Aston Villa
17.06.2010

West Ham United will kick-off the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League season
with a trip to Aston Villa. Avram Grant's side will travel to Villa Park on
the weekend commencing Saturday 14 August in a match that will see new
signing Thomas Hitzlsperger return to the club where he made 99 league
appearances between 2000 and 2005. Bolton Wanderers will be the season's
first visitors to the Boleyn Ground on Saturday 21 August before the month
ends with a trip to Manchester United. Grant returns to champions Chelsea,
where he managed the Blues during the 2007/08 season, on Saturday 11
September. A home fixture with Tottenham Hotspur follows on 25 September,
with the return trip to White Hart Lane taking place on Saturday 19 March.
The traditional Boxing Day fixture will see the Hammers make the short trip
to the other end of the District line to face Roy Hodgson's UEFA Europa
League finalists Fulham, while Wolverhampton Wanderers will visit the Boleyn
Ground on New Year's Day. The Hammers will wrap the season up with a home
match against Sunderland - the fourth consecutive campaign that the club
have been handed a Boleyn Ground date to complete the campaign. Supporters
planning for weekends away in Newcastle and Blackpool will be disappointed
by the news that the trips to St James' Park and Bloomfield Road will take
place on Wednesday 5 January and Tuesday 1 February respectively. West Ham
United will find out their League Cup second-round opponents on Wednesday 11
August, with the fixtures set to be played in the week commencing 23 August.
