New First Team Coach Glynn Snodin has spoken of his delight at the prospect
of teaming up with Alan Curbishley and Mervyn Day again.
The 47-year-old was appointed on to the coaching staff this week having left
his post at Southampton, and admits he can't wait to renew a working
relationship that first began at Charlton Athletic eight years ago.
"I'm very much looking forward to the challenge," says Glynn. "West Ham
United is a massive Club and I am delighted to have been offered this
opportunity.
"To work with Curbs and Merv again will be fantastic, because I have a lot
of respect for them both and enjoyed some great times with them when we
worked together previously.
"Obviously I was on a different level then as I worked with the reserve
team, but Curbs always had a keen interest in that side of things, and he
was very influential on me as I progressed as a coach.
"To team up with him again in the Premiership is a great honour and I hope
we can enjoy a lot of success together at West Ham United."
Having spent six years under Curbs at The Valley, the popular Yorkshireman
moved to Southampton as First Team Coach in March 2006, and admits he can't
wait for the challenge of working with top Premiership players at Upton
Park.
"I just love being out on the field, coaching and being involved with the
players," he says. "I like to keep the mood happy and positive, and have a
laugh with the lads, but at the same time push them to work hard and play to
their full potential.
"These are players at the very top of their profession, so it isn't so much
about coaching them technically, more just making sure they are confident,
motivated and enjoying their football.
"Man-management is very important, and the first requirement of any coach is
to get that mutual respect with the players. That builds the platform for a
good working relationship and hopefully means you can get the best out of
individuals."
And having enjoyed an 18-year playing career as a full-back with the likes
of Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United and Oldham Athletic,
Glynn also enjoyed a few playing appearances at Upton Park over the years,
recalling one particular Hammers opponent with a smile.
"I do remember a few tussles at West Ham down the years, especially with
Mark Ward!" he says. "Mark was a tough little winger and we had some good
battles. I always used to enjoy playing at Upton Park, though, because the
atmosphere was terrific and the fans were always so passionate.
"Hopefully, it will be just the same next season, with the team playing good
football and winning matches. I'm looking forward to being a part of that
and am very excited about the future here."

West Ham United will be heading out to Austria next month as part of the
Club's 2007-08 pre-season preparations.
Alan Curbishley's squad will be flying to Graz on July 15 to spend a week at
a purpose-built training camp popular with many top football clubs around
the world.
Hammers will face two friendly matches during the trip - both of which have
yet to be officially confirmed.
Details of the matches will be announced here on whufc.com as soon as they
are finalised.

Renewal deadline extended due to post strike

As a result of the postal strike that has been confirmed for tomorrow,
Friday 29th June, West Ham United can confirm that the deadline for season
ticket renewals has now been extended to 5.00pm on Saturday 30th June.
However, supporters planning to post their renewal applications today are
still advised to instead consider applying in person, by telephone or
online.
The Stadium Ticket Office will be open from 9.00am to 7.00pm today and
tomorrow, and from 9.00am to 5.00pm on Saturday.

Mascherano wants Tevez reunion - Sky Sports

Javier Mascherano has urged his former team-mate Carlos Tevez to join him at
Liverpool.
Tevez looks certain to leave West Ham before the season starts and has been
strongly linked with a move to Internazionale this summer.
The duo, who are currently playing in the Copa America tournament, signed
for West Ham at the start of last season and it was Tevez' goal against
Manchester United that kept the Hammers in the Premier League for the coming
season.
Liverpool midfielder Mascherano believes the best move for his former
team-mate would be to remain in England and make the move to Anfield.
Mascherano told the Daily Star: "It would be nice to play with Carlos again.
"Right now we are together in the Copa America and it's great.
"We'll see what is going to happen before the start of next season."
Mascherano went on to praise Tevez, and although he feels he would be a
strong addition to the squad, admits the decision lies with boss Rafa
Benitez.
He added: "Carlos is a great player and he could be very useful to Liverpool
in my opinion.
"But the truth is that I would never dare to ask Rafa Benitez or any other
coach to bring a player to a club.
"If he asked me, I would tell him my opinion, but that's the only context in
which I would tell him what I think."

West Ham defender Lucas Neill is urging the side to be on the pace from the
outset next season to avoid a repeat of the last campaign.
The Hammers made a poor start last term but controversially avoided
relegation from the top flight on the final day of the season with a win
over champions Manchester United.
Australian international Neill believes Alan Curbishley's side, now owned by
Icelandic businessman Eggert Magnusson, need to be quick off the mark in
August to prevent themselves from again being embroiled in a battle to
retain their Premier League status.
"It's a long season," Neill said. "I don't think we're going to be the
champions but I think after the lessons we learned last year it's important
we get off to a good start.
"We have a chairman who has a dream, is a very ambitious guy and has very
powerful resources so, like a lot of clubs he'll be looking to spend some
money in the transfer market and hopefully him and the manager can bring in
good quality and we can look up rather than down."
Neill also reserved praise for Curbishley, who took over from Alan Pardew in
December and led the club to safety.
He added: "He's done a good job. He won seven out of the last nine games and
we have to see how cute he can be in the transfer market, bringing in good
quality in the transfer market without having to spend too much money.
"But it's all about the boys. If we start right we make his job easier, if
we don't straight away he's under pressure."
Neill's season will begin prior to the Premier League campaign as he will
feature for Australia in the Asian Cup in south-east Asia next month.

Davies denies Etherington link - Sky Sports

Derby boss Billy Davies has rubbished reports linking the club with a move
for West Ham winger Matthew Etherington.
Etherington has fallen out of favour under boss Alan Curbishley and had been
linked with a move to Pride Park following the Rams' promotion to the top
flight.
But Davies insists the rumours are incorrect and that Etherington is not on
his hit list.
"I can categorically say that, in the last day or so, I've had no contact
with Matthew Etherington or Matthew Etherington's agent," Davies told the
Derby Telegraph.
"I've got no idea where this story has come from but there's been no
discussion between myself and the player. I'm not sure how the papers have
come up with it.
"I've got a few irons in my fire but until things are totally concluded, I'm
not going to say much more.
"Negotiations take time.
"You can't wrap up deals quickly unless you spend silly amounts of money."

Freddie not ready to quit Gunners - TeamTalk
Freddie Ljungberg wants to stay at Arsenal for the rest of his career,
quashing speculation linking him with a move to Portsmouth or West Ham.
The 30-year-old had a disrupted 2006-07 season with his efforts to
re-establish himself as a regular in Arsene Wenger's side hampered by
injury.
With Wenger's emphasis on youth it appeared the Sweden midfielder might be
on the brink of a move away from the North London club - but his agent Claes
Elefalk is adamant Ljungberg wants to see out his playing days with Arsenal.
Elefalk told BBC Sport: "Freddie wants to stay at Arsenal until he stops
playing and there is a good chance that'll happen.
"This is just speculation. Freddie is most certainly not leaving Arsenal."
He continued: "Freddie has a contract with the club that goes until 2009 and
he has no thoughts at all of leaving the team.
"There has not been any contact with any other club, it is nonsense to
suggest otherwise.
"All this is is just normal, traditional transfer rumours that for players
of Freddie's calibre occurs each transfer window and has done so for the
last four years.
"Football is football, but Freddie wants to and will stay at Arsenal and
that is what we are dealing in."
The Gunners are enduring a difficult period after Thierry Henry's
£16.1million move to Barcelona prompted concern for the club's prospects
following the exit of former vice-chairman David Dein and the uncertainty
surrounding the future of Wenger.
However, Elefalk insists Ljungberg has complete faith in the future of the
club.
"Freddie is very confident about what the future holds at Arsenal, despite
Thierry leaving," said Elefalk.
"He is very confident in the team and the club and in Mr Wenger, so it is a

West Ham have launched a desperate bid to keep Carlos Tevez in an
astonishing £9million one-year loan deal.
They have offered the Argentina striker a £6m salary - £115,000 a week - but
would have to pay his 'owner' Kia Joorabchian up to £3m in a loan fee.
Manager Alan Curbishley and chairman Eggert Magnusson are desperate to keep
Tevez, who almost singlehandedly ensured West Ham's survival in the
Premiership last season.
The £6m-a-year offer would make Tevez the highest paid player at Upton Park.
But by paying him wages which would put him in the same bracket as Chelsea
stars Michael Ballack and Andriy Shevchenko, West Ham hope to convince him
to snub offers from Inter and Real Madrid, both of whom are ready to pay
Joorabchian £30m.
The Hammers have had a disappointing time trying to sign players, which has
raised speculation over Curbishley's future.
Keeping Tevez would go a long way to persuading the board that they have the
right manager.
So far Darren Bent has snubbed a £75,000-a-week deal and Mark Viduka and
Joey Barton have also turned them down.
Even signing £6.5m Scott Parker from Newcastle cost them £75,000 a week.
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is considering a £3m bid for Hammers
striker Marlon Harewood after being thwarted in his attempts to sign Fredi

Nicky Shorey will snub Newcastle and West Ham by signing a new contract at
Reading.
The left-back is expected to agree a £25,000-a-week deal after returning
from honeymoon on Monday.
Shorey, who grew up near West Ham's training ground in Chadwell Heath and
has family connections with the club, had previously admitted being linked
with clubs such as West Ham is flattering.
"I've been happy at Reading for a long time now but we'll just have to see
what happens," said Shorey in the Reading Evening Post. "I'm going into the
talks wanting to sort out my future with the club because I've done well at
Reading."
He added: "Interest from those clubs is definitely flattering.

West Ham have been boosted by the news Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips
is set to snub a return to Manchester City this summer.The England

West Ham have been strongly linked with a swoop for the 25-year-old while
City also reportedly want to re-sign the player they sold to the Blues for

Striker Mark Viduka has admitted that he was tempted to join West Ham this
close-season, but in the end opted for Newcastle United.The 31-year-old
Australian international defected to the Magpies from north-east rivals
Middlesbrough this month and is desperate to make a big impact on Tyneside,
but he revealed that he turned down the opportunity to join the Hammers.
His fellow countryman and West Ham full-back Lucas Neill admitted that he
did all he could to lure the former Leeds and Celtic forward down to Upton
Park. However Viduka, who is currently preparing for Australia's Asian Cup
campaign, said: "I have been on my holidays, but what is happening at
Newcastle is exciting.
"We have new owners and it looks very promising. West Ham was tempting but
in the end, I chose Newcastle."

It may not be the most popular piece of news for every West Ham fan, but
Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe is being lined up for a dramatic return to
Upton Park.
The 24-year-old striker left Upton Park in 2004 under a cloud after firstly,
asking for a move the day after the Hammers had suffered relegation and
then, by going to deadly rivals Spurs.
But manager Alan Curbishley, who has so far drawn a blank in his hunt for a
top class forward to partner Dean Ashton, knows just how potent a striker
Defoe is.
The chances of getting Defoe, who has 24 full England caps and three goals,
are reliant on Darren Bent's move from Charlton to Spurs going through.
Bent, who turned down a £17million move to West Ham, is set to join Martin
Jol at White Hart Lane and that would leave the door open for Defoe's
return.
He may take a little while to win the fans over again, but a few goals can
work wonders on the hardest of supporters.
Meanwhile, Curbishley has appointed former Charlton man Glynn Snodin as his
new first team coach.
Snodin worked under the West Ham boss at the Valley, but he will come to
Upton Park from his job as first team coach under George Burley at
Southampton.
The move leaves a question mark over the future of both Keith Peacock and
Kevin Keen at the club, with the former set to leave Upton Park, while the
latter may return to coaching the reserve team in place of Steve Brown.

Dean Ashton is still working hard at West Ham's Chadwell Heath training
ground as he prepares for the new season.
But he took time out to show off the club's new first team strip for
Recorder photographer Steve Bacon.
The 23-year-old is currently working with former West Ham physio John
Green - now a freelance - who has already dealt with the successful
rehabilitation of Newcastle stars Michael Owen and Kieron Dyer last season.

NEW West Ham United Ladies first team manager Tony Marshall took time out
from his busy pre-season preparations to cast his eye over some of the
club's younger players in the Brentwood tournament.
The Hammers entered teams from three different age groups and two of the
West Ham sides came out on top.
The U16's beat the highly-rated north Kent side Long Lane in a thoroughly
entertaining final.

And the the U12's were victors over Enfield Town in their final. The U14's
fell at the semi-final stage to local rivals Barking.
Marshall was very impressed with the club's youngsters who will hopefully be
pushing for places in the clubs senior teams over the next few seasons.
He said: "While I will be busy with the senior players this season I am not
going to forget the club's junior sides.
"They are our future and I will be aiming to get to as many junior games as
I can.
"It wasn't our strongest U16 side at the Brentwood tournament, but all of
the girls worked hard and gave me a lot of food for thought for the coming
season.
"Our new U16 manager Wayne Collier led the side for the first time, and got
off to a superb start.
"I am confident that Wayne will be ideal to help push the girls through to
the next level. Our other two sides also did very well today.
"Jim Maycock has been looking after our U12 side during the summer and his
team certainly were a credit to him. I will be watching the progress of that
group with great interest over the next few years.
"Our U14's also did well, but full credit to the Barking girls.
"They deserved their win and it was a valuable lesson to our junior teams in
that, throughout the Essex Girls League, the Hammers are a big name and
quite often the opposing team will treat a match against West Ham as a cup
final."
Marshall is also very excited about the forthcoming campaign and reports
that his preparations are going very well. He added: "The seniors report
back for serious training next week but the existing squad have proved to me
in the trials that last season's League placing was not a true reflection of
their ability.
"I also have a few new signings in the pipeline and hopefully should be able
to make an announcement about that in the next few weeks.
"Also, with some of our U16s coming of age this season and likely to step up
to the reserves, the club certainly has a promising future"

Pre-season sell-out at the Daggers.
The Hammers begin their pre-season matches in England on July 14th, but
already, the first of them has sold out.
West Ham will be playing before a sell out crowd at Dagenham & Redbridge's
Victoria Road ground on that day, and it is as much a celebration for the
Daggers finally gaining promotion to the Football League as anything else,
but no doubt both teams will be taking it fairly seriously. For the others
matches, tickets are in limited numbers for Hammers' fans, and as O.T.T.
predicted, most of them will go the way of the Dagenham match and also sell
out.
Leyton Orient, who are played on July 24th, have made just over 3,500
tickets available, prices between £15 and £20, with reductions for kids
under 16 and senior citizens. The game against the MK Dons (now managed by
Paul Ince, following the departure of Martin Allen to Leicester City) is the
following day, but ticket details have not yet been finslied; this is one
that may not sell out... For Southend on July 28th, an allocation of 2,100
tickets at £20 (£10 for kids and senior citizens) has been given. Norwich
have given us only 500 tickets for the game on July 31st, though they are
only £12 (£7 seniors and £3 for kids).
Finally, a home game against Italian side, AS Roma, has been arranged for
August 4th, with tickets ranging from £9 to £15 for adults, £4.50 to £7.50
for seniors and young adults {16 - 21}), and £1 for kids.
The players flew out to Austria today (June 28th), to begin pre-season
preparations.
