how the former Manchester United prodigy
is faring at Lazio and wonder what's next for a player still waiting to
unlock his huge potential… Two years ago at White Hart Lane, Ravel
Morrison's brilliant solo goal sealed a memorable 3-0 win for West Ham
against their London rivals, with Sam Allardyce describing his 50-yard
dribble and audacious dinked finish as "genius" in his post-match press
conference. "You will struggle to see a better goal this season," added the
former Hammers manager, and he wasn't alone in praising the talented
midfielder. Morrison appeared to be coming of age after a troubled start to
his career at Manchester United. He was in the form of his life, and his
thrilling performances for West Ham and England U21s had put him in
contention for a place in Roy Hodgson's World Cup squad. A few months later,
Morrison had lost his place in West Ham's starting line-up and any hopes of
making the plane to Brazil had evaporated amid reports of a falling out with
Allardyce. Perhaps the expectations had been unrealistic, but Morrison's
natural talent has been a source of excitement since his formative years at
United, where his grace in possession and ability to glide past opponents
set him apart from an early age.
After that tantalising glimpse of Morrison's quality at West Ham, another
roadblock in his career felt reminiscent of his departure from Old Trafford
in 2012. "He possessed as much natural talent as any youngster we ever
signed," Sir Alex Ferguson wrote in his new book Leading. "It was very
painful to sell him to West Ham in 2012 because he could have been a
fantastic player. But, over a period of years, the problems off the pitch
continued to escalate and we had little option but to cut the cord."
Much to the disappointment of many West Ham fans, there was no way back for
Morrison under Allardyce, either. There were flickers of class when he
scored six goals in 17 appearances on loan at QPR in 2014, but he lost his
place in the side as they navigated the Championship play-offs. An
unsuccessful stint at Cardiff was then cut short in January of this year,
and his contract at West Ham was terminated shortly afterwards.
Morrison agreed a deal with Lazio and began the latest chapter of his career
in Italy this season. It was a brave and unexpected move, and it appeared to
get off to a good start when a string of eye-catching performances in
pre-season immediately endeared him to Lazio supporters. In Rome, the
22-year-old has evoked memories of Paul Gascoigne, another maverick English
talent who became a cult figure at the club in the early 90s.
But while Morrison was an instant hit with the fans, he has found it
difficult to replicate his pre-season form consistently on the pitch. After
four substitute appearances, he was handed his first start in a 2-0 win away
to Rosenborg in the Europa League two weeks ago, but manager Stefano Pioli
has raised questions of his attitude and in September he said "he still
doesn't speak a word of Italian".
Sources in Italy say Morrison has already been guilty of missing training
sessions, and he appears to be near the bottom of Pioli's midfield pecking
order. But while his relationship with the manager is somewhat strained,
sporting director Igli Tare is determined for him to succeed at the club.
"Ravel Morrison is one of those classic footballers who is a bit eccentric,"
Tare told Sky Sports in Italy last month. "Without doubt he's an outstanding
player because he's got some great moves. People like him need time, but his
time will come."
Morrison has struggled to integrate with his new team-mates and spends most
of his time with his entourage. He sparked speculation over his future by
tweeting "January…" last month, but there have been encouraging signs too.
He is taking an intense Italian language course, he has struck up a
friendship with young winger Keita Balde, and his first start against
Rosenborg suggests he could get more opportunities. Morrison is just 22, but
the next few weeks could be key to his future. It's difficult to imagine him
staying at Lazio in January unless he gets more playing time, but it appears
he has work to do to earn Pioli's trust. West Ham would dearly love that
"genius" of two years ago in their side at White Hart Lane on Sunday, but
Morrison can't afford to dwell on the past. Right now, he faces a fight to
ensure his Italian adventure doesn't follow a familiar pattern.

The worst thing that could have happened was for Dimitri Payet to be out for
three months! Running it a close second – for this weekend anyway – is the
news that ref Anthony Taylor will be in charge of the Spurs/Irons game.
Taylor is no friend to the Hammers and has been widely condemned as being as
'bad as it gets" after some appallingly bad appearances notably the sendings
off of Carlton Cole and Everton's Darren Gibson in December 2012.
Taylor has 38 yellow cards and handing our one red – yes you've remembered
-, to West Ham's Adrian in the 2-1 home defeat against Leicester for
'dangerous play'. It's hard to remember a half decent appearance by the
Manchester based official who gave Liverpool a couple of soft spot kicks on
a previous occasion. The week just got worse.

OS revenue will not bridge that Spurs gap

Although our move to Olympic Stadium will bring increases in ticket, retail
and sponsorship it will still not allow the Irons to bridge the financial
gap with Spurs. The Hammers heavy discounting on the first season at the
Olympic Stadium on season tickets, together with half the number of
corporate seats compared to other London, means the increase in revenue will
be between £10-£15m per season. And speaking exclusively to Claret and Hugh
to a senior club insider previously told us: ""Our (increase in turnover)
will be £10m-15m as we have kept prices low at the OS. "There might be more
from retail and sponsorship. My figures relates JUST to tickets and
hospitality. Arsenal have 7,000 corporate, we have limited to 3,600 to make
lots of good seats available for ordinary (ie non corporate) supporters."
It is hoped that a further £15m turnover could be increased in retail and
sponsorship opportunities at the new Stadium but that might that time to
achieve. Based on 2014 released financial accounts Spurs has a turnover of
£181m compared to West Ham who had a turnover of nearly £121m in 2015 so a
£15m hike from moving the Olympic Stadium would still leave us £30m adrift
of Spurs if we increased turnover by £30m from the move. We will be between
£170m and £300m behind the top four. Manchester United have a turnover of
£433m, Man City £347m, Chelsea £324m, Arsenal £304m, Liverpool £256m based
on 2014 figures.
Catching up with Spurs in financial terms will also be a moving target as
they will undoubtedly generate further revenue from their move to their new
stadium which they will own. However, in the short term they will saddled
with increased debt to pay around £400m to build their new stadium. They are
likely to face years of austerity in the same way Arsenal faced years of
reduced spending after they built the Emirates stadium.
West Ham's turnover is currently 9th in the Premier League Everton £121m and
Newcastle £130m which are all above us in terms of financial power. All
Premier League clubs will benefit from a new TV deal next season adding tens
of millions to every club's turnover but the top club will benefit more –
making the gulf even larger.

Ogbonna rumour claim that he is not settled

Italy press claim Fiorentina is hoping to sign Hammer Angelo Ogbonna on
loan in the January transfer window, and Gianluca Nani says "It can happen
if he cannot immerse himself in this world [English football]. A return to
Italy in January is strong."

Irons linked with versatile French defender

The Hammers are interested in signing Lille's teenage defender Benjamin
Pavard according to French website Mercato 365. The 19-year-old has come up
through the Lille youth system after joining the French club at the age of
just nine. Pavard has now broken through to the Lille first-team, making
five league appearances so far this season. Pavard is versatile, capable of
playing all across the back four, having featured at left back, centre back
and right back for Lille during his short career so far. The versatile
defender who can cover in a number of positions might interest West Ham
considering the contracts of James Collins and Joey O'Brien expire next
summer. Pavard may not be the finished article just yet, but he appears to
have lots of potential. He is part of the French Under 21 team and a number
of Premier League scouts were present when the France U21 team beat Northern
Ireland U21 1-0 last Thursday in the Euro qualifiers.

West Ham are the Premier League's second most effective club in front of
goal. Fantasy football game www.oulala.com have released the shots to goals
ratios of every Premier League club so far this season. Leading the way are
Leicester City who have been the most efficient team in front of goal thanks
to the form of attacking duo Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez.
Vardy's 12 goals have come from 48 shots giving the 28-year-old a conversion
rate of 25 per cent while Mahrez has enjoyed a conversion rate of 21 per
cent, scoring seven goals from 34 shots.
The Irons are a mere 0.1 per cent behind with a shot conversion of 14.2 per
cent. Manchester City and Arsenal have had the most shots in the Premier
League this season with 221 attempts each. However the pair can only manage

Hammers hero considers the Carroll dilemma

Hammers hero Tony Cottee can't see Andy Carroll pushing his way past Diafra
Sakho to again become the club's Number One striker. But he hopes that this
won't deter the club's record signing from pursuing his career with the
Hammers. tough though that may be for him. Speaking exclusively to
ClaretandHugh Cottee said: "I like Andy a lot but if we're honest Sakho has
been amazing and genuinely looks our No 1 striker and with the style we are
now playing to playing he is key. "I tend to agree with the view that Andy
is going to find it difficult to become the regular starter when Sakho is
fit and it will be in his own hands how he receives that situation. "He may
feel that isn't enough for him – we will have to wait and see in the summer.
It's never easy to read what may be in a player's mind."
Regular stories that AC is a target for Newcastle continue to emerge but
Carroll's life is centred on the south. And that my help him decide that he
is better off with a hugely ambitious club on its way to the next level at

Hammers have big edge over Spurs

West Ham hold one big advantage over Spurs at the weekend following the
disappearnce of 64 per cent of their squad to international duty. And that
gives the Irons a big edge as the two managers attempt to get their game
plan in place for a massive White Hart Lane clash. Only 20 per cent of our
squad has been called away to join their national squads. "Those that are
fit will arrive perhaps tired from games and air travel so I have to fancy
the Irons despite the absence of out star man Dimitri Payet. ClaretandHugh's
top analyst Leroy Rosenior declared: "Any edge you can get before a game
like this is important and things look very much in our favour. "The Spurs
boss will have been unable to prepare properly with so many away. He has no
idea who will be fit and whether players will come back injured. Slaven
Bilic,on the other hand, knows exactly where he is and although the Payet
and Valencia injuries are very bad news he will have been able to sort out
his game plan and work on it for several days.

Manuel Lanzini has a buy-out clause of £5.5million. The Argentinian is
currently on a season-long spell with the Hammers and has hit the ground
running in the Premier League. The 22-year-old has four goals in 13
appearances and has been attracting attention from Liverpool, according to
reports. Bleacher Report claim Jurgen Klopp is keeping tabs on the
midfielder, asking for regular updates on his position at Upton Park.
However, West Ham co-owner Sullivan has quashed the rumours, calling them
'irrelevant' due to the east London club's deal. He has confirmed the
Hammers have the first option to sign Lanzini at the end of the season,
regardless of other club's interest. "We have an unbreakable option with
both Lanzini and his club, so any other team's interest is irrelevant," he
said. "Manuel has been a fantastic signing for the club and we all hope he
can maintain this superb run of form for the rest of the season."
The midfielder is understood to have a £5.5million buyout clause in his
current contract with parent club Al Jazira.

Are West Ham relying too heavily on this star's fitness? (not Payet)

That is two games that we have played without Sakho since he has been
injured, and on both occasions we have not been able to pick up three
points. Do we rely too heavily on Sakho and are our alternative choices not
good enough?
Diafra Sakho has had a different season compared to last, but both equally
as successful. This year Sakho has been working 10 times harder on the pitch
and is doing more work for the team, but in return is scoring less goals.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing as we have the likes of Lanzini who's
scoring and Payet (although now injured) who can step up to the mark and
provide the team with goals. We look completely different with Sakho up top
compared to the likes of Carroll as I feel they are two different players.
Sakho hounds defenses and presses them excellently, not allowing them time
on the ball, which in return gives our defence an easier task and it is
easier to regain possession we do not have.
Andy Carroll, as we have seen from the previous two games, isn't as
physically capable as Diafra is to press the ball for that long in a match
and I feel our play alternates because of this.
I am still very happy with the choices we have up front, don't get me wrong,
with the likes of Carroll, Valencia and Zarate , but I am not convinced that
any can do as well as Sakho can in that lone striker role. I feel like we
have missed Diafra massively these past couple of games and I am hoping that
he will be fit to face Spurs this coming Sunday, especially with star man
Dimitri Payet out for the next three months.
Personally, I do not think that we need to sign another striker in January
unless Sakho gets a long term injury. However, if Sakho is fit at the time
then I do not see any reason as to why we would need another striker as our
alternate choices currently can provide the team with goals, maybe not do as
much for the team but can still slot them home. If Diafra was to get a long
term injury, which hopefully he doesn't, I would look to bring someone in
who has similar qualities and will work just as hard for the team. A name
that springs to mind, who has been flying around twitter recently is highly
praised Doumbia, currently on loan at CSKA Moscow. He could get recalled
early by Roma if we show interest and pay the right amount, but I think he
would be a great fit and definitely scores goals.
Whether he would find it difficult coming to the Premier League half way
through the season is another question for another day but he would be my
signing if Sakho were to be ruled out at some point. However, currently I am
happy with our squad and we have strength in depth which is impacting on
individual performances all across the team. We remain hopeful that Sakho
will be fit for Sunday's game against Spurs and it is one all the fans are
looking forward to.
