SCHALKE 04 v WEST HAM UNITED
SCHALKE CUP
VELTINS-ARENA, GELSENKIRCHEN, GERMANY
SATURDAY 2 AUGUST 2014
KICK-OFF: 5.45PM CEST (4.45PM BST)
In brief
West Ham United resume their pre-season campaign this weekend by participating in the Schalke Cup, a four team tournament involving the Hammers, Schalke 04, Malaga and Newcastle United. West Ham will not play the Magpies, but face two continental tests in as many days as they aim for some summer silverware.
Having drawn their opening pre-season matches at Stevenage (2-2) and Ipswich Town (0-0), West Ham suffered two losses during the Football United tour of New Zealand, as they came up short against Wellington Phoenix and Sydney FC.
So, with another week of training at Chadwell Heath under their belts, the Londoners will be hoping for more productive results in western Germany this weekend.
First up is a real test with hosts Schalke lying in wait on Saturday. Die Konigsblauen finished third in the Bundesliga last term to qualify for the UEFA Champions
League
The Schalke Cup will be covered live and exclusively on Quest TV this weekend. Quest is a free to air channel and can be found on: Freeview 37 (+138) Sky 167 (+1 195) and Virgin Media 172 (+1 173).
Who are they?
Founded in 1904, Schalke has long been one of Germany's most popular football teams, even though major successes have been rare since the club's heyday of the 1930s and 1940s.
They have won seven German championships, five DFB-Pokals (German Cups), one DFL-Supercup and one UEFA Cup, while their third-place finish last term saw them qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Since 2001, they have played at the Veltins-Arena, a 61,973 capacity stadium with a retractable roof and retractable pitch, which hosted five 2006 FIFA World Cup matches.
The club holds a long-standing rivalry with Ruhr neighbours Borussia Dortmund and matches between the two are referred to as the Revierderby.
They last won the Bundesliga in 1958, but were German Cup winners three years ago.
Team news
The Hammers will field most of their squad across the two matches of the Schalke Cup, and new loan arrival Carl Jenkinson could be involved after completing his move from Arsenal on Thursday. However, Andy Carroll is absent after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury.
One to watch
Schalke 04
Schalke skipper Benedikt Howedes will be full of confidence having lifted the World Cup with Germany this summer.
The defender, who operates mostly at centre back, but also featured at left back in Brazil, came through the ranks at Schalke and has been a mainstay in recent seasons.
With 166 league appearances under his belt for the club, the 26-year-old has won a DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup during his time at Veltins-Arena, and also has 28 German caps to his name.
West Ham United
Carl Jenkinson could make his Hammers bow at the Schalke Cup this weekend. The 22-year-old full back has made the move to east London on loan from Arsenal, looking to build on the progress he has made in recent years at the Emirates Stadium.
Already capped by England, he has made 28 Premier League appearances in the last two seasons and will hope to add to that tally significantly at the Boleyn Ground.
He scored his first senior goal on the final day of last season, in a 2-0 win for Arsenal over Norwich City.
Tickets
Tickets are still available for both days of the Schalke Cup and can be purchased on each matchday at the Veltins-Arena from "cash box WEST" at €32 Adults and €10 Under-12s. These tickets cover both matches played on that day.
Travel
For supporters in possession of a match ticket, these tickets also act as a VRR-Kombiticket ticket.
This entitles supporters to travel, free of charge on the day in question, to and from the Veltins-Arena using the Regional Transport Networks Rhine-Ruhr (VRR) until closing time of the services.
This applies to all of the VRR transport and commuter trains of Deutsche Bahn in 2nd class (but not ICE, IC, EC and IR).
If travelling by car, directions to the Veltins-Arena can be found here.
Weather
Saturday is set to be a warm day, with temperatures reaching 28C. However, there could be thunderstorms around kick-off time.
Last meeting
West Ham United have never met Schalke 04 previously.

Jenko - 'I can get going straight away'
WHUFC.com
Carl Jenkinson is fit and hopes to feature in the Schalke 04 Cup for West Ham United
01.08.2014
Carl Jenkinson is fit and ready to make his first appearance for West Ham United. The England international right-back, who arrived on loan from Arsenal on Thursday evening, started both of the Gunners' pre-season matches at Borehamwood and New York Red Bulls prior to his loan switch to east London. The 22-year-old trained with his new Hammers team-mates for the first time on Friday morning before the squad flew to Germany for this weekend's Schalke 04 Cup in Gelsenkirchen. Jenkinson would love to make his first appearance in Claret and Blue when they take on the host club at the Veltins-Arena on Saturday and Malaga CF on Sunday. "I'm coming into a new club and first and foremost I want to make a good impression on the Gaffer, the players and everyone at the club," he said. "I've played in two friendlies with Arsenal and I've got a few games to go to play my football before the season starts. "The first thing you want to do when you come into a club is to play and express yourself. We've got a game on Saturday, so hopefully I can get going straight away."
The youngster has spent the past three seasons honing his game as an attacking full-back under the guidance of Arsene Wenger. He is keen to put everything he has learnt there to good use for his new club. Having netted his maiden senior goal for Arsenal against Norwich City in their final Barclays Premier League game of last season, Jenkinson is also eager to find the net again in West Ham colours. "I spoke to the Gaffer about how he sees me playing in this team and that was important for me because I want to be able to express myself and get up and down," he explained. "I've learnt to play how Arsenal play over the last three years and I am a very attacking full-back. I like to get up and down and I know I'm going to have the opportunity to do that here as well. "Fingers crossed I'll get a few more goals this season, too. "Hopefully I can play my game here. It's a great opportunity and I just want to come here, improve the team, express myself and play football. I've missed that at some stages over the last three years where I haven't played as regularly as I'd have liked. "Hopefully it'll be a great year for me and it's one I'm really looking forward to." Looking forward to the opening Barclays Premier League fixture of the season on 16 August and a smile appeared on Jenkinson's face when the opposition was mentioned. A childhood Arsenal fan born in Essex, the defender is acutely aware of the importance of facing Tottenham Hotspur! "It's a fantastic opener. I looked at the fixtures and I thought 'It doesn't get much better than that'.
"Last season, West Ham had a fantastic record against them and I'm here and we have them again in a fantastic first game of the season, so hopefully we can continue that run from where it left off last season."

Hammers offered Guidetti

West Ham are one of a number of clubs to have been offered Manchester City striker John Guidetti on loan. The 22-year-old Swedish international is surplus to requirements at the City of Manchester stadium and currently looking for a new club, having returned from an unsuccessful six-month loan spell at Stoke at the end of last season. Several Premier League clubs have been approached with view to taking Guidetti, who has been with City since he was 16 despite never featuring for the first team.
* West Ham's interest in Samuel Eto'o is unlikely to go any further after the striker demanded £85,000 per-week plus bonuses, according to sources.
The two parties have held preliminary discussions with view to a move but talks are understood to have stalled due to the veteran striker's personal demands. The Cameroon international is available on a free transfer having been released by Chelsea last season.
* Shakhtar Donetsk's Facundo Ferreyra - one of many South Americans desperate to leave east Europe due to the ongoing troubles - has joined Newcastle United on a season-long loan with view to a future £6.5million deal.
West Ham were one of several parties interested in taking the 23-year-old Argentine striker, who is one of six Shakhtar players that have refused to return to the club for pre-season.

Carl Jenkinson has joined West Ham United on loan for the duration of the 2014/15 season, it has been confirmed. The Arsenal and England full back became Sam Allardyce's sixth signing of pre-season when he completed the switch from north to east London on Thursday evening. West Ham United have already committed to circa £23million in transfer fees this summer, with Aaron Cresswell (£4m), Cheikhou Kouyate (£7m) and Enner Valencia (£12m) necessitating sizeable investment (should all clauses and add-ons in their contracts be triggered). In addition Mauro Zarate (free, Velez), Diego Poyet (nominal fee, Brighton) and now Jenkinson (loan, Arsenal) have boosted Sam Allardyce's options ahead of the 2014/15 Premier League campaign, that kicks off little more than two weeks from now.

West Ham back out of Samuel Eto'o deal after striker's £120,000 wage demands
Aug 01, 2014 14:03 By Darren Lewis
The east Londoners are looking to bring two strikers into the club ahead of this month's transfer deadline first choice Andy Carroll sidelined
The Mirror
Samuel Eto'o has priced himself out of a move to West Ham. The 33-year-old former Chelsea striker, now a free agent, had asked for a salary of £120,000-a-week to go to Upton Park - a wage that the Hammers do not regard as value for money. West Ham have now targeted Arsenal's Joel Campbell or another free agent, 30-year-old Portugal international Hugo Almeida. The east Londoners are looking to bring two strikers into the club ahead of this month's transfer deadline - one of them a replacement for the injured Andy Carroll. But there are also concerns over Eto'o's physical condition and his motivation having left Stamford Bridge at the end of last season. There is a feeling at Upton Park that in his current condition Eto'o would not be ready for the start of the new Premier League season. Although Eto'o scored 12 times in 35 appearances last season, all of those goals came came at Stamford Bridge.

New Hammers signing Enner Valencia has missed out on the pre-season friendly tour of Germany. According to Chairman's son Jack Sullivan the Ecuadorian striker only arrives back in England this evening and will instead concentrate on his training as he has not trained for four weeks. Valencia took part in the World Cup in Brazil scoring three goals for Ecuador with his last competitive match on the 25th June. Rumours of a slight ankle injury have not been confirmed but hopefully he will be fully match fit by the 16th August to face Spurs is selected.

Pachuca retain 30% of Enner Valencia

Mexican side Pachuca retain 30% of West Ham signing Enner Valencia in the form of a sell on clause it has been confirmed. Vice-president of Pachuca, Andres Fassi say the club retain 30% of his rights saying " It was a good deal for Enner, for Pachuca and for West Ham. We have faith in what he can achieve and that is why we retained 30 percent of his services."
When the deal was first discussed the Mexican side stated, through their chairman Jesus Martinez they wished to keep hold of some of Valencia's economic rights saying "We are seeking the possibility that is convenient for him and the club and that he is sold for the price that we like. We want to keep a percentage of the player in case he is sold in the future to another big team in Europe."
Valencia is expected to join the first team squad out in Germany this weekend.

Hammers update Ronaldinho

West Ham are unlikely to move for golden oldie Ronaldinho. The 34 year old Brazilian has been heavily linked with the Hammers over recent days despite Jack Sullivan appearing to quash the speculation. Having left Brazilian outfit Atletic Mineiro, various media outlets have suggested the player could be on his way to Upton Park or Queens Park Rangers. Sullivan jnr claimed it would be a big ask for him to make his debut in the Premier league four years into his 30s.
But a well placed source told ClaretandHugh: "We have certainly considered him. He's great on the ball but we also have to look at what he does off it! He makes some sense but it's not one to get too over excited about"

Eto'o Hammers update
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on August 1, 2014 in Whispers
Claret & Hugh
Reports that Samuel Eto'o could be on his way to West Ham United remain a fair way wide of the mark. Eto'o has been seriously considered by the club but there is no way they can fit his massive demands into their pay policy. And there is a serious worry about his precise age given the demands that have been put on the table during talks. The player wants between £85k-£100k and that is far too rich for the Irons blood given all the circumstances. A very well placed Hammers source told Claretandhugh exclusively: "The club have certainly looked at Eto'o but he wants massive money – from £85k upwards. "If he was talking £40k a week and £40k a start the club may be thinking seriously but at the moment there's no sign of a deal."

Former Hammer to join Hamburg

Former HammerValon Behrami is on the verge of joining Hamburg after Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed the Serie A club had granted the player's wish for a transfer. Behrami now 29, is already in Germany, where he was due to undergo a medical. He made 21 appearances for Napoli last season, struggling to force his way into manager's Rafael Benitez's plans.
Rumours persist that Guy Demel could join Behrami at his old club after Carl Jenkinson signed on loan yesterday and is likely to be first choice right back. Reports in Germany earlier this Summer suggested Guy Demel is contemplating a return to his former club Hamburg. Demel flew back to watch Hamburg earlier this year and is reported to have said: " I would be happy to help HSV !" The report suggested he would even accept a reduction in current salary to rejoin Hamburg.
Demel made 199 appearances for Hamburg between 2005-2011 before joining West Ham on a free transfer for an initial two year contract. In 2013 Demel re-signed a new two year contract with would keep him at West Ham until 2015. He has made 65 appearances for the hammers so far.

Peter Crouch is shock new West Ham target as Samuel Eto'o deal collapses
WEST HAM are set to turn to Peter Crouch to solve their striker problems after Samuel Eto'o priced himself out of a move to Upton Park.
Daily Star
Sam Allardyce is on the hunt for a hit-man to replace Andy Carroll up front after the Geordie big-man was ruled out for four months with ankle ligament damage. And they don't come much bigger than Stoke striker Peter Crouch who looks to be surplus to requirements at the Britannia. But Allardyce has only turned his attention to the well-travelled forward after giving up on Eto'o, with the veteran superstar's £100,000-a-week wage demands proving a bridge too far. Crouch has spoken of his desire to stay and fight for his place at Stoke despite the arrivals of front men Mame Diouf and Bojan this summer. And with Potters boss Mark Hughes ready to listen to offers in the region of £1m for the former England international, West Ham looks likely to be the 33-year-old's best chance of regular action this season. "Valencia is set to take his bow in a West Ham shirt in next Saturday's friendly at home to Sampdoria" Another name being circulated is Portuguese striker Hugo Almeida who is available on a free after leaving Turkish side Besiktas. The Hammers are set to hand Carl Jenkinson some playing time in today's friendly away to Schalke following the defender's season-long loan switch from Arsenal. But Hammers fans will have to wait until their team return from the two-match tournament in Germany, which also features Newcastle and Malaga, to see new striker Enner Valencia in action. The Ecuador international has some paperwork loose ends to tie-up although he has already been granted a work permit. Valencia is set to take his bow in a West Ham shirt in next Saturday's friendly at home to Sampdoria.

Shameful scenes from Germany

According to supporters out in Germany there has been fighting between West Ham United and Newcastle United fans this evening in the German city of Dusseldorf. One Newcastle fan on social media said both sets of fans had been drinking happily together all afternoon until drink got the better of a small section of fans. Another eye witness said German riot police were called in to break up the scuffles between the two sets of fans. The West Ham squad flew out today for the Schalke Cup being played against Schalke 04, Malaga and Newcastle United. The news brings shame on both Newcastle United & West Ham United fans most of which just want to follow their team. The trouble mirrors similar scenes last July when West ham fans were filmed throwing bottles in Germany in a pre-season tour before German riot police was called in.

West Ham legend calls on club to back Allardyce or sack him
By talkSPORT (@talkSPORT) | Friday, August 1, 2014
Tony Gale believes West Ham are facing a 'shaky time ahead' of them and that the club needs to either back boss Sam Allardyce or sack him. In a sensational interview with talkSPORT last week, co-chairman David Sullivan revealed they were at odds with the manager, particularly over whether controversial midfielder Ravel Morrison deserved a new contract. The Hammers chief also hinted the board had more of a say in transfers this summer than Allardyce and that they want to see an improvement in playing style this season. And West Ham legend Gale told Sam Matterface on Kick Off: "They look like they are forcing Sam's hand. When you appoint someone you either sack him or you back him. "You don't start saying things in public, saying you're going to do this and you want him to do this or he's not signed this player but we want this player to sign. It's all to the detriment of the cause for me. "We're going into the start of the season with a little bit of a shaky time ahead. If they want Sam they have got to back him. If they don't want him, they've got to sack him – simple as that.

Hammers loan Jenkinson
WHUFC.com
England full-back Carl Jenkinson has joined West Ham United on a season-long
loan from Arsenal
31.07.2014
West Ham United are delighted to announce the arrival of defender Carl
Jenkinson on a season-long loan from Arsenal. The 22-year-old right-back,
who has been capped at senior level by England, opted to join the Hammers
after the Club beat off competition from several of their Barclays Premier
League rivals to secure his services. Jenkinson said he had no hesitation
about moving to the Boleyn Ground as soon as he heard West Ham were
interested in bringing him to east London, thanking Joint-Chairmen David
Sullivan and David Gold and manger Sam Allardyce for the opportunity. It's
brilliant how it has turned out and I just want to thank the Gaffer and Mr
Sullivan and Mr Gold because they put in a big push to get me here," said
the defender. "I'm clearly seen as a big part of things here and hopefully I
can prove my worth here because it is an important year for me. "I was
flattered to have a lot of options but, deep down, if I was being honest
with myself West Ham was always the place I wanted to go to. It's one of
them where I wanted to do the right professional thing and consider all the
options, but in the back of my mind it was always West Ham and I'm just so
glad it's all worked out how I wanted it to in the end. "It will be
brilliant to play here. I've got a lot of friends who are West Ham fans and
I know how good the supporters are here. I've played here a couple of times
so I know exactly what it is all about, so it's going to be fantastic to be
a part of that, to be honest. You get a great atmosphere here and the fans
are great, so I just can't wait to get a West Ham shirt on and get on the
pitch and play. This is an exciting time for me, it really is."
The Harlow-born player becomes West Ham's sixth summer signing, following
the arrival of Argentine forward Mauro Zarate, Ecuador FIFA World Cup
striker Enner Valencia, Senegal defensive midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate,
left-back Aaron Cresswell and midfielder Diego Poyet. With the Olympic
Stadium move to look forward to in 2016, Jenkinson believes the Hammers are
a Club on the up. "To be honest, that was a big swing in this for me, seeing
this Club is going in the right direction," he continued. "Obviously the
stadium plans are only a couple of years away and that's going to improve
this Club massively. Of course it's only a loan deal, but this Club is going
in the right direction. "We've signed six players and they are top players
as well. It's a very exciting time to be a part of this Club. There is an
English group of lads here, which is always great for an English lad, and
the players who have been brought in are top-drawer, so there is every
reason to be optimistic about this season. That was a big reason I signed
here."
Jenkinson began his career at Charlton Athletic, where he enjoyed a
fantastic 2010/11 season before being snapped up by Arsenal at the age of 19
in June 2011. He was given an early chance to impress at the Emirates
Stadium, making his competitive debut in a UEFA Champions League qualifier
against Udinese in August 2011, and has totalled 57 first-team appearances
for the Gunners. Jenkinson has made 37 appearances in the Premier League for
Arsenal, scoring his first goal in senior football in a 2-0 victory over
Norwich City on the final day of last season. He has also played 12 times in
the Champions League, helping the north London side reach the Round of 16 in
each of the last two campaigns. Internationally, Jenkinson played at
age-group level both for England and Finland - the country of his mother's
birth. However, in 2012 he decided to commit his international future for
England and made his debut for Roy Hodgson's side in a friendly defeat to
Sweden in Stockholm that November. He has since been capped five times by
England U21s, having previously turned out three times for Finaland at the
same level in 2011. Jenkinson will join up with his new team-mates on Friday
before travelling with the squad to the Schalke 04 Cup tournament in Germany
this weekend.

Bywater happy with productive summer
WHUFC.com
Dev Squad midfielder Kieran Bywater is hoping for another positive
performance against Newport
31.07.2014
West Ham United's Development Squad have enjoyed a successful pre-season
campaign to date and will aim for a third win in a row when they take on
Newport County at Little Heath on Saturday. Kieran Bywater excelled in
midfield as Nick Haycock's side defeated Braintree Town in midweek and he is
hoping for more of the same when they take on League Two Newport. "It's been
a productive pre-season for us so far," he said. "We've kept a winning
mentality with the performances we've put in, and we're getting a style of
play that we want for the season ahead. "It's not about results at this time
of year, but of course the wins help with our confidence. We're getting our
fitness there too, so it's good."
The U21s' pre-season schedule has taken in tests against senior non-league
opposition as well as matches against continental sides, and Bywater thinks
the mix can only be of help. He continued: "Playing a range of different
sides is what we need at this stage of our development. Playing Braintree on
Tuesday, they were a physical, senior side, and we've mixed it up against
teams like Espanyol. That will help us going into the European games we've
got this season as well.
"We need to be able to cope with physical players as part of our game,
getting on the second balls and being physical ourselves. We gain a lot from
playing against men in these games."
"We're looking forward to the competitive games starting and the season
getting underway. First and foremost, I have to be pushing to get in the
Under-21s side and perform at that level - that's my first aim for this
season. "I scored a lot of goals playing further forward for the U18s last
year and I think I've got that in my game to score from midfield, but I've
been playing a slightly deeper role this year and learning different kinds
of roles within the midfield. "I've been enjoying it and getting my fitness
back for the season."

A 2-1 victory over Mexico helps Jamie Harney's Northern Ireland U19 move
closer to Dale Farm Milk Cup title
31.07.2014
Jamie Harney's Northern Ireland U19 side are in pole position to claim the
Dale Farm Milk Cup title after making it two wins from two on Wednesday.
Following a 2-0 victory over China earlier in the week, the host nation
recovered from a goal down to defeat Mexico 2-1. Northern Ireland's goals
came in the final eight minutes, with Mikhail Kennedy and Sean Mullen
netting to overturn the advantage given to Mexico by Victor Guzman. The
match also had its fair share of controversy, with three Mexicans and a
Northern Irish player seeing red for violent conduct during the second half.
The first altercation saw Raul Monala Gudino, Carlos Arreola and Robbie
McDaid given their marching orders, with Mexico's Kevin Gutierrez joining
them for an early bath in the closing stages.
Now, Northern Ireland merely need to avoid defeat against Canada in their
final fixture on Friday to lift the title.

West Ham sign Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson on loan
BBC.co.uk
West Ham have signed Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old had been linked with several Premier League clubs, but opted
for the Hammers. "I'm clearly seen as a big part of things here and
hopefully I can prove my worth because it is an important year for me,"
Jenkinson said.
The right-back has slipped down the pecking order at Arsenal following the
recent signings of full-backs Mathieu Debuchy, 29, and Calum Chambers, 19.
France international Debuchy joined from Newcastle for an undisclosed fee in
July and youngster Chambers moved from Southampton, for £16m, earlier this
week. Jenkinson, who has won one England cap, played 22 games in all
competitions for the Gunners last season. He said: "I was flattered to have
a lot of options but, deep down, if I was being honest with myself West Ham
was always the place I wanted to go to." The former Charlton Athletic player
becomes West Ham's sixth new player, following the signing of Ecuador
striker Enner Valencia from Pachuca, midfielder Diego Poyet from Charlton,
striker Mauro Zarate from Velez Sarsfield, Anderlecht's Senegal
international midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate and Ipswich full-back Aaron

West Ham midfielder Ravel Morrison remanded in custody for common assault

West Ham midfielder Ravel Morrison has been remanded in custody at
Manchester Magistrates' Court until August 7 after being charged with two
counts of common assault. Morrison has been charged with section 47 assault
and two counts of common assault after police were called to an address in
Salford in the early hours of Sunday morning - and District Judge James
Prowse refused a bail application made by his solicitor Ros Emsley-Smith.
The 21-year-old Morrison, who spoke only to confirm his name and age, is
accused of attacking his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend Reah Mansoor outside a
bar in Manchester city centre and later assaulting the same woman and her
39-year-old mother Parveen Mansoor in Salford. District Judge Prowse told
him: "You are remanded in custody to appear back before this court by
video-link from prison one week from today on August 7."
An earlier police statement confirmed: "At about 3.20am on Sunday, July 27
2014, police were called to an address on Alexandra Road, Peel Green,
Salford, following reports a 19-year-old woman and a 39-year-old woman had
been assaulted. "Officers attended and established the young woman had also
been assaulted outside a bar in Manchester city centre earlier that evening
and a 21-year-old man was subsequently arrested at a later date. "Ravel
Morrison, of Urmston, is charged with two common assaults. He is due before
Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on July 31, 2014."
The midfielder started his career at Manchester United in 2009 but left to
join West Ham in the January 2012 transfer window before loan spells with
Birmingham and QPR. An England U21 international Sir Alex Ferguson once
hailed as the most talented player he had seen, Morrison impressed for West

West Ham have signed defender Carl Jenkinson from Arsenal on a season-long
loan. Jenkinson's first-team chances at Arsenal were limited following the
recent arrivals of Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers and boss Arsene Wenger
is happy for him to go out on loan to get regular first-team football.
There have been a number of clubs interested in the England international
with Hull City, Swansea City and Sunderland all thought to have enquired
about the 22-year-old, but Hammers boss Sam Allardyce has won the race to
sign him. "You get a great atmosphere here and the fans are great, so I just
can't wait to get a West Ham shirt on and get on the pitch and play. This is
an exciting time for me, it really is." Jenkinson told West Ham's official
website: "I'm clearly seen as a big part of things here and hopefully I can
prove my worth here because it is an important year for me. "I was flattered
to have a lot of options but, deep down, if I was being honest with myself
West Ham was always the place I wanted to go to. "It's one of them where I
wanted to do the right professional thing and consider all the options, but
in the back of my mind it was always West Ham and I'm just so glad it's all
worked out how I wanted it to in the end. "It will be brilliant to play
here. I've got a lot of friends who are West Ham fans and I know how good
the supporters are here. "I've played here a couple of times so I know
exactly what it is all about, so it's going to be fantastic to be a part of
that, to be honest. You get a great atmosphere here and the fans are great,
so I just can't wait to get a West Ham shirt on and get on the pitch and
play. This is an exciting time for me, it really is. "There is an English
group of lads here, which is always great for an English lad, and the
players who have been brought in are top-drawer, so there is every reason to
be optimistic about this season. That was a big reason I signed here."

"I was

a part of that, to be honest.
There is an

the players who have been brought in are top-drawer, so there is every
reason to be optimistic about this season.

Cresswell.

Ravel Morrison denied bail after being accused of punching his ex-girlfriend
and her mother
Jul 31, 2014 13:42 By Rob Burnett
The former United starlet was arrested on Wednesday after incident in
Manchester city centre
The Mirror
Ravel Morrison has been denied bail after he was accused of punching and
slapping his ex-girlfriend and her mother. The Premier League star, 21,
appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Thursday, and has been remanded
in custody until August 7 Morrison, who currently plays for West Ham, was
charged with two counts of common assault. He closed his eyes and puffed his
cheeks out after being refused bail. The former Manchester United player,
who spoke only to confirm his name and age, is alleged to have assaulted
ex-girlfriend Reah Mansoor, 19, and her mother Parveen Mansoor, 39, in the
early hours of Sunday morning. He was arrested on Wednesday. District Judge
James Prowse refused a bail application made by Morrison's solicitor Ros
Emsley-Smith.
Morrison did not enter a plea.
A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed earlier on Thursday:
"At about 3.20am on Sunday 27 July 2014, police were called to an address on
Alexandra Road, Peel Green, Salford, following reports a 19-year-old woman
and a 39-year-old woman had been assaulted. "Officers attended and
established the young woman had also been assaulted outside a bar in
Manchester city centre earlier that evening and a 21-year-old man was
subsequently arrested at a later date. "Ravel Morrison, of Urmston, is
charged with two common assaults. "He is due before Manchester and Salford
Magistrates' Court on 31 July 2014."
Despite being one of the most highly rated youngsters of his generation,
Morrison failed to make a Premier League appearance for Manchester United,
and he was eventually sold to West Ham for a fee of £650,000 in January
2012. The deal also included a clause that saw United earn £25,000 for every
first team appearance he made for the Hammers. At the time, West Ham boss
Sam Allardyce revealed Sir Alex Ferguson had told him of Morrison: "A
brilliant footballer. Brilliant ability. Top-class ability. Needs to get
away from Manchester and start a new life."
Morrison has struggled to settle and has loan spells at Birmingham City and
at QPR. The midfielder's Hammers future looked bleak only a week ago when
indications suggested he'd played his last game in East London. A number of
factors, including a delay of groin surgery and an aversion to long-haul
flights, had seemed to put an end to Morrison's time at Upton Park. But on
Wednesday boss Allardyce moved to quash such speculation insisting the
England Under-21 international was part of his plans, should he put the time
in. "We thought we'd brought Ravel to the forefront of his abilities this
time last season," he told talkSPORT. "He had a fantastic pre-season and
started the season very well. That drifted away a bit and he ended up at
QPR, helping them get promoted.
"If he gets back to knuckling down, and getting used to the discipline side
of the game, then his talents are outstanding."
Allardyce's change of heart falls in line with recent comments from
co-chairman David Sullivan who sees Morrison as a key part of the club's
future. "Sam has said Ravel is not part of his plans but we do - as a board
- see him as part of our plans," he said last week. "I think he (Allardyce)
said in a press conference, if I read it correctly, he's not part of his
plans for this season. I think he said that in New Zealand but we don't
agree with that. We would like to sit down and give him a longer contract.
"We do see him as part of the long-term future of the club but we have to
agree it with the manager because there's no point signing a player he's not
going to play."
West Ham have so far declined to comment on his arrest and charge.

hailed as the most talented player he had seen, Morrison impressed for West
Ham in the early part of last season and was tipped to make Roy Hodgson's
World Cup squad before he was shipped out to QPR in February. Hammers
manager Sam Allardyce had opened the door for Morrison to return to the
first team fold in pre-season before news of his latest controversy broke.

The Big Interview - Big Sam
WHUFC.com
West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce gave an insightful interview to
talkSPORT radio on Wednesday
30.07.2014
Manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that West Ham United's already busy
summer in the transfer market is not over. Speaking to Alan Brazil's Sports
Breakfast on talkSPORT radio on Wednesday morning, Big Sam also discussed
his hopes of securing a top-ten Barclays Premier League finish and that Andy
Carroll will make a successful return from ankle surgery. The manager also
spoke of his hope that Ravel Morrison will replicate the form he showed at
the start of last season and looked forward to the season opener at home to
Tottenham Hotspur on 16 August.
Sam, are you happy with the transfer business the Club has done so far?
SA: "Yes, I think we've gone out and tried to improve the strength and depth
of the squad. We've tried to go a little younger, which I think is important
today because they can be with the club for a time. We've been interested in
these last couple of days in signing Carl Jenkinson on loan from Arsenal and
I hope it's going to be completed in the next 24 hours, so we hope that's
going to be OK. "We have brought in young Cheikhou Kouyate from Anderlecht
and Aaron Cresswell from Ipswich who was the PFA left-back of the season for
the Championship, so he's a good young prospect. We've also brought in Mauro
Zarate from Argentina who scored 18 goals last year, so we have different
dynamics in the front line. "We've got Gus Poyet's young son Diego from
Charlton and we hope there is a little bit more to go. I talked to the
Chairman the other day and there are one or two other players we're looking
at, so hopefully that'll give us the firepower, because we're looking for
that and a few more goals."
So, yourself and the Board are working closely to bring in new players?
SA: "Absolutely. All the speculation was put to bed. It has arisen
occasionally here and there again, but here I am grafting away with the
owners trying to bring the best players we possibly can to make this squad
stronger and better for next season."
Is a top-half Barclays Premier League finish your ambition this season?
SA: "Yes, we'll try and hit the top ten or better if we can, like we did in
year one. Last year, it became a bit of a burden due to the fact we did so
well in year one. Everyone expected us to do better. Injuries and a bit of
second year syndrome, and we all know what that's like, meant 13th wasn't a
bad finish on the basis of some of the things we had to suffer last season.
"It's all down to getting a few more goals and a resilient defence again and
we'll be OK next season."
Realistically, to break into that top seven is almost impossible with the
big clubs, so what represents progress this season?
SA: "You've got to remember that it's only season three for us. The
expectations today sometimes run away with everybody. It's year three back
in the Premier League. We're moving forward, in the right direction. We have
to spend our money wisely today, that's the most important thing - to grow
sustainably by getting a little better each year. "Each time you grow in the
Premier League to get a little better you can finish that little bit higher.
Eventually you do try to hit the top half of the Premier League but that
today all depends on just how much money everybody else is spending. Huge
fees are being banded about on the top players today, it's pretty
frightening and to compete with that is sometimes difficult."
You've suffered a blow with Andy Carroll undergoing ankle surgery and being
ruled out for the start of the season. What can you tell us about his
situation?
SA: "Obviously I'm no specialist in this area, but from what the specialist
has said, it's tightening up of the ankle of the ligaments around the joint,
which is the mainstay of why Andy needed this operation doing. "It's made
the ankle stable again because it was unstable by the fact that the
ligaments around the joint were a little too lax. They've been tightened up
to give them a little more stability and we hope that'll be the end of it.
"Everybody talks about how disappointing it is for me and everybody else at
West Ham, but no more so than for Andy himself. It's not nice for him."
A lot has been written about Ravel Morrison. What are your thoughts about
his position within the Club?
SA: "We thought we'd brought Ravel to the forefront of his abilities this
time last year. He had a fantastic pre-season and he started the season
exceptionally well. I think that drifted away somewhat and he ended up with
QPR on loan and ended up helping get them promoted. "He had a little injury,
where's he's had a hernia operation, which is obviously going to help him.
If he gets back to knuckling down, getting him used to the disciplined side
of the game, then his talents are absolutely outstanding and that's all
Ravel has to do - make sure he knuckles down to the discipline side of the
game and training and then expressing the abilities he has on the football
field, as we'd all love to see them. "It's about having no regrets at the
end of it. When your football career finally comes to an end we all look
back on our football careers, when we were in our early 20s and thinking
there's a long way to go, you click your fingers and it's nearly all over."
You've got a great first game at home to Tottenham Hotspur on 16 August,
Sam. You went to White Hart Lane and beat them last season, so that's a real
mouth-watering start?
SA: "It is. It's going to be a great start to the season for us all,
particularly the West Ham fans. They'll be expecting me to repeat what we
did last season!"

Haycock pleased with pre-season form
WHUFC.com
Nick Haycock wants his Development Squad to take their fine summer form into
the season
30.07.2014
Development Squad coach Nick Haycock is determined to take his team's fine
pre-season form into the campaign proper. The Hammers U21s have gone
unbeaten throughout the summer to date, and Tuesday's 2-0 win at Braintree
Town represented a third clean sheet in four games. Haycock is thrilled with
the progress the team are making, but warned that the attitude and
application must be maintained. "I'm delighted with the way things are
going," he said. "But obviously it will count for nothing if we don't take
that form into the start of the season. "There are two or three competitive
games left in the pre-season - we have a tough game against Newport County
at the weekend - but I'm delighted with the way the boys have applied
themselves so far." The Hammers have blooded several younger players in
their friendly matches and Haycock has been impressed with their showings
against senior opposition. He continued: "Do we want to win leagues, do we
want to win trophies? Yes it's important we put that into them, but it will
never be at the expense of putting younger players in there when we know
they can take that challenge. "They'll make mistakes, but that is part of
their learning, and I'm delighted with the young players out there. I
wouldn't want to single anyone out because I thought everyone had a go. "I
think in the second half when the tempo went a little bit, we started to get
more control and we started to see more of the type of the football we
wanted to play. "The first 20 minutes was difficult, Alan Devonshire has
them well organised, they were at the top end of the Conference last year
and very unlucky not to go up, and he runs that club on a shoestring budget
compared to most others in that league. "Being a West Ham person we're
delighted to give him a game and it's always a pleasure to come over here
and play against his teams because they're competitive workouts."
Whilst not wanting to single individuals out, striker Elliot Lee continues
to catch the eye, and his double at Braintree took his pre-season tally to
six. Haycock's challenge to the youngster is to keep his form going. He
added: "We keep saying what they have to do is keep knocking on the
manager's door, and all they can do is put performances in. "Elliot is a
pleasure to work with on the training field, I've given him the captaincy
over the pre-season with Dan Potts and Leo Chambers away with the first
team. "Every age level he's played at he's scored goals, and his attitude to
want to get better and his drive is there for all to see. His second goal in
particular was fantastic."

Former Barcelona forward Ronaldinho to name new club

Ronaldinho is set to announce he has joined a new club after parting company
with Atletico Mineiro. Ronaldinho has enjoyed a good two-year spell with the
Brazilian outfit, which included winning the Copa Libertadores, after
joining in 2012 following his departure from Flamengo. The 34-year-old
Brazilian legend, who has been linked with a move to England, with Stoke,
West Ham and QPR all mentioned as possible suitors, is set to reveal his
next destination on Wednesday, with Argentine giants Boca Juniors reported
favourites to land him. His agent and brother, Roberto de Assis, said: "He
will play until he's 42. He will reveal his future destination on
Wednesday." Atletico Mineiro's boss Levir Culpi admitted he was sad to see
Ronaldinho go, telling SporTV: "I can't call on Ronaldinho anymore. His
cycle with us has ended. "It's unfortunate because he's an idol to all of
us. Everyone loves his football, the way he plays and he's a very
charismatic person. "But that's the way it goes. He's leaving and we must
move on without him." During a glittering career which saw him win 97 caps
for Brazil, Ronaldinho enjoyed a spell with Gremio before moving to Europe
and spending time with Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and AC Milan before
moving back to Brazil with Flamengo in 2011.

West Ham closing on loan deal for Arsenal's Carl Jenkinson
Last Updated: 30/07/14 7:39pm

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce is hoping to wrap up a loan deal for
Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson 'in the next 24 hours'. Sky Sports revealed
on Tuesday that the 22-year-old full-back was closing on a move to Upton
Park. With Arsenal having drafted in Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers to
cover the loss of Bacary Sagna to Manchester City at the end of his
contract, Jenkinson remains some way down the Emirates Stadium pecking
order. "We've tried to go a little younger, which I think is important today
because they can be with the club for a long time." A loan switch would
allow him to get useful minutes under his belt, and there has been no
shortage of Premier League interest. West Ham have led the chase from the
off, though, and Allardyce believes they are poised to complete another deal
that shows the club are heading in an exciting new direction. He told
talkSPORT: "We've been interested in these last couple of days in signing
Carl Jenkinson on loan from Arsenal and I hope it's going to be completed in
the next 24 hours, so we hope that's going to be okay. "I think we've gone
out and tried to improve the strength and depth of the squad. "We've tried
to go a little younger, which I think is important today because they can be
with the club for a long time. "We have brought in young Cheikhou Kouyate

Stuttgart's Germany international centre-back Antonio Rudiger insists he is
not thinking about the interest being shown in him from England. Both West
Ham and Newcastle have shown an interest, whilst Portuguese giants Porto are
also said to be keen. The Hammers even had a bid rejected earlier in the
summer, but now they are reported to be reviving an interest - but the
21-year-old remains calm. "It's fine to find out other clubs are interested
in me. But my full focus is on Stuttgart," he told Sport-BILD weekly. "I am
under contract until June 2017 with the club and I do not force a move at
this point in time. Of course, you never know in football. Still I am just
focussed on my job and the new season. "I have the best conditions to work

Sam Allardyce offers hope to Ravel Morrison at West Ham
Last Updated: 30/07/14 12:34pm
SSN
Sam Allardyce may well have been persuaded to do a U-turn over his future
plans for midfielder Ravel Morrison. The West Ham manager recently said that
Morrison was likely to be a bit-part performer for the club this season only
for co-chairman David Sullivan to publicly disagree with him a few days
later. Sullivan said last week: "Sam has said Ravel is not part of his plans
but we – as a board – see him as part of our plans. "He (Allardyce) said in

After a strong start to his Hammers career, Morrison's form tailed off
following a groin injury and he ended last season on loan at QPR. But
speaking on Wednesday, Allardyce explained that the former Manchester United
player still has a future in east London, saying: "We thought we'd brought
Ravel to the forefront of his abilities this time last season. "He had a
fantastic pre-season and started the season very well. That drifted away a

West Ham in crisis? Worrying signs at Upton Park – and the season hasn't
even begun
Jul 30, 2014 11:01
OPINION BY STEVESTAMMERS
Steve Stammers casts his eye over developments in east London, where Sam
Allardyce is engaged in a war of attrition with the Irons board
The Mirror
When Sam Allardyce settles into his seat in the manager's seat at the West
Ham training ground, he may want to put a ring round the date of September
27. That could well be his D-day. The Irons are scheduled to play Manchester
United that afternoon, the last of an opening six fixtures that are exacting
to say the least. Tottenham are at home first up followed by Crystal Palace
away. Southampton are next at Upton Park followed by a tricky away game at
Hull and then Liverpool at home and Manchester United away. So that is three
of last season's top seven as well as an outfit in Palace who were arguably
the form team of the last two months of last season as they escaped
relegation. And that cluster of matches come after three extraordinary
months at Upton Park when Allardyce's position has been somewhat
under-mined. In fact, under-mined big time. With Allardyce, you know what
you are getting. He is organised, statistic-obsessed and plays percentages.
And you have to admit he has been highly-successful with that strategy. If
you are looking for Brazil-1970, look elsewhere. If survival is your target,
Allardyce is your man. His track record proves that. And survive West Ham
did last season. In the end with a deal of comfort.
Yet the club hierarchy paid heed to a vociferous element among the West Ham
fans who were less than impressed with a lack of fluency and adventure in
the team. That dreadful cliche "the West Ham way" was given plenty of
air-time. The board listened and after a summit meeting with Allardyce,
declared that more expansive football will be on the agenda for this season.
Allardyce's power was diluted in an instant. Then came the Ravel Morrison
issue. Farmed out on loan by Allardyce to Queens Park Rangers in the second
half of last season, he is clearly not in favour. Not by the manager, maybe
- but co-chairman David Sullivan went public with his desire to not only
keep the hugely-gifted but occasionally wayward Morrison. He wants to offer
the England Under-21 a new contract.
Harmony is not a word that springs to mind among the management strata.
Allardyce is driven by clean sheets. West Ham fans, traditionally, prefer to
score one more than the opposition. To Allardyce, staying in the Premier
League was his brief and he achieved that. To many West Ham fans, a cup run
is the one chance of glory and that was sacrificed inside between January 5
and January 8 last season with a 5-0 FA Cup defeat at Nottingham Forest and
a 6-0 Capital One Cup semi-final defeat at Manchester City.
Clean sheets aplenty, Premier League survival and three wins over Tottenham
do not a season make. And in the build-up to this season's campaign, the
vibes are not good. When those in power at a club and the manager are not at
one, it is often a recipe for uncertainty that spreads from the boardroom to
the dressing room and frequently to the pitch.
Come September 27, around 5pm, we will know a lot more.

There are rumours that Southampton are weighing up a bid for West Ham centre

Liverpool for £20m. Reid has turned down a £60,000 per week five year
contract on offer from West Ham with just a year remaining on his existing

change as the Saints look to rebuild their squad from the ground up.

The Allardyce interview – big opportunity lost
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895 on July 30, 2014 in Whispers
Claret & Hugh
There's an old saying in journalism which still rings true: "You are only as
good as the questions you ask!" That came back to me quite strongly as I
listened to Alan Brazil apparently interviewing Sam Allardyce this morning.
There were so many questions that could have been asked such as:
O When did you claim that Ravel Morrison was not part of your plans as
suggested by David Sullivan on here?
O What went wrong in New Zealand – surely an EPL team should never be beaten
by minnows such as Phoenix and FC Sydney?
O The fans seem to be on your back again – can you win them over as the
owners wish
O and are we going to see a change in style as demanded by the board?
Instead what we got under the gentlest prodding in the world
O Sam telling us that New Zealand was a trip too far;
O that he would do everything he could to improve our league position,
O that Ravel would play (perhaps) if his discipline was right which has
already more or less been on the official site anyway
O that he didn't worry quite as much about things as he spent longer in the
game because he had learned how to overcome problems.
O oh, and that we might sign Carl Jenkinson, in the next 24 hours which was
pretty well known anyway.
Sam sounded nice and calm and composed throughout but this was an
opportunity lost. Talk Sport arrived on air with an agenda to ask the tough
questions – the ones that mattered. There was a brilliant opportunity to get
to the bottom of a whole load of issues this morning – every one of them was
missed. As a PR exercise Sam's few minutes on air could be judged a success
no doubt – as an opportunity to really tell the fans what was going on and
what they could expect it was an opportunity lost!

top-tier match this season. The heady days of illuminating arenas such as
the Nou Camp and San Siro with his sorcery in possession are a thing of the
past for the 34-year-old, but if you believe everything the gossip peddlers
want you to, he could be captivating the entertainment-starved audiences at
Stoke, West Ham and QPR next season. According to Ronaldinho's brother
Roberto de Assis, who handily doubles up as a football agent, his next
wage-payer will be revealed on Wednesday.
Should the daunting project of glamorising one of this hugely unglamorous
trio appeal to his ego, here's what he could bring to the clubs in question:
Stoke
Mark Hughes is doing his level best to paper over the pragmatic ethos
instilled in the Potters from the previous regime with as much pizzazz as
possible.
Having already recruited former Spanish wonder boy Bojan, a shirt-selling
signing such as Ronaldinho would undoubtedly appeal. Both are familiar with
the Barcelona way of playing and their dribbling prowess combined with
incisive passing acumen is a recipe for the creation of ample chances that
haven't come from crosses…if they can only get Peter Crouch on the same
wavelength.
West Ham
Who better embodies the 'West Ham way' (a mythological style of football
that no one is certain exists other than Irons' fans, who are adamant that
it does and is beautiful) than arguably the finest player of his generation?
With co-owners David Gold and Sullivan apparently taking recruitment matters
into their own hands in order to rediscover this long-lost, but not
forgotten approach, it won't matter if he fits in or not, they'll still pay
his wages.
QPR
Harry Redknapp has a penchant for the luxury player with Luka Modric, Joe
Cole and Niko Kranjcar among those to take prominent places in his teams of
the past. He's thought to be plotting a way to squeeze Adel Taarabt into his
side for next season (most likely from one of the flanks) but Little Ronald
is a far superior alternative.

SSN

Stuttgart's Antonio Rudiger not thinking about interest

"I have the best conditions to work
at VfB Stuttgart, this will help me progress further. One day I want to come
out for a big club in the Champions League. Anyway, this is still a long way

"He (Allardyce) said in
a press conference, if I read it correctly, he's not part of his plans for
this season but we (the board) don't agree with that. "We would like to sit
down and give him a longer contract. We do see him as part of the long-term
future of the club but we have to agree it with the manager because there's
no point signing a player he's not going to play."
That drifted away a
bit and he ended up at QPR, helping them get promoted. "If he gets back to
knuckling down, and getting used to the discipline side of the game, then
his talents are outstanding."

Sam Allardyce confirms Ravel Morrison U-turn as midfielder offered West Ham
lifeline
Jul 30, 2014 17:01 By Ben Burrows
All indications were that the fiery former Manchester United man would be
shown the door but the Hammers boss has pledged to give him another chance
The Mirror
Sam Allardyce has handed Ravel Morrison a West Ham lifeline. The
midfielder's Hammers future looked bleak only a week ago when indications
suggested he'd played his last game in East London. A number of factors,
including a delay of groin surgery and an aversion to long-haul flights, had
seemed to put an end to Morrison's time at Upton Park. But boss Allardyce
has now moved to quash such speculation insisting the England Under-21
international is part of his plans, should he put the time in. "We thought
we'd brought Ravel to the forefront of his abilities this time last season,"
he told talkSPORT. "He had a fantastic pre-season and started the season
very well. That drifted away a bit and he ended up at QPR, helping them get
promoted. "If he gets back to knuckling down, and getting used to the
discipline side of the game, then his talents are outstanding."
Allardyce's change of heart falls in line with recent comments from
co-chairman David Sullivan who sees Morrison as a key part of the club's
future.
"Sam has said Ravel is not part of his plans but we do - as a board - see
him as part of our plans," he said last week. "I think he (Allardyce) said
in a press conference, if I read it correctly, he's not part of his plans
for this season. I think he said that in New Zealand but we don't agree with
that. We would like to sit down and give him a longer contract. "We do see
him as part of the long-term future of the club but we have to agree it with
the manager because there's no point signing a player he's not going to
play."

Instead what we got under the gentlest prodding in the world
O Sam telling us that New Zealand was a trip too far;

Stoke, West Ham and QPR in the running to snare legendary free agent

Valencia granted work permit
WHUFC.com
Enner Valencia has completed his transfer to West Ham United after being granted a work permit
29.07.2014
West Ham United are delighted to announce that Enner Valencia has been granted a work permit following a hearing at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday. Valencia agreed to join the Hammers from Mexican side Pachuca earlier this month after a stellar performance in the FIFA World Cup, which saw him net three goals in as many games for Ecuador. West Ham fought off competition from a host of Europe's leading clubs to secure the services of the 25-year-old and he will now link up with Sam Allardyce's squad ahead of the new Barclays Premier League campaign. See Valencia and the new signings against Sampdoria in the Marathonbet Cup "I really appreciate the welcome I've been given and I'm excited to be here," he told West Ham TV. "I've already watched and read a lot about the club to learn about it - I know the fans are really passionate and I'm really glad to have signed. "The World Cup was a good tournament for me personally, I scored three times and for my first World Cup it was a good experience, but I hope my next one is better for me and the team. "Of course, the World Cup gives me confidence to come to Europe and I want to take and advance with this opportunity that West Ham have given to me."
Valencia notched an impressive 18 goals in 23 appearances for Mexican outfit Pachuca after moving from Ecuadorian side Emelec in January, and now he feels ready to take his skills to the biggest stage of all in England. He continued: "The Premier League is the top league and I have followed it in Mexico. Obviously my countryman Antonio Valencia has played here for a long time so it's a big step for me to come here from Mexico and I hope I can be as successful as Antonio. "It's exciting to be here in England and London. I want to repay the club in my performances for what they are investing in me and I'm really looking forward to it."
The striker already has experience of succeeding against Premier League defenders, having scored against England in a warm-up game for this summer's World Cup, and he has his eyes on adding to that tally as quickly as possible. He added: "For me, scoring against England, one of the big teams in the world, before the World Cup was important for me. Hopefully I can score again against those defenders! "I scored many goals as a striker. I'm fast, and I try to continue like that because I know the goals brought me to West Ham."

Elliot Lee's third double of pre-season gave the Development Squad a 2-0 victory at Skrill Premier side Braintree Town on Tuesday night. The livewire striker continued his fine summer form to notch either side of the break and maintain the young Hammers' unbeaten pre-season. West Ham had to withstand a decent start from Braintree, who only just missed out on a play-off place in non-league football's top tier last season, before stamping their authority on the contest.
Following their involvement in the Ruhr Cup, it was a return to action closer to home as Nick Haycock's side made the journey to Essex to take on Braintree.
The hosts were first out of the blocks, with left-winger Dan Sparkes' dead ball delivery causing a few problems early on. With 15 minutes on the clock, his corner was met by a trialist, who made a good run round the back, but he could not convert on the stretch, Then, six minutes later, a corner from the same right flank found Mitch Brundle, although once again he failed to trouble Tim Brown in the Hammers goal. As the half hour mark came and went, the Hammers began to impose themselves on the contest more, and Lee might have done better than fire over when Seb Lletget presented him with a shooting opportunity on 37 minutes. As it turned out, the No9 was merely setting his radar, as four minutes later Kieran Sadlier laid a ball on a plate for him to tuck home from close range and notch his fifth goal of pre-season.
The Hammers made six changes at the break and one of the players introduced, Manny Onariase, had an early opportunity to add to the lead when he made his way forward for a set play and headed wide of the mark. The U21s took a giant step towards their fourth win of pre-season with an hour on the clock and it was that man Lee on target again. This time Grady Diangana was the provider, feeding a pass into the striker, who took it into his stride to beat the last man and slot neatly past home keeper Nick Hamann. Seven minutes later Sadlier tried his luck as the Hammers searched for a third, but his shot after cutting inside from the flank took a deflection and dipped just wide of the near post. Braintree had the chance to notch a consolation three minutes from the end when Onariase was penalised for a trip on James Mulley inside the area, but Danzelle St Louis-Hamilton dived low to his right to deny Kenny Davis and preserve the Hammers' clean sheet.

West Ham sign Ecuador striker Enner Valencia in £12m deal
BBC.co.uk
West Ham have finalised the signing of Ecuador striker Enner Valencia after he was given a work permit. The striker has signed a five-year contract from Mexican club Pachuca for a fee reported to be £12m. Valencia, 24, scored three goals at the Fifa World Cup - two against Honduras and one against Switzerland - before Ecuador's group-stage elimination. He said: "I want to repay the club in my performances for what they are investing in me." In a statement, West Ham said they "fought off competition from a host of Europe's leading clubs" for Valencia. He played over 100 times for Ecuadorian club side Emelec before joining Pachuca in January. Valencia, who was a right winger until he joined the Mexican side, scored 18 goals in 23 league games last season.
"I really appreciate the welcome I've been given and I'm excited to be here," Valencia, who is no relation to Manchester United's Ecuador winger Antonio Valencia, told West Ham TV.
He joins West Ham following the signings of midfielder Diego Poyet from Charlton, striker Mauro Zarate from Velez Sarsfield, Anderlecht's Senegal international midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate and Ipswich full-back Aaron Cresswell.

Diego Poyet has issued an apology after a two-year old tweet in which he criticised West Ham emerged. New signing Poyet, posting on Twitter in April 2012 when his father Gus was manager of Brighton & Hove Albion referred to West Ham as '#scum' when he wrote the throwaway note to friends ahead of a meeting between the two sides.
The tweet had long been forgotten before an unnamed individual trawled Poyet's timeline and found the message, which has since been re-posted on the social media platform leading to Poyet's apology this lunchtime. "For all yous getting on to me about that tweet two years ago it was banter between some of my friends and me when I went to watch a game," he wrote. "I was supporting my dads team (Brighton). Obviously I regret it looking at it now but there's nothing I can do about it. I apologise. "I was 16 at the time and very naive, I will learn from my mistakes. I'm very happy to be at the club and have loved my time here so far."
Sadly Poyet's tweets had little effect on the scoreline; West Ham thrashed Brighton 6-0 on the day, with Ricardo Vaz Te scoring a hat-trick.

Former Hammer Jordan Spence is hoping to secure a contract with Championship side Blackburn Rovers. Now 24, the right-sided full back was released by West Ham at the end of last season after spending almost a decade at the Boleyn Ground. And having been unable to find a club closer to home since, Spence has now joined Rovers on trial where he hopes to impress manager Gary Bowyer. The former England youth international is set to make his debut for the former Premier League club against Bury, when the two clubs meet in a pre-season friendly at Gigg Lane tomorrow night (Wednesday). Spence made his debut for West Ham in the final game of the 2009/10 season as an 88th-minute substitute against Manchester City. The following season he made two starts under Avram Grant - the first of which came in the 3-2 defeat at Wigan that condemned West Ham to the drop and the second a week later in the final home game of the season against Sunderland. In his final season at the club, Spence enjoyed a run of seven games under Sam Allardyce including four further starts. However his appearance at Old Trafford in the 1-0 FA Cup third round defeat in January 2013 was to prove to be his last for West Ham.

Steve Bruce has admitted that West Ham are favourites to land Arsenal full-back Carl Jenkinson on loan. At the weekend it looked as if the 22-year-old full back would be on his way to the KC Stadium after the Tigers made a bid worth around £4million. However Bruce, speaking to Talksport this morning admitted defeat in his attempts to lure the once-capped English international to Humberside, who is set to join West Ham on a season-long loan. "There's about five or six clubs who would be interested in Carl because he's a very good player," he told Alan Brazil. "But Sam's in the box seat because of being in London, so I'm led to believe. "He was someone in whom we showed an interest but when a really good, young player comes out of Arsenal or one of the other big clubs then a club like ours is always looking for something like that. "He's got about five or six [clubs] to choose from, I would have thought. We did show interest but I'm led to believe that the boy wants to stay in London."

West Ham have signed striker Enner Valencia from Mexican side Pachuca
Last Updated: 29/07/14 3:06pm
SSN
West Ham United have completed the signing of Enner Valencia after the Ecuador striker was granted a work permit. Valencia agreed to join the Hammers from Mexican side Pachuca earlier this month but the signing was delayed until a hearing into his request for a permit. Record signing Andy Carroll has been ruled out for four months following surgery on an ankle injury so Valencia's successful hearing means the 25-year-old now joins Carlton Cole, Modibo Maiga and new recruit Mauro Zarate in the Hammers' strikeforce. "I scored many goals as a striker. I'm fast, and I try to continue like that because I know the goals brought me to West Ham."
Despite completing the capture of Valencia, who joins on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee, manager Sam Allardyce is still likely to try and sign another forward with question marks remaining over Carroll's long-term fitness. Valencia told the club's website: "It's exciting to be here in England and London. "I want to repay the club in my performances for what they are investing in me and I'm really looking forward to it. I really appreciate the welcome I've been given and I'm excited to be here.
Valencia also scored in Ecuador's 2-2 World Cup warm-up draw against England and wants to be just as successful when he comes up against the same opposition on a weekly basis. "For me, scoring against England, one of the big teams in the world, before the World Cup was important. Hopefully I can score again against those defenders," he said. "The Premier League is the top league and I have followed it in Mexico. Obviously my countryman Antonio Valencia has played here for a long time so it's a big step for me to come here from Mexico and I hope I can be as successful as Antonio. "I scored many goals as a striker. I'm fast, and I try to continue like that because I know the goals brought me to West Ham."

LOAN FOR CARL JENKINSON MOVES CLOSER
By Sean Whetstone 29 Jul 2014 at 10:36
West Ham Till I Die
Multiple sources claim a loan deal for right back Carl Jenkinson appears to have taken a step closer after the Gooners signed Calum Chambers from Southampton.
Arsenal recently rejected a £3m bid from Hull City valuing him at £5m and it is also claimed the player wants to remain in London. It is understood that talks to conclude the loan deal with West Ham which includes an option to buy is continuing today with a decision expected soon.
Jenkinson is a product of the Charlton youth academy who was loaned Conference South side Welling United on loan in early 2010 before starting a three-month loan with Conference Premier side Eastbourne Borough in late 2010. He made his first appearance for Charlton Athletic in the Football League Trophy Southern Section semi-final clash with Brentford at Griffin Park in December 2010, playing the whole match in the right-back position. Jenkinson signed for Arsenal in June 2011, for a fee thought to be around £1 million.
In August 2011, Jenkinson made his Arsenal competitive debut in the final qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League against Udinese, coming on as a second half substitute, replacing the injured Johan Djourou early in the second half. Jenkinson made his Premier League debut against Liverpool also in August 2011, starting at right-back. He kept his place in the team, playing in the second leg against Udinese and then at Old Trafford against Manchester United in the Premier League, although he was sent off later in the game for a foul on Javier Hernández. He also assisted Robin van Persie to score Arsenal's second in the game in a 8–2 loss against Manchester United.
Jenkinson suffered a stress fracture in his lower back which kept him out for 3 months.
Due to an injury to first choice right back, Bacary Sagna, Jenkinson started the first five matches of the 2012–13 season, and earned plaudits for his performance against Manchester City, among others. Jenkinson featured in all three of Arsenal's opening games of the 2013–14 campaign as injuries to defenders Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny forced Bacary Sagna to fill in at centre-back and Jenkinson to deputise at right-back. Despite Koscielny later returning, Jenkinson kept his place in the first-team after impressing against Fenerbahçe S.K. In May 2014 Jenkinson scored his first senior team goal for Arsenal in their 2-0 victory over Norwich City on the last day of the 2013-14 season.

950 HOMES TO RISE FROM BOLEYN GROUND ASHES
By Sean Whetstone 29 Jul 2014 at 08:30
West Ham Till I Die
A company called Boleyn Phoenix Limited have submitted a formal scoping opinion to the London Borough of Newham in respect of the proposed demolition and re-development of the Boleyn ground. The directors of Boleyn Phoenix are also directors of the Galliard group who have agreed to buy our ground once we vacate it.
The planning opinion suggests up to 950 residential homes in a number of buildings ranging in height from 4-16 storeys will be built, Another 950 square metres of the site will be developed to house small-scale commercial and community units. Associated infrastructure will also be built including new road access from Green Street, an extensive basement plus public and private open spaces and landscaping.
If planning permission is eventually granted for 950 homes at say an average of £200,000 per home that would gross £190 million Galliard homes less their expense of buying the land, demolition, the build and marketing!
The actual amount that West Ham United board sold the Boleyn Ground and it's land to the Galliard group has not been made public but it is thought to be considerably less the prize on offer for it's redevelopment. When Arsenal moved out of it's Highbury home they decided to develop it themselves by contracting the construction of 650 homes to Sir Robert McAlpine.

Elliot Lee scored twice in a West Ham United U21 pre season friendly game against Braintree Town this evening to take his pre season tally to six goals. This was his third double in the pre season campaign. His first double came against Havant and WaterlooVille on the 15th July in a 2-1 win, this was quickly followed 5 days later by another brace in a 4-2 win over RCD Espanyol. Just 9 days later he nets two again against Braintree. The whole of West Ham's first team have managed just four goals between them in their pre season friendlies so far.
Lee made his debut for the U21′ development squad in 2011 before signing his first professional contract in August 2012. Lee then made his professional debut for West Ham, as a 78th minute substitute for Ricardo Vaz Tê, on 16th January 2013 in a 1–0 defeat in the FA Cup 3rd Round replay at Old Trafford against Manchester United. In 2013 he signed for Colchester United on a one month loan where he scored one goal. Lee signed a new two and a half year deal earlier this year.
Many fans are asking why he is not training with the first team and why he wasn't invited to the New Zealand tour.

West Ham are eyeing up Cardiff City full-backs Fábio da Silvia and Declan John as Sam Allardyce looks to bolster his defence, according to the Daily Mail.
Discussions have occurred to possibly bring in the Cardiff duo to challenge left-back, Aaron Cresswell, who signed from Championship side Ipswich Town earlier in the summer. Fábio, 24, signed for the Bluebirds from Manchester United in January, and John, 19, has come through the club's youth system. Brazilian international Fabio made 13 Premier League appearances for City last season as they were relegated from the Premier League under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

West Ham United are keen to land Cardiff City full-backs Fabio da Silva and Declan John

East London and West Essex Guardian Series
Merthyr-born John made 16 top-flight starts last term, with a further four appearances coming from the bench for the South Wales outfit. Hammers boss Allardyce is keen to add more depth in the full-back positions after losing George McCartney, Matty Taylor and Pablo Armero at the end of last season.
