Youngster Coventry signs scholarship deal
WHUFC.com

West Ham United are delighted to announce that youngster Conor Coventry has
signed a scholarship with the Club. The 16-year-old is a highly-rated
box-to-box midfielder and he has represented the Republic of Ireland at
youth level. Delighted to put pen to paper on his new deal, Coventry said:
"It's a big day for me. It's an honour to sign for the Club. "To describe
myself to fans, I am a centre-midfielder who likes a tackle and likes to
play forward as well. I would say I can do both sides of the game. I think
I've got a good eye for a pass, too. "My style is probably closest to Mark
Noble in the current first team, and I really admire his passion and drive
for the team. "At the moment, it's great to see so many youngsters, like
Reece Oxford, coming through the Club and getting a chance in the first
team. It gives me something to aim for and the Club is looking very good for
the future."

Ahead of the new 2016/17 campaign, Coventry has already set out his
ambitions for the season. "I'd like to play for Ireland again, at the
European Championships for the U17s, and make some U21 appearances for West
Ham too," he continued. "Mostly though the ambition will be to really cement
my position in the U18s. "I was at the U21s' semi-final and first leg of
their final in the U21 Premier League Cup this season and they're a very
good side. I'd love to hopefully be a part of that at times next season if I
can make that step. It will be tough, but that's one of the objectives."

Young stopper impressed with new Store
WHUFC.com

Young Hammers stopper Sam Howes was delighted to be a part of the new
Stadium Store opening on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Thursday, and
voiced his approval of the new goalkeeper jersey. The 18-year-old, along
with fellow youngster Josh Cullen and club captain Mark Noble, was there to
cut the ribbon and officially unveil the new Store, which is three times the
size of its Boleyn Ground equivalent. A host of supporters were there to be
a part of the launch, and with the first 16 to join the queue being
presented with the new Mark Noble away shirts, many took their place in the
at the gates in the early hours of the morning. Howes, having checked out
his new strip, was impressed with Store and everything inside. He said: "The
shop looks unreal and looks the part, which is obviously in keeping with the
Stadium. We've obviously looked at it while having a look around, and to be
fair everyone looks like they're really enjoying it. It's got a great layout
to it. "I love [the new goalkeeper kit]. I'm a big, passionate fan of really
bright colours, so this one's bright enough for me, so I can't really
complain there!

"Everything is taking shape on the Park now. It's an exciting time for the
Club. Moving away from the Boleyn Ground, we've left a legacy and obviously
we're taking that legacy to this ground, where we can become more
successful."

While many of the Hammers squad enjoy their off-season breaks away, Howes
has been preparing for a potential call-up to England U19s' European
Championship squad for this summer's tournament in Germany. The Young Lions
will face France, the Netherlands and Croatia in their tough Group B, but
Howes is confident his side can perform against Europe's elite. "It's a busy
time this summer, but it keeps me going. Obviously we have three big games
out [at the Euros] in the group stages, and now we're leading up to it,
getting the fitness up and getting ready to go again. "The hopes are to win
the tournament. We have already won it as an U17 group, so we have a great
squad of players, a really talented bunch of boys. "We gel together as a
team and there's no reason why we can't go on to win this European
Championships in Germany, and what a place to win it as well."

Boleyn left in sorry state

The Boleyn Ground has been left in a sorry state following the removal of
hundreds of seats and other fixtures and fittings.

West Ham United's famous old home is due to be demolished later this year,
ending the club's 112-year association with Green Street as it prepares to
move to E20 within the coming weeks.

Prior to the bulldozers moving in the old ground has been stripped of
anything of value and sold to various organisations and supporters, many of
whom went head-to-head in the recent club-held auctions which raised
hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Many supporters who won items in the auctions returned to the ground in
order to collect their prizes this week.

And one of them - KUMB member Rob Galloway - took the following pictures to
show how the ground was already deteriorating, just a matter of weeks after
the final first team fixture to be staged there took place.

As you can see from Rob's pictures the terraces are already missing many
seats, some of which were sold whilst others have been purloined by fans
unwilling to meet the club's £50 asking price.

Meanwhile the pitch is already looking in dreadful condition, since Head
Groundsman Dougie Robertson and his team ended their daily routine of
preparation and maintenance.
