Nick Haycock was rightly pleased with seeing his men record a superb derby
win against Spurs
03.09.2011
Tottenham Hotspur U18s 0-4 West Ham United U18s
Blair Turgott scored twice as West Ham United romped to a fine derby victory
away to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. The Hammers have won all three FA
Premier Academy League matches this season but Elliot Lee, who struck a
hat-trick in the first two games, was not among the scorers. Instead Kieran
Sadlier set the Irons on their way in the first half before Turgott took
over with two after the interval. Jack Powell rounded out the scoring in the
closing stages for a second successive away win.
U18s coach Nick Haycock was rightly thrilled with the team's efforts at
Spurs Lodge. "It was a very good professional performance," he said. "We
scored early on through Kieran Sadlier and that set the tone. It was a
strong team display all-round with everyone working hard to win the ball
back whenever Spurs had possession."
Sadlier was not supposed to be starting but was called in to the eleven when
Matthias Fanimo felt a tight muscle in the warm-up. The Irish youth
international was quickly in the thick of the action, showing good footwork
before firing into the bottom corner for his second goal of the season. The
Hammers had a couple more good chances before the break - including Turgott
- but had to be content with just a one-goal advantage at half-time - and
also coped with losing Declan Hunt to a knee knock in the opening stages.
England U17 starlet Turgott made it two on 65 minutes with a 25-yard effort
before rounding the keeper soon afterwards for his second and the Hammers'
third. The rout was complete when Young headed in but Haycock was just as
pleased with the team's defensive resilience as he was their attacking
verve. "We have done a lot of work on team spirit since the pre-season,"
explained Haycock. "We have focused on what we do when we haven't got the
ball as when we have got it. Things are going very well and there have been
no weak links in the team. Everyone is pulling their weight. "Three wins out
of three is great and we are also seeing some good individual performances.
Hopefully the lads will keep on going and maybe one or two will get
opportunities to impress in the development squad and catch the manager's
eye for the future. They have a long way to go but they are doing well and
we have to be pleased with how they are coming along."
Haycock was particularly keen to emphasise the defensive contribution, with
he and Academy Director Tony Carr always keen to spread the praise. "Jake
Larkins has deserved his clean sheet and with young Leo [Chambers], Kenzer
[Lee], Jake [Young] and Danny [Potts] we have not really been opened up. The
back four and the midfield in front have all been working hard to stop teams
hurting us.
"A derby match against Tottenham is always a good one to win. They are a
good Academy so to perform as convincingly as we did is great. Their coach
Alex Inglethorpe was very nice in his comments about us after the match and
said we were much better than them on the day. We have to be pleased with
that."
The young Hammers are in action again next Saturday when Watford are the
visitors to Little Heath.
West Ham United: Larkins, Young, Chambers, K Lee, Potts, Turgott, Powell
(Miles) , Hunt (Hurley 10), Sadlier (Labonne 75), Vose, E Lee

Loanees have day to remember

A trio of the club's homegrown Hammers all had reason to celebrate on
Saturday afternoon
03.09.2011
Cristian Montano, Ahmed Abdulla and Jordan Brown were all successful on
Saturday with their respective loan clubs.
Montano made the most striking contribution with a well-taken individual
goal in Notts County's 3-1 win at home to Bournemouth, scoring barely ten
minutes after coming on as a 75th-minute substitute. The League One side's
manager Martin Allen has just recorded an exclusive interview with West Ham
TV about Montano's progress. Watch out for that soon via whufc.com.
It was also a memorable afternoon for Abdulla (pictured) and Brown, with the
pair making their Football League debuts after being loaned out on deadline
day to rival League Two clubs. Abdulla was sent to Paolo Di Canio's Swindon
Town and promptly helped them win 3-2 at home to Rotherham for their first
victory in four matches. The midfielder came on for the last half-hour of
the televised fixture and in the final 30 minutes he was on the field,
Swindon turned a 2-1 deficit into a vital three points.
Left-back Jordan Brown showed he was over his recent injury woes as he
played the whole game for Dean Holdsworth's Aldershot Town in a 1-0 success
away to Cheltenham Town. The Shots are also on a roll in the Carling Cup and
Brown could figure when they take on Rochdale in the third round on 20
September.
Finally, Olly Lee has also been used to winning with Dagenham & Redbridge
but could not help them falling to a 1-0 defeat away to Hereford Town. The
midfielder played the whole game once again at the heart of the Daggers
midfield and continues to pick up valuable League Two experience.

West Ham United have rejected a £4million offer for Carlton Cole from
Turkish club Galatasaray. Although the English transfer window closed
earlier this week, Turkish clubs are able to bring players in until Monday -
hence the rejected bid. West Ham co-chairman David Gold confirmed via
Twitter that Gala's bid had been snubbed, stating: "The offer for Carlton
Cole is not being considered." Despite having their initial offer knocked
back, the Turkish club are expected to come back in with a fresh offer ahead
of Monday's deadline.

Rivals came in for Gradel
Three Championship rivals wanted Ivorian winger

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson has revealed he could have sold winger
Max Gradel to three different Championship clubs on deadline day. The Ivory
Coast international was in demand ahead of the closure of the transfer
window and Leeds opted to cash in rather than lose him for free next summer.
St Etienne beat Ligue 1 rivals Sochaux to his signature, however, three
English clubs, rumoured to be West Ham, Leicester and Nottingham Forest,
were all eager to strike a deal. Leeds were against selling one of their
prized assets, but Grayson opted to allow him to play in France following a
heart-felt appeal by the 23-year-old.
Stance
"I wish him well in the future but it is a loss and a blow that he has
gone," Grayson told the club's official website. "We did make a stance not
to sell him but when he comes pouring his heart out to me that he needs to
go back to France for family reasons as well, you have to accept that
sometimes. "I could have sold him to three Championship clubs on Wednesday
and the day before but we made a stance that we weren't going to sell him to
any of our rivals. "One or two Premier League clubs inquired but didn't
follow it through. In the end him going abroad back to his family and the
country where he was brought up is an ideal situation."

Parker relishing Prem return
England midfielder happy to be back in top-flight

Scott Parker is relishing being back in the Premier League after making a
deadline day switch from West Ham to Tottenham. The England midfielder spent
four years at Upton Park, earning the captain's armband and establishing
himself as an influential member of the Hammers squad. However, the
30-year-old felt the best option for his career was returning to the top
flight following West Ham's relegation at the end of last season. "I'm
obviously delighted to be back in the Premier League," Parker told Sky
Sports News. "I've had four fantastic years at West Ham. "I met many good
people, many friends and the fans were fantastic to me there but I just felt
it was time to move on. It was time for me to try and stay in the Premier
League. "I felt at this stage in my career I needed to be playing Premier
League football."
Parker has not ruled out returning to East London later in his career,
adding: "I want to thank everyone at West Ham, especially the fans, because
they've been brilliant with me over the last four years. "Hopefully I'll go
back there one day and get a good reception."

West Ham keeper Green held shock transfer talks to Prem clubs
Sep 4 2011 by Alan Nixon, The People
England keeper Robert Green was at the centre of shock transfer talks before
the window shut and was being offered round to Premier League clubs in a
bargain deal.
West Ham shot-stopper Green was being touted to several clubs by an agent –
not his own – who claimed he was available for a loan deal and on half
wages. There were no takers for Green in the end, with his finger injury
costing him an international squad place and possibly a move. Green, 31,
found no club had an immediate need for him, but the strange affair may see
him being moved out in January if a gap comes in the market.
