West Ham United have responded to a newspaper report this morning about Robert Green's position at the club.
Chief Executive Scott Duxbury said: "Less than a year ago, Robert Green entered into a five-year contract with West Ham United. The club were delighted to recognise his status as our No1 goalkeeper and rewarded him with this long-term deal. "At the time the player entered into the new contract, he requested a mechanism to review the terms in summer 2009. This was and remains the appropriate time to review. We value Robert Green highly, that is why we gave him a five-year contract less than 12 months ago. We have no intention of selling him and do not propose to comment on this further."

The interview with Green, published in today's Sun saw the popular goalkeeper criticise the club for refusing to offer him a new deal following his Player of the Year award last season. But the club have fired back this lunchtime, dismissing Green's claims by revealing details of the deal agreed between the two parties last summer. Rob Green has slammed the club after they rejected his request for a new, extended contract. The 28-year-old number one, rated by many Hammers fans as the best goalkeeper to have played for the club since Phil Parkes has three years left on his current deal but requested a new long-term contract after being named Hammer of the Year last season. Yet despite handing Dean Ashton a five-year deal recently the club refused Green's request, leaving him on the verge of joininig any one of a number of potential suitors happy to offer him a satisfactory deal.
Talking in The Sun this morning, Green said: "After asking for a long-term contract, the club turned around and said 'no' without a real explanation. "No matter what the figures are in the workplace in terms of wages, you either feel a valued member of your staff or you don't. At the moment, I don't and clearly West Ham don't care about me. "If you put the strongest West Ham XI out I'd be the lowest earner by a long, long way. I do not even want to be close to the top earner at the club - I don't care about that. I would just like some parity. "Other guys are getting rewarded but I'm not. Dean (Ashton) signed a new contract this summer. Good luck to him. He's a great player and I have no doubts he will become an England regular. "Obviously, West Ham value him a hell of a lot more than they value me. In fact, I feel completely under-valued. The situation here leaves a question mark whether the club are rewarding success and you end up questioning yourself and questioning your future."
Green added that whilst he had not yet spoken to Alan Curbishley about the situation he was aware of the interest shown in him by a number of other Premier league clubs - a clear indication that should he not be offered a satisfactory deal, he will be looking to move on. "I know there are clubs interested in me," he confirmed. "If it turns out they value me more, then I will have to make a decision. "It is strange because if it was the other way round, and I was holding fire after being offered a new contract from West Ham, the club would be making sure I was getting hammered by the fans. Surely, it works both ways."

Alan Curbishley has rejected reports suggesting that West Ham are willing to part with defenders Anton Ferdinand and Lucas Neill. When asked by SkySports this morning whether there was any truth in the rumours linking Ferdinand with Aston Villa and Newcastle, and Neill with Manchester City, Curbishley simply replied 'no' - before repeating the answer three times. However he was happy to elucidate later in the interview when he added:
"I think everybody is jumping up and down and coming to their own conclusions. Let's just wait and see what happens. "I did say at the end of the season that it was the size of the squad which held us together, because we had tremendous problems. "There's a long way to go before that window closes and we want to improve the squad. "I feel that if I get my best XI out there we've got a decent side. The Hammers manager was speaking in the wake of the club's 4-2 pre-season friendly victory over Hampton and Richmond Borough. Aston Villa and Newcastle are believed to be considering summer moves for Ferdinand, while Neill has been linked with Turkish giants Galatasaray and Manchester City. Valon Behrami's agent has confirmed to skysports.com that West Ham have made a move to sign the Swiss international. Reports in Italy suggest the Hammers are close to sealing a £5.2million deal for the Lazio midfielder. There is interest from around Europe, including the Bundesliga, and the race is now on to seal Behrami's signature. The player's agent, Alessandro Beltrami, admits they are now waiting to see what will happen. "West Ham? We are waiting but there is a possibility," he told skysports.com. Beltrami claims that Behrami has a number of options available to him. "The player has had many requests and so we will see," he said. "We will know something later today [Friday]."

Green; Misquoted or not? - Cmon Yu Irons

I recently did an article about what a senior source at West Ham had told the BBC, and there was plenty of quoting going on. But although this doesn't mean this is all necessarily direct quotes, and words can be twisted, I do feel this one had something true about it.
Now on the subject of misquoting, lets turn our attention to the latest saga, this one involving Robert Green. I originally thought the Sun newspaper had got hold of this apparent interview, but it turns out its straight from them; and once I knew this, well what can I say…if it's from this paper, then my mind is at ease already.
This rag is notorious for misquoting and twisting things to suit their own needs and line their pockets, regardless of what people, think, much like all newspapers, but these guys are a joke. And on reading what Green had apparently said, in my opinion what he was suppose to have said seems like it's been twisted and moulded to the way this paper wants it.
I FEEL I'm right about this one, but we still need Green to come forward and clear this up, not just the club itself.

Craig Bellamy got his first goals for West Ham in nine months as he struck twice in the 4-2 win over Hampton and Richmond. Mark Noble and Zavon Hines also scored against the Conference South side but it was the efforts of Bellamy, who missed much of last season through injury, which pleased manager Alan Curbishley most. He said: 'I think Craig has shown what we missed last year. He's looked really sharp since he got himself right. Julien Faubert looked sharp too. It appears we are clear favourites to sign Behrami with the help of the new technical director Gianluca Nani for around £5.2m from Lazio who agreed a deal. A news statement from the WHUFC site regarding his signing would be a blessing to many West Ham fans.

Curbs linked to Niemi bid - Setanta

Setantasports.com understands West Ham could be ready to move for Antti Niemi following Robert Green's revelations that he is considering quitting the club. Green launched a vicious tirade against The Hammers on Friday, accusing them of severely undervaluing him. The England goalkeeper went on to suggest he could be tempted away from Upton Park if he was valued elsewhere, creating the possibility for a goalkeeping change by Alan Curbishley.
Niemi has previously stated he is ready to leave Fulham, and it is believed Curbishley will move for the 36-year-old, who has also courted interest from Liverpool earlier in the summer. Juventus have also expressed their interest in the Finland international shot-stopper, and Niemi's agent Richard Cody revealed he is awaiting developments. "The ball is currently in Juventus' court," Cody told setantasports.com. "I speak with Antti every day and we have had plenty of enquiries, but they are yet to become official approaches. Craig Bellamy made an impressive return to the West Ham side, scoring two goals in the Hammers' 4-2 victory over Hampton and Richmond on Thursday, and manager Alan Curbishley welcomed the input of the Welshman. The former Newcastle striker missed much of last season through injury but has made an impressive return to form. Hammers boss Curbishley believes that Bellamy's return could be the missing piece of the jigsaw at Upton Park. "I think Craig has shown what we missed last year," said Curbishley. "He's looked really sharp since he got himself right and hopefully one or two of the others who were missing last year can get back into it. "Julien Faubert has also looked sharp and if I get everybody fit then I think I've got a team there. "The added pace those two bring, which was missing for most of last season, will hopefully make a difference."
Curbishley is still looking to boost his squad, despite being told to cut his wage budget. "If I can get everybody fit then I'll be looking at a couple of areas where I'd like to improve. "If I can get those people in then I'll have two people competing for every position which I'll be comfortable with." The beginning of a new season allows even the most damaged of goods to start afresh. Take Craig Bellamy, who wants to wipe the slate clean and has pledged to cut out the monkey business. No more abusive text messages, no more Rocco Mediate impressions, no more mouthing off on TV calling the gaffer a liar. Just football, which, once upon a time, he was quite good at. And he made a decent start by scoring twice in a pre-season friendly against Hampton and Richmond last night. A reformed Bellamy comes fresh from his summer jaunt to Sierra Leone, spent setting up a charity project and only occasionally getting into alleged scuffles with the locals. But Bellers was upstaged by the man who fixes his Xbox, West Ham IT man Francis Quarm.
Being one of those geeky types who speaks in binary code and describes computers as "machines" to make them sound cooler, Quarm obviously was not playing for the Happy Hammers. Instead he turns out for the Conference South outfit, who lost to Alan 'Pig Lids'* Curbishley's side by a creditable 4-2 scoreline.
Quarm managed to tear himself away from his day job of interfacing more cache RAM into his Intel BX80569QX9770 QX9770 CPU processor, set aside his thick-rimmed NHS glasses and fired Hampton and Richmond into the lead with a peach of a volley. Early Doors sincerely hopes Eurosport's IT team do not read this. As the men and women who control countless people's entire working lives, they wield a frightening amount of power. What is to stop some speccy number-cruncher secretly removing the various bits of silicon-powered technology from ED's computer and replacing them with abacus parts?
Or loading dubious images onto its hard drive and blaming ED's misguided lunchtime Googlings? Nothing.

He said: 'No matter what the figures are in the workplace in terms of wages, you either feel a valued member of your staff or you don't. At the moment, I don't and clearly West Ham don't care about me.'
A year after Green's £2million move from Norwich in 2006, West Ham were taken over by an Icelandic consortium, who spent heavily on wages in transfer dealings. Green, the fans' Hammer of the Year last season, said: 'We've a whole host of players who have arrived on a lot of money since the takeover and, fair play, you take what you can get. 'Some of them have played, others have been injured, but I feel I have played a part and been good value. 'If you put the strongest West Ham XI out, I'd be the lowest earner by a long, long way. I do not even want to be close to the top earner at the club - I don't care about that. I would just like some parity. 'Other guys are getting rewarded but I'm not. It's been reported that one player has been offered so many millions to go away. 'He could be rewarded with a £3m pay-off while I would like to tie myself down to the club and they have turned around and said "no thanks". I am not getting in the England squad at the moment and I'm not getting European football, but I love it here, which is why I want to sign a long contract. The fans here are fantastic. Why would I want to leave? 'After asking for a long-term contract, the club turned around and said "no" without a real explanation. It wouldn't have been as bad if they had said no and then given their reasons. 'The club might say 'you don't need to sign a new contract as you've got three years left'. Fine. But how highly do they value me as a player? Realistically, look at Dean [Ashton] who has signed a new contract this summer. Good luck to him. Brilliant. 'He's a great player and I have no doubts he will become an England regular. Obviously, West Ham value him a hell of a lot more than they value me. In fact, I feel completely under-valued. 'The situation here leaves a question mark whether the club are rewarding success and you end up questioning yourself and questioning your future. 'I was a professional at Norwich for 10 years and associated with the club for nearly 15. So I think I have proved I am loyal. I am not looking to jump ship for an extra fiver.'
Green has not spoken to Alan Curbishley about the issue but is anxious for it to be resolved. 'The manager takes charge of firstteam matters and does not deal with contracts, which is fair enough,' he told The Sun. 'I don't want to play for another club, but I know there are others interested in me. If it turns out they value me more, then I will have to make a decision'
