Homegrown defender James Tomkins was the No1 performer in the month of
August say fans
03.09.2011

James Tomkins has been rewarded for his magnificent start to the season by
running away with the SBOBET Player of the Month poll for August 2011. The
homegrown Hammer has been imperious in the opening four weeks of the season,
and took 49.2 per cent of the votes cast by West Ham United supporters on
whufc.com. In all, nearly 2,500 supporters had their say and Tomkins took
the same amount as votes as the other six candidates put together. Tomkins,
22, has particularly shone on the road, including his first goal of the
season in a 4-1 win away to Watford, and has looked imperious alongside
defensive partner Winston Reid. His nearest rivals were skipper Kevin Nolan
on 15.3 per cent and Matt Taylor on 9.3 per cent. Principal partners SBOBET
are continuing their support of a fan award which really captured the
imagination of fans last season. Tomkins will be presented with his prize
before the next home match against Portsmouth on Saturday 10 September - a
Kids for a Quid contest that kicks off at 3pm.

Carew crucial for Norway

Hammers striker John Carew's dream of playing at UEFA EURO 2012 has taken a
giant step forward
02.09.2011

John Carew made a significant impact for Norway as the only West Ham United
player involved on a busy night of UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying matches. The
Hammers striker was an 80th-minute substitute as Norway searched for a
winner late on at home to Iceland. With Egil Olsen desperate for a goal,
Carew was fouled by the visiting goalkeeper in the 88th minute and a penalty
awarded. It was duly converted to keep Norway at the top of Group H and
firmly on course for next summer's finals in Ukraine and Poland.
Carew was given a huge ovation as he left the field in Oslo, with his
contribution clearly changing the game. Norway can take another giant step
towards the summer competition on Tuesday night when Carew will hope to
start away to Denmark in the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. Elsewhere, Jack
Collison was not involved for Wales because of a virus as they took on
Montenegro in Cardiff. A Welsh victory would hand a huge extra bonus to
England, who won 3-0 away to Bulgaria to take a three-point outright lead at
the top of Group G before the home nations meet at Wembley on Tuesday.

Ahmed keen to impress Paolo

Ahmed Abdulla is out to make his mark after joining Paolo Di Canio's Swindon
Town
02.09.2011

Ahmed Abdulla is planning to make his mark after joining Swindon Town on
loan until the New Year. The young West Ham United midfielder linked up with
the Robins after speaking to Hammers great and County Ground manager Paolo
Di Canio. The Italian has told the 19-year-old to express himself in a
Swindon shirt, starting in Saturday's live Sky-televised League Two clash
with Rotherham United. "It's a good move for me," said Abdulla, who joined
West Ham from Arsenal at the age of 16 and has been a regular in the
reserves and development squad in recent seasons. "To go away on loan and
learn from someone like Paolo Di Canio, with the ability he had and the way
I try to play, hopefully I should fit in well to his squad. "I had a chat
with Paolo on the phone and he told me they were interested in me and liked
the way I play. Hopefully I can help them and they can help me to improve my
game. "I'd like to make my mark in the Swindon team and hopefully we can do
well while I am there. "Ian Hendon told me to keep doing what I am doing. I
know I have got an opportunity now to do something with myself in football."

Abdulla, who will wear No32 at Swindon, signed a new one-year professional
contract with the Hammers earlier this summer. He is one of four loanees who
could be in action for their respective clubs and countries this weekend.
Real Zaragoza loanee Pablo Barrera and his Mexico team-mates will travel to
Poland on Friday evening for a friendly international. In the Football
League, Cristian Montano will hope to feature when Notts County entertain
Bournemouth in League One on Saturday afternoon. In League Two, Olly Lee's
Dagenham & Redbridge travel to Hereford United, while Jordan Brown is in
line to make his senior debut for Aldershot Town in their home match against
Cheltenham Town. Jordan Spence will have a weekend off with npower
Championship club Bristol City due to the international break.

Galatasaray bid for Cole
Hammers consider offer for striker

Sky Sports Sources understand Galatasaray have made a bid for West Ham
striker Carlton Cole. The England international's future at Upton Park has
been subject to speculation this summer following West Ham's relegation from
the Premier League. Stoke tried to sign Cole earlier this summer, but the
player turned down the move to the Britannia Stadium. Now Galatasaray have
made a move for Cole as they look to bolster their attacking options.
Despite the transfer window closing on Wednesday a deal could still happen
as the Turkish transfer window remains open until Monday 5th September. Cole
has started the season well for West Ham with three goals and it remains to
be seen if they would consider selling the former Chelsea man.

The Positive and Negative Thread - Transfer Special

West Ham Online

As another transfer window slams shut it's time to look around to see you
has come in and who has moved on to pastures new and who has joined the
white knuckle rollercoaster of West Ham United. It was one of the busiest
windows for us that I can remember and of course time will tell which moves
will turn out to be good ones and which we will look back on with regret,
but on first impressions here are what I see as the (mainly) positives of
our transfer activity. I think when looking at the players in adn out it is
important to remember where we are as a club. Yes we are in strong position
compared to others around us but we are still a championship side and that
will limited the quality of the business we could do.

Players Out:

Loans: Olly Lee (D&R), Spence (Bristol City) Abdulla (Swindon), Brown
(Aldershot), Montano (Notts County)

I think all these young lads getting first team experience is excellent
especially as there is no reserve league for them to play in. Hopefully they
will do well and come back stronger players.

Loan: Barrera (Real Zaragoza)

Sorry to see this one happen and would like to have seen him given more of a
chance. He obviously has the talent as seen in the Copa America and I don't
think he has been given a fair crack here.

Released:

Upson - Took far too much stick from fans an used as a scapegoat for the
many poor performances of the team over last couple of years. His formn
dipped last year for sure but was not nearly as bad as many made out. He was
a good defender for us and although agree it was time for him to leave he'll
get a good reception from me should he ever play against us again.

Boa Morte - Similar to Upson in the unfair stick he got, he was never great
for us and again time for him to move on but one thing you could never doubt
was his commitment and effort which can't be said for all of our players.

Spector - Possibly one of the best attitudes from a player we have had.
Never really had a run of games and never in the same position. The phrase
that best sums him up was Utility player. Always gave 100% even if the
quality/match sharpness was understandably lacking. Will never forget how he
took Man Utd apart when he played in midfield for us.

Jacobsen - did a job, nothing more nothing less.

Hitzlsperger - Would having him for a full season made a difference?
probably not. Great left foot, would have been nice to keep him but easily
replaced.

Transfers:

Ba (Newcastle) - Big negative Ba going as I think he would have been
excellent in the Championship. Would have liked to have seen more effort to
keep him at the expense of 1 or 3 of other strikers.

Edgar (Yeovil) - I can't remember ever seeing him play, however when you
look at the buying club it's probably for the best. Wish him well like I
would any of our youth products.

Dyer (QPR) - I honestly thought City were going to buy Dyer.... Holby City!
Even as a free transfer I can't help thinking we over charged. what could
have been so good was always so so frustrating - still nice that he can
train with SWP again.

Gabbidon (QPR) - Never did it for me and pleased to see him move on. Always
more nervous when I saw him in defence.

Kovac (Basel) - An Undisclosed fee but i'm guessing it was somewhere in the
region of a chewed toffee and half a packet of regurgitated frazzles. An
Awful player who always made us a weaker by being in the side. A defensive
midfielder who couldn't tackle, pass or run.

Da Costa (Lokomotiv Moscow) - Showed flashes of talent and leap like a
salmon, but wont be missed by us or by the orange girls of Faces.

Hines/Stanislas (Burnley) - I'm sad these lads are leaving but I think the
reason i'm sad is because I always expected better and never saw it
delivered. Being honest I think if they hadn't come through the youth ranks
I would be pleased to see them go. I do hope they do well in their careers
and maybe with the right manager and formation they will start playing as
well as I thought they would. Will always love Junior for turning the
Millwall game into a great night.

Parker (Tottenham) - Have no problem in Parker wanting to play prem
football, I have no problem in Parker wanting to play for Spurs, the problem
I have is the way our owners allowed Spurs to mug us off. They were told an
asking price at the beginning of the summer and told if they want him to do
business early. They ignored both and ended up getting him cut price with a
few hours to go. Personally I don't think we'll miss him too much in this
league and with no sell on value you could argue the time was right to sell
- however selling to them at all leaves a bad taste and letting them mug us
off completely on timing and fee shows a total lack of class from G&S.

Summary: 21 players out. the loan players for exactly the right reasons
(Barrera aside) and cleared a lot of players that were either past their
sell by date or would make us worse by staying around. The Parker was dealt
with and BA leaving were the only real negatives as far as the outward
window is concerned.

Players In:

Loans:

Brian Montenegro (Deportivo Maldonado) - When brought in I think some
thought he is planned to be the answer to our attacking problems but I see
this more of a suck it and see loan deal. South Americans often have trouble
settling in England and as he is only 19 it is even a bigger risk if we were
to buy outright. A year loan is a sensible option to see how he settles, how
he adjusts and hopefully see some substitute apperances to see how he fits
in with the team - we shouldn't expect much on the playing side but good to
see the club not just looking at the here and now.

Henri Lansbury (Arsenal) - I'll amit to not knowing much about this lad but
after speaking to my Arsenal supporting brother have heard that he is a good
prospect and shows the quality and composure on the ball you would expect
from an Arsenal player, not short on pace either. My concern with loaning
kids is that we improve other teams players at the expense of our own
youngsters.

Bentley (Tottenham) - A good player and one i wanted us to go for a few
years back. We need width to give balance to the side and he gives us that
and can deliver a great ball. My concern would be his attitude, in general
and dropping down a league. Was he forced to come (as Crouch was to Stoke)
or is he up for the challenge. If attitude is good he could be a great
signing as i never felt he got the chance his talet warrrants at Spurs.

McCartney (Sunderland) - If it means Ilunga not playing then i'd have been
happy with Stella McCartney. George is nothing fancy will make the odd
mistake but feel much happier with him back.

Transfers

Diop/Demel/Faye (free/Hamburg/Stoke) - Positives say we add steel to the
team, negatives say we add lumps to the team. Time will tell but i'm not
overly excited about any of these. I'm hoping they will be used for cover.

Carew (Free) - Big imobile lump to go with the others we have. With him in
the team we won't be playing attractive football. With added width we have
he will be an asset on crosses and set pieces no doubt about it, but he will
be used as a target man to hold the ball up or knock on - I hope i'm made to
eat my words.

O'Brien (Bolton) - So far so good, we needed a right back and we got a
decent one for this level. I see him as a mirror image of McCartney which is
probably just what we needed.

Baldock (MK Dons) - To talk about him specifically would be worng as I have
never seen him play. But from hearing what kind of player he is it fills me
with optimism that we won't always be looking to play like we have in the
games i've seen this season and will try to play the ball on the floor more
- Young Hungry striker with pace and ability to finish... we've needed one
of those for ages.

Taylor (Bolton) - Excellent signing. Can play in a number of positions and
can play them well. A great left foot for set pieces and crosses, a premier
league player in the championship. Keeping hold of this type of player is
one thing, attracting them from the prem is something else.

Nolan (Newcastle) - Same as Taylor as far as attracting him is concerned and
will bode well that we have this type of quality should we go back up. It
also shows how much some players must enjoy working with Sam which is a
massive positive. So far he hasn't been very good but his quality is
undoubted and he looks like a leader on the pitch too.

Summary:

Mainly big positives in the players that we have got not just in quality but
also the positions that needed filling have (quality defensive midfielder
aside) have been filled. Of course time will tell if they have been filled
well but so far so good.

The other big positive for me was the players we kept. We have the best
keeper in the league and one that would walk into a number of Prem clubs.
Tomkins, Collison, Noble all Academy boys who hopefully will shine this year
again.

The Negatives would be the amount of lumps we have and the tupe of strikers
we have and have kept as it leads me to believe a lot of our football will
be poor to watch - although I am more optimistic than i was this time last
week.

The main thing is the window is closed now so lets get behind the very
decent squad we have and lets see us more up and out of this league.

I'm sure you won't all agree with these views so feel free to tell me where
i'm wrong. Apologies if i have missed anyone and also for the length of the
thread too.

Thanks for reading

An Excellent Transfer Window, as the Club Does the Business!
September 3rd, 2011 - 6:04 am by S J Chandos
West Ham Till I Die

West Ham completed some excellent business in the transfer window. Yes,
folk hero, Scott Parker, has been sold, but overall we now have a stronger
squad. Sam Allardyce really does have to be applauded for the quality of
the footballers that he has targeted and secured since arriving at the club.
He has overseen a quick fire restructure of the relegated 2010-11 squad,
which has seen long overdue exits for the perpetually injured, those not
sufficiently committed and the deadwood, who were never good enough to wear
a West Ham shirt.

The truth is that after escaping relegation by the skin of our teeth in
2009-10, this type of restructure should have been undertake whilst we were
still in the PL. It is not right to suggest that somehow we had to be
relegated before we could appoint a quality Manager to turn the the club
around. As they would probably freely admit, the West Ham Board made all
the wrong decisions in appointing Avram Grant and trying to survive in the
PL on the cheap. It resulted in ineffective management and the retention of
too many players who lacked quality and commitment and that, in turn, laid
the groundwork for the disaster 2010-11 season and relegation. However, as
well pointing the figure of blame, we need to acknowledge that this summer
the board not only picked the right manager, but have backed him in the
transfer market; as well as keeping a lid on the controversial public
statements that so blighted Zola and Grant's periods of tenure. In
particularly, David Sullivan is reputed to have worked tirelessly to bring
Allardyce's transfer targets to the club and has enjoyed significant
success. Both Sullivan and Gold have been subject to significant criticism
in the past, some of it justified, some of it not, but credit where credit
is done, they have created an enviroment in which Sam Allardyce has been
able to begin radically transforming the culture, practices and playing
staff at the club.

For my part, I saw the pre-season priorities of the club as retaining the
younger players like Tomkins, Collison and Noble and keepig at least two of
the three England Internationals (Parker, Green and Cole) at the club. And
it looks very much that like it has been achieved. The recruitment of Nolan
and co is a massive bonus. The objective was not only to achieve promotion,
but to go up with the basis of a squad that could than keep us in the PL the
following season. The yo-yo syndrome that afflicted the likes of WBA for so
many seasons needed to be avoided. The current squad is much better
equipped in this respect than I could ever have hoped.

Do you remember the start of the 2003-04 season? That was the most worrying
start to a campaign that I have experienced as a supporter of West Ham Utd
FC. The club started the season under Glen Roeder, who in many respects was
a managerial kindred spirit of Grant, and had been systenmatically asset
stripped of our best players, such as Di Canio, Joe Cole, Glen Johnson,
Fredi Kanoute, etc. Carrick stayed a further season (mainly due to injury
problems), David James left later in the campaign, Repka and Dailly stayed
out of loyalty and Defoe (briefly) under protest. But the quality of the
vast majority of the squad that started the season was far too sparse. The
remainder of the squad was made up of untested youngsters, journeymen and
loanees. Yes, Sir Trevor (the greatest West Ham Manager that we never had!)
stablised the boat after Roeder's belated sackng; yes, Pardew was appointed
and very slowly turned the situation around. However, there was a period at
the beginning of the 2003-04 season when things looked incredibly bleak and
a long stay in the Championship was on the cards. We dodged that bullet,
but it still took us two seasons to get promoted and even then it was
through the play-offs.

Contrast that with the start of 2011-12, with a strong and experienced
Manager in place, the majority of the quality players retained and further
quality added. Indeed, the truly remarkable thing is that Allardyce has
been able to sign PL quality players in the 2nd tier. Lets but honest, if
we had survived in the PL last season, we would have been happy to sign the
likes of Nolan, Taylor, Demel, Lansbury and Bentley. To do that in the 2nd
tier is a significant achievement. We now have a squad capable not only of
winning promotion, but also of giving us a very good platform for a
successful return to the PL, with the added bonus of some top quality
youngsters coming off the Academy production line.

Things look bright and there is a new positivity at the club. I was sad to
see the exit of some players such as Hines and Stanislas. Particularly,
Stanislas who had the potential to succeed with the club. But as they say,
potential has to be actualised at some point and perhaps the club finally
concluded that it was not going to happen. It may have been that neither
player fitted in to the new ethos being created by Allardyce and that is one
of the underlying reasons for their exit? Regardless, I wish them both
well at Burnley. I hope that they succeed there and go on to have good
careers.

It was interesting to read that the response of some supporters to
Wednesday's signings. It was of the 'how are we going to play them all'
variety. The point, however, is that you do not have to play them all at
the same time! This is not the 1970s where you have a first eleven and a
squad of reserves who are seen as 'second string.'. Today, football is a
squad game and you need top quality players competing for each and every
position. For too long, West Ham have not had that, they have had a first
team that basically picked itself, with the rest lacking sufficient
experience or quality to challenge them for selection. Subsequently players
in that self-selecting first team just turned up and went through the
motions in training, knowing that, if fit, they would play each week.

Now, hopefully, we have enough quality to ensure that players turn up each
day to training knowing that they have to perform. There should be no
'favourities,' players must compete for selection on merit and it should be
expected that displaced players pull their socks up and fight to get his
place back. With that sort of competition for places the whole standard of
performance improves, as everyone is doing their utmost to impress and gain
selection. Of course, in addition to issues of form, there is also the need
for a strong squad to cover injuries and to give the manager the option to
change formation. This season we will probably play a 4-5-1 away and either
a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 at home. Players like P.B. Diop have been brought in to
stiffen the midfield in away matches and shore things up, as necessary, in
home matches Hopefully, there will be no more late opposition goals, a la
Cardiff City and Leeds Utd, that result in us losing valuable points.

It is all about professionalism really. I feel that there has always been
something of the 'Old Corinthians' in West Ham's make up. You could change
the manager and the players, but the club always had similiar
caracteristics. And we all know what they are: a tendency to not kill off
the opposition when we have them under the cosh, susceptibility to the
sucker punch and a fustrating inconsistency of match performance. Often we
win where we rightly should stand no chance and then lose to weaker teams.
That is great when we are performing heroics to deny Manchester Utd the PL
title or knock them out of the FA Cup at Old Trafford; but is not so good
when we lose to Tranmere in the cup!

We have seen some residues of this incnsistency this season as well. So far
West Ham's performances have been Jekell and Hyde. Away from home we have
been organised, efficient and fairly ruthless in defeating Doncaster,
Watford and Forest; while at home we have squandered countless chances and
been punished by the opposition scoring late goals. Plus, there has even
been the obligatory cup defeat to lower league Aldershot! But, as I have
argued previously, Sam Allardyce does not have a magic wand to wave that
instantly puts everything right. There was bound to be hang overs from last
season, it is just a matter of working ceaselessly to put it right.
Allardyce's next priority is to crack the psychological block that we have
at Upton Park. In doing so, playing at Upton Park needs to become a
positive once again, rather than a negative. But I tend to think that the
away victories are the harbinger of West Ham's future under Allardyce; tight
at the back, competitive in midfield and ruthless in the final third.

Which raises another point, the football under Allardyce has not been route
one or boring has it? The team try to play good passing football, the
difference is that they are much more organised and they are playing as a
team, not a group of individuals barely on nodding acquaintance! Allardyce
'cuts his cloth' according to what his has in the squad and the teams that
he is facing. If you have quality ball players like Noble and Collison, why
would you use route one? Sure, there will be occasions when the team needs
to resort to the tactic of being more direct, in getting the ball into the
danger zones in the penalty box, to pressurize and exploit the defensive
weaknesses of particular opponents. However, the key thing is that we can
play good passing football, as well as adopting that more direct approach as
the circumstances dictate.

Anyway, personally, I have always thought that there is a lot of loose and
ill-defined talk about the infamous 'long ball' game. If that means playing
every match like Birmingham did last season, pumping high balls in to the
penalty box for a big striker, like Zigic, to knock down to the on rushing
Bowyer and Gardner, then fine. I am an opponent of that type of % football
as a playing style. However, there is nothing wrong with spotting the
opportunity to play long balls forward in to space for forwards to exploit
with pace and finishing ability. The greatest 'long ball' goal has got to
Geoff Hurst's third in the 1966 WC Final, where Bobby Moore picked him out
with a beautiful 40 yard ball forward. While in 1985-86, that fabled title
chasing team frequently played long balls forward in to space for Cottee and
McAvennie to run on to. So, really the type of football that we criticise
should more accurately be called % football, rather than the 'long ball.'

I feel that Sam Allardyce has won over the West Ham fans with his
professionalism, competance and ability to retain and attract quality
players. Yet, the appointment of Allardyce, our bloody nemesis whose Bolton
teams inflicted so many painful defeats upon us, required some adjustment in
the early stages. It felt a bit like the plot of the film Rocky III, where
former arch-enemy Apollo Creed, trains Rocky Balboa to win back his World
title against all the odds! We should have every expectation that the West
Ham-Allardyce team up will have a similiarly successful conclusion!

Galatasaray Bid £8m for Carlton Cole!
West Ham Till I Die

Our old 'friends' at the Daily Mail are reporting that Turkish club,
Galatasaray, have put in a £8m bid for Carlton Cole. Apparently the Turkish
transfer window does not close until this Monday.

Galatasaray may well be interested in Cole, but I doubt that Sam Allardyce
will sanction any deal. He has just got the squad up to a good standard in
terms of quality and numbers, can you see him sanctioning a deal now?
Indeed, West Ham would be ill advised to weakened their strike force by
accepting it. £8m is a decent bid, but the club need to focus 100% upon the
prize of a PL return next May. £8m now is not so inticing set against the
£40-50 plus on offer for returning to the top flight.

I do not think that the player will want to go. Cole is clearly committed
to West Ham and fighting for promotion. Besides which he appears to want to
stay in London.

So, Mr Sullivan, please reject the bid and tell them not to bother bidding
again, this side of next May!

Hammers snub £4m bid for in-form Cole from Galatasary
By SAMI MOKBEL
Last updated at 10:50 PM on 2nd September 2011
Daily Mail

West Ham have rejected Galatasaray's £4million bid for in-form striker
Carlton Cole. Turkey's transfer window does not close until Monday night
and Cole was being urged to keep an open mind about playing abroad as
Galatasaray considered an improved offer. Sources close to the striker said
that the 27-year-old would be reluctant to leave London after a promising
start to the season, in which he has scored three goals in five League games
under Sam Allardyce. Hammers co-owner David Gold tweeted: 'The offer for
Carlton Cole is not being considered.' Allardyce would have been unable to
sign a replacement for Cole until January, a key factor in the Hammers'
decision, which is a clear sign of the club's ambition to make a quick
return to the Barclays Premier League.

Elliot eyes another treble
WHUFC.com
Elliot Lee is targeting a fourth consecutive hat-trick for the U18s this
weekend
02.09.2011

Hat-trick hero Elliot Lee is in the form of his young life. The 16-year-old
Academy striker has netted a treble in each of his previous three FA Premier
Academy League appearances against Chelsea, Sheffield United and Sunderland.
Lee's amazing goal-scoring feats have helped the Hammers to begin the
2011/12 season in perfect fashion, defeating the Blades 4-1 at Little Heath
and the Black Cats 3-2 at the Academy of Light. With a trip to Tottenham
Hotspur to look forward to on Saturday, the teenager is planning to take the
match ball home with him for a fourth consecutive match. "It's been really
good to get three hat-tricks against Chelsea, Sheffield United and
Sunderland," Lee told West Ham TV. "I'm just enjoying playing my football at
the minute and I just think this form comes with it. "I don't know what the
secret has been. I just get myself in the box and I always want to score in
every game. I just want to enjoy my football and I think the goals have come
along with that."

It does not take a genius to work out that Lee possesses a deadly eye for
goal, but there is much more to his game than that. Strength, movement, fine
close control and a decent turn of pace all mean that the West Ham youngster
is a player to be feared. All that said, Lee's famous father Rob - the
former England midfielder - Academy Director Tony Carr and Under-18s coach
Nick Haycock will insist that the striker does not get carried away by his
recent success. "I think I've got naturally good movement, I work hard in
every game and my eagerness to score goals are my strengths. Like I said, I
want to score in every game. "I'm definitely not going to get carried away.
I always want to keep my feet on the ground. I just want to enjoy my
football and if I can keep working hard and scoring goals, I can push myself
into the development squad and who knows after that, really. "My Dad just
tells me to keep enjoying my football and everything will come if I just
keep playing and scoring goals. I always listen to my Dad because his advice
is great. He's been there and done it, so I'd be an idiot not to listen to
him."

While Lee is stealing the headlines, he is merely one of a host of
highly-promising scholars within the club's Academy at present. Second-years
Matthias Fanimo, Blair Turgott and Danny Potts have all started the season
superbly, while first-years Leo Chambers and Kieran Sadlier have both been
tipped for great things should they continue to develop. "We've got a really
solid side and I think we'll go really far this season with the likes of Leo
and Danny at the back and Kieran, Matthias and Blair creating goals. "My
football is really good at the moment because I get chances in every game
with Matthias, Blair and Kieran creating them."

While his club football is going swimmingly, one accolade that has so far
eluded Lee is an international call-up - an honour achieved by all his
aforementioned team-mates. "It would be great if I could get a chance with
the England national team, but if I keep scoring my goals then hopefully a
call-up will come." "We've got a really solid side and I think we'll go
really far this season with the likes of Leo Chambers and Danny Potts at the
back and Kieran Sadlier, Matthias Fanimo and Blair Turgott creating goals.
"My football is really good at the moment because I get chances in every
game with Matthias, Blair and Kieran creating them."

Carr targets Tottenham
WHUFC.com
The Academy Director is looking to the team to make it three wins out of
three this weekend

Tony Carr is relishing the prospect of a weekend derby away to Tottenham
Hotspur after the Under-18s won a five-goal thriller at Sunderland. The
weekend win - achieved in no small measure thanks to Elliot Lee's third
successive league hat-trick - made it two victories from two matches in the
2011/12 FA Premier Academy League. "It was a happy coach coming back from
Sunderland," he told whufc.com. "We went over up overnight and had a
six-and-a-half hour journey. We stayed overnight at Seaburn and then it was
just a five minute journey to their training ground. Things went very well
for us and it was a terrific team performance."

The Academy Director was particularly pleased to see the way the young
Hammers battled back, having seen a two-goal advantage squandered in the
second half. "We have all been there before, when you are two-up and the
other team come back. Fortunately we had enough in the tank to break away
and get the winner."
"Myself and [coach] Nick Haycock are very pleased with the whole squad. We
used 14 players and they all did what we needed. Elliot will take the
attention and he is showing good form. He has nine goals in three games and
can't stop scoring. There is a long way to go for him but he should be
pleased."

Sunderland posed a stern test at times with Carr admitting "there were one
or two scares". He added: "They were disappointed to lose as they had a lot
of the game and a lot of possession. We created as many chance as them but
had to work hard to stay on top. It was a very good win and double pleasing
as the Under-16s also won 3-0."

Carr added that the Tottenham trip this Saturday would be boosted by the
return of Leo Chambers, who has been away captaining the England U17 side.
Chambers is just one of several internationals in the team, with centre-back
partner Danny Potts capped by the United States, Kieran Sadlier, an Irish
regular and Blair Turgott and Matthias Fanimo are also regulars for England
at youth level.

Henri happy with starring role
WHUFC.com
West Ham United fans will have been impressed by Henri Lansbury's
performance for England U21s
01.09.2011

Henri Lansbury toasted his move to West Ham United with a dream display for
England Under-21s on Thursday. The Hammers midfielder joined on loan from
Arsenal on transfer deadline day and then lined up for the Young Lions for
the start of UEFA European U21 Championship qualifying. Lansbury was the
star man, scoring twice and making the first and last goals in a 6-0 victory
against Azerbaijan at Watford. His first goal was the pick of the bunch, a
superbly-executed overhead kick on 21 minutes. England were already one-up
at that point with Lansbury's corner picking out Craig Dawson to head in.
Jordan Henderson made it three on the stroke of half-time before Lansbury
added the fourth on 73 minutes with a powerful finish. The scoring continued
through Martyn Waghorn as the game entered its closing stages but it was
Lansbury who was announced to the Vicarage Road crowd as man of the match
before making a second for Dawson in identical fashion to the first on 90
minutes.

Lansbury said: "It is a great start, we have had a great few days training
with the lads. I didn't think [the overhead kick] was going in at first but
I'll take it!
"There is a lot of talent here. We showed that in the qualifiers last time
as well but hopefully we can do better. It is not an easy group, every
international is hard so we have to go into each game and give our all."

Speaking for the first time about his move to the Boleyn, he added: "I am
looking forward to it. I met Big Sam yesterday and hopefully I can carry on
what I've shown tonight."

ESPN analyst Martin Keown was among those heaping praise on the Hammers' new
No22. "What has impressed me his is footballing intelligence," he said. "
Lansbury is able to identify what's on at will. He has been very impressive
and is the glue in this England team holding it all together ... Sam
Allardyce has done a good bit of business."

Still only 20, Lansbury could figure for England again on Monday night when
they welcome 2013 EURO hosts Israel to Barnsley's Oakwell. He is then due to
report to Chadwell Heath on Tuesday to meet his new West Ham United
team-mates for the first time.

Bentley eyes 'perfect relationship'
WHUFC.com
England midfielder David Bentley is going to give his all for West Ham
United
01.09.2011

David Bentley believes he and West Ham United could have 'the perfect
relationship' after joining the club on a season-long loan from Tottenham
Hotspur. The England midfielder, who turned 27 last Saturday, is hoping to
kick-start his career after three frustrating seasons at White Hart Lane.
Still in the prime of his career, Bentley told West Ham TV that he sees the
Boleyn Ground as the perfect place to regain the form that made him one of
the country's most coveted footballers.
"West Ham is a good club and is a club where the manager wanted me," said
the club's new No8. "We have good players and it is in London which will
keep my family happy. Hopefully I can come here and do well. "I knew about
the move over quite a period of time and when my agent told me that West Ham
were interested, it was a move that was definitely of interest to me. "I
spoke to Sam - I won't say what he said but it was a good conversation.
Hopefully I can come here and be positive and do well."

Like fellow summer signings Kevin Nolan, Matt Taylor, John Carew and Joey
O'Brien, Bentley said he had no hesitation in dropping into the npower
Championship to play his football. The Peterborough-born player, who will be
fit for selection in West Ham's next npower Championship fixture at home to
Portsmouth on 10 September, is determined to make up for lost time by
shining in a claret and blue shirt. "Every player wants to play in the
Premier League but sometimes you have to make that step and hopefully it'll
be the right step for my career. "I've had a few low points over the last
few years and hopefully I can rebuild as West Ham are trying do to -
hopefully it can be the perfect relationship. "I'm trying to rebuild my
career like West Ham are trying to rebuild themselves as a football club, so
hopefully we can go hand-in-hand."

Should he do well, Bentley said he would have no qualms about turning his
season-long loan into a permanent move to east London. "Of course I would
definitely consider staying here. If they consider keeping me, then I'd
definitely consider it. "We'll have to see how my time here is going to pan
out, but the main priority is to get promoted and that's what I've come here
to do and help the club to do. "After that, we'll see, but I'd definitely
consider it."

Big Sam hails deadline's passing

Sam Allardyce says he can relax once again now the summer transfer window
deadline has passed. Speaking to the Daily Mail today, West Ham United's
manager admitted that he feared late 'too-good-to-turn-down' offers for some
of his players prior to last night's 11pm deadline - but confessed to being
delighted that those fears failed to materialise and he managed to retain
the remainder of his squad. "Managers in my position dread the final few
days of the transfer window. In the end, this deadline day went well for us
at West Ham United," he said. "We managed to bring in three good players; an
experienced performer in Papa Bouba Diop, someone involved in Norwich City's
promotion last season in Henri Lansbury and David Bentley. If we can get
Bentley back to the level he has reached in the past, he will be an exciting
signing."

On Scott Parker - who the club have been actively seeking to sell since West
Ham were relegated at the end of last season and has been as good as gone
for some time - he added: "We've obviously known for some time that he could
be moving on. He's 30 years old and he feared he could lose his England
place if he did not play in the Barclays Premier League this season."

A fierce critic of the current transfer system, Allardyce continues to call
for change in the current arrangement - but admits that most, if not all
systems have their negative aspects. "For other managers I'm sure it was
frustrating," he argued. "They might now be staring at gaping holes in their
squad, forcing them into a major rethink after months of hard work. "This
is the problem with the transfer window. It is hugely disruptive and a
massive distraction. But I can't see a solution. Bringing the transfer
window forward and closing it a month earlier would create new problems."

The dirty dozen: Sam's summer signings

14th June
Abdoulaye Faye: free transfer

16th June
Kevin Nolan: Newcastle Utd, £4m

23rd July
Matthew Taylor: Bolton, £2.2m

30th July
Joey O'Brien: free transfer

6th August
John Carew: free transfer

10th August
George McCartney: Sunderland, season-long loan

26th August
Sam Baldock: MK Dons, £2m + £750,000 add-ons

29th August
Brian Montenegro: Club , season-long loan

30th August
Papa Bouba Diop: free transfer

31st August
David Bentley: Tottenham, season-long loan
Henri Lansbury: Arsenal, season-long loan
Gyu Demel: SV Hamburg, undisclosed fee

Over-chuffed!

First of all, let me take my metaphorical hat off to Carlton Cole and Robert
Green. Two players who could have understandably put in transfer requests
before the month of May had finished, but didn't - and Carlton stayed true
to his words that he wanted to stay with us, even in the Championship.

He seems to be loving it here, and any doubters can just watch the way he
celebrates others' goals as well as his. It was a delight to watch his arms
pumping the air after we got our second against Watford.

Rob Green, although not publicly coming out and echoing Carlton's words of
staying, has been very professional and kept himself low-key, and has made
no overtures about playing in the premier league and his England chances.
Thanks lads, I am sure we all really appreciate it; I know I do.

On the same subject, Mark Noble, James Tomkins and Jack Collison could have
all easily jumped ship, trading their roots and Championship football for a
below-average Premier League outfit, but they didn't. They all stayed.

And while I'm at it, I'd like to thank Julian Faubert whose move to West Ham
hasn't exactly been good for his career, but he always gives it 100 per cent
and doesn't spit a dummy when he was played out of position. He's an
attacking midfielder (and very handy at that), not a full back.

I'm also pleased for Winston Reid, who must have been cursing the day West
Ham got in touch with him about this time last year. He seems to be
fulfilling his potential. Let's hope Barrera comes back and does the same.

So we have a core of players who were with us last season, and we have shed
the players who were for one reason or another, just not cutting it at our
club, although I don't agree with the moving on of Hines and Stanislas. Both
have bags of potential, so let's hope those decisions won't come back to
bite us.

I would like to say thank you to Scott Parker for his service, but he
blatantly doesn't really care about our club much. He'd rather spin the
nonsense about his England place, which was never under threat had he wanted
to stay with us. Capello had not only stated on Sky that he would still pick
players from the Championship, and backed that up by picking him and Green
for England's upcoming qualifiers.

So what of our new look squad? It could be said that we are still a bit
light on the strength-in-depth - but not in the strength.

Let's be honest, we have signed some real beasts: guys who wouldn't be
bottling the challenges some of our lot did last season; guys who will not
think twice about flattening the opposition (fairly hopefully) for
possession; guys who will hopefully strike the fear of God into the
opposition when they see a team more resembling a Rugby side than a West Ham
side; guys who will fight for their manager, himself not short of a few
kilos.

Basically we have now got a squad to match the manager. And this is good
news for us supporters, I think.

I think this because after watching the 2005–06 season review, Alan Pardew
said of the FA Cup game verses Sam's Bolton team that it was the hardest,
most physical game he'd been involved in and that our players were on their
knees by the end. It means now we can watch our team give it their all,
fight for every ball, and hopefully with the more skillful players, also
mesmerize the other teams.

I'm looking forward to seeing Baldock link up with Carlton, and watching us
compete as the games mount up, which will give some of the other lads a
chance to really make an impact. I think defensively we'll be strong, and
they will have a solid midfield in front of them.

And let's see plenty of goals flying in the other end (quick point to Sam. I
know you wanted to see the game out against forest, but with 85 minutes on
the clock, and being 1 – 4 up, surely we could have stopped trying to take
the ball into the corners and tried for a fifth or sixth in the same manner
Man Utd did against Arsenal).

All in all I am feeling very good about our new manger, our new look team,
and our league position. I am fully behind Big Sam, the team as always, and
for once the board has kept quiet and let him their manager get on with his
job. Onwards and upwards!

The new Bentley brigade

New signing David Bentley says his move to West Ham could be the kick-start
his career needs. The 27-year-old - who will wear the number eight shirt
vacated by Scott Parker - signed on loan from Tottenham yesterday, one of
three deadline day signings made by Sam Allardyce as he sought to enhance
his squad ahead of last night's 11pm deadline. As well as the former England
winger, Allardyce managed to land Henri Lansbury from Arsenal and Guy Demel
from Hamburg during the day - completing what many Hammers fans are hailing
as the club's best ever transfer window, despite the loss of Parker. It
could also prove to be the best transfer window ever for Bentley, who has
suffered a torrid time at White Hart Lane. Having convinced himself that he
had no chance of forcing his way back into Harry Redknapp's plans - few do
once having fallen out of favour - he jumped at the chance to move from
north to east London. And should the 2011/12 campaign prove a successful one
for both West Ham and Bentley, he sees no reason why he can't prolong his
stay at the club. "Of course I would definitely consider staying here. If
they consider keeping me, then I'd definitely consider it," he told
whufc.com this morning. We'll have to see how my time here is going to pan

Junior: I just want to play football

Junior Stanislas has revelaed why he decided to join former team mate Zavon
Hines at Championship rivals Burnley. The 21-year-old London-born youngster
finally waved goodbye to the Boleyn Ground yesterday having been with the
club for 11 years, since he was aged just ten. Despite having no inclination
to move away from his childhood club, it was made clear by the steady stream
of new arrivals that summer that he was considered surplus to requirements
by Sam Allardyce. As a result, Stanislas signed a three year deal with the
Clarets yesterday, hours ahead of the transfere deadline. Despite admitting
that he will miss east London, the winger admits that he will be pleased to
team up with pal Hines once again. "I'm delighted to be here. It's a big
decision, but at the same time it's all about playing football," he told the
Lancashire Telegraph. "I just want to play week in and week out and
unfortunately that wasn't happening back in London. "If you are not doing
that at one club, then you have to look elsewhere. That's football, so
hopefully I can come here and make an impression. Burnley seems like a good
family club with good people, so I'm glad it's all gone through and I'm just
eager to get playing again. "Zavon and I have spoken a few times and he has
been telling me how friendly the people, the manager and staff are so I'm
really looking forward to it. A lot of the boys here are hungry and
determined to get back in the Premier League, so it's sounding good for us."

KUMB.com would like to wish Junior the very best of luck with his new club.

Burnley new boy Junior Stanislas admits he had to leave West Ham for the
sake of his career. The 21-year-old winger found his opportunities limited
under Sam Allardyce at Upton Park and made a switch to Turf Moor on transfer
deadline day in a bid to get more first-team action. "It's a big decision
but at the same time it's all about playing football," Stanislas told
Burnley's official website. "I just want to play week in, week out and
unfortunately that wasn't happening back in London. "If you are not doing
that at one club then you have to look elsewhere. That's football, so
hopefully I can make an impression here. "Burnley seem like a good, family

Delighted

Burnley boss Eddie Howe was delighted to lure Stanislas to Turf Moor. The
England Under-21 international became the Clarets' seventh summer signing
after arriving on a three-year deal ahead of Wednesday night's transfer
deadline. "I was pleased to bring Junior in. I think he's going to be an
excellent signing for us," said Howe.
"I am very pleased with the attacking options we have. I think we are going
to be a real threat going forward this season, as we have proved already at
times."

Henri Lansbury scores cracking overhead kick for England U21s
Friday, September 2nd, 2011

It has been an eventful week for Henri Lansbury, who was a late sub for
Arsenal in their mauling at Manchester United on Sunday, moved on loan to
West Ham on transfer deadline day and then scored a brace for England
Under-21 against Azerbaijan on Thursday evening. Time could well be running
out for Lansbury at Arsenal who has been sent on another loan spell to join
Sam Allardyce at West Ham, following previous lower league outings with
Scunthorpe, Norwich and Watford. Arsene Wenger's signings of Yossi Benayoun
and Mikel Arteta suggest Lansbury could well have to pull out some special
performance at Upton Park to get the attention of the Arsenal manager.
Lansbury starred for England Under-21s as they hit Azerbaijan for six on
Thursday night, scoring twice but his first was a special goal – an overhead
kick from that nestled in the far corner. Fellow Arsenal youngster Alex
Oxlade-Chamberlain was the provider with a fine run and cross down the
right, with Lansbury producing a beauty.

So long, Scotty
KUMB.com
Filed: Wednesday, 31st August 2011
By: Daniel Nuss

Today marks the end of Scott Parker's time in the claret and blue. Having
arrived in 2007, his early days were marked by injuries and his £7million
price tag was starting to raise some questions.

It was only the following season that he moved into a pivotal role within
the team. This resulted in him winning the Hammer of The Year award at the
end of the 08/09 season. Parker would later go on to retain the award the
following season (the first to do so since Julian Dicks in '97).

As a player, Parker embodied a lot of what we look for as fans. 100 per cent
commitment each game, grit and determination. Scotty was never shy of a
tackle, nor did he go missing when the going got tough. At a time where the
team needed guiding, our players turned to Scott for inspiration. An absent
captain and a clueless manager mattered not to Scott, who just got on with
his business as usual.

He leaves us with plenty of good memories, though they are personal
highlights as opposed to team success. This is because of poor management,
lack of effort on his team mates behalf and a general feel-bad atmosphere
surrounding the club. Amidst it all, Parker was a sight for sore eyes with
his energy and belief. Leading by example, Scott often pulled his teammates
through games using sheer will power.

When building a team, any manager worth his salt will look for a Scott
Parker type player. A hard worker, willing to put himself in harm's way for
the cause. This endeared him to us. A great testament to the man's character
was the way he handled his personal affairs last season. Losing his father
to illness a day prior to a very important away match against bitter rivals
Tottenham, Scott showed great professionalism and lead the team to a 0-0
draw.

To get through a game after such an ordeal speaks volumes for the true
getnleman that he is. Another memorable moment is the famous half-time
teamtalk at The Hawthorns. 3-0 down at the break, Parker took over the
dressing room to try and rally his troops. His speech left Carlton Cole with
tears in his eyes. The game ended 3-3.

Not even Parker, who won the 'Football Writers' Player of the Year' award,
could save West Ham from relegation last season. Having signed a contract
extension with a considerable pay rise it was clear that the club would not
be able to keep hold of him in the Championship. Parker knew his England
place was far from certain, and a season in the fizzy pop ahead of the Euro
2012 finals could do him a disservice. The club, on the other hand, needed
to get him off the books and re-invest the money into the team.

Towards the end of his time with us, there were voices questioning his
commitment and effort. He was accused of bottling challenges in order to
avoid injuries. I for one don't believe this to be true. Not after what
we've been through and the way he went about his business.

The character he's shown in recent years should forever be engraved in the
minds of West Ham supporters. Parker's official transfer request on August
30th was a hard pill to swallow. It meant the player had waived any loyalty
bouns owed to him, whilst expressing his desires in public for the very
first time following the club's relegation.

It's never easy is it? Letting go of your favourite players. You start
rationalising the move, saying it's best for both parties, questioning his
commitment and looking for the positive aspects of the sale. In reality
though, he will be missed both as a player and as a person. In his absence,
fans and players will turn to Kevin Nolan for proper leadership, a quality
he quite clearly possesses.

The money recieved for Parker could be of real use for Big Sam, who wants to
bulk up his paper-thin squad. The gaffer admits he is looking for at least
two additions, one of which will surely be a midfielder.

So today, we bid farewell to a player who was nothing but a credit to the
claret and blue. He may be leaving us to join Tottenham, but he should be
remembered for his never-ending effort when pulling on our shirt. A true
gent and one of a choice few who have earned the right to leave the club on
amicable terms.

Should our club win promotion this season, Parker's first game back in a
Tottenham shirt promises to be an interesting affair. Best of luck in the
future, Scott. Your pirouettes will surely be missed.

West Ham go into their next Championship game without 25 players who ended
the 2010/11 season at the club. With the summer transfer window now
officially closed, the full extent of the club's activity in the market
during the summer can be revealed. An astonishing 37 players have either
arrived at or left West Ham United since temporary manager Kevin Keen
oversaw the 3-0 home defeat to Middlesborough just three months ago. However
only six of those transfers have involved transfer fees - the highest being
that for Scott Parker, who was sold to Tottenham earlier today for a fee
believed to be £5million.

The only other fee received for an outgoing player was from Locomotiv
Moscow, who paid around £1.5million for central defender Manuel Da Costa.
West Ham, who have signed 12 players sactioned fees for four of those; the
purchases of Guy Demel, Sam Baldock, Matthew Taylor and Kavin Nolan.

Full details of the club's summer transfer business can be seen below.

West Ham Transfer News: Hammers Do Good Business on Deadline Day
By James Kent (Contributor) on August 31, 2011 433 reads 0
Bleacher Report.com

Scott Parker may have moved on to Tottenham, but West Ham has moved quickly
to bring in two players who should bring real quality to the Championship.
David Bentley and Henri Lansbury have both joined the club in season-long
loans.

Lansbury spent much of last season on loan at Norwich City, helping the club
win promotion to the Premier League. There were rumours that Lansbury might
be set for a permanent switch to Norfolk, but it is unclear if Arsenal would
be prepared to sell the player at this stage.

In a way, it is interesting that Lansbury has been allowed to leave Arsenal
at all, considering Arsene Wenger had said that the player would get a
chance in the first team this season. Lansbury has also made appearances for
Arsenal from the bench already in the Premier League this season. But it
seems that it has been decided that Lansbury's further education is best
served by playing more regularly in the Championship.

West Ham will be getting a player that is technically very good, with great
vision and passing ability to create chances for his new teammates. Lansbury
also likes to get forward, and has a tendency to score goals himself. He
also has a fantastic engine and work rate, which is sure to make him a fan
favourite this season.

David Bentley's career has been going down the toilet at Tottenham, so he
needed to get out and play some football. If the player can recapture the
form that he showed at Blackburn after leaving Arsenal, then West Ham should
create plenty of chances.

Clearly, losing the services of Scott Parker is disappointing. However, the
England midfielder was never going to put up with playing Championship
football. West Ham fans should look to the future and remember that the club
could well be back in the Premier League next season. There is no reason why
Lansbury and Bentley can't become permanent additions to the squad.

Overall, even though Parker has now gone, the West Ham squad looks in good
shape and the club is clearly in a good position to gain automatic promotion
this season. It's also good to see a number of English players in the squad,
and that should put the Hammers in good stead when the club is back in the
Premier League. With the move to the Olympic Stadium and an experienced
manager at the helm, things are going to get a lot better.

Sam Allardyce, the manager's view: Avoid the sacking buy and it can be a
good day
By SAM ALLARDYCE
Last updated at 1:27 AM on 1st September 2011
Daily Mail

Manager's in my position dread the final few days of the transfer window. It
is the fear of losing one of your best players, and losing them so late in
the day that it becomes difficult to find a replacement. In the end, this
transfer deadline day went well for us at West Ham United. We've obviously
known for some time that Scott Parker could be moving on. He's 30 years old
and he feared he could lose his England place if he did not play in the
Barclays Premier League this season. But we managed to respond by bringing
in three good players — an experienced performer in Papa Bouba Diop,
someone involved in Norwich City's promotion last season in Henri Lansbury,
and David Bentley. If we can get Bentley back to the level he has reached in
the past, he will be an exciting signing. For other managers, though, I'm
sure it was more frustrating. They might now be staring at gaping holes in
their squad, forcing them into a major rethink after months of hard work.
This is the problem with the transfer window. It is hugely disruptive and a
massive distraction. But I can't see a solution. Bringing the transfer
window forward and closing it a month earlier would create new problems.

A club like West Ham might release players at the end of May but we'll still
be paying their wages until the end of July, so my finance director will be
reluctant to let me bring in many new players until those leaving are off
the wage bill. I just see it as a fact of life. It makes the job harder but
you have to deal with it, buy well and avoid a panic buy that becomes a
sacking buy. One that haunts you.

Sam Allardyce has donated his fee for this article to the Sir Bobby Robson
Foundation.

West Ham snap up Hamburg's Demel on two-year deal

West Ham have signed Guy Demel on a two-year deal from Hamburg for an
undisclosed fee. The 30-year-old right-sided player, who can play in defence
or midfield, has the option of a further 12 months at Upton Park should he
impress. He said: 'I want to help the team go back to the Premier League.
This is my goal. 'I have some friends here already like Freddie Piquionne
and Carlton Cole, and London is a great city. I am very happy to be here. 'I
had 10 years in Germany and I won the title. But it is time for a change and
to show what I can do in another country. I will do my best.' The Hammers
have signed Henri Lansbury and David Bentley on loan from Arsenal and
Tottenham respectively and Papa Bouba Diop on a free transfer in the last
two days. The Hammers have moved for Lansbury, 20, after Scott Parker
completed his protracted transfer to Tottenham. England Under-21
international Lansbury wants regular first-team football having failed to
make the breakthrough with Arsenal. Bentley, 27, spent the latter part of
last season on loan at Birmingham.

Hammers land Lansbury
WHUFC.com
West Ham United have snapped up England U21 midfielder Henri Lansbury on a
season-long loan
31.08.2011

West Ham United are pleased to announce the signing of England Under-21
midfielder Henri Lansbury. The highly-rated 20-year-old has joined the
Hammers on a season-long loan from Arsenal, having helped Norwich City to
win promotion to the Premier League last season. Hammers fans should get the
chance to run the rule over Lansbury on Thursday evening when the Young
Lions play Azerbaijan in a UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier at
Watford. Lansbury is not due to arrive at Chadwell Heath until after England
welcome Israel to Barnsley next Monday. Capped nine times at U21 level, the
6'0 tall Lansbury is a creative midfielder with an eye for goal, having
netted 14 times in 86 career appearances. Born in Enfield, north London, in
October 1990, Lansbury was on the books of Norwich as a young schoolboy
before moving to Arsenal at the age of eight in 1999. The player came
through the ranks of the Gunners Academy, winning the FA Premier Academy
League and FA Youth Cup double in 2009 in a team that also featured the
likes of Jack Wilshere, Emmanuel Frimpong and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.
Lansbury's promise saw manager Arsene Wenger hand him a first-team debut in
the 6-0 Carling Cup third-round victory over Sheffield United at the
Emirates on 23 September 2008. He would subsequently feature in the fourth
and fifth-round ties against Wigan Athletic and Burnley respectively. Still
only 18, Lansbury was loaned to League One side Scunthorpe United in January
2009 and responded by scoring on his Football League debut against Swindon
Town and netting four goals in 16 appearances in total. He also appeared in
the Football League Trophy final at Wembley during his time with the Iron.
Further successful loan spells at Watford (five goals in 39 appearances) and
Norwich (four goals in 23 appearances) helped the midfielder to secure a
place in England's squad for the 2011 UEFA European U21 Championship finals
in Denmark, featuring three times as a substitute.

Lansbury's selection completed a personal hat-trick, as he had previously
appeared for his country at the UEFA European U17 and U19 Championship
finals in 2007 and 2009 respectively, finishing as a runner-up on both
occasions. The youngster has featured twice for Arsenal in the Premier
League this season, appearing as a late substitute against both Liverpool
and Manchester United.

Stanislas departs

Junior Stanislas has left the Hammers for fellow npower Championship club
Burnley
31.08.2011

West Ham United can confirm that Junior Stanislas has joined fellow npower
Championship club Burnley on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee. The
21-year-old joined the Hammers at the age of ten before making his
first-team debut in a goalless Premier League draw with West Bromwich Albion
at the Boleyn Ground on 16 March 2009. Having scored his first goal for the
club in a home Premier League win over Middlesbrough in May 2009, Stanislas
went on to net twice in a Carling Cup second-round win over Millwall three
months later. Last season, he scored in a 1-1 Premier League draw at
Blackburn Rovers before Christmas, only to be ruled out for the remainder of
the season with a hernia problem. Earlier this month, the midfielder marked
his final appearance for the club by scoring in the Carling Cup first-round
defeat by Aldershot Town. In total, the Kidbrooke-born player made 47
appearances for the Hammers in all competitions, scoring eight goals.
Stanislas also earned international honours during his time at the Boleyn
Ground, appearing for England at U19, U20 and U21 levels. He becomes the
second Academy graduate to join Burnley this month, following Zavon Hines,
who linked up with the Clarets on 18 August. All at West Ham would like to
wish Junior well for the future.

Hammers grab Guy
WHUFC.com
Ivory Coast international Guy Demel has become West Ham United's 12th summer
signing
31.08.2011

West Ham United are delighted to announce the signing of Ivory Coast
international Guy Demel from Hamburger SV. The powerful right-sided player,
who is comfortable across the defence or in midfield, has linked up with the
Hammers on a two-year contract with an option for a further 12 months. He
had been courted by several clubs across Europe, including Premier League
sides, but was attracted to the ambition at the Boleyn Ground. Demel, a
French citizen born in the Paris suburb of Orsay, has played at the highest
level in the German Bundesliga for the past decade, spending four seasons
with Borussia Dortmund before moving to Hamburg in 2005.

A seasoned international, the 6'2 player has been capped 26 times at senior
level and appeared twice at the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals. He also played
at the Boleyn for his country a year ago this month, providing the assist
for Kolo Toure to score the winner in a friendly victory against Italy.
Speaking exclusively to whufc.com, the 30-year-old said: "I am very excited
to join West Ham. I want to help the team go back to the Premier League.
This is my goal. I have some friends here already like Freddie Piquionne and
Carlton Cole, and London is a great city. I am very happy to be here. I know
the players here want the same as me. Everyone is determined to make it a
successful season and this is a great opportunity. "I had ten years in
Germany and I won the title. But it is time to change and show what I can do
in another country. I will do my best. "It is a good stadium and I am also
looking forward to the future. I would like to go to the new stadium with
West Ham. Something big is happening here and I want to be a part of an
exciting time in the club's history. I know the fans are very passionate."

Born and raised in France, Demel began his professional career with Ligue 2
club Nimes Olympique, making one league appearance before being snapped up
by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in 2000. The player spent a single season
with the Gunners before heading for German giants Borussia Dortmund, where
he won the Bundesliga title and reached the UEFA Cup final in his first
season at the club. Demel would make 41 first-team appearances over four
seasons at Signal Iduna Park - including one in both the UEFA Champions
League and UEFA Cup - plus 27 more for Borussia Dortmund II. In 2005,
Hamburger SV took Demel to the Imtech Arena and he quickly established
himself as a first-team regular, appearing at both right-back, on the right
wing or in a central defensive midfield role. In all competitions, the
Ivorian would make 199 appearances, including an impressive 52 in European
competitions, scoring four goals. Hamburger SV finished in the top-eight of
the Bundesliga in each of Demel's six seasons at the club, helping them to
compete in the UEFA Cup, UEFA Europa League and the 2006/07 UEFA Champions
League.

At international level, Demel was in the Ivory Coast squad for the 2006 FIFA
World Cup, but he did not play. However, he was involved as the Elephants
finished as runners-up at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations earlier the same
year. After appearing at the 2008 CAF Africa Cup of Nations, Demel was
called-up for the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa, starting the
group-stage fixtures against Brazil and Portugal. Demel becomes Sam
Allardyce's 12th summer signing following the captures of Abdoulaye Faye,
Kevin Nolan, Joey O'Brien, Matt Taylor, George McCartney, John Carew, Sam
Baldock, Brian Montenegro, Papa Bouba Diop, David Bentley and Henri
Lansbury.

Big Sam bags Bentley
Winger links up with West Ham on season-long loan

West Ham have confirmed that Tottenham winger David Bentley has joined the
club on a season-long loan. The Spurs winger has endured a torrid time over
recent seasons, with an alarming dip in form seeing him slip out of the
spotlight. Once billed as the natural successor to David Beckham on the
right side of England's midfield, Bentley has tumbled out of the
international picture. A move to Spurs in July 2008 was supposed to see him
take his game to a new level, but he has gone slowly backwards. A loan
stint at Birmingham last season did not go to plan either, as the Blues were
relegated out of the Premier League.

Addition

Bentley is, however, determined to recapture his best form and hopes a spell
in the Championship with West Ham will allow him to starting heading in the
right direction once again. The Hammers are delighted to welcome the
27-year-old to Upton Park and expect him to make his bow in their next
second tier fixture. A statement released on the club's official website
read: "West Ham are delighted to announce that England midfielder David
Bentley has joined the club on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
"Bentley is the latest addition to a strong Hammers midfield already
boasting the likes of summer recruits Kevin Nolan, Matt Taylor and Papa
Bouba Diop, as well as home-grown duo Mark Noble and Jack Collison. "The
club's tenth recruit this transfer window is due to train with his new
team-mates for the first time on Thursday, and will hope to make his debut
at home to Portsmouth on Saturday week."

having completed a transfer from SV Hamburg earlier this evening.
French-born Demel - who played twice for his adopted country, the Ivory

before moving to Arsenal in 2000. However after just a year in London he
moved to Borussia Dortmund in Germany, citing 'homesickness' at the reason
for his sudden switch. Although he hasn't played in England since leaving
Arsenal in 2001, Demel - who can play across the back four and on the right

from Germany to meet friends, including international team mates Didier

Baldock settling in
WHUFC.com
The club's new No7 is finally up and running with his new West Ham United
team-mates
31.08.2011

Sam Baldock is determined to play his part in shooting West Ham United back
to the Premier League at the earliest opportunity. The No7 met his new
team-mates this week, having sat out Sunday's emphatic victory away at
Nottingham Forest after finalising his transfer too late to be involved. The
striker, with four goals in four league games for MK Dons this season, is
hoping to make his Hammers debut at home to Portsmouth on Saturday week. "It
is going to be a couple of weeks before I can play but I am really excited.
I have played six games already this season and started quite well. I just
want to get going as out on the pitch is where I enjoy being."

Although eager to start, Baldock admitted the international break was
"ideal" in terms of helping him to settle in. " I don't know any of the
players personally so I get to bed in and introduce myself to them. They
will try and figure out how I like to play and hopefully we will hit it off.
"They are massive names. It is a real Premier League-standard squad so I am
looking forward to it. I am only 22 so I am looking to learn as well. "

When asked to explain his playing style, Baldock said: "I think I can offer
something different to what is already in the squad. I am quite direct, I
like to score goals. I really enjoy scoring goals. I work quite hard and I
will put a shift in. I like to win as well."

Baldock was watched doing just that on two occasions before signing by Sam
Allardyce, scoring a hat-trick and a goal against Norwich City. "I hope he
doesn't expect that every week," he said with a smile when asked about the
pressure of knowing he was being watched. "Obviously having someone like Sam
Allardyce come to watch you, you are trying to impress. I am glad I did so.
I don't think any footballer can say they think about anything when they are
on the pitch. You try to block everything out and just focus on the game and
that is what I tried to do. He is delighted to have been given the No7
shirt. "It is a number I had as a youngster. At Milton Keynes they showed me
a lot of faith in giving me the No10, which is more traditionally a
striker's shirt but I was always seven as a youngster. I like it. It is a
good number at any club."

Regardless of the number on his back, Baldock just wants to experience the
buzz of running out at the Boleyn. "Everyone who knows about football, knows
about the tradition, about the fans. It is going to be massive to wear the
badge and play in front of that crowd. "I think we have got a great chance
of getting back to the Premier League. Everything about the club is so
ambitious. It is a Premier League standard stadium, a Premier League
standard squad. All we have got to do now is put the performances and the
results together and get up there. With the manager and the coaching staff
that I have met and spoken to I don't think that will be too much of a
problem."

Bentley signs

England midfielder David Bentley has joined the club on a season-long loan
from Tottenham Hotspur
31.08.2011

West Ham United are delighted to announce that England midfielder David
Bentley has joined the club on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
Bentley, who turned 27 last Saturday, is the latest addition to a strong
Hammers midfield already boasting the likes of summer recruits Kevin Nolan,
Matt Taylor and Papa Bouba Diop, as well as homegrown duo Mark Noble and
Jack Collison. The club's tenth recruit this transfer window is due to train
with his new team-mates for the first time on Thursday, and will hope to
make his debut in the Kids for a Quid match at home to Portsmouth on
Saturday week.

Bentley came through the Academy ranks at Arsenal, making his debut at the
age of 18 in an FA Cup third-round victory over Oxford United in January
2003.
A productive season on loan at Norwich City in 2004/05 saw him play
alongside Robert Green and win the Championship title before he left the
Gunners for Blackburn Rovers in pursuit of regular first-team football in
August 2005. Bentley announced himself on the national stage by scoring a
hat-trick in a 4-3 Premier League win over Manchester United in February
2006, helping Rovers to finish sixth in the table and qualify for the UEFA
Cup. After impressing in the UEFA Cup and helping Blackburn to a
seventh-place finish in 2007/08, Bentley was voted the club's Player of the
Year before moving to Tottenham Hotspur for £15m in July 2008. Blessed with
outstanding technique, superb delivery from set pieces and an eye for the
spectacular, Bentley continued to catch the eye during a two-and-a-half year
spell at White Hart Lane before being loaned to Birmingham City in January
2011. At international level, Bentley has represented England at U16, U18,
U21, B and senior levels, making his debut in a 3-0 2008 UEFA European
Championship qualifying victory over Israel at Wembley in September 2007. He
has been capped seven times in total.

Hammers fans should stand by for further transfer updates ahead of the 11pm
deadline this evening. Club officials are working on a number of targets
identified by Sam Allardyce and any deals done will be officially confirmed
first and fastest on whufc.com. West Ham United have already signed ten new
players this summer to help give the team the best possible chance of
returning to the Premier League at the first opportunity. Any new faces
could join Bentley, Sam Baldock and Papa Bouba Diop in hoping to make their
debuts in the Kids for a Quid home match against Portsmouth on Saturday
week.

Jordan Brown has joined League Two club Aldershot Town on a month-long loan

West Ham United youngster Jordan Brown has joined League Two challengers
Aldershot Town on a month-long loan. The 19-year-old is highly rated at the
Boleyn Ground and joined the first-team squad at their pre-season training
camp in Switzerland in July. There, Brown appeared in the pre-season matches
against FC Basel and BSC Young Boys, while he also featured against FC
Copenhagen, Wycombe Wanderers and Dagenham & Redbridge. Brown, who joined
the Hammers as a schoolboy, graduated from the Academy in summer 2010,
having been appointed as youth-team captain during the second year of his
scholarship. After making seven Barclays Premier Reserve League appearances
in 2010/11, a thigh injury hindered Brown's progress in early 2011, but he
returned in a post-season friendly at Tottenham Hotspur in May and starred
in the development squad's 3-1 win over Brentford earlier this week. Brown
could make his debut for West Ham's Carling Cup conquerors in The Shots'
League Two home fixture against Cheltenham Town on Saturday afternoon.
Having overcome Carlisle United in the Carling Cup second round on Tuesday
evening, Dean Holdsworth's side will also host Rochdale in the third round
on Wednesday 21 September.

Brown joins Ahmed Abdulla (Swindon Town), Pablo Barrera (Real Zaragoza),
Jordan Spence (Bristol City), Cristian Montano (Notts County) and Olly Lee
(Dagenham & Redbridge) in leaving the Boleyn Ground on a temporary basis
this summer.

converted into a deep-lying or attacking central midfielder during the
2010/11 season. Abdulla made a club-high 17 Barclays Premier Reserve League
appearances in 2010/11, scoring one goal - a penalty in a 4-1 defeat at his
former club. He has featured regularly for the development squad in recent
weeks, appearing in all eight matches played by Ian Hendon's side so far
this season. Abdulla becomes the fifth Hammer to go out on loan this summer,
joining Pablo Barrera (Real Zaragoza), Jordan Spence (Bristol City),
Cristian Montano (Notts County) and Olly Lee (Dagenham & Redbridge).

'The pressure was on me'
WHUFC.com
Development squad coach Ian Hendon was relieved to record a win to complete
a perfect few days
31.08.2011

Ian Hendon was breathing a sigh of relief after his development squad
completed a perfect few days for West Ham United. The Hammers' first-team,
youth, schoolboy and Ladies sides all secured victories at the weekend,
leaving Hendon sweating ahead of Tuesday's visit of a Brentford XI to Little
Heath. Thankfully for the development squad coach, Robert Hall scored twice
and Freddie Sears once in convincing a 3-1 win that featured debutant Papa
Bouba Diop. "I think the pressure was on me a bit because the Under-16s and
Under-18s won up at Sunderland on Saturday and the first team won at Forest
on Sunday, so thankfully we got a win to top it all!" Hendon told West Ham
TV. "Coming into this little break, everybody has had a good win and it
freshens everybody up and gets them ready to go into the next game."

Hendon was particularly pleased with the positive mental approach taken to
the game by a Hammers side that included Abdoulaye Faye and a host of the
clubs young professionals and promising scholars. "I've watched a lot of
reserve-team football over the years, having been a manager myself in the
league, and you go to watch a lot of reserve games and they are non-events.
"We've got young players here and we've got to get them that winning
mentality because winning is everything. If they step up or go out on loan,
it's all about winning points on a Saturday afternoon or a Tuesday night so
the quicker they get that mentality into their make-up and it meaning
something to win football matches, the better they will be for that."

Bouba Diop was singled out for praise by the 39-year-old, who believes the
powerhouse Senegal midfielder will bring a great deal of quality and
experience to Sam Allardyce's squad. "I thought he was outstanding in there.
He's a big strong lad who is good on the ball for his size. He's been
training with me for a couple of days and he looks, as we know he is, a very
good player. "He's a good lad and I'm glad he's come on board."

At the other end of the age-scale, Hendon was also effusive when asked about
the impact made by 17-year-old Hall. The England Under-18 forward netted two
outstanding goals - the first from the corner of the penalty area and the
second direct from a free-kick. "They are becoming a bit of a trademark for
him at a young age. He keeps coming in from the right on his left foot and
finding that far corner. "He's a talented player - we know that - and I'm
sure he's going to be exciting moving forward."

Hall is just one of a host of young players whose presence at the club has
Hendon feeling positive about the future. Scholars Danny Potts, Blair
Turgott and Elliot Lee were given a 25-minute run out and responded by
adding energy and cutting-edge to the Hammers' play in the closing stages.
"The younger lads have come on, especially the lads who have come up from
the youth team, and they're eager and want to impress. "They have come on
and they want to chase and harry the opposition and that's exactly what they
did do. I think Elliot Lee has come on and, on another day, might have got
two goals himself through his eagerness to get into the box and score goals.
"Blair Turgott came on as well and worked his socks off, while Danny Potts
has come on and played like a marauding left winger, making runs forward and
getting into their box. "It bodes well. We've got a lot of good young
players and it's my job to help bring them through alongside what Tony Carr
and Nick Haycock are doing."

Parker departs
WHUFC.com
The club have reluctantly agreed to the transfer of Scott Parker to
Tottenham Hotspur
31.08.2011

West Ham United can confirm the club have reached an agreement with
Tottenham Hotspur for the transfer of Scott Parker. The midfielder has moved
to White Hart Lane after handing in an official written transfer request on
Tuesday night, despite the best attempts of the Board and management to
retain his services. Parker, who turns 31 in October, played 129 times for
the Hammers following his arrival from Newcastle United in summer 2007,
scoring 12 goals. The midfielder also forced his way back into the senior
England squad in February this year due to his form in a claret and blue
shirt, which saw him named Hammer of the Year three years running and the
FWA Player of the Year. West Ham United would like to place on record their
thanks for Scott's efforts and wish him well for the future. Meanwhile, the
club continue to be active in the transfer market with nine new recruits
already heading into the Boleyn Ground. The summer spending has seen
Abdoulaye Faye, Kevin Nolan, Joey O'Brien, Matt Taylor, John Carew, George
McCartney, Sam Baldock, Brian Montenegro and Papa Bouba Diop arrive so far.

McCartney eyes rare goal
WHUFC.com
George McCartney is eager to join his fellow defenders by getting his name
on the scoresheet soon
31.08.2011

It seems like a defender scores in every game West Ham United play these
days. Joey O'Brien and James Tomkins were both on target at Watford, while
Winston Reid bagged his first of the season at Nottingham Forest on Sunday -
not to mention the own-goals scored by Leeds United centre-back Patrick
Kisnorbo and Forest captain Luke Chambers. With stoppers turning into
strikers everywhere he looks, George McCartney - who has netted just twice
in nearly 350 career appearances for club and country - is understandably
eager to join the goal-scoring party. "A goal would be nice and there is a
bit of pressure on me now!" he told West Ham TV. "Seriously, though, I'll
leave scoring the goals to the strikers and hopefully if I can chip in at
some time during the season then I'll be happy."

While getting his name on the scoresheet is an ambition of McCartney's, the
No3 knows his defensive duties come first. As such, the 30-year-old has been
pleased with how quickly he has settled into a back four that has looked
solid and assured in recent matches - most notably in the away victories at
Doncaster Rovers, Watford and Forest. McCartney is hoping the Hammers can
replicate their near-perfect away form at the Boleyn Ground, starting with
the visit of Portsmouth. "I think the expectation level home and away is
high, but it's been a few months since the last home win. I'm sure we'll put
that right over the next few weeks and give the fans something to cheer
about. "It was great at Forest. I have been at the club before and I know
how good the support is, so it was great to go to somewhere like Forest and
know we had scored four goals and sent our fans home happy. I'm sure they
enjoyed the trip back down the motorway!"

Having made such a positive start to his season-long loan from Sunderland,
the left-back himself is desperate to keep his place in the starting XI for
that Saturday 10 September fixture - after enjoying a well-earned two-day
rest during the current international break. "It's down to the manager to
pick the team but all I can do is try my best every week, stay fit, work
hard in training and hopefully when it comes to the games I can apply myself
right and stay in the team and we can keep winning.
"In the Championship, we have 46 games and it's a tough season, so when the
breaks come it's good for the whole squad to get a few days off and
re-charge the batteries."

Sam hails Papa arrival
WHUFC.com
The manager is pleased to finally get his man after tracking Papa Bouba Diop
this summer
31.08.2011

Sam Allardyce has hailed the arrival of Papa Bouba Diop at West Ham United.
The manager had to wait to get his man after a successful trial in the last
two weeks, with a work permit hearing unable to be held until Tuesday
afternoon. Allardyce attended in person to make sure he got the FIFA World
Cup star, who has just come off the back of a hugely successful season with
Greek side AEK Athens, and had been waiting patiently to seal the move. With
centre-backs Winston Reid, 23, and James Tomkins, 22, at the heart of his
defence, as well as the likes of the youthful Mark Noble and Jack Collison
in midfield, the manager felt he needed to add extra experience and steel to
his squad. "I am sure Papa will be familiar to most West Ham fans after his
years at Portsmouth and Fulham in the Premier League," said Allardyce. "He
has just completed a very good season at AEK Athens and wanted to get back
and play in England. We were very fortunate to get him and he will bring in
an added value to the squad. "He played 37 games last season for AEK, as
they won the cup and finished high enough in the league to qualify for
Europe again. He has appeared in two FA Cup finals - once as a winner - and
I see him as a tremendous asset to the squad and to the team. He is a very
good all-round midfield player and one that will be of great value of us."

whufc.com will be the place to be today for all the transfer latest with the
club looking to add to the nine new faces already at the Boleyn Ground -
although Championship clubs can take advantage of the loan window when it
reopens next month. Return throughout the day to see all the official news
first and fastest.

cover for the suspended Anthony Straker for Saturday's home game with
Cheltenham in League Two. "I'd like to thank Sam and West Ham United for
helping me to secure this loan signing," boss Dean Holdsworth told the club

Brown is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Hammers.

Scott Parker completes Tottenham move

BBC.co.uk

Tottenham have have signed England midfielder Scott Parker from West Ham for
a fee of about £5m. The move comes after the 30-year-old handed in a
transfer request on Tuesday, stating that he wished to play in the Premier
League. Parker's switch across London is likely to trigger Wilson Palacios
joining Stoke City. Spurs have also announced that winger David Bentley will
join the Hammers on a season-long loan. Parker, who joined West Ham from
Newcastle for £7m in 2007, was named Football Writers' Association
Footballer of the Year last season despite the club finishing bottom of the
Premier League. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said of Parker: "He's a good
player. I think he's what we need. He's a good lad, great attitude.
"Footballer of the Year last year and he'll be a good addition for this team
- no doubt about that. "He's a good character, a fantastic person, a proper
family man, a real good pro. He'll be great around the place for us."

West Ham said they "reluctantly" agreed to the deal, despite their best
attempts to keep him at Upton Park. On the Hammers website, the club said:
"West Ham United would like to place on record their thanks for Scott's
efforts and wish him well for the future." Bentley, who joined Spurs in July
2008 from Blackburn joins West Ham having made 62 appearances at White Hart
Lane and scoring six times. The out-of-favour midfielder spent the second
half of last season on loan at Birmingham, clocking up 15 appearances.
Meanwhile, the Hammers boss Sam Allardyce took his summer tally to 11
signings with the arrivals of Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury, 20, on an
initial season-long loan. The England Under-21 international wants regular
first-team football having failed to make the breakthrough with Arsenal. He
played 23 games on loan with Norwich last season as the Canaries earned
promotion to the Premier League.

Parker deal confirmed

Tottenham have announced that they have signed Scott Parker from West Ham
United. The England midfielder, 31 in a few weeks, has completed his moved
across London having submitted a transfer request - which was subsequently
accepted by West Ham - some 48 hours ago. A brief statement published on
Tottenham's website this afternoon read simply: "We are delighted to
announce that we have reached agreement with West Ham United for the
permanent transfer of Scott Parker."

West Ham United responded by stating that they had tried their best to
retain the England midfielder's services, despite David Gold having stated
back in May that the club would have to part with Parker were the club to be
relegated. "The midfielder has moved to White Hart Lane after handing in an
official written transfer request on Tuesday night, despite the best
attempts of the Board and management to retain his services," read a
statement posted on whufc.com this afternoon. Neither club have mentioned
the fee in their respective messages although Parker is thought to have cost
Hotspur circa £5million - nearly 40 per cent less than the £8million West
Ham's board has insisted they would hold out for. However Parker's decision
to agree to waive a signing on fee, image rights and other fees due are
thought to have saved West Ham up to an additional £2million. Usually at
this point KUMB.com would wish the outgoing player the very best of luck at
his new club - but given the circumstances surrounding the Olympic Stadium
and Tottenham's subsequent appalling behaviour, we simply thank Parker for
his service during his time at the Boleyn.

Demel on his way?

West Ham are hoping to clinch the signing of French-based right-sided player
Guy Demel ahead of tonight's 11pm transfer deadline. United are understood
to have turned their attention to the 30-year-old former Arsenal player
having been further frustrated in their attempts to sign striker Eric
Mouloungui from Nice within the last 12 hours. Demel will be no stranger to
regular readers of KUMB.com, for he was linked with a move to Avram Grant's
side a year ago today. The right-back - who, like Julien Faubert can also
operate on the right wing - currently plys his trade at Hamburg. He has
made in excess of 100 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit and is available
at a knock-down fee. French-born Demel - who played twice for his adopted
country, the Ivory Coast, at last summer's World Cup Finals - began his
career with Nimes before moving to Arsenal in 2000. However after just a
year in London he moved to Borussia Dortmund in Germany, citing
'homesickness' at the reason for his sudden switch.

In other news, Herita Ilunga looks likely to complete a loan move to Celtic,
whilst Arsenal's Henri Lansbury looks likely to complete a similar deal in
reverse.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is keen to bolster his squad before the transfer

a short spell at Arsenal earlier in his career and it now looks like he will
have a second crack at life in England.

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of long-term target Scott
Parker from West Ham United. Scott Parker is 20/1 to be named the Football
Writers' Association Footballer of the Year for a second successive season.
Bet here. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has been tracking Parker all summer and
he has now landed his man after a protracted chase for the England
international. The 30-year-old was not included in the West Ham squad for
last weekend's win at Nottingham Forest as the deal drew ever closer. Parker
handed in a transfer request at Upton Park on Tuesday in a bid to force
through the move to White Hart Lane and both clubs have now finalised the
switch. Midfield dynamo Parker has been linked with a transfer ever since
the Hammers suffered relegation last season and Premier League new boys
Queens Park Rangers saw a £4million bid turned down for the player earlier
this month, while the likes of Stoke and Aston Villa have also been credited
with an interest in the former Chelsea man. However, Parker was always
thought to be holding out for a move to Tottenham as he preferred to stay in
London. A Tottenham statement read: "We are delighted to announce that we
have reached agreement with West Ham United for the permanent transfer of
Scott Parker."

Following the departure of Scott Parker to Tottenham, West Ham have landed
Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury on a season-long loan. The Hammers have
moved quickly to strengthen in the middle of the park after seeing an
influential figure head for the exits. Shortly after it emerged that Parker
had handed in a transfer request at Upton Park, on Tuesday evening, West Ham
announced that Papa Bouba Diop had signed on. Now, the club have added
Gunners starlet Lansbury to their Championship promotion push.

Productive

The 20-year-old has taken in spells with Scunthorpe and Watford in the
recent past, while he helped Norwich into the Premier League during a
productive loan spell last season. He returned to the Emirates over the
summer and has been involved in Arsene Wenger's first-team plans, figuring
in Arsenal's 8-2 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday. The Gunners are,
however, unable to offer him a regular role at present and he has again
opted to take in a short-term spell elsewhere. The England U21 international
becomes Sam Allardyce's 10th signing since taking the reins at Upton Park
over the summer.
