Jordan Spence would love to see his name on the teamsheet when West Ham
United travel to Reading

Jordan Spence is eyeing a Barclays Premier League start after appearing as a
substitute in the 2-1 home defeat by Everton on 22 December. The talented
defender has been in consistent form for the Development Squad this season
and has been named in Sam Allardyce's matchday squad in each of West Ham
United's last six league matches. After sitting on the bench for the first
five, Spence's patience was rewarded when he was sent on for the final nine
minutes of the defeat by the Toffees, catching the eye with his composed
defending and ability to support the attack down the right flank. Now, the
22-year-old wants to show Big Sam exactly what he can do by starting
Saturday's top-flight fixture at Reading and helping the Hammers to pick up
three valuable points. "It is hard to be positive when you lose a football
match so close to the end of the game and I was disappointed with the result
against Everton - especially with the manner of it [with Everton scoring
their winner after Carlton Cole was sent-off]," Spence told West Ham TV.
"Certainly on the balance of play, we would have wanted something out of the
game. "We are in a results business and we're interested in points, so when
you come away with no points, there is little consolation, really. "Out form
lately has not been reflected in the number of points which we have taken,
so hopefully we can get the result at Reading that we dearly want."

England Under-21 international Spence has made eight first-team appearances
for West Ham since making his debut at home to Manchester City on the final
day of the 2009/10 season - four of them starts. The Woodford-born defender
has also enjoyed two loan spells at npower Championship club Bristol City in
recent seasons. This season, Spence has captained the Development Squad in a
number of their Barclays U21 Premier League fixtures, making eight
appearances and scoring once. The No27 has made four first-team appearances,
including starting each of West Ham's Capital One Cup ties.

Boxing Day loanee round-up

Rob Hall again took centre-stage as West Ham United's loanees enjoyed a busy
Boxing Day

Rob Hall was again the star of the show as West Ham United's band of young
loanees enjoyed a busy Boxing Day. While the Hammers' own Barclays Premier
League fixture at Arsenal was de-railed by a Tube strike, Hall led
Birmingham City to a 2-1 npower Championship victory at Barnsley. The
19-year-old, who won man of the match honours in Birmingham's recent 2-2
home draw with Burnley, provided two assists for centre-back Curtis Davies,
who scored both Blues goals at Oakwell. Hall's fellow West Ham loanee Ravel
Morrison was an unused substitute, while former Hammer Hayden Mullins played
the full 90 minutes.

Elsewhere in the Championship, goalkeeper Stephen Henderson was also an away
winner with Ipswich Town. The Irishman helped the Tractor Boys to pick up
three points courtesy of a 2-1 victory at Charlton Athletic, where only a
Danny Haynes penalty was good enough to beat Henderson. Birmingham's win
keeps them in 19th place on 29 points, two points and one place above
Ipswich.

In npower League One, Dan Potts was booked as Colchester United fell to a
3-1 home defeat by high-flying Brentford. The U's are struggling in 20th
place in the table, just one position and two points above the relegation
zone.

Neither of West Ham's npower League Two representatives made it on to the
pitch on Boxing Day. Blair Turgott was an unused substitute in Bradford
City's 2-1 home win over Accrington Stanley - a game in which Zavon Hines
started and Kyel Reid appeared as a late substitute before setting up the
winner for Alan Connell. Elsewhere, Paul McCallum's AFC Wimbledon saw their
home fixture with Northampton Town postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Bradford are fifth, while Wimbledon are 23rd and in the relegation zone.

Finally, Declan Hunt appeared as a 73rd-minute substitute for Braintree Town
in their 3-0 home Blue Square Bet Premier defeat by Cambridge United.

*West Ham United can confirm that first-year professional centre-back Kenzer
Lee has reached agreement to terminate his contract and registration with
the club with immediate effect. West Ham United would like to thank Kenzer
for his efforts and wish him all the best for his future career.
