Club's first signing of the summer. The highly-decorated and
hugely-experienced Argentina international full-back will join the Hammers
on a two-year deal on 1 July, when his contract with Manchester City
expires. A fine defender and respected leader, Zabaleta won two Premier
League titles and four other trophies during nine outstanding seasons with
the Citizens. Now, he is hoping to bring his wide-ranging and undoubted

Born in the town of Arrecifes, 110 miles north west of Buenos Aires, Pablo
Zabaleta joined the capital city's San Lorenzo club at the age of 12. There,
he racked up nearly 100 appearances by the age of 20, earning a move to the
relative riches of Spanish football and Barcelona-based Espanyol in 2005.
A year later, Zabaleta lifted the Copa del Rey, and two further successful
seasons in La Liga caught the attention of some of Europe's biggest clubs.
In August 2008, he chose to move to Manchester City over Italian giants
Juventus, citing the lure of the Premier League as his major motivation. A
day later, City were taken over by new Abu Dhabi-based owners and the South
American quickly established himself as a key figure in Mark Hughes'
new-look side.
The versatile Zabaleta retained his starting place under Roberto Mancini,
scoring the opening goal in the vital 3-2 final-day win over Queens Park
Rangers that brought a first Premier League title to the club in 2012. Two
years later, he missed just three Premier League matches as City were
crowned champions for a second time. He leaves the Etihad Stadium having
made 332 appearances and scored eleven goals for the Citizens.
At international level, Zabaleta captained Argentina to FIFA World Youth
Championship glory in 2005, won Olympic Gold in Beijing in 2008 and has
appeared at two Copa America and one FIFA World Cup finals. In all, he has
58 caps for his country.

experienced Manchester City and Argentina defender will arrive at London
Stadium on 1 July after agreeing a two-year contract following his departure
from the Citizens. The 32-year-old has developed a reputation for being a
focused and committed professional - an approach which has led to him making
230 Premier League appearances, winning seven major trophies and appearing
in the FIFA World Cup and Copa America finals. The Joint-Chairman is a big
fan of the new No5, and worked around the clock for ten days to secure his
services after learning of his availability. "I have been working on this

So after announcing on Thursday that the club is to release Calleri, Tore
and Arbeloa, West Ham today announce their first signing of the transfer
window in Argentinian International Pablo Zabaleta. In my opinion this is an
amazing transfer for the following three reasons:
Experience
The player has played at all levels of the game which include over 50 caps
for Argentina. He has honours that include 2 Premier League winners' medals
and an FA Cup winner's medal. This will help our younger players including
Byram and Cresswell to improve their game and learn from this experience.
Oh, and not to forget there is also another certain Argentinian currently on
our payroll who will benefit from another countryman joining.
Leadership
Zabaleta is known for his dogged style and has captained club, and on
occasions country. This is leadership that West Ham are currently lacking
and in big games could be the difference. Also, if Mark Noble does drop to
the bench next season then he could easily fit into his shoes helping to
raise the team if and when there are difficult situations.
Value
Some may say this is Zabaleta's last pay day but as a free transfer and an
£80K a week salary for two years (option for a third), I find this great
value. Pablo played 31 games for Manchester City (19 League, 5 Cup and 7
Champions League) last season and scored 2 goals, so he is far from past it.

West Ham have released their new away kit for the 2017/18 campaign.
Featuring barely any of the club's traditional claret whatsoever, the club's
new second kit is all black with "bluefish" trim throughout. Priced at £55
for adults and £45 for children, the kit is available to pre-order online
now. The kit will be available in-store at the club's main outlets from 15
June.

Pablo Zabaleta has completed his free transfer move to West Ham. The former
Manchester City right back, 32, has signed a two-year contract with the
Hammers after his contract with Manchester City expired at the end of last

Player sales and terminations should boost Slaven Bilic's war chest closer
to £150 million

Slaven Bilic should have as much as £150 million to spend reshaping his West
Ham United team this summer. When the Hammers moved from their beloved
Boleyn Ground to the Olympic Stadium, co-owners David Sullivan and David
Gold promised big 'marquee' signings. In reality as one West Ham famously
told a talkSPORT radio phone in earlier this season, 'We got Simone Zaza and
some scaffolding'. Many supporters are sceptical over the intentions of
co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold. Indeed many believe their bluster
about "£35m marquee striker signings" was a ploy to sell season tickets. If
it was, it worked - or certainly helped - as West Ham sold 52,000 season
tickets, second only to Manchester United. With Zaza's loan cancelled
before the £25m obligation to buy clause was activated West Ham never ended
up signing that "marquee" striker. James Tomkins and Dimitri Payet were sold
for a combined £35 million this season while the Hammers announced record
income in their annual accounts last week off the back of the
ever-increasing TV deal. The extra ticket revenue, commercial and
merchandising revenue streams has seen the club enter the prestigious
European Deloitte Football Money League Top 20 for the first time, as
proudly paraded on its official website back in January. Enner Valencia, who
has spent the season on loan at Everton, has impressed and could be set for
a £10m move to Goodison Park this summer.
Meanwhile flop Sofiane Feghouli is an £8m target for Roma and Inter Milan
while the Hammers might cut their losses on record £20.5m signing Andre Ayew
after Marseille were linked with a £25m bid for their former forward. Add in
the fact that Alvaro Arbeloa, Gokhan Tore and Jonathan Calleri have all been
released after the expiration of their respective contract deals and the
Hammers are seriously flush. Then factor in the money that would have been
made available anyway for the summer - typically around £25 million under
Sullivan and Gold - and Bilic should expect no less than a £150m warchest to
start playing catch-up on the top six.
Yes the club still carries historic debt - which club doesn't nowadays - but
that was never held up as an issue by the owners when persuading fans to
make the move to Stratford so why should it become one now they are flush
with cash. Whether Sullivan and Gold sanction that kind of unprecedented
spending remains to be seen and reports of their first signing of the summer
being the free transfer of ageing defender Pablo Zabaleta and it does not
bode well. One thing is for certain, though, for the first time Hammers fans
are truly expectant. Supporters were reluctant to leave Upton Park and many
did so on the promise it would allow them to compete with the Premier League
elite in terms of finances, in the transfer market and for success. Those
fans will not settle for empty promises any longer, Sullivan and Gold will
have to deliver.

According to Calcio Mercato, Southampton are interested in signing Juventus
midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah. The report claims that both West Ham and
Southampton are keen on bringing the Ghanian to England ahead of next
season. Turkish side Galatasaray are also said to be in the hunt, but a move
to the Premier League could be a tantalising proposition over Turkish
football. Asamoah could be set to leave Juventus after featuring in just 17
Serie A matches this season, and 11 the campaign before. He looks to have
become surplus to requirements at the Champions League finalists, with
Southampton now looking ready to pounce. The 28-year-old has played 129
times for Juventus since signing from Udinese in 2012, scoring only five
goals in that time. This is not the first player Southampton and West Ham
have been rumoured to be battling for, with both sides linked to Kelechi
Iheanacho and Martin Braithwaite.

West Ham target Watford youngster Dion Pereira, but face competition from

Watford youngster Dion Pereira is wanted by West Ham and Newcastle United
and could leave Vicarage Road for a small fee. The 18-year-old broke into
the Watford first-team squad this season, coming on as a substitute in the
matches against Leicester and Manchester City in May – though he has yet to
sign a professional deal with the Hornets. Pereira, a left-footed wide
player, has been offered terms by Watford but is considering his options. As
well as West Ham and newly-promoted Newcastle, Brighton – who will also play
in the Premier League next season – are interested along with Reading.
Pereira was named the club's young player of the year at Monday's awards
ceremony at Wembley, yet his future is uncertain. Pereira first played for
Watford at Under-9 level but is weighing up his future.
Watford would be entitled to compensation were Pereira to leave but that
would be decided at a later date by a tribunal. Pereira was given his
opportunity by the recently-departed Walter Mazzarri but some feel he may
decide to pursue his career elsewhere, given the regularity with which
Watford change their managers. Slavisa Jokanovic, Quique Sanchez Flores and
Mazzarri all failed to convince the Pozzo family, the club's Italian owners,
that they deserved a second season in the role. Jokanovic led Watford to
promotion from the Championship in 2015, while both Flores and Mazzarri kept
the side in the Premier League.

According to reports by Sport Witness, West Ham are in pole position to sign
Toulouse striker Martin Braithwaite ahead of Premier League rivals
Southampton due to their links with his agent.
Braithwaite is represented by Boutique Transfer's and Management, whose main
client is West Ham's Winston Reid. Reid has been with West Ham since 2008 so
the club already has a long standing relationship with the agency.
West Ham are often linked with France based players as the club do a lot of
work with agents in the country to source out available deals. Both West Ham
and Southampton are said to have already 'expressed their interest' in
Braithwaite, however the 25 year old Dane has a contract with Toulouse until
June 2019, so the French outfit are not under pressure to sell him.
According to Sky Sports, Slaven Bilic's side tabled an £8.5million bid for
the Ligue 1 player in the January transfer window. The bid was rejected as
it is believed that Toulouse are unwilling to let Braithwaite go for less
than £10million. Braithwaite joined Toulouse in 2013 and is a forward who
prefers to play centrally but is also capable of playing out on the wing.
The striker has 11 goals and three assists to his name this past season.

The Argentine defender enjoyed nine unforgettable years at the Etihad

City fans gave him an incredible send-off in his final home game and the
talented full-back was given a guard of honour as he left the field. Bilic
was determined to bring an experienced right back into the squad after
allowing former World Cup winner Alvaro Arbeloa to leave the Hammers during
the summer. Zabaleta, 32, still feels he has a lot to offer at the highest
level and was determined to carry on playing in the Premier League when he
made the tough decision to leave Manchester City. "This is an absolute

The great city stretches sunlit way below him but Pablo Zabaleta has little
or no interest in the Palace of Westminster standing majestic on the
opposite bank of the Thames. Instead, the 32-year-old Argentine is looking
east, attempting to pick out what is to become, after nine hugely successful
years at Manchester City, his new home: the London Stadium.
Zabaleta, released by City with legendary status, has signed a two-year deal
with West Ham and is marking the occasion with a ride on the London Eye. The
Hammers, who have been short of a quality right-back for some time, have
wasted little time in signing the vastly experienced Zabaleta: firstly, and
most importantly, to improve their team; secondly, to add personality and
resilience to their line-up; and, thirdly, to help young full-back Sam Byram
in his continued development.
Breaking off from parading West Ham's new away kit, Zabaleta, who won the
full set of domestic prizes in his time at City, talks about the different
sorts of challenges which lie ahead in East London.
"I've been thinking about making this decision since January," he says. "I
had been a long time at Manchester City and it was important to make the
right decision for myself, my family and my future club. I wanted to go to
the right place. Even though I had been playing in England for so long, and
the fact that I had offers from Spain and Italy, I wanted to stay in the
Premier League.
"This is the League that is really in my heart, where I have enjoyed playing
for many seasons. There was also interest from some English clubs but West
Ham was the first choice for me. I knew from the start that this was the
right place for me and I really want to thank co-chairman David Sullivan
helping to make this move happen.
"To carry on playing for several more years, to bring my experience here -
hopefully that will help this club have a very successful time ahead.
Everything seemed right. I have always had a huge respect for West Ham. The
tradition of the club in English football is massive and we have seen, down
the years, so many good players in that shirt.
"Also, it is a new era for the club: moving to the London Stadium, making
that big step forward and, of course, it is a great city. I have only been
here before for a few days and I do not know it well but it will be a
fantastic place to live with the family."
There are some players who, towards the twilight years of their career, move
for an easier, less pressurised but still lucrative option. Not Zabaleta.
"Money is not the most important thing in life," he says. "As a player, the
priority is to enjoy what you do - in training and in playing matches. There
is already a tradition of Argentine players at this club: Carlos Tevez,
Javier Mascherano and now Manuel Lanzini, who has become one of the most
important players for West Ham. Hopefully I can continue that tradition. "I
spoke a few times to Manu because I wanted information about the club and he
always gave me really good words about everyone. That was important for me
when making my decision."
Zabalata is at once sombre, though, when asked about this week's atrocities
in his adopted city of Manchester. "An episode like this is really hard and
the fact there were a lot of kids there is what hurts the most," he says.
"All my thoughts and prayers go out to these families and I want to show my
support at this time. It is important at times like this for the rest of the
world to be united in that support."
The London Eye ride is almost over, but for Zabaleta he is relishing a new
capital city experience. "I know I am not a long-term player for the club
but while I am here I want to show commitment and give all I can, to always
be one hundred per cent ready to help the team achieve important things," he
says. "I know there were some issues last season but hopefully we can learn
from that. We could blame the move or anything else but we must make sure we
are prepared psychologically for the next few years so that we can make West
Ham a better team, a better club."
Zabaleta is the first of what manager Slaven Bilic believes will be several
quality arrivals at West Ham this summer. Another could be City's Nigerian
striker Kelechi Iheanacho - and former team-mate Zabaleta did little to
defuse that speculation: "Kelechi is a young player at Manchester City and
it has been tough for him, with top strikers like Sergio Aguero and Gabriel
Jesus in the team but he has a great future," he says. "I think he needs to
go somewhere, prove himself and show everyone how good he is."
As it turned out, Zabaleta never did quite identify the London Stadium, far
to the east. He wasn't that bothered, though. He knows his direction of
travel.

first signing of the summer. The 32-year-old was released by Manchester City
at the end of the 2016-17 season after making 333 appearances for the
Citizens. He signs on a two-year deal. Zabaleta also had options in Spain
and Italy but ultimately decided to continue his Premier League career with
the Hammers. The Argentina international will bring a wealth experience to
the London Stadium, having played a key role in City's recent rise to elite
level.
Zabaleta slipped down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola but will be
expected to establish himself as West Ham's first-choice right back. Bilic
also has Sam Byram at his disposal while Alvaro Arbeloa is expected to leave
the cub after making just four appearances in his debut season in east
London. Zabaleta's move was decided upon following Monday's end-of-season
review meeting between Bilic and co-owner David Sullivan. The Croatian
manager, who has had to cope with a lengthy injury list this season, is
targeting a total or four new arrivals ahead of the 2017-18 season.

The agent of Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho has refused to rule
out his client making a switch to West Ham this summer as Slaven Bilic looks
to bolster his strike force. Iheanacho is just one of the names being linked
as the Hammers desperately search for at least one new front man, if not
two, to solve a problematic area of the pitch. Andy Carrolll and Diafra
Sakho simply didn't play enough games last season thanks to injury, while
Joanthan Calleri has returned to South America after his loan spell and the
less said about Simone Zaza, the better. The 20-year-old has been with City
since 2014 and made his first team debut a year later. Iheanacho has
struggled to be a first team regular for City with the small matter of
Sergio Aguero ahead of him but he has still managed to bag 12 goals in 42
appearances. Iheanacho's agent told owngoalnigeria.com: "It's clear he won't
be sold to a direct title rival by Man City, so when I see the reported
interest from Spurs, I know if it becomes official it will be dismissed
outrightly, but Everton and West Ham we will have to wait and see."

Pablo Zabaleta has agreed a two-year deal to join West Ham United on a free
transfer. The Argentina right back has left Manchester City after seeing out
his contract at the Etihad Stadium. It means Zabaleta, 32, is set to be
Slaven Bilic's first major summer signing. He joined City from Espanyol in
2008 and made more than 300 appearances for City, winning two Premier League
titles and the FA Cup. Zabaleta bid a tearful farewell to his former club at
the end of the campaign. 'It has been nine wonderful years,' he said. 'We
cannot forget where we have come from. We have to be very proud. I am so
proud to see where Manchester City is today. 'It took so much work over so
many years and the future is bright for this football club because the right
people are here to carry it on. For me, I feel I have done enough and it is
the right time to move on. 'It has been a fantastic time. I have been part
of the most successful period in Manchester City's history. I am so humbled
by that.'

West Ham unveil new black Umbro away kit ahead of the 2017-18 season

West Ham have unveiled their new away strip for the forthcoming season. The
Hammers will sport a black Umbro kit, with electric blue piping on the
shoulders, featuring a matching coloured crest. The shirt also features a
Union Jack motif which harks back to the club's origins as Thames Ironworks
FC. The strip is a vast change to the change kit worn during the 2016-18
campaign; a white shirt with claret and blue trim. It's West Ham's third
season working alongside Umbro, who signed a five-year deal with the club in
April 2015, representing the club in their final year at the Boleyn Ground,
and opening season at the London Stadium. Captain Mark Noble said: "It's a
really smart kit! I like the dark-coloured kits and you can wear this one
with a pair of jeans as easily as when you are playing football with your
mates. "I think this black kit looks powerful, it's a really nice kit and
I'm certainly looking forward to wearing it in front of our fantastic
travelling supporters. "We've had so many memorable away games down the
years and the fans who follow us are always fantastic, especially in the big
cup matches at places like Tottenham and Manchester United. I remember
winning at Spurs in 2013 and the scenes in the away end were amazing –
that's what it means to our away fans when we get the result! "I remember
being in the away end myself as a kid and it was always brilliant being part
of it all. You can really hear our fans everywhere we go and when we're
winning, sometimes it feels like we're playing at home!"

Man City striker Kelechi Iheanacho is reportedly a target for West Ham
United, and the Hammers will use Pablo Zabaleta to convince him to make the
move. The 20-year-old has struggled for regular playing time under Pep
Guardiola this season, making 29 appearances in all competitions with
limited minutes. He's still scored seven goals and provided three assists in
that time, and so the feeling is that perhaps with a more prominent role, he
could be a more effective weapon for a top side.
According to The Sun, with Pablo Zabaleta strongly linked with a move to the
Olympic Stadium this summer, West Ham will use the Argentine to help prise
Iheanacho away from Manchester in a £25m deal. The veteran full-back was a
mentor to the youngster at the Etihad, and it's claimed that he could use
that relationship with him to persuade him to join him in London and take
his career to the next level rather than continue to warm the bench at City.
Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero will keep him down the pecking order, and
with Guardiola likely to explore his options to strengthen his squad further
this summer, Iheanacho could find himself further down the list by the time
the new season comes around. It's added from a financial perspective that
West Ham are willing to double his £35,000-a-week wages at City, and so it
really looks as though Slaven Bilic is keen to land his top target to try
and solve their goalscoring problems from last season.

Professional contract for Hammers youngster

successive days to sign his first professional contract with West Ham

was a proud moment to pen his new deal
Promising midfielder Conor Coventry has signed his first professional
contract with West Ham United. The 17-year-old, who has been with the Club
since he was ten, is un U18 regular and also represents the Republic of
Ireland at U17 youth level. Coventry made 21 appearances for Steve Potts and
Mark Phillips' Academy of Football side this season, helping the outfit
qualify for the upper tier of the U18 Premier League earlier this year. The
central-midfielder also made two appearances for the U23 side, scoring on
his London Stadium debut in February's 2-0 victory over Fulham. And securing
his first professional deal was a proud moment for the youngster.
"It's really good for me and my family," he said. "I've worked for this for
a long time so yes, I'm really happy to sign the deal.
"I've been at the Club since I was ten, so it's good to finally get a pro
contract and see if I can kick on again from this. "[This season] has been
good. I've just tried to work hard and firstly get myself in the U18s team
and then get a few appearances for the 23s. I've done what I set out to do
and overall I'm happy. "It was a good moment [to score my first goal for the
23s]. It gave me an incentive to try and get back in the team and try and
add more goals to my game. I want to try and improve that and add more goals
to my game. "I think I'm a good all-round midfielder and I like to tackle
pass and do a bit of everything. I just try to make sure I'm good in all
areas of the pitch and my game."
Academy Director Terry Westley thinks Coventry can develop even further next
season with the fantastic games' programme the Academy look forward to next
season. "The U23s will play the likes of Man United, City, Liverpool,
Everton, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, so it's great for the Academy," Westley
said. "It's a great games programme we have next season. "They're good
fixtures for 23s players, especially if you're an U18 like Conor is. Conor
has been over to Rush Green to train with the first team and he's been with
the U23 group this year too, so you can see that progression. "I think to
have that plan about what you're going to do with a player is important. If
you're sitting down with the player and the player's parents and he's a top,
young player, you want to see there's progression for them. "Conor is a lad
we think a lot of, and very gifted player with the ball and he has an awful
lot to come."
Coventry has made six appearances for Ireland's U17s in total, winning every
one of the games and starting five. And the youngster is keen to continue
his encouraging progress with international football. "I love [playing for
Ireland] because it's playing for your country and there's nothing really
like that," he continued. "It's great to get the experience of playing
against teams from all over the world, different styles of play, and I think
it's proved to be good for my development. "You get to see what different
players are going to do against you and how different teams will set up
against you. In the Premier League, there's a lot of different nationalities
so it's a good learning curve for the future if I get to play at that
level."

Cresswell called-up for two big England fixtures

Aaron Cresswell has been called-up by England for two mouth-watering
fixtures in June. Gareth Southgate has included the West Ham United
left-back in his squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier with Scotland
in Glasgow on Saturday 10 June and friendly international with France in
Paris on Tuesday 13 June. The Hammers No3 will hope to add to the cap he was
awarded when he made his senior England debut against Spain at Wembley last
November. Speaking then, Cresswell said playing for his country was
something he had dreamt of doing since he first started playing football as
a boy in his home city of Liverpool. "I was obviously delighted, as it is a
dream come true," he told whufc.com. "Ever since I started playing football
as a little boy, this is what I wanted to do, and to do it at Wembley in
front of 84,000 fans, I can't speak any higher of it. "It is something I've
always wanted to do and I've achieved it."
After overcoming a knee injury caused by a poorly-timed challenge in
pre-season, the 27-year-old regained full fitness and totalled 29 first-team
appearances in the Premier League, EFL Cup and Emirates FA Cup in 2016/17.
Cresswell could come up against two very familiar faces should he feature in
England's two upcoming fixtures.
Current West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass has been included in the Scotland
squad for their vital UEFA qualifying Group F meeting with the Auld Enemy at
Hampden Park. Fourth-place Scotland go into their clash on seven points,
while unbeaten England lead Group F on 13 points. Slovakia and Slovenia sit
between the two on nine and eight points respectively, all from five
qualifying matches played.
The Scotland fixture will kick-off at 5pm and be screened live in the UK by
both ITV and Sky Sports.
Then, Cresswell could face former West Ham teammate Dimitri Payet at the
Stade de France, as his fellow one-time Hammer of the Year has been selected
in Didier Deschamps' squad for the match. The France fixture will be
screened live by ITV, with kick-off at 8pm.

West Ham United issue Retain List

West Ham United have issued the Club's Retain List of players at the end of
the 2016/17 season. Academy graduates Moses Makasi and Noha Sylvestre have
both signed new one-year deals, while the Club has exercised an option in
full-back Alex Pike's contract to extend for a further year.
Loanee Jonathan Calleri (pictured, above) returns to Uruguayan parent club
Deportivo Maldonado after appearing 19 times for the Hammers, with the
Argentinian striker scoring his only goal in the Premier League victory at
Middlesbrough in January.
A second loanee, Turkish midfielder Gokhan Tore (pictured, below), returns
to his parent club Besiktas after making eight appearances in all
competitions – five in the Premier League, two in the UEFA Europa League and
one in the EFL Cup. The 25-year-old was the man who provided the assist for
the first-ever Premier League goal scored at London Stadium – Michail
Antonio's header against AFC Bournemouth in August.
Alvaro Arbeloa's contract expires on 30 June after his single season in east
London, during which time he made three Premier League appearances and also
started the EFL Cup victory over Accrington Stanley.
Young professionals Sam Howes, Sam Ford, Kyle Knoyle and Sam Westley will
also depart after not being offered new contracts. Nineteen-year-old
goalkeeper Howes was capped by England at U17, U18 and U19 levels, while he
also appeared for the first team on the Football United Tour to New Zealand
in summer 2014. The teenager spent the 2016/17 season on loan at National
League South club Hampton & Richmond Borough. Striker Ford also spent part
of the 2016/17 campaign on loan in National League South with Bishops
Stortford, having joined West Ham from Ipswich Town in March 2016. Defender
Knoyle, 20, made his one and only Hammers appearance in the UEFA Europa
League third qualifying round second leg defeat by Astra Giurgiu in Romania
in August 2015. The Newham-born player was later loaned to Scottish club
Dundee United, where he reached the 2016 Scottish Cup semi-finals. Knoyle
spent part of the 2016/17 season on loan at Championship side Wigan
Athletic. Finally, defender Westley, 23, joined the Hammers from Stoke City
in July 2014 and has appeared regularly for the Club's U21 and U23 sides.
Westley also spent the 2015/16 season on loan with Dutch club VVV-Venlo,
making his first-team debut in a Jupiler League victory over FC Den Bosch in
April 2016.
The Club would like to thank all those named above who will be leaving for
their efforts and wish them well in their future careers.

Slaven Bilic - We need game-changers

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic will enjoy a well-earned break from the
incessant pressure of being a Premier League manager over the next few
weeks. After ten months of near non-stop action, the Hammers' season ended
with victory at Burnley and an eleventh-place finish on Sunday. Bilic will
now undergo surgery on a long-standing hip problem before heading back to
his native Croatia to spend time with his family - but his mobile phone will
remain switched on (almost) all the time as the Club looks to bring in
quality signings this summer. In the first of a three-part West Ham TV Iron
Works interview, the boss identified the attributes he is looking for in
potential new recruits, his own summer plans and why a new playmaker will
help Manuel Lanzini to flourish...
What will you do this summer to recharge your batteries?
"I need it like everybody else. You need to rest so I'm going to rest with
family and friends back home [in Croatia] after my operation, which I'm
going to do in London. The week after I can fly back home and I'm going to
be at home, basically on crutches.
"I'm looking forward to it because it's going to be like a proper rest."
People wouldn't realise how little you see your family during the season
compared to people with 'ordinary' jobs…
"If you live in London, what is an 'ordinary' job these days? The hours that
the average workers are working, unfortunately they don't see their kids a
lot as well. "OK, it's more because you are away at the weekends but it's
that kind of a job, so I'm looking forward to spending some time with the
family." "Of course! We're not starting now, we've been talking for the
whole season, monitoring and now it's about time to do it, not necessarily
in a couple of weeks but until the finish, until the end of the transfer
window. "We know what positions we want to improve the team. We have a list
of the players but it's not very easy to get them, you know. It looks very
positive so far."
It's not fair to ask you about positions or names, but it's fair to ask what
type of player you would like to add to your squad – their qualities and
attributes?
"We need quality players. Of course you always need quality players but
sometimes you are buying players for the future, sometimes you are buying
players for the squad to be back-ups and all that, but we are good in that
department. "OK, we can talk about, if some of the players go, we can
refresh the team with new players, but mainly we need the players who are
going to improve the quality and be the game-changers. "There are no
guarantees in football, but we need starting XI players in certain
positions. "We want it all, but those players are very hard to get and they
cost a bit. They are pretty much the privilege of the big, big, big guns. We
have to close our eyes on some things. We can't expect them to tick all the
boxes with a mark ten.
"But athleticism is very important in today's football, especially in the
Premier League if you are talking about physicality and all that. It's got
to be fit players with stamina, with pace definitely and the of course good
enough in all other departments.
"It depends, because we are looking in a few positions. In some positions,
we are looking for physicality and they may lack a bit of first touch and
delivery, but if you are talking about midfield area, if we want something
in midfield, and I'm not saying we do because we are good there, then we
would like to add a bit more quality.
"We have legs and physicality but we would like to add a little bit more
quality to [Manuel] Lanzini, like what we had last year with Manu and
[Dimitri] Payet, which was a great combination, not just for the two of them
but for the whole team. It was great for [Aaron] Cresswell, for Mark Noble,
for [Cheikhou] Kouyate, for the strikers, for Michail Antonio, so the whole
team was benefiting from that link between the two of them."

David Gold - Why I'm optimistic for next season

Joint-Chairman David Gold pens his thoughts on West Ham United's 2016/17
season...
Hello everyone,
It was a very positive finish to the season at Burnley on Sunday, when I
thought we showed great character and spirit to come from behind and take
all three points.
The last few weeks really have summed up what a roller-coaster campaign it
has been. We had that fantastic performance and result against Tottenham,
when the atmosphere at London Stadium was absolutely electrifying, followed
by a very disappointing defeat to Liverpool in our final home game, before
bouncing back on the final day at Burnley. Not only that, but we beat them
with no fewer than eight established first-team players out injured.
Our last seven matches of the season brought three wins, three draws and
just one defeat – during a period when we were beset with injuries, so I
think Slaven and the players deserve a lot of credit for showing such fight
and determination at an extremely important time.
Our aim at the start of the season was to hopefully finish close to where we
ended up last year, so there is a slight tinge of disappointment that we
were unable to do that. However, given all of the circumstances and the
issues that have confronted us this season, I think we have to say that
finishing eleventh – and just one point off eighth place – was an acceptable
outcome.
It also shows that there are such fine margins in the Premier League. You
could say that had West Brom not grabbed that last-gasp equaliser at London
Stadium in February, we would have finished in eighth place, one point ahead
of Southampton. Of course it's a big 'if', but it does show that we actually
haven't been too far away from where we want to be.
And perhaps the element of our campaign that I am most proud of is the fact
that, when times have been tough and the pressure really has been on, the
players have stepped up and shown the qualities needed to secure vital
results.
I think of the win at Crystal Palace back in October, the back-to-back
victories against Hull and Burnley in December, the 3-0 win over Palace
again just after the Dimitri Payet situation occurred, and the crucial
triumph against Swansea in April.
The camaraderie and togetherness of the squad has really shone through when
it was most needed and that is a very encouraging sign.
Another huge positive from the game at Burnley on Sunday was a senior debut
for young Declan Rice, who came on as a late substitute. Declan has had a
terrific season as captain of Terry Westley's Under-23 PL2 team who won
promotion via the Play-Off Final at Newcastle recently.
Sunday was just the first step on a long journey for Declan, but we have
every confidence that he will continue to progress and develop, and
hopefully go on to enjoy a successful career in our first team.
This also gives me an opportunity to clarify some comments that I made on my
Twitter account earlier this week, regarding young teenage players and how
tough it is for them to break into Premier League teams now.
My point was a general observation about modern football, and the fact that
it is far more difficult for 17 and 18 year-olds to establish themselves in
top flight teams than it was maybe 20 or 30 years ago.
There is now so much pressure and scrutiny on the Premier League and, with
most sides now full of international players, clubs have to be very careful
not to heap too much on the shoulders of young players who are only just
progressing from the Academy.
The pathway now for teenage players is to go out on loan to lower division
clubs, where they can gain experience, grow stronger and more mature, and
play regular senior football without the extreme pressure that comes with
the Premier League. The hope is that they then come back and, by the age of
20 or 21, are ready to make that step up.
What I do believe is that, at West Ham, we have a group of very talented
young players who have shown great progress in recent seasons and have a
very bright future at our club. The likes of Reece Oxford, Reece Burke, Josh
Cullen, Toni Martinez and Martin Samuelsen have all gained great experience
out on loan, and I have every confidence and hope that they will break into
the first team here in the future.
The Academy is a vital part of our structure – we have put a huge amount of
care and investment into it in recent years, and nothing would give me
greater pleasure than to see the next Mark Noble come through and build a
successful career at London Stadium.
Our long-term future certainly looks bright, and I believe we can also look
forward with optimism in the short-term.
Of course, we would love to be competing in Europe next season, but after
two years of returning early from the summer break to play competitive
Europa League football in July, this year we have a full rest period and a
regular schedule before the Premier League campaign begins.
And we must take advantage of that.
It will give us an opportunity to ensure that the injured players have the
time and patience they need to recover fully in time for pre-season, and
also to bring in some new faces who can strengthen not just the squad, but
the actual first choice starting XI.
Talking of recovery, I would like to wish Slaven a speedy return to action
after he underwent hip surgery this week. We look forward to seeing him back
on his feet very soon and raring to go for next season.
Finally, I would like to finish by thanking all of our supporters for your
passionate and loyal backing throughout our momentous first season at London
Stadium.
Once again, the support has been magnificent, both at home and particularly
away – I must give a special mention to those who spend a lot of money and
time following us all around the country. The support up at Burnley on
Sunday was phenomenal again, and always makes me feel so proud.
We look forward to 2017/18 with great hope and optimism. Season Ticket
renewal figures are already at a record level, which is testament to our
magnificent supporters, and I can promise you that everyone at the football
club will be doing all we can to reward that faith next season.

Rice – I'm loving Ireland experience

It has been a whirlwind few days for West Ham United youngster Declan Rice.
Fresh from making his Premier League debut as a late substitute in Sunday's
2-1 victory at Burnley, the 18-year-old defender received a phone call from
Martin O'Neill inviting him to Ireland's training camp ahead of their June
fixtures against Mexico, Uruguay and Austria.
Fast forward to Thursday and Rice was lining up on the training pitch
alongside the likes of experienced internationals Wes Hoolahan, Richard
Keogh and Daryl Murphy at the Boys In Green's camp at Fota Island near Cork.
The Academy starlet admits he is struggling to take it all in but is making
the most of the opportunity handed to him.
He explained: "It was a dream come true, firstly to make my Premier League
debut on Sunday – it's something I've wanted to do since I was a kid – so to
then get the call from Martin [O'Neill] to say I'm going to come in for
three days and train is a great experience.
"I couldn't believe it when the call came, I was with my dad and he couldn't
believe it either. My family are so proud."
Rice's progress has been rapid, from picking up the FAI Under-17
International Player of the Year award, starring as the Under-19s reached
the Elite Round of qualifiers for the UEFA U19 Championship, captaining the
Hammers' Premier League 2 side to promotion, and being named the Young
Hammer of the Year – all since March.
He added: "It started off with the Under-17s, going really well, and to be
honest last year I didn't think it would have gone this well to get the call
to come in [and train with the seniors].
"After I got back from the Under-19s qualifiers earlier this year, Slaven
Bilic pulled me as he was coming out of a press conference and just said to
me he had people out there watching and that I'd done really well.
"I was shocked to be honest, as I didn't know [he'd be watching], but you've
always got to play well when you put the Irish shirt on because you know
there's people who want to take that jersey off you.
"I've really enjoyed training with the senior team. The sessions have been
really good and the lads have taken to me.
"Darren Randolph said to me to be my own self and train like I do at West
Ham and I'd be fine. He said the lads would talk to me and make me feel
welcome."

THE SUMMER TRANSFER WINDOW IS HERE AND THE AGENTS ARE AT PLAY

Sunday's win at Burnley was like a relative dying. You could say a hundred
terrible things about them, but being at their funeral you only bring up the
good moments of their life. Same with West Ham. You talk of the beautiful
passages of football played by West Ham at Turf Moor on Sunday, choosing to
ignore the many poor performances throughout the season. However, the
Liverpool result apart, we have seen enough during the last few matches of
the season to suggest that better day's lay ahead next season.
One of the big pluses about next season is that we don't have to play the
ridiculous qualifying matches to get into The Europa League proper. That had
a hugely negative impact on our season. When you are playing competitive
matches in July, you don't get to have a proper pre-season. That leads to
player fatigue and injuries, and likely contributed to us having such a
lengthy injury list
The close season is, of course, the summer transfer window! A time of spin
and more spin! You get newspapers printing every bit of transfer gossip
under the sun because it sell's newspapers! You get player agents trying to
move their player on to another club, or trying to get a better contract at
the players current home. Every move or increase for a player mean's more
money for an agent.
Two typical example's spring to mind.
Two stories have appeared in the media. One regarding Jermain Defoe, and the
other regarding our own Andre Ayew. According to reports, Bournemouth
Football Club have offered Defoe a two year deal on £115,000 per week and a
signing on fee of SIX MILLION! Pigs would fly the day that happened! No
disrespect to Bournemouth FC, a great Football Club who play attractive
football under Eddie Howe. A man I would not mind seeing at The London
Stadium in time.
Bournemouth have twice been close to going bust. As a result they are very
careful with money. It could also cause disharmony in the dressing room
between Defoe and the other Bournemouth players, who would not be on
anywhere near that amount of dough. Defoe may well still land up at
Bournemouth …if West Ham don't want him. By leaking the proposed 'deal'
Defoe's agent hopes to achieve two things. One, obviously to get Defoe the
best deal possible. Two, to force the likes of West Ham to conclude a deal
as quick as possible. He obviously does not know Messrs Gold and Sullivan.
The problem with Defoe is he lacks the pace to get behind defences now. So I
would not be in the least bit surprised if The Club's interest in the player
has cooled. We have also heard Andre Ayew's Father tell the media that the
player would be 'interested' in returning to Marseille. That is normally a
tactic player's use when trying to get an increase. No chance.
No doubt David Sullivan will be dealing with a lot of agents this summer.
The pressure is on The Board following last summer's fiasco. Many fans have
already turned on Gold, Sullivan and Brady and another bad window could
cause deep trouble.
What do I expect this time round? Same as usual. A marquee player, two more
for decent money, an expensive loan, a loan with an option to buy, a
freebie, and a couple of cheapies. Same as usual then, right Fareham?
No.
Many have seen me taunt them about freebies, cheapies and loans. A lot have
said to me that I was right all along. That is NOT strictly true. Sullivan
has caught me flat footed once or twice. One such an occasion was when Big
Sam wanted Andy Carroll and Matt Jarvis. I was writing for Sam Hewitt at We
Love You West Ham at the time and I wrote a hell of a post regarding Gold
and Sullivan. Christ on a bike man! I really went for them! I said there was
more chance of Jesus walking on The Thames than Andy Carroll and Matt Jarvis
signing for West Ham. I sent the article across to Sam to be posted.
Sam got back to me and said "Fareham! You have gone to town on The Owners! I
will post it but maybe we should wait a bit in case things change?" He
admitted that he thought it unlikely to happen. I laughed and agreed.
Within two weeks Matt Jarvis and Andy Carroll were Hammers. I was ABSOLUTELY

I told everybody the whole of last summer that there was NO chance they
would sign Carlos Bacca. Which they didn't of course. However, at one stage
I thought I would have had to back track in my opinion. If they had
offloaded Diafra Sakho to West Brom, there would have been no Zaza. But
Carlos Bacca, along with Andre Ayew, would have been donning The Claret and
Blue. Whether we like it or not there is no argument that The Owners can
step up to the plate if they want to. Twenty four years in the game most
certainly gives them an advantage when dealing with most agents. First deal
concluded? Looks like Pablo Zabaleta on a free. He's a real leader and a
bloody good signing! Remember. Only a few season's back we were signing
Walter Lopez on loan!

Slaven Bilic says he has a list of players he'd like to sign in the summer -
and believes the club have made a positive start to their recruitment
programme.
Speaking in an interview for West Ham's website, Bilic - who is set to
undergo a hip operation shortly - revealed that he is seeking to strengthen
his first team in several areas, whilst admitting that some players may
leave in order to make room for new arrivals.
"We know in what positions we'd like to improve the team - we have a list of
players," he revealed. "It's not very easy to get them, but it's looking
positive so far.
"We need quality players. Of course, you always need quality players, but
sometimes you are buying players for the future and sometimes you are buying
squad players to act as back-up. We are good in that department. "Some
players may go to refresh the team with some new players, but mainly we need
the players who are going to improve our quality and be the game-changers.
There are no guarantees in football but we need starting XI players, but
only in some positions."
And with regard to the type of player he may be seeking, Bilic admitted that
he feels the team is perhaps a little short currently of powerful, quick
players - and those with the ability to wow a crowd. "Athleticism is a very
important thing in today's football, especially in the Premier League if
we're talking about physicality," he said. "So it's going to be fit players
with stamina, with pace, definitely - and then good enough in all other
departments of football. "In some positions we are looking for physicality;
they may lack a bit of first touch and delivery. If you are talking about
midfield area, if we want something in midfield, then we would like to add a
bit more quality. "Last year [we had] a great combination with Manu and
Payet, not just for the two of them but for the whole team. The whole team
was benefiting from that link between the two of them."
Although the Hammers are yet to confirm any deals, Manchester City full back
Pablo Zabaleta is odds-on to be named as Bilic's first recruit of
pre-season.

Academy prospects Conor Coventry and Alfie Lewis have been awarded their
first professional contracts. Coventry, 17, has been at West Ham since he
was just 10 years old and has also featured for the Republic of Ireland at
Under 17 level whilst Lewis, also 17, has been a regular feature in Steve
Potts' Under 18s side this year. "I've worked for this for a long time so
yes, I'm really happy to sign the deal," Coventry told whufc.com. "It's good
to finally get a pro contract and see if I can kick on again from this."
Meanwhile Lewis was equally delighted. "This is the contract you always
want," he said. "I've done my scholarship and now I'm on my pro deal, so I'm
looking forward to it."
Academy Director Terry Westley, who will oversee both players' careers as
Academy Director feels that both could go a long way in the game. "Alfie's a
boy we think a lot of, and he's gifted on the ball," he said. "He still has
an awful lot to come. It's not like he's an early developer; he has plenty
more development in him and he deserves his professional contract. Slaven
has brought him over for training sometimes and he's been with the U23 group
this season. You can see that progression." And as for Coventry, he added:
"Conor is a lad we think a lot of and is a very gifted player. He has an
awful lot to come."

Jonathan Calleri, Gokhan Tore and Alvaro Arbeloa will all leave West Ham
this summer, the Premier League club has confirmed. Calleri joined the
Hammers on loan from Deportivo Maldonado last summer and made a total of 19
appearances for Slaven Bilic's side. But the 23-year-old scored just one
goal - a deflected strike against Middlesbrough - and has not been offered a
permanent deal. Tore also failed to impress during a season-long loan spell
and will return to parent club Besiktas after making just eight appearances
for the east Londoners.
Alvaro Arbeloa's arrival on a one-year deal was heralded as a coup but the
World Cup winner endured an injury-hit campaign at the London Stadium. The
right-back made just four appearances and will become a free agent when his
current contract expires on June 30.
The majority of last year's signings failed to make a significant impact
under Bilic and the Croatian is expected to strengthen his squad again this
summer as the club attempt to build on their recent 11th place finish.
Meanwhile, academy graduates Moses Makasi and Noha Sylvestre have penned new
one-year deals while the club has exercised an option to extend Alex Pike's
contract for a further year.
Sam Howes, Sam Ford, Kyle Knoyle and Sam Westley will all depart after
failing to earn new contracts.

Departing Bradford City loanee Josh Cullen has backed the Bantams to build
on an encouraging 2016/2017 season. Cullen will return to parent club West
Ham United after a hugely successful campaign with City for the 21 year-old.
After coming back to the club for a second loan spell last August, Cullen
helped the Bantams to the Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final. The talented
midfielder also picked up the Players' Player of the Year award. As the
fans' favourite returns south, Cullen was keen to pass on his thanks to all
those who had made his time at the Northern Commercials Stadium such an
enjoyable part of his career. Cullen said: "I am still disappointed that the
season didn't finish how we all wanted it to last Saturday. "It was an
achievement to get the final though, and I'm sure the lads will give it a
great shot next season. "I want to thank everyone at Bradford City - the
players, staff and fans - for everything during my time at the club. "I wish
the club all the best for the future. "I couldn't have really wished for a
better club to join on loan. It is a great club with great people. "This is
a club I feel a passion for, so it is very hard to take that we couldn't get

"He's too old," some say. "He's past it," say others. Pablo Zabaleta is all
but confirmed as a West Ham signing and is expected to be unveiled as such
on Friday on a two-year deal, following his release from Manchester City
after 333 appearances. The 32-year-old is another very experienced signing,
following on from Jose Fonte's move in January from Southampton but that has
left some Hammers fans saying it's not what the club needs right now. So,
let's look at what Zabaleta will bring to the table and why he is a good
signing for the club.
Experience
That's the big one - he's won the Premier League twice and has 58 caps for
Argentina. While it may not have quite worked out for Alvaro Arbeloa (but
that's his own fault) it shouldn't be the same for Zabaleta, a consummate
professional. West Ham desperately need experience at right back, with Sam
Byram often prone to a mistake. With Zabvaleta likely to stay for only a
couple of years, he will provide solidity down that side. "Someone who can
score goals as well as create them, the Icelander is a must buy for the
Hammers this summer, and if it means them breaking their transfer record
then so be it."
He's a right back
Well, it's what West Ham needed this summer desperately and it's what Slaven
Bilic wanted to get sorted quickly. He has gone out and got a right back,
what more do you want?
A winning mentality
Look, we are not saying West Ham are going to win the league now that
Zabaleta is on board, that's ridiculous. But, he won't accept anything less
than the best of what his team mates can give. The Argentine is sued to
having success at Man City and winning lots of games, so he will bring that
to the London Stadium. West Ham won't go on the rampage next season and win
every game they play, but Zabaleta will ensure that every single player
gives 100%.
The chance to help Byram
Sam Byram will be pushed hard for his place by the Argentine, he knows it
and we all know it as well. If Zabaleta is the first choice right back - ad
you suspect he will be - Byram needs to see this as an opportunity to help
him develop as a player. He is only 22 and has plenty of miles left in the
tank. It's unlikely Byram will be let out on loan because if Zabaleta got
injured, then what? Byram needs to see the move as a positive, learn from
one of the best to play in the position and when he does move in, in two
years you think, Byram is ready to step up.
It's not just Byram, though...
Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell on the left flank will be able to learn a
thing or two from the 32-year-old, no doubt. Especially Masuaku at 23, he's
got plenty of time to develop into an even better player. Look further down
the list as well to the likes of Kyle Knoyle, who plays right back for the
Hammers PL2 squad. He could learn an enormous amount from Zabaleta. Knoyle
is already a a very talented prospect who is well thought off at the club,
it could do wonders for his future development.

The priority for the West Ham recruitment team over the next few months is
surely very simple. It is to recruit better players than we have already in
a number of different positions. Sam Byram will be none to impressed that
Pablo Zabaleta looks likely to be our first pre-season recruit, but can
anyone really deny that he wouldn't improve the quality of our first eleven.
Hardly. And that's what it's all about.
So what other positions do we need to improve on? I'd say the goalkeeping
position would be one, although it may not be the first priority. Excellent
goalkeepers are hard to come by but if we could sign Begovic, Hart or
Butland I'd certainly say they were better than either of our current
goalkeepers. It's good to see Adrian back in form, and he hasn't really put
too much of a foot wrong since his return, but given the choice of him or
Begovic, I know which one I would go for. But any of the three keepers I
have mentioned would cost relatively big money, so I am not holding my
breath on that.
In central defence we certainly need to think about bringing in one top
class defender. Jose Fonte has never looked the answer to our defensive
problems and paying £8 million for a player his age looks to be verging on
madness, given his performances since his arrival in January. Winston Reid
continue to be injury prone and James Collins isn't getting younger. Angelo
Ogbonna has played really well but is also prone to injury. Reid has played
30 games, Collins 21 and Ogbonna 19. We have Reece Oxford and Reece Burke
coming through and it's surely time one of them became a key part of the
squad. We also have Declan Rice who's emerged this season. I still think we
should be looking to bring in one top quality centre back.
At left back we are well covered with Cresswell and Masuaku, who to me has
been a brilliant addition to the squad.
In central midfield we are also well served with Kouyate, Obiang, Noble and
Fernandes. I suspect Nordtveit will be sold, but given Josh Cullen's season
at Bradford he is quite capable of stepping up to the plate.
Out wide it is certainly the truth that Feghouli, Snodgrass and Ayew have
all been disappointments to one degree or another. Michaeil Antonio is
rightly our player of the season and Lanzini has run him close, but again, a
top quality wide player ought to be a must. If it were down to me I'd sell
Feghouli, Snodgrass and Ayew and invest the money in one world class player.
Up front it all depends on who we sell. It would not surprise me if Carroll
were sold to Newcastle and it may be that Sakho demands to go (again), but
both their injury records are horrific. Hopefully we can offload Valencia,
and Calleri has already gone. Ashley Fletcher hasn't broken through, despite
appearing very bright whenever he has come on. There's no doubt we have been
very short of quality up front and we certainly need one marquee striker to
come in. Hopefully that will be Batshuayi, but I wouldn't bet my mortgage on
it.
So, a goalkeeper, a right back, a central defender, a winger and a striker
(or two). I reckon we need to spend at least £80 million.

West Ham could raid relegated clubs and strengthen their spine this summer

Slaven Bilic could strengthen the spine of his team considerably by picking
off three players from relegated duo Sunderland and Hull City. The Hammers
have endured a difficult second season under Bilic but managed to finish
11th despite flirting with relegation at various stages. Injuries, upheaval
as a result of the move to the Olympic Stadium, the Dimitri Payet saga and
poor recruitment made life difficult for the much-loved Croatian. And he and
co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold know they cannot afford to make the
same mistakes again this summer. Speculation has been rife over possible
transfer targets already. And while Bilic will undoubtedly be scouring
Europe for top talent, there are a number of players from the relegated
Black Cats and Tigers who could improve the Hammers and help strengthen
their spine considerably.
Jordan Pickford
The hugely impressive Sunderland 'keeper could be a target for a number of
clubs with the likes of Everton also said to be keen. But the Hammers
desperately need to address their goalkeeping situation with neither Adrian
or Darren Randolph nailing down the number one spot this season. Reports
claim Pickford could be available for £15 million from the Black Cats and
West Ham would represent a step up for the young star.
Harry Maguire
After Hull's demotion to the Championship this most saleable and desirable
asset is undoubtedly Harry Maguire. The 24-year-old has been superb for the
Tigers and is a rare breed of centre back who can operate at full back and
is comfortable with the ball at his feet. West Ham would need to beat off
competition from the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle and even Chelsea if reports
are to be believed but he would also be another Englishman in the Hammers
ranks, something Bilic has publicly stated he is keen on.

Flying Poland winger Kamil Grosicki has got his career back on track at Hull
after off the field problems. And he has been a revelation since signing a
three and a half year deal back in January. His influence was central to
Marco Silva's excellent run as he came close to keeping Hull up against the
odds. In the end it wasn't enough to save the Tigers, though, and having
proved himself in the top flight the 28-year-old would be just the kind of
pacey assist machine West Ham need and looks a much better bet than Sofiane
Feghouli and Robert Snodgrass.

West Ham are thought to be considering a swap deal with Inter Milan in order
to secure the services of Italian striker Eder this summer.
The 30-year-old (who is not the Portuguese international who scored the
winning goal in the Euro 2016 final) has been deemed surplus to requirements
at the San Siro after six league goals this season, and would be allowed to
join the Hammers in exchange for Arthur Masuaku, according to
Calciomercato.com.
Slaven Bilic has apparently given up the chase for Liverpool striker Daniel
Sturridge and is now exploring some other options, and may be willing to let
Masuaku depart. The French fullback made just 11 league starts for the
Hammers this season after joining from Olympiakos for £6.2m in August but
finished the season relatively strongly in Aaron Cresswell's absence. But at
just 23-years-old and with three years remaining on his current deal,
Masuaku carries more obvious long-term upside than the 30-year-old Eder.

the signing of Manchester United defender Guillermo Varela.
Varela, 24, has spent the entire season on loan with Bundesliga outfit
Eintracht Frankfurt, with the German club ready to make the deal permanent
even though he has only made 10 appearances in Germany. Board member Fredi
Bobic revealed on Frankfurt's official website that the Uruguayan went
against club wishes to get a tattoo, which has now got infected and ruled
him out of the German Cup final against Borussia Dortmund. Now suspended,

The duo have been plagued with constant injury problems throughout the
season, leaving the likes of Michail Antonio, Havard Nordtveit and Cheikhou
Kouyate to fill in at right-back on numerous occasions. Bringing in
reinforcements at right-back would prove crucial in aiding Bilic's side next
time around, and Varela would more than do that. Arbeloa's current deal is
now set to expire in just over a month, while former Leeds ace Byram's
displays have been short of convincing. With the Hammers known to chop and
change between 4-2-3-1 and a system that uses wing-backs, a right-back who
gets forward is key and Varela provides just that.
Contract situation at Old Trafford
With only 12 months left on his current deal at Old Trafford, Varela could
be allowed to leave on the cheap this summer as United look to avoid losing
him on a free transfer next season. Bilic may not be trusted with a huge
amount to spend in the transfer window, after a number of poor signings in
the summer of 2016 including the likes of Arbeloa, Nordtveit, Simone Zaza
and Gokhan Tore. If a cut-price deal can be struck for Varela, then Bilic
would be able to save the majority of his transfer budget to improve other
areas of his squad.
Premier League potential
Varela has made just four Premier League appearances during his career,
after moving to Old Trafford back in the summer of 2013. The Uruguay
Under-20 international showed no fear and raw talent as he went up against
West Ham, Bournemouth, Arsenal and Watford during 2015-16. Able to get
forward and throw cross into the box, showing a combative nature and willing
to put his body on the line, Varela could be an untapped gem that Premier
League bosses have overlooked

successive days to sign his first professional contract with West Ham

Promising midfielder Conor Coventry has signed his first professional
contract with West Ham United. The 17-year-old, who has been with the Club
since he was ten, is un U18 regular and also represents the Republic of
Ireland at U17 youth level. Coventry made 21 appearances for Steve Potts and
Mark Phillips' Academy of Football side this season, helping the outfit
qualify for the upper tier of the U18 Premier League earlier this year. The
central-midfielder also made two appearances for the U23 side, scoring on
his London Stadium debut in February's 2-0 victory over Fulham. And securing
his first professional deal was a proud moment for the youngster.
"It's really good for me and my family," he said. "I've worked for this for
a long time so yes, I'm really happy to sign the deal.
"I've been at the Club since I was ten, so it's good to finally get a pro
contract and see if I can kick on again from this. "[This season] has been
good. I've just tried to work hard and firstly get myself in the U18s team
and then get a few appearances for the 23s. I've done what I set out to do
and overall I'm happy. "It was a good moment [to score my first goal for the
23s]. It gave me an incentive to try and get back in the team and try and
add more goals to my game. I want to try and improve that and add more goals
to my game. "I think I'm a good all-round midfielder and I like to tackle
pass and do a bit of everything. I just try to make sure I'm good in all
areas of the pitch and my game."
Academy Director Terry Westley thinks Coventry can develop even further next
season with the fantastic games' programme the Academy look forward to next
season. "The U23s will play the likes of Man United, City, Liverpool,
Everton, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, so it's great for the Academy," Westley
said. "It's a great games programme we have next season. "They're good
fixtures for 23s players, especially if you're an U18 like Conor is. Conor
has been over to Rush Green to train with the first team and he's been with
the U23 group this year too, so you can see that progression. "I think to
have that plan about what you're going to do with a player is important. If
you're sitting down with the player and the player's parents and he's a top,
young player, you want to see there's progression for them. "Conor is a lad
we think a lot of, and very gifted player with the ball and he has an awful
lot to come."
Coventry has made six appearances for Ireland's U17s in total, winning every
one of the games and starting five. And the youngster is keen to continue
his encouraging progress with international football. "I love [playing for
Ireland] because it's playing for your country and there's nothing really
like that," he continued. "It's great to get the experience of playing
against teams from all over the world, different styles of play, and I think
it's proved to be good for my development. "You get to see what different
players are going to do against you and how different teams will set up
against you. In the Premier League, there's a lot of different nationalities
so it's a good learning curve for the future if I get to play at that
level."

Cresswell called-up for two big England fixtures

Aaron Cresswell has been called-up by England for two mouth-watering
fixtures in June. Gareth Southgate has included the West Ham United
left-back in his squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier with Scotland
in Glasgow on Saturday 10 June and friendly international with France in
Paris on Tuesday 13 June. The Hammers No3 will hope to add to the cap he was
awarded when he made his senior England debut against Spain at Wembley last
November. Speaking then, Cresswell said playing for his country was
something he had dreamt of doing since he first started playing football as
a boy in his home city of Liverpool. "I was obviously delighted, as it is a
dream come true," he told whufc.com. "Ever since I started playing football
as a little boy, this is what I wanted to do, and to do it at Wembley in
front of 84,000 fans, I can't speak any higher of it. "It is something I've
always wanted to do and I've achieved it."
After overcoming a knee injury caused by a poorly-timed challenge in
pre-season, the 27-year-old regained full fitness and totalled 29 first-team
appearances in the Premier League, EFL Cup and Emirates FA Cup in 2016/17.
Cresswell could come up against two very familiar faces should he feature in
England's two upcoming fixtures.
Current West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass has been included in the Scotland
squad for their vital UEFA qualifying Group F meeting with the Auld Enemy at
Hampden Park. Fourth-place Scotland go into their clash on seven points,
while unbeaten England lead Group F on 13 points. Slovakia and Slovenia sit
between the two on nine and eight points respectively, all from five
qualifying matches played.
The Scotland fixture will kick-off at 5pm and be screened live in the UK by
both ITV and Sky Sports.
Then, Cresswell could face former West Ham teammate Dimitri Payet at the
Stade de France, as his fellow one-time Hammer of the Year has been selected
in Didier Deschamps' squad for the match. The France fixture will be
screened live by ITV, with kick-off at 8pm.

of the 2016/17 campaign on loan in National League South with Bishops

Knoyle, 20, made his one and only Hammers appearance in the UEFA Europa
League third qualifying round second leg defeat by Astra Giurgiu in Romania
in August 2015. The Newham-born player was later loaned to Scottish club
Dundee United, where he reached the 2016 Scottish Cup semi-finals. Knoyle
spent part of the 2016/17 season on loan at Championship side Wigan
Athletic. Finally, defender Westley, 23, joined the Hammers from Stoke City
in July 2014 and has appeared regularly for the Club's U21 and U23 sides.
Westley also spent the 2015/16 season on loan with Dutch club VVV-Venlo,
making his first-team debut in a Jupiler League victory over FC Den Bosch in
April 2016.

incessant pressure of being a Premier League manager over the next few
weeks. After ten months of near non-stop action, the Hammers' season ended
with victory at Burnley and an eleventh-place finish on Sunday. Bilic will
now undergo surgery on a long-standing hip problem before heading back to
his native Croatia to spend time with his family - but his mobile phone will
remain switched on (almost) all the time as the Club looks to bring in
quality signings this summer. In the first of a three-part West Ham TV Iron
Works interview, the boss identified the attributes he is looking for in
potential new recruits, his own summer plans and why a new playmaker will
help Manuel Lanzini to flourish...
What will you do this summer to recharge your batteries?
"I need it like everybody else. You need to rest so I'm going to rest with
family and friends back home [in Croatia] after my operation, which I'm
going to do in London. The week after I can fly back home and I'm going to
be at home, basically on crutches.
"I'm looking forward to it because it's going to be like a proper rest."
People wouldn't realise how little you see your family during the season
compared to people with 'ordinary' jobs…
"If you live in London, what is an 'ordinary' job these days? The hours that
the average workers are working, unfortunately they don't see their kids a
lot as well. "OK, it's more because you are away at the weekends but it's
that kind of a job, so I'm looking forward to spending some time with the
family." "Of course! We're not starting now, we've been talking for the
whole season, monitoring and now it's about time to do it, not necessarily
in a couple of weeks but until the finish, until the end of the transfer
window. "We know what positions we want to improve the team. We have a list
of the players but it's not very easy to get them, you know. It looks very
positive so far."
It's not fair to ask you about positions or names, but it's fair to ask what
type of player you would like to add to your squad – their qualities and
attributes?
"We need quality players. Of course you always need quality players but
sometimes you are buying players for the future, sometimes you are buying
players for the squad to be back-ups and all that, but we are good in that
department. "OK, we can talk about, if some of the players go, we can
refresh the team with new players, but mainly we need the players who are
going to improve the quality and be the game-changers. "There are no
guarantees in football, but we need starting XI players in certain
positions. "We want it all, but those players are very hard to get and they
cost a bit. They are pretty much the privilege of the big, big, big guns. We
have to close our eyes on some things. We can't expect them to tick all the
boxes with a mark ten.
"But athleticism is very important in today's football, especially in the
Premier League if you are talking about physicality and all that. It's got
to be fit players with stamina, with pace definitely and the of course good
enough in all other departments.
"It depends, because we are looking in a few positions. In some positions,
we are looking for physicality and they may lack a bit of first touch and
delivery, but if you are talking about midfield area, if we want something
in midfield, and I'm not saying we do because we are good there, then we
would like to add a bit more quality.
"We have legs and physicality but we would like to add a little bit more
quality to [Manuel] Lanzini, like what we had last year with Manu and
[Dimitri] Payet, which was a great combination, not just for the two of them
but for the whole team. It was great for [Aaron] Cresswell, for Mark Noble,
for [Cheikhou] Kouyate, for the strikers, for Michail Antonio, so the whole
team was benefiting from that link between the two of them."

Hello everyone,
It was a very positive finish to the season at Burnley on Sunday, when I
thought we showed great character and spirit to come from behind and take
all three points.
The last few weeks really have summed up what a roller-coaster campaign it
has been. We had that fantastic performance and result against Tottenham,
when the atmosphere at London Stadium was absolutely electrifying, followed
by a very disappointing defeat to Liverpool in our final home game, before
bouncing back on the final day at Burnley. Not only that, but we beat them
with no fewer than eight established first-team players out injured.
Our last seven matches of the season brought three wins, three draws and
just one defeat – during a period when we were beset with injuries, so I
think Slaven and the players deserve a lot of credit for showing such fight
and determination at an extremely important time.
Our aim at the start of the season was to hopefully finish close to where we
ended up last year, so there is a slight tinge of disappointment that we
were unable to do that. However, given all of the circumstances and the
issues that have confronted us this season, I think we have to say that
finishing eleventh – and just one point off eighth place – was an acceptable
outcome.
It also shows that there are such fine margins in the Premier League. You
could say that had West Brom not grabbed that last-gasp equaliser at London
Stadium in February, we would have finished in eighth place, one point ahead
of Southampton. Of course it's a big 'if', but it does show that we actually
haven't been too far away from where we want to be.
And perhaps the element of our campaign that I am most proud of is the fact
that, when times have been tough and the pressure really has been on, the
players have stepped up and shown the qualities needed to secure vital
results.
I think of the win at Crystal Palace back in October, the back-to-back
victories against Hull and Burnley in December, the 3-0 win over Palace
again just after the Dimitri Payet situation occurred, and the crucial
triumph against Swansea in April.
The camaraderie and togetherness of the squad has really shone through when
it was most needed and that is a very encouraging sign.
Another huge positive from the game at Burnley on Sunday was a senior debut
for young Declan Rice, who came on as a late substitute. Declan has had a
terrific season as captain of Terry Westley's Under-23 PL2 team who won
promotion via the Play-Off Final at Newcastle recently.
Sunday was just the first step on a long journey for Declan, but we have
every confidence that he will continue to progress and develop, and
hopefully go on to enjoy a successful career in our first team.
This also gives me an opportunity to clarify some comments that I made on my
Twitter account earlier this week, regarding young teenage players and how
tough it is for them to break into Premier League teams now.
My point was a general observation about modern football, and the fact that
it is far more difficult for 17 and 18 year-olds to establish themselves in
top flight teams than it was maybe 20 or 30 years ago.
There is now so much pressure and scrutiny on the Premier League and, with
most sides now full of international players, clubs have to be very careful
not to heap too much on the shoulders of young players who are only just
progressing from the Academy.
The pathway now for teenage players is to go out on loan to lower division
clubs, where they can gain experience, grow stronger and more mature, and
play regular senior football without the extreme pressure that comes with
the Premier League. The hope is that they then come back and, by the age of
20 or 21, are ready to make that step up.
What I do believe is that, at West Ham, we have a group of very talented
young players who have shown great progress in recent seasons and have a
very bright future at our club. The likes of Reece Oxford, Reece Burke, Josh
Cullen, Toni Martinez and Martin Samuelsen have all gained great experience
out on loan, and I have every confidence and hope that they will break into
the first team here in the future.
The Academy is a vital part of our structure – we have put a huge amount of
care and investment into it in recent years, and nothing would give me
greater pleasure than to see the next Mark Noble come through and build a
successful career at London Stadium.
Our long-term future certainly looks bright, and I believe we can also look
forward with optimism in the short-term.
Of course, we would love to be competing in Europe next season, but after
two years of returning early from the summer break to play competitive
Europa League football in July, this year we have a full rest period and a
regular schedule before the Premier League campaign begins.
And we must take advantage of that.
It will give us an opportunity to ensure that the injured players have the
time and patience they need to recover fully in time for pre-season, and
also to bring in some new faces who can strengthen not just the squad, but
the actual first choice starting XI.
Talking of recovery, I would like to wish Slaven a speedy return to action
after he underwent hip surgery this week. We look forward to seeing him back
on his feet very soon and raring to go for next season.
Finally, I would like to finish by thanking all of our supporters for your
passionate and loyal backing throughout our momentous first season at London
Stadium.
Once again, the support has been magnificent, both at home and particularly
away – I must give a special mention to those who spend a lot of money and
time following us all around the country. The support up at Burnley on
Sunday was phenomenal again, and always makes me feel so proud.
We look forward to 2017/18 with great hope and optimism. Season Ticket
renewal figures are already at a record level, which is testament to our
magnificent supporters, and I can promise you that everyone at the football
club will be doing all we can to reward that faith next season.

Rice – I'm loving Ireland experience

It has been a whirlwind few days for West Ham United youngster Declan Rice.
Fresh from making his Premier League debut as a late substitute in Sunday's
2-1 victory at Burnley, the 18-year-old defender received a phone call from
Martin O'Neill inviting him to Ireland's training camp ahead of their June
fixtures against Mexico, Uruguay and Austria.
Fast forward to Thursday and Rice was lining up on the training pitch
alongside the likes of experienced internationals Wes Hoolahan, Richard
Keogh and Daryl Murphy at the Boys In Green's camp at Fota Island near Cork.
The Academy starlet admits he is struggling to take it all in but is making
the most of the opportunity handed to him.
He explained: "It was a dream come true, firstly to make my Premier League
debut on Sunday – it's something I've wanted to do since I was a kid – so to
then get the call from Martin [O'Neill] to say I'm going to come in for
three days and train is a great experience.
"I couldn't believe it when the call came, I was with my dad and he couldn't
believe it either. My family are so proud."
Rice's progress has been rapid, from picking up the FAI Under-17
International Player of the Year award, starring as the Under-19s reached
the Elite Round of qualifiers for the UEFA U19 Championship, captaining the
Hammers' Premier League 2 side to promotion, and being named the Young
Hammer of the Year – all since March.
He added: "It started off with the Under-17s, going really well, and to be
honest last year I didn't think it would have gone this well to get the call
to come in [and train with the seniors].
"After I got back from the Under-19s qualifiers earlier this year, Slaven
Bilic pulled me as he was coming out of a press conference and just said to
me he had people out there watching and that I'd done really well.
"I was shocked to be honest, as I didn't know [he'd be watching], but you've
always got to play well when you put the Irish shirt on because you know
there's people who want to take that jersey off you.
"I've really enjoyed training with the senior team. The sessions have been
really good and the lads have taken to me.
"Darren Randolph said to me to be my own self and train like I do at West
Ham and I'd be fine. He said the lads would talk to me and make me feel
welcome."

THE SUMMER TRANSFER WINDOW IS HERE AND THE AGENTS ARE AT PLAY

Sunday's win at Burnley was like a relative dying. You could say a hundred
terrible things about them, but being at their funeral you only bring up the
good moments of their life. Same with West Ham. You talk of the beautiful
passages of football played by West Ham at Turf Moor on Sunday, choosing to
ignore the many poor performances throughout the season. However, the
Liverpool result apart, we have seen enough during the last few matches of
the season to suggest that better day's lay ahead next season.
One of the big pluses about next season is that we don't have to play the
ridiculous qualifying matches to get into The Europa League proper. That had
a hugely negative impact on our season. When you are playing competitive
matches in July, you don't get to have a proper pre-season. That leads to
player fatigue and injuries, and likely contributed to us having such a
lengthy injury list
The close season is, of course, the summer transfer window! A time of spin
and more spin! You get newspapers printing every bit of transfer gossip
under the sun because it sell's newspapers! You get player agents trying to
move their player on to another club, or trying to get a better contract at
the players current home. Every move or increase for a player mean's more
money for an agent.
Two typical example's spring to mind.
Two stories have appeared in the media. One regarding Jermain Defoe, and the
other regarding our own Andre Ayew. According to reports, Bournemouth
Football Club have offered Defoe a two year deal on £115,000 per week and a
signing on fee of SIX MILLION! Pigs would fly the day that happened! No
disrespect to Bournemouth FC, a great Football Club who play attractive
football under Eddie Howe. A man I would not mind seeing at The London
Stadium in time.
Bournemouth have twice been close to going bust. As a result they are very
careful with money. It could also cause disharmony in the dressing room
between Defoe and the other Bournemouth players, who would not be on
anywhere near that amount of dough. Defoe may well still land up at
Bournemouth …if West Ham don't want him. By leaking the proposed 'deal'
Defoe's agent hopes to achieve two things. One, obviously to get Defoe the
best deal possible. Two, to force the likes of West Ham to conclude a deal
as quick as possible. He obviously does not know Messrs Gold and Sullivan.
The problem with Defoe is he lacks the pace to get behind defences now. So I
would not be in the least bit surprised if The Club's interest in the player
has cooled. We have also heard Andre Ayew's Father tell the media that the
player would be 'interested' in returning to Marseille. That is normally a
tactic player's use when trying to get an increase. No chance.
No doubt David Sullivan will be dealing with a lot of agents this summer.
The pressure is on The Board following last summer's fiasco. Many fans have
already turned on Gold, Sullivan and Brady and another bad window could
cause deep trouble.
What do I expect this time round? Same as usual. A marquee player, two more
for decent money, an expensive loan, a loan with an option to buy, a
freebie, and a couple of cheapies. Same as usual then, right Fareham?
No.
Many have seen me taunt them about freebies, cheapies and loans. A lot have
said to me that I was right all along. That is NOT strictly true. Sullivan
has caught me flat footed once or twice. One such an occasion was when Big
Sam wanted Andy Carroll and Matt Jarvis. I was writing for Sam Hewitt at We
Love You West Ham at the time and I wrote a hell of a post regarding Gold
and Sullivan. Christ on a bike man! I really went for them! I said there was
more chance of Jesus walking on The Thames than Andy Carroll and Matt Jarvis
signing for West Ham. I sent the article across to Sam to be posted.
Sam got back to me and said "Fareham! You have gone to town on The Owners! I
will post it but maybe we should wait a bit in case things change?" He
admitted that he thought it unlikely to happen. I laughed and agreed.
Within two weeks Matt Jarvis and Andy Carroll were Hammers. I was ABSOLUTELY
gobsmacked. I did not believe that they would sign Payet or Kouyate either!
I told everybody the whole of last summer that there was NO chance they
would sign Carlos Bacca. Which they didn't of course. However, at one stage
I thought I would have had to back track in my opinion. If they had
offloaded Diafra Sakho to West Brom, there would have been no Zaza. But
Carlos Bacca, along with Andre Ayew, would have been donning The Claret and
Blue. Whether we like it or not there is no argument that The Owners can
step up to the plate if they want to. Twenty four years in the game most
certainly gives them an advantage when dealing with most agents. First deal
concluded? Looks like Pablo Zabaleta on a free. He's a real leader and a
bloody good signing! Remember. Only a few season's back we were signing
Walter Lopez on loan!

Slaven Bilic says he has a list of players he'd like to sign in the summer -
and believes the club have made a positive start to their recruitment
programme.
Speaking in an interview for West Ham's website, Bilic - who is set to
undergo a hip operation shortly - revealed that he is seeking to strengthen
his first team in several areas, whilst admitting that some players may
leave in order to make room for new arrivals.
"We know in what positions we'd like to improve the team - we have a list of
players," he revealed. "It's not very easy to get them, but it's looking
positive so far.
"We need quality players. Of course, you always need quality players, but
sometimes you are buying players for the future and sometimes you are buying
squad players to act as back-up. We are good in that department. "Some
players may go to refresh the team with some new players, but mainly we need
the players who are going to improve our quality and be the game-changers.

And with regard to the type of player he may be seeking, Bilic admitted that
he feels the team is perhaps a little short currently of powerful, quick
players - and those with the ability to wow a crowd. "Athleticism is a very

we're talking about physicality," he said. "So it's going to be fit players
with stamina, with pace, definitely - and then good enough in all other

Pro contracts for Academy duo

Academy prospects Conor Coventry and Alfie Lewis have been awarded their
first professional contracts. Coventry, 17, has been at West Ham since he
was just 10 years old and has also featured for the Republic of Ireland at
Under 17 level whilst Lewis, also 17, has been a regular feature in Steve
Potts' Under 18s side this year. "I've worked for this for a long time so
yes, I'm really happy to sign the deal," Coventry told whufc.com. "It's good
to finally get a pro contract and see if I can kick on again from this."
Meanwhile Lewis was equally delighted. "This is the contract you always
want," he said. "I've done my scholarship and now I'm on my pro deal, so I'm
looking forward to it."
Academy Director Terry Westley, who will oversee both players' careers as
Academy Director feels that both could go a long way in the game. "Alfie's a
boy we think a lot of, and he's gifted on the ball," he said. "He still has
an awful lot to come. It's not like he's an early developer; he has plenty
more development in him and he deserves his professional contract. Slaven
has brought him over for training sometimes and he's been with the U23 group
this season. You can see that progression." And as for Coventry, he added:
"Conor is a lad we think a lot of and is a very gifted player. He has an
awful lot to come."

Jonathan Calleri, Gokhan Tore and Alvaro Arbeloa to leave West Ham as Slaven

Jonathan Calleri, Gokhan Tore and Alvaro Arbeloa will all leave West Ham
this summer, the Premier League club has confirmed. Calleri joined the
Hammers on loan from Deportivo Maldonado last summer and made a total of 19
appearances for Slaven Bilic's side. But the 23-year-old scored just one
goal - a deflected strike against Middlesbrough - and has not been offered a
permanent deal. Tore also failed to impress during a season-long loan spell
and will return to parent club Besiktas after making just eight appearances
for the east Londoners.
Alvaro Arbeloa's arrival on a one-year deal was heralded as a coup but the
World Cup winner endured an injury-hit campaign at the London Stadium. The
right-back made just four appearances and will become a free agent when his
current contract expires on June 30.
The majority of last year's signings failed to make a significant impact
under Bilic and the Croatian is expected to strengthen his squad again this
summer as the club attempt to build on their recent 11th place finish.
Meanwhile, academy graduates Moses Makasi and Noha Sylvestre have penned new
one-year deals while the club has exercised an option to extend Alex Pike's
contract for a further year.
Sam Howes, Sam Ford, Kyle Knoyle and Sam Westley will all depart after
failing to earn new contracts.

Departing Bradford City loanee Josh Cullen has backed the Bantams to build
on an encouraging 2016/2017 season. Cullen will return to parent club West
Ham United after a hugely successful campaign with City for the 21 year-old.
After coming back to the club for a second loan spell last August, Cullen
helped the Bantams to the Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final. The talented
midfielder also picked up the Players' Player of the Year award. As the
fans' favourite returns south, Cullen was keen to pass on his thanks to all
those who had made his time at the Northern Commercials Stadium such an
enjoyable part of his career. Cullen said: "I am still disappointed that the
season didn't finish how we all wanted it to last Saturday. "It was an
achievement to get the final though, and I'm sure the lads will give it a
great shot next season. "I want to thank everyone at Bradford City - the
players, staff and fans - for everything during my time at the club. "I wish
the club all the best for the future. "I couldn't have really wished for a
better club to join on loan. It is a great club with great people. "This is
a club I feel a passion for, so it is very hard to take that we couldn't get

"He's too old," some say. "He's past it," say others. Pablo Zabaleta is all
but confirmed as a West Ham signing and is expected to be unveiled as such
on Friday on a two-year deal, following his release from Manchester City
after 333 appearances. The 32-year-old is another very experienced signing,
following on from Jose Fonte's move in January from Southampton but that has
left some Hammers fans saying it's not what the club needs right now. So,
let's look at what Zabaleta will bring to the table and why he is a good
signing for the club.
Experience
That's the big one - he's won the Premier League twice and has 58 caps for
Argentina. While it may not have quite worked out for Alvaro Arbeloa (but
that's his own fault) it shouldn't be the same for Zabaleta, a consummate
professional. West Ham desperately need experience at right back, with Sam
Byram often prone to a mistake. With Zabvaleta likely to stay for only a
couple of years, he will provide solidity down that side. "Someone who can
score goals as well as create them, the Icelander is a must buy for the
Hammers this summer, and if it means them breaking their transfer record
then so be it."
He's a right back
Well, it's what West Ham needed this summer desperately and it's what Slaven
Bilic wanted to get sorted quickly. He has gone out and got a right back,
what more do you want?
A winning mentality
Look, we are not saying West Ham are going to win the league now that
Zabaleta is on board, that's ridiculous. But, he won't accept anything less
than the best of what his team mates can give. The Argentine is sued to
having success at Man City and winning lots of games, so he will bring that
to the London Stadium. West Ham won't go on the rampage next season and win
every game they play, but Zabaleta will ensure that every single player
gives 100%.
The chance to help Byram
Sam Byram will be pushed hard for his place by the Argentine, he knows it
and we all know it as well. If Zabaleta is the first choice right back - ad
you suspect he will be - Byram needs to see this as an opportunity to help
him develop as a player. He is only 22 and has plenty of miles left in the
tank. It's unlikely Byram will be let out on loan because if Zabaleta got
injured, then what? Byram needs to see the move as a positive, learn from
one of the best to play in the position and when he does move in, in two
years you think, Byram is ready to step up.
It's not just Byram, though...
Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell on the left flank will be able to learn a
thing or two from the 32-year-old, no doubt. Especially Masuaku at 23, he's
got plenty of time to develop into an even better player. Look further down
the list as well to the likes of Kyle Knoyle, who plays right back for the
Hammers PL2 squad. He could learn an enormous amount from Zabaleta. Knoyle
is already a a very talented prospect who is well thought off at the club,
it could do wonders for his future development.

QUALITY, NOT MEDIOCRITY HAS TO BE WEST HAM'S RECRUITMENT WATCHWORD

The priority for the West Ham recruitment team over the next few months is
surely very simple. It is to recruit better players than we have already in
a number of different positions. Sam Byram will be none to impressed that
Pablo Zabaleta looks likely to be our first pre-season recruit, but can
anyone really deny that he wouldn't improve the quality of our first eleven.
Hardly. And that's what it's all about.
So what other positions do we need to improve on? I'd say the goalkeeping
position would be one, although it may not be the first priority. Excellent
goalkeepers are hard to come by but if we could sign Begovic, Hart or
Butland I'd certainly say they were better than either of our current
goalkeepers. It's good to see Adrian back in form, and he hasn't really put
too much of a foot wrong since his return, but given the choice of him or
Begovic, I know which one I would go for. But any of the three keepers I
have mentioned would cost relatively big money, so I am not holding my
breath on that.
In central defence we certainly need to think about bringing in one top
class defender. Jose Fonte has never looked the answer to our defensive
problems and paying £8 million for a player his age looks to be verging on
madness, given his performances since his arrival in January. Winston Reid
continue to be injury prone and James Collins isn't getting younger. Angelo
Ogbonna has played really well but is also prone to injury. Reid has played
30 games, Collins 21 and Ogbonna 19. We have Reece Oxford and Reece Burke
coming through and it's surely time one of them became a key part of the
squad. We also have Declan Rice who's emerged this season. I still think we
should be looking to bring in one top quality centre back.
At left back we are well covered with Cresswell and Masuaku, who to me has
been a brilliant addition to the squad.
In central midfield we are also well served with Kouyate, Obiang, Noble and
Fernandes. I suspect Nordtveit will be sold, but given Josh Cullen's season
at Bradford he is quite capable of stepping up to the plate.
Out wide it is certainly the truth that Feghouli, Snodgrass and Ayew have
all been disappointments to one degree or another. Michaeil Antonio is
rightly our player of the season and Lanzini has run him close, but again, a
top quality wide player ought to be a must. If it were down to me I'd sell

Up front it all depends on who we sell. It would not surprise me if Carroll
were sold to Newcastle and it may be that Sakho demands to go (again), but
both their injury records are horrific. Hopefully we can offload Valencia,
and Calleri has already gone. Ashley Fletcher hasn't broken through, despite
appearing very bright whenever he has come on. There's no doubt we have been
very short of quality up front and we certainly need one marquee striker to
come in. Hopefully that will be Batshuayi, but I wouldn't bet my mortgage on
it.
So, a goalkeeper, a right back, a central defender, a winger and a striker
(or two). I reckon we need to spend at least £80 million.

Slaven Bilic could strengthen the spine of his team considerably by picking
off three players from relegated duo Sunderland and Hull City. The Hammers
have endured a difficult second season under Bilic but managed to finish
11th despite flirting with relegation at various stages. Injuries, upheaval
as a result of the move to the Olympic Stadium, the Dimitri Payet saga and
poor recruitment made life difficult for the much-loved Croatian. And he and
co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold know they cannot afford to make the
same mistakes again this summer. Speculation has been rife over possible
transfer targets already. And while Bilic will undoubtedly be scouring
Europe for top talent, there are a number of players from the relegated
Black Cats and Tigers who could improve the Hammers and help strengthen
their spine considerably.
Jordan Pickford
The hugely impressive Sunderland 'keeper could be a target for a number of
clubs with the likes of Everton also said to be keen. But the Hammers
desperately need to address their goalkeeping situation with neither Adrian
or Darren Randolph nailing down the number one spot this season. Reports
claim Pickford could be available for £15 million from the Black Cats and
West Ham would represent a step up for the young star.
Harry Maguire
After Hull's demotion to the Championship this most saleable and desirable
asset is undoubtedly Harry Maguire. The 24-year-old has been superb for the
Tigers and is a rare breed of centre back who can operate at full back and
is comfortable with the ball at his feet. West Ham would need to beat off
competition from the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle and even Chelsea if reports
are to be believed but he would also be another Englishman in the Hammers
ranks, something Bilic has publicly stated he is keen on.
Kamil Grosicki
Flying Poland winger Kamil Grosicki has got his career back on track at Hull
after off the field problems. And he has been a revelation since signing a
three and a half year deal back in January. His influence was central to
Marco Silva's excellent run as he came close to keeping Hull up against the
odds. In the end it wasn't enough to save the Tigers, though, and having
proved himself in the top flight the 28-year-old would be just the kind of
pacey assist machine West Ham need and looks a much better bet than Sofiane
Feghouli and Robert Snodgrass.

West Ham are thought to be considering a swap deal with Inter Milan in order
to secure the services of Italian striker Eder this summer.
The 30-year-old (who is not the Portuguese international who scored the
winning goal in the Euro 2016 final) has been deemed surplus to requirements
at the San Siro after six league goals this season, and would be allowed to
join the Hammers in exchange for Arthur Masuaku, according to
Calciomercato.com.
Slaven Bilic has apparently given up the chase for Liverpool striker Daniel
Sturridge and is now exploring some other options, and may be willing to let
Masuaku depart. The French fullback made just 11 league starts for the
Hammers this season after joining from Olympiakos for £6.2m in August but
finished the season relatively strongly in Aaron Cresswell's absence. But at
just 23-years-old and with three years remaining on his current deal,
Masuaku carries more obvious long-term upside than the 30-year-old Eder.

The duo have been plagued with constant injury problems throughout the
season, leaving the likes of Michail Antonio, Havard Nordtveit and Cheikhou
Kouyate to fill in at right-back on numerous occasions. Bringing in
reinforcements at right-back would prove crucial in aiding Bilic's side next
time around, and Varela would more than do that. Arbeloa's current deal is
now set to expire in just over a month, while former Leeds ace Byram's
displays have been short of convincing. With the Hammers known to chop and
change between 4-2-3-1 and a system that uses wing-backs, a right-back who
gets forward is key and Varela provides just that.
Contract situation at Old Trafford
With only 12 months left on his current deal at Old Trafford, Varela could
be allowed to leave on the cheap this summer as United look to avoid losing
him on a free transfer next season. Bilic may not be trusted with a huge
amount to spend in the transfer window, after a number of poor signings in
the summer of 2016 including the likes of Arbeloa, Nordtveit, Simone Zaza
and Gokhan Tore. If a cut-price deal can be struck for Varela, then Bilic
would be able to save the majority of his transfer budget to improve other
areas of his squad.
Premier League potential
Varela has made just four Premier League appearances during his career,
after moving to Old Trafford back in the summer of 2013. The Uruguay
Under-20 international showed no fear and raw talent as he went up against
West Ham, Bournemouth, Arsenal and Watford during 2015-16. Able to get
forward and throw cross into the box, showing a combative nature and willing
to put his body on the line, Varela could be an untapped gem that Premier
League bosses have overlooked

Sofiane Feghouli was delighted to score West Ham United's opener in their 2-1 win over Burnley on Sunday and admitted finding the back of the net at Turf Moor was a confidence boost. The winger equalised just before the half hour mark at the weekend, finishing off a delightful Hammers move that culminated in Andre Ayew flicking the ball neatly through for Feghouli to finish. Sam Vokes had previously given Sean Dyche's Clarets the lead minutes before but Ayew went on to score a second half winner for the Hammers to end the season on a high. Feghouli had not scored for the Hammers since his London Stadium equaliser against West Bromwich Albion in February, and was therefore thrilled to have taken his tally for the season to four on the last day. "For me to score was good for my confidence and also good for the team," the winger said. "I think we showed that we are capable of a nice style of football with lots of combination play.
"I think that we also showed our spirit. First of all, before the match, it was important to win to end on a high, so we knew that we had to give everything to leave the fans with a positive image. "For me, the fact that I was starting gave me even more motivation. To score, for me, was important, and it was a nice way to end the season."
Feghouli made 27 appearances in Claret and Blue during his first season in English football having signed from Spanish giants Valencia last summer and believes he has learned plenty over the course of the campaign. "First of all, the Premier League is a very different style of football to what I have experienced in La Liga, the Champions League and World Cups," he continued. "Unfortunately, I was affected by some physical problems earlier in the season but that's football and I'll take what I've learned this year to improve for next season. "I'd like to thank all of the West Ham supporters for the messages they've been sending me on social media. It's important for the players to know that they are supported in this way. "I'd also like to thank the Algerian fans around the world who continue to support me through the good and bad moments. I think it's very important that we say thank you to them today. Joint-Chairman and son to home Manchester attack hero

A homeless hero who rushed to the aid of the victims of the Manchester terrorist attack now has somewhere to live thanks to West Ham United Joint-Chairman David Sullivan and son Dave. The Joint-Chairman and his eldest son were moved by reports of a man named Steve, who was sleeping rough near Manchester Arena when a bomb went off at a concert being given by American singer Ariana Grande on Monday evening. Steve quickly rushed to the scene, where he tended to children hurt in the horrific incident which left 22 people dead and more than 50 injured. His selfless act was recognised by the Sullivans, with Dave taking to social media in an attempt to locate Steve and find him a home, with the offer of paying his rent for the next six months. Hours later, Steve had been found, and the Joint-Chairman and his son are now working out a plan to pay the hero's rent for the next six months, while also providing him with new clothes and opportunities to find work in the future. "Dave and myself were both hugely impressed by the bravery shown by Steve, the emergency services and all those who rushed to the aid of those affected by the Manchester attack," said the Joint-Chairman. "This was a terrible incident, but the response of the people of Manchester has been one of bravery, togetherness and resilience – the hallmarks of what makes Britain such a fantastic place. "Steve was just one of hundreds of people who forgot about their own safety and rushed to the aid of others, and we were both moved by his story."
Having located him, the Sullivans are now working with a local charity to work out how to fund a life-changing move for the hero.
"We are just trying to work out with a charity in Manchester how we pay for the accommodation for six months and give him some money for clothes and other essentials to give him as chance of getting a job and a normal life. "Dave is in touch with several charities in Manchester, so they can tell us how much money to send and we'll send it. "Steve deserves this chance to improve his own life after his selfless and heroic acts undoubtedly improved the lives of so many others."

West Ham United will aim to make it third time lucky this year in the Far East as they travel to the Hong Kong Citi Soccer Sevens tournament on 26-28 May. The Hammers have come close to winning the competition in recent years, losing to Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa in the last two finals. But coach Mark Phillips hopes the team can finally go one step further this time as the young Hammers round off another intense campaign. "We've been there the last two years and it's a very well run, professional tournament with good teams in it," he said. "It's a different sort of tournament because the teams are 7-a-side but play on an 11-a-side pitch so the lads have to do a lot of running! "On the finals day you can get a full house of around 7,000 people watching so hopefully we can get there again. "It's a very competitive tournament. We're normally the youngest team there and a lot of it is about running power."
The tournament this year will feature West Ham's fellow British clubs Aston Villa, Leicester City and Glasgow Rangers along with big European sides like Marseille and Bayer Leverkusen. The competition has grown in prestige over the last few years, due to it's unique set of rules, and Phillips believes the Hammers will have to be at their best to go one better. "This year, it will be a massive ask to get in the final with the likes of Marseille and Rangers in it. But it's great for the players to play against different styles," he continued. "We may have some players returning from loans, but we'll have to see over the coming days who will be selected. "There's a lot of West Ham supporters that live in the Far East and a lot of them come to cheer us on."

West Ham United youngster Alfie Lewis has signed his first professional contract with the Club. The 17-year-old, who has penned a three-year-deal with the Hammers, is a highly-rated central-midfielder and has been a regular starter for the U18s this season. Impressive throughout the campaign for the Academy side, Lewis also played eleven times for the U23s, including appearances in the Checkatrade Trophy against Football League sides Coventry City, Wycombe Wanderers and Northampton Town. Having signed the deal which will keep him at the Club until 2020, the hot prospect expressed his delight at putting pen to paper. He said: "It's great news. This is the contract you always want when you first join the Club. I've done my scholarship and now I'm on my pro deal, so I'm looking forward to it. "Hard works pays off, like they say. Over the years, training and playing games – it's great now I have got this deal but I can't sit back on it – I need to keep pushing on. "It's been a great season for me [this year]. The youth teams have been doing well; the U23s were promoted last week and it's been a good season. I've had a few 23s games and a lot for the 18s. "I've learnt about the physicality and the quickness of the football for the U23s, especially against the Football League teams [in the Checkatrade Trophy], and it's been a great experience for me. The games in that competition have probably been the best ones this year. "Playing against the guys at the back in those teams, it's different to what you're used to in the 23s, so it was a great experience for us."
Lewis has played much of the season under the guidance of U18s coaches Mark Phillips and former Hammer of the Year Steve Potts, and has also received plenty of feedback from tutor Liam Manning. And Academy Director Terry Westley has high hopes for the midfielder, who he believes is still yet to develop fully and improve. "He's a boy we think a lot of, and he's gifted on the ball – he still has an awful lot to come," Westley claimed. "It's not like he's an early developer; he has plenty more development in him and he deserves his professional contract. "Slaven [Bilic] has brought him over for training sometimes and he's been with the U23 group this season. You can see that progression. "This season, with Domingos Quina, Nathan Trott signing pro deals, and with Reece Burke and Reece Oxford up there, Alfie follows in that tradition of us giving contracts over a longer period of time so we have a chance to develop him."
And Lewis, who describes himself as a player who likes to "get on the ball and create things", hopes to follow in the footsteps of those mentioned by Westley. The youngster continued: "It's really important to know that the Club want to push the players through from the Academy, and you know that you've got a chance if you keep doing things right, and you'll get the opportunity. "Hopefully I can follow in their footsteps. [Also players on loan this season] have done really well, and I've watched a few of their games. The leagues that they're playing in are not easy, so it's great. "Hopefully next year I'll push on and play more games for the 23s, train with the first team even more as well. I've trained about five times this season, and it's great to come over and see what they're doing. It's good."

Ahead of the Season Ticket relocation period, which will take place in the first two weeks of June, the Club would like to confirm the process for renewing Season Ticket Holders who are looking at the possibility of relocating their seat for the 2017/18 campaign.
Firstly, we would like to thank those supporters who have already renewed, for their continued support.
The Club has received a record number of renewals to date, with a week still to go until the deadline. As we have always stressed, supporters wishing to retain their existing seat when renewing of course have the right to do so, therefore please be advised that seat relocations are strictly subject to availability.
If you wish to relocate your seat, first and foremost you must have renewed your existing seat by the renewal deadline of Wednesday 31 May.
For renewing Season Ticket Holders, seat relocations will be prioritised by how early you renewed, which the Ticket Office hold a record of.
As previously explained, there are some priority cases where exceptional circumstances exist, such as accessibility requirements and a group of supporters who had to move out of Block 114 in order to increase the size of the segregation line.
If you wish to relocate your seat for the 2017/18 season, you must complete this online form by 9am on Monday 29 May. This will allow us to allocate you a relocation window in line with when you renewed. You will receive an email notification of your relocation window when you can call the Ticket Office.
The relocation phase will be a busy period for the Club and we would therefore ask that you only contact us once your window has opened. Supporters calling earlier will be politely requested to call back at their designated time.

Josh Cullen says he'll be pushing for a place in Slaven Bilic's first team squad this summer. The 21-year-old midfielder ended his season with a trip to Wembley in the League One play-off final last weekend, although it was to prove a disappointing finale to the campaign as Bradford were beaten 1-0 by Millwall. However it's a place in Bilic's team that Cullen has his eyes firmly set upon, following a fantastic season on loan at Valley Parade. "The whole process of me coming out on loan is to try and get in West Ham's first team," Cullen told the Yorkshire Post. "I am still in a position to do that when I go back in the summer in pre-season. We will have the discussions and see what needs to be done. Hopefully, I will be in West Ham's plans. "If not, then a Championship club is probably the next step for me. There are discussions to be had and we will see where we go."
Cullen ended the 2016/17 campaign as Bradford's Player of the Year - and believes he couldn't have chosen a better club at which to spend a season on loan.
"Bradford is a really great club with great people," he added. "I wanted to come back for a second spell to try and get us promoted. We have got one step closer than last year, but just come up short again. "It is a club I really felt the passion to play for. It has been a tough time, the first time I have been away from home for a permanent period of time. But everyone has been brilliant to me. "

West Ham full back Arthur Masuaku is being linked with a move to Serie A as part of a swap deal. According to sources in Italy, Milan's Inter are pondering making a move for the 23-year-old left back who moved to West Ham a year ago this summer in a £6million switch from Olympiakos. And it is further suggested that they will be looking to include Italian international Eder in a potential swap deal; the 30-year-old forward is thought to be surplus to requirements at the San Siro despite having joined the former European giants just 17 months ago.
* Staying in Italy, and fellow Serie A side Bologna are said to be keeping a close eye on West Ham's central defender Angelo Ogbonna.
The 29-year-old, who has recently recovered from major surgery is said to be keen to secure a spot in Italy's squad for next summer's World Cup Finals and is therefore considering a move in order to secure first team football. However Bologna are unlikely to be able to meet West Ham's asking fee, with Ogbonna - who cost West Ham in the region of €11million back in 2015 - thought to be valued around the £10million mark. A loan move have been mooted by some sources, although that possibility is unlike to tempt the Hammers who are only interested in a permanent deal.

West Ham co-owner David Sullivan has got in touch with the homeless man who helped victims in the aftermath of Monday night's at at the Manchester Arena after offering to reward him for his actions. Stephen Jones was sleeping rough close to the city centre when the explosion which killed 22 and injured more than 60 people took place. After realising what had happened he rushed to the aid of those hurt in the blast, giving an emotional account of the scenes to ITV News .
Upon hearing this account, Hammers chief Sullivan pledged to offer shelter and money to the 35-year-old. "It looks like he needs some help, so we are desperate to find who he is and give him six months free accommodation and a little bit of money to help him on his way," he told BBC Radio 5 live on Tuesday night.
Sullivan's son Dave has since taken to Twitter to reveal that they have managed to make contact with Jones. "We found Steve!," he tweeted. "Shows the power for good social media has. Thank you to all those involved, you have helped change a mans life [sic]." West Ham have confirmed that the Sullivans are working alongside a local charity to ensure that Jones is given accommodation. "Dave and myself were both hugely impressed by the bravery shown by Steve, the emergency services and all those who rushed to the aid of those affected by the Manchester attack," the Hammers' co-owner told their official website. "We were having to pull nails and bits of glass out of their arms and faces," he said, as he recalls seeing "lifeless" bodies of children on the floor, next to their "hysterical" mothers. He continued: "Just because I'm homeless, doesn't mean that I haven't got a heart and I'm not human still. "They needed help and I like to think that someone would come and help me if I needed it. "It's just instinct to go and help and it was children and it was a lot of children with blood all over them and crying and screaming. "It had to be done, you had to help them. I wouldn't have been able to live with myself for walking away and leaving kids like that."

West Ham are close to completing a deal to sign Pablo Zabaleta on a free transfer, according to Sky sources. The Argentina defender will leave Manchester City when his contract expires at the end of June and is in final negotiations over a switch to the Hammers.
Sky Sports News HQ revealed in April that West Ham were interested in bringing Zabaleta to London Stadium. If the deal goes through, the 32-year-old will become Slaven Bilic's first major signing of the summer and compete with Sam Byram for the right-back berth at West Ham. Bilic has been looking to add to his options at right-back with Alvaro Arbeloa set to depart the club in the summer following the conclusion of his one-year deal. West Ham have decided to reject a move to sign Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas on a free transfer, according to Transfer Market Web. The report also claims that London rivals Arsenal have also opted against signing the former Real Madrid stopper, because of his age and his astronomical wage demands. This comes after Spanish outlet AS claimed Premier League rivals Liverpool had reached an agreement with the 167-time Spain international to bring him to Anfield on a pre-contract agreement. Casillas, 36, is recognised as one of the world's best goalkeepers after 16 years between the sticks in Real Madrid's first team following his debut way back in 1999. The former Real captain went on to make an enormous 732 league and cup appearances for the Spanish giants, keeping 234 clean sheets in the process. The Spaniard's trophy cabinet includes triumphs such as a World Cup trophy, three Champions League victories and two European Championship successes. However, Casillas' two-year stay with Portugal has not proved to be as fruitful, failing to win a trophy and being criticised for his performances with the Portuguese giants. Porto's number one could be seeing his career beginning to enter its final stages, despite making 43 appearances during the 2016-17 campaign.
Although Slaven Bilic's side are likely to be in the summer transfer window for a new goalkeeper despite confirming a deal to keep Adrian at the London Stadium, it is believed they will look elsewhere instead of signing Casillas.

West Ham midfielder Sofiane Feghouli has vowed to improve next season after struggling to hit top form during his debut campaign in English football. Feghouli joined the Hammers on a free transfer last summer amid a large amount of fanfare, having impressed during a six-year spell at previous club at Valencia. But the 27-year-old scored just three goals in 20 Premier League appearances for Slaven Bilic's side, who finished in 11th place. The Algeria international struggled with a series of injuries and has conceded the style of football on show in England's top tier is a stark contrast to what he has experienced elsewhere. "First of all, the Premier League is a very different style of football to what I have experienced in La Liga, the Champions League and World Cups," Feghouli told West Ham's official website. "Unfortunately, I was affected by some physical problems earlier in the season but that's football and I'll take what I've learned this year to improve for next season. "I'd like to thank all of the West Ham supporters for the messages they've been sending me on social media. "It's important for the players to know that they are supported in this way," he added. The Hammers fell short of expectations this season but the club's summer transfer plans are getting underway as Bilic looks to add to his squad. West Ham are reportedly interested in a surprise summer transfer window move for Manchester United striker Anthony Martial as they look at a number of options up front. The Hammers are desperate to land a big name up front after finding that to be something of a problem position for them down the years due to repeated injury problems for Andy Carroll. Martial has shown plenty of promise since arriving in the Premier League last season, scoring 15 goals in 56 league appearances in total. However, the Frenchman only managed 18 starts for United in the season just gone, and his future seems in some doubt after apparently failing to impress Mourinho. This has reportedly alerted West Ham, with the east Londoners also looking into signing Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi or Manchester City's Kelechi Iheanacho in that area, according to Goal. It remains to be seen if United would allow a talented young player like Martial to leave at this stage, with the 21-year-old rated for some time as among the most promising youngsters in Europe. Lyon have also been linked with a loan move for Martial as he may be tempted by the offer of more regular playing time next season.

The Bradford City loanee, a class act again in his second season at the club, dejectedly trudged off the pitch following a cruel late loss to Millwall in a sad end to his footballing journey with the Bantams. Having proved himself in League One during two highly-impressive loan spells, the West Ham midfielder now has his sights set on propelling himself into the first-team picture with the Hammers in 2017-18 – or on continuing his career development in the Championship in a third loan. Either way, Saturday's events mean that it is unlikely that he will don the claret-and-amber jersey again, any time soon. But his gratitude for his time at City is heartfelt and considerable. Cullen, 21, told The Yorkshire Post: "The whole process of me coming out on loan is to try and get in West Ham's first team. I am still in a position to do that when I go back in the summer in pre-season. We will have the discussions and see what needs to be done. "Hopefully, I will be in West Ham's plans. But if not, then a Championship club is probably the next step for me. There are discussions to be had and we will see where we go. "I could not have really wished for a better club to come on loan to. It (Bradford) is a really great club with great people and I wanted to come back for a second spell to try and get us promoted. We have got one step closer than last year, but just come up short again. "It is a club I really felt the passion to play for. It is a tough one to take and we will have to come again."
On his sense of personal disappointment, Cullen, watched from the stands by a number of family members and friends who made the short trip from Essex to cheer him on, added: "I had a lot of family and friends here and my girlfriend and everyone has been brilliant to me because it has been a tough time; the first time I have been away from home for a permanent period of time. "It was nice to have them at the final and I would have loved to have won it for them as well as ourselves. We have come up a bit short."
Saturday may have represented the end of Cullen's Bantams' story, for the time being at any rate, but the schemer believes that the club have every chance of going that one step further next season by securing a cherished promotion back to the second tier after two near-misses. His belief is fortified by the sight of a Bradford squad coming together in outstanding fashion after some early-summer upheaval following the exit of Phil Parkinson. Cullen added: "After the end of last season, there was an overhaul of staff and players and I think there were only nine or 10 players left in the squad. "To build a new squad together and go as far as we have done is a pleasing achievement. The expectations at the start of the season have probably been exceeded. Next season, I am sure the lads will go again and give it a great shout. "Everyone has got to move on now and I've got to in my career. All the lads will bring the club forward, I am sure. "It will be another tough season. It is such a disappointment as it's such a long season and you work so hard to get here and are 90 minutes away from getting promoted. But with the quality and togetherness in that dressing room, I am sure the lads will be right up there."

West Ham are bracing themselves for a summer fight with Marseille for another of their top stars — £20million record-signing Andre Ayew.
The Hammers sold midfielder Dimitri Payet back to the French club in January and they are now interested in Ayew, another of their former players. The Ghana international signed for the Hammers last August and promptly got injured in his first Premier League appearance. He returned two months later but, despite scoring eight times this season, has never really rediscovered the form that persuaded them to sign him from Swansea. West Ham are hopeful that will come next season, but new Marseille owner Frank McCourt is staging a massive overhaul of his club's squad this summer ahead of a push for the French title and Champions League qualification.
Having re-signed Payet in January 18 months after selling him, the American businessman now has a string of other ambitious Premier League stars in his sights, also including Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud at Arsenal, Crystal Palace's Yohan Cabaye and Riyad Mahrez at Leicester.
Marseille watched Ayew join Swansea on a Bosman in summer 2015. He scored 12 times in 35 appearances for the Welsh club before becoming the Hammers' record signing. Meanwhile, West Ham's director of player recruitment Tony Henry has claimed they need a "maximum" of three signings this summer. Manchester City stalwart Pablo Zabaleta is set to become the club's first capture, in an attempt to solve their problems at right-back. Despite the criticism that their new London Stadium home has had over the past year, Henry believes the prospect of playing there remains a draw for potential signings. He added: "London is a massive thing for players, but obviously the new stadium, players come and they love it. "I remember when we bought Jose Fonte in in January, he just said the stadium was brilliant.When he played for Southampton here, he said he thought it was fantastic. It's a massive pull."

West Ham co-owner David Sullivan and his son, David Sullivan Jr, have committed to paying for six months of accommodation for a homeless man who assisted victims of a bomb in Manchester on Monday night. An explosion killed 22 people and injured 120 others at an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena. In the immediate aftermath, a homeless man by the name of Steve was reported to have assisted the victims of the blast. "Just because I'm homeless it doesn't mean that I haven't got a heart and I'm not human still," Steve told ITV News on Tuesday. "They needed the help. I'd like to think that someone would come and help me if I needed the help. It's just instinct to go and help, if someone needed your help."
Steve's interview struck a chord with many watching at home, and the son of the Hammers co-owner was one of them to understand Steve's words and feel a desire to help. Shortly after the clip aired, Sullivan Jr began a social media campaign in an effort to track down Steve and provide him with somewhere to live for six months. Eventually, after a few hours of searching and with the assistance of some local charities, they were able to track down Steve and reward him for his selfless act. Let's hope he can get back on his feet and that we can all follow his example.

Sofiane Feghouli was delighted to score West Ham United's opener in their 2-1 win over Burnley on Sunday and admitted finding the back of the net at Turf Moor was a confidence boost. The winger equalised just before the half hour mark at the weekend, finishing off a delightful Hammers move that culminated in Andre Ayew flicking the ball neatly through for Feghouli to finish. Sam Vokes had previously given Sean Dyche's Clarets the lead minutes before but Ayew went on to score a second half winner for the Hammers to end the season on a high. Feghouli had not scored for the Hammers since his London Stadium equaliser against West Bromwich Albion in February, and was therefore thrilled to have taken his tally for the season to four on the last day. "For me to score was good for my confidence and also good for the team," the winger said. "I think we showed that we are capable of a nice style of football with lots of combination play.
"I think that we also showed our spirit. First of all, before the match, it was important to win to end on a high, so we knew that we had to give everything to leave the fans with a positive image. "For me, the fact that I was starting gave me even more motivation. To score, for me, was important, and it was a nice way to end the season."
Feghouli made 27 appearances in Claret and Blue during his first season in English football having signed from Spanish giants Valencia last summer and believes he has learned plenty over the course of the campaign. A homeless hero who rushed to the aid of the victims of the Manchester terrorist attack now has somewhere to live thanks to West Ham United Joint-Chairman David Sullivan and son Dave. The Joint-Chairman and his eldest son were moved by reports of a man named Steve, who was sleeping rough near Manchester Arena when a bomb went off at a concert being given by American singer Ariana Grande on Monday evening. Steve quickly rushed to the scene, where he tended to children hurt in the horrific incident which left 22 people dead and more than 50 injured. His selfless act was recognised by the Sullivans, with Dave taking to social media in an attempt to locate Steve and find him a home, with the offer of paying his rent for the next six months. Hours later, Steve had been found, and the Joint-Chairman and his son are now working out a plan to pay the hero's rent for the next six months, while also providing him with new clothes and opportunities to find work in the future. "Dave and myself were both hugely impressed by the bravery shown by Steve, the emergency services and all those who rushed to the aid of those affected by the Manchester attack," said the Joint-Chairman. "This was a terrible incident, but the response of the people of Manchester has been one of bravery, togetherness and resilience – the hallmarks of what makes Britain such a fantastic place. "Steve was just one of hundreds of people who forgot about their own safety and rushed to the aid of others, and we were both moved by his story."
Having located him, the Sullivans are now working with a local charity to work out how to fund a life-changing move for the hero.
"We are just trying to work out with a charity in Manchester how we pay for the accommodation for six months and give him some money for clothes and other essentials to give him as chance of getting a job and a normal life. "Dave is in touch with several charities in Manchester, so they can tell us how much money to send and we'll send it. "Steve deserves this chance to improve his own life after his selfless and heroic acts undoubtedly improved the lives of so many others."

West Ham United will aim to make it third time lucky this year in the Far East as they travel to the Hong Kong Citi Soccer Sevens tournament on 26-28 May. The Hammers have come close to winning the competition in recent years, losing to Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa in the last two finals. But coach Mark Phillips hopes the team can finally go one step further this time as the young Hammers round off another intense campaign. "We've been there the last two years and it's a very well run, professional tournament with good teams in it," he said. "It's a different sort of tournament because the teams are 7-a-side but play on an 11-a-side pitch so the lads have to do a lot of running! "On the finals day you can get a full house of around 7,000 people watching so hopefully we can get there again. "It's a very competitive tournament. We're normally the youngest team there and a lot of it is about running power."
The tournament this year will feature West Ham's fellow British clubs Aston Villa, Leicester City and Glasgow Rangers along with big European sides like Marseille and Bayer Leverkusen. The competition has grown in prestige over the last few years, due to it's unique set of rules, and Phillips believes the Hammers will have to be at their best to go one better. "This year, it will be a massive ask to get in the final with the likes of Marseille and Rangers in it. But it's great for the players to play against different styles," he continued. "We may have some players returning from loans, but we'll have to see over the coming days who will be selected. "There's a lot of West Ham supporters that live in the Far East and a lot of them come to cheer us on."

West Ham United youngster Alfie Lewis has signed his first professional contract with the Club. The 17-year-old, who has penned a three-year-deal with the Hammers, is a highly-rated central-midfielder and has been a regular starter for the U18s this season. Impressive throughout the campaign for the Academy side, Lewis also played eleven times for the U23s, including appearances in the Checkatrade Trophy against Football League sides Coventry City, Wycombe Wanderers and Northampton Town. Having signed the deal which will keep him at the Club until 2020, the hot prospect expressed his delight at putting pen to paper. He said: "It's great news. This is the contract you always want when you first join the Club. I've done my scholarship and now I'm on my pro deal, so I'm looking forward to it. "Hard works pays off, like they say. Over the years, training and playing games – it's great now I have got this deal but I can't sit back on it – I need to keep pushing on. "It's been a great season for me [this year]. The youth teams have been doing well; the U23s were promoted last week and it's been a good season. I've had a few 23s games and a lot for the 18s. "I've learnt about the physicality and the quickness of the football for the U23s, especially against the Football League teams [in the Checkatrade Trophy], and it's been a great experience for me. The games in that competition have probably been the best ones this year. "Playing against the guys at the back in those teams, it's different to what you're used to in the 23s, so it was a great experience for us."
Lewis has played much of the season under the guidance of U18s coaches Mark Phillips and former Hammer of the Year Steve Potts, and has also received plenty of feedback from tutor Liam Manning. And Academy Director Terry Westley has high hopes for the midfielder, who he believes is still yet to develop fully and improve. "He's a boy we think a lot of, and he's gifted on the ball – he still has an awful lot to come," Westley claimed. "It's not like he's an early developer; he has plenty more development in him and he deserves his professional contract. "Slaven [Bilic] has brought him over for training sometimes and he's been with the U23 group this season. You can see that progression. "This season, with Domingos Quina, Nathan Trott signing pro deals, and with Reece Burke and Reece Oxford up there, Alfie follows in that tradition of us giving contracts over a longer period of time so we have a chance to develop him."
And Lewis, who describes himself as a player who likes to "get on the ball and create things", hopes to follow in the footsteps of those mentioned by Westley. The youngster continued: "It's really important to know that the Club want to push the players through from the Academy, and you know that you've got a chance if you keep doing things right, and you'll get the opportunity. "Hopefully I can follow in their footsteps. [Also players on loan this season] have done really well, and I've watched a few of their games. The leagues that they're playing in are not easy, so it's great. "Hopefully next year I'll push on and play more games for the 23s, train with the first team even more as well. I've trained about five times this season, and it's great to come over and see what they're doing. It's good."

Ahead of the Season Ticket relocation period, which will take place in the first two weeks of June, the Club would like to confirm the process for renewing Season Ticket Holders who are looking at the possibility of relocating their seat for the 2017/18 campaign.
Firstly, we would like to thank those supporters who have already renewed, for their continued support.
The Club has received a record number of renewals to date, with a week still to go until the deadline. As we have always stressed, supporters wishing to retain their existing seat when renewing of course have the right to do so, therefore please be advised that seat relocations are strictly subject to availability.
If you wish to relocate your seat, first and foremost you must have renewed your existing seat by the renewal deadline of Wednesday 31 May.
For renewing Season Ticket Holders, seat relocations will be prioritised by how early you renewed, which the Ticket Office hold a record of.
As previously explained, there are some priority cases where exceptional circumstances exist, such as accessibility requirements and a group of supporters who had to move out of Block 114 in order to increase the size of the segregation line.
If you wish to relocate your seat for the 2017/18 season, you must complete this online form by 9am on Monday 29 May. This will allow us to allocate you a relocation window in line with when you renewed. You will receive an email notification of your relocation window when you can call the Ticket Office.
The relocation phase will be a busy period for the Club and we would therefore ask that you only contact us once your window has opened. Supporters calling earlier will be politely requested to call back at their designated time.

However it's a place in Bilic's team that Cullen has his eyes firmly set upon, following a fantastic season on loan at Valley Parade. Masuaku linked with swap deal

West Ham full back Arthur Masuaku is being linked with a move to Serie A as part of a swap deal. According to sources in Italy, Milan's Inter are pondering making a move for the 23-year-old left back who moved to West Ham a year ago this summer in a £6million switch from Olympiakos. And it is further suggested that they will be looking to include Italian international Eder in a potential swap deal; the 30-year-old forward is thought to be surplus to requirements at the San Siro despite having joined the former European giants just 17 months ago.
* Staying in Italy, and fellow Serie A side Bologna are said to be keeping a close eye on West Ham's central defender Angelo Ogbonna.
The 29-year-old, who has recently recovered from major surgery is said to be keen to secure a spot in Italy's squad for next summer's World Cup Finals and is therefore considering a move in order to secure first team football. However Bologna are unlikely to be able to meet West Ham's asking fee, with Ogbonna - who cost West Ham in the region of €11million back in 2015 - thought to be valued around the £10million mark. A loan move have been mooted by some sources, although that possibility is unlike to tempt the Hammers who are only interested in a permanent deal.

West Ham co-owner David Sullivan has got in touch with the homeless man who helped victims in the aftermath of Monday night's at at the Manchester Arena after offering to reward him for his actions. Stephen Jones was sleeping rough close to the city centre when the explosion which killed 22 and injured more than 60 people took place. After realising what had happened he rushed to the aid of those hurt in the blast, giving an emotional account of the scenes to ITV News .
Upon hearing this account, Hammers chief Sullivan pledged to offer shelter and money to the 35-year-old. "It looks like he needs some help, so we are desperate to find who he is and give him six months free accommodation and a little bit of money to help him on his way," he told BBC Radio 5 live on Tuesday night.
Sullivan's son Dave has since taken to Twitter to reveal that they have managed to make contact with Jones. "We found Steve!," he tweeted. "Shows the power for good social media has. Thank you to all those involved, you have helped change a mans life [sic]." West Ham have confirmed that the Sullivans are working alongside a local charity to ensure that Jones is given accommodation. "Dave and myself were both hugely impressed by the bravery shown by Steve, the emergency services and all those who rushed to the aid of those affected by the Manchester attack," the Hammers' co-owner told their official website. "This was a terrible incident, but the response of the people of Manchester has been one of bravery, togetherness and resilience – the hallmarks of what makes Britain such a fantastic place. "Steve was just one of hundreds of people who forgot about their own safety and rushed to the aid of others, and we were both moved by his story."
A public appeal has also been set up on the JustGiving website to raise money for Jones following his heroic actions, with more than £19,000 raised by Wednesday lunchtime. In Jones' harrowing account he described the scenes he saw outside the Arena. "We were having to pull nails and bits of glass out of their arms and faces," he said, as he recalls seeing "lifeless" bodies of children on the floor, next to their "hysterical" mothers. He continued: "Just because I'm homeless, doesn't mean that I haven't got a heart and I'm not human still. "They needed help and I like to think that someone would come and help me if I needed it. "It's just instinct to go and help and it was children and it was a lot of children with blood all over them and crying and screaming. "It had to be done, you had to help them. I wouldn't have been able to live with myself for walking away and leaving kids like that."

West Ham are close to completing a deal to sign Pablo Zabaleta on a free transfer, according to Sky sources. The Argentina defender will leave Manchester City when his contract expires at the end of June and is in final negotiations over a switch to the Hammers.
Sky Sports News HQ revealed in April that West Ham were interested in bringing Zabaleta to London Stadium. If the deal goes through, the 32-year-old will become Slaven Bilic's first major signing of the summer and compete with Sam Byram for the right-back berth at West Ham. Bilic has been looking to add to his options at right-back with Alvaro Arbeloa set to depart the club in the summer following the conclusion of his one-year deal. Zabaleta joined City from Espanyol in 2008 and went on to make over 300 appearances for the club, winning the Premier League on two occasions.

West Ham have decided to reject a move to sign Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas on a free transfer, according to Transfer Market Web. The report also claims that London rivals Arsenal have also opted against signing the former Real Madrid stopper, because of his age and his astronomical wage demands. This comes after Spanish outlet AS claimed Premier League rivals Liverpool had reached an agreement with the 167-time Spain international to bring him to Anfield on a pre-contract agreement. Casillas, 36, is recognised as one of the world's best goalkeepers after 16 years between the sticks in Real Madrid's first team following his debut way back in 1999. The former Real captain went on to make an enormous 732 league and cup appearances for the Spanish giants, keeping 234 clean sheets in the process. The Spaniard's trophy cabinet includes triumphs such as a World Cup trophy, three Champions League victories and two European Championship successes. However, Casillas' two-year stay with Portugal has not proved to be as fruitful, failing to win a trophy and being criticised for his performances with the Portuguese giants. Porto's number one could be seeing his career beginning to enter its final stages, despite making 43 appearances during the 2016-17 campaign.
Although Slaven Bilic's side are likely to be in the summer transfer window for a new goalkeeper despite confirming a deal to keep Adrian at the London Stadium, it is believed they will look elsewhere instead of signing Casillas.

West Ham midfielder Sofiane Feghouli has vowed to improve next season after struggling to hit top form during his debut campaign in English football. Feghouli joined the Hammers on a free transfer last summer amid a large amount of fanfare, having impressed during a six-year spell at previous club at Valencia. But the 27-year-old scored just three goals in 20 Premier League appearances for Slaven Bilic's side, who finished in 11th place. The Algeria international struggled with a series of injuries and has conceded the style of football on show in England's top tier is a stark contrast to what he has experienced elsewhere. "First of all, the Premier League is a very different style of football to what I have experienced in La Liga, the Champions League and World Cups," Feghouli told West Ham's official website. "Unfortunately, I was affected by some physical problems earlier in the season but that's football and I'll take what I've learned this year to improve for next season. "I'd like to thank all of the West Ham supporters for the messages they've been sending me on social media. "It's important for the players to know that they are supported in this way," he added. The Hammers fell short of expectations this season but the club's summer transfer plans are getting underway as Bilic looks to add to his squad. West Ham are reportedly interested in a surprise summer transfer window move for Manchester United striker Anthony Martial as they look at a number of options up front. The Hammers are desperate to land a big name up front after finding that to be something of a problem position for them down the years due to repeated injury problems for Andy Carroll. Martial has shown plenty of promise since arriving in the Premier League last season, scoring 15 goals in 56 league appearances in total. However, the Frenchman only managed 18 starts for United in the season just gone, and his future seems in some doubt after apparently failing to impress Mourinho. This has reportedly alerted West Ham, with the east Londoners also looking into signing Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi or Manchester City's Kelechi Iheanacho in that area, according to Goal. It remains to be seen if United would allow a talented young player like Martial to leave at this stage, with the 21-year-old rated for some time as among the most promising youngsters in Europe. Lyon have also been linked with a loan move for Martial as he may be tempted by the offer of more regular playing time next season.

The Bradford City loanee, a class act again in his second season at the club, dejectedly trudged off the pitch following a cruel late loss to Millwall in a sad end to his footballing journey with the Bantams. Having proved himself in League One during two highly-impressive loan spells, the West Ham midfielder now has his sights set on propelling himself into the first-team picture with the Hammers in 2017-18 – or on continuing his career development in the Championship in a third loan. Either way, Saturday's events mean that it is unlikely that he will don the claret-and-amber jersey again, any time soon. But his gratitude for his time at City is heartfelt and considerable. Cullen, 21, told The Yorkshire Post: "The whole process of me coming out on loan is to try and get in West Ham's first team. I am still in a position to do that when I go back in the summer in pre-season. We will have the discussions and see what needs to be done. "Hopefully, I will be in West Ham's plans. But if not, then a Championship club is probably the next step for me. There are discussions to be had and we will see where we go. "I could not have really wished for a better club to come on loan to. It (Bradford) is a really great club with great people and I wanted to come back for a second spell to try and get us promoted. We have got one step closer than last year, but just come up short again. "It is a club I really felt the passion to play for. It is a tough one to take and we will have to come again."
On his sense of personal disappointment, Cullen, watched from the stands by a number of family members and friends who made the short trip from Essex to cheer him on, added: "I had a lot of family and friends here and my girlfriend and everyone has been brilliant to me because it has been a tough time; the first time I have been away from home for a permanent period of time. "It was nice to have them at the final and I would have loved to have won it for them as well as ourselves. We have come up a bit short."
Saturday may have represented the end of Cullen's Bantams' story, for the time being at any rate, but the schemer believes that the club have every chance of going that one step further next season by securing a cherished promotion back to the second tier after two near-misses. His belief is fortified by the sight of a Bradford squad coming together in outstanding fashion after some early-summer upheaval following the exit of Phil Parkinson. Cullen added: "After the end of last season, there was an overhaul of staff and players and I think there were only nine or 10 players left in the squad. "To build a new squad together and go as far as we have done is a pleasing achievement. The expectations at the start of the season have probably been exceeded. Next season, I am sure the lads will go again and give it a great shout. "Everyone has got to move on now and I've got to in my career. All the lads will bring the club forward, I am sure. "It will be another tough season. It is such a disappointment as it's such a long season and you work so hard to get here and are 90 minutes away from getting promoted. But with the quality and togetherness in that dressing room, I am sure the lads will be right up there."

West Ham are bracing themselves for a summer fight with Marseille for another of their top stars — £20million record-signing Andre Ayew.
The Hammers sold midfielder Dimitri Payet back to the French club in January and they are now interested in Ayew, another of their former players. The Ghana international signed for the Hammers last August and promptly got injured in his first Premier League appearance. He returned two months later but, despite scoring eight times this season, has never really rediscovered the form that persuaded them to sign him from Swansea. West Ham are hopeful that will come next season, but new Marseille owner Frank McCourt is staging a massive overhaul of his club's squad this summer ahead of a push for the French title and Champions League qualification.
Having re-signed Payet in January 18 months after selling him, the American businessman now has a string of other ambitious Premier League stars in his sights, also including Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud at Arsenal, Crystal Palace's Yohan Cabaye and Riyad Mahrez at Leicester.
Marseille watched Ayew join Swansea on a Bosman in summer 2015. He scored 12 times in 35 appearances for the Welsh club before becoming the Hammers' record signing. Meanwhile, West Ham's director of player recruitment Tony Henry has claimed they need a "maximum" of three signings this summer. Manchester City stalwart Pablo Zabaleta is set to become the club's first capture, in an attempt to solve their problems at right-back. The Hammers are also hunting at least one new striker, with Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge , Man City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho and Michy Batshuayi of Chelsea all major options. Help is also being sought in central defence, with relegated Sunderland's Lamine Kone the man they want. Although the Irons finished just 11th this season, Henry is confident they will be able to punch their weight under boss Slaven Bilic next season with just three quality signings. He said: "We need two or three, maximum. If we can get the ones we want, I think we'll be a really good team next year."
Despite the criticism that their new London Stadium home has had over the past year, Henry believes the prospect of playing there remains a draw for potential signings. He added: "London is a massive thing for players, but obviously the new stadium, players come and they love it. "I remember when we bought Jose Fonte in in January, he just said the stadium was brilliant.When he played for Southampton here, he said he thought it was fantastic. It's a massive pull."

West Ham co-owner David Sullivan and his son, David Sullivan Jr, have committed to paying for six months of accommodation for a homeless man who assisted victims of a bomb in Manchester on Monday night. An explosion killed 22 people and injured 120 others at an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena. In the immediate aftermath, a homeless man by the name of Steve was reported to have assisted the victims of the blast. "Just because I'm homeless it doesn't mean that I haven't got a heart and I'm not human still," Steve told ITV News on Tuesday. "They needed the help. I'd like to think that someone would come and help me if I needed the help. It's just instinct to go and help, if someone needed your help."
Steve's interview struck a chord with many watching at home, and the son of the Hammers co-owner was one of them to understand Steve's words and feel a desire to help. Shortly after the clip aired, Sullivan Jr began a social media campaign in an effort to track down Steve and provide him with somewhere to live for six months. Eventually, after a few hours of searching and with the assistance of some local charities, they were able to track down Steve and reward him for his selfless act. Let's hope he can get back on his feet and that we can all follow his example.
