Club heading for record season ticket sales -WHUFC Official Site
02/07/2007 16:45

The ticket office is pleased to announce that, at close of business on
Saturday 30th June, a record number of season ticket holders had renewed for
the new season.

Last season West Ham United enjoyed its highest ever number of season ticket
holders, with a total of 24,300 reached by December 2006. This figure looks
certain to be exceeded before the start of the 2007-08 campaign, with over
21,000 renewals already accepted.

The Club can confirm that, due to the high demand, it may be necessary to
cap season ticket sales at some stage prior to the start of the season. This
is necessary for a number of reasons.

Firstly, although the stadium capacity is 35,300, an element of this seating
is made up of corporate hospitality areas, plus, depending on the
opposition, up to 3,000 seats are allocated to visiting supporters for each
league match.

Secondly, for home cup ties, we may need to allocate the visiting team the
maximum 15% and so we must have sufficient seating available to relocate
home supporters.

Finally, we do feel that it is essential to have a certain number of seats
available for members to purchase on a match-to-match basis, and a cap will
ensure that this is the case. In addition to season tickets, the new look
official Club memberships are selling quickly and demand for match tickets
will certainly be high.

Should it prove necessary to impose a cap, a waiting list will be
established for those supporters unable to purchase a season ticket and
supporters who join the waiting list will then enjoy priority (after those
renewing) for 2008-09 and subsequent seasons.

Now that the renewal date has passed the ticket office is currently
processing seat change requests from existing season ticket holders in the
order of when received. All remaining season tickets will go on general sale
at 9.00am on Wednesday 11th July.

Players back for pre-season training -WHUFC Official Site
02/07/2007 15:43

Alan Curbishley welcomed his players back to Chadwell Heath for the first
day of pre-season training on Monday morning, as the preparations for our
2007-08 Barclays Premier League campaign got underway.

Sporting their new Umbro training wear, the Hammers stars began their summer
fitness work on the freshly re-laid pitches at our training headquarters,
and will spend the next fortnight building up their levels before the
opening pre-season friendly, against Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday,
July 14.
A few familiar faces were missing as the squad reported back - Lucas Neill
is currently away on international duty with Australia, while England
under-21 stars Mark Noble, Anton Ferdinand and Nigel Reo-Coker have been
handed an extended break after their recent exploits in the UEFA European
Championship finals.
However, Curbs and his staff will have been delighted to see Dean Ashton and
Matthew Upson back out on the training field as they look to put last
season's injury frustrations behind them, while our latest new signing,
French international midfielder Julien Flaubert, will meet up with his new
team-mates later this week...

Curbs delighted by Faubert arrival -WHUFC Official Site
03/07/2007 09:49

Alan Curbishley has revealed his delight at the capture of French
international midfielder Julien Faubert.

The 23-year-old signed from Bordeaux on Sunday after Hammers pounced to beat
off interest from several other clubs and make him our second new arrival
this summer.

"I am delighted that Julien has agreed to join us," says Curbs. "There was a
lot of strong interest in the player from other clubs but we acted quickly
and he was very keen to come.

"Great credit must go to Eggert Magnusson and Scott Duxbury for their work
in ensuring that the transfer took place quickly and smoothly, and we look
forward to Julien joining up with us later this week.

"He is a young player, very strong, quick and athletic, who is comfortable
at right-back or right-midfield, and can also play high up the pitch as part
of a 4-3-3 if required.

"He has a great pedigree having progressed through the Cannes academy, and
scored on his international debut for France last year, so we are very
excited about the impact he could have here."

Reo-Coker deal not agreed - agent - BBC Sport

Reo-Coker is Villa first major signing of the summer
Aston Villa have not yet come to an agreement regarding the fee for West Ham
midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker, according to the player's agent.
Earlier reports suggested that Villa's bid had been accepted and that the
23-year-old had undergone a medical.
But Reo-Coker's agent Tony Finnegan told BBC London 94.9: "Where we are at
now is that we are waiting for the two clubs to agree a price.
"There has been no medical. The lad is been waiting to go on holiday."
He added: "We thought there may have been a deal last week. Everybody knows
Villa are interested in the lad. We're just waiting to get the agreement
between the two clubs."
Villa had tested the Hammers with a £7m bid for the England Under-21 captain
but the London club were said to be holding out for a fee nearer the £10m
mark.
Reo-Coker handed in a transfer request to West Ham at the end of last
season.
The midfielder, who played at the 2007 European Under-21 Championship, cost
West Ham £500,000 when he moved from Wimbledon in 2004.
Last season, some supporters and critics blamed Reo-Coker for the Hammers'
slump, that saw them in the bottom three for much of the season and then
narrowly avoid relegation.
Reo-Coker's addition will come at a welcome time for Villa boss Martin
O'Neill who is currently light in midfield with Gavin McCann having moved to
Bolton and Steven Davis set to join Fulham.

Blades set for relegation verdict - BBC Sport

Sheffield United will learn from a Premier League arbitration panel on
Tuesday if they have won the battle to regain a place in the top flight.
The Blades claim West Ham should have been docked points for breaking
transfer rules over the signings of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano.
West Ham stayed up at the Blades' expense on the final day of the season,
leading to Sheffield United's appeal.
West Ham had earlier been fined £5.5m for their handling of the duo's deals.
The panel cannot order the League to deduct points from the Hammers - but
they do have the power to insist that a fresh independent disciplinary
commission looks at the case.
Such a ruling would throw the league into disarray - because it would be
impossible for a new disciplinary hearing and any subsequent appeals to take
place before the start of the new season.
A third option would be for the tribunal to declare that there are no
grounds to order a new disciplinary commission for West Ham but that
Sheffield United could have a case for compensation.
However, that verdict too would open a can of worms by effectively saying
that the original commission acted inappropriately.
The Premier League maintains it handled the affair by the rulebook.
It has consistently argued that the independent commission's original
decision to fine West Ham rather than dock points should not be overturned
simply because another club does not agree with it.

Teddy linked with States move - Sky Sports
By Carla Hilton - Created on 2 Jul 2007

Former West Ham striker Teddy Sheringham could be moving to America,
according to his agent Barry Neville.
Sheringham's future has been subject to much speculation after being
released by the Hammers, with the 41-year-old recently linked with a move to
Championship side Colchester United.
But Neville says the veteran striker may not even be playing in England next
season.
"We're currently talking to teams in America and other countries," Neville
told EADT. "There is no guarantee that Teddy will stay in England."
Sheringham, whose impressive career to-date consists of 51 appearances for
England as well as club stints for Millwall, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham,
Manchester United, Portsmouth and West Ham, says he still has a few years
left in him.
"I'm determined to go on playing for as long as I can," said Sheringham.

Hammers show duo the door - ITV-football.co.uk

West Ham have released Teddy Sheringham and Shaun Newton after manager Alan
Curbishley turned down the opportunity of renewing their contracts.
Sheringham, the oldest player to have appeared and scored in Premier League
history, joined the Hammers in 2004 from Portsmouth and scored 28 goals for
the east London club.
The 41 year-old former Millwall, Tottenham and Manchester United striker has
been linked with Championship outfit Crystal Palace and League One side
Bournemouth.
Newton joined the club in 2005 from Wolves but was loaned out to
Championship team Leicester in March 2007.
The 31-year-old defender found himself at the centre of controversy in July
last year when he was banned for seven months having tested positive for
cocaine following an FA Cup semi-final clash against Middlesbrough.

Hammers chase Ghana skipper Appiah - The Daily Mail
Last updated at 10:12am on 3rd July 2007

West Ham are leading the chase for £5million-rated Stephen Appiah from
Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
The 26-year-old Ghana captain, who has two years left on his contract, came
close to joining Arsenal last summer.
Now Hammers boss Alan Curbishley is ready to swoop for the former Juventus
star in order to add Appiah to his new-look midfield, according to reports
in The Daily Mirror.
Meanwhile, Randy Lerner flew into England last night to push through Nigel
Reo-Coker's £8million transfer from West Ham to Aston Villa.
Villa owner Lerner has become frustrated at the protracted negotiations
after the Hammers demanded an extra £1m for the midfielder, who has
completed his medical and agreed personal terms with Villa.

Appiah targeted by Curbishley - EatSleepSport.com

West Ham have been linked with a £5million move for Ghana skipper Stephen
Appiah from Turkish giants Fenerbahce. The 26-year-old is said to be keen on
a move to the Premiership and he almost joined Arsenal last summer.
The midfielder has two years left on his contract at Fenerbahce but it is
believed they would be willing to let him leave if they can recoup up to
£5million for him.
Appiah, who joined Fenerbahce from Italian giants Juventus two years ago,
has 41 caps for Ghana and has attracted attention from several top sides
across Europe.
It is thought his combative style would suit the Premiership and Hammers
boss Alan Curbishley has targeted Appiah as a possible replacement for Nigel
Reo-Coker, who is all set to leave Upton Park for Aston Villa.

Sheffield United clutching at straws in trying to replace West Ham in the
Premiership - Sportingo.com
Tue, Jul 3, 07 08:18

Just think of the chaos for Arsenal, Liverpool and several other clubs if
the appeal of a relegated club is upheld.
'The £5.5m fine meted out to West Ham was a record, and related exclusively
to the withholding of documentation that related to the ownership of the
world-class pairing'
After weeks of wrangling, the Premier League arbitration panel is today due
to give it's long awaited verdict on whether West Ham should be demoted to
the Championship, and whether Sheffield United should retain their
Premiership place at the Hammers' expense.

When Argentine pair Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano were unveiled as West
Ham players last August I was as shocked as the rest of the world at the
audacious swoop for two players who, you would be forgiven for thinking,
were punching well below their weight by signing for a club who were more
than likely to be fighting at the wrong end of the table.

It was clear then that the deal was slightly confusing. My concerns, like
those of many others I'm sure, were more that they were using Upton Park as
a shop window and that their stay would be brief, even as short as the
approaching January transfer window. I could not have imagined that there
was far more to the deal than was at first apparent. The pair, it was clear
at the time, were pretty much "owned" by Media Sports Investments and MSIs
former head Kia Joorabchian (who, it is clear now, is a bit of a shady
character to say the least).

By the end of the season Carlos Tevez had, with a little help from the rest,
pretty much saved West Ham from relegation to the Championship. And tis in
the one season when being relegated from the Premiership was to prove more
costly than any other to date, due in no small part to the extra cash being
injected from a new TV rights contract. Mascherano, on the other hand, had
done little to earn a place alongside Tevez in the West Ham cult hero
stakes, and was doing far better on Merseyside, where he found himself in a
Champions League final with Liverpool.

The £5.5m fine meted out to West Ham was a record, and related exclusively
to the withholding of documentation that related to the ownership of the
world-class pairing. The Hammers accepted the fine, more in the hope of not
wanting to 'rock the boat' than to any feelings of being unfairly punished.
Sheffield United, or indeed any club who found themselves below Alan
Curbishley's side and therefore relegated, were going to try their luck at
getting the verdict re-opened. And let's be clear, that's all the panel can
do as they wield no power beyond referring the matter back to have the case
re-opened.

It seems doomed to failure, and even though the panel have sat for longer
than anticipated, one can only feel that the verdict will find in West Ham's
favour. Sheffield United's board are threatening to take the case to the
European Commission should they not get the result they want. This may be
just a bluff and I fear they will have to accept that they will sit out next
season in the Championship which, I'm afraid, is where they deserve to be
for, to quote another cliché, the League table does not lie.

Can you imagine what would occur should West Ham be docked points? It would
lead to all clubs who suffered at the hands of Carlos Tevez to appeal a
result that might have gone the way of the Hammers. Surely those teams have
as much right to protest as Sheffield United?

Tevez was not much of an obstacle when the Blades carved up West Ham 3-0 in
April, but the forward did put many other teams to the sword. He helped his
side to a 1-0 win at the Emirates so does this mean that Arsenal can seek to
overturn the result and therefore finish above Liverpool in third place? I
am sure there are a good few clubs who could feel equally aggrieved and
would deserve some recompense should Sheffield United succeed in their
appeal.

To me, it appears that the real issue is with rules concerning contracts and
"ownership" of players. In which case the financial punishment is far more
appropriate. When you throw into the mix the mystery surrounding two
Sheffield United signings, Jon Stead and Steve Kabba, there is even less of
a case to be heard.

New additions to backroom staff - WHUFC Official Site
02/07/2007 09:48

There will be some new faces at West Ham United's Chadwell Heath training
ground when the players return to begin their pre-season preparations this
morning.

While new signings Scott Parker and Julien Faubert are the most high-profile
arrivals, manager Alan Curbishley has also made a number of important
additions to his coaching and backroom staff ahead of the new campaign.

As revealed on whufc.com last week, former Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday
defender Glynn Snodin has been appointed First Team Coach, with Kevin Keen
reverting back to his previous role as Reserve Team Coach.

There have also been changes to the medical department. Nick Davies has
arrived from Charlton Athletic as our new Head of Sports Science, while his
former colleagues at The Valley, George Cooper and Dave Singleton, have been
appointed Head of Physiotherapy and Reserve Team Physiotherapist
respectively.

Masseur Darren Page has also headed from Charlton to join the staff, and Kit
Manager Steve Rigby is already settled having replaced the retiring Eddie
Gillam at the end of last season.

A number of staff members have also departed from Upton Park this summer,
including Physiotherapist Steve Allen and Sports Scientist Niall Clark, who
have both teamed up with former manager Alan Pardew at Charlton, Assistant
Manager Keith Peacock and reserve coach Steve Brown.

Curbs says: "I'd like to welcome our new staff members and wish them all the
best as they begin their careers at West Ham United.

"Obviously there is an irony in the fact that some of our new staff members
have joined us from Charlton while others have headed in the opposite
direction but, from my point of view, the only criteria our new additions
have been selected on is their ability to do the job, and I am certain they
will all prove their worth very quickly.

"Our aim is to beef up all departments behind the scenes at the Club, and
this may not be the end of the changes that we make."

Faubert: This is a dream come true - WHUFC Official Site
01/07/2007 20:17

Julien Faubert admits that signing for West Ham United has made a lifelong
dream come true.

The French international midfielder completed his ?9million move from
Bordeaux on Sunday morning and, in his first interview as a Hammers player,
revealed that he can't wait to experience life in the Premier League.

"I am very happy," he says. "For me it has always been a dream to play in
the Premier League and now that dream is coming true. West Ham United is a
great club and I cannot wait to enjoy this experience.

"Things happened very quickly in the past few days. As soon as I was told
that West Ham wanted to sign me, I was very happy and saw it as a wonderful
opportunity.

"I like the fact that West Ham is recognised as a family club and I am
looking forward to being a part of this. It was similar at Bordeaux, where I
was very happy, and for me that is important.

"I have already visited the stadium and it gave me a very good feeling. It
is hard to describe, but the atmosphere was very special. I have also met
some of the people working at the Club and they have made me feel very
welcome.

"The Chairman, Mr Magnusson, is a very passionate man and has a lot of
ambition. I believe that he will bring great success to West Ham and it is
very exciting to think about being a part of that."

The 23-year-old, who made his senior debut for France in August 2006 -
scoring the winner in a 2-1 victory over Bosnia - is also aiming to enjoy
further success on the international stage, with next summer's European
Championship Finals in Austria and Switzerland a clear target.

"I hope so, because that is very important to me," he says. "First of all,
though, I have to prove myself to the manager Alan Curbishley and win a
place in the West Ham team.

"If I can play in every game then I hope that the national team coach will
recognise me and give me more opportunities to represent my country, which
is a fantastic honour.

"This is a big step for me and I am looking forward to my future here in
England. It is a very exciting opportunity and I hope I can be part of great
success at West Ham United."

Fau's faux-par - KUMB
Filed: Sunday, 1st July 2007
By: Matthew O'Greel

New signing Julien Faubert has expressed his delight at joining West Ham
United.
Talking to whufc.com on the day his £6m switch from Bordeaux was confirmed
the 23-year-old winger said:

"For me it has always been a dream to play in the Premier League and now
that dream is coming true. West Ham United is a great club and I cannot wait
to enjoy this experience.

"Things happened very quickly in the past few days. As soon as I was told

opportunity.

"This is a big step for me and I am looking forward to my future here in
England. It is a very exciting opportunity and I hope I can be part of great
success at West Ham United."

Faubert's admission that he is delighted to be playing in the Premier League
is nothing new - after all, as far back as last year he was quoted as saying
it 'is more than a dream, it is a priority' to play in England's top flight.

Had the French international had his way he would have been playing for one
of the Premier League's London clubs - although his preferred destination
would have been a few miles North of Upton Park.

Talking to SkySports last August, he revealed:

"Arsenal are my favourite club, I hope that one day, I could join them.

"Gael Clichy, who has started his career with me at Cannes plays there - and
it would be so great to play again with him."

Faubert can now look forward to Saturday, 29th September when Clichy and his
Arsenal colleagues visit The Boleyn Ground for what will be United's first
London derby of the season.

Villa close in on £8m Reo-Coker - BBC Sport

Reo-Coker is Villa first major signing of the summer
Aston Villa are close to signing midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker from West Ham in

Hammers in for Barcelona hard man 2nd July 2007 - all3points.co.uk
By Staff Writer
West Ham have set their sights on Barcelona hard man Thiago Motta according
to reports over the weekend.
The Sunday Mirror claims that the Brazilian international midfielder is keen
on a move to the Premiership and that West Ham are leading the chase for his
services.
Motta, known for his hard man image, told the paper:
"The Premier League is sensational and has a style that's perfectly suited
to the way I play. I've played many games against English opposition and
believe I can enjoy football in England.
"The key at the moment is to sort out my Barca situation."
Motta could be available to West Ham on a free transfer after Barcelona
sporting director Txiki Beguristain told him he has no future at the club.
West Ham could face competition for Motta though from Manchester City and
Middlesbrough according to the paper.

Spurs, West Ham and Arsenal fans' rivalry is healthy - so long as it's
non-violent - Sportingo.com
Mon, Jul 2, 07 08:32

Sportingo's Mark Apostolou thinks that the inter-club hatred of fans for
each other is quite acceptable, but it's difficult to tell Manchester City,
Manchester United, Everton, Liverpool, Celtic and Rangers fans that.
'it is the kind of thing that riles us and causes a great many fans to get
increasingly angry, leading to a seemingly unending comment war on message
boards'
Darren Bent has evoked the anger of supporters at Upton Park by suggesting
that his move to Spurs will serve his ambitions - his England and European
hopes - better than opting for West Ham.

Needless to say, that hasn't gone down too well with Hammers fans, but his
comments got me thinking that when players do move from one club to another
or as in this case, chose one club over another, they invariably "have a
dig" - often at fans and the club's ambitions - but more often than not with
a hidden hint that they are moving to a bigger club.

When David Beckham was transferred from Manchester United to Real Madrid he
said that he was leaving United - who were established at that time as the
biggest club in world football - to join an even bigger club. In his case
he didn't particularly want to leave, so he had a "little dig." So how can
you tell which is a bigger club? Is it a case of comparing the clubs'
histories or indeed the size of their followings? Or does it simply not
matter?

Whether you are affiliated to either West Ham or Spurs, or indeed to a side
at either end of a similar debate, it is the kind of thing that riles us and
causes a great many fans to get increasingly angry, leading to a seemingly
unending comment war on message boards. But stop for one moment - does it
matter?

Arsenal fans do not like Spurs fans! Correct. And the same is true in
reverse. And how do you upset a Tottenham supporter even more? Well, if you
are an Arsenal fan, you point out that their team is nowhere near as big or
as important as yours. You will seek to cement that claim by pointing out
something to the effect that it has been more than 40 years since Spurs
lifted the title.

Does this make one side bigger than other? Or indeed better? In pure
statistical terms, of course it does, but does history have anything to do
with today?

As a fan of a team that is infinitely smaller than any mentioned so far in
this article, I am used to being patronised by football fans and
non-football people alike. There is nothing more irritating than being told
just how small my club is by someone who has no interest in football and has
no team of his own. You know the kind of person I mean, the person who
switched his allegiance in school every Saturday around 4.45 so that on
Monday he would be extolling the virtues of whichever team happened to be
top of the Division One table (days before the Premiership, yes there was
life before 1992).

However, after being the butt of many jokes and sly digs, I can say that I
have reached the impervious stage. I simply let the insults roll off like
water off a duck's back (if you'll excuse the 12th cliché of this article).

It is not as if, because of these continuous attacks, I feel it necessary to
switch to a 'bigger' club - although when I was younger I almost did. I
realise that as football fans' hatred for other teams is a given, be it
geographically or otherwise, it is perfectly natural for them to have
nothing but contempt for each other. As long as this doesn't descend into
violence, than I am all for it. A spot of healthy competition never hurt
anyone. What I am saying is that for anyone to simply state that their club
is 'bigger' than another is just not enough.

I choose my rivalries carefully. There will always be teams that I despise;
unfortunately these teams rarely face mine as, invariably, they are playing
at different ends of the footballing spectrum (mine at the lower end!)
Rivalry is the key and it is a testament to the popularity of football that
it is more evident than in any other sport. The notion of rivalry between
two sets of supporters should not be thought of as neanderthals or something
to be dissected by academics. It should be championed and celebrated as it
is what the game it about to a large extent.

Arsenal fans have every right to feel proud of their club. Historically they
are up there with the greatest, right from the Herbert Chapman days through
to the present incumbent Arsene Wenger. That doesn't necessarily make them a
"bigger" club than either West Ham or Spurs. Again, historically, West Ham
can point to the fact they they are regarded as Britain's finest footballing
academy, a claim backed up by the unending stream of talent that finds its
way into the elite areas.

And Spurs can always point to the Bill Nicholson era and the wonderful days
of Dave Mackay and Danny Blanchflower, when they were a true force in the
game. Everton haven't always been the underdog on Merseyside and Manchester
City can trade blows with United over their particular heritage.

There is a famous saying that "what goes round, comes round" and who is to
say that Spurs and West Ham fans won't be having a jibe at their Arsenal
opposites this coming season? Let's see whether quiet man David Moyes has a
trick or two up his sleeve for the more flamboyant Rafa Banitez, and can
Sven sprinkle a bit of long lost magic at City.

The one certain thing in football is . . . you never know!

Reo-Coker deal enters final phase?- westhamutd-mad.co.uk
Story by Barney French2 July 2007

Reports suggest Aston Villa and West Ham have come to agreement over a price
for the former England u21 captain

Only a few weeks ago O'Neill's £7mil bid was rejected and word was the
Hammers were holding out for more in the region of £10-12mil. But it is
believed Reo-Coker, who underwent a medical at Villa Park over the weekend,
will move for £8-9mil; A vast profit on the £575,000 he was bought for.

West Ham have shown since the window opened that they will not sell lightly
or under-value. Wigan had a £3mil bid for Etherington turned down - though
that may have had something to do with Whelan's shennanigans of end season -
and Paul Konchesky, wanted by Birmingham was the subject of a £3mil bid
which was also rejected out of hand.

Breaking News... Faubert completes move - WHUFC Official Site
01/07/2007 16:50

The board of West Ham United is delighted to announce the signing of French
international midfielder Julien Faubert from Bordeaux for a fee of nine
million euros.
The 23-year-old put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Upton Park on
Sunday morning and becomes Alan Curbishley's second summer signing following
the arrival of Scott Parker from Newcastle United last month.

Born in Le Havre on August 1, 1983, Julien headed south in 1998 when he was
offered a place at the AS Cannes youth academy, famous for nurturing such
talents as Zinédine Zidane, Johan Micoud and Patrick Vieira. He went on to
make 45 senior appearances for the club before moving to Bordeaux in the
summer of 2004.

Having established himself early on, he was used mainly as a right winger by
coach Ricardo during 2005-06 as Bordeaux finished runners-up behind
Olympique Lyonnais to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

The fast and powerful midfielder then earned a call-up to the French
national squad following last year's World Cup finals, making his
international debut against Bosnia on August 16, when he scored the winning
goal in a 2-1 victory and became the first player to wear the famous number
10 shirt following the retirement of Zinedine Zidane.

Julien went on to make 34 appearances for Bordeaux in 2006-07, scoring five
goals, including two in the Champions League, as the French side narrowly
missed out on qualification to the last 16 of the competition, from a group
that included Liverpool, PSV Eindhoven and Galatasaray.

Julien became one of the hottest properties in French football last season,
and the Hammers beat off interest from AS Roma and Rangers to secure his
services.

Mr Magnusson says: "I am delighted to welcome Julien to Upton Park and feel
sure that he will become a very successful signing for the Club.

"He is one of the most highly-rated young players in European football and
many clubs were attempting to sign him, so we are very pleased that he has
decided to join West Ham United.

"I have been very impressed by his desire and ambition and I think he will
be very popular among our supporters."

West Ham close in on Faubert deal - BBC Sport

Faubert was understood to have wanted to go to Rangers
West Ham are set to sign Julien Faubert after agreeing a fee with Bordeaux.
The 23-year-old, who scored on his only international appearance for France
in 2006, can play in midfield or defence and is in London for his medical.
"We've reached agreement with West Ham and his move is going well,"
confirmed Bordeaux chairman Jean-Louis Triaud.
Faubert has been with Bordeaux since 2004 but after the French club rejected
a reported £4m offer from Rangers he refused to train with his team-mates.
His agent Philippe Sol confirmed the Hammers had offered "substantially
more" than the Ibrox outfit and told the Sunday Herald: "He was given an
ultimatum by Bordeaux: West Ham or nowhere.

"They were no longer interested in talking with Rangers and after everything
that went on with Julien last week there really wasn't a way back for him at
Bordeaux.
"He wanted to go to Rangers and had given them his word. Everything he did
last week was about moving to Rangers and he wasn't looking to line up a
move anywhere else.
"But there is nothing he could do about the transfer fee and you can
understand why Bordeaux wanted to accept the offer from West Ham."

Hammers win Faubert race - KUMB
Filed: Saturday, 30th June 2007
By: Matthew O'Greel

West Ham United are understood to be on the verge of signing French
international winger Julien Faubert.
According to the player's agent, United are set to fork out £6m to secure
the services of the 23-year-old Bordeaux winger.

Earlier in the week it looked as if the pacy Faubert - who is nicknamed 'Le
TGV' after the French express train due - would be on his way to the SPL
with Rangers, who had apparently agreed personal terms with the player -
despite Bordeaux having rejected the Gers' opening £4m bid.

Faubert is then reported to have gone on strike for three days after
Bordeaux rejected Rangers' offer, after which he was told he would be frozen
out of the French national team should he continue to refuse to play.

Faubert's agent, Philippe Sol, claims that at this stage a deal was struck
with the Hammers.

"Julien was summoned to a meeting with the Bordeaux president on Friday
night and told about West Ham's offer," he said. "It was substantially more
than any cash on the table from Rangers and Julien was given an ultimatum by
Bordeaux - West Ham or nowhere.

"They were no longer interested in talking with Rangers and after everything
that went on with Julien last week there really wasn't much way back for
him.

"He wanted to go to Rangers and had given them his word. Everything he did
last week was about moving to Rangers, and he wasn't looking to line up a
move anywhere else.

"But there is nothing he could do about the transfer fee and you can
understand why Bordeaux wanted to accept the offer from West Ham.

"I'm sure Julien will now be relieved he can get on with his career and will
do everything to try and make a successful impact on English football."

Gilles Rousset, a former Rangers player and now goalkeeping coach at Lyon
added that he was 'surprised' that Faubert was being allowed to leave
Bordeaux so cheaply.

"He is a key player for them," said Rousset. "The prices being talked about
here [in France] have been between £7m-£9m.

"He might be an unknown name in the UK right now but take it from me, he is
very highly rated in France."

Faubert's arrival would almost certainly signal the end of United's interest
in Chelsea's Shaun Wright-Phillips, who is also said to be interesting
Tottenham and Manchester City.

Tevez admits Real appeal - Sky Sports
By Alex Dunn - Created on 30 Jun 2007

Carlos Tevez has conceded that he would like to play for Real Madrid, but as
yet, the Spanish champions have not made an offer for his services.
The 23-year-old Argentine is currently on international duty in Venezuela at
the Copa America, with his advisor Kia Joorabchian having previously stated
that no decisions would be made until the close of the tournament.
However, that has not stopped Tevez from speaking to the press and, he has
now confirmed that a move to the Spanish capital is an appetising option,
which somewhat contradicts Joorabchian's claim that his heart is set on
staying in England.
"I would like to play at Real Madrid, but there is no offer from Real
Madrid. I have yet to hear anything from Real," he told Radio Punta.
It has previously been speculated that the diminutive forward was keen to
move to Internazionale but on Friday, this was disputed by Joorabchian and,
on this occasion, it would appear his claim can be vindicated by Tevez.
"I do not prefer to go to Inter Milan," he concluded. "That is a lie.
"It has not come out of my mouth. It is not true, because I have not signed
anything with Inter or with anybody. I am awaiting offers and I will see
which is the best for me.
"I don`t know what will happen next season."

Hammers nail Gers for Faubert - Sky Sports
By Peter ORourke - Created on 1 Jul 2007

West Ham are set to beat Rangers to the signing of Bordeaux's Julien Faubert
after outbidding the Scottish side.
Rangers have been chasing the French international all summer and have
already seen one bid rejected by Bordeaux.
Faubert had expressed an interest in joining Rangers and went on strike last
week in a bid to force Bordeaux to do business with the Scottish giants.
Bordeaux chairman Jean-Louis Triaud warned Rangers earlier this week that
they had received a better bid from another club for the 23-year-old.
Faubert's agent Philippe Sol has revealed that West Ham are the club to have
hijacked Rangers' move for the midfielder and that Bordeaux have accepted
the bid from The Hammers.
"It was substantially more than any cash on the table from Rangers and
Julien was given an ultimatum by Bordeaux: West Ham or nowhere," Sol told
the Sunday Herald.
"They were no longer interested in talking with Rangers and after everything
that went on with Julien last week there really wasn't a way back for him at
Bordeaux.
"He wanted to go to Rangers and had given them his word. Everything he did
last week was about moving to Rangers and he wasn't looking to line up a

Motta eyes England move - Sky Sports
By Mark Buckingham - Created on 1 Jul 2007

Thiago Motta is chasing a move to the Premier League after being told he can
leave Barcelona.
The midfielder is being pushed out of Camp Nou following the midweek
acquisition of Yaya Toure from Monaco.
He is hoping to persuade Barca to allow him to move on a free transfer and
he has already been linked with Manchester City, Middlesbrough and West Ham
United.
The Brazilian feels he would suit the English game and is now looking for
Barca to tear up the final 12 months of his contract.
"I've spent my entire career at Barcelona, so if our coach is not interested
in me I expect the gesture of them making it easy for me to move on," Motta
is quoted in the Sunday Mirror.
"If I am a free agent it will be easy to find a new club.
"The Premier League is sensational and has a style that's perfectly suited
to the way I play.
"I've played many games against English opposition and believe I can enjoy
football in England.
"The key at the moment is to sort out my Barca situation."

Hammers agree Faubert deal - Sky Sports
By Lewis Rutledge - Created on 1 Jul 2007

West Ham have reached an agreement with Bordeaux to sign Julien Faubert.
Faubert's agent Philippe Sol revealed earlier on Sunday that Bordeaux had
already accepted a bid from The Hammers.
And the French club have now confirmed they are ready to sell Faubert once
he passes his medical for West Ham.
"We've reached an agreement with West Ham," Bordeaux chairman Jean-Louis
Triaud told reporters.
"Faubert is in London to have a medical which means his move is going well."
Rangers had looked firm favourites to sign Faubert even though Bordeaux
recently rejected an offer from the Glasgow club.
Faubert was keen to join Rangers and refused to train with the Bordeaux
squad after they had turned the bid down.
According to the French media, Rangers had offered ?6million (£4million).
Faubert, who scored for France on his full international debut last August,
is a defensive midfielder who can also play at full-back.

The Tevez Effect : Or How Joorabchian is still dicking us about - WHO
Ged - Sun Jul 1 2007

A lot has been written about us and Carlitos in the last few months, most of
it sensational and mostly untrue, as journalists seem prepared to run with
any old guff to fill column inches.

This whole arbitration affair, which Kevin McCabe has rather cleverly
muddied by keeping the press focused on what he wants the issue to be,
rather than the actual purpose of the arbitration panel, has provided the
lazier elements of the press with enough beer and skittles to last them all
summer until the actual season starts, without any discernible effort on
their part.

In the mean time though, Joorabchian is seemingly touting Carlitos around to
any that will listen, despite the fact that Eggert Magnusson insists that we
have him until 2010 at least. And all the while journalists are writing
articles purporting to carry quotes from Tevez himself about where he will
or won't be playing football next season, all of which is more than a tad
frustrating.

But if we hold Tevez registration and if he is going to be a Hammer until
2010, what is the purpose of Joorabchian talking up all these stories about
moves and linking Carlitos with every major club in Europe? Is it because
he's still angry at not getting West Ham? I don't doubt that he feels
aggrieved to have missed out on buying a prime shop for his business, for
him to bring and sell on his various players from around the world. But
until situation between us and Tevez is sorted beyond doubt, Joorabchian
will continue to have influence through the press on the future of our club
in so far as the presence of a player of Tevez quality is an obvious
attraction to other prospective players, the presence of doubt does us no
favours.

It is my belief (and obviously I could be entirely wrong) that outcome of
his contractual situation will significantly influence the calibre of player
we will be able to attract this summer. Finally putting this whole Tevez
thing to bed will send out a statement of intent beyond doubt that we are a
club looking to compete at the highest level and that will in turn aid the
management team in attracting higher calibre players. If on the other hand,
despite what our chairman has said, Tevez goes and plays for a Chelsea or an
Arsenal next season, then we will look to all the world to be a middling
premiership club with a lot of cash to splash.

With the window now open hopefully we'll see the arrival of one or two
seriously quality contenders at the club, which will in turn reduce the
effect of Joorabchian's apparent press campaign. But until we actually make
those first signings I fear that paper talk about Carlitos' future will
continue and us fans will have to continue living on our nerves.

You'd think we'd be used to it by now.

Defoe Bid Lodged With Spurs Today - West Ham Till I Die
June 30th, 2007

This is only single-sourced, but it is from the same person who told me
Calum Davenport was about to sign for us in January, so I passi ton for what
it is worth. It seems Eggert Magnusson has lodged a sizeable bid with Spurs
to ecure Jermain Defoe's services. He knows Defoe is nervous about returning
to West Ham because of the likely reaction from a section of the fans, but
Magnusson is hoping it will be clear to him that he will be fourth in the
running for a first team place at Spurs now they have signed Darren Bent.
I remain of the view that Defoe is a class player who would be a brilliant
acquisition for us. He scored plenty of goals for Spurs last season despite
not being in the team some of the time. He would provide a good contrast to
Dean Ashton and ought to play well off him. I hope this rumour has some
truth to it.

Big guns ready for Tevez tussle - TeamTalk

Arsenal are reportedly preparing to battle it out with Manchester United for
the loan signing of West Ham striker Carlos Tevez.
The News of the World claims Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has identified Tevez
as the ideal replacement for Thierry Henry following the Frenchman's move to
Barcelona.
However, it is thought Arsenal cannot afford the £28million asking price for
a permanent deal and are instead preparing a £9million package to fund his
wages and registration rights on a season-long loan.
United boss Alex Ferguson is also thought to be in the hunt for the
Argentine and may also favour a loan deal because of uncertainty over the
player's ownership.
Tevez seems certain to leave Upton Park this summer after helping to rescue
the Hammers from relegation and sources claim it is between United and
Arsenal for his services if he chooses to stay in England.
Inter Milan and Real Madrid are also interested, but it is thought Tevez may
prefer to stay in England after his representative Kia Joorabchian was last
week quoted as saying: "Carlos' heart is really in the Premier League".

HAMMERS WAGE IN WITH NEW TEVEZ BID - Sunday Mirror
By Simon Mullock 01/07/2007

CARLOS TEVEZ has been told by West Ham that they will match any wage offer
to keep him at Upton Park.
The Argentine international turned down a move to Inter Milan last week so
that he could keep open his dialogue with West Ham, while both Manchester
United and Arsenal have indicated that they are keen.
Hammers owner Eggert Magnusson has reinforced his desire to keep Tevez
following his role in keeping West Ham in the Premiership last season by
assuring him that money will not be a problem.
The 23-year-old was at the centre of a dual ownership storm after being
loaned to the Londoners by agent Kia Joorabchian, who is looking to pocket a
fee of £30m from any club looking to sign Tevez. West Ham would be willing
to draw up another loan agreement - but with United and Arsenal lurking that
may not become an option.
Chelsea and Liverpool are also monitoring the situation, but neither are
likely to match the financial package it'll cost to land him.
Both United and Arsenal are in the market for a striker, with Sir Alex
Ferguson ready to raise funds by selling Alan Smith, Louis Saha, Giuseppe
Rossi and Gerard Pique and Arsene Wenger looking to replace Thierry Henry.
In the end, it is likely to come down to Tevez's choice between money and
ambition.
Magnusson wants to turn West Ham into a Premiership force, but United,
Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea can all offer Champions League football.
Tevez has said that he will decide his future after the Copa America.

Friend or (De)foe? - KUMB
Filed: Sunday, 1st July 2007
By: Alex Shilling

As the transfer market approaches fever pitch with clubs seemingly signing
anyone who isn't screwed down (eg Wigan signing Titus Bramble), it is
crucial that teams hang on to their best players whilst raiding other clubs
for their best assets.
We seem to be doing the former successfully (Reo-Coker and Benayoun being
the probable exceptions, but would you really call them our best players
after last season?) and are also looking good on the latter front, with
Craig Bellamy, Juan Riquelme and Darren Bent being but three of the players
being linked with a move to Upton Park in recent weeks.

Of course, the Darren Bent rumour nearly turned from dream to reality, but
the bubbles faded and died at the last second. After a £16million fee was
agreed, the player, for reasons which I prefer not to go into, pulled the
plug on the move and joined Tottenham instead.

Am I distraught? Does my face look distraught? Possibly not. The fee we
would have ended up paying for Bent would have been around £20million after
contract perks and wages and all that kerfuffle. Thanks to Eggy's millions,
the transfer fee would not have been a problem, but is a player who has only
played two seasons in the top flight really worth all that money?

When you glance at Bent's statistics, they look impressive ('but the game's
not played on paper, Clive!' Circa FIFA 2006.) 18 goals in his first
Premiership season - to top being the highest English scorer in the top
flight - almost earned him a place in England's world cup squad. The
following season, despite Charlton's relegation, Bent still managed to amass
12 goals.

He is clearly a class act, a genuine out-and-out striker who can fend for
himself and got many of those goals through stunning individual efforts,
that came off his own bat - goals that made you wonder what he was doing at
the Valley, playing for a team doomed to relegation. Charlton often relied
solely on Bent for goals, usually packing the midfield and leaving him up
front on his own.

Perhaps if they had used him slightly more sparingly or in a different role,
they might have stayed up. Regardless of this, Bent is a wonderful target
man, a player who you can really rely on to pick up loose balls, turn the
defender and get his shot in.

For this reason, I was surprised that Spurs took him on because like us,
they like to pass the ball around, play it to feet, and Bent doesn't seem to
fit this mould. He would have found life at Upton Park difficult as we only
tend to play it long when we're on a losing run and confidence is low! At
West Ham, the long ball is the mark of defeat.

In all the time I have been watching us, I have only ever seen us win 'ugly'
once, in a shocking game played in torrential downpour at home to West Brom
in which Sheringham scored the winner from a long Tomas Repka punt. We, like
generations of creative, skilful teams before us, have not mastered the
technique of playing terribly but still winning. I doubt we ever will. And
that's just the way I like it.

The arrival of Bent at White Hart Lane flung another rumour into the mill -
Jermain Defoe. He struggled to make a regular first-team spot his last
season, falling behind Berbatov, Keane and Mido in the pecking order. Defoe
had made his dissatisfaction clear and handed in a transfer request. Various
northern clubs were reportedly interested, Everton and Newcastle among them.
The striker, however, didn't fancy a move up north, and so the wheel of
fortune landed on us.

Would Defoe return to Upton Park, despite being reviled by sections of the
fans for handing in a transfer request the day after our 2003 relegation? He
soon rubbished this rumour by saying he would never return to Upton Park,
but the move looks increasingly likely now following Bent's arrival, and
Defoe himself has admitted the switch could be possible.

Just think about it. England's future forward line PLUS Carlos Tevez,
starting for us against Manchester City on 11th August. The history is in
the future, my friends...

Tevez delays decision on future - BBC Sport

West Ham striker Carlos Tevez will not make a decision over his future until
after the Copa America.
Tevez, 23, has been linked with several clubs after keeping West Ham in the
Premier League, but is playing for Argentina in the Copa in Venezuela.
His representative Kia Joorabchian said: "Carlos is playing in the Copa and
that is where his prime focus is.
"We intend talking more seriously about his future when the Copa is over. At
the moment there is no development."
The Copa America final is on 14 July.
On Thursday, Tevez ruled out a move to Italian champions Inter Milan after
they imposed a deadline for him to make a decision.
But Joorabchian said Tevez was keen to stay in the Premier League and
several clubs have been linked with a move for him.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool are all rumoured to be interested,
while West Ham are keen to keep him at Upton Park.
Tevez was inspirational in the Hammers' run-in at the end of the season,
scoring the winner on the final day as they won 1-0 at Man Utd to stay up.
Tevez said in May that he was keen to move away from Upton Park saying: "I
want to join one of Europe's big clubs, that's what I've talked to my agents
about."

Cisse to snub English overtures - Sky Sports
By Tom Adams - Created on 29 Jun 2007

Djibril Cisse's agent has confirmed that the Liverpool striker will snub
interest from three English clubs to join Marseille.
The French international spent the season on loan with l'OM and is now set
on finalising a permanent move, despite interest from the Premier League.
West Ham, Portsmouth and Bolton had all shown interest in Cisse, according
to his agent Ranko Stojic.
"Marseille is definitely the choice for Djibril," Stojic told the BBC. "I
think the deal will happen on Friday or Saturday.
"I have been very busy this week - I caught six planes in two days - and I
am sorry for the people I have not had the chance to call back, Mr Eggert
Magnusson of West Ham for example.
"The Marseille option is the best choice for Djibril because of the
Champions League.
"West Ham, Bolton and Portsmouth I understand are very, very good clubs but
Djibril wants to play in the top level of European competition next season."
Marseille will be looking for Cisse to play a leading role in their UEFA
Champions League campaign next season after losing attacking talisman Franck
Ribery to Bayern Munich.

Barca star distanced from England move - Daily Mail
Last updated at 15:00pm on 29th June 2007

Ludovic Giuly's agent has distanced the Barcelona winger from a move to the
Premier League following reported interest from clubs including West Ham.
Alain Migliaccio said on www.skysports.com: "Ludo refused Benitez and
Liverpool last year, so he won't join West Ham or Newcastle now."
With Nigel Reo-Coker expected to leave, Curbishley has signed midfielder
Scott Parker and wants to bolster his squad further.
Kevin Nolan had been suggested as a possible target but the midfielder
intends to impress under the new management at Bolton after Sam Allardyce's
departure and Sammy Lee's appointment.
"It's going to be a test for me to prove myself to another manager," he
said. "I was delighted that he got the job. I think he will be fantastic and
hopefully we can take off and go even further from where Sam left us."
Darren Bent turned down the Hammers for a move to Spurs, but it is
understood that Mark Noble is willing to extend his contract after
impressing for England Under-21s at the recent European Championships.
Meanwhile Keith Peacock has left the coaching staff of West Ham to take a
break from football.
The former Charlton player spent a year at Upton Park and was appointed
assistant to boss Alan Pardew last October before Alan Curbishley took the
reins.
"I feel that now is the right time to take a break," said Peacock on club
website www.whufc.com.
"It will give me more time to spend with the family and grandchildren, which
is something I am greatly looking forward to."

Lucas preparing for Asian Cup campaign - WHUFC - Official Site
28/06/2007 16:06

Lucas Neill will be one notable absentee when West Ham United players return
to pre-season training at Chadwell Heath on Monday.
The Hammers right-back is currently back home in Australia preparing with
his international team-mates for the Asian Cup tournament, which kicks off
in south-east Asia next week.
The Socceroos make their first appearance in the continental championship
after moving into the Asian confederation at the start of last year and go
into the competition as one of the favourites to lift the trophy.

However, Lucas insists that they won't have a comfortable ride as they go up
against the best of Asian football, including defending champions Japan.

"I wouldn't say we're the favourites," he says. "I would say we're one of
the stronger teams.

"Japan are obviously favourites because they're more experienced at this
level and in this environment and we're coming here trying to challenge
teams such as them.

"So we have to approach it with a different mentality but we've still got a
lot to prove because we're the new kids on the block."
Australia face Oman on July 8, Iraq on July 13 and Thailand on July 16 in
their group matches and will qualify for the next phase by finishing in the
top two.

The final will be held in Indonesia on July 29.

Keith stepping down to take a break - WHUFC - Official Site
29/06/2007 11:01

Keith Peacock has revealed that he is stepping down from his role at West
Ham United to take a break from football after nearly half a century of
involvement in the game.

The former Charlton Athletic favourite is leaving Upton Park after spending
a year on the coaching staff working for both Alan Pardew and Alan
Curbishley, and admits the time is now right to step back from football's
'front line'.

"I've been very fortunate to have spent more than 45 years as a player,
coach and a manager and I feel that now is the right time to take a break,"
says Keith.

"Apart from a three-month spell back in 1991, I haven't really had a break
from the game during all that time, and in terms of coaching, it was always
my intention to take a step back at this stage of my life.

"I'm sure I will always have a connection with the game in some form or
another," he adds, "but I am certainly retiring from what I call the 'front
line' of football, when - as a player, coach or a manager - you are focused
so intensely on that result on a Saturday afternoon.

"I think it's time to reflect a little, take a nice long break and then
think about things from there. It will give me more time to spend with the
family and grandchildren, which is something I am greatly looking forward
to."

And despite only spending 12 months of that long-serving career at Upton
Park, Keith insists he will always have a special place in his heart for the
Hammers.

"It has certainly been a remarkable experience," he says. "I think West Ham
United probably packed more into last season than most clubs do in a five
year period!"

"It was certainly a dramatic campaign, but the main thing is that it
finished with a happy ending and, I've got to say, if you are looking to
finish on a high, then winning 1-0 at Old Trafford is definitely the way to
do it! That was a very special day.

"I've made a lot of friends at the Club and have really enjoyed my time
here. I wish West Ham United all the very best and look forward to following
the team from a distance in the future."

Tevez rejects move to Inter Milan - BBC Sport

West Ham striker Carlos Tevez has turned down a move to Inter Milan after
the Italian champions imposed a deadline for him to make a decision.
The 23-year-old has been linked to several clubs in England and abroad but
is keen to stay in the Premier League.
A statement from Tevez's representative Kia Joorabchian said: "Inter put a
deadline on the decision and Carlos' heart is really in the Premier League.
"He was not prepared to meet that cut-off point put on him."
Tevez said in May that he was keen to move away from Upton Park saying: "I
want to join one of Europe's big clubs, that's what I've talked to my agents
about."
Joorabchian, though, insisted that the Hammers are in talks to keep the
Argentina international but played down reports of a £115,000 per week being
offered to convince him to stay.
The Iranian businessman added: "That is "absolutely not true".
"He has not been offered that sum of money to stay, but it is true we are
still talking and hope to come to some arrangement."
Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Inter were among the clubs strongly
linked with a move for Tevez but Inter have ruled themselves out of the
running due to their demands.
Inter president Massimo Moratti told his club website: "Tevez is no longer a
target, we are fine as we are in attack."
The forward was instrumental in the West Ham's successful battle to avoid
relegation last season after a difficult start to hi Upton Park career.
Tevez moved from Corinthians last summer but the Hammers were subsequently
fined a record £5.5m by an independent commission for breaching Premier
League rules.

Blades may learn fate on Tuesday - BBC Sport

Sheffield United could learn their relegation fate from a Premier League
arbitration panel on Tuesday.
A verdict was expected before the end of June, but BBC Sport understands it
will be delivered next week.
The Blades claim West Ham should have been docked points for breaking
transfer rules over the signings of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano.
West Ham stayed up at the Blades' expense on the final day of the season,
leading to Sheffield United's appeal.
West Ham had earlier been fined £5.5m by the Premier League for their
handling of the deals for the two Argentina internationals.
The arbitration tribunal can order a new disciplinary commission be set up
to review the West Ham case, or rule that the Premier League handled the
affair completely by the book.
A third option would be for the tribunal to declare that there are no
grounds to order a new disciplinary commission for West Ham but that
Sheffield United could have a case for compensation - but that verdict too
would open a can of worms by effectively saying that the original commission
acted inappropriately.

Monaco hope for Giuly return - SkySports
By Patrick Haond - Created on 29 Jun 2007

Barcelona winger Ludovic Giuly appears reluctant to move to the Premier
League, but would consider a return to Monaco.
Giuly has previously stated he wants to stay at Camp Nou, but has been
linked with a ?5million (£3.4million) exit over the summer.
Speculation has claimed that Newcastle United and West Ham United want the
France international, who was formerly a target for Liverpool.
But his agent Alain Migliaccio is ruling out the English option, and also
concedes Barca's asking price is prohibiting a move back to Monaco.
"Ludo refused Benitez and Liverpool last year, so he won't join West Ham or
Newcastle now," said Migliaccio.
"Indeed, with Monaco we had a talk, but as long as Barcelona will ask for
such a fee, nothing will happen."
Monaco's sporting director Jean-Luc Ettori confirmed the interest in the
midfielder and hopes the pull of a return to Stade Louis II will persuade
Giuly to accept a wage cut.
Ettori told France Football: "I had a phone call with Ludo. He knows we want
him.
"He also knows we can't go far beyond certain financial conditions. Other
clubs could offer him better wages, but we have other assets.
"He knows the club and knows we appreciate him. It is the right year for his
comeback. We need him now."

Tevez 'turns down' Inter - SkySports
By Mark Buckingham - Created on 28 Jun 2007

West Ham United striker Carlos Tevez appears to be leaning towards staying
in the Premier League after declining to meet Internazionale's deadline.
Tevez is weighing up his club future and has been linked with the likes of
Arsenal, Liverpool, Inter and Real Madrid.
Inter had expressed an interest in signing the Argentine, but president
Massimo Moratti revealed earlier on Thursday that Tevez was 'no longer an
objective'.
According to the forward's representative Kia Joorabchian, Inter had set a
deadline for the player to make a decision on a move to the Serie A
champions.
Joorabchian admits Tevez was not willing to meet that demand, particularly
as he seems keen to stay in English football.
"Inter put a deadline on the decision and Carlos' heart is really in the
Premier League, so he was not prepared to meet that cut-off point," said
Joorabchian in a statement.
Tevez, who has yet to rule out staying at West Ham next season, is currently
in Venezuela on Copa America duty with the Argentine national team.
Joorabchian also dismissed suggestions that Tevez has been offered a
£100,000-a-week contract to stay at Upton Park.
He added: "He has not been offered that sum of money to stay, but it is true
we are still talking and hope to come to some arrangement."

Inter out of Tevez running - SkySports
By Mark Buckingham - Created on 28 Jun 2007

Internazionale have ended any interest in signing Carlos Tevez from West Ham
United.
The Argentine striker had emerged as a target for the Serie A champions as
he considers his future at Upton Park.
Tevez admitted he would prefer a move to Inter ahead of Real Madrid, who
have also expressed an interest in the forward.
But a switch to Giuseppe Meazza no longer appears to be an option for Tevez
after Inter captured David Suazo from Cagliari.
"He is no longer our objective," said Inter president Massimo Moratti in
reference to Tevez.
"We are fine as we are in attack."
Tevez's compatriot Hernan Crespo has already expressed his concern at the
number of strikers in Inter's squad, with the likes of Adriano, Zlatan
Ibrahimovic and Julio Cruz also on the books.
Moratti feels Crespo may have a valid point, although the Inter supremo did
not rule out further comings and goings before the start of next season.
He added: "Crespo's declarations weren't interpreted well, but the Argentine
may be right when he says there are too many of us in attack.
"However, our buying and selling hasn't finished yet."

Top clubs on alert as Tevez snubs Inter - Daily Telegraph
By Tim Rich
Last Updated: 1:50am BST 29/06/2007

Liverpool and Manchester United were last night put on alert when West Ham
striker Carlos Tevez turned down a move to Inter Milan and expressed his
desire to remain a Premiership player.
The 23-year-old Argentina international, who was instrumental in West Ham's
successful battle to avoid relegation, is expected to leave Upton Park in
the summer.
Inter and Real Madrid are among several clubs to have shown interest, but a
statement from Tevez's representative, Kia Joorabchian, said last night:
"Inter put a deadline on the decision and Carlos' heart is really in the
Premier League." That could tempt United and also Liverpool, who last season
signed compatriot Javier Mascherano.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are close to agreeing a fee for striker Fernando
Torres that would smash the club's transfer record.
advertisement
Atletico Madrid appear to have accepted Liverpool's offer of £20 million
plus Luis Garcia, who is apparently happy to return to the Vincente Calderon
Stadium where he spent a season before his transfer to Barcelona four years
ago. The cash-plus-player deal would satisfy the £27 million release clause
in Torres' contract.

Nolan keen to stay on at Bolton - TeamTalk

Kevin Nolan has cooled speculation linking him with a move to West Ham by
insisting he is "excited" about playing under Sammy Lee at Bolton.
Nolan is thought to be on Hammers boss Alan Curbishley's summer shopping
list as a replacement for Nigel Reo-Coker, who is expected to seal a switch
to Aston Villa.
But midfielder Nolan insists he is focused on keeping his place in the
Trotters first team as he prepared to fly out for a week-long training camp
in Austria.
He told The Bolton News: "I'm really really excited about this season so
it's up to me to make sure that I am in the team week in, week out.
"It should be good. I'm looking forward to the pre-season and getting fit
and ready. Hopefully, I'll be raring to go come 11 August and have a good
start against Newcastle United."
Nolan also insisted he was prepared to prove himself to new boss Lee after
he replaced Sam Allardyce at the end of last season.
"It's going to be a test for me to prove myself to another manager," Nolan
added.
"Sam Allardyce knew what I was all about. He brought me into the team as a
17-year-old kid and at times you could rest on your laurels because he knows
what you can do.
"Sammy has only known me for a couple of years and has only known me as an
assistant manager really. Now he's the top man, I've got to impress him
because you don't always see eye to eye with your assistant manager.
"That wasn't the case with Sammy and I was delighted that he got the job. I
think he will be fantastic and hopefully we can take off and go even further
from where Sam left us.
"Given time, support and patience I am sure that he will be able to do
that."

Cahill and Arteta stick with Toffees - TeamTalk

Everton have ended any uncertainty over the futures of Tim Cahill and Mikel
Arteta by agreeing new five-year contracts with the key pair.
The Toffees are believed to have put the midfield stars on parity with the
club's top earners.
Cahill is currently with the Australia squad preparing for the Asian Cup
having recovered from the broken foot injury that wrecked the end of his
last campaign, while Arteta will return to pre-season training with the
Toffees next week.
Boss David Moyes is particularly pleased to have tied Arteta to a long term
deal, saying: "We are delighted with how he (Arteta) has done. He has played
really, really well last season.
"We like his skills and ability but he has grown into the team ethic that we
have here and I think that has been the reason he has done so well."
Both players had three years of their current deals to go, but the arrival
of Andrew Johnson has seemingly created a wages gap between the England
striker and current key first team players.
Johnson and Joseph Yobo are believed to be the club's top earners on around
£45,000 a week, and now both Cahill and Arteta seemingly have been rewarded
with similar deals.
Everton have also ended any uncertainties over the futures of both players.
Arteta has been on the shopping list of several Spanish clubs, including
Atletico Madrid, and pointedly talked of acquiring a new deal at the end of
last season when he was voted Everton's Player of the Season.
And both he and Cahill had been the subject of speculation linking them with
West Ham earlier in the summer, as was striker Johnson.
At the time an angry boss David Moyes insisted that "West Ham couldn't
afford our players, any of them."
And now Everton have agreed new five-year deals with the pair, tying them to
the club until 2012.
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright is delighted to have concluded the
negotiations.
He told the club's website: "David Moyes and myself were keen to get these
important extensions wrapped up before the new season opens. We did it in
the Everton way - quietly, efficiently and away from the glare of the
spotlight.
"Negotiations have been ongoing for several weeks and have now been
satisfactorily concluded and I know the two lads are as happy as we are."
The formalities of the new deals are set to be completed next week, with
Moyes and the majority of his senior squad returning to pre-season training
on Monday.
Between them, Arteta and Cahill have monopolised the official Everton Player
of the Season award in recent years, with the Aussie free-scoring midfielder
receiving it in 2005 and the Spanish play maker picking up the accolade in
each of the last two seasons.
Cahill is currently preparing for the Asia Cup with Australia after
recovering from a broken foot.
Arteta will report back at Bellefield for pre-season training next week.

One in, one out - KUMB
Filed: Friday, 29th June 2007

Keith Peacock has stepped down from his position as assistant manager -
after less than a year in the job.
Peacock - who was brought to West Ham from Charlton by former boss Alan
Pardew last July as head coach before replacing Peter Grant as Pardew's
number two in October - announced his decision to quit this morning.

Talking to whufc.com, Peacock explained his decision to quit the game after
45 years' involvement.

"I've been very fortunate and I feel that now is the right time to take a
break," he said.

"Apart from a three-month spell back in 1991, I haven't really had a break,
and it was always my intention to take a step back at this stage of my life.

"I think it's time to reflect a little, take a nice long break and then
think about things from there. It will give me more time to spend with the
family, which is something I am greatly looking forward to.

"It has certainly been a remarkable experience [at West Ham]. I think we
probably packed more into last season than most clubs do in a five year
period!

"But the main thing is that it finished with a happy ending at Old Trafford.
That was a very special day."

Peacock's successor is likely to be another former Charlton man, Glyn
Snodin, whose appointment as first-team coach was confirmed earlier this
week.

O'Neill must pay £9m for midfielder - Eat Sleep Sport.com
Fri, Jun 29 2007 10:16

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has reportedly been told he must pay
£9million if he wants to sign West Ham midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker.Reo-Coker
is one of O'Neill's main transfer targets during the close season this
summer and has already had a bid of £7million rejected by Hammers manager
Alan Curbishley.
O'Neill remains keen on bringing the 23-year-old former England Under-21
captain to Villa Park but he is said to have been told he must match West
Ham's valuation if he is to do so.
Manchester City are also understood to be interested in Reo-Coker, who has
made no secret of his desire to leave Upton Park before the start of the new
campaign.
O'Neill said: "We're looking to strengthen the squad in the next month and
we want to be in a position where we can challenge.
"But I don't want to talk about who those players are, because we seem to
have been linked with almost everybody.
"Supporters can be rest assured we'll be strengthening and we'll let them
know as soon as there's anything to report."

Charlton And Ipswich Owe West Ham Big Time - WestHamFans.org
Submitted by Neville Nixon on 28 June, 2007 - 19:59.
With the news that Darren Bent is about to sign for Tottenham for a fee
believed to be around the £15.5 Million mark, Charlton Athletic and Ipswich
Town are the benefactors of West Ham United's spread shot approach to
acquiring players. Although the lessons of 'the Bent Affair' have been well
and truly learned by Eggert Magnusson and those that matter at West Ham, it
seems that Bent's high price has shown just how extreme the shortage of
genuine available talent to premier league clubs is. Charlton are set to
make a massive £13 Million profit from the sale, and Ipswich get a 25% sell
on that will net them £2.75 Million. Having gone in 'Big' for Bent, Hammers
set the precedent for the players value, but realistically Bent might get a
few goals, but is far from the finished article.. Many fans are happy that
Hammers were not held over a barrel because of Bent, it is hoped that future
targets are more keenly thought out, after all, there is a lot of talent out
there, the Copa America is a freebie for the scouts. Hammers could be in the
frame for some exotic fare, it beats jellied eels you know!

Snodin looking forward to the challenge - WHUFC Official Site
27/06/2007 14:47

New First Team Coach Glynn Snodin has spoken of his delight at the prospect
of teaming up with Alan Curbishley and Mervyn Day again.

The 47-year-old was appointed on to the coaching staff this week having left
his post at Southampton, and admits he can't wait to renew a working
relationship that first began at Charlton Athletic eight years ago.

"I'm very much looking forward to the challenge," says Glynn. "West Ham
United is a massive Club and I am delighted to have been offered this
opportunity.

"To work with Curbs and Merv again will be fantastic, because I have a lot
of respect for them both and enjoyed some great times with them when we
worked together previously.

"Obviously I was on a different level then as I worked with the reserve
team, but Curbs always had a keen interest in that side of things, and he
was very influential on me as I progressed as a coach.

"To team up with him again in the Premiership is a great honour and I hope
we can enjoy a lot of success together at West Ham United."

Having spent six years under Curbs at The Valley, the popular Yorkshireman
moved to Southampton as First Team Coach in March 2006, and admits he can't
wait for the challenge of working with top Premiership players at Upton
Park.

"I just love being out on the field, coaching and being involved with the
players," he says. "I like to keep the mood happy and positive, and have a
laugh with the lads, but at the same time push them to work hard and play to
their full potential.

"These are players at the very top of their profession, so it isn't so much
about coaching them technically, more just making sure they are confident,
motivated and enjoying their football.

"Man-management is very important, and the first requirement of any coach is
to get that mutual respect with the players. That builds the platform for a
good working relationship and hopefully means you can get the best out of
individuals."

And having enjoyed an 18-year playing career as a full-back with the likes
of Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United and Oldham Athletic,
Glynn also enjoyed a few playing appearances at Upton Park over the years,
recalling one particular Hammers opponent with a smile.

"I do remember a few tussles at West Ham down the years, especially with
Mark Ward!" he says. "Mark was a tough little winger and we had some good
battles. I always used to enjoy playing at Upton Park, though, because the
atmosphere was terrific and the fans were always so passionate.

"Hopefully, it will be just the same next season, with the team playing good
football and winning matches. I'm looking forward to being a part of that
and am very excited about the future here."

Mascherano wants Tevez reunion - Sky Sports
By Carla Hilton - Created on 28 Jun 2007

Javier Mascherano has urged his former team-mate Carlos Tevez to join him at
Liverpool.

Tevez looks certain to leave West Ham before the season starts and has been
strongly linked with a move to Internazionale this summer.

The duo, who are currently playing in the Copa America tournament, signed
for West Ham at the start of last season and it was Tevez' goal against
Manchester United that kept the Hammers in the Premier League for the coming
season.

Liverpool midfielder Mascherano believes the best move for his former
team-mate would be to remain in England and make the move to Anfield.

Mascherano told the Daily Star: "It would be nice to play with Carlos again.

"Right now we are together in the Copa America and it's great.

"We'll see what is going to happen before the start of next season."

Mascherano went on to praise Tevez, and although he feels he would be a
strong addition to the squad, admits the decision lies with boss Rafa
Benitez.

He added: "Carlos is a great player and he could be very useful to Liverpool
in my opinion.

"But the truth is that I would never dare to ask Rafa Benitez or any other
coach to bring a player to a club.

"If he asked me, I would tell him my opinion, but that's the only context in
which I would tell him what I think."

Neill urges quick start - Sky Sports
By Amanda Cornforth - Created on 28 Jun 2007

West Ham defender Lucas Neill is urging the side to be on the pace from the
outset next season to avoid a repeat of the last campaign.
The Hammers made a poor start last term but controversially avoided
relegation from the top flight on the final day of the season with a win
over champions Manchester United.
Australian international Neill believes Alan Curbishley's side, now owned by
Icelandic businessman Eggert Magnusson, need to be quick off the mark in
August to prevent themselves from again being embroiled in a battle to
retain their Premier League status.
"It's a long season," Neill said. "I don't think we're going to be the
champions but I think after the lessons we learned last year it's important
we get off to a good start.
"We have a chairman who has a dream, is a very ambitious guy and has very
powerful resources so, like a lot of clubs he'll be looking to spend some
money in the transfer market and hopefully him and the manager can bring in
good quality and we can look up rather than down."
Neill also reserved praise for Curbishley, who took over from Alan Pardew in
December and led the club to safety.
He added: "He's done a good job. He won seven out of the last nine games and
we have to see how cute he can be in the transfer market, bringing in good
quality in the transfer market without having to spend too much money.
"But it's all about the boys. If we start right we make his job easier, if
we don't straight away he's under pressure."
Neill's season will begin prior to the Premier League campaign as he will
feature for Australia in the Asian Cup in south-east Asia next month.

Davies denies Etherington link - Sky Sports
By Carla Hilton - Created on 28 Jun 2007

Derby boss Billy Davies has rubbished reports linking the club with a move
for West Ham winger Matthew Etherington.
Etherington has fallen out of favour under boss Alan Curbishley and had been
linked with a move to Pride Park following the Rams' promotion to the top
flight.
But Davies insists the rumours are incorrect and that Etherington is not on
his hit list.
"I can categorically say that, in the last day or so, I've had no contact
with Matthew Etherington or Matthew Etherington's agent," Davies told the
Derby Telegraph.
"I've got no idea where this story has come from but there's been no
discussion between myself and the player. I'm not sure how the papers have
come up with it.
"I've got a few irons in my fire but until things are totally concluded, I'm
not going to say much more.
"Negotiations take time.
"You can't wrap up deals quickly unless you spend silly amounts of money."

Will West Ham leave you rolling around in cash come next May? - WHO
Match Reporter - Wed Jun 27 2007

So could West Ham win the Premier League?

Well No but if you think stranger things have happened and fancy a flutter
then Skybet and Stan James give the value at 1000/1 whilst Corals and
Betfred are more cautious going only 300/1

So could West Ham blow it and get relegated?

Lets hope not but for those with their glass half empty the value lies with
Stan James at 10/1 but Bet Direct seem to think West Ham will struggle like
last season with their 4/1 quote.

West Ham to Win the league? Well without Chelsea and Man Utd anyway

Take those two out and Victor Chandler will give 125/1 that West Ham are the
next best. Bet365 and Boyles take no chances going only 50/1

Think we'll do worse then Derby?

Bet365 will give 66/1 that West Ham finish rock bottom

What if the league didn't have the Big 4? Nice idea

Would we win it then? Bet365 won't be taking the chance at 10/1. Ladbrokes
and Hill offer a more generous 16/1

Top or bottom?

Will West Ham finish in the top half or bottom half? Bet365 seem to think
it'll be the bottom half at 4/6 Disagree? 11/10 is your price

Top Scorer

Please, please, please, please be a West Ham player next season Carlos.
Tevez 40/1 (Skybet & Corals) he outscores the rest. That could well be the
bet of all time and the unthinkable happened and he ended up at one of the
top 4.

We hear Ashton is looking sharp and fit and 66/1 is a crazy price for a
player who will want to make up for lost time and force his way back into
the England team. Get on with Corals or Skybet

Of the rest Bobby Zamora is 250/1 with Skybet, a whole 100 points higher
then Marlon Harewood strangely.

Corals

Have made a nice little group bet up, West Ham are thrown in with

Blackburn 2/1
West Ham 9/4
Bolton 7/2
Man City 5/1
Reading 7/1

To come out on top

The good old sack race

If the Daily Star are to be believed we should all be rushing down to
Ladbrokes and taking the 20's about Alan Curbishley being the first manager
to leave his post

Better then 2006?

The old FA cup is many peoples betting favorite. Can we win it? Sure 80/1
with Sporting Odds is massive

How about the League Cup?

Will Alan Curbishley be the first West Ham manager to win the Carling Cup?
Totesport think it's a 40/1 chance. Ladbrokes only go half that price.

Money to burn?

Ladbroke have some specials to try and tempt the more foolish fan in

West Ham to win

The FA cup & Carling Cup 400/1
The Premier League & Carling cup 3000/1
The Premier League & FA cup 3000/1
The domestic treble 10,000/1

First day nerves?

The bookies don't think so. West Ham are odds on in most places to inflict
Sven's first defeat of the season, Coral break the ranks with an even money
quote. Sven to thief 3 point like it was the FA's money? 7/2

Freddie not ready to quit Gunners - TeamTalk

Freddie Ljungberg wants to stay at Arsenal for the rest of his career,
quashing speculation linking him with a move to Portsmouth or West Ham.
The 30-year-old had a disrupted 2006-07 season with his efforts to
re-establish himself as a regular in Arsene Wenger's side hampered by
injury.
With Wenger's emphasis on youth it appeared the Sweden midfielder might be
on the brink of a move away from the North London club - but his agent Claes
Elefalk is adamant Ljungberg wants to see out his playing days with Arsenal.
Elefalk told BBC Sport: "Freddie wants to stay at Arsenal until he stops
playing and there is a good chance that'll happen.
"This is just speculation. Freddie is most certainly not leaving Arsenal."
He continued: "Freddie has a contract with the club that goes until 2009 and
he has no thoughts at all of leaving the team.
"There has not been any contact with any other club, it is nonsense to
suggest otherwise.
"All this is is just normal, traditional transfer rumours that for players
of Freddie's calibre occurs each transfer window and has done so for the
last four years.
"Football is football, but Freddie wants to and will stay at Arsenal and
that is what we are dealing in."
The Gunners are enduring a difficult period after Thierry Henry's
£16.1million move to Barcelona prompted concern for the club's prospects
following the exit of former vice-chairman David Dein and the uncertainty
surrounding the future of Wenger.
However, Elefalk insists Ljungberg has complete faith in the future of the
club.
"Freddie is very confident about what the future holds at Arsenal, despite
Thierry leaving," said Elefalk.
"He is very confident in the team and the club and in Mr Wenger, so it is a
very good situation to be in."

£9m to keep Tevez for year - thisislondon.co.uk
28.06.07

West Ham have launched a desperate bid to keep Carlos Tevez in an
astonishing £9million one-year loan deal.
They have offered the Argentina striker a £6m salary - £115,000 a week - but
would have to pay his 'owner' Kia Joorabchian up to £3m in a loan fee.
Manager Alan Curbishley and chairman Eggert Magnusson are desperate to keep
Tevez, who almost singlehandedly ensured West Ham's survival in the
Premiership last season.
The £6m-a-year offer would make Tevez the highest paid player at Upton Park.
But by paying him wages which would put him in the same bracket as Chelsea
stars Michael Ballack and Andriy Shevchenko, West Ham hope to convince him
to snub offers from Inter and Real Madrid, both of whom are ready to pay
Joorabchian £30m.
The Hammers have had a disappointing time trying to sign players, which has
raised speculation over Curbishley's future.
Keeping Tevez would go a long way to persuading the board that they have the
right manager.
So far Darren Bent has snubbed a £75,000-a-week deal and Mark Viduka and
Joey Barton have also turned them down.
Even signing £6.5m Scott Parker from Newcastle cost them £75,000 a week.
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is considering a £3m bid for Hammers
striker Marlon Harewood after being thwarted in his attempts to sign Fredi
Kanoute and Yakubu.
He said: "If he could get 15 goals, he'd be a snip.

Nicky Shorey will snub Newcastle and West Ham by signing a new contract at

The left-back is expected to agree a £25,000-a-week deal after returning
from honeymoon on Monday.
Shorey, who grew up near West Ham's training ground in Chadwell Heath and
has family connections with the club, had previously admitted being linked
with clubs such as West Ham is flattering.
"I've been happy at Reading for a long time now but we'll just have to see
what happens," said Shorey in the Reading Evening Post. "I'm going into the
talks wanting to sort out my future with the club because I've done well at
Reading."
He added: "Interest from those clubs is definitely flattering.
"I've always wanted to do as well as I can and when you do well, speculation
will always be there. To be honest, though, I can never say never."
Reading's only signing of the transfer window so far has been Kalifa Cisse
from Boavista.

Villa ready to make fresh £7m bid for Reo-Coker - thisislondon.co.uk
28.06.07

Martin O'Neill is launching a fresh £7m bid for West Ham skipper Nigel
Reo-Coker.
This comes as Manchester City have upped their interest in Reo-Coker despite
O'Neill's summer-long pursuit.
Eastlands manager-in-waiting Sven-Goran Eriksson is reported to want the
England under-21 star after the Hammers rejected Villa's initial bid.
O'Neill is confident he can rush through a deal for the 23-year-old who is
heading off on holiday tomorrow.
Villa report for pre-season training next week and Reo-Coker, who cost West
Ham £575,000 in 2004, is believed to be very keen to make the switch.
He is also very keen to leave Upton Park with new signing Scott Parker ready
to replace him.

Hammers handed winger boost - EatSleepSport.Com
Thu, Jun 28 2007 10:39

West Ham have been boosted by the news Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips
is set to snub a return to Manchester City this summer. The England
international's first-team chances at Stamford Bridge look to be limited
although he did get a decent run towards the end of last season.
West Ham have been strongly linked with a swoop for the 25-year-old while
City also reportedly want to re-sign the player they sold to the Blues for
£21m two summers ago.
However, Wright-Phillips' adoptive father, former Arsenal ace Ian Wright,
claims his son does not fancy being managed by forthcoming City boss
Sven-Goran Eriksson following a short spell under him with the national
side.
"No, it's not happening," Wright told Talksport. "I know he loves Manchester
City. Whether he loves Manchester City with Sven in charge is another story.
"It hasn't gone as well as he would have liked at Chelsea, everyone knows
that. But he has to see how his options go, see what he's going to do with
Chelsea for a start.
"But I would categorically say the chances of Shaun going back to City, with
Eriksson as their manager, are very, very slim. Majorly slim in fact."

Aussie ace confirms Hammers snub- EatSleepSport.Com
Thu, Jun 28 2007 09:15

Striker Mark Viduka has admitted that he was tempted to join West Ham this
close-season, but in the end opted for Newcastle United. The 31-year-old
Australian international defected to the Magpies from north-east rivals
Middlesbrough this month and is desperate to make a big impact on Tyneside,
but he revealed that he turned down the opportunity to join the Hammers.
His fellow countryman and West Ham full-back Lucas Neill admitted that he
did all he could to lure the former Leeds and Celtic forward down to Upton
Park. However Viduka, who is currently preparing for Australia's Asian Cup
campaign, said: "I have been on my holidays, but what is happening at
Newcastle is exciting.
"We have new owners and it looks very promising. West Ham was tempting but
in the end, I chose Newcastle."

Jermain man! - Newham Recorder
27 June 2007

It may not be the most popular piece of news for every West Ham fan, but
Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe is being lined up for a dramatic return to
Upton Park.

The 24-year-old striker left Upton Park in 2004 under a cloud after firstly,
asking for a move the day after the Hammers had suffered relegation and
then, by going to deadly rivals Spurs.

But manager Alan Curbishley, who has so far drawn a blank in his hunt for a
top class forward to partner Dean Ashton, knows just how potent a striker
Defoe is.

The chances of getting Defoe, who has 24 full England caps and three goals,
are reliant on Darren Bent's move from Charlton to Spurs going through.

Bent, who turned down a £17million move to West Ham, is set to join Martin
Jol at White Hart Lane and that would leave the door open for Defoe's
return.

He may take a little while to win the fans over again, but a few goals can
work wonders on the hardest of supporters.

Meanwhile, Curbishley has appointed former Charlton man Glynn Snodin as his
new first team coach.

Snodin worked under the West Ham boss at the Valley, but he will come to
Upton Park from his job as first team coach under George Burley at
Southampton.

The move leaves a question mark over the future of both Keith Peacock and
Kevin Keen at the club, with the former set to leave Upton Park, while the
latter may return to coaching the reserve team in place of Steve Brown.

West Ham return for pre-season training on Monday.

Ashton shows off new kit - Newham Recorder
27 June 2007

Dean Ashton is still working hard at West Ham's Chadwell Heath training
ground as he prepares for the new season.

But he took time out to show off the club's new first team strip for
Recorder photographer Steve Bacon.

The 23-year-old is currently working with former West Ham physio John
Green - now a freelance - who has already dealt with the successful
rehabilitation of Newcastle stars Michael Owen and Kieron Dyer last season.

Ashton is hoping to make the West Ham pre-season trip to Austria in July

Hammers' girl power
By Guardian-series

NEW West Ham United Ladies first team manager Tony Marshall took time out
from his busy pre-season preparations to cast his eye over some of the
club's younger players in the Brentwood tournament.
The Hammers entered teams from three different age groups and two of the
West Ham sides came out on top.
The U16's beat the highly-rated north Kent side Long Lane in a thoroughly
entertaining final.

And the the U12's were victors over Enfield Town in their final. The U14's
fell at the semi-final stage to local rivals Barking.
Marshall was very impressed with the club's youngsters who will hopefully be
pushing for places in the clubs senior teams over the next few seasons.
He said: "While I will be busy with the senior players this season I am not
going to forget the club's junior sides.
"They are our future and I will be aiming to get to as many junior games as
I can.
"It wasn't our strongest U16 side at the Brentwood tournament, but all of
the girls worked hard and gave me a lot of food for thought for the coming
season.
"Our new U16 manager Wayne Collier led the side for the first time, and got
off to a superb start.
"I am confident that Wayne will be ideal to help push the girls through to
the next level. Our other two sides also did very well today.
"Jim Maycock has been looking after our U12 side during the summer and his
team certainly were a credit to him. I will be watching the progress of that
group with great interest over the next few years.
"Our U14's also did well, but full credit to the Barking girls.
"They deserved their win and it was a valuable lesson to our junior teams in
that, throughout the Essex Girls League, the Hammers are a big name and
quite often the opposing team will treat a match against West Ham as a cup
final."
Marshall is also very excited about the forthcoming campaign and reports
that his preparations are going very well. He added: "The seniors report
back for serious training next week but the existing squad have proved to me
in the trials that last season's League placing was not a true reflection of
their ability.
"I also have a few new signings in the pipeline and hopefully should be able
to make an announcement about that in the next few weeks.
"Also, with some of our U16s coming of age this season and likely to step up
to the reserves, the club certainly has a promising future"

Pre-season sell-out at the Daggers.

The Hammers begin their pre-season matches in England on July 14th, but
already, the first of them has sold out.

West Ham will be playing before a sell out crowd at Dagenham & Redbridge's
Victoria Road ground on that day, and it is as much a celebration for the
Daggers finally gaining promotion to the Football League as anything else,
but no doubt both teams will be taking it fairly seriously. For the others
matches, tickets are in limited numbers for Hammers' fans, and as O.T.T.
predicted, most of them will go the way of the Dagenham match and also sell
out.
Leyton Orient, who are played on July 24th, have made just over 3,500
tickets available, prices between £15 and £20, with reductions for kids
under 16 and senior citizens. The game against the MK Dons (now managed by
Paul Ince, following the departure of Martin Allen to Leicester City) is the
following day, but ticket details have not yet been finslied; this is one
that may not sell out... For Southend on July 28th, an allocation of 2,100
tickets at £20 (£10 for kids and senior citizens) has been given. Norwich
have given us only 500 tickets for the game on July 31st, though they are
only £12 (£7 seniors and £3 for kids).
Finally, a home game against Italian side, AS Roma, has been arranged for
August 4th, with tickets ranging from £9 to £15 for adults, £4.50 to £7.50
for seniors and young adults {16 - 21}), and £1 for kids.
The players flew out to Austria today (June 28th), to begin pre-season
preparations.
