Reo-Coker demands Upton Park exit - BBC

West Ham captain Nigel Reo-Coker has handed in a transfer request, according
to the player's advisor. Hammers boss Alan Curbishley has told the
23-year-old midfielder he will listen to offers in the region of £8m.
Reo-Coker's advisor Tony Finnigan said: "I can confirm that Nigel has handed
in a transfer request. I am surprised as captain he is being allowed to
leave. "At the end of the day he never felt wanted but I am sure he will
have a bright future elsewhere."
Reo-Coker joined West Ham from Wimbledon in January 2004. Tottenham,
Arsenal, Aston Villa and Newcastle are expected to join the race to sign the
England Under-21 international.

Club captain Nigel Reo-Coker has handed in a transfer request, it has been
confirmed this afternoon. Reo-Coker's agent, Tony Finnigan, confirmed that
he had become the third player to ask for a move since United's Premiership
place was assured a fortnight ago, following the recent requests by Paul
Konchesky and John Paintsil.
Talking to SkySports, Finnigan said: I can confirm that Nigel has officially
handed in a transfer request. He hopes his future will be resolved in the
next few weeks. "As I said on Sky Sports in January, Nigel would get his
head down and work to keep West Ham in the Premiership. That is exactly what
he did.
"At the end of the day he never felt wanted but I am sure he will have a
bright future elsewhere - although I am surprised that a 22-year-old
Londoner who is captain of his club is being allowed to leave."

Reo-Coker's last 12 months at Upton Park have been little short of a
disaster. He first fell foul of the club's supporters when cupping his hand
to his ears after prodding home the winning goal against Manchester United -
an action deemed as a direct attack on fans who had criticised him
(justifiably) for his awful early-season form. In October it was confirmed
that an August deadline-day transfer enquiry from an unnamed club had been
rejected by the Hammers without Reo-Coker being notified - thought by many
to be the root of his issues. In December the odious Finnigan claimed that
Reo-Coker had received hate mail from United fans - a charge which was
subsequently amended to refer to one letter the player had received via the
Chadwell Heath training ground mail.
Some weeks later Finnigan claimed that the England under-21 captain had been
the victim of racist abuse from home fans - once again, a claim without any
evidence.
Most recently Reo-Coker laughed when asked by the BBC whether he would be
playing for West Ham in the 07/08 before claiming that he had saved the club
from relegation; a step too far for many United supporters who by now had
simply had enough of the antics of Reo-Coker and his unscrupulous
representative.

Green light for Robert - KUMB

By: Gordon Thrower

Hammers' 'keeper Robert Green has been named in the England squad for the
forthcoming friendly against Brazil and for the Euro 2008 qualifier against
Estonia. Green was an unused substitute in the recent 3-1 "B" international
victory over Albania and the selection marks the end of a fine few months
for the custodian, whose form in the run-in was particularly inspired.
Amazingly, at the turn of the year Green was only no.2 choice between the
sticks for the Hammers. The last Hammer to make the England squad was Dean
Ashton whose unfortunate training ground injury led to his missing the whole
of the 2006/07 season. Thankfully Shaun Wright-Phillips has not made the
squad this time round. Some bloke called Beckham has also been included.

Full England squad

Paul Robinson (Tottenham), Scott Carson (Liverpool), Robert Green (West Ham
United); Phil Neville (Everton), Rio Ferdinand (ex-WHU), John Terry
(ex-WHU), Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), Wes Brown (Man Utd), Jamie Carragher

One of the papers today reckons Derby are about to sign Calym Davenport for

million for him. I have always rated him and think he will be a major asset
for us. OK, he didn't set us alight but he didn't let us down either. We'd
be mad to sell him for £1 million.

League to take Blades share - teamTalk

The Premier League have told Sheffield United their share in the top flight
will be taken from them if they fail to relinquish it voluntarily. Relegated
United are refusing to relinquish their Premiership share as the Carlos
Tevez saga rumbles on. However, Premier League officials have said if the
Blades maintain their stance their share will be taken from them next week.
"If Sheffield United do not return the share, Premier League rules mean that
it will be unilaterally transferred to a promoted club and this will happen
at our AGM this coming Thursday," said a Premier League spokesman. The
Premier League this week agreed to set up an arbitration tribunal to rule on
United's complaints over the Tevez affair. They have conceded the Blades do
have the right to call for an arbitration panel - but told the relegated
club they are wasting their time and money. The Blades, relegated on the
final day of the season after a home defeat to Wigan, responded today by
refusing to return their share of the Premier League which all top flight
clubs are entitled to. "Sheffield United has confirmed that it has refused a
request by the Premier League to deliver up its share in the Premier
League," said a club statement. "All Premier League clubs are entitled to a
share in the League itself, and Sheffield United's position is that until
the arbitration looking into the Tevez matter is resolved, it remains a
Premiership club. The club believes if it gives up its share the Premier
League cannot be guaranteed to fulfil its promise to return the share should
the arbitration reinstate Sheffield United to the Premier League."
The row is over an independent commission's decision to fine West Ham
£5.5million rather than dock the club points for signing third-party
agreements in contravention of league rules. The Premier League say they are
satisfied West Ham ended those agreements as soon as they were ordered to
so, and that the independent commission's decision cannot be appealed
against by anyone except West Ham.

Reo wants out of Hammers - The Sun
By ANDREW DILLON
May 26, 2007

NIGEL REO-COKER has handed in a transfer request at West Ham. The Hammers
skipper was told last night he has no future in east London. And Reo-Coker's
agent Tony Finnigan confirmed his client has asked to leave. He said: "I can
confirm that Nigel Reo-Coker has officially handed in a transfer request.
"I am surprised that a Londoner who is captain of his club is being allowed
to leave. "At the end of the day he never felt wanted but I am sure he will
have a bright future elsewhere."
Reo-Coker will be allowed to leave as long as any buyer meets the £8million
asking price. Boss Alan Curbishley is leading his clearout by axeing the
team captain in a show of strength. A host of players are expected to follow
with keeper Roy Carroll, left-back Paul Konchesky and right-back John
Pantsil already told they can go. Hayden Mullins is one of several targets
for Premiership rivals Reading, Striker Teddy Sheringham, 41, has already
left the Hammers, who are now tracking Liverpool's Craig Bellamy, 27. But
they will have to cough up £12m to make Kop boss Rafa Benitez let him leave
Anfield. Aston Villa are also in the hunt but West Ham seem to hold the
upper hand especially if Bellamy could be used as a makeweight should
Liverpool firm up their interest in Hammers hitman Carlos Tevez. Definitely
staying at Upton Park is Israel midfielder Yossi Benayoun, 27. He has just
signed a five-year contract.
ROB GREEN is set to be rewarded with a new deal at West Ham. The England
keeper, 27, helped Hammers beat the drop with five clean sheets in their
last eight games. Green has three years left on his current deal following
his £2million move from Norwich in August. Fellow stopper Roy Carroll, 29,
has been given a free transfer after asking to leave Upton Park.

Hammers must get Viduka - news.com.au
By David Davutovic
May 27, 2007 12:00

LUCAS Neill is desperate to lure Socceroos team-mate Mark Viduka to West Ham
as the tug of war for the Middlesbrough striker intensifies. The Sunday
Telegraph understands Viduka has been tabled a lucrative deal from the
Hammers in the last fortnight and the striker can expect a call as early as
today from Neill. The defender landed in Sydney last night ahead of
Saturday's World Cup qualification rematch against Uruguay. He managed to
fit in a deserved Las Vegas holiday with girlfriend Lindsey Morris and he is
buoyed by the Hammers' grand plans.

Hammers' hit-list

"I haven't spoken to 'Dukes' yet,'' Neill said last night. "I've tried to
ring him a couple of times but I've been on holiday and with the time
difference it's been difficult. "I'd love him (to come to West Ham). I know
him inside and out but defenders hate him. "I hope he doesn't stay at Boro
but he's a man in demand.
"I'll help him make that decision but I can't force it. "This is probably
his last playing contract, so he's deciding where he'll finish his career.''

Viduka could be the first of several high-profile players for the Hammers as
they embark on their bold plan to become the next Chelsea. But their
hit-list, which will be bankrolled by Icelandic chairman Eggert Magnusson,
includes Real Madrid's Brazilian ace Roberto Carlos and former Chelsea
striker Eidur Gudjohnsen (now with Barcelona). "One thing you know you're
going to get with Australians is a good work ethic and a lot of heart and
passion, which the crowd and the chairman love,'' he said. "But you can
throw in a bit of skill. We're not mugs any more. "We can play on the
biggest stage, as all of us have proved. "We're talking to Dukes, who's got
a great track record in the Premiership, but it doesn't stop there. "Its not
unimaginable that players like Roberto Carlos end up at West Ham because of
his (the chairman's) resources. "But it's not about the money. It's about
building a star team and not a team of stars.
"He's not going to throw endless amounts of money around willy-nilly. He
wants a team that will gel, so he wants to buy leaders with strong
character.''

Building a superclub

West Ham have plans for a 60,000-seat stadium, which Neill says they will
fill easily. He said West Ham have 8000 fans on Upton Park's waiting list.
But it was Magnusson's on-field plans that lured him from Blackburn, and he
has vowed that the Hammers will never return to the dark depths of last
season.
"You will never see West Ham in the position they've been in for the last
seven months,'' he declared. "When the chairman signed me he said I want big
names in my squad and I want to take this club to another level. "He would
stop at nothing to bring in the best he could bring in. You could throw any
name at him _ some are ungettable - and he'll go out after them.'' Neill
insists it will be hard keeping Argentian superstar Carlos Tevez with Real
Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea in the hunt. "He really loves the fans and the
fact he feels so important and he probably feels less pressure there (at the
Hammers),'' Neill said.
He said the confidence returned after the 2-1 win at Blackburn in March, a
game in which the Hammers won back the crowd and "everyone started to
believe again''. But the turning point was the 3-0 loss to Sheffield United.
Complacency kicked in after beating Arsenal 1-0 at Emirates Stadium a week
earlier, but after the Sheffield reality check, West Ham beat Chelsea,
Everton, Wigan, Bolton and then Manchester United at Old Trafford. "After
the Tottenham game everyone said that's it, we're gone,'' he admitted.
"There was a lot of negativity and I thought there's no point being
negative. "Plus I'd bought into a dream and I don't want to be a failure, I
want to be a success. "So a few of us took it upon ourselves to make sure
all the negativity was quickly dismissed.
"There was 27 points to play for, were we going to just hand them over or
will we fight for them? "There's no more passionate fans than West Ham, they
outsung Man United fans on championship day at Old Trafford, so to win them
back was a big thing.''
Neill thought the Hammers would escape the drop within a few weeks of
joining - instead it came down to the final day. "I can now justify my
decision to go there, I was a key part of winning seven out of nine games,''
Neill said. Neill was last night relaxing with his partner at Star City
Casino, before joining the Socceroos camp for the friendly against Uruguay
on Saturday at Telstra Stadium.

League threaten Blades as relegation row grows
Denis Campbell
Sunday May 27, 2007
The Observer

Sheffield United will be formally thrown out of the Premier League this week
if they do not give up their place voluntarily, despite their efforts to
prove that West Ham should have been relegated instead of them.
The Blades are refusing to relinquish their share in the top flight as the
row over Carlos Tevez's eligibility, and West Ham's signing of him and
fellow Argentine Javier Mascherano, rumbles on.

But the Premier League made clear yesterday that United's share will be
taken from them at the organisation's annual meeting on Thursday if they do
not return it, given their drop into the Championship. United are refusing
to accept that fate and hope that an arbitration tribunal convened last week
to examine their complaints will allow them to retain their place among
England's elite next season.

'If Sheffield United do not return the share, Premier League rules mean that
it will be unilaterally transferred to a promoted club and this will happen
at our AGM this coming Thursday,' a league spokesman said. United believe an
independent Premier League disciplinary tribunal was wrong simply to fine
West Ham £5.5million rather than dock them points over irregularities and
subsequent deceit over recruiting the Argentine pair last August.
West Ham captain Nigel Reo-Coker has handed in a transfer request. According

Tevez to exit West Ham over rift with Curbishley
Jamie Jackson and Denis Campbell
Sunday May 27, 2007
Guardian Unlimited

Carlos Tevez, West Ham's controversial Argentine striker, is keen to leave
the club because of differences with manager Alan Curbishley. Manchester
United, Chelsea and Liverpool are all considering a move for Tevez, who
scored seven goals in the Hammers' last 10 Premiership games of the season
to help keep them in the top flight.

According to a West Ham insider, Tevez will not consider staying at Upton
Park as long as Curbishley is in charge. 'Tevez likes the club and wants to
stay,' the source said, 'but he won't while Alan Curbishley is the manager.
He hasn't forgotten how he was treated when Curbishley first took over from
Alan Pardew. He told Tevez he didn't know what his best position was,
treated him indifferently in training, and refused to play him at first.'

Curbishley left the 23-year-old on the bench for his first game in charge, a
1-0 win over Manchester United in December, and it was a month before he
named Tevez in a starting line-up in the Premiership. 'If there was a change
of manager maybe it would be different,' the source added, 'but Tevez does
not think Curbishley knows what he is doing and that he's a bad manager. He
wants to play for someone who can further develop his game. Curbishley
recognises now that Tevez saved our season, but it's too late.'

Tevez, who has won 25 caps for Argentina and played for them in last year's
World Cup finals, was the subject of a £31million bid from Inter Milan while
at Brazilian club Corinthians in 2005, and it is believed that a similar
figure will be demanded for him this summer.

He could follow Nigel Reo-Coker out of West Ham after the club's captain
handed in a transfer request. According to Reo-Coker's adviser, Tony
Finnigan, the midfielder has decided to move after he was not given the
right assurances over his future by the club's board.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United will be formally thrown out of the Premier
League this week if they do not give up their place voluntarily, despite
their efforts to prove that West Ham should have been relegated instead of

Benayoun signs new deal with West Ham - Jerusalem Post
By ALLON SINAI

National soccer team captain Yossi Benayoun ended speculation about his
future on Friday by signing a five-year contract that could keep him at
English Premier League club West Ham United until 2012.

"I'm very pleased to have agreed this new deal," the midfielder told West
Ham's official Web site. "From the first moment I arrived at West Ham, the
club felt like home to me. We have the best supporters in England.

"The natural thing for me was to sign a new deal and I'm very happy because
I want to stay at this club. I'm sure we'll have a better season next year
because we have players with a lot of quality. We will also have new players
coming in to make us stronger and better.

"I'm very pleased because it is the best place for me."

The 27-year-old, who was signed from Spain's Racing Santander in July 2005
for 2.5 million, played an important role in helping West Ham escape
relegation from the Premier League this season and was key in the team's
UEFA Cup qualification last year.

Benayoun's new contract is rumored to be in the region of 55,000 a week,
which would make it the biggest ever for an Israeli soccer player.

"The chairman is very ambitious and I want to thank him because the
negotiations were very quick," said Benayoun. "He and the manager showed me
they wanted me to stay immediately. Hopefully I will pay them back on the
pitch and I will do everything in my power to match their ambition."

Hammers chairman Eggert Magnusson said, "We are very ambitious and Yossi is
a big part of our plans. I'm very pleased to have agreed terms to keep him
at the club for five more years.

"We are looking forward to bringing in exciting new signings but we must
also make sure we keep hold of the hugely talented players we already have."

West Ham Making Plans Without Nigel - West Ham Fans.org
Submitted by Neville Nixon on 27 May, 2007 - 06:37.

As the fruition of one of the club's worst kept secrets, Hammers
(ex)-captain Nigel Reo-Coker has finally handed in a transfer request. Well
not quite actually, his advisor Tony Finnigan and his agent have been
desperately trying to move their client on for ages and received short
shrift from the club when attempting to re-negotiate the England U21
captain's contract. Reo-Coker who joined West Ham from Wimbledon/MK Dons,
had his nose put severely out of joint following the arrivals of Javier
Mascherano and Carlos Tevez from Corinthians on big wages, this in addition
to his anger at not being made available for sale when Arsenal came sniffing
around after his one and only really good season wearing the Claret & Blue,
has made the players position untenable. Throw in the race card and the
arrival of captain in the making Lucas Neill and it becomes pretty obvious
that it was all going to end in toys out the pram and tears.

There is another element involved, in case it had escaped readers notice,
Eggert Magnusson is a family man who places great emphasis on family values,
perhaps naively he was staggered and appalled at the 'moral decline' or
'cancer' that he discovered after completing the buy out from 'Brown the
Crim'. Reo-Coker's previous propensity for 'roasting' (not the carvery type)
will have done little to impress, but it was the tangled love life of
various staff and squad members that really opened his eyes, the culmination
of which was a dressing room bust up involving two people who were both
seeing the same woman at the same time!
Having had his eyes opened by what he saw, Eggert then further discovered
the gambling culture that was inherent in the squad before deciding to take
wide ranging and tough action, from that moment on it was only going to be a
matter of time before NRC was going to be out of the door, however being a
sound businessman Mr Magnusson kept his own council in order not to have a
negative effect on the players value.. The club are looking to get around £8
Million for Reo-Coker with Aston Villa leading the hunt, not as much as the
£12 Million he was worth a while ago, but still a good return on the
£500,000 that he originally cost, but he will become a full International
sooner rather than later. One baby bentley owner and a couple of gamblers on
the way out, plenty more reprobates to follow- Ed

Brighton question FA over Tevez - Sky
By Lewis Rutledge - Created on 25 May 2007

Brighton have written to the Football Association to discover whether Carlos
Tevez was eligible to play in their FA Cup clash with West Ham. The Premier
League fined The Hammers £5.5million following a hearing into the transfers
of Tevez and Argentine compatriot Javier Mascherano. They ruled that the
third-party agreement West Ham had in place contravened Premier League
rules. Brighton are not concerned about Tevez's ownership, but have argued
that perhaps he was not allowed to play in the FA Cup match in January,
which West Ham won 3-0. "We have written to the FA but we haven't had a
response yet," Seagulls chief executive Martin Perry told the Evening Argus.
"The issue revolves around whether or not he was eligible, it isn't an issue
about ownership as far as we are concerned. "It is being investigated now by
Fifa, so from our point of view it is a watching brief. We have written for
clarification and we will wait and see. "If the Premier League's position is
found to be correct, that he was eligible to play and that the rules broken
related to ownership, then we don't have a case. "If it was found that he
wasn't eligible then we will certainly take it further. It all hinges around
that single point."

Ephraim aims to make impression - Sky
By Mark Buckingham - Created on 25 May 2007

Hogan Ephraim is keeping an open mind about his future after signing a new
contract at West Ham United. The England youth international has made just a
brief substitute appearance for The Hammers and spent much of the campaign
on loan at Colchester United. The forward could return to Layer Road next
season, but wants to try to make an impression at Upton Park before he makes
a decision. With a 12-month contract under his belt, Ephraim outlined his
intention to impress Alan Curbishley in pre-season training. "We came to the
conclusion that it would be best all round if I signed for another year,"
Ephraim told the Colchester Gazette. "I know that I have to hit the ground
running as soon as we get back after the summer break. "There are some
top-class players at West Ham, but I'm confident that I can be in and around
the first-team squad. "The manager hasn't seen me play, but he told me he
has taken advice from the people around him and his backroom staff. "He said
they like what they have seen and that he'll have a good look at me in
pre-season."

Brighton complain Tevez not eligible for FA Cup - Soccernet

Brighton have waded into the Carlos Tevez saga by writing to the Football
Association to seek clarification over the West Ham striker's eligibility to
play in their FA Cup third-round clash back in January. West Ham were fined
£5.5million by the Premier League over irregularities surrounding the
signings of Tevez and fellow Argentinian Javier Mascherano in August, but an
arbitration panel will now be set up after complaints from relegated
Sheffield United. The row centres around the decision not to dock the
Hammers points for signing third-party agreements in contravention of league
rules. And now Coca-Cola League One side Brighton want to establish whether
they have a case for compensation after Tevez played in West Ham's 3-0
victory at Upton Park. Seagulls chief executive Martin Perry told the
Evening Argus: 'We have written to the FA but we haven't had a response yet.
The issue revolves around whether or not he was eligible, it isn't an issue
about ownership as far as we are concerned. 'The fact is the Premier League
are insisting he was eligible. In that case, we haven't got anywhere to go.
'It is being investigated now by FIFA, so from our point of view it is a
watching brief. We have written for clarification and we will wait and see.
'If the Premier League's position is found to be correct, that he was
eligible to play and that the rules broken related to ownership, then we
don't have a case. 'If it was found that he wasn't eligible then we will
certainly take it further. It all hinges around that single point.' The
three-man arbitration panel to rule on Sheffield United's complaints is due
to be appointed today but any final decision is not likely before the end of
June.

Sheffield cling on to share over Tevez fine - Telegraph
By David Bond
Last Updated: 12:35am BST 26/05/2007

Sheffield United are refusing to hand back their share in the Premier League
until after an arbitration hearing into the Carlos Tevez controversy. All
relegated clubs are supposed to hand over their share to one of the three
promoted clubs from the Championship ahead of the Premiership's annual
summer meeting in June. But Sheffield will not give up their stake until
they know the outcome of the league's arbitration hearing into the case,
which will be held on June 18 and 19, three weeks after next week's annual
general meeting. A statement from Sheffield United said: "SUFC today
confirmed that it has refused a request by the Premier League to deliver up
its share. All Premier League clubs are entitled to a share in the League
itself, and Sheffield United's position is that until the arbitration
looking into the Tevez matter is resolved, it remains a Premiership club.
The club believes if it gives up its share the Premier League cannot be
guaranteed to fulfil its promise to return the share should the arbitration
reinstate Sheffield United to the Premier League."

Earlier this week, Fulham increased pressure on the league by writing to
threaten a judicial review over the decision of an independent commission to
fine West Ham £5.5 million and not dock them points for breaking third-party
ownership rules with the signing of Tevez. A league source said Sheffield
United's share in the league would be unilaterally taken away from them if
they refused to hand it over next week. Tottenham have confirmed the signing
of Wales left-back Gareth Bale from Southampton for up to £10 million.

frontrunner, after Villa appeared to lose interest in the wake of a failed

Brighton query Tevez eligibility in FA Cup - This Is London
26.05.07

Brighton have written to the FA to find out if Carlos Tevez was eligible to
play for West Ham against them in the FA Cup last January. Tevez was a key
figure in West Ham's third round win, and Brighton chief executive Martin
Perry will press for compensation if the row over ownership of the Argentina
international goes against the Hammers. The Premier League, who fined West
Ham £5.5m, have agreed to Sheffield United's request for the case to go to
an arbitration tribunal. Perry said: "The issue revolves around whether or
not Tevez was eligible to play against us. It is about ownership. "If the
FA insist he was eligible, we have nowhere to go. But if it is found that he
was not eligible, then we will take it further."

Reo can go, says Curbs - The Sun
By ANDREW DILLON
May 26, 2007

NIGEL REO-COKER was told last night he has no future at West Ham. The
Hammers skipper can leave as long as any buyer meets the £8million asking
price.
Boss Alan Curbishley is leading his clearout by axeing the team captain in a
show of strength. A host of players are expected to follow with keeper Roy
Carroll, left-back Paul Konchesky and right-back John Pantsil already told
they can go. Hayden Mullins is one of several targets for Premiership rivals
Reading, Striker Teddy Sheringham, 41, has already left the Hammers, who are
now tracking Liverpool's Craig Bellamy, 27. But they will have to cough up
£12m to make Kop boss Rafa Benitez let him leave Anfield. Aston Villa are
also in the hunt but West Ham seem to hold the upper hand especially if
Bellamy could be used as a makeweight should Liverpool firm up their
interest in Hammers hitman Carlos Tevez. Definitely staying at Upton Park is
Israel midfielder Yossi Benayoun, 27. He has just signed a five-year
contract.

Blades refuse to join League - Yorkshire Post
By Ian Appleyard

SHEFFIELD United will throw the Premier League into chaos this week by
refusing to join the Football League until their legal battle has been
settled. The Blades, who were relegated on the final day of the season,
remain at war with the Premier League over the decision not to dock points
from West Ham United. Blades chairman Kevin McCabe insists that the Hammers
were let off the hook when fined £5.5m for breaking rules over the signing
of Argentinian international Carlos Tevez and should have been relegated
instead of the Bramall Lane club. Now, when the Premier League chairmen meet
for the annual general meeting on Thursday, McCabe will refuse to return the
club's 'share' – which is effectively a membership card for those in the top
flight. In a statement released last night, the Blades confirmed that they
would not step down from the Premier League until arbitration into the Tevez
affair had been concluded. A three-man panel of lawyers, whose identities
had still not been unveiled last night, are due to consider the League's
decision and rule whether it was unlawful. They may not reach their decision
for a number of weeks and if they rule against the League, the Blades could
be awarded hefty compensation or challenge for immediate re-instatement.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Clubs stand firm in Blades battle - The Sheffield Star

SHEFFIELD United's fight to challenge their relegation to the Championship
has passed another critical test. As a new three-man panel prepares to
examine the Premier League's decision not to deduct West Ham points
following a serious breach of transfer regulations - a verdict which
confirmed United's bottom-three finish - Bramall Lane are continuing to
receive support from other clubs, most notably Fulham and Wigan, who feel
they are the victims of a miscarriage of justice.
Earlier this week, United's plc chairman Kevin McCabe, who is set to appoint
a team of financial advisors to help identify new revenue streams in the
United States, confirmed the club were pursuing their case as "full members
of the Premier League". Reports that United will refuse to resign their
membership when it expires are so far unconfirmed but, whatever the outcome,
they have been informed that Fulham are considering the possibility of
joining them in the arbitration process which will investigate the PL
commission's original decision.
In a letter to the league, Fulham ask whether next week's AGM should be
postponed until after the forthcoming hearing and suggest the commission's
reasoning was "flawed" because it took into account "irrelevant factors" but
ignored "relevant" ones. This refers to the decision to fine West Ham £5.5
million rather than deduct points being based in part on concerns about
punishing supporters. Meanwhile, United, who can appoint one member of the
three-man arbitration panel, have stepped up attempts to secure fresh
investment following McCabe's return from a fact-finding mission in New
York. Confirming that the plc is set to appoint a firm of investment
advisers who would work alongside the club to identify potential backers,
McCabe said "This club is not standing still.
"We are moving forward on and off the pitch. "I held meetings where the
interest in the Blades was high. "Americans are very creative. "They know
how to profile and brand football. "I had some good meetings in New York and
we intend to appoint a firm of investment advisers. "We're looking for
people to work alongside us, not just for capital but for expertise."

Hammers in international action - WHUFC
25/05/2007 08:41

Danny Gabbidon may make his long-awaited return from injury tomorrow at the
Racecourse Ground where Wales are set to take on New Zealand in an
international friendly. The West Ham United defender was hampered by a groin
injury during the latter part of last season and had to undergo two
operations. If he does take part, he will be playing alongside team-mate
James Collins.
Robert Green is also hoping to be involved in international action tonight,
having been named in the England squad for the B international against
Albania, which takes place at Turf Moor.

Elsewhere, representing the Hammers in the England Under-21 squad, Mark
Noble, Nigel Reo-Coker and Anton Ferdinand are at a training camp in Spain
preparing for next month's friendly against Slovakia.

The Club today also confirmed that Hammers goalkeeper Roy Carroll has asked
to leave Upton Park so that he can play regular first team football and has
been granted a free transfer.
Paul Konchesky and John Pantsil have also stated their desire for first team
action and will be allowed to leave when an appropriate transfer offer is
made that is acceptable to the Club.

Season ticket prices 2007/8 - WHO
Match Reporter - Fri May 25 2007

West Ham United have released their season ticket prices for the forthcoming
Premier League campaign.

An average rise on an adult season of around 7% will be seen by many as a
small price to pay should the club be able to retain the excellent Carlos
Tevez and the promised World Class players Executive Chairman Eggert
Magnússon has indicated the club will sign this summer. Whilst the minority
will moan at the fact West Ham have joined only Tottenham and Manchester
United in raising prices for the coming season, West Ham once again went
through what was a poor campaign with a record number of season ticket
holders and a string of sell out games and it's a simple case of supply and
demand. With the excellent finish to the last campaign and the drama
involved, coupled to the fact of the promise investment from a board for the
first time in the Hammers history showing true ambition, season tickets
could well be tough to come across, as the club have vowed to cap sales at
26,000, a figure the club were not far short of last season, leaving 5000+
tickets to sale to members. So with the rise equating to no more then a
pint of lager per game, I'm sure not too many fans wont be renewing by the
29th of June deadline.

part in helping West Ham stave off relegation to the Championship. He has

midfielder set to sign an improved deal at West Ham. Israel international
Benayoun was expected to hand in a transfer request and be on his way out of
Upton Park this summer. However, despite a myriad of interest from the likes
of Spurs, Portsmouth and Newcastle, the Hammers have moved to entice him to
stay put. The fact they avoided relegation and the offer of a new improved
five-year deal in which Benayoun will be handed a weekly wage of £38,500 -
an increase of £15,500 from his current £23,000-a-week salary - looks like
ensuring he will be going nowhere. West Ham boss Alan Curbishley is thought
to be plotting a massive squad overhaul but wants to keep Benayoun on board.

United after admitting it may be time to join a major European club. He
arrived at Upton Park last August, along with Mascherano, with the duo's
controversial transfer eventually landing The Hammers with a £5.5million
fine. Mascherano moved on again in January when he signed for Liverpool and
he has impressed since playing regularly in the Premiership. Reports suggest
the UEFA Champions League finalists want to reunite the South Americans, and
the midfielder believes his compatriot would be a big hit at Anfield. "It's
possible he will come," Mascherano told the Sun about the Tevez rumours. "I
would love to have him by my side as a player and a friend. "After managing
to keep West Ham in the Premiership, he has a lot of possibilities to move

he's talking about a probable move to Liverpool. "He would be a barbarian."

Blues baulk at Konchesky price Fri, May 25 2007 13:29 - EatSleepSport

Birmingham have reportedly pulled out of a deal to sign defender Paul
Konchesky because of West Ham's £4million asking price. The news comes
after coach Eric Black confirmed the newly-promoted club are finding it
difficult recruiting experienced players because of mounting transfer fees
and wage ranges. Transfer target Sylvain Distin will rake in £50,000-a-week
at his new club Portsmouth, while the Hammers' price tag on left-back
Konchesky is out of Birmingham's range. Black feels there is not only a lack
of quality available but there is also the competition from richer clubs who
can afford the "astronomical" asking prices. "We are looking to up the
quality level wherever we possibly can. But it's certainly not
straightforward, especially finding players who may have Premier League
experience," Black told the Birmingham Mail. "There is a dearth of quality
out there and it's become harder and harder as everyone is fishing from the
same pond, and the net clubs are casting is so vast. It's become
increasingly difficult to find that little gem. "Then there are the fees
involved, which have become astronomical in some cases and affordable to
only a very few. However, that's the situation we find ourselves in and
we're doing all we can to identify players and then see if it's possible to
bring them here," said Black.

Yossi Hammers out new deal - TeamTalk

Israel midfielder Yossi Benayoun has ended specualtion about his West Ham
future by signing a new five-year contract at Upton Park. The 27-year-old
played a key role in the Hammers escaping relegation from the Premiership
and will now remain at Upton Park until 2012 at least after agreeing the new
deal. Benayoun, who signed from Racing Santander for £2.5million in July
2005, told the club's official website: "I'm very pleased to have agreed
this new deal. From the first moment I arrived at West Ham, the club felt

Seagulls wade into Tevez row - TeamTalk

Brighton have written to the FA for clarification over West Ham striker
Carlos Tevez's eligibility to play in their FA Cup clash in January. West
Ham were fined £5.5million by the Premier League over irregularities
surrounding the signings of Tevez and fellow Argentinian Javier Mascherano
in August, but an arbitration panel will now be set up after complaints from
relegated Sheffield United. The row centres around the decision not to dock
the Hammers points for signing third-party agreements in contravention of
league rules. And now League One side Brighton want to establish whether
they have a case for compensation after Tevez played in West Ham's 3-0
victory at Upton Park. Seagulls chief executive Martin Perry told the
Evening Argus: "We have written to the FA but we haven't had a response yet.
The issue revolves around whether or not he was eligible, it isn't an issue
about ownership as far as we are concerned. "The fact is the Premier League
are insisting he was eligible. In that case, we haven't got anywhere to go.
"It is being investigated now by FIFA, so from our point of view it is a
watching brief. We have written for clarification and we will wait and see.
"If the Premier League's position is found to be correct, that he was
eligible to play and that the rules broken related to ownership, then we
don't have a case. "If it was found that he wasn't eligible then we will
certainly take it further. It all hinges around that single point." The
three-man arbitration panel to rule on Sheffield United's complaints is due
to be appointed on Friday but any final decision is not likely before the
end of June.

BLADES STEP UP TEV WAR
EXCLUSIVE Sheffield United vow to fight on McCabe will snub promoted clubs
Alan Nixon 25/05/2007

SHEFFIELD UNITED plan to throw the Premier League into chaos by refusing to
hand over their membership 'card' to a newly-promoted club. United plc
chairman Kevin McCabe aims to go on a war footing over the Carlos Tevez
affair and bring it to a head with this unprecedented move. Relegated teams
have to pass on a certificate of membership at the league's annual meeting,
but the Blades are going to hold onto it until the arbitration process over
West Ham's record £5.5million fine for breaking regulations over Tevez's
registration is completed. The Blades and some other clubs were unhappy the
Hammers punishment did not include having points docked. That would have
sent West Ham down instead of the Yorkshire club. Sheffield United
officially lose their Premier League status when they give up the "share",
but believe they would be within their rights were they to hold onto it at
the meeting scheduled for Thursday. No club has taken this form of action
before and it may force the agenda to be ripped up and put further pressure
on chief executive Richard Scudamore to sort out a new solution. The Premier
League had dismissed Sheffield United's attempts at arbitration as a "waste
of money" - angering them and their allies. Wigan chairman Dave Whelan and
Fulham's Mohamed Al Fayed will also be pressing for a judicial review of the
whole process as they stand strong beside their relegated former rival.
However Sheffield United's move is more radical and drags another club -
technically the Championship play-off winners West Brom or Derby - into the
dispute. The refusal to hand over the share would also stop the Premier
League issuing fixtures for next season and give Scudamore a reminder this
problem is far from over ahead of what promises to be the stormiest Premier
League AGM ever. Whelan had suggested Scudamore and chairman Sir David
Richards should resign over their handling of the case.

"Winning the Gold Cup is our most important priority this year and I believe

Premiership Rumour Mill: West Ham close in Shorey - Daily Mail
By DANNY GRIFFITHS - Last updated at 10:49am on 25th May 2007

West Ham want Reading defender Nicky Shorey as the first piece in their
programme to rebuild the first-team at Upton Park. Hammers boss Alan
Curbishley wants to shake-up the squad which spectacularly underachieved
last season and only achieved premiership survival by beating Manchester
United on the last day of the season. And he is preparing to make a
£5million bid for the 26-year-old who will make play for England B against
Albania tonight. Shorey has been one of the foundations behind the Royals'
successful first season in the top flight and would be the second of their
top stars to depart the Madejski Stadium since the end of the season
following Steve Sidwell's switch to Chelsea as a free agent. Reading will
try to keep their best players and director of football Nicky Hammond said:
"Players will leave us this summer but we are not planning to lose anyone we
don't want to."
Shorey can't wait to pull on his country's shirt at Burnley's Turf Moor
tonight and said: "It's been a great year and, following on from the last
couple of seasons, it is excellent and rounds everything off nicely."

Sunderland have made a £2m bid for Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen, who has
a year left on his current contract. and the Black Cats also want
Barcelona's Eidur Gudjohnsen - but face competition from West Ham,
Portsmouth and Newcastle.

Blades to learn Tevez panel - Yorkshire Post

SHEFFIELD United will today discover the identities of the three men chosen
to conduct an arbitration into the Premier League's handling of the 'Carlos
Tevez affair'. The trio will be examining the decision not to dock West Ham
United points for breaking transfer regulations in the signing of the
Argentinian international striker and his team-mate, Javier Mascherano, who
is now at Liverpool. If they should rule that the League have not acted
properly, it could lead to the awarding of compensation although Blades
chairman Kevin McCabe is still hoping that the Hammers will be relegated
instead of the Blades. The panel is likely to comprise three lawyers, one of
whom will have been chosen by the Blades and another who will be the choice
of the Premier League. The third will act as an independent. Although the
panel is appointed today, the date for the publication of their final
decision is not yet known. Tevez helped the Hammers pull clear of the
Premiership relegation zone while the Blades went down on goal difference
along with Charlton Athletic and Watford.

Albion want clarification on Tevez - the Argus

Albion have written to the FA seeking clarification over the eligibility of
Carlos Tevez for their FA Cup defeat at West Ham in January. The Seagulls
are trying to establish whether they have a case for compensation as an
investigation into the details of the Tevez transfer to Upton Park
continues. West Ham were hit with a £5.5 million fine by the Premier League
over the ownership of Tevez and Argentina team-mate Javier Mascherano.
Martin Perry, Albion's chief executive, said: "We have written to the FA but
we haven't had a response yet. The issue revolves around whether or not he
was eligible, it isn't an issue about ownership as far as we are concerned.
"The fact is the Premier League are insisting he was eligible. In that case

eligible then we will certainly take it further. It all hinges around that
single point."
The Premier League will publish its fixture list in mid-June as normal,
despite agreeing to Sheffield United's request for an arbitration tribunal
to rule on the Tevez affair. The Blades, relegated on the final day while
West Ham stayed up, are adamant the Hammers should have been docked points.
The members of the three-man arbitration panel will be named today but a
final ruling is not expected until the end of June. Meanwhile, Albion have
corrected dates for a couple of pre-season friendlies. They play at
Braintree on Wednesday July 18 and Billericay on Saturday July 21.

Premiership keeper in City's sights - Clubcall
20070525 10:32

Boss Dave Jones is reportedly planning a swoop to take West Ham's
out-of-favour goalkeeper Roy Carroll to Ninian Park this summer. The
Northern Ireland international shot-stopper is thought to be unhappy with
his lack of first-team opportunities at Upton Park due to the emergence of
Robert Green as the Hammers' number one last season. And it looks likely
that he will depart in search of regular action in the new season.
The Bluebirds are on the lookout for a new keeper following contract rebel
Neil Alexander's failure to put pen-to-paper on a new deal offered to him by
the south Wales side at the end of the season. And Carroll would be the
ideal recruit whether it be on a permanent or season-long loan basis. The
former Wigan keeper has been at West Ham for two years following a free
transfer switch from Manchester United, but Cardiff's rivals site has
reported that he could soon become a Bluebirds regular next term.

Royals to snub Hammers swoop - Clubcall
20070525 08:43

Director of football Nicky Hammond insists Reading will do everything to
resist West Ham's reported £5million swoop for Nicky Shorey. The 26-year-old
is reportedly at the top of Hammers boss Alan Curbishley's target list after
an impressive debut Premiership campaign with the Royals in which he helped
Steve Coppell's men to an eighth-placed finish. He played in 37 of the
Royals 38 games and almost secured a place in the PFA team of the year which
has seen him become a reported big target of the Hammers.
The left-back has been rewarded with his performances for Reading with a
call-up to the England B side for Friday's friendly against Albania at
Burnley's Turf Moor and, despite the expected interest from other parties,
the club are vowing to keep Shorey at the Madejski Stadium. Hammond told
The Mirror: "Players will go from us this summer but we are not planning to
lose anyone we don't want to. It is not our plan to lose key players. "You
cannot make a final decision until an offer comes in but our main players
are contracted."

Web Digest [ West Ham United ] - 25th May 2007

Galey's View - WHUFC

It's great to see Mark Noble selected for the England under-21s and I've got
a feeling he's going to enjoy it because he's still relatively fresh after
only making an impact and getting into the first team in the last quarter of
the season. Undoubtedly he has a bright future ahead of him and he was
under-used by Alan Pardew. I think Alan Curbishley recognised his talent
immediately and, alongside Carlos Tevez, they were the two main reasons why
West Ham turned the season around and accomplished the great escape. Mark
brought enthusiasm into the side and a competitiveness that was missing on
many occasions. Not only did he play well but he raised the performances of
others around him. Rob Green has also been called into the England squad
this week for the B team game against Albania. It was a bit of a mystery to
me why he wasn't in the Hammers first team on several occasions this season.
I am in a privileged position working for Sky and, of all the Premiership
teams I've seen this season, Rob has been one of the best and most
consistent goalkeepers. Not only that but he was playing under difficult
circumstances in a side that was fighting against relegation. I hope he gets
his chance again on the international stage. I feel that he is a keeper with
a really bright future. The only worrying thing about him is that, for a
goalkeeper, his interviews seem to be a little too articulate. Most of the
goalkeepers I've met in my career are mad and thick as two short planks! So
I will now dub Rob the thinking man's goalkeeper….
With the summer underway there are sure to be a few changes at Upton Park. I
believe Alan Curbishley is on holiday at the moment, but while he is
enjoying his time off with his wife I bet his mind is racing with thoughts
of who he's going to bring in and who he's going to release this summer.
There will be exciting times for all the fans as they try to guess who the
Club is going to sign. The names that have been mentioned in the Premiership
suggest we will be buying at the top end of the market and that is great
news. It is a luxury that Alan hasn't been able to enjoy much in his
managerial career. What he will be planning to do is start next season where
we left off - on a winning run. He will be aiming to get us up the table and
secure in the Premiership as soon as possible. Then we can kick on from
there. Next week I will be reviewing the season - but not all in one go as
there won't be enough room on the website! I will be breaking the season
down into three parts so I'll begin by looking back over the beginning of
the season: join me then.

Behind the Scenes: Steve Rigby - WHUFC
24/05/2007 10:32

After 27 years at the Club, West Ham United kitman Eddie Gilham left some
tough boots to fill when he retired at the end of last season. But Steve
Rigby is prepared to step into them and usher in a new era as the next
Hammers kitman. "It's been good so far, it seems a really nice place to
work," he said "All the people are decent, I just want to get the season
started now really. I'm waiting for all the new kit to come in and then it's
all systems go. "It's quite odd timing that Eddie's going and we're leaving
Reebok and I'm coming in with Umbro. So it's a fresh start all round."
Steve and Eddie have been close friends for many years. "He's been a mentor
and a guru to me," said Steve. "Any problems I've ever had, I've given him a
buzz or nipped over and seen him. We've always been in touch and hopefully I
can carry on where he left off. "I knew him from my days when I was at
Leyton Orient and we kept in touch for about nine years now. I've known him
a long time. I'm really excited about taking over from him. "He's always
someone I've looked up to. As a kit man at Orient I knew one day Eddie was
going to retire and I was always looking at whether the prospect would come
up. Now, with Eddie going and with Curbs coming in, it worked out perfectly
really."
Having joined from Charlton, Steve is also close to Hammers boss Alan
Curbishley. "He's a top man," said Steve. "The Club have got the right man
for the job. He's laid-back, happy-go-lucky. I've got a lot of time for him
and I'm sure he'll do really well. "I was only at Charlton with him for a
year and a half. He took me there from Orient so he must have liked what I
did and had a lot of trust in me to bring me in. As soon as he made the
phone call to see if I was interested it was always going to happen. It was
excellent. "When I said yes to the job seven weeks ago it looked like
Charlton was the team that was going to stay up and West Ham would be going
down, so I'd fully accepted the fact that it looked like we'd be going to
Scunthorpe next season! But it's fantastic how it's turned out - I'm really
pleased. "I know a few of the players already and they know me so it helps
being a familiar face. Hopefully to settle in it should be ok and fingers
crossed we have a really good season, it's a good laugh and everyone gets
on."

Bent plays down Hammers link - KUMB
Filed: Thursday, 24th May 2007
By: Matthew O'Greel

Charlton striker Darren Bent has distanced himself from rumours linking him
with a summer move to West Ham United. Bent was a target of United's in the
January transfer window although Charlton refused to sanction the sale of
the player whilst still in with a chance of avoiding relegation. But since
the Addicks dropped through the trap door earlier this month Bent has been
linked with a string of clubs; Tottenham and Liverpool have, along with the
Hammers, been mooted as possible destinations for the 23-year-old part time
England forward. But Bent denied that he was set to leave - immediately -
when talking on Charlton's website this evening. "You hear this, that and
the other," he said. "As soon as Alan [Curbishley] got the West Ham job
there were stories - and then lots of speculation during January - but
nothing's happening to my knowledge. "I'm just going to go away and get
myself 100 per cent fit for next season and take it from there. "In terms of
my situation I've not heard anything and I haven't spoken to the manager or
the chairman. But when you are young you want to play in the best league in
the country - and that's the Premiership."
Curbishley took Bent to Charlton from Ipswich in a £3m deal two years ago.
His fee now is likely to be around four times that should be, as expected,
leave the Valley.

Collins hopes for Tevez stay - Sky
By Mark Buckingham - Created on 24 May 2007

James Collins is hoping West Ham United can persuade Carlos Tevez to stay at
Upton Park. Tevez played a major role in keeping The Hammers in the
Premiership following his controversial move from Corinthians last August.
His team-mate Collins admits the players never discussed the transfer, which
has now resulted in an arbitration panel being set up following complaints
about the £5.5million fine meted out to the club. Instead, Collins is hoping
the fuss will die down and that Tevez can be talked into staying with West
Ham next season. The Argentine has suggested he needs to join a major
European club, but Wales international Collins feels it would be a travesty
if the striker left the Premiership. "None of the players ever thought about
the situation with Carlos," said Collins. "The funny thing is no-one was
talking about how Carlos came to the club when he was not playing or scoring
goals. "As soon as he started scoring, people started having an opinion
about him. "We were just happy to have him in our team as he is a
world-class player and a fantastic professional. "It would be great for West
Ham and English football if he is still in the Premiership next season. "I
am sure we will do our best to keep hold of him."

Fulham join Tevez row - Telegraph
By David Bond
Last Updated: 1:31am BST 25/05/2007

The Premier League's under-fire chief executive Richard Scudamore faced
searching new questions over the Carlos Tevez affair last night as Fulham
weighed in behind Sheffield United's bid to avoid relegation. In a letter
sent to Scudamore yesterday from Fulham's director and legal advisor Stuart
Benson, the club warn the League they will seek a judicial review unless
they can prove an independent commission followed correct procedure in
failing to dock West Ham points for breaking third-party ownership rules.
The hard-hitting letter, a copy of which has been obtained by the Daily
Telegraph, goes on to ask the following questions:

Whether the League would consider postponing next week's annual summer
meeting until after an arbitration hearing considers Sheffield United's
request to re-examine the commission's decision.

Whether Fulham could join Sheffield as a party in the arbitration.

Whether the commission's reasoning was "flawed" because it took into account
what Fulham consider to be "irrelevant factors" but ignored what they
believe to be "relevant factors".

This refers to the decision to fine West Ham £5.5 million and not deduct
points being partly based on concerns not to punish supporters and the fact
it was almost the end of the season, making docking points an even more
severe punishment. But the biggest threat to the League is that Fulham have
officially placed Scudamore on "notice of judicial review". The League were
last night preparing a response. Sources indicated they will not postpone
next week's meeting and Fulham will not join the arbitration process.

The League's Letter to The Blades - WestHamfc.blogspot

Somebody on the Blades Mad board has posted the letter Sheffield United
received from the Premier League. Basically it lays out in detail why
Sheffield United have no case. Here is part of a summary towards the end of
the letter,

"Given the complexities around this, we would ask you to step back from the
detail and consider the matter in more general terms:

1. Tevez has been properly registered to play for West Ham United since 31
August 2006. The Board, under our Rules, is charged with the authority to
determine this.

2. He continues to be registered with West Ham United.

3. This is a case without precedent and certainly cannot be compared with
Clubs who have played unregistered players or players ineligible through
suspension.

4. On 26 April West Ham United admitted to breaches of Rules B13 and U18 –
for which they have been fined in accordance with our Rules.

5. The offending third party agreement has been terminated by West Ham
United and therefore they are not continuing to be in breach."

The League also point towards part of the commission's judgement,

"The judgement also made comments about the Commission's view of the
enforceability of the third party contracts in question. West Ham United
argued that they were not enforceable, the Commission was minded to agree,
but West Ham United could not use this as a defence as they had acted as if
they were enforceable in the first place ... had the Club in time made
disclosure of the third party contracts to the FAPL, then, in all
probability, contracts could have been entered into which would not have
offended the rules"."

In other words Tevez's agents could not legally influence West Ham anyway.
If West Ham told the League about the wording of the contracts they could
have been reworded so that they did not break the rules. Basically The
Premier League seems to feel that West Ham's breach of the rules was a
technicality that could easily have been avoided and that any third party
interference in the club could never have happened anyway. When looked at
this way it seems that a £5.5 million fine was very steep punishment. In the
end despite the accusations by certain chairmen and journalists that West
Ham are cheats and should be deducted points West Ham have actually been
severely punished for a technical breach of a little known rule. It would be
nice if those who have jumped all over West Ham could actually stand back
and ask themselves what advantage West Ham stood to gain from allowing a
third party the right to withdraw its best players in the January transfer
window. West Ham were found guilty of allowing a third party the right to
adversely affect the club's performance and were subsequently fined £5.5
million. Case over.

Bent cool on West Ham move talk - TeamTalk

Charlton striker Darren Bent has played down speculation he is set to join
London rivals West Ham in a big-money move this summer. The Addicks forward
has been widely tipped to leave The Valley following the club's relegation
from the Premiership and Hammers boss Alan Curbishley has been linked with a
bid for the player. Curbishley brought Bent to Charlton from Ipswich in the
summer of 2005, but the 23-year-old insists he has had no contact with his
former boss about a move to Upton Park. He told Charlton's official website:
"You hear this, that and the other. As soon as Alan got the West Ham job
there were stories and then there was lots of speculation during January but
nothing's happening to my knowledge. "I'm just going to go away and get
myself 100 per cent fit for next season and take it from there."
Tottenham and Liverpool are also thought to be monitoring the situation,
while Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is apparently keen to take Bent on a
season-long loan at the Emirates Stadium.
But Bent insists he has not discussed his future with Addicks boss Alan
Pardew and although he is keen to play in the Premiership, he would not rule
out spending a season in the Championship with Charlton. He added: "In terms
of my situation I've not heard anything and I haven't spoken to the manager
or the chairman. "Obviously the club feels two more strikers are needed and
it gives the manager food for thought. "I don't think it's all about me.
Charlton have done a lot for me; I love the club and I love the fans, who
have been brilliant with me. "Of course when you are young you want to play
in the best league in the country and that's the Premiership, so I'm
disappointed we went down this season. But I've got no doubt whatsoever that
we can return straight away next year."

Collins hoping for Tevez stay - TeamTalk

James Collins is preparing for a return to international duty with Wales but
West Ham team-mate Carlos Tevez remains firmly in his thoughts. The
23-year-old defender insists the controversy surrounding the Argentina
striker was never an issue in the dressing room at Upton Park. West Ham were
fined £5.5million by an independent commission for having third-party
agreements connected with Tevez and Javier Mascherano, now with Liverpool,
after signing them last summer. An arbitration panel has now been set up
following pressure, particularly from Sheffield United, who were relegated
on the final day and challenged that ruling which saw the Hammers escape a
points deduction. Collins maintains the players just got on with their jobs
and ignored the furore. Speaking ahead of the friendly against New Zealand
at Wrexham on Saturday, he said: "None of the players ever thought about the
situation with Carlos. "The funny thing is no-one was talking about how
Carlos came to the club when he was not playing or scoring goals. "As soon
as he started scoring, people started having an opinion about him. "We were
just happy to have him in our team as he is a world class player and a
fantastic professional. "It would be great for West Ham and English football
if he is still in the Premiership next season. "I am sure we will do our
best to keep hold of him."
The irony for Sheffield United was that Tevez scored the winner in the last
game against Manchester United at Old Trafford to keep the Hammers in the
top flight. Collins said: "Carlos is a big game player and performs on the
big stage, so it was fitting for him to score at United. "We knew it was
going to be a tough game but it was in our hands. We were playing well,
keeping clean sheets and scoring goals. "We defended well and Carlos took
his goal superbly. "There is a talented squad here and a lot of
international players. Not one of the boys thought we were doomed. "Even
late in the season we still believed we could do it and our luck changed at
Blackburn, where we got two goals that perhaps we shouldn't have. "It was
hard on Sheffield United in the end of course but the players don't know
enough about the (registration) situation to comment."
Wales are using the friendly at the Racecourse as a warm-up to the Euro 2008
qualifier against the Czech Republic a week on Saturday. Collins said: "It
is good to get away after the pressure we were under at West Ham. "Playing
New Zealand is a big game for Welsh football despite what some people might
think. "It is a chance to get our fitness levels up and gain some confidence
going into the Czech Republic game. "It is also a massive experience for the
younger lads and we are determined to get a victory."

Hammer Mascherano insists Tevez would go on a scoring rampage if the Argie
pals are reunited. Reds midfielder Mascherano, 22, said: "It's possible he
will come. I would love to have him by my side as a player and a friend.
"After managing to keep West Ham in the Premiership, he has a lot of
possibilities to move to a big club in Europe. "When we talk we avoid
discussing moves but I know he's talking about a probable move to Liverpool.
He would be a barbarian!" Tevez is back in Argentina waiting for his future
to be sorted out but has made it clear he wants to sign for "one of Europe's
biggest clubs". He has also been impressed by the way Benitez coaxed
Mascherano back to top form after he was discarded by West Ham in January.
But Benitez faces competition for Tevez's signature as Chelsea, Real Madrid
and Inter Milan are also keen on him.

Fulham maintain Tévez offensive - Times
Gary Jacob

The "Gang of Four" have asked whether Sheffield United will be able to
attend the meeting of Barclays Premiership clubs that begins on Thursday.
United were relegated from the top flight but are contesting the decision
not to deduct points from West Ham United for breaching FA Premier League
rules in the transfer of Carlos Tévez. West Ham stayed up after finishing
three points above the Yorkshire team.

The Premier League will today announce the three-man arbitration panel that
will consider whether the original disciplinary process was carried out
correctly, but it will not sit before the Premiership clubs meet for two
days next week.

Fulham, who with Wigan Athletic, Sheffield United and Charlton Athletic make
up the "Gang of Four", have renewed their attack on the League in letters
seen by The Times.

"If the Premier League are seeking to exclude either of these clubs [West
Ham and Sheffield United], on what basis will it do so in light that a
deduction of points from West Ham or differently constituted commission
might result in that club being relegated rather than Sheffield?" Fulham
wrote.

They have asked for detailed information about the decision taken by the
independent commission to fine West Ham £5.5 million and about the
eligibility of Tévez for the last three matches of the season.

Fulham have also asked the League whether it offered advice about what the
appropriate penalty should be, for a transcript of the hearing, and whether
penalties imposed for similar breaches were considered.

Fulham pledge support for Blades over Tevez
Jeremy Wilson
Friday May 25, 2007
The Guardian

Fulham have signalled their willingness to support Sheffield United formally
when an arbitration panel meets to investigate the Premier League's decision
to allow Carlos Tevez to continue playing for West Ham United this season.
In a letter seen by the Guardian, the Fulham director Stuart Benson has
written to the Premier League's chief executive, Richard Scudamore,
outlining his backing for the Blades and his queries about the decision
merely to fine and not deduct points from the east London club for their
rule breach. "This club wholeheartedly supports Sheffield United," he said,
adding that his club were "minded" to become an additional party to the
forthcoming arbitration.

In a fresh twist, Fulham are threatening further action by informing the
Premier League that they intend to "revisit" with leading counsel an
application for judicial review in light of the outcome of the arbitration
and what appears to be a continuing refusal by the Premier League to conduct
a "further investigation as requested in the letter of May 4 from ourselves,
Wigan, Sheffield United and Charlton".
Benson says that legal experts have been advised of flaws in the independent
commission's reasoning process. "These flaws can be categorised under two
familiar headings: taking account of irrelevant factors and failing to take
account of relevant factors," he said. Among the irrelevant factors are the
timing of the points penalty that could have been imposed, and the impact on
supporters and players.

Fulham also want to know if the arbitration will take place before the AGM
of the Premier League next Thursday. Wigan have also written to Scudamore
pledging their support for Sheffield United. A letter to Scudamore from the
Wigan secretary, Stuart Hayton, said: "We are still not satisfied with the
explanations you have supplied in this respect."

CURBS' BID NOT A SHORE THING - The Mirror
25/05/2007

ENGLAND'S Nicky Shorey is a £5million target for his boyhood heroes West
Ham. Romford-born Shorey, 26, is top of the shopping list for Hammers boss
Alan Curbishley after helping Reading to their highest league finish ever.
But Reading will fight to hang on to their left-back (right), who makes his
England B debut against Albania tonight. Royals director of football Nicky
Hammond said: "Players will go from us this summer but we are not planning
to lose anyone we don't want to. It is not our plan to lose key players.
"You cannot make a final decision until an offer comes in but our main
players are contracted."
Shorey started 37 of Reading's 38 league games as they finished eighth in
their first Premiership season - and narrowly missed out on a place in the
PFA team of the year. Meanwhile, West Ham keeper Robert Green has had to
ditch his summer break to join up with the England B squad. Green, 27,
admitted: "I did have a nice holiday lined up - but this is an offer you
can't turn down. "Hopefully, it's recognition of a good run of form which
I've had and which the club's had."
