Zavon Hines has departed West Ham United and joined npower Championship club
Burnley
18.08.2011
West Ham United can confirm that Zavon Hines has joined Burnley on a
permanent basis. The 22-year-old forward has linked up with the Clarets
after his contract at the Boleyn Ground expired this summer. The club
offered him an improved contract but that was rejected, meaning compensation
will need to be agreed with Burnley.
Hines, who had been training with the Hammers in pre-season, joined the club
as a schoolboy and went on to graduate from the club's famous Academy in
2007.
The Jamaica-born player enjoyed a loan spell at Coventry City in 2008 before
scoring on his West Ham debut in a Carling Cup second-round victory over
Macclesfield Town on 27 August of the same year. A succession of knee
injuries slowed Hines' progress, but he made a number of eye-catching
Premier League performances, most notably against Liverpool and Aston Villa
at the Boleyn Ground in 2009. In total, Hines made 22 first-team appearances
for the Hammers, scoring three goals.
The club would like to thank Zavon for his efforts and wish him all the best
for the future.

youth system, will be set by a tribunal. The England under-21 international
has agreed a two-year deal at Turf Moor after rejecting the offer of a new
contract with the London club. He told the Burnley website: "I need a fresh
start and Burnley seems a good club to me."

Zavon Hines has thanked West Ham fans for their support on the day his move
to Burnley was confirmed. As revealed here on KUMB.com on Monday, Hines has
completed a permanent switch to United's Championship rivals. The
22-year-old striker has signed a two-year deal with the Clarets. However
Hines still found time to thank Hammers fans for their support during his
time at the club - whilst revealing that he felt unwanted by the new
management team, led by Sam Allardyce. "I'm sad to [be leaving] West Ham but
I wasn't wanted at the club," he told followers on Twitter. "That's why I
didn't play any games in pre-season, so I hope you can understand. "I would
like to thank all the West Ham fans for all the support and nice Tweets, I
love the club and that will never change."
In a rather more formal interview on Burnley's club site tonight, he added:
"I need a fresh start and I am looking forward to playing for Burnley. It's
all about me playing football now. "It seems like a good club to me so it
wasn't really hard to decide to come here. I think I can do a lot in the
Championship for Burnley."

Clarets complete Hines swoop
Former Hammers forward pens two-year deal at Turf Moor

Burnley have completed the signing of promising forward Zavon Hines on a
two-year contract from West Ham. Skysports.com revealed on Tuesday that the
Clarets were close to sealing a deal for the 22-year-old. A deal has now
been pushed through and Hines becomes Eddie Howe's second capture of a busy
week. Fresh from landing Danny Ings from Bournemouth, the Burnleyboss has
continued with his summer rebuild. The Clarets will be forced to pay a
compensation fee to West Ham despite landing Hines on a free transfer - due
to his age. The amount involved in the transfer will be decided by a
tribunal.
Confident
Hines rejected the offer of a new contract at Upton Park in order to make
the move to Burnley and he believes he has made the right decision. He told
the club's official website: "I need a fresh start and I am looking forward
to playing for Burnley. It's all about me playing football now. "Burnley
seems like a good club to me so it wasn't hard to decide to come here. "I'm
not a person who talks too much. I prefer to do it on the pitch, but I think
I can do a lot in the Championship for Burnley."
Hines made 31 appearances for West Ham in total, after graduating out of
their famed academy ranks. He was named the Hammers' Young Player of the
Year in 2009/10 and has two England U21 caps to his name.

EXCLUSIVE: West Ham ridicule QPR's £4m Parker bid
Published 23:01 18/08/11 By Darren Lewis
The Mirror
West Ham have branded QPR's £4million bid for Scott Parker a "publicity
stunt" by new owner Tony Fernandes. The Hammers' valuation of last season's
Footballer of the Year has been widely known for some time – they will not
accept less than £8m for the midfielder. "It's ridiculously low," said West
Ham co-owner David Sullivan of the QPR offer. "We see it as a cheap
publicity stunt. "It's a bit like us bidding £12m for Wayne Rooney." Parker
is one of several players targeted by Fernandes, who has pledged his support
for Rangers manager Neil Warnock. Confirming his interest in the 30-year-old
England international, Warnock said: "We've a few days left to bring in
targets [that] we do really need at the club to take us where we want to be.
"I don't think we should talk about players at other clubs at the moment. We
should do it in the right way. "(Parker) is just one of a number of options
and we have different positions and different options."
Parker impressed again for West Ham on Tuesday as they swept to a 4-0 win at
Watford to go third in the Championship. "We hope Scott is our player on
September 1 [the summer transfer window closes on August 31]," added
Sullivan. "But we respect the fact that he has given us four great years of
service. "We also respect the fact he wants to move to a Premier League club
to protect his position in the England team. "But unless we receive our
valuation, he won't be sold."
Also on Warnock's radar are out-of-favour Liverpool right-back Philipp Degen
and midfielder Joe Cole, Manchester City defender Nedum Ohuoha and
midfielder Jimmy Bullard, who is set to be sacked by Hull over a breach of
discipline during their pre-season tour. "We'll try to get our number one
targets in each position and if not we'll try to get the number two
targets," said Warnock. "We're actively looking at a number of players
before the deadline. We're looking at quality players."
Fernandes, a Malaysian airline entrepreneur, completed his takeover of
Rangers on Thursday and has assured Warnock that his future is secure. "To
get Tony on board and listen to his ideas and plans for the club, not just
for the first team but for the whole club, means everyone associated with
QPR should be very excited," said the Rangers manager. "We've got to the
Promised Land, but we want to stay there and build a club for the future and
that doesn't happen overnight. "I think everything about this is great and
positive and we've some days left before the transfer window ends to bring
targets to the club." Fernandes' company, Tune Group, now has a 66% stake
after buying out previous majority shareholders Flavio Briatore and Bernie
Ecclestone. "QPR is a raw diamond and hopefully I can contribute into
turning it into a diamond," said 47-year-old Fernandes, who also owns
Formula 1 motor-racing's Lotus team and low-cost airline AirAsia.
Ironically, considering the Parker situation, Fernandes has previously tried
to buy West Ham.

Nice one! West Ham closing in on new striker
Published 22:29 18/08/11 By Alan Nixon
The Mirror
West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is ready to sign speedy Nice striker Eric
Mouloungui for a bargain £1.5million. Following a recent trip to the south
of France to watch the 27-year-old Gabon international in action, Allardyce
is close to agreement on a fee. Mouloungui has been a reliable performer in
French football, first with Strasbourg and for the past three seasons at
Nice. Big Sam has a track record of raiding French football for bargains,
and could snap up Mouloungui for a relatively small fee or take him on loan
for the rest of the Championship campaign.

West Ham boosted as Tomkins winning fitness fight
By talkSPORT
Thursday, August 18
West Ham defender James Tomkins is winning his battle to be fit for the game
against Leeds on Sunday. Tomkins has been one of the club's star performers
in the opening three matches but he was forced to leave the field during the
4-0 win over Watford with a hamstring problem. The 22-year-old was facing a
race against time to be available for the televised clash at Upton Park this
weekend. But Tomkins has given manager Sam Allardyce a major boost by
revealing he expects to be fully fit for the game. Tomkins said: "I should
be all right for the weekend. [The hamstring] was a bit tight. I couldn't
really run. There was a lot of jumping and a lot of running but I should be
fit."
