Hammers make an offer for Parker - BBC

West Ham are understood to have made an offer for Newcastle captain and
England international Scott Parker. The midfielder, 26, played under Hammers
boss Alan Curbishley when they were both at Charlton and is believed to be
keen on a move to the capital. West Ham are in the market for a central
midfielder with skipper Nigel Reo-Coker set to move on in the summer.
But Curbishley's initial bid is thought to be considerably less than the
£8.5m Newcastle and Sam Allardyce want. Parker spent seven years with
Curbishley at The Valley and made his England debut against Denmark in 2003
before completing a £10m move to Chelsea. But with first-team opportunities
limited at Stamford Bridge, he moved to St James' Park in a £6.5m deal in
2005 and was made skipper last summer. However, reports suggest Parker has
struggled to settle in the north-east and would relish a return south. New
Magpies manager Allardyce is believed to be eyeing out-of-favour Manchester
City midfielder Joey Barton as a potential replacement.

West Ham are thought to be closing in on the signing of Scott Parker after
seeing off late interest from Tottenham. The Hammers tabled a bid for
Newcastle skipper Parker on Wednesday night and it is believed The Magpies

Parker's availability, but West Ham have firmed up their interest to fend
off Tottenham's advances. Parker is now reportedly set to meet West Ham
officials on Thursday to discuss a possible switch to Upton Park. Hammers

Reo-Coker set to move on and he has made Parker his top target.

PARKER NOW LOOKS WEST HAM-BOUND - Talk Of The Tyne
by Dylan Younger
Date: 31/5/2007

SCOTT PARKER is on the brink of leaving Newcastle to join West Ham. The
Hammers - who put a bid in for the midfielder yesterday - are now believed
to have agreed a fee in the region of £7 million for Parker. Tottenham
declared a late interest and tried to scupper the bid, but West Ham chief
executive Scott Duxbury put his club back in the driving seat with some
late-night talks with the player's agent last night. Parker is now set to
meet with club officials to discuss personal terms and arrange a medical.
The Chelsea old boy was United's player of the year in the 2005/06 season
and still has a lot of fans in the St James' Park crowd. However, his
critics insists he does not offer the side enough in an attacking sense, and
Parker is believed to be keen on a return to London, where his wider family
is based. The lure of working with his former Charlton boss Alan Curbishley
at West Ham will also be a big factor. Magpies boss Sam Allardyce is now
being strongly linked with a move for Manchester City bad boy Joey Barton as
a replacement for the tough-tackling Parker. England midfielder Barton is
available at a discounted £5.5 million after a series of off-the-field
problems, but Everton and Middlesbrough are also thought to be keen.

Hammers fight off Spurs for Parker - Daily Mail

West Ham appear to be on the verge of clinching the £7million signing of
Newcastle and England midfielder Scott Parker after fighting off late

Parker, who is celebrating the birth of his third child this week, is keen
on a return to London where his family is based and a move to Upton Park
would see him link up again with Curbishley, his old boss at Charlton.
Parker made his England debut in 2003 while playing under Curbishley at
Charlton before completing a £10million move to Chelsea in January 2004. At
the end of that season Parker was named the Professional Footballers
Association's Young Player of the Year but first-team opportunities grew
increasingly limited at Stamford Bridge. He moved to Newcastle in the summer
of 2005 for £6.5million and was appointed captain at the start of last
season.
Newcastle's new manager Sam Allardyce is reported to be eyeing out-of-favour

No need for United to feel shame, West Ham were in the wrong - The Star -
Sheffield

I HAVE noticed that the Premier League and to some extent a minority of West
Ham fans are trying to slander our name and shame us, making out that we are
bad losers for 'not going down with dignity'. I am aghast to see that some
Blades are starting to buy into this blatant propaganda. Let us not lose
sight of the fact that it is not Sheffield United who should feel shame.
West Ham are in the wrong on this issue. They knowingly broke rule U18
enabling them to gain an unfair advantage on the field of play obtaining two
world class footballers from Argentina, who under normal circumstances, they
would be unable to afford or acquire. They also broke rule B13. They hid
this from the Premier League. They lied about it and misled the Premier
League to avoid a penalty and to gain an unfair advantage over other teams.
They did not bring it to the attention of the Premier league, as some would
like us to believe. They were discovered and pleaded guilty because they had
to, they had been caught. The independent panel was also at fault. It took
into consideration irrelevant factors in the decision making process – the
time of the year, and, most worryingly, the feelings of West Ham fans. If
the panel had a 'duty of care' to West Ham fans, then it also must take into
consideration the feeling of other fans, Fulham, Wigan and Sheffield United
et al, which it did not. The commission has left itself wide open to the
accusation and possible legal action of unfair discrimination against the
fans of other teams. The Premier League then made matters worse by failing
to establish whether the contract between West Ham and MSI was terminated by
both parties. Recent interviews with Kia Joorabchian indicate not. The panel
ordered the League to terminate the registration of Tevez. Either this did
not happen, or they allowed him to re register outside the transfer window,
which I believe is against the rules. Kevin McCabe should be commended for
standing up to the League, seeking truth and justice, not castigated for
being a bad loser. I also take my hat off to Wigan and Fulham, who have
shown that honour does still exist in football. We have no reason to feel
ashamed .

Curbs eyes midfielder reunion - Clubcall
20070531 09:04

West Ham have reportedly made a bid for Newcastle midfielder Scott Parker,
while Bobby Zamora and Anton Ferdinand are staying put. Hammers boss Alan
Curbishley is on the look out for a new midfielder this summer, as current
skipper Nigel Reo-Coker's future appears to be away from Upton Park with
Arsenal favourites to snap up the England Under-21 international. Parker,
who Curbishley managed while in charge at Charlton, is thought to be the
subject of a bid from the club.
The only potential stumbling block is that the Magpies have valued the
26-year-old at around £8.5million and the Hammers are not thought to be
offering anywhere near that amount. However with Parker, who cost Chelsea
£10million in January 2004 before moving to St James' Park in summer 2005,
looking for a move back to London, West Ham are hopeful of securing a deal.

Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce is said to be looking at taking Manchester
City's £5.5million midfielder Joey Barton to Tyneside as a replacement.
Meanwhile, a report in the Times claims West Ham have told central defender
Ferdinand and striker Zamora, that they will not be allowed to leave this
close-season. Ferdinand in particular was expected to be on his way after a
falling out with the manager last term, but his end-of-season form alongside
James Collins looked to have saved him.

Defender lined up for contract talks - Clubcall
20070531 08:59

Reading are reportedly planning to offer full-back Nicky Shorey a much
improved contract to ward off interest from clubs like West Ham. The
25-year-old, who joined the Royals in a bargain £25,000 deal six years ago,
still has two years left to run on the three-year deal that he signed at the
start of last season. However, following an excellent debut campaign in the
top flight with the Royals, the vultures are already circling the Madejski
Stadium. West Ham boss Alan Curbishley has been linked with Shorey, while
Tottenham boss Martin Jol is also thought to be pondering a raid for the
former Brentford man, whose form this past season has seen him thrust into
England coach Steve McClaren's squad for Friday's Wembley friendly against
Brazil and next Wednesday's Euro 2008 showdown with Estonia. Royals boss
Steve Coppell will be loathe to lose such a key member of his squad though,
which is why the club are willing to reward him for his fine form with a new
deal. Shorey has confirmed he will enter talks with the Royals after he has
got his international duty and wedding over with as he prepares to marry his
fiancee, Emily, on Saturday. He said: "I'm just thinking about England.
After the honeymoon I'll sit down with Reading and see where we go from
there."

Champions league or bust for deluded Reo-Coker - all3points.com
31st May 2007
By Dan Halton

Having handed in a transfer request West Ham's captain has played his last
game for the club but will not be sorely missed by Dan Halton.

"Every action has a reaction, and you have to be careful with your actions
and think about what you are doing and how it will affect other people." -
Reo-Coker speaking to the Sunday Times, 7 May 2006

There's a fine line between ambition and arrogance. Over the course of the
past year Nigel Reo-Coker has displayed far too much of the latter. An
energetic and vital cog in the West Ham machinery that impressed in their
first year back in the Premiership, he should have been buckling down for
more of the same come the start of last season but instead threw his toys
out of the pram when the club allegedly rebuffed enquiries from Arsenal and
Manchester United without informing him.

His head suitably turned, performances on the pitch deteriorated to the
extent that fans and ex-players justifiably turned against him. Only the
bigger games seemed to interest him, ironically scoring his only goal of a
wretched season against Manchester United before arrogantly cupping his ear
to the Bobby Moore Stand in angry non-celebration. Yet the captain's armband
stayed with him – a decision Alan Pardew was to regret when he was sacked
after a dreadful start to the season. If your captain has lost interest in
driving the club forward then the rest of ship will follow.

"I can confirm that Nigel has handed in a transfer request. I am surprised
as captain he is being allowed to leave." - Agent Tony Finnigan, 26
May 2007

Alan Curbishley took over from Pardew but undeterred Reo-Coker still wanted
out and submitted a transfer request in January, making his intentions
crystal clear. When it was turned down and the transfer window had shut
quotes attributed to the midfielder suddenly appeared in the media stating
his desire to help West Ham stay in the Premiership. A deal had obviously
been struck. In return for keeping the captaincy and doing what he is paid
to do the club would allow him to leave in the summer. Not one West Ham fan
can have blinked at the announcement this week from the Reo-Coker camp that
he had played his last game for the club.

"I am a very loyal person but to play at my best I need to be happy. I made
a promise to West Ham fans that I would help keep this club in the Premier
League and I have done that." -
Reo-Coker after the 1-0 win at Old Trafford, 13 May 2007

Curbishley's despair at the Baby Bentley culture he discovered at West Ham
pointed the finger squarely at the likes of Reo-Coker. One look at his
cringeworthy MySpace website tells you all you need to know about the man.
One-season wonder, big-time charlie, the epitome of the selfish and deluded
Premiership generation. There's a lot of names you can call some players but
true professionals perform season after season, feel privileged to be given
the club captaincy and earn respect over a number of years. West Ham stayed
in the Premier League but you will find a queue of players who contributed
to the cause ahead of our beloved captain. I find it hard to believe the
attitude let alone the ordinary form of Reo-Coker will have impressed men
such as Arsene Wenger or Alex Ferguson who are notoriously meticulous in
their attention to detail when it comes to potential players' personalities
and backgrounds.

"At the end of the day he never felt wanted but I am sure he will have a
bright future elsewhere." - Finnigan again

Not content with being plucked from the obscurity of Milton Keynes in 2004
to play in front of 35,000 fans at Upton Park as opposed to one man and his
dog at the National Hockey Stadium, Reo-Coker holds the honour of being the
youngest captain West Ham has had since Bobby Moore. An honour he has
tarnished over the past season with his childish actions. Promotion to the
Premiership in 2005 saw Reo-Coker flourish and having missed out on a place
in the World Cup party for Germany last summer his stock could not have been
higher. A time to repay the faith Pardew and the fans had in him from the
start perhaps? Not for Nigel.

"Money does talk now. I'm prepared for that. If I have to move and my career
lies elsewhere eventually, so be it." - Sunday Times interview, 7 May 2006

West Ham was simply a stepping stone for him. He does not have the quality
nor personality to demand the Champions League football he so craves. He can
tackle, track back and deliver a safe pass sideways but ostensibly he is an
ordinary footballer who is a long way off the finished article. A midfielder
who doesn't score enough goals and picks up too many yellow cards will have
to do better to attract the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United. The
latest is that he is holding out for one of these two to step in amidst
interest from more realistic suitors in Aston Villa, Newcastle and
Tottenham. No doubt his agent and self-confessed guardian Tony Finnigan has
inflated the Reo-Coker ego to such an extent that anything less than a
top-four team would be seen as disrespect. I mean this man is the England
Under 21 captain…

"A general is the safeguard of the nation. When this support is in place,
the nation will certainly be strong. When this support is not in place, the
nation will certainly not be strong." - Sun Tzu from the Art of War

So it's goodbye to the numerous misplaced passes, poor final balls,
multitude of yellow cards, turning in performances on a whim, silly dance
celebrations, dismissive waves to the crowd, cupped-ear arrogance of the
goal against Man U and having a captain whose loyalty is only to himself.
Nigel often quotes the Art of War as being an inspiration to him as a
leader. Time for him to blow the dust off that book for his next career
move.

Curbs says don't believe the hype - Harlow Citizen
By Tess McDermott

WEST Ham boss Alan Curbishley has told fans to ignore the heightening
transfer speculation in the press. The club has been linked to a series of
high-priced targets including Eidur Gudjohnsen, Craig Bellamy, Darren Bent,
Tal Ben-Haim and Ecuadorian Carlos Tenorio, with up to a dozen players
speculated to be leaving the Hammers in the summer in what has been quoted
as a £40m squad overhaul. But Curbishley said: "People are assuming and just
writing what they want. Of course there will be some changes, there are at
every club in the summer. But you have to be sensible and a lot of what is
written is just speculation." The manager was on holiday last week and
returned to business on Tuesday with a meeting with Eggert Magnusson. He
said: "I am sitting down with the chairman almost everyday and we will do
the right thing for this club. As I have said in the past, you will know
who's coming in when they're here sitting beside me. That's how I do
business."
Magnusson told the West Ham website: "There is bound to be a lot of
speculation over the summer about our playing squad. It is normal in a
transfer window - who is going, who we want to bring in. "We are ambitious
for this club and what we can achieve next season. We want to strengthen the
squad and to build on the positives of the 2006/07 season. I'm proud of what
the club has achieved and now we can move forward. "We will work hard over
the summer to prepare for next season and that includes keeping our best
players who want to play for us." He cited the new contract for Yossi
Benayoun as a sign of the club's commitment to its players, saying: "We are
very ambitious and Yossi is a big part of our plans. "We are looking forward
to bringing in exciting new signings but we must also make sure we keep hold
of the hugely talented players we already have."

defender was on holiday with his family when Scotland coach Alex McLeish
handed him a late call-up for their friendly against Austria tonight and a
vital Euro 2008 qualifier against the Faroe Islands next week - after he had
originally been left out of the squad. "I was in the Algarve for half-term
when I got the call and flew from Faro to Stansted to make it here," reveals
Christian. "By now, everyone will know what it means to me to play for my
country. All my stuff was in a locker at West Ham so I had to ask our
liaison officer, Richard Simpson, to get some boots for me which he bought
in a sports shop in town and I'll have to cope. "I was gutted to say the
least when I was left out. I now have a game to look forward to and that's
all I wanted. I've played in the reserves every week and played in the
testimonial against Northampton. "I was chilling out on a beach but my mind
is right and I'm ready to play. I was annoyed to be left out but I made a
vow to myself that I would get back in and I have."

Transfer news: a busy week ahead? - KUMB
Filed: Wednesday, 30th May 2007
By: Matthew O'Greel

West Ham United could be set to make their first major signings of the
summer within the next few days. Alan Curbishley - supported by the biggest
transfer war chest ever handed to a United manager - is ready to begin
spending the millions given him by Chairman Eggert Magnusson, who has been
in negotiations with a number of targets during the past fortnight. The main
target appears to be Newcastle captain Scott Parker, who is ready to return
to London after just a year in the North East where he has failed to settle.
Parker - who previously worked under Curbishley at Charlton - is expected to
replace Nigel Reo-Coker, who could be heading to St James Park in a swap
deal although a number of other Premiership clubs - including Tottenham and
Everton - are keeping tabs on the wantaway United midfielder.
Another target - Manchester City's Joey Barton - is thought to want a move
to London, giving the Hammers the lead over other potential suitors such as
Newcastle. The Hammers are thought to be looking at both Parker and Barton,
rather than one or the other. Both are likely to cost around £8m.
Meanwhile Charlton's Darren Bent is currently mulling over offers from both
West Ham United and Tottenham. Although Spurs can offer European football,
Bent is thought to favour a move to Upton Park on the basis that he will
play more first team football.
The Hammers are said to have offered a cash plus player deal, with either
Marlon Harewood or Hayden Mullins likely to move to the Valley in return for
Bent and around £8.5m. Other players also thought to be in the frame are
Reading left-back Nickey Shorey, Middlesbrough's Mark Viduka and Monaco's
Yaya Toure - younger brother of Arsenal's Kolo Toure. Rumours linking the
Hammers with moves for Chelsea's Claude Makelele and Charlton's Luke Young
are thought to be wide of the mark.

Hammers trio get the nod - KUMB

England under-21 manager Stuart Pearce has named three Hammers in his 23-man
European Championship squad. The European under-21 tournament takes place in
Holland next month, and West Ham will be represented by three players -
Nigel Reo-Coker, Anton Ferdinand and Mark Noble. The final squad of 23 was
reduced from the preliminary 30-man squad named earlier this month. Noble,
who earned his first inclusion at under-21 level in that selection has done
particularly well to retain his place in favour of some more experienced
players. Under-21 captain Nigel Reo-Coker - who was 23 earlier this month -
qualifies to play as he was only 21 when qualification for the tournament
began - as was 22-year-old Anton Ferdinand.

England U21 squad

Alnwick (Tottenham), Carson (Liverpool), Hart (Man City); Baines (Wigan),
Cahill (Aston Villa), Ferdinand (West Ham Utd), Hoyte (Arsenal), Onuoha (Man
City), Rosenior (Fulham), Taylor (Newcastle), Whittingham (Cardiff); Bentley
(Blackburn), Huddlestone (Tottenham), Milner (Newcastle), Noble (West Ham
Utd), Reo-Coker (West Ham Utd), Richardson (Man Utd), Routledge (Tottenham);
Derbyshire (Blackburn), Lita (Reading), Nugent (Preston), Vaughan (Everton),
Young (Aston Villa).

West Ham United have made an £8.5m bid for Newcastle captain Scott Parker,
according to SkySports. Parker joined Newcastle in a £6.5m switch from
Chelsea although failed to settle in the North East. Despite being made club

Sky Sports News understands West Ham have tabled an £8.5million bid for
Newcastle captain Scott Parker. Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce is believed to
be willing to let Parker move on as he looks to raise money for his own
transfer plans. West Ham chief Alan Curbishley is keen to sign Parker as he
is a big fan of the England international from their time together at
Charlton. Parker, who is currently recovering from a hernia operation,
endured a difficult season at Newcastle last term after coming in for some
criticism from his own fans. Curbishley is in the market for a new

Hammers table bid for Magpies' skipper Parker - Soccernet

West Ham are understood to have made a bid for Newcastle captain and England

considerably less than the £8.5million which has been reported. West Ham
manager Alan Curbishley is in the market for a central midfielder with
captain Nigel Reo-Coker set to leave Upton Park this summer after handing in
a transfer request. Parker, 26, is thought to be keen on a move back to
London and a switch to West Ham would see him link up again with Curbishley,
his old boss at Charlton. Parker spent seven years with Curbishley at The
Valley and made his England debut against Denmark in 2003 before completing
a £10million move to Chelsea. With first team opportunities limited at
Stamford Bridge, Parker moved to St James' Park in 2005 and was made
Newcastle captain last summer. New manager Sam Allardyce has been linked
with out-of-favour Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton as a potential
replacement for Parker.

MARK VIDUKA has agreed to join Newcastle — but Scott Parker is set to leave
in an £8.5million move to West Ham. Aussie hitman Vid will be Sam
Allardyce's first high-profile signing since he took the Toon job at the end
of the season. Viduka, 31, was out of contract at Middlesbrough and rejected
a new £40,000-a-week two-year deal to stay. It is a huge blow to Boro boss
Gareth Southgate as Viduka has proved a consistent goalscorer at the
Riverside, as he was for his previous clubs Celtic and Leeds. Viduka, who
managed to bag 14 Premiership goals this term in an injury-hit season on
Teesside, had also attracted strong interest from Portsmouth. West Ham have
tabled an £8.5m bid for Toon skipper Parker — who cost £6.5m from Chelsea
two years ago. The England midfielder, 26, used to play for Hammers boss
Alan Curbishley at Charlton and fancies a return to London.

can leave St James' Park after a frustrating two-year spell on Tyneside, but
his future is far from clear. Although West Ham are in pole position to

revived after they abandoned plans to sign Hammers skipper Nigel Reo-Coker.
Defender Lucas Neill could move in the opposite direction to Parker.
However, Newcastle face competition from Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester
United for the versatile Australia full-back, who joined West Ham in
January.
New Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce wants to push the Parker deal through
quickly to start an overhaul of his squad. He is ready to step up his
interest in troubled Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton to replace
Parker, and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has dismissed reports he has
fallen out of love with the club after a season of wrangling with manager
Jose Mourinho.
Abramovich said: "My relationship with Chelsea has not changed and I
wouldn't want to change anything." Mourinho may be asking the Russian for
funds to try to land West Ham's Carlos Tevez and Valencia's David Villa, who
together would cost around £60m. Hernan Crespo will remain with Inter Milan
for another year on loan, while AC Milan are interested in Andriy
Shevchenko.

West Ham at the head of queue to sign Parker - Times Online
Gary Jacob and Oliver Kay

A frenzied start to football's transfer window promises to leave managers,
chairmen, agents and supporters in a daze. Tottenham Hotspur captured Gareth
Bale for a fee that could rise to £10 million from Southampton on Friday,
but that deal has been overshadowed by Manchester United's entry into the
market.

United have signalled their intention to retain the Barclays Premiership
trophy by agreeing deals to sign Nani, the Sporting Lisbon winger, and
Anderson, the FC Porto playmaker, and The Times's comprehensive guide to the
summer sales keeps you up to date with the latest moves and transfer
targets.

José Mourinho, the Chelsea manager, will be given up to £50 million to wrest
the title from United and win the Champions League. But new owners of other
clubs are likely to flex their muscles with Aston Villa, West Ham United and
Manchester City planning to speculate to accumulate.

West Ham offered about £8 million for Scott Parker, the Newcastle United
midfield player, last night. Parker moved to Newcastle for £6.5 million from
Chelsea two years ago. Tottenham have expressed an interest in the player
but his high wages are a problem.

West Ham have told Anton Ferdinand and Bobby Zamora that they will not be
allowed to leave. Ferdinand, the defender, has not always seen eye-to-eye
with Alan Curbishley and is wanted by Tottenham and Newcastle. But
Ferdinand's blossoming partnership with James Collins persuaded his manager
that he has a future at Upton Park.

Cahill Next On Hammers Shopping List - West Ham Fans.org
Submitted by Neville Nixon on 30 May, 2007 - 19:53.

Having virtually secured the signing of Scott Parker from Newcastle in a
deal that will eventually be worth £9 Million, West Ham have moved quickly
to try to secure the services of Everton's Tim Cahill, another Australian
International to join Lucas Neill at the Boleyn. Reports that Mark 'the
duke' Viduka is another Hammers target are however way off the mark if you
will excuse the pun. Signing an ageing striker does not fit into the current
ethos of signing players who are at their prime or approaching it, Viduka
has definitely seen better days and would represent a backward step.
Continuing with the OZ connection, our correspondent over there has been
staying in the same hotel as the Socceroos and thinks that Lucas Neill has
been chatting to Harry Kewell about how exciting things are going to be next
season. Now Hammers fans are fiercely loyal to the club and could fear
either a team full of Aussies and Taffs or a team full of ex-Charlton might
detract from the club's shared identity, but then what 'shared identity' did
the players who started the season have other than queueing up at Jack
Barclays to buy their Bentleys?

Newcastle to sacrifice Parker for Man City's Barton
tribalfooball.com - May 30, 2007

Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has reportedly set his sights on Joey Barton in
a move that could see Scott Parker on the move to West Ham. According to
reports, Allardyce is willing to take a gamble on Manchester City bad boy
Barton, who has been told he can leave Eastlands for the right price. But
any move for Barton is expected to come at the expense of the Magpies club
captain Parker, who has been a transfer target for Hammers boss Alan
Curbishley since January. At the time any possible move fell through due to
West Ham's relegation fight, but it now seems a reunion with Parker's former
Charlton manager could be on the cards. If Curbishley was to swoop for his
former Charlton captain, Allardyce would be reportedly prepared to let him
go for £8million. The Magpies manager is then tipped to use those funds to
launch a bid for Barton, who comes with a £5.5million price tag.

West Ham make offer for Newcastle's Parker
tribalfooball.com - May 30, 2007

West Ham United have reportedly made an undisclosed offer for Newcastle
captain Scott Parker. But the Hammers' offer is thought to be considerably
less than the £8.5million which has been reported. West Ham manager Alan
Curbishley is in the market for a central midfielder with captain Nigel
Reo-Coker set to leave Upton Park this summer after handing in a transfer
request.
Parker, 26, is thought to be keen on a move back to London and a switch to
West Ham would see him link up again with Curbishley, his old boss at
Charlton. Parker spent seven years with Curbishley at The Valley and made
his England debut against Denmark in 2003 before completing a £10million
move to Chelsea.

West Ham agree £8M fee with Newcastle for Parker
tribalfooball.com - May 30, 2007

West Ham United have clinched an agreement with Newcastle United over an £8
million fee for Scott Parker. The Daily Mail says Parker who played under
Curbishley at Charlton, can leave St James' Park after a frustrating
two-year spell on Tyneside, but his future is far from clear. Although West
Ham are in pole position to sign the £40,000-a-week midfielder, Tottenham's
interest has also been revived after they abandoned plans to sign Hammers
skipper Nigel Reo-Coker.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Reo-Coker is ready to roll - Newham Recorder
30 May 2007

NIGEL REO-COKER is resisting the overtures of Tottenham and playing a
waiting game in the hope of a move to Manchester United or Arsenal this
summer, writes NEIL TRAINIS. The West Ham midfielder and club captain handed
in a transfer request at the weekend having felt he was not going to be a
part of Alan Curbishley's long-term plans at Upton Park. It is rumoured that
Spurs have earmarked the 23-year-old as a potential transfer target but
according to the player's adviser Tony Finnigan, his client, who spent last
season embroiled in a relegation tussle, is keen on playing for a club in
the Champions League. "I can confirm that Nigel has handed in a transfer
request. I am surprised as captain he is being allowed to leave," Finnigan
said. "He is going and there is a lot of interest."
A figure around the £9m mark has been mentioned in some quarters as being
enough to tempt the east London club to part with Reo-Coker, who last year
was within seconds of becoming the first Hammers captain to lift the FA Cup
since Billy Bonds in 1980. Reo-Coker, however, was thought to have been
frustrated with the decision of West Ham officials and previous manager Alan
Pardew to deny him a move to Arsenal or Old Trafford on transfer deadline
day last year and there have been rumours of the player's unrest ever since.
In the subsequent months, Reo-Coker was targeted by a section of the Upton
Park faithful, who held him responsible for the club's slump down the
Premiership table which culminated in Pardew's sacking. A string of
below-par displays were perceived by some to be lethargy on the part of
Reo-Coker and he was on the end of vitriolic criticism from former Hammer
Julian Dicks who, following the 6-0 New Year's Day Premiership defeat at
Reading, insisted he had "spat his dummy out" in the wake of the Hammers'
decision not to grant him a transfer.
Finnigan, nonetheless, suggested that Reo-Coker felt the time had come for a
new challenge after just over three years at West Ham following his arrival
from Wimbledon, and as Curbishley is understood to be planning the future
minus a player held in high esteem by numerous top flight managers, it is
likely Reo-Coker will begin next season somewhere else. "At the end of the
day he never felt wanted but I am sure he will have a bright future
elsewhere," Finnigan said of Reo-Coker, who also received hate mail from
supporters. Manchester United's interest in him may have receded in light
of their probable signing of Owen Hargreaves from Bayern Munich but there
will be no lack of interest in Reo-Coker, with a bidding war expected in the
summer. Alan Curbishley was given a boost with the news that Israeli
midfielder Yossi Benayoun has signed a new five-year contract, tying him to
the Hammers until 2012, and chairman Eggert Magnusson hinted that more
signings are imminent. "We are very ambitious and Yossi is a big part of our
plans. I'm very pleased to have agreed terms to keep him at the club for
five more years," he said. "We are looking forward to bringing in exciting
new signings but we must also make sure we keep hold of the hugely talented
players we already have."

Noble to make his Mark on international stage - Newham Recorder
30 May 2007

YOUNG Hammers star Mark Noble has been rewarded for his excellent form by
winning an England call-up. The 20-year-old midfielder will join team-mates
Anton Ferdinand and Nigel Reo-Coker in the squad for the UEFA under-21
Championships in Holland next month. Noble hopes to make his England debut
in a friendly against Slovakia at Norwich next Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hammers
boss Alan Curbishley has been given a boost with the news that Israeli
midfielder Yossi Benayoun has signed a new five-year contract, tying him to
the Hammers until 2012, and chairman Eggert Magnusson hinted that more
signings are imminent. "We are very ambitious and Yossi is a big part of our

Parker Bound For West Ham - newcastlemad.co.uk
By Nu Mad Wednesday 30th May 2007

Despite the defence being Sam Allardyce's priority, he could be set for a
reshuffle in Newcastle's midfield, with Scott Parker looking likely to be
joining West Ham. The ex-Chelsea midfielder has hardly settled on Tyneside,
and he knows full well the Toon Army have not taken him to their hearts. And
with Allardyce setting his sights on Manchester City's Joey Barton, Parker
is the obvious one to make way. Parker has been a transfer target for Alan
Curbishley and West Ham since January. At the time any possible move fell
through due to West Ham's relegation fight, but it now seems a reunion with
Parker's former Charlton manager could be on the cards. If Curbishley was
to swoop for his former Charlton captain Allardyce would be prepared to let
him go for £8million, or include Anton Ferdinand in a deal. West Ham offered
Nigel Reo-Coker in a swap deal, and the England Under-21 international is
certainly on his way having expressed his desire to leave the club. But
Reo-Coker is not the sort of player to impress Allardyce, because he goes
missing too often when the going gets tough.

Noble reward for Hammers rookie - Teamtalk

On day two of the TEAMtalk Soccers, Mark Holmes steps to the podium to read
out the nominations and present the award for Rookie of the Year. The likes
of Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba and Dimitar Berbatov have been lavished
with praise for their performances in the Premiership but TEAMtalk has kept
on eye on those youngsters that have crept under the radar over the past
nine months.
Arsenal's conveyerbelt of talent continues to churn out top players, but the
likes of Abou Diaby and Denilson miss out on the contenders list, while Jon
Obi Mikel, Lee Cattermole, Micah Richards and Manuel Fernandes also fall
just short.

The first of the five contenders is Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor. The
Villans unearthed another promising youngster in the shape of Craig Gardner
and snared Watford's Ashley Young, another player who can count himself
unfortunate not to be considered for the award. But it is Agbonlahor who
has really impressed. The forward was farmed out on loan last season but has
been a virtual ever-present under Martin O'Neill this season and was one of
the main reasons behind Villa's superb start to the campaign. Things have
gone downhill for O'Neill's men since then but Agbonlahor has continued to
impress, scoring 10 goals on his way to honours for England Under-21s.

Another forward to impress this season is Matt Derbyshire and the Blackburn
man is the second contender for this award. The 21-year-old turned down a
move to Manchester United to join Rovers from non-league Great Harwood Town
in 2003 and his decision has paid dividends. He scored his first Blackburn
goal on New Year's Day and never looked back from there, notching four goals
in his next five games including a brace in the FA Cup against Luton.
Derbyshire was even on target against eventual champions United and joined
Agbonlahor in gaining a call for England Under-21s.

The third contender is Red Devils goalkeeper Ben Foster. The former Stoke
stopper was not deemed ready for the number one jersey by Sir Alex Ferguson,
but he is likely to be wearing it next term after a hugely impressive start
to Premiership life with Watford. The 24-year-old had already won plenty of
fans after his first season on loan at Vicarage Road, but his second has
seen him emerge as a real contender to Paul Robinson's England place. Tipped
to become the best 'keeper in the world by Aidy Boothroyd, Foster could well
turn out to be one of Ferguson's most inspired signings ever.

The runner-up for this prestigious award is Arsenal left-back Gael Clichy.
Much was made of Ashley Cole's controversial switch to Chelsea but it is
testament to Clichy that the England star has not been missed at the
Emirates Stadium. Some may argue the 21-year-old can not be classed as a
'rookie' after a clutch of Premiership appearances over the previous two
seasons but his transgression from Cole's understudy to the Gunners'
first-choice left-back sees him on the list. His blistering pace and ability
to overlap has seen him become one of the most feared full-backs in the
division and he will surely go on to become a France regular over the coming
years, saving Arsene Wenger a fortune in the process.

Now, the contenders are out of the way so it's time to honour the young man
who has impressed above anyone else, West Ham's Mark Noble.

Carlos Tevez was largely credited with saving the Hammers from certain
relegation, but the Upton Park faithful will tell you Noble has been just as
instrumental. The midfielder spent the first half of the season on loan at
Ipswich and it is no coincidence West Ham's incredible season-saving form
began when he was introduced to the team in March. That game ended in a
thrilling 4-3 defeat to Tottenham but Noble, who opened the scoring, did
enough to convince Alan Curbishley he was worth a regular starting spot and
the 20-year-old played in every one of the remaining nine games. The Hammers
won seven of those fixtures to ensure their Premiership status for another
year, with Noble combining with Tevez to see off the likes of Arsenal,
Everton and Manchester United. Noble's personal high point came in the
penultimate game of the season when his spectacular volley helped sink
Bolton 3-1 and lift his side out of the relegation places for the first time
in five months. The Hammers completed the job at Old Trafford which
thankfully gives us the chance to see more of one of England's top prospects
next season.

Big Sam to trigger midfield shuffle - TeamTalk

Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has reportedly set his sights on Joey Barton
in a move that could see Scott Parker on the move to West Ham. From the
comfort of his holiday home in France, Allardyce has reportedly set about
orchestrating a mass shake up involving some of the Premiership's top
midfielders. According to reports, Allardyce is willing to take a gamble on
Manchester City bad boy Barton, who has been told he can leave Eastlands for
the right price. But any move for Barton is expected to come at the expense
of the Magpies club captain Parker, who has been a transfer target for
Hammers boss Alan Curbishley since January. At the time any possible move
fell through due to West Ham's relegation fight, but it now seems a reunion
with Parker's former Charlton manager could be on the cards. If Curbishley
was to swoop for his former Charlton captain, Allardyce would be reportedly
prepared to let him go for £8million.
The Magpies manager is then tipped to use those funds to launch a bid for
Barton, who comes with a £5.5million price tag. Despite his off-field
problems, Big Sam is ready to take a risk on Barton and clearly feels he can
get the best out of the midfielder, who is also wanted by a clutch of other
clubs. And should West Ham seal a deal for Parker, the Hammers are then
expected to sanction the departure of their own captain, Nigel Reo-Coker,
who has expressed a desire to leave Upton Park and is being tipped to join
Tottenham.

THE Boys of '86 were back on familiar ground last week for their annual

fanatics battled it out with their heroes, before joining them for a
fundraising function in the evening. The players from West Ham's best-ever
league campaign were: Paul Brush, George Parris, Ray Stewart, Allan

Alvin Martin, Tony Cottee, Frank McAvennie, Geoff Pike, Steve Potts, Paul

Phil Parkes co-ordinated events. Looking a little slower than in their
prime, one wag commented: "Soon they'll be the boys who are 86!" Several
celebrities turned out for the day, including hard-man actor Ray Winstone

team) who played in goal. Former London's Burning star Glenn Murphy was also
in action for one of the fans' teams.

Daggers and Orient set to face Hammers - Newham Recorder
30 May 2007

THIS year's Premiership campaign might have reached its dramatic climax just
18 days ago but for West Ham, thoughts have already turned to the 2007-8
season. This week saw the announcement of the Hammers' pre-season friendlies
and they have certainly thrown up some interesting clashes. Having returned
from a well-earned break on July 2, Alan Curbishley's men will take on
Football League new boys and Hammers neighbours Dagenham & Redbridge at
Victoria Road on July 14 in veteran Daggers keeper Tony Roberts'
testimonial. Following a week overseas, another local derby, this time
against Leyton Orient, will ensue on July 24 for O's boss Martin Ling's
testimonial, while the following night a mixture of first team regulars and
reserves will visit former Hammer Martin Allen's MK Dons. As part of
Southend United's centenary celebrations, West Ham will make the trip to the
east coast to play the Shrimpers on July 28 and three days later they will
visit former assistant manager Peter Grant's Norwich City. Curbishley will
have the last chance to run the rule over his charges as the Hammers
complete their pre-season against a prestige but as yet unnamed opponent on
August 4, just a week before the big kick-off.

Young set to join Hammers Wed, May 30 2007 10:58 - EatSleepSport

West Ham are favourites to sign Charlton full-back Luke Young following
claims Portsmouth have pulled out of the race for his services. The England
international right-back has been heavily linked with a move away from the
Addicks following their relegation to the Championship at the end of last
season. And, despite Portsmouth being the initial front runners for his
signature, it now looks like Hammers boss Alan Curbishley will move to
reunite himself with Young who he managed at the Valley before leaving at
the end of the 2005-06 campaign. Pompey's chief executive Peter Storrie is
claimed to have ruled out his side's interest which means West Ham are in
the clear to complete a £3million swoop this summer. Young almost joined the
Hammers last summer, but concerns over an ankle injury put the breaks on
that, however he has not suffered any more problems with that in the past
season and Curbishley could now move to take him to Upton Park. Should a
deal go through it could spell the end of former Manchester United youngster
Jonathan Spector's Hammers' stint.

Parkers A Go Go But Beckhams A No No For West Ham - West Ham Fans.org
Submitted by Neville Nixon on 30 May, 2007 - 11:06.

Scott Parker's move to West Ham took a step further today with negotiations
being opened between Hammers and Newcastle, the possibility of a player plus
cash or even a straight swap of both club captains could well be in the
offing, Parker has long expressed the desire to come back to the smoke and
Reo-Coker has long expressed the desire to be idolised, so a move would suit
both players and their clubs.
Thank god for David Beckham, he is the only football element that has proved
to be able to take the mantle of head line bearer from the mighty Hammers,
reports that he might become a loanee border on the hysterical to the
downright laughable, especially those linking him "wiv the club I grew up
near", why on earth would West Ham want the Beckham circus at the Boleyn?
Having occupied more column inches in the last year than the club had in the
last ten years combined, Chairman Eggert Magnusson and his manager Alan
Cubishley will be looking forward to a season of steady progress, not a
media scrutinised roller coaster, once a decade is more than enough. There
is no doubt that Becks is still a great player, but a Hammer? I think not. -

Blades braced for two-year legal fight - The Star - Sheffield

SHEFFIELD United's legal battle with the Premiership could drag on for up to
two years, it has emerged. The Bramall Lane club, who are appealing against
the League's decision not to deduct West Ham points following a serious
breach of transfer regulations, are scheduled to hold further meetings with
their lawyers before the FAPL's forthcoming AGM. United have already served
notice they will not relinquish their membership at the meeting, and The
Star understands they are prepared to pursue the issue until 2009 if
necessary to ensure justice is served. Next month an arbitration panel will
examine the thinking behind the PL's failure to impose anything more than a
fine on West Ham who were found guilty of breaking the rules governing
third-party ownership of players. United have appointed one member of the
three-man committee which will not only investigate the validity of that
punishment but, also, look at why the PL refused to cancel Carlos Tevez's
registration despite receiving permission from the original commission to do
exactly that. But even if the panel finds in United's favour, the matter
could then find itself referred to the courts if PL executives fail to
restore their top-flight status - a process which can be notoriously slow.
The fact that Blades plc chairman Kevin McCabe and his board of directors
are prepared to go to such lengths illustrates the depth of feeling which
exists within the lower reaches of the PL - and puts paid to the theory that
United will lose heart when next season's fixtures are unveiled on June 14.
Meanwhile, Bramall Lane legend Tony Currie believes Bryan Robson's
appointment as manager could prevent United enduring a sluggish start to the
campaign. "When a team goes down there is usually a bit of a hangover," the
former England international said. "It's only natural because things can be
on a bit of a low but I don't think that will be the case here because
everyone will be desperate to impress the new manager.

Moncs returns - KUMB
Filed: Tuesday, 29th May 2007
By: Matthew O'Greel

Former West Ham favourite John Moncur - one of the driving forces behind the
launch of a major new community-based football playing and coaching facility
in Loughton, Essex – has been casting his eye over the development of the
site. The Football Academy, which is scheduled to open on July 9th on the 18
acre site of the Bank of England's former Britannia Sports Club in Langston
Road, will offer top level academy coaching for children of all abilities,
as well as ten state-of-the-art, five-a-side football courts available every
night of the week on a pay-as-you-play basis, two full-sized grass football
pitches, a fully-equipped fitness centre and a boxing gym, where training
will be offered by respected coach Jim McDonnell, the last man to defeat
Barry McGuigan. Football coaching will take place on a specially-constructed
Academy Court. The site's renovated pavilion will incorporate a brand new
Sports Bar, where plasma screens will show live sport every night of the
week, a brasserie-style restaurant and private dining and meeting room
facilities. The complex will have parking available for 170 cars. Local
schools are to be invited to use the football facilities free of charge
during the day. A series of events have been planned for opening week,
including a five-a-side tournament involving local company teams, where the
winning team will play a special Legends team of former players, and a
penalty shoot-out competition against leading former professional
goalkeepers. "The Football Academy will be for anyone in the community
excited by football," explains Moncur, who made over 180 appearances in the
heart of West ham's midfield between 1994 and 2003. "We want to resurrect
this facility for the community, make it accessible to play five-a-side with
your mates or, if you're a child, experience the best Academy coaching
around. We have set ourselves the highest standards, both in the quality of
the coaching available as well as the quality of the facilities."
Anyone interested in The Football Academy can sign up for email updates free
of charge by registering their details now at www.footballacademyuk.com.

Dailly not bitter despite late call - Teamtalk

Christian Dailly insists there was no chance of him turning his back on his
country when he got an SOS call from Scotland boss Alex McLeish. A lack of
first-team action at West Ham saw the veteran defender, 33, omitted from the
squad for Wednesday night's friendly against Austria and next week's Euro
2008 qualifier in the Faroe Islands. However, a string of withdrawals
resulted in McLeish turning to Dailly - along with Derby duo Gary Teale and
Jay McEveley - to make up the numbers. And, despite still reeling from his
absence from the original squad, Dailly insists did not hesitate to jump on
a plane from a family holiday in Portugal to London, before joining up with
the rest of the squad in Vienna yesterday afternoon. He said: "I was gutted
to say the least when I was left out of the original squad, I think everyone
would know that and I can't hide from that. But I'm here now and I have the
game to look forward to and that's all I ever wanted. "I was annoyed and
very disappointed when I was left out of the original squad but 10 minutes
later I made a little silent vow to myself that I would get back in - I just
never imagined it would be so soon. "It's been some rush to get here but I
never once thought of saying no to Scotland. I hope by now everyone knows
how I feel about playing for my country." He added: "I had to phone our
player liaison officer, Richard Simpson, to get me a pair of boots because
all of my stuff is stuck in the locker at West Ham. He was going into town
in Glasgow to get me a pair of boots and I'm sure they will be fine."
Dailly insists he is fit and more than ready for the double-header if called
upon and is hoping to have a part to play at the Gerhard Hanappi Stadium
tonight. He said: "I've been playing every week for the reserves at West Ham
and I played as skipper in a testimonial in Northampton two weeks ago and I
feel sharp. "Sure, I was chilling out on the beach when I got the call but
my mind is right. I'm here now and I'm ready to play again."
McLeish now wants every single player to demonstrate the same commitment to
the Scotland cause as Dailly has over the next seven days. He said: "These
boys will have to be top pros now. We can't afford to hear one single
complaint from them over the next week. "It's been a long, hard season and
we've come over here with a lot of injuries and with guys carrying niggles,
but I'm not throwing up excuses. "The deal's simple - no one puts the tools
away. Not when three points in Toftir are absolutely vital. "That's why I'm
delighted with the attitude of big Christian, who was left out of the squad
because I simply didn't feel I could fit him in. "But then we lost Russell
Anderson and Steven Pressley, so I tracked him down to his family holiday in
Portugal and he was straight on the next plane out. "He flew to London then
over to Vienna to meet up with the squad and that says it all about him.
"He's shown his commitment to the cause and that's what we need from
everyone now."

Reo-Coker hoping for Arsenal offer - TeamTalk

West Ham midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker will not commit himself to Tottenham as
he is holding out for a move to their north London rivals Arsenal. Spurs are
thought to have registered their interest in the 23-year-old since he handed
in a transfer request at Upton Park, but Reo-Coker has set his sights on
Champions League football next season. The player's advisor Tony Finnigan
insists there is plenty of interest in the England under-21 captain but it
is uncertain how many clubs are willing to pay the Hammers' £9million asking
price. Manchester United, Liverpool and Aston Villa are among those to be
linked with Reo-Coker but he is thought to favour a move to the Emirates
Stadium. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has long been an admirer of the
midfielder but he is likely to wait for the Hammers to lower their
valuation. Meanwhile Alan Curbishley is already looking at replacements for
Reo-Coker and has made Newcastle skipper Scott Parker his number one target.
The 26-year-old is keen for a return south and Magpies boss Sam Allardyce
will not stand in his way if the Hammers make an acceptable offer of around
£7million.

A plan worked to perfection as diminutive dynamo Tévez is tailed by
Europe's elite - FootballingWorld.com
30th May, 2007. By Matthew Day

Manchester United twice rejected the chance to sign Carlos Tévez and Javier
Mascherano, but there will be a lingering regret 12 months on as the duo
prosper on English shores. Their total value is estimated to be in excess of
£50m now and Media Sport Investments' seemingly unworkable strategy is set
to pay dividends, both for the controversial third party and the club they
dealt with, West Ham United.

Mascherano found his feet after moving to Liverpool on an 18-month loan
deal, becoming an integral part of Rafa Benítez's plans and he was the best
player wearing red during the defeat to AC Milan in the Champions League
final. He and Tévez were always bound to make it in Europe; their technical
ability is outstanding and it has led them to be proclaimed as the finest of
Argentina's exciting new generation.

However, standout displays in South America did not automatically mean
lucrative offers from England, Italy or Spain as anticipated by MSI. A
series of events, including threats to Tévez's family in Brazil from some of
the ultra supporters groups, triggered the surprise move across the Atlantic
Ocean quicker than expected, and after being rebuffed by Manchester United
amongst others, a deal was hastily arranged with West Ham.

Tévez's hunt for a goal went on and on as the Hammers fell and fell while a
row over his best position with Alan Curbishley appeared to prematurely end
his career in East London; the former Charlton boss didn't play 'Carlitos'
for a month, but results failed to improve and Tévez was recalled. His
impact was immense: he continued to work like a terrier but as the season
progressed, goals started to come and a transfer away looked inevitable.

West Ham chairman Eggert Magnusson has naturally stated his desire to keep
the 23-year-old as the club hunt for a European position in 2008, but both
Tévez and MSI are keen to maximise his value as soon as possible. Chelsea
and Liverpool, along with Manchester United, have been most closely linked
with the ex-Boca Juniors star, who says remaining in England is a distinct
probability.

"I don't have any preferences about where I'll play - my desire is to
continue playing football and I don't mind if it's in England or in another
league. One of the things I like most about English football is the contact
you have with the fans. It's special to be able to celebrate goals by going
to the crowd and hugging some of them. If I have to stay in England it
wouldn't be inconvenient because I feel completely adapted. The last three
months I felt really good in England, very comfortable."

Tévez admits, "I don't know if I'm worth £40m," and unless an exceptional
bidding war breaks out, the figure may be nearer the £25m mark. Real Madrid
and Juventus are also keeping track of his availability, although a transfer
to the capital of Spain is said to be extremely unlikely. Juve, however,
having earned promotion back into Serie A and with Marcello Lippi set to
take over as their new coach, are ready to spend. Some see the Old Lady as
his likeliest destination because Tévez is only second choice for the trio
of interested English clubs; the inflated price meaning purchasing him
represents a big risk when comparable targets cost less.

Yet Chelsea and Liverpool can afford to take this gamble. At the latter,
Tévez would assimilate immediately with Benítez's Hispanic contingent, and
if the coach employs the Ciudadela-born forward exclusively as a goalscorer,
he would surely replicate his Corinthians form, where he netted 25 times in
38 appearances.

Transfer rumours have centred on the likes of Samuel Eto'o, David Villa and
Fernando Torres, even commenting that Tévez could be utilised behind one of
these frontmen in a Wayne Rooney-type role. However, it would be both an
expensive and implausible venture – so is Tévez alone the man Benítez is
searching for? And does he justify a £25m outlay?

The Argentine is not top of Benítez's striker wish-list, but ultimately may
be the only one available come the start of the new season. The ex-Valencia
coach acknowledges this fact; Tévez could be bought with ease compared with
some of the more mouth-watering names aforementioned. Nonetheless, his
overall goalscoring record is superior to Torres's and similar to that of
Villa, though La Liga is considered a far tougher league.

According to latest reports, Tévez will not stay at West Ham as long as
Curbishley is manager, and Manchester United are ready to enter the bidding
fray as they also desperately search for a prolific striker, though Torres
remains high on Sir Alex Ferguson's priority list having come close to
signing him during last summer's World Cup.

For the English trio, and Real Madrid, Tévez is a solid reserve option if
they cannot attract their prime targets. Eto'o might cost more than £30m,
Torres has a buyout clause of 40m euros (£28m) but purportedly will be sold
for less than this, and Valencia are desperate to hold onto Villa, but their
resolve would be tested with a bid of more than £30m.

Florent Malouda wants out of Lyon and reports say Benítez is interested,
primarily because he would cost only around £10m. Yet the French
international is not the sort of predatory striker Liverpool supporters
crave. He has scored just 25 times in 136 appearances for Lyons – though
Benítez has stated that a prolific forward is not necessarily the solution
to the club's failings.

MSI are dreaming of a major windfall but whether any club on the continent
believe forking out £25m for Tévez is worthwhile is a moot point. The
prodigy might eventually head out on loan, like compatriot Mascherano, if he
cannot resolve his differences with Curbishley at West Ham and no suitable
bid is made over the next three months.

Tévez has made a name for himself in England and consequently attracted
interest from Europe's elite – but are they willing to take an almighty risk
and stump up what MSI consider value for money?

West Ham get clear run at Charlton's Young
tribalfooball.com - May 29, 2007

West Ham United are set to have a clear run at Charlton Athletic fullback
Luke Young. Portsmouth have also been linked with the England international,
but Blues chief Peter Storrie ruled out any deal yesterday. Young, who
almost joined the Hammers last summer, has already declared an ambition to
move to Upton Park this summer.

Dailly delighted to kick off flip-flops - The Herald
DARRYL BROADFOOT, Chief Football Writer May 30 2007

CHRISTIAN Dailly was summoned from a beach in the Algarve to answer
Scotland's emergency call. The Hall of Fame member was a notable absentee
from Alex McLeish's original squad, a justifiable exclusion given the
35-year-old's prolonged spell in the West Ham United reserves, writes Darryl
Broadfoot. Just when it seemed his long international association was over,
injuries to Steven Pressley and Russell Anderson ensured a return for
tonight's friendly against Austria and next week's Euro 2008 qualifier
against the Faroe Islands. He never doubted his ability to make yet another
comeback, even if many did, and despite a circuitous route to Vienna, he is
only happy to swop flip-flops for football boots. "I was in the Algarve for
half-term when I got the call and flew from Faro to Stansted to make it
here," he said. "By now, everyone will know what it means to me to play for
my country. All my stuff was in a locker at West Ham so I had to ask our
liaison officer, Richard Simpson, to get some boots for me which he bought
in a sports shop in town and I'll have to cope. I was gutted to say the
least when I was left out. I now have a game to look forward to and that's
all I wanted. I played in the reserves every week and played a testimonial
against Northampton. I was chilling out on a beach but my mind is right and
I'm ready to play. I was annoyed to be left out but I made a vow to myself
that I would get back in and I have."

Arsenal close to deal with West Ham midfielder - Soccervoice

Tottenham was favourites to sign West Ham's Nigel Reo Coker, but today
rumours are that the former MK Dons player will join Arsenal. Reo Coker's
move from West Ham to Arsenal will be an expensive one, and a possible fee
of £ 9 million is mentioned. Reo Coker has in the last season's been West
Ham's captain, but to get into the England frame it might be the right step
for him now to join a club like Arsenal.

KUMB Awards 06/07 Season - KUMB
Results Announced: Tuesday, 29th May 2007

Welcome to the tenth annual KUMB.com awards, for the 2005/06 season. We
asked you to vote in ten categories this time around; here's how you saw it.

PLAYER OF THE SEASON

1. CARLOS TEVEZ (59%)
2. ROBERT GREEN (20%)
3. BOBBY ZAMORA (10%)

Carlos Alberto Tevez stunned the world of football when he turned up in East
London on August 31st last year in order to represent the Hammers for the
coming season. Despite failing to score for his first six months at the club
his goals towards the end of season saved West Ham from relegation. Robert
Green also practiced patience before dislodging Roy Carroll from the number
one jersey since when he's never looked back. Bobby Zamora - top scorer this
season with 11 to his name - grabbed one in ten of your votes for a superb
supporting role.

Previous Winners
2005/06 Danny Gabbidon; 2004/05 Teddy Sheringham; 2003/04 Matthew
Etherington; 2002/03 Joe Cole; 2001/02 Sebastien Schemmel; 2000/01 Stuart
Pearce; 1999/2000 Paolo Di Canio; 1998/99 Steve Lomas; 1997/98 John Hartson.

YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON

1. MARK NOBLE (99%)
2. JONATHAN SPECTOR (1%)
3. HOGAN EPHRAIM/JAMES TOMKINS (0%)

With a worrying lack of young talent emerging from the Academy of late this
under-21 category was a bit of a one-horse-race; all but a few of you (Jon
Spector's family, one suspects) voted for the overwhelming winner, Mark
Noble, who finally came of age after years of promise. Jon Spector's handful
of votes saw him beat the two latest Academy hopes, Hogan Ephraim and James
Tomkins, into joint third place.

Previous Winners
2005/06 Nigel Reo-Coker; 2004/05 Mark Noble; 2003/04 Chris Cohen; 2002/03
Glenn Johnson; 2001/02 Jermain Defoe; 2000/01 Michael Carrick; 1999/2000
Michael Carrick; 1998/99 Rio Ferdinand/Frank Lampard; 1997/98 Rio Ferdinand.

BEST SIGNING

1. CARLOS TEVEZ (44%)
2. LUCAS NEILL (40%)
3. ROBERT GREEN (15%)

One of the closest categories of the year and a second award for Carlitos,
who narrowly pipped Lucas Neill to the post. Tevez arrived a month into the
season and rapidly became a fans' favourite despite the fact that barely
nobody expected him to stay beyond the end of the season. Neill arrived in
the January transfer window as part of the Curbishley revolution and
performed valiantly. Rob Green will be best remembered for single-handedly
taking on - and beating - Arsenal.

Previous Winners
2005/06 Yossi Benayoun; 2004/05 Teddy Sheringham; 2003/04 Matthew
Etherington; 2002/03 Rufus Brevett; 2001/02 Sebastien Schemmel; 2000/01
Frederic Kanoute; 1999/2000 Igor Stimac; 1998/99 Trevor Sinclair; 1997/98
Eyal Berkovic.

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER

1. JAMES COLLINS (40%)
2. MARK NOBLE (20%)
3. BOBBY ZAMORA (15%)

The Most Improved Player category has traditionally been the domain of the
unsung hero, the player less likely to shine in the media spotlight but
still performing an important role. That summary certainly applies to this
year's winner, James 'Ginge' Collins, who put in some fantastic performances
towards the end of the season. Mark Noble blossomed into a Premiership
player this term, whilst Bobby Zamora continues to confound his critics.

Previous Winners
2005/06 Marlon Harewood; 2004/05 Anton Ferdinand; 2003/04 Stephen Bywater;
2002/03 Glen Johnson; 2001/02 Christian Dailly; 2000/01 Michael Carrick;
1999/2000 Marc-Vivien Foe; 1998/99 Frank Lampard; 1997/98 Frank Lampard.

MOST MEMORABLE MATCH

1. MAN UTD 0 WEST HAM UTD 1 - 14/05/07 (27%)
2. WEST HAM UTD 3 BOLTON 1 - 05/05/07 (17%)
3. WEST HAM UTD 3 TOTTENHAM 4 - 04/03/07 (10%)

One of the most open categories but who could ever forget how the Hammers
went to the home of the Champions on the final day of the season and won to
preserve their Premeirship status thanks to Carlos Tevez's goal on the
stroke of half-time. The 3-1 win against Bolton probably produced the best
45 minutes' football of the season, whilst the amazing 4-3 defeat against
Spurs was seen by many as the catylyst for 'The Great Escape'.

Previous Winners
2005/06 Liverpool - FA Cup Final (n) 13/05/06; 2004/05 Ipswich 2-0 (a)
18/05/06; 2003/04 Ipswich 2-0 (h); 2002/03 Chelsea 1-0 (h); 2001/02 Man Utd
1-0 (a); 2000/01 Man Utd 1-0 (a); 1999/2000 Arsenal 2-1 (h); 1998/99 Palace
4-1 (h)/Barnsley 6-0 (h); 1997/98 Tottenham 4-3 (h).

GOAL OF THE SEASON

1. MARK NOBLE v BOLTON (32%)
2. CARLOS TEVEZ v TOTTENHAM (20%)
3. BOBBY ZAMORA v ARSENAL (10%)

There were some excellent strikes to vote for this season so it was no
surprise that there was no clear winner. Mark Noble's stunning volley in the
3-1 win against Bolton just about topped the pack, narrowly beating Carlos
Tevez's first ever goal for the club - a 20-yard free-kick against Tottenham
- into second place. Bobby Zamora's exquisite volley which won three points
at the Emirates completes your choices.

Previous Winners
2005/06 Anton Ferdinand v Fulham (h); 2004/05 Bobby Zamora v Ipswich (a);
2003/04 Jon Harley v Sheffield Utd (a); 2002/03 Paolo Di Canio v Chelsea
(h); 2001/02 Trevor Sinclair v Derby (h); 2000/01 Paolo Di Canio v
Manchester United (a); 1999/2000 Paolo Di Canio v Wimbledon (h); 1998/99
Stan Lazaridis v Newcastle (a);1997/98 John Hartson v Aston Villa (h).

WORST PLAYER OF THE SEASON

1. NIGEL QUASHIE (19%)
2. PAUL KONCHESKY (15%)
3. CARLTON COLE (9%)

Having 'rested' this category last season due to unprecedented success for
virtually all of Alan Pardew's signings last term it's back with a vengeance
- and the recipient this year is four-times-relegated Nigel Quashie, who
joined the club from West Bromwich Albion for £2m in January. Paul Konchesky
surprisingly perhaps polled enough voted to grab second spot, whilst the
disappointing Carlton Cole came in third. All are likely to move on in the
close season ...

Previous Winners
2005/06 No award; 2004/05 Don Hutchison; 2003/04 Wayne Quinn; 2002/03 Gary
Breen; 2001/02 Titi Camara; 2000/01 Titi Camara; 1999/2000 Neil Ruddock;
1998/99 Iain Dowie/Andy Impey; 1997/98 Iain Dowie.

WORST SIGNING OF THE SEASON

1. MATTHEW UPSON (27%)
2. NIGEL QUASHIE (24%)
3. CARLTON COLE (11%)

£7.5m represented a massive outlay for a player who managed no more than 45
minutes of football, hence this year's reinstated award going to Matthew
Upson - although through no fault of his own! Your Worst Player, Nigel
Quashie, wrapped up an unwanted double by being named in second place, as
did Carlton Cole who came in third.

Previous Winners
2005/06 No award; 2004/05 Mauricio Tarrico; 2003/04 Wayne Quinn; 2002/03
Gary Breen; 2001/02 Ragnvald Soma; 2000/01 Titi Camara; 1999/2000 Sasa Ilic;
1998/99 Andy Impey; 1997/98 Ian Pearce.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

1. FAILING TO BUILD ON LAST SEASON'S SUCCESS (25%)
2. PLAYER's BEHAVIOUR (20%)
3. JAVIER MASCHERANO (16%)

Hardly anybody expected the Hammers to be fighting relegation this season
after such a good performance last term, hence this year's winner. The
off-field antics of a number of players led to the squad rgabbing second
spot, whilst the Mascherano fiasco left many of you wondering what could -
and should - have been.

Previous Winners
2005/06 The FA Cup Final; 2004/05 Booing players; 2003/04 Millwall away;
2002/03 Relegation; 2001/02 Chelsea FA Cup defeat; 2000/01 Spurs FA Cup
defeat; 1999/2000 Mannygate.

HACKETT OF THE YEAR

1. DAVE WHELAN - WIGAN (47%)
2. TERENCE BROWN - EX-WHU (28%)
3. NEIL WARNOCK - SHEFF UTD (7%)

A new category and a deserved winner for the Keith Hackett memorial gong.
Dave Whelan wouldn't shut up about Carlos Tevez - until his club survived by
the skin of their teeth after which he fell strangely silent. Terry Brown,
who walked away from the mess he left behind £30m the richer incurred the
wrath of many of you, whilst Sheffield United's Neil Warnock left a nasty
taste in the mouth for his constant blaming of anyone but himself for his
team's relegation.

So that's that for yet another season; possibly the most bizarre in West Ham
United's history. A season which had promised so much proved to be a
disaster until the players finally got their fingers out to save the day.
Thank you to all of you who voted in this years KUMB awards - and for your
continued support of KUMB.com.

Kevin Ratcliffe on Wales - BBC
By Kevin Ratcliffe
Former Wales and Everton captain

I was in the New Zealand camp before Saturday's 2-2 draw with Wales in
Wrexham, and there's no doubt that they were fearing a pasting. They came
out, raised their game and excelled, but you have to say that was
disappointing from Wales and that we expect better. John Toshack's side
started sloppily at the back, and that atmosphere spread throughout the
team. They were punished by a very average side, and that's a major concern
ahead of next Saturday's must-win Euro 2008 qualifier with the Czech
Republic in Cardiff. In many ways it will be easier to play against one of
the best sides in the world rather than an unknown quantity. Wales will be
the ones picking themselves up to compete, they've had the kick up the
backside, and it was better to get a performance like the New Zealand one
out of the way before the crucial game. There were some encouraging signs
towards the end at the Racecourse when Wales got more fluent, while Craig
Bellamy was superb and Ryan Giggs showed glimpses of his class.
But the major concerns are at the back and the big question surrounds Danny
Gabbidon. I think it would be a big, big risk to play Gabbidon against the
Czechs after so long out with a groin injury and such a poor performance on
Saturday. There's also a concern about his partnership with James Collins,
the centre-back pairing that Wales have pinned so much future hope on.
They're both excellent players, but when they're poor they're very, very
poor and that sticks out like a sore thumb. They let us down against New
Zealand. The partnership either goes well or very badly, there's no middle
ground. If one is sloppy then so is the other, but when one is on their game
so is the other - that pattern has been happening too often. I think Collins
is a better player without Gabbidon alongside him. He takes more
responsibility and doesn't try to emulate Gabbidon. The bad parts of
Gabbidon's game tend to rub off on him. Against the Czechs I would play
someone wholehearted like Steve Evans alongside Collins, and maybe also get
Lewin Nyatanga into a five-man defence. If you ask Gabbidon he will
definitely want to start, players are always like that. But the decision has
to be made by the manager.

NRC - my vitriol - KUMB
Filed: Tuesday, 29th May 2007
By: Kevin Mousley

Any time now, no doubt, the message boards will fill up with vitriol against
Nigel Reo-Coker for having the temerity to want to take his footballing
career elsewhere. He will join the gallery of rogues alongside Paul Ince,
Frank Lampard and Jermain Defoe; players we love to hate and who's every
return to Upton Park will be guaranteed to be 'warm'.

Can I make what will admittedly be a pointless plea? Leave him alone; even
give him a cheer and a hand to remember the good times because if you are
honest with yourself, there were good times.

I have met many sportsmen and actors in my time and one thing unites them –
they are heroically self-centred. It is just the way they are. All
conversation invariably returns to either (a) their enormous talent (b)
bitterness towards those who would deny the true worth of their enormous
talent; it is just the way it is in careers where you live and die in the
court of opinion.

Many football fans, especially the 40-something's upwards, will wistfully
remember the days when players had loyalty to the club(s) they served. When
the team that turned out was essentially locally reared. It hardly needs
mentioning that those days, if they ever truly existed, have long gone.

Footballers today are no more or less 'loyal' than they were years ago. The
difference between now and then is that they have so many more options to
pursue.

Even the best footballers in the world will one day find themselves on the
footballing scrap heap and if in recompense the industry offers such
stratospheric rewards to the pick of the bunch, who can deny any
professional the chance to have a shot at the big time.

Nigel may well fall flat on his face (and I must admit I'd probably have a
wry smile to myself if he did) but look at it from his perspective. He's
been one of the youngest captains in the Premier League, captain of England
under-21s and attracted interest from Manchester United and Arsenal - or at
least he believes so.

I don't suppose too many West Ham fans felt sorry for Wimbledon / MK Dons
when we took him off their hands. Had Nigel and a few others from that team
stuck around, MK Dons would not now be plumbing the depths of the nationwide
leagues.

It is true that he appeared to lose motivation this season but to what
extent that was wilful and indolent or just the grumps associated with a dip
in personal and team form I do not know, and while there are many rumours
doing the rounds about the internal politics of West Ham this season, I have
not read anything definitive about who and what was behind it. Still less
anything credibly linking the awful events of September to March to NRC.

Also as much as Tevez was the star of the great escape, Nigel played his
part too.

I do not happen to think that he will rise much higher or make his mark in
the big four ( if that is where he is bound) or even the England seniors.
I'm no expert but it seems to me he lacks a decent first touch, doesn't
score often enough and he does not have the range of passing associated with
a top class midfielder.

Ok, I'll be realistic; engaging, or not, with personalities is part and
parcel of sport. It is often the reason in the first place we are drawn to
supporting a particular team, or indeed the factor that sparks our interest
in a sport ( Tiger Woods; golf, Flintoff; cricket etc) Nigel, to my mind,
lacks a certain charisma. He's a player that will at best be liked but never
loved.

But that does not mean he is anymore disloyal or inappropriately ambitious
than others who have gone before him. Would Rio have stuck around forever if
we had said 'pretty please? No he would not. And the same was true for those
former players and now 'Uber' fans, the two Tonys; Cottee and Gale.

Let's remember Nigel played a full part in the team that was rebuilt in the
Championship; the team that took us to promotion and to a whisker of an FA
Cup victory.

As I recall he could hardly stand with all the effort expended against
Liverpool in Cardiff and by and large his energy was his biggest single
contribution to the team over the time he has been with us. I, for one,
would like to say thanks and in the best tradition of theatre speak 'break a
leg, son'.

Young And Parker Now Linked With West Ham - West Ham Fans.org
Submitted by Neville Nixon on 29 May, 2007 - 14:52.

Newcastle's Scott Parker and Charlton's Luke Young have been linked to a
Boleyn move during the summer transfer window, having both been under the
tutelage of Alan Cubishley at the Valley, Young and Parker would welcome the
chance to link up with their mentor who is now manager of West Ham.
With Nigel Reo-Coker on his way out, Scott Parker would seem an ideal
replacement, and Luke Young has long expressed a desire to move across
London from the Addicks to the Hammers, he was almost a wearer of the claret
and blue until his move was scuppered by a medical that showed a long term
knee injury, however it now transpires that 'Tuberculosis' Brown bulked at
the price quoted and engineered the results of the medical to cast a less
than favorable light on the England International.
A certain section of the media and maybe a few fans might accuse Curbs of a
bit of nepotism, but these are players he knows and trusts, and after all in
football, if you can't trust your players who can you trust?- Ed.. ..

one off the sewer level that Estate Agents and Bailifs operate in.

Man City, West Ham move for Levante hotshot Riga
tribalfooball.com - May 29, 2007

Levante hotshot Mustapha Riga has a raft of Premiership clubs chasing him
ahead of the summer market opening. Riga's goals have lifted Levante away
from the dropzone in recent weeks and also attracted serious interest from
Manchester City, Wigan Athletic, Portsmouth, West Ham and Middlesbrough. AS
says all five clubs were represented last Sunday for Levante's victory over
Celta Vigo to watch the Ghana international.

Hammers eye Parker as Allardyce considers Barton move - Daily Mail
Last updated at 11:49am on 29th May 2007

West Ham boss Alan Curbishley is expected to trigger a midfield
merry-go-round by tabling a £7m bid for Newcastle captain Scott Parker.
Nigel Reo-Coker, who reportedly handed in a transfer request at Upton Park
on Saturday, could be used as a makeweight in a deal to snare Parker. Former
Charlton and Chelsea player Parker is believed to want to return to the
south. Aston Villa are interested in Reo-Coker after they failed to land
Steve Sidwell from Reading. But Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce is thought to
prefer Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton, who is also attracting
interest from Middlesbrough. Should Boro fail to land Barton, Fulham captain
Michael Brown could move to the Riverside instead. Brown's future is thought
to be unclear at Craven Cottage and he could be available for around £3m.
Fulham are expected to complete the £1m signing of David Healy from Leeds in
the next few days. Jerome Thomas is expected to join Birmingham in a deal
worth £1.8m later this week. The Charlton striker is desperate for
Premiership football and is set to become the next player to leave the
relegated Addicks after Hermann Hreidarsson's switch to Portsmouth.

How dare you boot us out? - Sheffield United The Star ( YAAAWWWNNNNNN -
PeterR )

SHEFFIELD United today launched another furious broadside at the FA Premier
League as the club's legal battle with them continued to show no sign of
abating. United, who are seeking to challenge their relegation to the
Championship following the PL's failure to deduct West Ham points for a
serious breach of transfer regulations during the Carlos Tevez affair, have
been warned their membership of the competition will be forcibly removed if
they fail to resign during the forthcoming AGM. Last week, Kevin McCabe,
United's plc chairman, indicated Bramall Lane plans to hold on to its card
until the arbitration panel commissioned to examine the decision to instead
punish West Ham with a £5.5 million fine delivers its verdict next month.
Unmoved by the PL's threat, McCabe told The Star: "What I absolutely fail to
understand is why the Premier League are choosing to fight us on this issue.
"Rather they should be looking to accommodate us because we have done
nothing wrong, nothing whatsoever. "If they say they are going to take our
membership back then they may well be within their rights to do so. "But
that's our stance and it is one we have taken because, as far as we are
concerned, the findings of arbitration surely take precedence over those of
the meeting."
United have appointed one member to the panel, which will be headed by
Justice Ottan, before its first sitting on June 18. They plan to make
further representations to other clubs affected by the PL's actions later
this week with special attention being paid to the league's refusal to
cancel Tevez's registration despite receiving express permission to do so by
the team which found West Ham guilty of breaking rules outlawing third party
ownership of players. Page 23 of their 24-page report includes a paragraph
which states: "We order the registration of Carlos Tevez can be terminated
by the FAPL and we order that West Ham pay the costs of these proceedings."
However, the Argentina international was subsequently allowed to continue
and played a crucial role in securing West Ham's survival at United's
expense. McCabe added: "Every week teams in the Premier League play for
points and those points decide whether you become champions runners-up or
stay in the division. "That's what everything boils down to - points. So
personally I can't understand why, when a serious breach has taken place, a
fine is deemed to be enough."

YOSSI: I THOUGHT I WAS HISTORY - The Mirror
By John Cross 28/05/2007

YOSSI BENAYOUN thought he was on his way out of West Ham before he signed a
new five-year contract. The Hammers midfielder has agreed a deal worth
£50,000 a week after a dramatic turnaround in his fortunes at Upton Park.
Boss Alan Curbishley blanked Benayoun after he captained Israel against
England in March despite not being fit to play for his club.. "I really
wanted to go away from West Ham because I was upset that the manager did not
talk to me," said Benayoun, 27. "But that's all finished now. He has told me
he wants me to stay in the team and be an important player next season."

SIGN TEV, WIN TITLE - The Mirror
Exclusive by Darren Lewis 29/05/2007

HERNAN CRESPO says whoever buys Carlos Tevez will win their league next
season. The Chelsea forward, on loan at Inter Milan, believes his fellow
Argentinian has proven himself one of football's most reliable strikers by
helping to save West Ham from relegation. Liverpool have Tevez, valued at
£25million, on their wish list, while Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal
are interested, as well as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Tevez
scored seven goals in 10 games, including the strike that beat United on the
last day of the season. Crespo said: "Carlos has shown he can adapt. He has
all the qualities to become a champion. The team which buys him instantly
has the conditions to win their championship. "Not only can he score goals,
he can also fight for what he believes in."
