Spector has faith in squad - WHUFC
Jonathan Spector is ready for the call should it come against Bolton
Wanderers
02.11.2007

Jonathan Spector is hoping to "take full advantage" should he get another
run-out for West Ham United against Bolton Wanderers on Sunday. The
versatile American international was used off the bench in the midweek cup
win at Coventry City when manager Alan Curbishley needed him "to come in and
do a job in the centre of the park". His commitment to the cause impressed
his team-mates, with Lee Bowyer for one claiming Spector did "exceptionally
well".
The 21-year-old defender has had to be content with sporadic appearances
this season and regular reserve-team football, but he told WHUTV that
patience was required. "Of course it is frustrating when you are not
playing. Every player in the squad wants to play every game which makes for
a lot of competition for places. But you know when I get the opportunity,
all I hope for is to take full advantage."
Spector, who knows about the importance of strength in depth from his time
at Manchester United, is not worried about the weeks to come. "It is not as
if we have a small group of talented players," he explained. "We have a
large squad and everyone can play so I think we will be all right."
Spector is the latest West Ham United player to talk exclusively to WHUTV.
Log on ahead of the visit of Bolton to hear from Alan Curbishley in his
pre-match press conference while you can also get full audio commentary from
4pm on Sunday.

Team spirit satisfies Bowyer - WHUFC
Lee Bowyer is up for the visit of Bolton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon
01.11.2007

Lee Bowyer is enjoying giving his all as West Ham United look to extend
their unbeaten run to four matches in all competitions on Sunday.

Speaking before the league visit of Bolton Wanderers, the midfielder
reflected on the tricky midweek cup tie at Coventry City that left he and
his team-mates having to grind their way to a hard-fought 2-1 victory. "I
think we showed a bit of character," Bowyer said. "It was a battle. The ball
seemed to be in the air a long time. The main thing in these competitions is
to get into the next round. We've done that. We can't really grumble."

Bowyer is renowned for his all-action style and it was clear for all to see
on Tuesday that his exertions had taken their toll as West Ham United
stepped up a gear in the latter stages. "I got cramp in the end so I was
struggling for the last ten minutes," he said. "I've had a cold as well for
a few days so I think I may have been a bit dehydrated and not realised."

Despite missing out through injury against Portsmouth last Saturday, he is
eager to take on Bolton in a match which could prove equally competitive
given the north-west club's lowly league ranking. "I've got until Sunday, so
it's a long enough time to recover," said Bowyer, who has already made a
significant impact this season at the Boleyn Ground with two goals in five
league games.

The 30-year-old has plenty of experience and is well-placed to assess the
progress of those around him, not least the younger players coming through.
He was particularly impressed by versatile 21-year-old Jonathan Spector who
came on against Coventry. "He did exceptionally well in midfield, taking
into account that he's a full-back. I think he looked really comfortable in
there. He battled really well and covered when we broke to stop them from
breaking."

Bowyer was also happy to have his say about Carlton Cole who has led the
West Ham United attack to great effect in recent weeks. "I'm happy for
Coley. I felt sorry for him when he was getting a bit of stick," he said of
the 23-year-old. "He's a lovely lad so I said to him: 'get your head down,
keep working hard and the other stuff will come'. That's what's happening at
the moment for him so I'm really pleased."

Faubert nearing Hammers debuts - Setanta Sports
by Laurent Picard, 01 November 2007

West Ham summer singing Julien Faubert could be set to give a major boost to
his employer by returning for the hectic Christmas schedule. Faubert injured
himself during a pre-season friendly game following his move from Bordeaux
to West Ham, and the midfielder was expected to be missing until the New
Year after rupturing his Achilles tendon. The 24-year-old joined the London
club for £6.1 million and cannot wait to impress in The Premier League. The
Frenchman is making a speedy recovery and could make his debut before the
end of the year. "Over the last couple of weeks, Julien [Faubert] has been
jogging in a pool and the water has been getting shallower and shallower so
he can put more weight on it," West Ham physio George Cooper said. "That
went really well so, as scheduled, he is now running on land which will last
six weeks. "The running will intensify over that period and he will do
jumping, polymeric movements to strengthen his Achilles. If that goes well,
he will then be reintegrated back into training."
The former Les Girondins ace is currently resting in Bordeaux, where he met
with ex-team-mates at training ground Le Haillan on Thursday.

tribalfootball.com - November 01, 2007

Lee Bowyer was full of praise for West Ham teammates Jonathan Spector and
Carlton Cole after this week's Carling Cup victory over Coventry City.

The midfielder told whufc.com: "He did exceptionally well in midfield,

West Ham United attack to great effect in recent weeks.

"I'm happy for Coley. I felt sorry for him when he was getting a bit of

Wright delighted with rare West Ham chance
tribalfooball.com - November 01, 2007

Goalkeeper Richard Wright is happy to be getting a chance at West Ham via
the Carling Cup. After victory over Coventry this week, Wright told WHUTV:
"I didn't have a great deal to do in a way but for me it is nice to be
playing in the team and hopefully go out there more often. "Hopefully I will
get to play in the next round as well. It wasn't the best performance but
the main thing is we are in the draw."

PANTSIL PREDICTS BIG THINGS FOR HAMMERS - Football365
Posted 02/11/07 08:03EmailPrintSave

John Pantsil believes West Ham have the potential for a "great season"
despite the growing injury list at Upton Park.
Pantsil appeared unsettled earlier in the season but was delighted this week
with making his first appearance of the season during the Carling Cup win
over Coventry, and he may get more opportunities if the Hammers continue to
have fitness problems.
Kieron Dyer and Julien Faubert are long-term absentees, while Craig Bellamy
and Dean Ashton have had their spells on the sidelines during the campaign,
yet Pantsil was encouraged by the midweek win at the Ricoh Arena and hopes
they can take that confidence into Sunday's Premier League clash at home to
Bolton.
"We have to keep our heads together, keep on doing the good work and if we
continue like that things will be okay," said the full-back. "This season is
going to be a great season for West Ham."

Midfielder Lee Bowyer was similarly impressed with the 2-1 victory over
Coventry courtesy of Carlton Cole's last-minute winner after the Hammers had
fallen behind earlier in the game. "I think we showed a bit of character,"
Bowyer said. "It was a battle. "The main thing in these competitions is to
get into the next round. We've done that." Cole has won around fans after
being the target for jeers last season when they were battling relegation.
"He's a lovely lad so I said to him: 'get your head down, keep working hard
and the other stuff will come'," Bowyer added. "That's what's happening at
the moment for him so I'm really pleased."

Megson sweats on key injuries - Clubcall
20071101 14:44

Bolton look set to be without Nicolas Anelka, Kevin Davies, Joey and Andy
O'Brien against West Ham this Sunday.
Anelka and Davies missed Wednesday night's clash against Manchester City in
the Carling Cup with hamstring and hip injuries respectively and are now
touch and go for the trip to Upton Park.

Joey O'Brien picked up a hamstring injury during the game while namesake
Andy picked up a back problem and also had to come off. All four players are
doubts for the weekend but boss Gary Megson is also concerned about the
bigger picture. "There is grave concern about the soft tissue injuries we
are picking up," Megson told the club's official website. "It is something
that I personally need to analyse. "Whether it is a hydration issue or a
physical condition issue it is something that I will get to the bottom of
because it simply cannot carry on. We have to get back to the old methods of
injury prevention."
