Cresswell makes England debut
WHUFC.com

West Ham United's Aaron Cresswell became the Club's 40th senior England
international by making his debut in Wednesday's friendly with Spain at
Wembley.

The left-back capped a sensational opening two-and-a-quarter seasons in
Claret and Blue by being introduced as a 79th-minute substitute for
Tottenham Hotspur's Danny Rose – who he could face at White Hart Lane on
Saturday.

The 26-year-old has been a rock of consistency since joining West Ham from
Championship club Ipswich Town in summer 2014, winning the Hammer of the
Year award in his first season in east London.

Aside from a knee injury caused by a late tackle in July this year that
ruled him out for three months, Cresswell has hardly missed a minute for the
Hammers, making 93 appearances and scoring four spectacular goals for the
Club.

On Wednesday, he completed a remarkable rise from being released by
Liverpool at the age of 15, through being given a second chance by
lower-league Tranmere Rovers, to winning Ipswich and West Ham's Player of
the Year awards, to full England international.

Cresswell became the 40th West Ham player to feature in an England shirt,
105 years after centre forward George Webb scored on his debut in a 3-0 win
over Wales at The Den in March 2011.

Three West Ham players, of course, lifted the FIFA World Cup in 1966 –
hat-trick hero Geoff Hurst, goalscorer Martin Peters and the Hammers'
most-capped player Bobby Moore, who appeared 108 times for the Three Lions.

Cresswell also became the first West Ham player to represent England since
Stewart Downing, who appeared against Scotland in Glasgow in November 2014.

Bilic - I am very proud of Aaron
WHUFC.com

Slaven Bilic says he is proud to see Aaron Cresswell get his maiden call-up
to the England squad and feels he has established himself as one of the best
left-backs in the Premier League.

Cresswell looks set to win his first cap when England face the former World
and three-times European Champions Spain in a mouth-watering friendly at
Wembley on Tuesday night.

The West Ham manager has nothing but praise for the way the talented
full-back has matured as a player following his big move into the Premier
League when he joined the Hammers from Ipswich back in 2014 and feel he has
the quality to compete on the international stage.

Bilic said: "I am very proud of Aaron and he deserves it after the way he
performed last season. It was not just people at West Ham saying it, but a
lot of people outside the Club.

"He had a great season and we hoped that he would go to the Euro Finals
during the summer but he didn't make the squad.

"He has now come back from injury which was the first major injury of his
career and he came back really good. He is playing very well and we are
delighted that he got a call-up to the England squad. We are hoping he will
be involved against Spain and we wish him all the best.

"For me he is one of the best left backs in the Premier League. The way he
trains is fantastic and he is a great professional. He always gives his best
and has improved a lot on his defending.

"With the ball he was always a top player with his crosses, movement and
pace. He has a great left foot and is a top defender.

"He came back against Crystal Palace and you always have concerns how
players are going to do after a long injury, but he looked like he had never
been away. He was unfortunate to get sent-off but he has come back against
Chelsea, Everton and Stoke and looks really good."

Bilic is well aware of the strong competition for places at left-back in the
England squad, but has no doubts that Cresswell will continue to show his
best form in a West Ham shirt over the coming weeks and months.

Bilic added: "He will want to stay in the squad now and it is now up to him.
The competition there is very strong as Danny Rose is in top form and Ryan
Bertrand is playing very well.

"Luke Shaw is back after a long injury and plays for a big club which always
helps. But Cressy has now got a chance playing for West Ham and I am sure he
will keep his place.

"The boost it gives the players when they get a call-up is so great that
every manager including myself wants more of them to join up with their
national teams."

Cresswell has certainly benefitted from from a change in system in recent
games which has seen Bilic employ a new wing-back formation and loves to
show off his attacking qualities.

"He loves getting forward and this is a system which suits him. But he
played a number of games in a back four and this system can only help him
get better. He is a top player and is very versatile. He can play well in
both systems.

The Big Interview - James Collins
WHUFC.com

Ginge in conversation with the boss2016 will always be a year that James
Collins will remember and it was a summer that will go down in the history
books for Welsh football. Wales defied all the odds to reach the semi-finals
of the European Championship Finals and were the surprise package at the
tournament in France.
Collins has returned to West Ham brimming with confidence and despite a
frustrating start to the campaign, the experienced defender is convinced the
team will turn things around and have another successful season....

You were forced to miss the recent game for Wales against Serbia. Can you
tell us what happened and how the injury came about?

JC: "I played against Stoke and got a little calf strain late on in the
game. I didn't think it was too bad and joined up with the Wales squad. "I
had a day off but I had the scan and it showed there was a little problem. I
was very disappointed to miss the Serbia game."

With the way things are going for Wales at the moment following the success
at the Euro Finals during the summer, was it even more disappointing to miss
out on the game?

JC: "With everything that happened during the summer there is a great buzz
around the camp at the moment. I have been playing for Wales for a long
period and this is the best feeling I have ever experienced. "I am getting
to the latter stages of my international career and I want to be involved in
every game. To miss it with such a small injury was very disappointing."

Do you feel under more pressure now when you are playing for Wales
considering the success you had during the summer?

JC: "We had a meeting when I joined up with Wales and teams are showing us
more respect now. "With respect to the teams I have played in before, some
opposition might have faced us thinking they were going to heavily beat us.
"But it is different now and you even have to look at the semi-final we
played against Portugal in the Euros and they defended quite deep and showed
us a lot of respect. It is tougher for us to break teams down."

You must take so much confidence from reaching a semi-final of a major
tournament. Does that help you when you are now playing for West Ham and
Wales and do you feel a slightly bigger player?

JC: "I am not the type of player to get big-headed and get carried away with
what I achieved during the summer. "There is no doubt it was one of the best
moments of my career and it was great to be involved. We worked hard to get
into the tournament and we could never dream that we would achieve what we
did."

You obviously went into the Euros with a lot of confidence having had such a
successful season at West Ham. Do you think the Club finished higher than
what people anticipated?

JC: "I don't think we over-achieved. Maybe we got some better results early
on than we first thought and that breeds confidence. "We got some tremendous
results against Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City. "The signings we
made were fantastic and it helped all the players around them feel better
and we were challenging at the top."

What have you made of the move into London Stadium this season?

JC: "I think it is a great Stadium. For a Club heading in the direction that
we want to go, this is a fitting venue. "It is such a big Stadium and
different to what we are used to but it is a tremendous ground and I know
opposition players who speak very highly about. From a players point of view
it is a tremendous place."

You have played with such great players during your career. How does Dimitri
Payet rate among them?

JC: "Dimi is a tremendous player. What he did for West Ham last season was
fantastic and he was the catalyst for everything we did. "He was setting up
goals, scoring goals and the manager made a real point when he signed Dimi.
"He makes other players around him more confident and then what he did for
France during the summer took him to another level. "I probably realised how
good he was in the first couple of days when he put the ball through my legs
and turned the other defenders before putting the ball past the keeper! "If
I am honest I didn't know too much about him when he first came but when I
saw the things he could do, I knew he was a special player."

Dobson will fight for place at Walsall
WHUFC.com

George Dobson says he is happy to work hard and earn a place in the Walsall
starting eleven
The young Hammers star has been on loan with the Saddlers this season
He has found game time hard to come by so far but is prepared to battle for
a place

Hammers loanee George Dobson says he is prepared to fight for his place on
loan at Sky Bet League One club Walsall.

The 18-year-old has made four appearances for the Saddlers since joining on
loan in the summer and has had to settle for a considerable number of
minutes watching from the substitutes bench.

However, speaking at the recent loan players return day at Chadwell Heath,
Dobson said he is keen to impress manager Jon Whitney and earn a place in
his starting eleven.

"It's been great. Obviously, I would have like to have played more games
because I've been in and out the team but that's part and parcel of League
One football," said Dobson.

"You've got to understand that sometimes. It's hard sitting on the bench but
I've tried to not let my head go down and keep playing at it in training and
try and impress the manager.

"Hopefully, I can get in the team and show what I can do and come back here
and get as close to the first team as I can."

Dobson joined the Hammers in July 2015 from Premier League and London rivals
Arsenal and quickly became an integral part of Terry Westley's U23 squad.

He was a key feature in the side which battled through the rounds and
eventually to the Premier League Cup final.

He started the first leg of the final against Hull City, when the Hammers
won the trophy after a dramatic penalty shootout

"I'd like to get 20 League One games, hopefully around 25 altogether
including cups. That's what I've set out to get because obviously it's my
first loan," Dobson continued.

"I speak to the manager all the time and he tells me when I'm doing well and
what I can improve on.

"They've looked after me off the pitch with accommodation and just learning
about living life on your own.

"I'm just looking forward to continuing my team there and getting a place
back in the team."

West Ham drawn against Stoke in FA Youth Cup

West Ham drawn against Stoke in FAYC 3rd Round

West Ham United have been drawn against Stoke City in the 3rd round of this
season's FA Youth Cup.

The Hammers will travel to Staffordshire to face the Potters with the exact
date, time and venue for the match to be confirmed - it will, however, be
played on or before Saturday 17 December.

The Hammers have not won the competition since 1999, when they famously
thrashed Coventry City 9-0 over two legs.

A team featuring the likes of Joe Cole and Michael Carrick, won the first
leg 3-0 and returned to the Boleyn Ground for the second leg to play in
front of over 21,000 fans.

They won the second leg 6-0 to complete the heaviest aggregate FAYC final
victory in history.

Overall, West Ham has won the tournament three times which puts us fourth in
the list of overall winners. Manchester United lead the way with ten Cup
wins.

The team to beat will be Chelsea - they are the current holders and have won
the tournament in each of the last three seasons.

But after West Ham United's strong start to the U18 Premier League South
campaign, there's no reason why the young Hammers cannot progress deep into
the competition.

'Fans not bans' protest set for Arsenal game
KUMB.com
Filed: Tuesday, 15th November 2016
By: Staff Writer

A group of West Ham supporters incensed by the club's decision to ban up to
200 supporters following disturbances in the EFA Cup game against Chelsea
are urging fellow fans to join in with a protest next week. On Saturday, 3
December West Ham will play host to London rivals Arsenal in the weekend's
big London derby. And a group of fans are hoping to mark the occasion by
protesting against what they see as unfair treatment by the club of its
fans. "We need to stand up to the club regarding the ongoing resentment and
treatment of its fans," read a statement by spokesperson John Hallett posted
on West Ham United's own Facebook page. "First we had the 200 fans that have
received bans without being shown any evidence or explanation of why their
STs have been revoked, after this we had fans in 114 moved against their
wishes and now we have the yellow cap snatch squad, whose members were sent
into section 127 to harass and provoke loyal fans. "This should be the last
straw for what has (so far) been an ill-thought-out stadium transition."

And the group have called for fans to demonstrate their dissatisfaction by
leaving the stadium empty when the match - which is being broadcast live on
TV - kicks off. "We need a show of solidarity to fellow fans without
affecting the team," added Hallett. "Therefore at the Arsenal match please
refrain from taking to your seat until just after the match has started,
show the owners and Brady what a big stadium looks like with no fans and no
noise (not even bubbles). "On your way to the seat please let Brady & Co
know how we feel, but after that please back the team all through the game,
whether seated or standing be as noisy as you can. "This will be the easiest
and cheapest protest to organise with the large numbers involved and will
look very effective on TV with a completely empty home section at kick off
and will hopefully get the message across for the club and stadium operators
to work with us not against."

Exclusive: Magnusson responds to Sullivan accusations
KUMB.com
Filed: Tuesday, 15th November 2016
By: Staff Writer

Eggert Magnusson, the former chairman of West Ham United has replied to
criticism of his tenure by the current owners of the club.

Yesterday, Magnusson was accused by West Ham United's current co-owner David
Sullivan of overseeing a "hugely flawed" operation when he was West Ham's
chairman between 2006 and 2007.

The current owner, who jointly purchased the club with David Gold from
Icelandic administratrors Straumur in 2010 also branded Magnusson as
"irresponsible" for questioning the Board's decision to move to the Olympic
Stadium, which the 69-year-old had previously described as "unfit for
football".

West Ham hit out at Magnusson after he was quoted in The Sun newspaper at
the weekend. However the Icelandic businessman, speaking exclusively to
KUMB.com insisted that his comments had been taken out of context - whilst
adding that he is "very happy" to see the club in a new home.

"To put things in perspective, many of the comments I'm supposed to have
given the so-called 'freelance journalist' - who gave me the impression he
was working for the BBC and never in one word mentioned he was going to
write a piece in The Sun - are incorrect," he told KUMB.com.

"It is correct that I told him briefly about what had happened in 2007
regarding the possibilities of WHUFC being able to have a say in the design
and building of the stadium with view to it being a football stadium after
the 2012 Olympics.

"I am indeed very happy for my beloved old club to now have the use of this
great stadium, but I am sure even Mr. David Sullivan would agree with me
that it would have been better if it had been designed from the beginning to
serve as a football stadium after the Olympics!"

Magnusson, who is now based in Valencia, Spain, also revealed that despite
ending his tenure at the club after just a year at the helm, he retained a
great deal of affection for West Ham and its supporters.

"Once again I would like to declare my love for this great club and I am
very honoured to have briefly been a part of its history," he added. "It
therefore saddens me to hear Mr. David Sullivan's comments about my
character.

"Everybody who really knows me, knows that I am a genuine football man
through and through and that when I was at WHUFC I was trying to serve this
great club in the best possible way, 24/7, every day."

Kevin Nolan back training with West Ham

Kevin Nolan is back training with West Ham less than 15 months after being
released by the club. The former Hammers captain has not played since being
sacked by Leyton Orient in April following a four-month stint as their
player-manager. Slaven Bilic has given Nolan permission to use the club's
facilities at their Rush Green training ground, but Sky sources understand
West Ham are not planning to offer the 34-year-old a contract. West Ham have
won just three of their opening 11 Premier League matches and sit in 17th
place, just a point clear of the relegation zone. Nolan joined West Ham from
Newcastle for £4m in June 2011 and played a leading role in their promotion
to the Premier League via the Sky Bet Championship play-offs the following
May. The former Bolton midfielder scored 31 times in 157 appearances during
his four years at the Boleyn Ground but was allowed to leave by mutual
consent in August 2015. Meanwhile, Carlton Cole is continuing to train with
West Ham following his release from American third-tier side Sacramento
Republic.

West Ham are a good option for Daniel Sturridge if he leaves Liverpool,
insists Stan Collymore
SAM LONG
Evening Standard

West Ham represent a good option for Daniel Sturridge if the England
international leaves Liverpool at the end of the season, according to Stan
Collymore. Sturridge was previously first choice striker at Anfield but has
struggled for game time under Jurgen Klopp this season. The German coach has
put his faith in Roberto Firmino as a false nine rather than Sturridge,
leading to reports the 27-year-old could call time on his spell in
Merseyside. Sturridge has already played for Manchester City and Chelsea,
restricting his options in regards to another top level Premier League club,
but Collymore is adamant the London Stadium is one of several destination
that could be a good fit. "Sturridge, unfortunately, comes into the unlucky
category because he has been at three big clubs without really finding a
home," he told the Mirror. "If he does have to move on in the summer then I
hope he will join a club who won't have the luxury of not picking him as
their first choice striker - like a Southampton, a West Ham or even an
Everton. "We cannot afford to take liberties with such a talented player on
the basis of what he can't do rather than what he can do, which is score
goals by the shedload given half a chance," Collymore added. West Ham spent
the majority of last summer searching for a marquee striker before
eventually signing Andre Ayew and Simone Zaza, who has struggled for form in
the early stages of his career in east London. Slaven Bilic also has the
services of Andy Carroll, Diafra Sakho, Jonathan Calleri and Ashley Fletcher
to call upon. Sturridge, meanwhile, is vying for another opportunity to lead
England's line in tonight's international friendly against Spain.

Liverpool news: Daniel Sturridge 'ready to quit' Anfield in January as West
Ham and Stoke register interest
The Liverpool forward has grown increasingly frustrated with his limited
opportunities under manager Jurgen Klopp
The Independent
Samuel Lovett @samueljlovett 16 minutes ago0 comments

Daniel Sturridge is reportedly ready to quit Liverpool, with a number of
Premier League sides prepared to make a move for the 27-year-old. The
forward has fallen out of favour at Anfield under manager Jurgen Klopp, who
has instead placed his faith in the likes of Roberto Firmino and Divock
Origi. With Sturridge growing increasingly frustrated at Liverpool, the
England international is now allegedly eyeing a January transfer, ccording
to the Daily Mirror.
Both West Ham and Stoke have been linked with the £120,000-a-week marksman,
who has scored for times for Liverpool this season (although all have been
in the EFL Cup). With the Hammers currently suffering from a dearth of
goals, the club is desperate is to bring in a forward with a proven
goal-scoring record. As for Stoke, the Midlands side have already drafted in
Wilfried Bony on a season long loan from Manchester City but remain
interested in Sturridge nonetheless. Some have argued that Klopp's decision
to overlook Sturridge is justified, however. Liverpool great Graeme Souness
has suggested that the striker is at risk of wasting his potential at
Anfield, partly due to his poor work ethic. Sturridge has that quality, but
what he does not have, and which all successful teams want, is a work
ethic," he recently wrote in the Sunday Times. "That explains why two big
clubs, Manchester City and Chelsea, have let him go and why he is now not in
the starting team at a third big club, Liverpool. There have been some good
judges who have doubts about him." "Sturridge is 27 now and I would suggest
he's not going to fulfil his potential. He either cannot maintain
physically, because of his well-documented injuries, or does not want to
mentally put in the shift as a team player that Jurgen Klopp demands."

Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge ready to spark January transfer tug-of-war with
Anfield exit
Clubs have been told the England striker accepts he is not wanted after
slipping down the pecking order, and there's interest from West Ham, Stoke
and others
BYDARREN LEWIS
22:30, 14 NOV 2016UPDATED07:38, 15 NOV 2016
The Mirror

Daniel Sturridge is ready to quit Liverpool – a move which will kick off a
major battle for his signature. England striker Sturridge is frustrated
after slipping down the pecking order at Anfield, and could leave Merseyside
in the looming January transfer window.
A number of clubs have been made aware that Sturridge has accepted he is not
wanted by the Reds' boss Jurgen Klopp. The 27-year-old - who scored in the
Three Lions' Wembley win over Scotland last Friday - has claimed he is happy
to fight for his place. But Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi are ahead of
him, and both men are seen by Klopp as better team players. West Ham and
Stoke are among the clubs interested in the £120,000-a-week marksman, who
has netted four times for his club this season although they have all been
in the EFL Cup. The Hammers in particular are desperate for a high-class
marksman as they are struggling for goals. Stoke have already taken striker
Wilfried Bony on a season's loan from Manchester City, but remain huge fans
of Sturridge's abilities. On Monday, interim England boss Gareth Southgate
backed the player's insistence that he IS a team player. Speaking at his
press conference before Tuesday's Wembley friendly against Spain, Southgate
said: "He is a goal-scorer, a talented player and his mentality to working
with us has been excellent. "Every striker has a slightly different way of
playing and he has some brilliant footwork. "He likes to drop into different
areas of the field. He works for the team, he wants to be part of the team.
"All goal-scorers are slightly individual but I don't see any more of that
[selfishness] in Daniel than any other forward."

MESUT OZIL VS DIMITRI PAYET - A STATISTICAL COMPARISON
EPL INDEX > ARSENAL > MESUT OZIL VS DIMITRI PAYET - A STATISTICAL COMPARISON

Dimitri Payet and Mesut Ozil are both excellent midfielders, who are key
players for West Ham and Arsenal respectively. However, there has been a lot
of debate, mainly on social media, about who is better out of the two. The
latter has played for two of the biggest clubs in the world and has a World
Cup to his name. Whereas Dimitri Payet plays for a mid-table Premier League
side and has never lifted a major trophy. Based on this, it would be easy to
believe that Ozil is the better player, but Payet has been incredible for
club and country in recent years and deserves to be talked about alongside
the better players in his position. I'm going to look at how the two players
have started the season and see how they compare to each other.

In terms of goals, Ozil has the beating of Payet as he has scored three to
the Frenchman's one. The Arsenal man has looked a bigger goal threat this
season and could be set to score more than ten in the league. In terms of
shots, Ozil is averaging 1.8 shots per game at an accuracy of 46%. Compare
this with Payet, who is averaging 3.22 shots per game at an accuracy of 38%.
The German has been a lot better at converting chances that come his way and
there is a feeling that Payet is relied on to make something happen for his
side, causing him to take shots on at every opportunity. He needs to be more
intelligent in the final third when it comes to shot selection as he has
been wasteful at the start of this season.

Last season, Mesut Ozil has the best creative season recorded by Opta since
stats began. However, he has dropped off this season and is significantly
lower than Payet in the creativity ranks. The Frenchman is averaging an
impressive 4.44 chances created and 4 key passes per game. He has recorded
four assists this season and if he continues to create as his current rate,
that total will only increase. Meanwhile, Ozil has contributed just one
assist this season. He is currently averaging 2.7 chances created and 2.6
key passes per game. This is an area that he needs to improve as he is the
main creative outlet in the Arsenal side.

Finally, the passing stats of the two make interesting reading and show the
different roles that the two play in their respective teams. Ozil is
excellent in possession and is rarely dispossessed. He averages 59 passes
per game with an accuracy of 87%. The German is the link between the
midfield and attack for Arsenal, making him the key man in transition. The
fact that he rarely gives the ball away puts a lot of pressure on the
opposition defence, as they know he has the passing range and vision to
really hurt them. Meanwhile, Payet completes an average of 43.89 passes per
game at an accuracy of 79%. He is less involved than Ozil, but it is clear
from his creative stats that he tries to cut open defences more frequently
and this may be why his pass accuracy is lower.

To conclude, they are both very good players, but they differ somewhat.
There is no player that compares to Ozil in the current game. He executes
things on the football pitch that few other players would even see, let
alone be able to pull off. This season's stats aren't the best indication of
what he brings to a team and there is definitely a lot more to come from
him. Whereas Payet is a great player, capable of producing moments of magic,
but he wouldn't be as effective in a top side. He is doing so well at West
Ham as the side is set up to get the best from him. The Frenchman has also
taken his time to get to the top of the game and the opportunity to achieve
meaningful success has probably alluded him. In short, I think Mesut Ozil is
a better player and in truth, it shouldn't even be a debate.

£28m fee, £120k-a-week wages: West Ham reportedly plotting January deal for
Daniel Sturridge
HITC
Olly Dawes

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is reportedly wanted by Stoke City and
West Ham United. According to The Mirror, Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge
has decided that he needs to leave the club in order to play first-team
football – and both Stoke City and West Ham United are keen, despite a £28m
price tag and £120,000-a-week wages. Sturridge, 27, may have been the runner
up for the Premier League's Golden Boot during the 2013-14 season, but his
career has somewhat stagnated since that 21-goal campaign. The England
international has played just 34 games since the end of the 2013/14 season,
scoring 12 goals – but he's yet to find the net in the Premier League this
season. Sturridge has been left out of the Liverpool starting line-up for
much of the season, as Roberto Firmino has been Jurgen Klopp's first-choice
striker, with Sturridge starting just four Premier League games this season.
Sturridge has though hit four goals in just two EFL Cup games, and even
scored for England against Scotland on Friday evening as he led the line for
Gareth Southgate's side – but The Mirror claim that Sturridge has decided
that his future lies away from Liverpool, sparking interest in his
signature. It's claimed that Stoke City are keen despite signing Wilfried
Bony on loan from Manchester City on deadline day in August, whilst West Ham
United are also interested given their search for a striker. Jonathan
Calleri and Simone Zaza have both failed to make an impact since joining the
club on loan over the summer, and Sturridge – a proven Premier League
goalscorer – would fit the bill perfectly. However, it's added that
Liverpool would demand £28m for Sturridge, and when you factor in his
alleged wages of £120,000-a-week, it could prove to be a costly deal for the
Hammers to pull off., especially with no European football to fall back on.
