Hammers players undergo screening tests
WHUFC.com
The West Ham United players turned out in force as they underwent a screening day at the Spire Roding Hospital which is the official private hospital of West Ham United. The entire first-team squad went through extensive medical checks and had dental, eyes, blood and cardiac tests to ensure they are in full working order heading into the new season. West Ham United's Head of Medical and Sports Science Stijn Vandenbroucke believes the exercise is crucial for all the players and knows they are receiving the best possible treatment. Vandenbroucke said: "We do the screening at the Spire Roding because it is the best venue for us to do it. The partnership made my job easier to do the screening there. "We do the screening to prevent any health issues. We look at their blood, heart, their head to prevent any sickness or missing days through illness."
The Spire Roding Hospital's Head of Clinical Services Antti Kivimaki was thrilled that the players of West Ham United were able to have their screening done inside the hospital and believes they will only benefit from having the best medical facilities available to use. Kivimaki said: "It is a fantastic opportunity for us to work with a world class football team such as West Ham United. "We have fantastic medical facilities at the Roding Hospital and are happy that we can share that and help our local football club. "We are really committed here to provide the best health care and invest in technology and it is great that we can demonstrate that with the partnership with West Ham United."
West Ham United midfielder Matt Jarvis says the players know the importance of undergoing the tests and ensure they are all fully fit heading into a busy season. Jarvis said: "It is good to know what condition you are in and how you can correct it straight away. It is not all bad, you have a few needles, but it is good to know exactly what is going on." Young defender Lewis Page, who started against Werder Bremen in the final pre-season game at the Boleyn Ground also says the testing will give him the peace of mind to focus fully on the season ahead.
Page said: "You feel safe if you know everything is all-clear. You can forget about it and concentrate on your football. If there is a problem you can get it sorted out."

Page is living the dream
WHUFC.com
West Ham United defender Lewis Page admits he is living the dream at the moment and hopes to force his way into the first-team squad under Slaven Bilic this season. Page made his senior debut for the Club during the Europa League qualifier against FC Lusitans and made an immediate impression playing at left-back. The 19-year-old defender has clearly impressed new manager Slaven Bilic and was named in the starting line-up for the final pre-season game against Werder Bremen last Sunday. Page is expected to be in the squad once again for the Europa League tie against AFC Astra Giurgiu in Romania on Thursday and says he is desperate to impress the management once again. Page said: "It is more about the experience that I am getting at the moment. Every time I step out onto the pitch it feels like a dream and hearing the crowd. It is something I am not used to. "I want to push on and become a first-team player and that has to be my aim. There are players like Mark Noble and James Tomkins who are always there to help me through it and I cannot ask for much more. "The manager has shown trust in me to play in the Europa League and I hope there is more to come."
Despite failing to hold onto a two-goal lead from the first leg against Astra last week, Page is confident there is enough quality in the squad to help them reach the Play-Off round of the competition. The talented youngster says he can only benefit from playing in the Europa League and testing himself against different types of opposition. Page added: "With the mixture of senior and young players I'm sure we can go and get the job done. "I have never been to Romania but I'm sure it will be a good experience. This is about showing our potential and catching the manager's eye for a first-team place. "The young players have been training with the first-team and the sessions have been real high tempo. I can see the season going really well."

Sub-10k Bremen gate second lowest in recent history
KUMB.com

By: Staff Writer
West Ham United's attendance at Sunday afternoon's pre-season friendly against Werder Bremen was the second lowest in the club's recent history. Despite not being published by the club, the official gate figure has been confirmed at just 9,919 - a figure only beaten by the record low of 7,122 witnessed for the pre-season friendly against Pacos de Ferreira two years ago.
The high price of paying on the gate (£25) has been cited by many as the reason for staying away on Sunday. Fans were asked to pay a whopping 150 per cent more than they paid for tickets to each of the three Europa League ties played at the Boleyn so far this summer. West Ham were beaten 2-1 on the day by Die Werderaner, who collected the Betway Cup after the game in front of a virtually empty stadium.

What's the point of European qualification?
KUMB.com
Filed: Tuesday, 4th August 2015
By: Paul Turner
My first European experience was the Intertoto Cup as I was not alive for any European campaign that came before (bar the Anglo-Italian Cup, but as a six-year-old I don't think my parents would have let me travel) and the last before this season was travelling to Palermo for our ill-fated 2006-07 UEFA Cup campaign.
I made the trips to Andorra and Malta to see games that were not the best performances for our football club but to me it was as if the game was secondary to a holiday to exotic footballing locations. Those who travel abroad to watch games in Germany or Italy for example would not necessarily think of a principality in the Pyrenees or south of Sicily to obtain their footballing fix.
When else would there be a chance to visit these locations for the purpose you were out there for, surround by fellow Hammers who have travelled far and wide? From the Russian Hammers (via the Czech Republic) in the camp site overlooking the pitch in Andorra to the very mixed crowd out in Matla, the adventure has been embraced.
Along the way little memories will stay with me - like the cab driver in Malta after the game who escaped the traffic queue down the wrong side of the road and then dirt roads whilst loudly playing 'It's My Life' by Bon Jovi, or the bar in Andorra that got my beer tab badly wrong and undercharged me by quite a lot.
Not related to the match itself, but I would have never have been there if this football club of ours had not qualified for the Europa League via the back door.
WHU qualifying for the Europa League through the fair play league now looks ironic with the spate of red cards we have been obtaining but I still think the European adventure has been worthwhile, to the fans, to this point. It was with great disappointment I saw the following as taken from an article published on the club's website after the 2-2 draw against FC Astra Giurgiu on Thursday 30th July:
With the Barclays Premier League season to start at Arsenal less than 72 hours after the second leg in Romania, Bilic concluded by confirming that he will think carefully before choosing which players will make the 1,200 mile round-trip to Giurgiu. "It was the same plan, no matter what the result is, that the majority of the players who will start against Arsenal will not participate in that game," he explained. "We would like to do both, but the Premier League was and is the priority for us."
Having read those comments, it made me wonder what is the whole point then of our season then? To try and win a trophy or at least compete or finish as high in the league as you can so you are afforded more prize money at the end of the season? I don't see it as either one or the other.
From time to time you get threads in the KUMB Forums along the lines of asking what you would prefer to see, relegation and win a cup or stay up or England winning the world cup or a WHU FA cup win. Apart from it all being "if my auntie had" situations I do not see for the life of me why you should limit your ambitions. If we actually gave the Europa League a fair go and got knocked out then so be it. If that meant we are cream-crackered towards the end of the season for playing too many games then so be it.
People want to see youngsters given a chance in the first team and with the Premier League being the be all and end all apparently, when do you give those youngsters a chance? No disrespect to Joey O'Brien as an example but the old, worn out saying of 'Premier League experience' would mean you play Joey at right back against Arsenal (if fit) instead of someone like Reece Oxford or anyone else from the youth sides because they lack this experience.
How are they going to get that first team experience if you don't try them? If you don't play them in the league, then when do you? There is a competition where if you get through the qualifiers then you have a minimum of six more games to play. We are already in it (for now) so this should be seen as a bonus, not a millstone round our necks, distracting us from our 'priority'.
Besides, this priority our manager speaks of, does it get to a point in the forthcoming league campaign where we might look like we are going to qualify for European competition? If that's the case then what do we do? It's the priority above all else so it would be a rich irony. Something the fans have embraced and have gone so long without but for the club's excellent pricing of the home games, looks like it could hardly care.
Sure you have to cover the games on the media platforms but the talk has always been about pre-season schedule disruption and trying to balance being in more than three competitions in the same season. The ultimate ambition of the owners is to obtain 'Champions' League qualification. That could be either straight in or qualifiers. That's still an extra competition, but what then of the priority?
It is a real chicken and egg situation which is tied into investment into the playing staff and ambition at the club. The move to the new stadium is meant to be a launch pad to greater achievements - but wouldn't one of those achievements be a strong Europa League campaign in the season before you enter that stadium?
End of the day, our Europa League campaign could very well end this coming Thursday on the banks of the Danube - and who knows when we will qualify again for European competition? The owners and our current manager hope as soon as possible, as long as it does not distract from the priority of winning lots of money for finishing 11th rather than 12th.
To follow West Ham United is not for the glory of winning trophies and trinkets every season. As I said to a Chelsea supporting friend (she has supported them all her life…) supporting this club is a family birth right, handed down through the generations as if it is an antique heirloom. It might be a ropey reproduction off a factory production line from China or it might be the real deal but that's half the fun not knowing.
I just hope those who travel to the game this Thursday have a blast and we all have the opportunity to watch a fourth and final qualifying round game at the Boleyn this season. I don't want this European excursion to end any time soon, even if it is seen as a distraction.

West Ham joint-chairman David Gold upbeat for new season

West Ham joint-chairman David Gold is in positive mood ahead of the new season and says the club will be going all out to celebrate their final campaign at Upton Park. The Hammers move to the Olympic Stadium in Stratford in time for the start of the 2016/17 season and the club are planning to commemorate their time at the Boleyn Ground, their home since 1904. "We'll have events at most games remembering our heroes," Gold told 92Live. "Against Leicester (for the opening home game on August 15) it's going to be a claret and blue day and it's really a celebration of the history of our football club. "We are very optimistic and I believe we have a better squad of players than we had last season and we are not finished yet. "We finished 12th but at Christmas we were sitting in fourth place, so I am optimistic and the fans are optimistic. "Slaven (Bilic) is a passionate manager and already the fans are warming towards him. Collectively I think we will have a good season."

Gold: "99% sure that Enner Valencia will not require an operation"

West Ham Chairman David Gold has told his 119,000 followers 0n twitter that he is 99% sure that Enner Valencia will not require an operation despite the club's Head of Medical and Sports Science Stijn Vandenbroucke refusing to rule it out. Vandenbroucke told the club website on Monday that Valencia could be set to return to action in ten to 12 weeks. "Enner visited the consultant on Monday morning, when we discussed the results of the scans he underwent on the injury last Friday," said Vandenbroucke. "The outcome is that there is now a very small chance that he will need an operation and that we instead hope to treat the injury to his fibula using conservative treatment, which we hope to start in three weeks." "We will know for sure whether or not Enner will need an operation next week, but if everything goes to plan we hope that he will be available for selection again within ten to 12 weeks. "Enner will spend the next three weeks in a walking boot and using crutches, after which we will start his rehabilitation." "We've lost Valencia for the beginning of the season. We were already believing that we required another striker in the squad and we'll be doing everything in our power to bring in the best players we can"

Breaking news: 'fit again' Carroll to rejoin squad
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on August 4, 2015 in News, Whispers
C AND H
West Ham boss Slaven Bilic has been handed a massive pre-season boost with the welcome news that Andy Carroll is ready to rejoin training. The big man has been out since February, but after posting videos of himself on Twitter running unrestrained and free, he is set to rejoin the first team squad. The former Newcastle and Liverpool striker was forced to go under the knife and it had been feared he could be out of action for a further two months. The video shows the 26-year-old tackling shuttle runs, sprints and general ball control as he closes in on a return to action. They also give fans a glimpse of what they have been missing as he juggles the ball before turning and volleying it impressively into the goal behind him. West Ham boss Slaven Bilic will be hoping to have Carroll back sooner rather than later after learning that striker, Enner Valencia, will be ruled out for 12 weeks – and may yet require surgery. The club had revealed a couple of weeks back that the centre forward may be held back until October. But the race now appears to be on to get him fit asap.

Irons monitoring United's Hernandez "very closely"

C AND H
West Ham are continuing to monitor No 1 striking target Javier Hernandez very closely. Despite being linked with a number of possible loan signings, boss Slaven Bilic loves the Manchester United youngster and wants to bring him to Upton Park. It's being rumoured that we have offered United around £11.9 million for the player, although a top level source told ClaretandHugh a few minutes ago: "That's not true, but we are very keen indeed and he remains the No 1 target. "We very much want to bring him to Upton Park, but our understanding is that Manchester United will only sell if they can bring in two strikers." The Hammers are likely to go as high as £14 million for the Mexican if the correct scenario develops, exceeding – by about £5 million – the funds they have available in the transfer kitty. The two Davids usually dig into their own pockets during the transfer window, and it's our understanding they will happily do so again if there is a realistic prospect of luring Hernandez to east London.

Sunderland Close In On TWO West Ham Targets
Posted by whufc_news@hotmail.com on August 4, 2015 in News, Transfer Rumours
Sunderland are closing in on the double signings of Moussa Sow and Leroy Fer, according to former Sky journalist Graeme Bailey. The Black Cats are believed to have already had one offer rejected for Fenerbahce forward Sow – who Slaven Bilic is a keen admirer of. However, they appear to be close to agreeing a fee of around £9m for the player – a price the Hammers are not willing to pay for a 29 year-old who has not proved himself in a major European league. It has also been suggested that the Wearsiders are set to sign QPR midfielder Leroy Fer on a season-long loan deal. The East Londoners recently made an enquiry for the player, according to Sky Sources – however reliable insider @ExWHUEmployee has stated that the club are not overly keen on a deal for the Dutchman.

Danny Murphy backs Dimitri Payet to become fans favourite at West Ham
HITC
Lewis Doe
Former England midfielder Danny Murphy has suggested that Dimitri Payet will become a very popular player at West Ham United. Former Tottenham and Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy told talkSPORT that he feels Dimitri Payet is the West Ham summer signing that fans will really take to. Payet was announced as a summer signing for the Hammers earlier in the summer and he's had an instant impact at the club, influencing a number of pre-season games ahead of an important Premier League season for the club. "Dimitri Payet from Marseille is an interesting one because he's a skilful player who plays in that number ten role, he can find a pass and he can definitely make things happen, he'll be a fans favourite, he's a talent," he told talkSPORT.
Will Payet start for West Ham?
It would be a major surprise if West Ham boss Slaven Bilic decides not to use Payet in behind the striker against Arsenal this weekend and for the majority of the season. He seems to be a player who likes to get into possession of the ball as quickly as possible before turning on the opposition and attacking them directly. He's got the pace and agility to be able to dodge heavy challenges designed to knock him out of possession and should improve in terms of consistency as he plays more Premier League games.
How will the fans take to Payet?
The best way for Payet to improve his relationship with the club's fans is to play effectively and influence big games. If he does that while entertaining the fans, then he will quickly become a very popular player around the club and someone who could have a big say on the side's Premier League position.

Slaven Bilic to risk Europa League place by fielding second-string West Ham side against Astra Giurgiu
West Ham face tough test in second leg of third qualifying round tie after drawing first leg against Astra 2-2 and manager is weighing up options
telegraph.co.uk
By Matt Law1:14PM BST 04 Aug 2015
Slaven Bilic is ready to underline his frustration with the Europa League by risking West Ham United's place in the tournament and fielding a second-string side against Astra Giurgiu.
West Ham face a tough task in Thursday night's second leg of their third qualifying round tie after drawing the first leg against Astra 2-2. Manager Bilic saw central defender James Collins become the third player to be sent off in three rounds for West Ham, who were given a Fair Play place in the qualifying rounds, and the Croatian was sent to the stands himself.
Enner Valencia also suffered a serious knee and ankle injury in the first leg that West Ham say will keep the forward out for at least 12 weeks, although medics fear it could be significantly longer. Bilic has been dismayed by the standard of refereeing during the Europa League qualifying rounds so far and is understood to be carefully considering whether or not the competition is worth risking West Ham's season over. The Hammers travel to Arsenal for their first Premier League game of the season on Sunday, just three days after they will have faced Astra in Romania.
With the Arsenal fixture and injuries and red cards weighing heavily on his mind, Bilic is likely to rest a number of key players against Astra and largely rely on youngsters and fringe players. The move could anger a number of West Ham fans, who travelled out to Andorra and Malta to watch the team in the first and second qualifying rounds, and have booked trips to Romania.
One first-team regular who is likely to face Astra is on-loan right-back Carl Jenkinson because he cannot play against his parent club Arsenal at the weekend. West Ham are confident of receiving the green light to sign forward Raul Jimenez in a move the club also hope will boost their bid to convince Javier Hernandez to move to Upton Park. The Hammers have made Manchester United's Hernandez their top striker target, ahead of Charlie Austin, and believe the fact he is an international team-mate of Jimenez for Mexico could work in their favour.
West Ham are prepared to pay £12 million to land Hernandez, but realise they face a battle to convince him to move to Upton Park. Co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold are willing to offer the 27-year-old big wages and prospect of linking up with Jimenez at club level.

West Ham 'set to meet Inter Milan defender Danilo D'Ambrosio's agent ahead of transfer move'

West Ham are reportedly close to sealing the transfer of Inter Milan defender Danilo D'Ambrosio, with the player's agent set to meet with the east London club to finalise a deal. The Hammers have enjoyed a productive transfer window but remain on the market and versatile Italian defender D'Ambrosio, who can play either on the right or left flank, has caught their attention. The 26-year-old, who played 23 games for the Serie A outfit last season, is said to want more first team opportunities and, according to reports in Italy, West Ham are willing to offer him a chance in the Premier League. Reports say West Ham will meet the full-back's agent soon with the aim of completing a deal before the start of the new campaign.

West Ham transfer news: Bilic to bid £12m for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez
Eening Standard
KEN DYER
Published: 04 August 2015 Updated: 12:55, 04 August 2015
West Ham are ready to return to Manchester United with an improved offer for Javier Hernandez of around £12 million. The club were already on the hunt for a new striker before Enner Valencia injured his ankle and knee last week, sidelining him for up to three months. That injury has made the search more pressing, with Diafra Sakho the only one of last season's first-choice strikers available for Sunday's Premier League opener at Arsenal. Hernandez is a realistic option. West Ham have had one offer of £8.5m rejected but are prepared to return with an improved bid for the 27-year-old. West Ham have agreed a one-season loan deal for Atletico Madrid striker Raul Jimenez but now face a battle to obtain a work permit for the Mexico striker.

TURKISH FOOTBALL EXPERT EMRE SARIGUL SHARES AN INSIGHT INTO SLAVEN BILIC
ironsithecircle.com
Slaven Bilic has enjoyed great success with Besiktas before coming to West Ham – but how did he do it? Turkish football expert Emre Sarigul tells us about him.
Michael Oliver
When West Ham appointed Slaven Bilic as their new manager – not many of us knew much about his playing style or how he conducted himself on and off the pitch. Turkish football expert Emre Sarigul tells us about Bilic's managerial style, how he manages his players, and what to expect from the Croatian at Upton Park.
How did Bilic turn Besiktas around and make them a title contender?
Slaven Bilic took over a Besiktas side rocked by a financial crisis and without a home stadium. The club are still rebuilding the Inönü stadium which will be renamed the Vodafone Arena.
The slogan used by the club president was 'FEDA' which translates to sacrifice. Players were asked to reduce their contracts, the club shifted to a transfer policy of signing young and unproven talent in a bid to cut spending. Bilic managed to create a side that contended for the title and almost won it over his second season in charge. Several players developed under his stewardship especially Gökhan Töre who finally started living up to his billing after a few disappointing seasons following his exit from Chelsea as a youth.
What was about his character that made the fans take to him the way they did?
One of Bilic's main strengths was knowing how to use his charisma. Bilic was the darling of the media and the fans. He identified with the clubs main fan base due to being a bit of a rebel – the main fan group Çarsi have anarchic undertones hence the A in Çarsi being an Anarchist A. He made an extra effort to learn Turkish, almost always greeted the fans after the games and in interviews generally was full of praise.
What kind of tactics and formations did Bilic use with Besiktas?
Bilic generally used a 4-2-3-1 and at times a 4-4-1-1. The key to his side was the holding midfielders. Veli Kavlak and Atiba Hutchinson formed the backbone of Bilic's side protecting a shaky defensive line and contributing to attacking play. Both midfielders are physical with Atiba being the more technical player with a decent passing ability.
How did he approach the big games against English opposition – Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham?
Undoubtedly Besiktas played their best football against English opposition last season and Bilic's side thrived as the underdog. The Black Eagles only narrowly lost out 1-0 on aggregate to Arsenal, drew/beat Tottenham and knocked Liverpool out of the Europa League Round of 32 against all the odds. The most impressive part was that Besiktas were rarely outplayed in any of the six games and even out passed Arsenal in London.
What is Bilic like as a player manager – his handling of the players?
On the one hand Bilic is capable of getting the best out of his players but he was also criticised with mental frailty when the going got tough. Besiktas were in pole position to win the league title last season but could not handle the pressure and Bilic failed to find a solution. The same happened the season before. This would be the one thing he really must work on.
Do you think his playing style will work in the Premier League?
Bilic has already demonstrated that he can compete against Premier League sides. Besiktas caused the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool all sorts of problems. He knew their weaknesses, how to exploit them and how to motivate his players for these games. His main test will be maintaining a consistently high level of football throughout the season. Bilic failed to win a single derby during his time at Besiktas and was criticised for lacking bottle in big games. Bilic will go down well with the fans and West Ham are likely to play far more aesthetically pleasing football than under big Sam last season but he still has quite a bit of room for improvement.

Exclusive - 'The sooner West Ham get knocked out of the Europa League, the better', says celebrity fan James Corden
By Joe Moore (@JoeyMoore) | Tuesday, August 4, 2015
Live on talkSPORT
West Ham must forget about the Europa League and focus on ensuring they are playing Premier League football in their new Olympic Stadium next season, according to celebrity fan James Corden.
The British comedian and American talk show host joined talkSPORT to talk everything about his beloved Hammers. While their top flight rivals continue their pre-season preparation, West Ham's campaign began weeks ago, having already stumbled through the first two rounds of Europa League qualification on penalties in Malta. In their first leg of their third round clash, Slaven Bilic's side squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Romanian minnows Astra Giurgiu, and they suffered a further blow with striker Enner Valencia ruled out for 12 weeks after being stretchered out of the game. Teams' domestic form has often suffered from participating in Europe's second tier tournament, and Corden believes the sooner West Ham are knocked out, the better. "I would be over the moon if he got knocked out," the Late Late Show host said in an exclusive interview with the Sports Bar. "I just don't know what we gain from it, apart from the stress in puts on the squad and on the team. "I read an interview with Mark Noble, who said when they got back from Malta they arrived back at 5am and then had warm-down training three hours later - it can't be great for the team. "Look at Everton, they have a strong squad of players but it was only once they were knocked out of the Europa League that they started to climb out of trouble [domestically] last year. "All that matters for West Ham is that when it comes to our first game in the Olympic Stadium, we're playing in the Premier League, because it will be a catastrophe if we're not."

Julian Dicks says West Ham's Reece Oxford is a top talent

Subhankar Mondal
West Ham United first-team coach Julian Dicks seems to rate youngster Reece Oxford highly. West Ham United first-team coach Julian Dicks has hailed Reece Oxford as a "top talent" on social networking site Twitter. The 16-year-old defender has featured during the Hammers' pre-season programme and has already made his competitive debut for the London outfit. The centre-back played for Slaven Bilic's side during the first leg of their Europa League first qualifying round against FC Lusitans last month. Oxford played well against the Andorran side and was impressive during the 3-0 win at the Boleyn Ground. The England Under-18 international captain normally plays as a centre-back, but on that occasion he was deployed in midfield. Oxford became the youngster ever player to play for West Ham, breaking Billy Williams' 93-year record in the process. The youngster is likely to get chances in the first team this season, but Dicks has urged caution despite hailing him as a "top talent".
West Ham have a good and competitive squad, but there will be times when Oxford will be needed. The youngster could be given valuable first-team experience in cup games, although at this stage of his career, he should be more focused on doing well with the West Ham youth teams.

West Ham have been handed a major boost with the news Andy Carroll has returned to training following his latest injury woes. The former Newcastle and Liverpool man was forced to go under the knife and it had been feared he could be out of action for a further two months. However, Carroll took to Twitter on Tuesday to post a video of himself taking part in a training session alongside one of the club's staff. Carroll also gives fans a glimpse of what they have been missing as he juggles the ball before turning and volleying it impressively into the goal behind him. West Ham boss Slaven Bilic will be hoping to have Carroll back sooner rather than later after learning that striker Enner Valencia will be ruled out for 12 weeks and may yet require surgery.

Former West Ham academy graduate Seb Lletget makes MLS team of the week, should club have kept him?
HITC
Damien Lucas
Former West Ham United academy graduate Seb Lletget has been named in the MLS team of the week and is earning rave reviews playing for LA Galaxy. Seb Lletget's brilliant form for the Galaxy so far this season, where he has shone in midfield alongside ex-Premier League stars Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane, leaves West Ham wondering if they made the right decision letting him leave earlier this year. The 22-year-old has six goals from midfield in just 10 games so far this season and his latest was a brilliant finish after starting a flowing move with a mazy run from the halfway line against Colorado Rapids at the weekend. The Upton Park outfit had high hopes for Lletget when they brought him over from American club Sporting Santa Clara in 2009. But after progressing through West Ham's famous academy he never managed to make a breakthrough in the Premier League. When he did play his one competitive first team match for the club it came in a 5-0 humbling to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup in the 2013-14 season. He was never trusted enough by Sam Allardyce to make the step up and play regularly in the English top flight after that and was released so he could return to his homeland with Galaxy in a bid to kickstart his career.
Why Lletget's form proves he should have been given a chance
Some fans will argue the MLS is far inferior to the Premier League. But the standards in the US have been considerably raised in recent seasons will the arrival of the likes of David Silva, Gerrard, Keane, Andrea Pirlo, Frank Lampard and many other players who still have plenty to offer. But his form has been outstanding and has rightly earned him a place in the official MLSsoccer.com's Team of the Week. Described as "one of the most in-form players in Major League Soccer" Lletget was praised for helping kickstart Galaxy's comeback from 1-0 down against Colorado Rapids to win 3-1. He is currently second behind former Hammers teammate Keane in the LA scoring charts. While West Ham are well stocked with midfielders, Lletget's form might leave some West Ham fans wondering what might have been and questioning why a promising young player was released in favour of keeping the likes of Kevin Nolan, Morgan Amalfitano and Matt Jarvis on the books. And with the club's involvement in the Europa League this pre-season it could have been the perfect stage for Lletget to prove himself like a number of his former academy teammates have done. Perhaps under the more attack minded tutelage of Bilic, Lletget's obvious talent would have blossomed saving the Hammers millions in the transfer market.

Former West Ham academy graduate Matt Holland says old club will be worse off under Slaven Bilic
HITC
Damien Lucas
Pundit Matt Holland, who started his career at West Ham United, has predicted where he thinks his old side will finish in the Premier League this season. The 41-year-old former midfielder started his career with the Hammers but subsequently joined Bournemouth, before spending long spells at Ipswich Town and Charlton Athletic, where he retir ed in 2009. He was a consistent Premier League performer and played more than 550 games in his career even representing the Republic of Ireland 49 times and scoring five goals. Since retiring Holland has worked as a pundit for the likes of the BBC and more recently Talksport. And he told the radio station he thinks the Hammers will be worse this season under Slaven Bilic than they were last time out under Sam Allardyce because he predicts his first club will finish 13th. That's one place worse off than last season's 12th place finish which was deemed so disappointing it ultimately cost Big Sam his job in east London. Most fans accept Bilic would have to go some to match Allardyce's first half of last season, which was the club's best ever start to a Premier League campaign and had them fourth by the turn of the year. But with nine signings so far this summer and the promise of more to come, as well as the appointment of former Croatia boss Bilic, Upton Park has been buzzing with excitement. Holland, who never made a senior appearance for the Hammers, has put a dampener on any hopes for at least a midtable finish, though, predicting West Ham will finish below the likes of Stoke City, Southampton, Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United. He has backed the Hammers' London rivals Chelsea to retain their Premier League crown, Arsenal to finish third and Tottenham Hotspur to finish sixth.

Mark Noble: The only way for West Ham's players to approach life under Bilic
HITC
Lewis Doe
West Ham United midfielder Mark Noble has explained how he feels the squad need to adjust to the changes happening at the club. West Ham United midfielder Mark Noble told the club's official website that the team just need to find a way to adapt under manager Slaven Bilic. Bilic has had an opportunity to work with all sections of his squad ahead of the new season and adapting to life under a new manager is something that Noble has had to get used to throughout his career. Noble suggests that it's a real test of character for the team, as they look to build on the progress made under old manager Sam Allardyce. "It's been different but you've got to adapt. I've played under six managers at West Ham alone and you need to learn to adapt," he told whufc.com. "The training has been different. You need to get used to life to the new regime. We'll see the test of character we have in the first four or five games in the new season." "We have to stay positive, it's the best league in the world to play in and we cannot wait to kick off."
Players under pressure
The players are under pressure to adapt and learn quickly because of how important it is for West Ham to get into a good early position in the Premier League. Bilic is a very different manager to Sam Allardyce, with different ideas but he's got enough experience and talent in the team to be able to adjust to new ideas quickly. The danger for West Ham is that the top quality sides they are competing against on a weekly basis, will take advantage of any indecision or weakness they see in the team's setup. The good news in terms of the Premier League opener against Arsenal this weekend is that Bilic has already had a chance to get his ideas across in competitive Europa League games.

West Ham 'make £11.9m transfer offer to sign Manchester United's Javier Hernandez'
Jamie Sanderson for Metro.co.uk
Monday 3 Aug 2015 11:31 pm
West Ham have made an £11.9million transfer offer to sign Javier Hernandez, according to reports. The striker is out-of-favour at Manchester United this summer after returning to the club following an unsuccessful loan spell at Real Madrid. And while the Mexican remains unsure of what to do next, West Ham are hoping to tempt him to London and El Mundo Deportivo reports a £11.9m bid has been made for his services. That's likely to be an amount that should tempt United into selling. The Hammers are in need of another striker with Enner Valencia facing three months out with injury.

West Ham in for D'Ambrosio?
By Football Italia staff
West Ham United will meet with Inter full-back Danilo D'Ambrosio's agent tomorrow, according to reports. The Hammers have been shopping in Serie A already this summer, bringing in Pedro Obiang from Sampdoria and Angelo Ogbonna from Juventus. Tuttomercatoweb suggests the English side will continue their Italian recruitment drive, setting up a meeting with D'Amrosio's agent, Vincenzo Pisacane, tomorrow. The Nerazzurri are believed to be asking for between €8m and €10m [£5.6m-€7m] for the Italian, who has spent the last two seasons at San Siro. The 26-year-old made 23 appearances for the Beneamata last season, with the former Torino man proving two assists.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain jokes that being on loan at West Ham has corrupted Arsenal team-mate Carl Jenkinson's taste in music
By NICHOLAS GODDEN FOR MAILONLINE
PUBLISHED: 00:21, 4 August 2015 | UPDATED: 00:51, 4 August 2015
A year is a long time in football and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has claimed that a season on loan at West Ham has 'corrupted' his Arsenal team-mate Carl Jenkinson. Chamberlain, who scored the winning goal as Arsenal beat Chelsea in the FA Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday, has revealed that the right back has developed a penchant for country music - and the 21-year-old is far from impressed. England midfielder Chamberlain described Jenkinson, who has returned to Upton Park for another year, as having the worst taste in music before performing a rendition of one of 'Jenko's' favourite tunes. Chamberlain expressed concern for his team-mate before explaining that he has been attending county music concerts in the United States. 'Carl Jenkinson's music is the worst type of music,' Oxlade-Chamberlain told Arsenal Player. 'He really has taken a turn for the worst. 'I really am worried about him. I have been watching his Snapchats and he's at a concert in Salt Lake - country town. 'There is a tune that goes a little something like this. I don't know who the guy is that sings it but I hear Jenko singing it all the time.' Chamberlain says before breaking out into a song. 'Rock me momma like the wagon wheel,' he sings, 'rock me momma any way that you feel... something lie that. That's what we're dealing with, country town Jenko. 'Chequered shirts on, his got his shades, flip-flops and his shorts and he is there in Salt Lake City living it up to Mr country man and I'm just looking thinking "he's changed". West Ham has corrupted him.'

Co-owner David Gold says West Ham have the squad to cope without Enner Valencia but do they?
HITC
Damien Lucas
West Ham United co-owner claims Slaven Bilic has the squad to cope after striker Enner Valencia was ruled out for up to three months with injury. West Ham United joint-chairman and co-owner Gold has wished Enner Valencia a speedy recovery but tried to put a positive spin on the situation. Gold was speaking to West Ham's official website about the striking situation at the club after it was confirmed the pacy Ecuadorian star would miss the next 10 to 12 weeks with a lower leg injury sustained in the 2-2 Europa League draw with Astra Giurgiu. Bilic's side have been linked with the likes of Queens Park Rangers forward Charlie Austin and Atletico Madrid's Raul Jimenez, as per the Evening Standard. But while the co-owner did say the Hammers were looking to strengthen their forward line, he feels the current pool of strikers is good enough and strong enough to cope with Valencia's absence. "In football you need that bit of luck and injuries play a part in the season," Gold told whufc.com. "We have to take it and be strong. We have got Sakho, Zarate and players who can do a job while Valencia makes his recovery."
If Gold truly believes Bilic has enough strength in depth up front then the Hammers could be in for a long, hard season. They have let Carlton Cole and Nene go over the summer and only brought back outcasts Mauro Zarate and Modibo Maiga into the fold after both were frozen out under Sam Allardyce. While Zarate has shown he could be a useful player to have around this pre-season, Maiga has only reinforced that he has no future at the club with a string of woeful performances extending his miserable spell in east London. With Andy Carroll ruled out until at least September, it leaves just one senior proven Premier League performer up front for the Hammers in Diafra Sakho. While Sakho is a guaranteed starter, it must be remembered that the Senegal striker suffered two long lay-offs himself through injury last season so the club are once again living very dangerously when it comes to going into a season adequately equipped with strikers. Valencia's injury has merely exacerbated a need that was already there ahead of what is one of the most important seasons in West Ham's history as they play their final campaign at their Boleyn Ground home of 112 years before moving to the 54,000 seater Olympic Stadium.

Report: West Ham return for United striker Javier Hernandez after seeing initial bid rejected
HITC
Tom Thorogood
West Ham United have been linked with a move for Manchester United's Javier Hernandez. According to a report in Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, West Ham United are preparing a new offer for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez after seeing an initial bid turned down. The Hammers have been one of the busier clubs in the transfer market thus far, but they now face a potential striker dilemma ahead of the new season due to Enner Valencia's long-term injury. The Ecuadorian star was stretchered off in last week's 2-2 draw against Astra Giurgiu with an ankle injury and has subsequently been ruled for up to 12 weeks, joining Andy Carroll on the sidelines. As such, manager Slaven Bilic is short on striker options and fresh reports in Spain claim that the East London outfit have renewed their interest in Mexico international Hernandez after having a previous bid rejected.
The details
The report states that a new £11.9 million offer is being weighed up after a previous bid in the region of £8.5m was turned away by Louis van Gaal's side. So far it is unclear whether Hernandez – commonly known as Chicharito – has a future at United after spending the previous 12 months on loan at Real Madrid. The talented striker barely featured for Madrid last term, but he still managed to chip in with nine goals in all competitions and played a key role in the club's run to the Champions League semi-final.
West Ham United a good option?
Despite Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao leaving United this summer, the Red Devils still boast plenty of attacking options and it is clear Chicharito would once again struggle for game time. West Ham represent a fine choice - an established Premier League club with Europa League football on offer and the guarantee of regular first-team football considering their injury situation. The Hammers are currently embarking on a new era under Bilic and with their impending move to the Olympic Stadium, Hernandez would be wise to want to play a part in the club's new adventure.

Noble gearing up for big week
WHUFC.com
Mark Noble is raring to go ahead of the most important week of West Ham
United's 2015/16 season so far. Noble captained the Hammers during their
final pre-season friendly game on Sunday - a 2-1 defeat at home to Werder
Bremen in the Betway Cup. The competitive football now comes thick and fast,
though, with a trip to Romania to face AFC Astra in a UEFA Europa League
qualification game on Thursday before the much-anticipated Barclays Premier
League season gets underway with a trip to Arsenal on Sunday. "We're pretty
fit and strong and we're ready to get going," Noble said. "We've picked up a
few injuries along the way but we've got the squad to cope with it so we
just need to look after the ones that are fit and get back the ones that
aren't fit and then concentrate on the next two games to come. "It's not
ideal travelling to Romania three days before the season start but we've got
to deal with it."
The Hammers' pre-season has been an action-packed adventure with plenty of
talking points, not least the penalty shoot-out win in Malta that saw Slaven
Bilic's side set up Thursday's third qualifying tie with Astra. The volume
of games has thrown up a few new injury concerns but Noble is confident that
absentees including Winston Reid, Aaron Cresswell, Matt Jarvis and Kevin
Nolan will be back and raring to go before long, whether that be in Romania
or north London on Sunday. "I wouldn't say we were disappointed with the
result against Werder Bremen, the pre-season results don't really matter.
Having said that, nobody likes to lose as we're all professionals. "We lost
a couple to injury in the run up to last Thursday's game at home to Astra
but I'm sure we'll get them back soon. We then have to travel to Romania on
Wednesday morning to play Astra the following day and then Arsenal on Sunday
for the big one, which we're all looking forward to. "We've got good enough
players to go to Romania and win the game comfortably. What the manager does
about the team I don't know as we've got Arsenal on Sunday so what team he
picks is down to him. I'm looking forward to both games - I enjoy playing
football so of course I'm looking forward to playing."
As well as wearing the captain's armband for the past two games, Noble
proudly carries the mantle of being the Hammers' longest-serving player.
Having been around the block and seen a number of different managers and
styles since his debut in 2004, he knows it is down to the playing squad to
adapt to new era under Bilic as quickly as possible. "It's been different
but you've got to adapt. I've played under six managers at West Ham alone
and you need to learn to adapt. "The training has been different. You need
to get used to life to the new regime. We'll see the test of character we
have in the first four or five games in the new season. "We have to stay
positive, it's the best league in the world to play in and we cannot wait to
kick off."

Enner Valencia update
WHUFC.com
West Ham United have received an update regarding Enner Valencia's lower-leg
injury. The Hammers forward visited a specialist consultant on Monday
morning to discover the extent of the problem he suffered during last
Thursday's UEFA Europa League third qualifying round first leg tie with
Astra Giurgiu. Head of Medical and Sports Science Stijn Vandenbroucke said
the Ecuadorean is set to return to action in ten to 12 weeks. "Enner visited
the consultant on Monday morning, when we discussed the results of the scans
he underwent on the injury last Friday," said Vandenbroucke. "The outcome is
that there is now a very small chance that he will need an operation and
that we instead hope to treat the injury to his fibula using conservative
treatment, which we hope to start in three weeks. "We will know for sure
whether or not Enner will need an operation next week, but if everything
goes to plan we hope that he will be available for selection again within
ten to 12 weeks. "Enner will spend the next three weeks in a walking boot
and using crutches, after which we will start his rehabilitation."
Valencia spent Monday with his teammates at Spire Roding Hospital – West Ham
United's official private hospital – where the squad underwent their annual
pre-season screening, including visits to the dentist, optician and blood
tests.

Joint-Chairman wishes Valencia a speedy recovery
WHUFC.com
West Ham United Joint-Chairman David Gold wishes Enner Valencia a speedy
recovery and is confident the Club have enough strikers in the squad to have
a successful start to the campaign. Valencia was ruled out for ten to 12
weeks with a lower leg injury after he picked up the problem during the 2-2
draw against AFC Astra Giurgiu in the Europa League last Thursday. Mr Gold
has indicated that the Club are looking to strengthen the forward line and
add even more competition for Diafra Sakho, Mauro Zarate, Modibo Maiga and
Andy Carroll. Gold said: "In football you need that bit of luck and injuries
play a part in the season. We have to take it and be strong. "We have got
Sakho, Zarate and players who can do a job while Valencia makes his
recovery. "Hopefully not that far away is one of the great centre forwards
of his type in Andy Carroll and we want him back as soon as possible, but we
will not take any risks. "David Sullivan, Karren Brady and Slaven Bilic are
working their socks off to bring in the best players available, but we will
not panic. We will get the right player at the right price."

Ladies secure thumping pre-season victory
WHUFC.com
West Ham United Ladies ran riot against Hertford Town Ladies in their latest
pre-season friendly at Hertingfordbury Park on Sunday afternoon.
With the FA Women's Premier League South Division season opener now less
than a fortnight away, Hammers manager Marc Nurse watched on as his side
recorded a dominant 16-0 over their Hertfordshire opponents.
Nurse named a strong, attacking line-up for the game, with new signings
Paige Anderson-James and Shirvae Edwards both joining Emma Sherwood in
attack.
Meanwhile, full backs Kayleigh Xidhas and Katie Bottom played a more
attacking role on the wings. Captain Stacey Little partnered Danica Revell
and a trialist in defence, whilst Jess Parlane was selected between the
sticks.
It was evident from the opening whistle that the Hammers were likely to pick
up an impressive scoreline due to their strength all over the pitch and
within 20 minutes, they had already established a three-goal lead.
Former Millwall Lionesses striker Sherwood netted twice from inside the
penalty area after using her skill to beat a number of defenders, before
holding midfielder April Bowers smashed in a third for the away side from 30
yards out.
Within the next 12 minutes, West Ham doubled their lead. Sherwood again
found time and space inside the Hertford penalty area to secure a 24 minute
hat-trick, before fellow ex-Millwall Lionesses forwards Edwards and
Anderson-James also got their names on the scoresheet for the Hammers' fifth
and sixth.
It was only going to get much worse for the hosts in the run up to half time
as Nurse's side smashed another four goals past a helpless home goalkeeper.
Xidhas timed a late run into the penalty area well to meet a right wing
cross and volley powerfully into the far corner, before Sherwood notched a
fourth goal and Anderson-James was on target twice more for her hat-trick.
Into the second half and it seemed like anything Sherwood could do,
Anderson-James could do too. Within seven minutes of the restart, the
powerful 17-year-old was perfectly placed on the edge of the box to meet
Xidhas' cross to volley home the Hammers' eleventh of the game.
Nurse then decided to keep the game fresh and introduce a trio of
substitutes. Sherwood, Edwards and Anderson-James all made way with nine
goals already in the bank between them, giving Lily Mellors, Kerry Stimson
and Danni Ritson a chance to get in on the action too.
The Hammers were denied a number of extra goals where their efforts had
rebounded off the post and crossbar and just after coming on, Stimson lobbed
the home goalkeeper and was denied by the upright, while captain Little
thundered a header off the crossbar.
Just after the hour mark, Mellors notched her first goal of the game as she
made it 12-0 by meeting a dangerous right wing cross by Revell to head into
the top corner of the net.
Play was then stopped for just over ten minutes after Stimson challenged the
home goalkeeper for the ball with a slide tackle and unfortunately, the
stopper needed extended medical attention for her injuries.
However after the game restarted, the Hammers got back to business and Nurse
reintroduced his attacking forward line of Sherwood, Anderson-James and
Edwards in place of goalscorers Bowers and Xidhas, along with a trialist.
It was Edwards who then extended the scoreline further with her second goal
of the game, before Mellors was again well placed in the box to pick up the
scraps and grab her second of the game too.
With the game already deep into injury time, defender Revell fired home an
unbelievable effort to get herself a rare place on the scoresheet, with
Mellors completing a perfect hat-trick in the 96th minute to take the
scoreline to 16-0.
The Hammers now just have two pre-season fixtures left before they kick-off
their league campaign away to Coventry United on Sunday 16 August.
Nurse's side have arranged to travel to Gillingham Ladies on Wednesday 5
August with kick-off in that game scheduled for 7pm at Gillingham's Training
Ground, before the Ladies close their pre-season fixture list at home to FA
Women's Premier League South West Division One side Shanklin Ladies on
Sunday 9 August at 2pm.

Lanzini delighted with Hammers welcome
WHUFC.com
Manuel Lanzini was thrilled to step out onto the Boleyn Ground turf for the
first time in Sunday's Betway Cup defeat to Werder Bremen.
The 22-year-old Argentine, a summer loan arrival from UAE side Al-Jazira,
was a second half substitute on Sunday as he made his first appearance for
his new Club.
He impressed with his neat footwork and was not far away from levelling with
a free-kick towards the end of the contest and now he is hungry to show what
he can do in competitive action.
He told West Ham TV: "I'm very happy, very excited about making my debut,
and playing with the first team.
"I think it was what I wanted, and looking beyond the result, I think there
are good things and there are also some things to improve. However,
personally I am very happy to have played.
"I wanted to know how it felt [to play in the Boleyn Ground] and think the
club has a magnificent fanbase. It was really a very good game for a first
team debut, and now I have to spend time with them [the fans] adjusting and
getting comfortable with them, However for now I feel more at home, they are
very passionate and fanatical fans, and that's great."
Lanzini could make his European bow on Thursday when the Hammers travel to
Astra Giurgiu for the second leg of their UEFA Europa League qualifier and
he is looking forward to the test.
He continued: "I think that we have to put our minds to Thursday's match
against Astra in Romania. I think it will be a difficult match, but I think
we will put our minds to it and concentrate of getting the best result.
Afterwards we will have to turn our attention to the match against Arsenal
coming up on Sunday, and for everyone that is very important.
"Truthfully I feel very comfortable; there are a lot of top quality players.
It is a very big team with players who look to accomplish many things and
achieve greatness, and I think that is a very important mentality for a team
to have, and we will try our best to accomplish that this upcoming season."

Enner Valencia: West Ham striker ruled out for up to 12 weeks

West Ham striker Enner Valencia is expected to be out for up to 12 weeks
with a leg injury. The Ecuador international damaged his right fibula after
scoring in last week's 2-2 draw against Astra Giurgiu in Europa League
qualifying. The Hammers hope the 25-year-old will not need surgery, but he
will spend the next three weeks in a protective boot. Valencia scored four
goals in 32 Premier League games last season, his debut campaign for the
Upton Park side. "We will know for sure whether or not Enner will need an
operation next week, but if everything goes to plan we hope that he will be
available for selection again within 10 to 12 weeks," said Hammers head of
medical and sports science Stijn Vandenbroucke. In an Instagram update,
posted before the news was confirmed, Valencia said: "I would like to thank
everyone for the support and the affection shown on this difficult moment.
"Thank God, today I received great news as I won't need surgery, all the
best!"
West Ham co-chairman David Gold has said the club are looking to make a
signing to cover Valencia's absence, with Atletico Madrid's Raul Jimenez a
reported target. Slaven Bilic's side play the second leg of their Europa
League third qualifying round tie with Astra Giurgiu on Thursday.

West Ham forward Enner Valencia has been ruled out for up to 12 weeks with a
leg injury. Valencia tweeted on Monday to confirm he does not require
surgery after suffering the problem in the Europa League third qualifying
round draw with Astra Giurgiu. But West Ham have moved to clarify the
situation, insisting the Ecuador international may yet require an operation
after damaging his right knee and ankle in the 2-2 draw with the Romanian
side at Upton Park. Valencia scored the opening goal in that game as the
Hammers spurned a two-goal advantage but he has since been assessed by a
consultant and Stijn Vandenbroucke, the club's head of medical and sports
science, revealed he will be out for an extended period. "Enner visited the
consultant on Monday morning, when we discussed the results of the scans he
underwent on the injury last Friday," he told the club's official website.
"The outcome is that there is now a very small chance that he will need an

With club-record signing Andy Carroll also ruled out through injury, Hammers
manager Slaven Bilic is likely to try and sign another attacking player
before the transfer window closes. Bilic has Diafra Sakho, Mauro Zarate and
Mobido Maiga to choose from for the Europa League return leg in Romania and
their Premier League opener against Arsenal on Sunday.

Overview
Having kicked off their Europa League qualifying campaign in the middle of
July, West Ham's season is already well underway in what has been a summer
of change at the club.
Slaven Bilic has taken the hot seat after West Ham's dismal finish to the
2014/15 campaign under Sam Allardyce, and the Croat has been heavily backed
in the transfer market. Winger Dimitri Payet and defender Angelo Ogbonna are
the most expensive of their new arrivals, and old heads such as Stewart
Downing, Carlton Cole and Jussi Jaaskelainen have been shown the door.
The Hammers are aiming high ahead of their move to the Olympic Stadium in
2016, but Bilic will have to juggle domestic commitments with the
energy-sapping demands of Europa League football in order to meet the club's
expectations of a top-10 finish.
Stuart Pearce's view: "I think they'll have a very solid season. Starting in
the Europa League will probably help them hit the ground running. When I
played for West Ham we were in the Europa League and we started very well
fitness-wise and form-wise. Some people suggest it hinders the team, but I
don't think so. "I think the supporters will embrace BIlic going in as an
ex-player. I think they're looking at a good season. They will be looking
for a decent run in the cups and probably finishing in the top half."
Stuart Pearce's one to watch: "Winston Reid. They've secured him on a new
contract and I think it's important he has a good season at the back for
them."
Opta stats
- West Ham have ended their last 23 top-flight seasons with a negative goal
difference.
- No player assisted as many Ligue 1 goals in 2014-15 as Dimitri Payet (17).
- Last season, Mark Noble became West Ham's highest ever Premier League
appearance maker (currently on 222).

Doctors say Valenicia injuries don't need surgery
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on August 3, 2015 in News, Whispers
C AND H
Crocked Enner Valencia has revealed he won't need surgery on the knee and
ankle injuries he suffered against FC Astra last Thursday night. Early fears
voiced to ClaretandHugh that he faced a six month lay off have eased and the
Ecuadorian international is now hoping for a return to action by November.
After a visit to a consultant specialist this morning, Valencia took to
Instagram to announce: "I would like to thank everyone for the support and
the affection shown on this difficult moment. "Thank God, today I received
great news as I won't need surgery, all the best!"
The club has still not said when they expect Valencia to return – and with
record signing, Andy Carroll, also out injured, boss Slaven Bilic remains
desperate for reinforcements to his frontline.

Jimenez appeal outcome hit by Home Office delays
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on August 3, 2015 in News, Whispers
C AND H
West Ham will not discover the outcome of their work permit appeal for
Atletico Madird striker Raul Jimenez until later this week at the earliest.
Although the 24-year-old is a regular in the Mexican national team, new FIFA
guidelines mean he does not automatically qualify for a UK work permit.
As a result, West Ham's disappointed top brass are appealing to the Home
Office in a bid to reverse a decision to reject the player's application to
be allowed to reside in the UK – but they will be forced to swat it out
until the end of the week to see if the authorities are prepared to do a
u-turn.
A Hammers insider told ClaretandHugh: "The appeal will be heard later this
week. The FA merely give us the result, you don't get personal hearings
anymore."

Dicks offers hope to Irons 'forgotten man' Obiang

Julian Dicks has indicated Irons 'forgotten midfielder' Pedro Obiang may be
ready to take his place in the squad for the Premier League clash against
Arsenal on Sunday. Summer signing Obiang, who joined the Hammers from Serie
A outfit Sampdoria, has had a knee injury that has meant he's only been able
to complete only a few pre-season minutes – but Dicks is hoping he'll come
into the reckoning for the clash at the Emirates. Dicks cleared up
suggestions that Obiang may not be a part of the plans when asked on Twitter
when he would be ready to take his place in the team. "Maybe this week,"
revealed the Hammers coach.

Europa League: Thursday's predicted line-up
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on August 3, 2015 in News, Whispers
C AND H
Slaven Bilic looks set to stick with his clear first team choices for
Thursday's Europa League trip to Romania, as the Hammers attempt to secure a
win against FC Astra. The manager faces seriously selection dilemma for a
game the team has to win if they are to progress in Europe, given the two
goals FC Astra secured in the draw at the Boleyn. And with a growing feeling
inside the club that Europa is becoming a luxury we can barely afford, Bilic
– whilst putting out as strong a team as possible – is likely to play it
safe! Although no squad will be named for a couple of days, insiders believe
that the Slav will go with the likes of Diego Poyet, Morgan Amalfitano and
Kevin Nolan for the qualifying game.
ClaretandHugh was told this morning: "We have had three fine nights of
European football, but it's come at an awful price – with Enner Valencia's
injury. The manager has now been forced to change his entire approach
towards this and the start of the season after the 2-2 draw at the Boleyn.
"We see him taking no risks whatsoever with any of those who will feature
either in the team or on the bench at the Emirates."Carl Jenkinson is set
for an outing given that his loan agreement doesn't allow him to play
against Arsenal, and we expect the team for Thursday night to look something
like this:
Randolph; Jenkinson, Burke, Henry, Page; Amalfitano, Oxford, Poyet, Nolan,
Jarvis, Maiga.
But the manager may give Manuel Lanzini another chance to impress after
making his debut in Sunday's friendly against Werder Bremen.

Sakho predicts big Payet partnership
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on August 2, 2015 in News, Whispers
C AND H
Diafra Sakho reckons he and Dimitri Payet will provide a prolific goal
scoring partnership for the Irons this season. The Senegal hitman got on the
end of a delicately threaded Payet ball into the box to give the Hammers
lead against Werder Bremen before they were beaten 2-1. And afterwards 'Sak'
told West Ham TV "He [Payet] always creates goals, whether that's for me on
Sunday or Valencia last time. "He's always there to give those assists. I
think he'd prefer to give the passes than even score his own goals and we're
there to take advantage of it. "If you have a player like him, you've got to
make the most of it and try to score as many goals as possible. I hope
that's the first assist and he's going to have plenty more. "Above all, it
was a good cross, and as I had taken two steps forward, I was telling myself
I was just trying to guide the ball towards goal and that's what I managed
to do. Two Anthony Ujah's goals denied the Irons but Sakho said: "I think
overall we played well, it was another opportunity to prepare. "Though we
lost on Sunday, I think we did some good things, and we have to stress those
good things for the league season to come."

Striker Deal Done, According To Reports

C AND H
West Ham United have agreed a loan deal to sign Atletico Madrid forward Raul
Jimenez on a season-long loan deal, according to Spanish source AS. The
Hammers are in the market for two new strikers, following the news of Enner
Valencia's long-term injury, and the 24 year-old Mexican is on the verge of
becoming the club's 9th signing of the summer transfer window. There have
been some suggestions that West Ham will be signing Jimenez permanently, but
those reports are wide of the mark, as Atletico do not want to sell the
player. It is believed that the deal will go through once the player has
been granted a work permit.

Winston Reid is set to be fit for the opening Premier League season at
Arsenal next Sunday. The Kiwi has been missing from recent games after
picking up a knock in training and has missed several pre season games as a
result. But coach Julian Dicks has reported he's ready to start training
which is great news for Slaven Bilic whose central defensive pairing
preference looks likely to be him and Angel Ogbonna. There's an outside
chance that with With James Collins and James Tomkins suspended in Europe,
Reid could be drafted into the team for the second leg Europa Cup clash
against FC Astra on Thursday night. However, boss Bilic may well decide to
'mix and match' in Romania and make Arsenal a clear priority.

Hammers to appeal work permit
Posted by Sean Whetstone on August 3, 2015 in News, Whispers
C AND H
The Sun are reporting that West Ham are lodging an appeal in an attempt to
get Raul Jimenez a work permit. They also claim the Hammers will pay
Atletico Madrid a £1.4m fee for a season long loan. Despite Jimenez being a
regular for the Mexican national team, new guidelines implemented by The FA
mean that the 24-year-old will not automatically qualify for a work permit
and West Ham are appealing that decision. Jimenez has scored one goal in 28
games for Atletico, but his record of 39 goals in 102 games for Club America
and 8 in 36 games for Mexico is what interests the Hammers.

Mark Noble has shrugged off the friendly defeat inflicted by Werder Bremen –
and is focusing on a very big week for the club. The popular midfielder
believes there was much to admire in the team's first half performance
against the highly-rated Bundesliga outfit, even though the Hammer's
eventually lost Sunday's pre-season game 2-1. "I wouldn't say we were
disappointed with the result against Werder Bremen," said Noble. "The
pre-season results don't really matter. Having said that, nobody likes to
lose as we're all professionals. "We lost a couple to injury in the run up
to last Thursday's game at home to Astra – but I'm sure we'll get them back
soon." Speaking to the club's website, the midfielder added: "We travel to
Romania on Wednesday morning to play Astra the following day, and then it's
Arsenal on Sunday for the big one, which we're all looking forward to.
"We've got good enough players to go to Romania and win the game
comfortably. What the manager does about the team I don't know as we've got
Arsenal on Sunday, so what team he picks is down to him."

Irons Euro campaign or PL? Not even a contest
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on August 3, 2015 in Hugh's Blogs, News, Whispers
C AND H
And so the Euro debate rages on – should Slav throw his first teamers into
the action on Thursday evening in Romania or save them for the Arsenal game
on Sunday. As far as I'm concerned it's a no brainer and as soon as we are
free of this competition the better for all concerned. We've had three
European nights at the old lady, have suffered a major injury, blooded some
youngsters in competitive football and shown that even old campaigners like
James Collins can get themselves sent off – probably unfairly – and in silly
circumstances. In other words – a mixed bag
Meanwhile a new manager is attempting to get everybody fit and develop a
system of play where the Premier League is unquestionably his and everybody
else's priority. To see it differently is for me entirely unrealistic and
on a scale of one to ten in terms of importance the Arsenal match gets an 11
in my world. It's been demonstrated on enough occasions that participating
in this competition can damage the Premier League chances of teams – ask
Everton and Spuds fans. I believe we have a really good squad this season
but I really don't think it's strong enough to cope with the demands of a
prolonged European campaign which in the end will only bite us on the bum. I
always want West Ham to win. But if we do fail on Thursday night I can't
help but believe t will be a blessing in disguise.

Diafra Sakho believes West Ham signings have added quality to squad
HITC
Sean Lunt
The Hammers have been busy this summer and the striker is pleased with their
business. West Ham striker Diafra Sakho has told the club's official website
that the quality of the club's signings is more important than the quantity.
The Hammers have been busy in this transfer market so far, with new manager
Slaven Bilic having brought in a number of new faces to reinvigorate his
squad. So far, Dimitri Payet seems to be the most exciting of those players
given his performances in pre-season so far but the likes of Angelo Ogbonna,
Manuel Lanzini and Pedro Obiang have all added serious competition to the
West Ham side. And Sakho believes that new level of competition will push
everyone to do better next season as they seek to guarantee a place in the
first team. "It's the quality that counts, the quality that we're able to
make the most of," he told whufc.com. "It's also good that there's a little
more competition for everyone, it's going to push everyone to give their 100
per cent to try to play."
While West Ham have been so busy this summer, it is fair to say they still
need a couple of more signings ahead of the new season. It is something
clearly in their thinking as well, with owner David Gold having told Sky
Sports that they are now targeting another striker as well as trying to
secure a deal for Alex Song. The striker position will likely be the most
prevalent of those positions, with Enner Valencia having picked up and
injury and Andy Carroll still not fit. Who they can target though is a big
question, with the market being short on top forwards.
Charlie Austin looks the most likely target, but his big asking price may
prove a stumbling block in any move. If the Hammers would be willing to meet
that, is yet to be seen.

West Ham 'to force through transfer of QPR striker Charlie Austin, £15m deal

Louis Sealey for Metro.co.uk
Monday 3 Aug 2015 9:52 am
West Ham have stepped up their interest in Charlie Austin and intend to land
the QPR striker this week, according to reports. New Hammers boss Slaven
Bilic is desperate to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new season
after Enner Valencia was ruled out until Christmas with a knee and ankle
injury. With Andy Carroll also sidelined until October West Ham have yet
again turned their attentions to Austin, who they have been linked with all
summer. The Mirror report that the east London outfit will offer QPR winger
Matt Jarvis as bait to secure the deal, while a fee in the region of
£15million is wanted by Rangers. Austin scored 18 Premier League goals last
season and sat out of QPR's friendly against Atalanta yesterday amid
speculation of a move.

West Ham morning news: David Gold gives transfer update, double injury boost
HITC
Subhankar Mondal
West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has told Sky Sports that the club are
keen on signing a new striker this summer. Star forward Enner Valencia will
miss the start of the 2015-16 season due to a leg injury he suffered during
a Europa League qualifier on Thursday. "We were already believing that we
required another striker in the squad and we'll be doing everything in our
power to bring in the best players we can," Gold told Sky Sports. Gold has
also said that West Ham want to sign Alex Song from Barcelona before the
summer transfer window slams shut next month. The former Arsenal defensive
midfielder played on loan for the Hammers last season. Song did well for the
London outfit during the 2014-15 campaign, and Gold wants to sign the
27-year-old on a permanent contract from Spanish and European champions
Barcelona. "We enjoyed Alex Song's contribution last season but these things
are ongoing," said the 78-year-old. "We're not panicking, we're not going to
do poor deals. We're going to do sensible deals."
Fitness boost
West Ham have received a double injury boost ahead of upcoming games against
Astra Giurgiu in the Europa League qualifying and Arsenal in the Premier
League. According to the club's first-team coach Julian Dicks, summer
signing Pedro Obiang could be fit to play this week. Dicks has also stated
on social networking site Twitter that New Zealand international defender
Winston Reid will return to training today.

WEST HAM WANT FER

Michael Oliver
West Ham have made an enquiry to signing QPR midfielder Leroy Fer this
summer. Sports Mole, who quote Sky Sports, say that West Ham are pursuing a
deal for the Dutch international midfielder, who made 31 appearances for
Rangers last season which saw them relegated to the Championship. Sky
Sports, who quote the Guardian, say that the 25-year-old is also being
looked at by Sunderland on a season-long loan deal for another crack at the
Premier League. West Ham are still trying to sign Alex Song from Barcelona
this summer to add to their midfield depth, but are waiting the green light
from the La Liga side to complete the deal having already agreed terms to a
contract with the Cameroonian. Esteban Cambiasso has also been mentioned as
a possible target for the Hammers, but that deal has reached a dead end.
While Alex Song remains a Barcelona player, and Pedro Obiang injured for the
time behind, a deal to sign Leroy Fer would be very timely indeed.

WEST HAM RIVAL SAMPDORIA FOR DENIS
West Ham are battling Sampdoria for the signing of Atalanta striker German

ironsinthecircle.com
West Ham are in a real battle to sign Atalanta striker German Denis this
summer. According to Italian source TMW, fellow Serie A side Sampdoria have
registered their interest in signing the former Argentine international
striker before the end of the transfer window. A prior report stated that
Atalanta may be forced to sell their main striker this summer, as they are
strapped for cash and could sell Denis for a cut-price fee as a result. The
33-year-old has 69 goals in 226 Serie A appearances for Atalanta, and is
being looked at by West Ham as a back up for crocked strikers Enner Valencia
and Andy Carroll. Enner Valencia looks set to miss at least five months of
football as it's been reported today that the Ecuadorian will be out until
the New Year through a severe knee and ankle injury suffered against FC
Astra; Andy Carroll is still on the road to recovery from an MCL tear he
picked up against Southampton back in February.

West Ham 'close' to sealing surprise Ligue 1 striker swoop
By James Jones - Aug 2, 2015 0

West Ham are hoping to complete a deal for Paris Saint-Germain striker Jean
Christophe Bahebeck, according to Metro. Hammers boss Slaven Bilic is in
urgent need of a striker after Enner Valencia was ruled out for up to six
months with knee and ankle injuries earlier this week. And despite rumours
of a move for QPR's Charlie Austin and Atletico Madrid's Raul Jimenez, Metro
claim the Irons are close to agreeing a loan move for the 22-year-old. The
striker has made 34 first team appearances for the Ligue 1 giants but has
struggled to force his way into a regular starting spot with ahead of Zlatan
Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani. Bahebeck scored two and provided three
assists in 15 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG. The French youngster is quick and
powerful and would certainly offer a different dimension to Bilic's
attacking line…

Dave Sullivan tweets Ravel Morrison asking him to re-join West Ham
HITC
Tim Poole
In a strange social media move, David Sullivan's son contacted the former
West Ham midfielder. The son of West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan has
pleaded with Ravel Morrison on Twitter for a return to the Hammers. Indeed,
Morrison enjoyed some iconic moments at Upton Park, most notably his
wondergoal during a 3-0 derby win over Tottenham Hotspur. He never quite cut
it at West Ham in terms of consistency, however, and his character has badly
let him down at every club he has been at. Nevertheless, Dave Sullivan (Jr)
messaged the 22-year-old on social media to ask him back to east London.
DA'VE MAURO SULLIVAN
?@DaveSulley @morrisonravel come back please Rav X
The co-owner's son may have been serious or joking but, considering the fact
Jack Sullivan has a column for West Ham's official website, the actions of
the co-owner's children are well publicised and his Morrison request is
certainly an odd one. Queens Park Rangers head of football operations Les
Ferdinand recently admitted the west London side did try to bring Morrison
to Loftus Road this summer, according to GetWestLondon. West Ham, meanwhile,
will no doubt need all the support they can get in terms of squad depth this
season. But would the enigmatic Morrison really ever be the answer for the

BBC.co.uk

No surgery required for Enner Valencia

Enner Valencia has revealed that he will not require surgery on his injured
knee. The West Ham striker was stretchered off the field during last week's
Europa League clash with Astra Giurgiu amidst fears that his season could be
over. However Valencia has confirmed this morning via his Instagram feed
that whilst he is set for a spell on the sidelines, the injury will not
require him to go under the surgeon's knife. West Ham are expected to
confirm how long the Ecuador international will be sidelined for later
today, although he is likely to be back in action by the beginning of
November.

West Ham forward Enner Valencia ruled out for up to 12 weeks

"The outcome is that there is now a very small chance that he will need an
operation and that we instead hope to treat the injury to his fibula using
conservative treatment, which we hope to start in three weeks.
"We will know for sure whether or not Enner will need an operation next
week, but if everything goes to plan we hope that he will be available for
selection again within 10 to 12 weeks. "Enner will spend the next three
weeks in a walking boot and using crutches, after which we will start his
rehabilitation."

West Ham Premier League season preview 2015/16

Guy Demel, Jussi Jaaskelainen, Nene (all released), Stewart Downing
(Middlesbrough)

Office in a bid to reverse a decision to reject the player's application to
be allowed to reside in the UK – but they will be forced to swat it out
until the end of the week to see if the authorities are prepared to do a
u-turn.
A Hammers insider told ClaretandHugh: "The appeal will be heard later this
week. The FA merely give us the result, you don't get personal hearings
anymore."

suggestions that Obiang may not be a part of the plans when asked on Twitter
when he would be ready to take his place in the team.

West Ham United have agreed a loan deal to sign Atletico Madrid forward Raul

Hammers are in the market for two new strikers, following the news of Enner
Valencia's long-term injury, and the 24 year-old Mexican is on the verge of
becoming the club's 9th signing of the summer transfer window. There have
been some suggestions that West Ham will be signing Jimenez permanently, but
those reports are wide of the mark, as Atletico do not want to sell the

West Ham are hoping to complete a deal for Paris Saint-Germain striker Jean

urgent need of a striker after Enner Valencia was ruled out for up to six
months with knee and ankle injuries earlier this week.

Dave Sullivan tweets Ravel Morrison asking him to re-join West Ham

In a strange social media move, David Sullivan's son contacted the former

pleaded with Ravel Morrison on Twitter for a return to the Hammers. Indeed,
Morrison enjoyed some iconic moments at Upton Park, most notably his
wondergoal during a 3-0 derby win over Tottenham Hotspur. He never quite cut
it at West Ham in terms of consistency, however, and his character has badly
let him down at every club he has been at. Nevertheless, Dave Sullivan (Jr)

The co-owner's son may have been serious or joking but, considering the fact

certainly an odd one. Queens Park Rangers head of football operations Les

will no doubt need all the support they can get in terms of squad depth this

Ujah brace helps Bremen to Betway Cup
WHUFC.com
West Ham United slipped to a 2-1 defeat to German side Werder Bremen in the
Betway Cup on Sunday. Despite a Diafra Sakho opener, a cushioned volley from
Dimitri Payet's chipped delivery, an Anthony Ujah first-half brace was
enough to seal the win for the visitors.
West Ham started brightly and had the first chance of note, when Mauro
Zarate was felled on the left edge of the box inside three minutes. Payet
sized it up, but slammed the dead ball into the wall. Then Zarate twisted
this way and that inside the box, but found his every avenue to goal

opener. Payet dinked a low ball into the box from the right and though it
was fractionally behind the No15, his right-foot volley from 12 yards was

a minute. Ujah strode forward and his speculative strike from the best part
of 30 yards slid through the arms and under the body of Adrian. At the
other end, Mark Noble picked out the run of Sakho, who in turn squared for
Payet and the Frenchman's curler forced Felix Wiedwald to save to his left.
But Ujah was not done yet. The Nigerian wriggled free of West Ham's
centre-halves and as the ball bobbled into his path, he dispatched an angled
drive into the far corner. Adrian was well beaten this time.
As the half ticked down, Zarate saw his shot fisted clear by the 'keeper,
before Payet met Jenkinson's right-wing cross, but rather scuffed his
effort. Slaven Bilic made four changes at the interval, with Adrian,
Jenkinson, Reece Oxford and Payet the men to make way. In their stead came
Raphael Spiegel, James Collins, Diego Poyet and debutant Manuel Lanzini.
It was not long before young Spiegel was called upon, diving away to his
left to acrobatically tip Felix Kroos' vicious strike behind. It was a fine
stop and he collected the resulting corner with conviction too. Five further
changes duly followed shortly after the hour. On for Lewis Page, Angelo
Ogbonna, Noble, Cheikhou Kouyate and Zarate came Josh Cullen, Morgan
Amalfitano, Doneil Henry, Modibo Maiga and Kyle Knoyle. The visitors made
three changes of their own, and the game, rather inevitably, lost much of
its rhythm. Argentine Lanzini showed flashes of what he is about, with
quick feet in and around the final third. His free-kick from 25 yards was
well struck, if more or less straight down the throat of Wiedwald. With
little more than ten to play, Sakho was just about able to hold off the
attentions of the impressive Jannik Vestergaard, but his shot, from an acute
angle, flew into the side netting.

Dicks: We will be ready for Arsenal
WHUFC.com
West Ham United coaching assistant Julian Dicks says there are still things
to improve on as the team prepare for the start of the new season but was
full of praise for how Reece Oxford and Lewis Page settled into the starting
line-up. The Hammers lost their final pre-season game in England 2-1 as
Werder Bremen picked up the Betway Cup at the Boleyn Ground on Sunday.
Despite Diafra Sakho firing the home side into the lead, the Bundesliga side
hit back with two goals from Anthony Ujah in the first half. Dicks was
disappointed that the team failed to find a way back into the game, but
feels it was another fine display from the youngsters who started the game
and believes it will give them great confidence heading into the new
campaign. Dicks said: "The young players are getting their chances. Reece is
a very good player and we will use him when we can. I thought Lewis did well
at left back. It was a good test for them. "We have to close people down and
work hard and I'm sure the gaffer will be working on that in training this
week."
Dicks was also pleased to see Sakho get among the goals once again and knows
the importance of keeping the Senegal forward fit heading into the new
season. Dicks added: "Diafra is a very good player and is a big part of the
team. It is important to keep him fit. The club are looking to strengthen
upfront which is what we need."

Sakho - I'll score goals with Payet
WHUFC.com
Diafra Sakho hopes Sunday's goal against Werder Bremen in the Betway Cup
will be the first of many that he scores courtesy of Hammers playmaker
Dimitri Payet. Just as he did on Thursday evening, Payet provided the
ammunition for West Ham's opener, this time dinking in a delicate cross from
the right. There was Sakho, eight yards out, to volley crisply into the
corner and the Senegal forward believes there are plenty more where that
came from. "He [Payet] always creates goals, whether that's for me on Sunday
or Valencia last time," Sakho told West Ham TV. "He's always there to give
those assists. I think he'd prefer to give the passes than even score his
own goals and we're there to take advantage of it. "If you have a player
like him, you've got to make the most of it and try to score as many goals
as possible. I hope that's the first assist and he's going to have plenty
more. "Above all, it was a good cross, and as I had taken two steps forward,
I was telling myself I was just trying to guide the ball towards goal and
that's what I managed to do. "It puts a smile on my face to see it hit the
back of the net. I hope I'm going to hit plenty more that are going to end
up in the net too."
Though Anthony Ujah's first-half double fired the visitors to a 2-1 victory
at the Boleyn Ground, Sakho was still content with another good workout and
felt there were plenty of positives to take into the fast-approaching
Barclays Premier League campaign. He continued: "I think overall we played
well, it was another opportunity to prepare. "It's good to play against
Premier League teams and top-flight German teams who are up there in the
table. That gives us the opportunity to work hard and do some running behind
the ball. "Though we lost on Sunday, I think we did some good things, and we
have to stress those good things for the league season to come."
West Ham's band of new recruits have now had a few weeks to settle into life
in east London and Sakho, who is clearly impressed with what he sees,
expects the influx of players to serve the squad well. "It's the quality
that counts, the quality that we're able to make the most of. It's also good
that there's a little more competition for everyone, it's going to push
everyone to give their 100 per cent to try to play."

West Ham Utd 1-2 Werder Bremen

West Ham's final pre-season friendly at the Boleyn Ground - ever - ended in
defeat this afternoon, thanks to a brace from Bremen's Anthony Ujah.
Werder's number 21 struck twice in the first half to win the game for the
visitors after Diafra Sakho had given the Hammers a 19th minute lead and
with it, hope of retaining the Betway Cup. But a gaffe from the
usually-reliable Adrian allowed the visitors to level with 90 seconds,
before the 24-year-old Nigerian grabbed a second on the half-hour mark to
win the game for the Bundesliga outfit.
In front of a tiny crowd of less than ten thousand - with many dissuaded
from attending by the 250 per cent ticket price rise on Thursday's Europa
League clash with Astra - the Hammers opened strongly, with Dimitri Payet
looking particularly threatening.
Therefore it was no surprise when Slaven Bilic's side opened the scoring
following some good work on the right by the French international, who
twisted and turned before feeding Diafra Sakho; the striker finding the
bottom left corner of Wiedwald's net from the edge of the six yard box.
However the Hammers had barely finished celebrating Sakho's goal when Adrian
uncharacteristically erred at the other end of the field, allowing a hopeful
long-range drive from Ujah to slip under his body and find the back of the
net.
There was worse to come for West Ham on 31 minutes when Ujah added his
second of the day after the Hammers failed to clear their lines - not for
the first time this week.
As the ball arrived back in their penalty area following a poor clearance,
James Tomkins and Angelo Ogbonna were left flat-footed as the Nigerian
turned on the edge of the area before firing across Adrian into the same
corner in which he scored his first goal.
That proved enough to win the game for the visitors, although West Ham could
consider themselves somewhat unfortunate to lose having probably been the
better side overall. The Hammers were also unlucky not to be awarded a
second half spot kick when Sakho appeared to be sent tumbling in the area,
but referee Scott ignored the striker's pleas and waved play on.
West Ham Utd: Adrian (Spiegel 46), Tomkins, Kouyate (Maiga 63), Zarate

West Ham 'doing everything' to sign a striker, says David Gold
Last Updated: 02/08/15 3:15pm

West Ham are "doing everything in our power" to sign a new striker,
co-chairman David Gold has told Sky Sports News HQ. "We've lost (Enner)
Valencia for the beginning of the season. We were already believing that we
required another striker in the squad and we'll be doing everything in our
power to bring in the best players we can," said Gold. Valencia is facing
a long spell on the sidelines after suffering a "significant" leg injury
during West Ham's draw with Astra Giurgiu on Thursday.. Enner Valencia's
injury 'doesn't look great', says David Gold On the extent of Valencia's
injury, Gold said: "We're still waiting to hear definitively, but I have to
say it doesn't look great." West Ham have been linked with Atletico Madrid's
Raul Jimenez, Manchester United's Javier Hernandez and QPR's Charlie Austin.
We were already believing that we required another striker in the squad and
we'll be doing everything in our power to bring in the best players we can
Speaking ahead of West Ham's friendly with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen,
Gold said he expects West Ham to bring in "at least two new players" before
the transfer window closes on September 1. One of those players could be
Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, who Gold hopes to bring back to Upton Park
after a successful loan spell last season. "We enjoyed Alex Song's
contribution last season but these things are ongoing. We're not panicking,
we're not going to do poor deals. We're going to do sensible deals. "By the
time we kick-off, we should be in good shape."

Enner Valencia could be sidelined until Christmas as Charlie Austin leads
West Ham striker shortlist

The Hammers only have two fit strikers at the club and look set to go back
into the transfer market to bulk up their options up front
The Mirror
West Ham striker Enner Valencia could be out until Christmas. Hammers boss
Slaven Bilic will find out today the extent of Valencia's injury - but they
fear a four month lay-off. Ecuador international Valencia, 25, injured his
right knee and ankle during West Ham's Europa League clash with Astra
Giurgiu last Thursday night. Bilic called it a "significant" injury at the
time but it could be even worse than first feared. Valencia will get the
results of a scan today but West Ham are now likely to be forced back into
the market.
He is a key player for West Ham who now only have Diafra Sakho and Modibo
Maiga as fit strikers to choose from. West Ham have made a move for Atletico
Madrid's Mexican striker Raul Jimenez who will have a work permit hearing
ahead of a loan with a view to a permanent move.
The Hammers also have a long standing interest in QPR striker Charlie Austin
who has been a target for Newcastle, Southampton, Leicester and Crystal
Palace. QPR have slapped a £15m price tag on Austin's head and that has
scared off Newcastle while he is also believed to prefer a move in London.
Newcastle have been favourites to get Austin but the price has put them off
while he is also not keen on the North East. But West Ham's latest injury
blow for Valencia may now increase their desperation - and force them to up
the price on Austin.

Sakho predicts big Payet partnership
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on August 2, 2015 in News, Whispers
C AND H
Diafra Sakho reckons he and Dimitri Payet will provide a prolific goal
scoring partnership for the Irons this season.
The Senegal hitman got on the end of a delicately threaded Payet ball into
the box to give the Hammers lead against Werder Bremen before they were
beaten 2-1.
And afterwards 'Sak' told West Ham TV "He [Payet] always creates goals,
whether that's for me on Sunday or Valencia last time.
"He's always there to give those assists. I think he'd prefer to give the
passes than even score his own goals and we're there to take advantage of
it.
"If you have a player like him, you've got to make the most of it and try to
score as many goals as possible. I hope that's the first assist and he's
going to have plenty more.
"Above all, it was a good cross, and as I had taken two steps forward, I was
telling myself I was just trying to guide the ball towards goal and that's
what I managed to do.
Two Anthony Ujah's goals denied the Irons but Sakho said: "I think overall
we played well, it was another opportunity to prepare.
"Though we lost on Sunday, I think we did some good things, and we have to
stress those good things for the league season to come."

£11m + Jarvis bid for Charlie Austin
Posted by Sean Whetstone on August 2, 2015 in News, Whispers
C AND H
This morning, the Sunday Mirror are reporting that West Ham are preparing a
£11m cash plus Matt Jarvis in part exchange to buy Charlie Austin from QPR
to solve their striker crisis.
The inform striker is valued at £15million by QPR and director of football
Les Ferdinand is insisting they will accept nothing less than that.
Matt Jarvis has just one year left on his contract and would fetch close to
£4m according to the Mirror.
A late bid by Queens Park Rangers to sign West Ham winger Matt Jarvis on
loan fell through due to Premier League rules in the January transfer
window. Charlie Austin scored 18 goals in a struggling QPR side last season.

Hammers speak on Jarvis/Austin reports
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on August 2, 2015 in News, Whispers
C AND H
West Ham have scoffed at newspaper stories claiming move for Charlie Austin
could be on with Matt Jarvis thrown in as bait.
The reports emerged again this morning and immediately gained some currency
among supporters but a well placed ClaretandHugh source revealed the story
had no foundation.
Jarvis has seen plenty of pre-season game time as the club have tried to
provide a shop window for the £10 million winger.
The former Wolves man has consistently failed to play up to the price we
forked out when former boss Sam Allardyce made it clear he was among his
major targets.
Since last season the Hammers have been ready to loan or sell the player but
there has been no interest.
Now it seems stories have been manufactured suggest that Rangers would take
the player in a deal which would see Austin arrive for a cash fee of around
£10 million.
Our source scoffed: "An Austin/Jarvis swap is the sort of deal you dream
about but sadly nobody has mentioned it."

Cresswell linked with Man City £12m interest

C AND H
Hammer of the year Aaron Cresswell has gain been linked with a move again to
Manchester City.
Reports claim the club will offer £12 million although any move for the left
back is almost certain to fail after the player signed a deal within the
last couple of months.
It's an old story which says City have scouted the 25-year-old for some time
and could move for to meet their home grown players quota for this coming
season.
However, we have been told, Cresswell is simply not for sale, a senior
source has previously told us "It would take a huge offer to even tempt us
as Ipswich also get a chunk if we ever sold on which really isn't in our
thinking."
Cresswell put pen-to-paper on a new five-year deal with the Hammers less
than a month ago. The 25-year-old left-back has committed himself until
2020 with the option of two further years.

West Ham have told Manchester City – "OR ANYONE ELSE"- to forget any planned
move for Aaron Cresswell.
Rumours and a recycled story arose in the morning press that the Manchester
club were again on the prowl and standing by with a £12 million bid for last
season's Hammer of the Year.
But a quick phone call from ClaretandHugh to a top club contact confirmed
that there was no chance of any bid for the former Ipswich player
succeeding.
We were told emphatically: "He has been given a new deal and loves it here.
Quite apart from that there is absolutely no chance of us selling Aaron
Cresswell to Manchester City or anyone else.

Noble: "It's not been an ideal pre-season"
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on August 2, 2015 in News, Whispers
C AND H
Mark Noble has finally admitted that the excursion into the Europa Cup is a
hindrance to the pre-season Premier League build-up.
He said quite frankly: "It is not ideal preparation for the Arsenal game –
simple as."
He explained that after the trip to Malta from which the squad returned at
5am: "When I got in my front door, it was light. We had to come in for a
warm-down, so the lads had only two hours' sleep.
"Other teams have done it in the past, but you look at Spurs and Everton
last year and they struggled in the league because those journeys take it
out of you.
"You don't want to go and play in Romania three days before the opening day
of the season – and at Arsenal away, of all places.
"The football people, the people who understand football know that it is not
ideal. But we have to deal with it and, hopefully, we can come away
unscathed.
"We have the resources to handle a Premier League season. It is tough at the
moment because we have players suspended and those matches are our
pre-season games. The suspended players have got to play in one of the other
games we have arranged.
"It hasn't been an ideal pre-season, if I am honest."

Irons 1 W Bremen 2: Defeat is no disaster
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on August 2, 2015 in News, Whispers
IRONS 1 WERDER BREMEN 2
C AND H
The Irons suffered a home defeat against Werder Bremen which will have done
their confidence no good whatsoever as they go into the last week of a
pre-season which hasn't been the best.
Victory over FC Astra on Thursday night could give the squad a much needed
lift but with Mark Noble claiming this hasn't been a great way to prepare
for the new PL campaign, there will be some creased brows around.
There was plenty to admire from the new Hammers at Upton Park this afternoon
and its as well to remember that the Bundesliga outfit has gone 11 games
without defeat this summer.
And with Dimitri Payet giving another strong performance, Manuel Lanzini
making an impressive debut in the second half and Reece Oxford looking the
part in a big way, there's reason for optimism.
But to take the lead through Diafra Sakho, lose it within a minute and slip
behind ten minutes later was disappointing.
Anthony Ujah's first goal – a 25 yard effort – slipped between Adrian's legs
but there was no good fortune about the second which he firmly drilled home.
Payet and Sakho looked a very menacing pairing and Mauro Zarate was as
lively as he has been throughout the summer run of matches.
Lanzini's entrance paved the way for him to produce a jinking run past
defenders before being denied and demonstrate the creativity we've been
crying out for.
And he had a chance in the last 15 minutes when he attempted to curl the
ball in from a 22-yard free kick, but his shot lacked the power to beat
Wiedwald.
There's work to be done and a less daunting opener than the north Londoners
but we have little doubt that once the team seriously gels we will be fine.
This wasn't a disaster by any means and what pre-season has shown us is that
we have a decent first team squad and some excellent 'back up ' players.

Striker deal has one hurdle to cross
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on August 2, 2015 in News, Whispers

West Ham are sweating it out on Raul Jimenez getting a work permit ahead of
a year long loan to the club. ClaretandHugh can categorially confirm that
the Atletico Madrid striker is the man set to join the club so long he
meets the work permit qualifications. We reported Spanish newspaper
yesterday as claiming the deal was done and although that as confirmed by
our own insiders at the club this evening, we were told "there is no work
permit guarantee." Boss Slaven Bilic pushed for things to be accelerated
following the news about Valencia's injury, which prompted an agreement
being reached. However we were told this evening: "The player concerned is
indeed Jiminez. He would be an expensive season loan but there is no
guarantee he'll get a work permit. Early reports claimed the agreed to a
loan although Atletico asked him whether he wanted to leave for West Ham
permanently or with the chance of a return to the Spanish club.
Jimenez is said to be keen on returning to Madrid in the long term but wants
to take an opportunity to impress in the Premier League before returning to
his parent club.

Then Zarate twisted
this way and that inside the box, but found his every avenue to goal

from attending by the 250 per cent ticket price rise on Thursday's Europa

West Ham 'doing everything' to sign a striker, says David Gold
Last Updated: 02/08/15 3:15pm
SSN

17:00, 2 AUGUST 2015
BY JOHN CROSS

Posted by Sean Whetstone on August 2, 2015 in News, Whispers

Irons: "Cresswell not for sale to ANYONE!"
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on August 2, 2015 in News, Whispers
C AND H

C AND H
