Nikola Jurcevic says West Ham United playmakers Dimitri Payet and Manuel
Lanzini remind him of Croatia legends Zvonimir Boban and Robert Prosinecki.
The Hammers assistant manager – and manager Slaven Bilic – played alongside
attacking midfielders Boban and Prosinecki at Euro 96, where the Blazers
reached the quarter-finals and impressed hugely with their flair and
creativity. Boban spent eleven seasons with AC Milan, winning four Serie A
titles and the UEFA Champions League, while Prosinecki played for Real
Madrid and Barcelona and won six league titles with Red Star Belgrade and
Dinamo Zagreb. Twenty years later and Jurcevic can see a lot of his former
teammates – as well as current Croatia stars Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic –
in Payet and Lanzini, who have played a huge part in firing West Ham into
the Barclays Premier League's top four. "Sometimes when I have spoken with
Slaven or when I talk with my friends, I make some comparisons with players
from before like Boban or Prosinecki, or for example players now like Modric
and Rakitic," he told West Ham TV. "We also have those type of players in
Payet and Lanzini."

While the attacking duo have caught the eye during the Hammers' bright start
to the 2015/16 campaign, Jurcevic added that it has been a full squad effort
to climb into third place after ten league matches. "Sometimes we spoke
about one or two players, but we must speak also about more players, because
sometimes in the game we make some fantastic shots through Zarate, for
example, who scored an important goal on Saturday," he continued. "I think
now we have a good situation in the team because we have some players who
are more for defending like Collins or Tomkins, or we have team players like
Jenkinson or Cresswell, or midfielders like Mark Noble and Kouyate who are
really important for our team. "OK, I understand in every team, everybody
speaks more about players who are more offensive or more creative, but I
think everything our team has done until now is for all the players."

Akinola makes Boleyn Ground bow

Central defender Olatunji Akinola is confident his side can bounce back from
the 2-0 defeat to Fulham when the Dev Squad travel to play Brighton & Hove
Albion next Monday. The 16-year-old put in an assured performance against
the Cottagers, in his first U21 appearance of the season – coincidentally
against the same team he made his U21's debut against last term. Despite a
promising showing from the young Hammers, it was the visitors who came away
with the points: "The positives are the way we passed the ball around, we
need to do that more consistently and switching the play often. We need to
try and be a bit more creative because I know we are capable of beating
anyone when we play to our best. "Overall, it was a disappointing result
especially as we played well in the first half. We must have dominated the
game in terms of passes but we didn't have enough creativity in the final
third and we didn't have many opportunities from the crosses we put in."

Jordan Evans' swirling free kick beat Raphael Spiegel from distance to break
the deadlock before Dean O'Halloran rolled the ball home to double their
advantage. Grady Diangana came closest to scoring for the hosts, yet they
could not find a way past Fulham goalkeeper Marek Rodak. Akinola
continued: "It's disappointing to have conceded twice from only a few shots
on goal. We felt pretty solid at the back, they didn't have too much of a
threat but they took the chances they did have. "It's my first U21
appearance of the season and it's clearly a step up from the U18s who have
been playing recently. I think I've coped with the step up well, on the ball
I feel my distribution was good but I think I need to be more solid in the
air against the older boys. Overall I think I did alright."

While the result was disappointing, it was no doubt a special night for the
highly rated academy prospect. Reflecting on his Boleyn Ground bow, he said:
"It's my first game here at the Boleyn Ground so it was a good experience, I
think tonight's crowd was the biggest I've played in front of in my career.
"You've got to concentrate all the time because you've got a lot of people
watching you; it's also more realistic to what first team football is like.
"As for the rest of the season, the U18s are doing well at the moment so I
hope that continues. Hopefully I'll be ready whenever I'm called upon for
the U21s and keep knocking on the door."

Dyer - All you need is Slav

West Ham fan Danny Dyer was thrilled to be back at the Boleyn Ground on
Saturday and hopes the Club can achieve big things under the leadership of
Slaven Bilic this season. The Eastenders Star has already been to the
Bournemouth and Newcastle matches this season and is hoping to attend as
many games as possible in the final ever season at Upton Park. Dyer says he
will be full of emotion as the Hammers prepare to play their final ever
league game against Swansea on May 7. But the famous actor is also looking
forward to seeing the Club make a big move into the new Stadium next summer
and sees no reason why they cannot compete with the big guns in England.
Dyer said: "I am gutted that we are leaving the Boleyn and there are a lot
of memories for me as I have been coming here since I was a kid. "But we
have got to look at the bigger picture and we are going to have one of the
best grounds in the league. We need to move forward and hopefully we can
attract bigger players. "I want to experience Champions League football. It
is our time and we are due it. "We have a strong team this season and why
shouldn't we be dreaming about a top four finish. Why can't we be treated to
a bit of glory? "I started coming over with my old man during the 1985/86
season and seeing the great partnership between McAvennie and Cottee. "I am
a Custom House boy and I can still remember the walk to the ground and the
smell of the burgers as you got nearer. I am a true believer in that your
club chooses you. "We have got the Bilic on the scene now. All you need is
Slav!!"
Dyer has also joined the big fan club behind Dimitri Payet and feels he is
already following in the footsteps of fans favourite Paolo Di Canio. Payet
has wasted no time settling into his new surroundings and has been one of
the star performers in the opening ten games of the season. Dyer added:
"Payet is a beautiful man. He pulls the it off well. He is a like a Di Canio
player and gets you off your seat."

One booking, but West Ham charged by FA - again

West Ham have been charged once again by the FA for failing to control their
players. Following on from the £50,000 fine incurred following Mark Noble's
dismissal at Anfield back in August - a decision that was later overturned
upon appeal - the Hammers have been charged again in the wake of Saturday's
win over Chelsea. According to a statement on the FA's website, "West Ham
have been charged for failing to control their players in the 44th minute of
the game and Chelsea have also been charged with the same offence for an
alleged breach in the 45th minute of the game."

Video footage of the incident, a still from which may be seen below shows
three West Ham players - captain Mark Noble, Carl Jenkinson and James
Tomkins - along with Chelsea's John Terry and Cesc Fabregas talking to
referee Jonathan Moss following the foul. West Ham had one player booked
during the game - Cheikhou Kouyate - whilst the Blues saw SIX players
cautioned, including Diego Costa and Fabegas for their part in the fracas
that followed Matic's red card. Both clubs have until 6pm on Thursday, 29
October to reply to the charges.

It wasn't just Chelsea's coaching staff and players showing a distinct lack
of class on Saturday, according to a story in the tabloids this morning.
Andy Carroll, who went straight to Canary Wharf after the game in order to
celebrate West Ham's win was accosted by a group of drunk Chelsea supporters
at the Roka restaurant shortly after arriving. Eye-witness Paige Waller, who
was in the popular eating venue said: "Andy Carroll and a random drunk man
just had a huge row in Roka. Made my day. So dramatic; red wine was flying
everywhere." Meanwhile another individual who claimed to be present at the
time told The Sun: "A man, who was in a group of Chelsea fans, tried to go
up and kiss him which led to a skirmish. Carroll hadn't even had food or a
drink at that point when the hammered geezer started giving him shit."
Carroll scored West Ham's winning goal just ten minutes after being
introduced as a replacement for Mauro Zarate, who had given the Irons a
first half lead that was subsequently cancelled out by Gary Cahill. Hammers
boss Slaven Bilic insisted after the game that the number nine should be
seriously considered for a recall by England manager Roy Hodgson, who was
present at Saturday's match. "Andy is a big player for us, and also for
England," he said during his post-match press conference. "He gives us a lot
of options. He is a great player, his quality has never been in doubt. We
just needed to get him fit. "Now we are in a really good situation with that
and he should be fit long-term. West Ham - and possibly England - should
benefit."

Hammers will have to let defender go!

West Ham won't be signing Carl Jenkinson permanently next season as Arsenal
are looking for an incredible £15 million fee! The Hammers wanted to sign
him in the summer but the player instead opted to sign a new five year deal
at the Emirates. And once that was agreed, Arsene Wenger told the Hammers
owners that the right back would cost them £15 million if they wanted to
take him to Upton Park . Instead David Sullivan and David Gold agreed
another loan deal which will cost the Hammers a whopping £4 mllion for the
season in wages and appearance bonuses. ClaretandHugh has learned the terms
of the deal and Jenkinson certainly hasn't come cheap with loan fee, basic
wages and various bonuses to both Arsenal and the player. We are paying
Arsenal a £1.5m loan fee plus £10,000 for every starting appearance whilst
the Harlow-born 23 year old picks up £5k for every start. Sunderland had
offered Arsenal a £2m loan fee, but Jenkinson had been so happy at the
Boleyn last season that he insisted he returned to the east end. However,
Arsenal have no intention of letting the player move on for anything less
than £15 million and the Hammers will not be playing at that price. Our
source explained: "He's a decent player but we don't see him as a £15
million player. We can't go there and Arsenal won't budge so it's extremely
unlikely he'll be here next season."

Irons make their FA appeal decision

West Ham will appeal the Football Association's decision to charge them with
failing to control their players during Saturday's match against Chelsea.
The game's ruling body West Ham brought the charge after the players reacted
to in the 44th minute of the game following the incident which saw Chelsea's
Matic sent off. Chelsea were charged with the same offence for an alleged
breach in the 45th minute of the game. A club source made it clear this
evening that the appeal was almost being lodged on appoint of principle
claiming it was always hard to win and appeal with the FA. He said:
"Everybody in the club believes we have a very strong case but very few win
in these circumstances. However, let's be fair, not one of our players even
received a card. "We were fined £50k the last time we were found guilty so
if we lose we're likely to get hit with around £75k this time."

Zarate: "We want the top four!"

Mauro Zarate has made it clear the Irons are aiming to finish in the top
four but accepts as a ealist that it will be very difficult indeed.
ClaretandHugh revealed yesterday how determined the Argentine striker is to
stick around at the club and in n interview today he sounds like one very
happy bunny who aims to be around for a while yet. Speaking to ESPN FC he
says: "We can't dream about winning the title, we must be realistic. We want
to finish the championship being as high as possible in the table. "At the
moment we are in the third position and what we want to is to finish among
the first four but it's a very difficult task." He added: "Everyone at the
club is very excited, and our fans are like crazy. We are playing very nice
football and we expect to keep on doing it this way. "We have to be aware of
not losing points at home, most of all when we play against those teams that
are fighting to avoid the relegation zone. If we want to be among the first
teams in the positions, we can't lose points at home."

Gold reveals his likely retirement age!

He's 79 years old, remains a central part of this football club and has been
a club owner for 25 years! So just when is David Gold going to retire and
how does he answer the constant snipes from the keyboard warriors that he's
only in it for the dough! He showed his passion in that extraordinary
picture when entering a director's box seventh heaven when Andy Carroll
scored at the weekend against Chelsea. And now in the ClaretandHugh

mentioned his likely retiremeent age. He explains: "We have two families
here – the Gold family and the Sullivan family. It's two families and every
member of those families are passionate about our football club. "They –
every member of the families – recognise that their Dads have shown their
own passion for this club and they respect everything their fathers are and
have tried to achieve. "We are pretty good at what we do and we both have
regular medical check ups. I would be very disappointed if I wasn't here
and involved in 10 years time. "You may ask what a man of 90 does with his
time – well probably by them I will be ready to retire!"

Song keeps fingers crossed

Alex Song is still hopeful he can make the Irons squad for the weekend game
at Watford. The midfielder is back in training with the first team squad
this week and although the Everton game was the original target for his
comeback, there is a small chance he could make the squad for the weekend.
Sources inside the club have told ClaretandHugh that there's an outside
chance and that it's an issue of regaining match fitness rather than
overcoming the injury problem itself. We were told: "Everton was indeed the
target but he's looking good and there's a chance – it's no more than that
but he's working well." The manager's other big decision will be making a
choice between Saturday's first scorer Mauro Zarate or Victor Moses with the
loan signing looking likely to get the shout. Winston Reid is also rated
50/50 for the game and is slowly shaking off the hip/thigh injury that
sidelined him from the Chelsea match.

Irons take Henry by surprise

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is the latest player to refuse ruling out West
Ham as top four contenders. Not unnaturally he believes the Gunners can win
the title and that they and the two Manchester teams are set to battle it
out at the top. But he has encouraging words for the Irons hordes who are
watching the lads rub shoulders with the Premier League elite. And he said:
"You always have one team that is trying to make the top four and thinking
why not push and fight for the title. "Every weekend I think: 'Today will be
a bit too much for West Ham,' but every week they win the game! "You never
know what can happen but I think United, City and Arsenal will be in the top
three at the end of the season with a surprise team in the top four or
Chelsea coming back at the end."

West Ham striker Andy Carroll was allegedly involved in a row with a "drunk
Chelsea fan" at a trendy Japanese restaurant in Canary Wharf, London, on
Sunday evening. The 26-year-old scored a brilliant header to hand the
Hammers a 2-1 win at Upton Park.
On Sunday night the former England striker was dining with friends at Roka
when a row ensued during which his security guards had to intervene. Some
reports suggest that wine was thrown, based on a Tweet by onlooker Paige
Waller - although she later cleared up that her words were not to be taken
literally. An unnamed onlooker told The Sun: "A man, who was in a group of
Chelsea fans, tried to go up and kiss him, which led to a skirmish. "Carroll
hadn't even had food or a drink at that point when the hammered geezer
started giving him s***." An anonymous member of staff also spoke to the
paper, confirming the incident. "It happened between 5pm and 5.30pm as they
were sitting down to eat," they said. "His personal security guards broke up
the fight."

West Ham transfer report: Hammers set to miss out on Inter Milan defender

Fiorentina are lining up a New Year move for West Ham target Danilo
D'Ambrosio. The 27-year-old full-back was on Slaven Bilic's radar in the
summer but he eventually stayed put at Inter Milan. However, D'Ambrosio, who
only arrived from Torino in 2014, is yet to feature in the league this
season and he looks set to leave when the transfer window opens. The Hammers
have been linked with a fresh move for the 27-year-old but now reports in
Italy have suggested that Fiorentina are the new front-runners to land him.
La Viola are hopeful of sealing a loan deal until next summer, when they
will have the option to purchase D'Ambrosio, who is under contract at the
San Siro until 2018.

James Collins believes West Ham United are better equipped this season to
maintain their exceptional Barclays Premier League start. Saturday's 2-1 win
over champions Chelsea leaves West Ham sitting pretty in third with 20
points, a record Premier League points haul for the Hammers after ten
outings. And while Collins and co are keeping their feet firmly on the
ground, the Wales centre-half insists the squad's strength in depth is
reason enough to feel that Slaven Bilic's side can stay the course this
time. He told whufc.com: "We have got the squad to do it. That's the major
thing. We've got competition for places in every position. "We struggled
with a couple of injuries last year, which knocked us off track. But the
squad this year has been improved so much that if we're there, or there
abouts, around Christmas, there's no reason why we can't sustain that and
finish there. "Last year, a lot of the lads, me included, hadn't been in
that position before. The expectation was so high. No disrespect, but in
years gone by we'd been looking the other way. "But we've signed top-quality
international footballers, who are used to playing under this sort of
pressure that you get at Upton Park."

Saturday's three points came courtesy of big Andy Carroll's towering header,
his first goal since January. The No9's late winner was the culmination of
months and months of toil on and off the training pitch, and Collins says
the big man is every defender's worst nightmare. "Any team in the Premier
League would be delighted to have Andy Carroll on the bench," he added.
"He's still a young lad but his dedication to getting fit and staying strong
has been unbelievable. "He's been spot on in training, he's worked hard and
we're reaping the rewards of his hard work. He came on and he was fantastic
again. "If I was on the defending team and Andy Carroll was coming on, I
wouldn't be too happy about it because you know what's going to happen. He's
big and he's strong. "If you play the right ball to him I think he's
unplayable at what he does. He's so good in the air that sometimes it's
impossible to get the ball off him. I see it in training, so for him to
score the winner in such a big game, I'm delighted for him."

Unbeaten in seven league outings, with five wins and two draws, the Hammers
are on the crest of a wave and the 32-year-old insists the feel-good factor
is as good as it has ever been in his time at the Club. He continued: "We're
flying at the minute. The away win at Palace last week was a good building
block for us. We took a lot of confidence from it and obviously knew it was
going to be tough on Saturday, but I thought we were fantastic again.
"Confidence is massive at the Club at the moment. Training's bang on, the
banter in the dressing room is the best I've known it. We look forward to
training every day and we're on fire at the minute."

Slaven Bilic insisted no one inside West Ham United is getting carried away
with his side's fantastic start to the season. The Croatian has more than
proved his credentials as the Hammers have taken the Premier League by
storm. Following deserved wins over Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City,
the Irons added champions Chelsea to their list of high profile scalps, with
a 2-1 victory last Saturday. Reflecting on their remarkable start, Bilic
maintained that his side could not afford to allow their performance levels
to drop ahead of the trip to Watford: "We are only a quarter of the way
through the season. To be honest, I don't even think about football like
that. One quarter, so what? All we want to do is concentrate on the next
game. "If we drop (our level of performance), by even 5% then we are in
trouble. We have to be in what I call the red zone all the time, we can
never be in the comfort zone, and it can take ages to get out of it. So we
can never be carried away. "Only when it is five games to the end of the
season or so that we can concentrate on the league positions."

While Bilic is acutely aware of the long season ahead, his team are now six
league games unbeaten and he stressed the amount of confidence this run has
been generated. "Of all the wins, after the Crystal Palace game I was the
happiest. The win over Chelsea is a bit different because it was at home,
against the Champions. "There is nothing wrong in gaining the confidence
from winning. We still have to be ready for every game, and make sure we
reproduce the same when we play Watford. If we can maintain it, every game,
then we have a chance against anyone.
"We have the momentum, which is important, it comes out of good training,
good players, good system and individual class but it can also disappear in
a moment."

Reece Burke played the full game as Bradford City came from a goal behind to
draw 1-1 with high flying Wigan Athletic. Michael Jacob's notched from long
range before James Hanson's nodded header levelled the proceedings. Matt
Jarvis played the full game as Norwich City slipped to a 1-0 home defeat at
the hands of West Bromwich Albion. Salomon Rondon's strike was enough to
separate the two sides. Young central defender Josh Pask played the full
ninety in Dagenham & Redbridge's 3-1 away defeat to Accrington Stanley.
Seamus Conneely opened the scoring after just 95 seconds and Accrington
doubled their lead with Matty Pearson heading past Liam O'Brien. Josh
Windass to put Stanley 3-0 up, before Nyron Nosworthy scored a consolation
for Dagenham.
Diego Poyet played 79 minutes of MK Dons' 3-0 defeat away at Queens Park
Rangers. The R's scored three goals in the last 20 minutes with strikes fro
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Matt Phillips and Junior Hoilett. Jordan Brown played
the full game for Chelmsford City in their 0-0 draw with Ebbsfleet United.

Kouyate - Carroll deserves success

Cheikhou Kouyate was full of praise for Andy Carroll after he scored the
winning goal against Chelsea and feels he has been rewarded for all the hard
work he has put in over the last few months. Carroll was a regular at the
Club's training ground throughout the close season, even when most of his
team-mates were enjoying their summer holidays and has now enjoyed a full
pre-season. The West Ham United striker came off the bench on Saturday with
just over 20 minutes left on the clock and the England forward had a moment
to remember when he rose the highest to meet a cross from Aaron Cresswell
and direct a powerful header past Asmir Begovic into the corner of the net
to hand the Hammers a 2-1 victory over the Premier League champions. Kouyate
was one of the first to celebrate with Carroll and hopes there are plenty
more goals to come from the talented striker over the coming weeks and
months.

Kouyate said: "I am very happy for Andy. He is a nice guy and has worked so
hard to get back to full fitness. "He wanted to score and it was an
unbelievable goal against Chelsea. "It is great that we are third in the
league. We just need to take it game by game and then see where it takes us.
"I am happy with my form and to play so well against Chelsea. But it is
about the whole team and everyone played well from Adrian through to Sakho.
"Andy Carroll has come on and done well. It is about all the players and we
are one team. We need to carry on this good form and stay positive. "The
start has been very good for all the players. The staff have worked very
hard and all the players have enjoyed a good start to the season."

Academy manager Terry Westley described his disappointment as the young
Hammers lost 2-0 at the hands of Fulham under the lights at the Boleyn on
Monday evening. Despite enjoying the majority of possession as well as
chances, the Dev Squad came undone as Jordan Evans rifled home a long-range
free-kick before Dean O'Halloran doubled the Cottagers' lead in the second
half. Reflecting on the game, Westley surmised: "That's probably the most
disappointing I've been with all of our game. We've had 12 corners,
dominated possession and I dread to think how many passes we made, it must
have been well over 500. "We were in their third of the pitch on numerous
occasions, but we never really opened them up. Only when Lewis Page got
round the back and played Grady in and you're thinking – we should've scored
that. When we don't score when we're on top, we look fragile on the counter
attack. "After we went 1-0 down, you can see the doubts creep in and the
belief levels drop. That summed up the game really."

In front of a bumper crowd of just under 2500 fans, the young Hammers could
not quite turn possession into meaningful chances, and when they did, Fulham
goalkeeper Marek Rodak was on hand to save his side. Martin Samuelsen,
Djair Parfitt-Williams and Marcus Browne all showed flashes of promise, yet
the struggled to penetrate the west London sides' back four. Westley
continued: "They had a game plan, got people behind the ball. For them it's
a good result and a good performance. That's what they looked for and that's
what they got for. They scored twice from three or so shots. We didn't have
too many shots ourselves but we were in and around their box a lot.
We lacked a main forward out there tonight, you look at the number of
options we have in the first team. We don't quite have that edge."

While Joey O'Brien made a welcome return to action following his return from
injury, Westley named a young side with the likes of U18 squad members
Olatunji Akinola and George Dobson starting. Despite the defeat, Westley is
confident his charges will learn from the experience: "Hopefully our young
players learned a few lessons today. If you're going to hit a long ball it
needs to have pace on it otherwise it'll get cut out. "The clue is in the
name, Development Squad. They're still developing. But we need to do that
quicker. The demands on this team are getting bigger and bigger. If they
want to make the first team they have to do a little better than we did
tonight."

Up next for the U21s is an away trip to Brighton & Hove Albion who prop up
the Barclays U21 Premier League Division Two. "We have to pick ourselves
up quickly as we have another game, next Monday. We'll come in and assess
what happened, we'll look at the game. "Everyone has worked hard to get a
big crowd in tonight and I don't think we gave the fans enough, we didn't
quite reward them with the victory we wanted."

I have been very impressed with the Club's start to the season. It is a
fantastic achievement, but the manager knows he needs to keep everyone's
feet on the ground and there are no easy games in the Premier League. It is
a great start and more than what we could have hoped for. We have now got to
keep it going. We have had a tough opening ten games but we are only two
points off the top and we could easily be top of the table. We are seven
games unbeaten and why can't we dream of big things this season. We have
four top class central defenders and we have got cover all over the squad.
We have still got Alex Song and Enner Valencia to come back. Andy Carroll is
starting to come back and it was great to see him score the winner against
Chelsea on Saturday. You could argue that he has made an impact in the last
three games that he has come on since the Norwich game. He was involved in
the injury time equaliser that Kouyate scored, he set up the second goal for
Manuel Lanzini against Crystal Palace and got the winner on Saturday. He has
had a huge impact. There is no reason why that cannot continue. We all want
him to do well. He has trained incredibly hard and on his day he can make a
contribution. We want every player at West Ham United to do well. The
manager's problem will be keeping everyone happy but that is a good thing to
have. We don't have to rush anyone back from injury now and this is the
strongest squad we have ever put together. We are very optimistic for the
future. In football we are here to dream. We were in four competitions at
the start of the season, we are left in two and anything is possible.

West Ham United's development squad continued their poor start to the
2015/16 season with defeat at the hands of Championship side Fulham. Terry
Westley's side - with just one win from their opening seven outings prior to
this evening's clash - were comfortably beaten by the Cottagers on a
miserable night at the Boleyn, thanks to a goal either side of the break.
Fulham - managed by Alan Pardew's former number two at West Ham, Peter Grant
- opened the scoring ten minutes ahead of the half time interval via an
impressive 30-yard free kick from Jordan Evans. And whilst it was a
well-struck effort from the left-footed full-back Hammers 'keeper Raphael
Spiegel will no doubt be disappointed at failing to make contact, as the
ball dipped over his head rather than finding either corner. West Ham, for
whom goalscoring opportunities were at a premium on the night fell two goals
behind just eight minutes after the restart despite having begun the second
half the brighter of the two teams.
Indecision in the West Ham defence allowed Republic of Ireland youth
international Dean O'Halloran to surge into the boz and place a shot across
Spiegel into the far corner, despite the best efforts of West Ham's stopper.
The only real bright spark on a miserable night for the Hammers was
Norwegian midfielder Martin Sameulsen, who was a real livewire for Westley's
side throughout the game. The match was watched from the dugout by first
team captain Mark Noble and teenage prodigy Reece Oxford, both of whom spent
time signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans.

Bobby Moore statue defaced following West Ham win

The World Cup winners statue featuring West Ham's holy trinity of Moore,
Peters and Hurst was defaced on Saturday night following United's 2-1 win
over Chelsea. A small tin of sky blue paint was tipped over the base of the
sculpture - officially known as the 'Heroes' or 'Champions or The World Cup'
statue - some time on Saturday evening, mere hours after West Ham defeated
their west London rivals to remain third in the Premier League. It is the
third time in recent years that the statue - which was erected at the
junction of Green Street and Barking Road in 2003 and officially unveiled by
Prince Andrew - has been defaced. Millwall supporters claimed responsibility
for at least one previous case of vandelism. Anyone with any information
regarding this incident are urged to contact the Met via phone on 101 or via
the web.

Everton captain Phil Jagielka will miss Everton's trip to the Boleyn Ground
in 12 days time after being ruled out for at least two months with a knee
injury. The Toffees, who are 11th in the Premier League with 13 points after
their first ten games of the season will face high-flying West Ham without
their captain after he sustained the injury following what Roberto Martinez
referred to as a "needless" challenge by Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
in their 2-1 defeat at the Emirates on Saturday. The centre back left the
Emirates on crutches and it has been confirmed this lunchtime [Monday] that
he faces around nine weeks out of action as a result. "To lose Phil Jagielka
in such a stupid challenge is disappointing," blasted Martinez following his
team's defeat. "It was an unnecessary challenge. Needless.
Oxlade-Chamberlain puts his foot up when the referee has already given the
free-kick." Prior to that match, West Ham travel to Watford - who enjoyed
their second away win of the campaign at the weekend with a 2-0 win at Stoke
courtesy of goals from Troy Deeney and Almen Abdi. 13th in the Premier
League, the Hornets have managed just one win from their opening five home
games but have failed to score in their two most recent matches at Vicarage
Road, against Crystal Palace and Arsenal.

The benefits of goal-line technology were clear to see at the Boleyn Ground
on Saturday afternoon when Kurt Zouma's effort failed to result in the
awarding of a goal - despite at least 95 per cent of the ball having crossed
the line. Let's make no bones about it; prior to its introduction the same
scenario would almost certainly have resulted in a goal being awarded to
Chelsea, when it was commonplace for the benefit of the doubt to be given to
the Premier League's more notable clubs. Not any more, though.

Referee Jonathan Moss had no option but to allow play to continue when his
earpiece failed to announce that the entire ball had crossed the line. To
his considerable credit, the official got every one of the game's
contentious issues right - as West Ham went on to beat neighbours Chelsea
2-1 at the Boleyn. The visitors, who are rapidly turning into a laughing
stock saw Nemanja Matic dismissed in the first half for two bookable
offences plus coach Silvino Louro and manager Jose Mourinho sent to the
stands. Six further yellow cards were issued too, should anyone question
whether the reigning league champions were given a fair crack of the whip.

But is it any doubt that Chelsea's players behave so petulantly when their
management team display such a lack of professionalism? Mourinho, who raged
at Moss during at half time interval thus earning him a second half
touchline ban didn't even have the courtesy to fulfil his media requirements
post-match, leaving defender Gary Cahill to face the music instead.

On the contrary, Slaven Bilic continues to impress. That he has managed to
unite a fractured fanbase little more than three months after succeeding the
divisive Sam Allardyce is a feat in itself - and the team's results continue
to be outstanding.

Incredibly, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and now Chelsea have been
put to the sword inside the opening ten games of the season and the Hammers
sit third in the Premier League at time of writing. This weekend it was
goals from Mauro Zarate - rejuvenated under the new manager - and Andy
Carroll that did for the ten-man Blues.

The real test for West Ham will probably arrive post-Christmas, when fatigue
and injuries generally begin to take effect.

But when you consider that the likes of Enner Valencia, Alex Song and
£7million signing Michail Antonio have barely kicked a ball between them
this season it's not hard to see why some Hammers fans believe that this
could finally be the season that the much-vaunted 'Boys of '86' are finally
usurped.

Legendary local journalist Ken Dyer is recovering at home after suffering a
heart attack. The popular Evening Standard writer, who has reported on West
Ham United for more than 40 years, was taken ill just over a week ago.
Rushed to hospital where he received emergency treatment, Dyer has since
been allowed to return home where he is currently recuperating. A regular
attendee at the Boleyn Ground over the years and a former travelling
companion of Hammers photographer Steve Bacon, lifelong-supporter Dyer pens
a weekly column for West Ham United's match day programme as well as writing
for the Standard. He was also the ghost writer for former West Ham manager
Sam Allardyce, whose weekly column appeared in the Standard during his four
years at the helm. In his latest column for West Ham's programme, which
appeared on page 75 of last weekend's Chelsea edition, Dyer recalled his
favourite encounters with the Blues over the years - including the 5-5 draw
at Stamford Bridge in December 1966 and the 4-0 win, also at the Bridge, in

Slaven Bilic calm despite fine West Ham run in Premier League

West Ham are not getting carried away with their stunning start to the
season, with manager Slaven Bilic insisting he wants his team to stay in the
"red zone". The Hammers are third in the Premier League after 10 games,
having scored 22 goals, more than any other team in the league apart from
leaders Manchester City. Much has been said of West Ham's unbeaten away run,
after their high-profile victories over Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester
City, but Saturday's victory over champions Chelsea has got some fans
already dreaming of European football next season. With his team currently
on a seven game unbeaten run in the league, Bilic told the club's website:
"If we drop [our level of performance], by even five percent then we are in
trouble. "We have to be in what I call the red zone all the time, we can
never be in the comfort zone, and it can take ages to get out of it. So we
can never be carried away. "We are only a quarter of the way through the
season. To be honest, I don't even think about football like that. One
quarter, so what? All we want to do is concentrate on the next game. "Only
when it is five games to the end of the season or so that we can concentrate
on the league positions." James Collins believes West Ham can finish high up
the table if they can sustain their current form at least until Christmas.
"We have got the squad to do it. That's the major thing. We've got
competition for places in every position," the defender said. "The squad
this year has been improved so much that if we're there, or there abouts,
around Christmas, there's no reason why we can't sustain that and finish
there."
Collins also heaped praise on striker Andy Carroll, who scored the winner in
Saturday's 2-1 win over Chelsea. "Any team in the Premier League would be
delighted to have Andy Carroll on the bench," the 32-year-old said. "If I
was on the defending team and Andy Carroll was coming on, I wouldn't be too
happy about it. If you play the right ball to him I think he's unplayable at
what he does."

Jose Mourinho, Chelsea and West Ham up on FA charges

Jose Mourinho, Silvino Louro, Chelsea and West Ham have all been charged by
the Football Association in the wake of Saturday's London derby. The Chelsea
manager's charge is "in relation to his language and/or behaviour towards
the match officials in or around the dressing room area at half-time" during
his side's 2-1 defeat. Mourinho was sent to the stands after a half-time
altercation with referee Jon Moss, who sent off Nemanja Matic in the 44th
minute and then dismissed Chelsea coach Louro for his reaction to the red
card.

Mourinho was only this month fined £50,000 and given a suspended stadium ban
by the FA, a verdict he is appealing, although the latest misconduct charge
is not for the same offence of criticising referees in the media. Louro's
red-card offence means he is also on an FA charge along with both clubs, who
are accused of failing to control their players in the aftermath of the
Matic sending-off.

All parties have until 6pm on Thursday to respond.

The three Chelsea charges follow on from this month's punishment of Mourinho
for his assertion, after a home defeat to Southampton, that referees are
"afraid" to award his side penalties. But former Premier League referee
Dermot Gallagher told Sky Sports News HQ on Monday the Matic red card was
justified, while former Manchester United coach Steve Round said Mourinho
must stop blaming officials for poor results.

Chelsea's senior players are braced for Jose Mourinho's departure – with
many believing it is a case of 'when not if' their manager is axed.
Dressing-room sources are adamant that there has been no rebellion against
Mourinho - but there is an increasing bemusement at the behaviour of the
Portuguese manager. The Blues boss had already been hit by a £50,000 fine
and a suspended one-match stadium ban for criticising referee Bob Madley
after the home defeat by Southampton earlier this month. And his sending-off
for confronting ref Jon Moss in Saturday's defeat at West Ham was met by
shock among players, most of whom privately believed that the red card for
Nemanja Matic – which triggered the Blues manager's latest meltdown – was a
justified decision. While a handful of players have aired grievances about
Mourinho, there is an insistence that the manager has not "lost the
dressing-room" and a feeling, in the words of one, that "we just want our
Jose back". Yet there is a belief that Mourinho cannot currently lift
himself to display his famed motivational powers.

Mourinho has largely been in a dark mood since the 2-2 home draw with
Swansea on the opening day of the season, when he turned his fire on club
medics Eva Carneiro and Jon Fearn in a flashpoint which led to the departure
of the popular Carneiro. Chelsea have endured their worst-ever start to a
Premier League season, in 15th place with five defeats in ten matches. And
while owner Roman Abramovich made the unprecedented move of offering his
manager a public vote of confidence earlier this month, players have become
convinced that Mourinho is set for the exit. Defeat against Liverpool this
Saturday is likely to prove the final straw for a manager who has won three
Premier League titles in two spells at Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho is facing a touchline ban of up to five matches after he was
charged with improper conduct following his half-time dismissal at Upton
Park on Saturday. The announcement piles further pressure on the Chelsea
boss who has suffered a terrible start and is fighting to save his job. The
Chelsea board are understood to be unhappy with the lack of discipline shown
by the defending champions who will receive an automatic £25,000 for
receiving seven yellow cards against West Ham. The FA today took action
against the Chelsea boss after receiving the referee's report from Jonathan
Moss. Chelsea coach Silvino Louro has also been charged with misconduct
after he was also sent to the stands for entering the field of play to
protest Nemanja Matic' s dismissal. Both clubs have been charged with
failing to control their players around the time of the Serb's dismissal
just before half-time: the West Ham players for pressuring Moss into showing
a second yellow and Chelsea players for protesting the red card. Mourinho is
in most trouble after he was accused of refusing to leave the referee's room
when requested and/or used abusive or insulting language towards the
officials. There is no standard punishment for the offence and Mourinho, who
has until Thursday to reply to the charge, could be fined if found guilty.
There is no suggestion Mourinho touched Moss but the FA could be ready to
hand out a heavy punishment given the Chelsea manager's poor recent
disciplinary record. But in 2013, the then Blackpool manager Paul Ince was
given a five-match stadium ban for 'violently shoving' a fourth official in
an expletive-laden rant,after a match. And last year Nottingham Forest
manager Billy Davies received a five-game touchline ban and was fined £9,000
for abusing referee Anthony Taylor and deliberately making contact with the
official.

West Ham have sent Irons-crazy seven-year-old Kai Goddard a bundle of
goodies from the manager and players after hearing the little lad has
successfully come through a third heart operation in Australia.
ClaretandHugh alerted the club to the little boy's bravery after we
reported that his Dad Mike posted on the group's Facebook group that "Kai
went in for his third open heart surgery and he insisted that we both wear
our West Ham jerseys. And he asked that I post this pic (shown above) to my
Hammers friends COYI 'X'" Mike and his family had been touched by messages
of support all around the world and not just from West Ham fans but
supporters everywhere. West Ham – having been alerted to the little boys
courage – immediately responded with a source declaring: "He's a very
brave little lad and his love of the Hammers is fabulous. " We've sent over
a bag of goodies signed by the team. It's a mixture of toys and cards signed
by the players and we hope it really cheers him up. He's a great kid."

100th as a professional and added that he intends to carry on working hard
to add many more. As reported in an earlier story this morning, the
Argentine striker – perhaps surprisingly selected ahead of Enner Valencia
for the game against Chelsea – is determined to make himself a permanent
first team fixture. His goal against Chelsea could hardly have been better –
a half volley which in terms of technique was as good as any he has scored
before. And the player was not ready to let he moment pass without tweeting
a reminder of the landmark strike to his 36,000 Twiter followers. He said:

"Ignored" Zarate "has shown real character"

One time forgotten man Mauro Zarate has come in from the West Ham cold to
play a major part in the club's surge towards the heights. The Argentine –
cold shouldered by the previous manager and looking likely to make a rapid
exit from the club – has been born again and is determined "to nail a
starting place every week." Zarate's goal against Chelsea was his fourth in
five starts and he has shaken off the horrors of last season in the best
possible way. He was bought from the Argentine outfit Velez Sarsfield for a
humble £2 million having scored 19 goals in 29 goals. Having done well in
both the UK and Europe he was a nailed-on gamble at the price having
returned to the Argentine to rebuild his image after some controversial
episodes.
However, he received very few chances to impress last season and was
eventually kicked out on loan to Queens Park Rangers where his reputation
suffered again amid allegations of fitness problems. But a top insider told
ClaretandHugh earlier this morning: "It's well David Sullivan bought him but
the former manager never gave him a second thought. "His attitude nearly
destroyed the bloke – he never welcomed him to the club, hardly ever talked
to him and generally gave him the cold shoulder. Basically he ignored him.
"It's a tribute to Mauro how he has reacted. He has shown real character
and we hope he will get plenty of game time this season because he's a
player who wants to start every game as he has done most of his career if
he's to remain 100 per cent happy. "He's had a great start and is showing
what he's all about and putting some real value back on himself. We really

New West Ham song recognises new stars

A new song has emerged after the Chelsea victory which recognises many of
our new star players. The new chant goes like this: "We've got Manuel
Lanzini, and Diafra Sakho too. We've got Mauro and Dimitri, and I guarantee
we'll score more goals than you!"

The new song could be heard in the Black Lion pub and Victoria Tavern (Vic)
in Plaistow for many hours after the final whistle as Hammers fans
celebrated the impressive win over reigning Premier League Champions
Chelsea. The Dimtri Payet song which emerged at the Crystal Palace away win
last week was sung by many of the 32,000 Hammers fans who were at the game
on Saturday to witness Chelsea's latest humiliation. West Ham have scored 22
goals this season and are one of two sides to score in every league game,
the other side being Leicester City. We have scored two or more goals in
every league game except Leicester City where we bagged just one. Below is a

following the victory.

Chelsea have been automatically fined £25,000 and asked for their
observations on three disciplinary incidents that occurred in Saturday's 2-1
result at the Boleyn ground. An FA spokesman said on Monday that the
automatic fine would be implemented because six players received a yellow
card in the Premier League game. One of them, Nemanja Matic, was sent off,
making seven cautions in all. Chelsea's coach Silvino Louro and manager Jose
Mourinho who were both sent to the stands during the game likely to bring
further sanctions as Mourinho had a suspended touch line ban hanging over
him after he criticised an official when Chelsea lost to Southampton. There
is also a further suggestion backed up by video coverage that Chelsea
players surrounded an official during the game in breach of a regulation
which allows no more than two players to approach an official. West Ham were
fined £50,000 by the FA in relation to the behaviour of their players during
the 3-0 victory over Liverpool in September following the dismissal of Mark
Noble. The FA await referee Jon Moss' report before deciding on further
punishment against Chelsea.

The Premier League will also write to Chelsea about a breach of the
regulation that clubs must fulfil media obligations after a game.Neither
Mourinho nor any of his coaches attended the traditional post-match news
conference at West Ham. The normal sanction is a warning or a fine.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho reportedly embarked on a "foul-mouthed" diatribe
against referee Jonathan Moss at half-time in the Blues' 2-1 defeat to West
Ham United, prompting taunts from some Hammers players. According the Daily
Mail's Sami Mokbel, Mourinho was sent to the stands for the second half
after being invited to the referees' room at the break, only "to have blown
his top, launching into a foul-mouthed tirade at Moss" after Nemanja Matic
was sent off after picking up two bookings in nine minutes. Per the Mirror's
John Cross, some unnamed West Ham players taunted Mourinho during the
incident by saying: "Don't hang around there—it'll cost you another
£50,000."

As Cross notes, the players were referring to Mourinho's £50,000 fine and
suspended one-match stadium ban from the FA for his comments on referees in
the wake of the Blues' 3-1 defeat to Southampton earlier in October. Mokbel
reports the fallout from this latest worrying act from the 52-year-old will
be determined by Moss' report on the matter, which will be submitted on
Monday. The Telegraph's Paul Hayward and the Mail on Sunday's Oliver Holt
gave their takes on Mourinho, who has appeared increasingly unhinged in
recent weeks: Nevertheless, sports lawyer and writer Jake Cohen believes the
Special One will be given time to turn things around at the club: Mourinho
has some serious work to do after the defeat to West Ham consigned Chelsea
to 15th place, with five league losses already this season. Chelsea are now
11 points behind Manchester City and Arsenal at the summit of the Premier
League and nine behind fourth-placed Manchester United, so it will be some

Carroll - 'You can't describe that feeling'

Injury curtailed his 2014/15 season and meant he missed the start of this,
but a return to the scoresheet with a towering header against Chelsea made
up for lost time. His 79th minute goal won a pulsating London derby for the
Hammers and added Chelsea to a list of impressive scalps that now includes
four of last year's top six. Carroll would love to experience that feeling
on a regular basis to help the Hammers maintain their fine form. He said:
"It's a great feeling to score any goal, but obviously it has been a long
time since I last scored. To get the win as well is even better. "When I saw
the ball come across I knew I had a chance to put it in and as soon as it
went in it was a feeling like you really can't describe. "I keep saying to
Cress to put those balls in and he's just said to me in the dressing room
that I can shut up for a couple of weeks because I've been on to him! As
soon as it came in I was trying to get on the end of it - it might be a
typical Andy Carroll goal but I'll take it! "I just went off celebrating
with the lads and they were all delighted as well. The noise was fantastic
and with the goal at the end the place just erupted. It was great."
West Ham's other results against the big sides have come away from home this
season, so Carroll was thrilled to get one over Chelsea on home turf. He
added: "We've had a great run against the top teams and hopefully we can
keep on going. It's a long season but if we carry on like we have been we'll
do well. "It's nice to get the result here at home, especially for the fans.
They deserve it. We've got a great belief that we can go out and beat the
top teams."
Carroll's return to the fold has been a gradual one, and he says he is
feeling stronger with every game. He explained: "It's great, I just want to
be on the pitch and if it's 20-25 minutes it's a great feeling. Obviously I
want to start, but it's been a long injury and long time so I'll take every
minute I get. "I've taken my time getting back and the manager has
understood - training one day and maybe missing one out. It's a lot easier
for me and my body."

Westley looking to repeat 4-0 win

Academy manager Terry Westley is looking to build on the 4-0 win over Wolves
U21 last Monday when they host Fulham at the Boleyn Ground on Monday 26
October. Following a convincing victory last time out, Westley is hoping to
put a string of run results together.
The experienced coach said: "We're always setting staff and players new
challenges whatever the circumstances but now we're trying to win two games
in a row. "Every team at this level is tough to break down and can hurt
you very quickly. Fulham have a very good reputation at giving young players
the opportunities to succeed. You at Patrick Roberts, who signed for
Manchester City in the summer for a lot of money, he's an outstanding
talent. "We play Fulham fairly regularly at all age groups, and they are
always good, competitive games. Monday should certainly be no different."

Reflecting on the Wolves' result, Westley praised his side's commitment and
work rate. "It was good to get that first win for sure. Seven games without
a win would have been very tough. We had a strong team with Enner Valencia
and Pedro Obiang coming down from the first team. Credit to them with the
way they played the game, they took it seriously and properly committed to
it. "I also thought our younger players equipped themselves very well.
Marcus Browne and George Dobson came on at 1-0 and it finished 4-0 so credit
to them. It was nice for Marcus to get his first goal for the U21s. Not
just his goal but he was really driving at the defence. He's a very talented
boy, and if he applies himself every week, he's got a real chance."

Following a big turnout at the young Hammers' last game at the Boleyn, a 2-2
draw with Newcastle United U21, Westley is hoping for an even bigger turnout
come Monday evening. "There's a very different mind-set to playing in front
of an audience, some players thrive on it while others shrink away. It's a
vital step in every player's development and thankfully we've fared pretty
well in stadiums."
I certainly hope so because our players will have to get used to playing in
packed out stadiums week in, week out."

The U21s host Fulham on Monday 26 October at the Boleyn Ground, kick off is

Swans strike late to deny U18s

West Ham United extended their unbeaten run to six matches as they picked up
a 2-2 Barclays U18 Premier League South draw at Swansea City on Saturday.

Swansea's Brandon Griffiths put the hosts ahead within the opening five
minutes of the game, before the Hammers' schoolboy midfielder Alfie Lewis
popped up at the back post to head home and level the scores before the
break.

Just after half-time, the Hammers turned the game on its head when Irish
centre-half Declan Rice got a flick on a cross to head home his third goal
of the season.

However, just when it looked like West Ham would make it six wins in a row,
Sean Hanbury turned and fired home from inside the box to rescue a point for
the Swans.

The Hammers had made three changes to the side that picked up a fifth
successive victory at home to Brighton & Hove Albion a week earlier.
Goalkeeper Tim Brown replaced Sam Howes between the sticks, while Idris Kanu
came in for England youth international Jahmal Hector-Ingram up front and
Lewis got a welcome U18 start in place of recent Development Squad
goalscorer Marcus Browne.

After that Brighton victory, coach Mark Phillips urged his players not to
become complacent, but Swansea came out quickly at Landore and managed to
punish their visitors.

With just four minutes on the clock, a cross into the Irons penalty area by
Causso Darame found midfielder Jack Watts. His shot at goal was saved by
Brown, but Griffiths was well placed to fire his side ahead.

The Hammers came back at their Welsh hosts well, though, and Swans
goalkeeper Lewis Thomas was tested by stinging shots from both Kanu and
Lewis.

It was Lewis who dragged the visitors back into the game five minutes before
the break, heading home at the back post from a deep cross to secure his
first ever West Ham goal at U18 level.

After the break, it was the Hammers who started the second half well and put
themselves ahead. From a free-kick, defender Rice managed to get enough of a
touch on the cross to beat half-time substitute goalkeeper Alex Lang.

That gave the visitors added belief to push on and try and win a sixth game
in a row, but both Lang and Joe Rodon put their bodies on the line to deny
West Ham a third.

In the last minute of the game, Swansea substitute Hanbury grabbed a share
of the points for his side when he got on the end of a cross from Tom Dyson,
turned and fired powerfully into the roof of the net.

Saturday's result meant West Ham stay fourth in the table at the halfway
point in the regular season.

The Academy of Football start the second half of the season on Saturday 31
October when they look for Halloween revenge against London rivals Fulham,
who beat the Hammers 3-1 in west London in the opening game of the season.

Mauro Zarate was delighted to play his part in securing another famous
victory for the Hammers against Chelsea. Having scored at Arsenal on the
opening day of the season, Zarate was on the scoresheet again as the Hammers
secured a fourth major scalp of the campaign. Zarate's goal was his fourth
of the season and now he just wants to notch more and more. He explained:
"It was a fantastic result and a fantastic match. Everyone ran and everyone
worked and that is the way we have to play to take the three points. "I'm
really happy for the goal because it helped us get the victory. It's my job
to try to get some assists or score, and most importantly work for the team.
"I think getting that early goal helped give us the belief to go on and beat
Chelsea. They are a big team with skilful players who are fantastic with the
dribbling, but we worked hard against that. "We're really tired because it
was a difficult match, but we won. "Andy's winning goal was fantastic - only
he can score a header like that."

Nikola Jurcevic described his role as West Ham United assistant manager as
being 'like a dream' following Saturday's 2-1 win over Chelsea. The Croatian
joined forces with compatriot Slaven Bilic just a few weeks ago, and has yet
to lose since his arrival in east London, helping inspire the Hammers into
the Barclays Premier League's top three. Speaking to West Ham TV, Jurcevic
spoke of his pride at what he, his fellow staff and the Club's players are
achieving at present. "At this moment we are really happy," said the
47-year-old. "It must be like a dream because we won against a really big
club. Our performance today was really perfect. "From the first minute, all
the team fought very well and were helped by our fantastic supporters.
Everyone is so happy today!"

Under Bilic, Jurcevic and first-team coach Edin Terzic, West Ham have
developed a new philosophy whereby they go out to try to win every game.
This positive attitude saw them tear into Chelsea from the first whistle,
leading to an opening goal for Mauro Zarate, a red card for Nemanja Matic
and Andy Carroll's introduction and powerful late winner. "We worked hard
for the last three or four months and we have found a really good team – not
only the first eleven but also another seven, eight or nine who are ready to
help our team," he continued. "We had players who came in and helped us to
win this game. We have also a great atmosphere in the team, along with
discipline and hard work and all together, these help us to be in this
position."

With a little more than 20 minutes remaining, Jurcevic and Bilic were deep
in thought in the technical area, before Carroll was called back from his
warm-up to enter the fray. By that time, Chelsea's ten men had equalised
through Gary Cahill's scrambled equaliser, and West Ham had regrouped but
were finding a winner difficult to come by. Enter Carroll, whose presence
and desire led to a brutal, unstoppable header from Aaron Cresswell's
left-wing cross with eleven minutes to go, chalking up another outstanding
win for the Hammers. "Every time during the game we have short discussions
about situations about what we can do with 15 or 25 minutes to go," he said.
"We had a feeling and made this change and we were lucky with this change
because Andy Carroll scored this important goal for us."

Jurcevic and Bilic worked together previously with Croatia, Lokomotiv Moscow
and Besiktas, where they were used to trying to win every game. That
approach has now arrived in east London, where the Hammers look like a
confident force to be reckoned with under the new managerial team. "I think
everybody expects great things from us this season because of our start and
because of our wins over big teams – Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool and now
Chelsea," he explained. "It's like a dream but we want to stay on the floor,
stay stable and have good training without silly things for the players.
"Our plan is to be good from game to game and we can have a successful
season."

Slaven Bilic had nothing but praise for Andy Carroll and says he is a
special player after he scored the crucial match winner against Chelsea at
the Boleyn Ground. Carroll scored his first Premier League goal since
January with a crucial header on 79 minutes and put months of disappointment
behind him with one of his best moments in a claret and blue shirt. The
Hammers striker has worked hard behind the scenes throughout the summer to
regain full fitness and was in most days during the off-season. Bilic has no
doubts he can become a major player for both club and country again this
season and says he offers so much to the first-team. Bilic said: "Andy is a
big player for us, and also for England. He is special. "He gives us a lot
of options. It's not just long balls, he is a great player, his quality has
never been in doubt. We just needed to get him fit. "Now we are in a really
good situation regarding his fitness and he should be fit and ready for the
long-term. "We will have a lot of benefits from having him fit. It is not
just his work inside the box but also his contribution outside the box. "His
pressing was amazing; his work-rate was excellent. He occupied Terry and
Cahill very well."

Bilic has nothing but praise for his players after they followed up
victories over Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City with another memorable
win over the Premier League champions. Bilic added: "There are always lots
to talk about after 90 minutes of football. I am very proud of my club and
my team. "It was brilliant to beat the champions, it's a great feeling.
There is nothing wrong in admitting that we are playing really good. We
deserved to win. "We want to continue to play well and if we defend as a
unit and attack as a team we have a chance to win every game. We are very
happy. "Every win is important. It is about the home wins and when you do it
against the champions."

yesterday's 2-1 defeat at the hands of Super Slav's West Ham...

"Just watched MOTD. Just seconds after the commentator says that the offside
goal was wrong he says that Chelsea need to get over their paranoia that
refs are against them. Tw4t. He then goes on to list everything in case the
FA aren't thinking of charging Chelsea for the various yellow and red cards.
Afterwards Ian Wright firstly says that Fabregas' KNEE was CLEARLY offside.
I despise this excuse for a human. The second yellow for Matic was bollocks.
Another 50-50 decision that nobody could have challenged if not given. A
coming together. Nothing else. I'm not taking anything away from West Ham.
They should quite rightly be dancing in the streets of whatever town they
park their caravans in."

performances. The level of performance would generally be good enough for at
least a draw in a game like this, although Jon Moss had other ideas. He is

baseball game and just starts doing whatever gets him the biggest cheer from
the crowd. "Weak and naive" doesn't do him justice. I am sure there will be
plenty of attempts to justify individual decisions in hindsight; but they
don't exist out of their context. Matic's first yellow wasn't a yellow to a
West Ham player in literally the first minute. Matic's second yellow wasn't
even a foul when West Ham did it. We had six bookings and a red from 12
fouls and they had one booking from 10. Even 12 fouls to their 10 is a joke
TBH, we weren't even the physical team; but the card discrepancy is a
disgrace. Absolutely shocking display and it will be worn like a badge of
honour when the referees meet on Monday."

"Great referee. He missed a bookable WHU foul around minute 2 - but if I
recall it was close to one of our corner flags, so most refs would have let
that go. On the other hand I did not like the false claims of elbows early
second half by Azpi and Ramires (and possibly Costa - not sure about that
one). I can't really comment on the Costa and Fabregas bookings - but their
complaints did seem long and unnecessary. I thought the Mikel booking was
harsh (he has pulled out of the challenge and barely connected. So all in
all the ref did good job. The offside decision was probably wrong (but a
linesman's decision). The ghost goal is hardly the ref's fault. I suspect it
was a goal - and any other club there would be a review of the goal on line
technology. Matic really had no excuse (he could have had another booking
between the two). When opponents know you can turn and chase it is bad
enough. When even referees are looking out for it - you are in trouble."

Andy Carroll can be 'a big player' for England, Slaven Bilic says

Andy Carroll can stay fit in the long-term and be "a big player" for West
Ham and England, according to Slaven Bilic. The striker's winner against
Chelsea on Saturday was his first goal this season and just an eighth since
he made a permanent move to east London in the summer of 2013. Injuries have
restricted Carroll to just 24 Premier League starts in that time, but Bilic
is confident a rigorous recent training programme has left the 26-year-old
in shape to perform for club and country.
Roy Hodgson, who gave Carroll the most recent of his England caps in October
2012, was at the Chelsea game, and Bilic said: "Andy is a big player for us,
and also for England. He is special. "He gives us a lot of options. It's not
just long balls, he is a great player, his quality has never been in doubt.
We just needed to get him fit. "Now we are in a really good situation with
that and he should be fit long-term. Then West Ham and possibly England
should have a great benefit."
Slaven Bilic admits Chelsea's disallowed goal, whether ruled out correctly
or not, had a significant impact on West Ham's 2-1 win over the
title-holders. Carroll's goal was his first since January, and he told the
club website: "It's a great feeling to score any goal, but obviously it has
been a long time since I last scored. To get the win as well is even better.
"When I saw the ball come across I knew I had a chance to put it in and as
soon as it went in it was a feeling like you really can't describe. It might
be a typical Andy Carroll goal, but I'll take it. "I just want to be on the
pitch and if it's 20 or 25 minutes it's a great feeling. Obviously I want to
start, but it's been a long injury and long time so I'll take every minute I
get."

The Portuguese's nightmare season went from bad to worse at Upton Park, and
this will not have helped his mood

If your name is Jose Mourinho , life is pretty miserable right now. Chelsea
have endured a nightmare start to the season, winning only three of their
opening 10 Premier League games, leaving them closer to the relegation zone
than the top four. It went from bad to worse yesterday, as in-form West Ham
heaped the misery on Mourinho and his Blues with a 2-1 victory at Upton
Park. Just to pile on the pain further, Mourinho was banished to the stands
by referee Jon Moss at half-time, and watched on from up high as Andy
Carroll headed the winner, surrounded by celebrating Hammers. Having
declined to speak to the press after the game, the Chelsea boss will have
been pleased to get home, pour himself a glass of wine and forget the day's
events. Unless he checked Twitter, that is.

Having already been mercilessly trolled by Danny Dyer, Irons co-chairman
David Gold has now got in on the act. He posted a picture of Mourinho
walking past a group of young West Ham mascots, with the caption: "OK - who
would like to play for Chelsea next week?"
A brutal bit of gloating from the Hammers' head honcho… but pretty funny
too.

The biggest complement I can pay this magnificent West Ham team is to say
that neither Winston Reid or Victor Moses were missed yesterday. Two of
their finest performers missing and probably their greatest victory of the
season – certainly at home where they have had all their troubles. Reidy is
the line leader at the back yet even without his inspirational qualities
they looked solid, organised and well marshalled. It truly was one hell of a
performance and I can tell you this: We are watching one of the best West
Ham teams in many, many years. Mourinho made a fool of himself as Hugh
reported this morning and if he wants the headlines for all the wrong
reasons get on with it mate. We've got the three points and we'll settle for
that. You just carry on with your moaning and groaning over nothing because
if ever a player deserved to be sent off it was Matic. If Mourinho can't see
that he's lost it. But back to us. We all know we are watching a quite
fantastic Hammers side and to have 20 points by the 25th of October is an
enormous achievement Slaven has been making brilliant decisions and to be
here after 10 games is breathtaking but this should just be the start. I
don't know where we are going but it's somewhere very exciting. Somewhere
along the way though there will be a dry period – there always is and it
will be how he and the players react to that which will be the next test.
What I would love to see is the Hammers sitting with 40 points from 25 games
because who on earth knows where we could go from there. Everybody was
magnificent yesterday with James Tomkins being truly excellent at the back.
Noble and Kouyate were outstanding and while up front Lanzini and Payet were
sensational, it was Sakho who put in the hard yards again. It was his
relentless running which tired the Chelsea defenders sufficiently for Andy
Carroll to come on and make such an impact. Slav has got everything spot on
and with the sort of option we now have it can only get better and better.

The image of David Gold out of his skull with excitement as Andy Carroll's
winner hits the net against Chelsea is clearly the picture of the day. As
explained in the accompanying story it tells us everything about his passion
for the club. And in an interview with Claretandhugh DG's obsession with the
club and everything assoiated with it came through like a laser light when
we spoke to him exclusively earlier today. Gold arms up in airHe'd calmed
down a little but not much and beamed: "It's time to start believing. We had
a good start last season but nothing like this." He's not wrong. By the same
time last season we had beaten Liverpool and Manchester City at home which
represented the high points and managed 17 points . This year of course it's
20 points, those four amazing results, third place, and second highest
scorers in the league with 22 goals. All of this is so important to the co
chairman and us all and he says: "It's perfectly feasible our last season at
this grand old ground could be our best – why not? "We are ten games in and
we can look at things more objectively. When we won at Arsenal on opening
day I thought 'That was very nice.' Leicester and Bournemouth got me
thinking and then came this amazing run – we can all start to believe. "I
now can't see any reason to fear any team. I go everywhere believing we can
win. It was so important that this was the season of seasons. We want to
leave here having given the fans something to carry in their hearts
forever."
I asked him if he could truly believe what was happening and exactly how he
felt and his answer was immediate: "I feel fantastic – utterly fantastic. "I
feel as the fans do. Out of my head with excitement. The whole thing is
totally amazing. We are all that kid again who couldn't wait for Saturday to
come around. "We are seeing a great side playing great football who could
easily give this wonderful old place the send off of send offs. It's
fabulous."
