Blair Turgott helped England defeat Ivory Coast in their final FIFA U17 World Cup warm-up fixture
14.06.2011

Blair Turgott has helped England prepare for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in perfect fashion by defeating Ivory Coast 5-4 in their final warm-up fixture. The West Ham United midfielder provided two assists during a thrilling match played in Mexico City ahead of the tournament, which begins on Saturday 18 June. England will tackle Rwanda in their opening Group C match in Pachuca on Sunday before taking on Canada and Uruguay in their other two group-stage games. Over the past week, John Peacock's squad have spent plenty of time preparing for the competition, holding a training camp and warm-up fixture to grow accustomed to the warm weather in Mexico. Turgott said Monday's victory over Ivory Coast - secured through two goals from Crewe Alexandra's Nick Powell and one each from Manchester City's Alex Henshall and Liverpool pair Adam Morgan and Jack Dunn - had been the perfect preparation for the tournament. "We won 5-4 against Ivory Coast. I didn't score any goals, but I did set-up two," he told whufc.com. "It was good game. We got into an early 2-0 lead and were in the driving seat 20 minutes into first half, but then they came back and made it 4-2 before half-time. "As it was a friendly, we made eight changes at half-time, but I stayed on though and played most of the second half. We came back to 4-4, then I came off for the last five minutes, during we scored the winner. "I played most out of the team and thought I put in a good shift and a good performance. As a squad, the lads showed great character to come back, so now it's bring on Rwanda!"

The FIFA U17 World Cup will be screened live by British Eurosport, starting on Saturday 18 June at 9pm.

Slater backs youngsters to shine

Stuart Slater believes his fellow Academy graduates can play starring roles in 2011/12
14.06.2011

Stuart Slater believes West Ham United's Academy graduates could play a starring role in next season's npower Championship promotion push. Slater has earmarked the likes of Jack Collison and Freddie Sears as having the potential to seize the moment and help the Hammers to regain their place in the Premier League. Now 42, Slater was a home-grown star himself who went on to make his mark for West Ham at the highest level. Before he had even graduated from the Academy, the talented midfielder made his senior debut at the age of 18 in October 1987, went on to make more than 150 first-team appearances and help the club to gain promotion to the old Division One in 1990/91. The Suffolk-born player, who is set to take up a coaching role within a new full-time Academy and Conference South club Chelmsford City, has challenged his modern-day successors to do likewise by rising to the occasion next season. "Obviously, they have proved themselves in the Premier League, but it's just a shame a lot of the other lads didn't have the mentality of the boys who had come through the ranks and know how much it means to the club," he told West Ham TV. "There were a lot of players who under-performed and a lot of injuries, but these guys know what it's like to play for West Ham and the fans' expectations so it will be good to build a team around a lot of these guys. "I like Jack Collison, Freddie Sears has done well since he came back [from his loan spell at Scunthorpe United in December 2010] and there are a few boys just knocking on the door. "Five or six years ago, those boys were coming through the ranks in the Academy, but this season could be their time."

At the other end of the experience-scale, Slater believes Sam Allardyce is exactly the right man to lead West Ham back to the promised land of the top-flight. The experienced former Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers manager has earned a reputation as a hard-working and determined character who will demand nothing less than 100 per cent effort from his players. Those traits, said Slater, will be vital if West Ham are to regain a winning mentality and bounce back at the first attempt. "Sam has been at some big clubs and has been successful throughout his managerial career. It's a great opportunity with the support and the Olympic Stadium and it's a great club. "All these years that we've been coming, Premier League football is a must now. We would like to play with style, but if we don't do that and get promoted then I think the fans will be happy. "As long as we can play with a certain flair [then that's good], but we've got to work hard and a lot of the time last season people weren't playing for the shirt. We had people with some ability, but they went missing sometimes. "As long as they play for the shirt and we're promoted this year, I don't think the fans will care too much how we play. "These next few weeks are going to be massive. Sam and his staff will come in and I'm sure with his experience and expertise, we're going to be knocking on the door. I hope so, anyway."

West Ham United have secured Senegal centre-back Abdoulaye Faye on a free transfer
14.06.2011

West Ham United are delighted to announce the signing of Stoke City centre-back Abdoulaye Faye on a free transfer. The experienced Senegal international will join the Hammers after his contract expires at the Britannia Stadium on 30 June. The club expect to be busy in the transfer market as manager Sam Allardyce assembles a squad geared to win promotion from the npower Championship at the first attempt. Faye is expected to be the first of at least seven players the club hopes to sign this summer. Supporters will hear about every new arrival first on the club's official website - whufc.com - and Twitter feed here. The defender himself is delighted to have joined the Hammers. He said: "I am very happy to be here at West Ham - this is a great club, a big club and I cannot wait to get started here. For me to come here was no problem, I had other clubs offers, but I was happy to come here. "People may ask why as the team are in the Championship, but I am excited at the challenge to help get the team back to the Premier League, where I think the club belongs. The club also has a great fan base and I am looking forward to playing for them and giving my all on the pitch."

The first of those signings, Faye has enjoyed a successful career in English football with Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle United - where he worked under Allardyce - before moving to Stoke in August 2008. He is looking forward to working with his old boss again, adding: "Sam is a very good manager and I am very pleased to be playing for him again - he gave me a chance here in England and he is someone who gives you confidence. "He is also someone who I know the players will respect and I think he will bring a lot to the club - the fans will see this also. I can't wait now to get playing for the club, for Sam and for the fans and do my best for everyone."

The defender made his name in French football with RC Lens and FC Istres before being brought to Bolton - initially on loan - by Allardyce in July 2005. The 33-year-old spent two seasons at the Reebok Stadium, appearing in the UEFA Cup and making more than 70 appearances for the Trotters. Twice, Faye scored in Bolton victories over Arsenal as Allardyce's side finished eighth and seventh in the Premier League table. When the manager moved to Newcastle in the summer of 2007, he immediately moved for Faye, with the powerful defender featuring 24 times during his single year at St James' Park. Stoke splashed out £2.25m to snap up the 34-times capped international in August 2008, and Faye repaid the Potters by being voted the club's Player of the Season in his first year at the club. After an impressive 2009/10 campaign, Faye helped Stoke to reach the first FA Cup final in the club's 148-year history before leaving the Britannia Stadium at the expiration of his contract this summer. At international level, Faye has been a regular fixture for Senegal since making his senior debut against Zimbabwe in January 2006. After helping his country to fourth place at the 2006 CAF Africa Cup of Nations, he scored against Angola at the 2008 tournament.

Senegal international Faye, 33, was informed by the Potters he would not be offered a new contract this summer. He will arrive at Upton Park when his current deal expires at the end of this month. Allardyce has signed Faye on two previous occasions, having taken him to Bolton and Newcastle. The centre-back is relishing the prospect of linking up with the former Blackburn boss once again as the Hammers bid to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking. "I am very happy to be here at West Ham - this is a great club, a big club and I cannot wait to get started here," Faye told the club website. We're off - West Ham have confirmed their first signing of the summer. Stoke City centre-half Abdoulaye Faye has joined United on a free transfer after being released by the Potters. The 33-year-old veteran is well known to new Hammers boss Sam Allardyce, who first signed the 6'2" defender for Bolton in 2005.
Speaking to the club's website tonight, he said: "I am very happy to be here at West Ham - this is a great club, a big club and I cannot wait to get started. "For me to come here was no problem. "The club also has a great fan base and I am looking forward to playing for them and giving my all on the pitch."

The Senegalese defender made his name in France playing for clubs such as Jeanne d'Arc and Lens before being brought to England by Allardyce. After three years at Bolton, Faye spent time at Newcastle before joining Stoke, with whom his three-year contract ends next month.

West Ham have completed the signing of Abdoulaye Faye on a free transfer from Stoke City. The experienced centre-half will officially complete his switch to Upton Park once his contract with the Potters expires on 30th June. The move will see Faye link up with former boss Sam Allardycefor a third time, having previously worked with him at Bolton and Newcastle. Allardyce is in the process of piecing together a side he hopes will be good enough to take West Ham back into the Premier League at the first time of asking. Senegal international Faye is confident that he is joining a forward-thinking club and admits he is eagerly anticipating starting life as a Hammer.

Pardew in for strike duo
Newcastle boss confirms interest in Erding and Ba

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has confirmed his interest in Paris St Germain's Mevlut Erding and West Ham's Demba Ba. The Magpies missed out on top striking target Kevin Gameiro last week when he signed for PSG, but now he could look to one of their players instead. Turkish international Erding, who has also been linked to Sunderland, could be one of those to suffer from Gameiro's arrival and Pardew is now pondering a swoop for the 24-year-old, who cost PSG €9million when they signed him from Sochaux in 2009. "Erding has always been on our radar," Pardew admitted. "He's a very good player and that is all I will say at the moment." The Newcastle boss also revealed his disappointment at missing out on Gameiro, and he will be aware the likes of Lille and Rennes are also looking at Erding. "We had a bit of a disappointment with Kevin Gameiro as he has decided to go elsewhere. We made a fantastic offer to the club and to him but these things happen," he said.
"We tried very hard on that one, but we always knew there would be setbacks along the way and we have always had other people in mind, deals we have been trying to keep to ourselves for obvious reasons. "We are working extremely hard to make those deals happen and I'm pretty happy with how things have gone so far. We should have another signing finished in the next few days, and we will able to confirm that one as well."

Demba Ba wanted

He also confirmed his interest in Ba, who is understood to have agreed terms with both Newcastle and Everton. The 26-year-old is now deciding where his future lies, with Newcastle confident they can finalise a deal for him which would see him move on a free transfer following West Ham's relegation from the Premier League.
"Demba Ba has done very well since he came to England and he's a good player," he said. "I'm very much aware of him and I probably know what he is capable of more than most because I've known about him for a while, before he went to West Ham. "We're not the only club who are interested, but we are trying. There is always competition and we will keep plugging away. "If we can get him and another two in before the end of next week I'll still be looking for another two new faces to join us before the start of the season. "To get a player like Yohan Cabaye in so early has been a big bonus. Not many clubs have managed that sort of business yet so I'm very happy with that."

ABDOULAYE FAYE says he turned down a number of big offers to sign for his old boss Sam Allardyce for a THIRD time. Defender Faye, 33, becomes Allardyce's first signing as West Ham chief after leaving Stoke on a free. Big Sam first brought the Senegal star to England with Bolton in 2005 and signed him again at Newcastle. Faye said: "Sam is a very good manager and I am very pleased to be playing for him again. "This is a great club, a big club. I had other offers but I am excited at the challenge here to help the team get back to the Premier League where I think the club belongs." Allardyce is also interested in signing another of his Bolton old boys Ricardo Gardner. The Jamaican left-back, 32, is a free agent after seeing out his contract at the Reebok.

Magpies plotting Ba swoop

ALAN PARDEW is considering a bid for West Ham striker Demba Ba. The 26-year-old hitman was one of the Hammers' few shining lights last season, as the club were relegated from the Premier League. Ba scored seven goals in 12 league games after moving to Upton Park from Hoffenheim in January. Those performances caught the eye of Magpies boss Pardew, who admits he has been a fan of the Senegal international for some time. But the Toon boss admits he faces stiff competition from Everton and Italian side Fiorentina for Ba's services. Pardew said: "Demba Ba has done very well since he came to England and he's a good player. "I'm very much aware of him and I probably know what he is capable of more than most because I've known about him for a while, before he went to West Ham. Abdoulay Faye rejects better offers to help Big Sam get Hammers promoted

Abdoulaye Faye admits he turned down a number of big offers to join West Ham and is desperate to repay the faith which Sam Allardyce has shown in him during his career. Faye, 33, was prepared to drop down into the Championship to join up with his former manager and became Allardyce's first signing of the summer since he took charge at West Ham. Allardyce brought the Senegal defender into the Premier League back in 2005 when he was manager of Bolton and saw Faye became a major star for him at the Reebok Stadium. Faye joined up with Allardyce once again at Newcastle and is now hoping to make it third time lucky after joining the east London club on a free transfer from Stoke last night. Tony Pulis was reluctant to let the experienced defender leave the Britannia Stadium, but could not stand in his way once Faye knew of West Ham's interest. Faye said: "Sam is a very good manager and I am very pleased to be playing for him again. He gave me a chance here in England and he is someone who gives you confidence. "He is also someone who I know the players will respect and I think he will bring a lot to the club. The fans will also see this. Allardyce is hoping to bring in at least SIX more players as he looks to turn the club's fortunes around and help them get straight back into the top flight.

Newcastle are ready to pay Demba Ba's agents a staggering £2million if it will allow them to beat Everton in the race for his signature. The Toon have been quoted the massive sweetener by advisors to the former West Ham striker and are willing to fork out the extraordinary commission to get him on a free transfer. Rivals Everton are reluctant to go that far though - despite the fact that Ba is keen to join them. The tug-of-war has now turned into a battle over fees and personal terms. Both clubs will pay Ba close to the £4m-a-year wage package he wants.

Relegation might prove to be blessing in disguise
West Ham - Season in Championship could be just what Jack Collison needs
By Will Haine June 14, 2011
GiveMeFootball.com

The West Ham No.10 shirt is one held in incredibly high esteem by those at the Boleyn Ground, with the likes of Geoff Hurst, Trevor Brooking and Paolo Di Canio having made it so treasured. So, when Jack Collison was awarded the famous jersey last summer, it was quite an accolade for the young midfielder, who is regarded very highly indeed around Upton Park. However, after a serious knee injury, the 22-year-old missed almost the entirety of last season - making just three appearances at the end of the campaign - as the east London club were condemned to relegation. Unsurprisingly, a number of top flight clubs are reported to be monitoring the Wales international, while Collison will meet new Hammers boss Sam Allardyce to discuss his future with the club. West Ham will be desperate to retain the services of Collison as they look to secure promotion back to the Barclays Premier League at the first time of asking and, should he remain with the Irons, he is likely to be an important part of Allardyce's plans.

One person who believes Collison will benefit from a season in the Npower Championship is former Hammers favourite Don Hutchison, who is a big fan of the midfield maestro. "I think Jack is a fantastic young player," Hutchison told West Ham TV. "He had a bad injury last season and I know he went through a bit of a bad time with his injury. "It's good to see him back and it might be good for him. A season in the Championship might help progress and help him to learn about the game. "Everyone thinks they know the game as a young boy, but it's not until you're 25 or 26 that you learn the game. Maybe a season in the Championship will be good for him."

KAMIL TEVFIK
Bucaspor to West Ham
THE INSIDER says: 2/5

The former Fulham and Millwall youngster went off to Bucaspor last summer and, after a difficult start, has transformed himself into one of the form players in the Turkish Super Lig. He is a Turkish Cypriot born in London, and is also known as Kamil Ahmet Çörekçi and has alerted Hammers boss Sam Allardyce (above). Tevfik's story is one of determination. After being released by Millwall he went to Bucaspor where the manager decided he was best suited to the reserves without even seeing him play. But after designing his own strict training regime Tevfik got himself noticed and a new manager gave him his chance from which he hasn't looked back. Championship sides were alerted to his form and have sent a few scouts to monitor his progress and one or two Premier League sides have since done the same. He is highly rated in Turkey and seen as one for the future in the national team having figured at youth level and Under 18s. However, he is interested in a return to England to prove himself again. West Ham, Reading and Blackpool are possibilities.

Fire sale! Scott Parker tells West Ham he wants out, while Demba Ba and Thomas Hitzlsperger are free to go

West Ham are resigned to losing first-team players Demba Ba and Thomas Hitzlsperger with the pair set to follow Scott Parker out of Upton Park on free transfers this summer. The relegated Hammers also face a further setback after star player Scott Parker has formally told the club of his desire to leave. Turkish side Fenerbahce are the only club to have bid for the midfielder but the England international wants to stay in the Premier League according to the Telegraph . Tottenham and Arsenal have shown in interest while Liverpool also made an enquiry for the 30 year-old, who has three years left on his contract. However all three sides have baulked at the £8million-10million being demanded by West Ham. Newcastle and Everton are leading the race for Ba, with the Toon more willing to pay the Senegalese striker's demanded £46,000 wages.

The Hammers have already reported Sunderland to the Premier League claiming Sunderland have made an illegal approach for the 26-year-old – which the Black Cats denied – but cannot stop him leaving for free once the clause is activated. Any deal involving Ba will be complicated by a history of failed medicals which originally proved a problem ahead of his transfer to Upton Park in January. Hitzslperger joined West Ham from Lazio on a free last summer on a three-year-deal but was out for the majority of last season with injury. The German international is understood to earn £45,000-a-week and although he can leave on a free, new boss Sam Allardyce is less concerned about the German's departure.

Newcastle look set to beat competition for Demba Ba after agreeing personal terms - report

Goal.com

West Ham striker looks set to grace the Premier League again this season after agreeing a contract with the North East club, although agents fees threaten to postpone the move. Newcastle United look set to seal a move for West Ham striker Demba Ba after the Senegal striker reportedly agreed personal terms on Monday night. However, the report in The Times states a disagreement between agents over fees threatens to stall the deal from being completed for the time being. The North East club fought off interest from Everton, Fiorentina and local rivals Sunderland for the player's signature and West Ham look set to recieve a minimal fee for the player as he had a relegation release clause in his contract. Ba scored seven times for the Hammers last season but could not prevent them from suffering relegation, which resulted in the immediate sacking of manager Avram Grant. The Magpies are also thought to be willing to cash in on £4 million-rated midfielder Kevin Nolan, who has two years left on his current deal as they look to lower the average age of the squad.

'We need a goalscorer'
WHUFC.com
Julian Dicks believes a goal-hungry striker will be vital to West Ham
United's promotion hopes
13.06.2011

Julian Dicks believes a prolific striker should be top of West Ham United's
shopping list this summer. The legendary Hammers left-back admitted that a
number of players will likely be heading for the Boleyn Ground exit door
during the close-season, but also expects new manager Sam Allardyce to be
busy himself in the transfer market. Dicks, who played alongside the likes
of Tony Cottee, Jimmy Quinn and Trevor Morley during his time with West Ham,
thinks a goal-hungry frontman is vital to the club's chances of gaining
promotion from the npower Championship at the first attempt. "I think we
need a goal-scorer who is going to score us 25 goals-a-season and, for me,
we need a centre-half, a left-back and a right-back," he told West Ham TV,
"But obviously it's down to who stays. You can always strengthen in every
position but, for me, we need a striker who is going to score us plenty of
goals. "I think any club finds it difficult to bounce back at the first
attempt but with Sam we definitely have the right man to do that. With his
signings that he will make, he will bring in players who will work hard and
big players, I think he is probably the right man for the job. "Hopefully he
can get the boys playing football and instil that work ethic, then who
knows?"

Dicks also praised the club's decision to appoint Sam Allardyce as the
Hammers' 14th full-time manager. The 42-year-old expects the former Bolton
Wanderers boss to instil a determination and spirit in his squad that was so
evident in Dicks' own 326 appearances in a claret and blue shirt. "I think
Sam has got a proven record. He did remarkably well at Bolton and I think
with 'Big Sam' you get what you see. He is a passionate man and can instil
passion in the players and improve their work ethic. I think he'll be a good
signing for us, hopefully."

Allardyce is well-known and respected for his use of state-of-the-art
coaching methods, but Dicks believes nothing can beat old-fashioned hard
work when it comes to putting together a successful football team. "I don't
know about all the modern technology and all the things as they are used
now, but if it works and the club do well then people will think it's good.
"I'm old-school, though. I used to turn up, train and go home and that was
it! We obviously didn't have all these new fandangled things, but if it
works then it can only be good. "The thing is that you've got to do the
basics at any level. Last season, to many of the players didn't do it, but
Sam will make sure they give 100 per cent which is the least you should do
as a footballer. "You have to have the better players, for me. If you have
the better players and you combine that with hard work, you've obviously got
a chance of getting out of the division. "Just because we're West Ham
doesn't mean we have a divine right to be promoted. We'll have to work hard
in every single game."

Barrera on target in Mexico win

Pablo Barrera hit the net as Mexico defeated Costa Rica to reach the
CONCACAF Gold Cup last-eight
13.06.2011

Pablo Barrera was on target as Mexico defeated Costa Rica 4-1 to reach the
quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The West Ham United winner scored
El Tri's fourth and final goal just 38 minutes into their third and final
Group A fixture in the American city of Chicago, swapping passes with Fulham
full-back Carlos Salcido before rolling the ball into the net. Barrera added
to two goals from RC Deportivo La Coruna winger Andres Guardado and one from
former FC Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez - heading home a Barrera corner
- as Mexico continued their perfect start to the North and Central American
championship finals. Mexico have scored 14 goals in their three group-stage
fixtures and look to be in with a superb chance of retaining the title they
won in 2009. El Tri will face the third-place team in either Group B or
Group C in the quarter-finals on Saturday, with the fixture taking place in
East Rutherford, New Jersey. Jonathan Spector's United States will also
progress to the last-eight if they avoid defeat against Guadeloupe in Kansas
City, Missouri, on Tuesday. Elsewhere, Marek Stech and James Tomkins were
both handed a watching brief as their nations began their challenge for the
UEFA European Under-21 Championship title in Denmark. Stech was an unused
substitute as Czech Republic beat Ukraine 2-1, while Tomkins also sat on the
bench as England snatched a late 1-1 draw with Spain. The Hammers pair could
meet when the Czechs take on England in Group B in Viborg on Sunday. Before
then, however, the Czechs face Spain and England take on Ukraine on
Wednesday.

Tigrish Tony ignores frosty reception

Tony Fernandes has indicated that he is still looking to invest in West Ham
United - despite having been given the brush-off by David Sullivan and David
Gold.
Fernandes approached Sullivan and partner David Gold last month with view to
purchasing the club - a bid announced via Twitter and one that Gold
described as 'completely bizarre and disappointing'. "It's clearly the wrong
way to go about doing deals," said Gold, whilst Sullivan also scoffed at
Fernandes' interest, adding that "we think any serious bidder would make it
in private".

But according to Fernandes he remains entirely serious about West Ham.
Speaking today, the 47-year-old owner of the Lotus racing team insisted that
his offer remains on the table. "It was a good offer, they didn't like it,
but the ball is in their court," he said. "If Sullivan and Gold ever want to
talk to us, we are there. "We think it was something worth looking at and if
they look at it in its entirety then I think we could have brought a lot of
expertise to West Ham. "But they didn't look at the offer in its complete
entirety and think about it, about the value we could bring to the club. "I
am open to anything. It's now up to them to come back to me. It's a case of
'I'm willing to help, it's now up to you'."

Fernandes also defended his decision to announce news of his bid via Twitter
adding: "They thought it was wrong, but we were transparent. There was
nothing in the end to say don't put it on Twitter. "I was constantly being
asked by fans about whether I was putting in an offer."

Tony Fernandes wants talks with West Ham owners
By Ian Parkes, PA
Monday, 13 June 2011
The Independent

Tony Fernandes has told West Ham co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold the
ball is in their court regarding his bid to buy the club. At the start of
the month the Malaysian entrepreneur announced he had made an offer to
purchase the Hammers, remarkably on the day Sam Allardyce was confirmed as
the club's new manager.
That sparked a war of words between Fernandes and Gold/Sullivan, who
initially claimed he had not made an offer only to then later suggest it was
"a joke". Sullivan then further attacked Fernandes, who had used his Twitter

"PR". Hammers chairman Sullivan later added: "Tony Fernandes wanted to buy
51% of the club for two bob. "He thinks somehow that we are desperate to
have him involved or desperate for the small amount of money he offered for
51% of the club."

However Fernandes, the owner of airline AirAsia and Formula One marque Team
Lotus, believes Sullivan and Gold were impetuous with their response as they
failed to assess his bid in full. "We put an offer in, it was a good offer,
they didn't like it, and the ball is in their court," said Fernandes. "But

Skysports.com understands West Ham are eyeing a move for Anthony Gardner
after a move to Birmingham broke down. Birmingham had lined up a deal for
the free agent, but the move has now collapsed in the wake of Alex McLeish's
resignation at St Andrews. Gardner spent last season on loan Crystal Palace
and the Eagles have expressed an interest in taking him back to Selhurst
Park following the expiration of his contract at Hull. However, West Ham
have now entered the race for the 30-year-old and are hoping to lure the
former Tottenham man to Upton Park. Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is in the
market for defensive reinforcements after seeing Matt Upsonleave the club
this summer and Gardner could be an ideal replacement.

Release Clauses Activated!
June 14th, 2011 - 4:08 am by S J Chandos

West Ham Till I Die

Jason Burt, in the Telegraph, has confirmed that both Demba Ba and Thomas
Hitzlsperger have activated the relegation release clauses in their West Ham
contracts. This means, of course, that the club will not receive a fee for
either player. It is particularly disappointing because it was felt that
these two players might be persuaded to give West Ham a full season to help
them regain their PL status at the first attempt. Thomas Hitzlsperger
because he felt that he morally owed the club, due to being sidelined for
most of last season; and Demba Ba, because of the uplifted £50,000 per week
wage allegedly on offer in his new West Ham contract!

Sadly neither the moral nor the financial imperative worked! Burt reports
that Sam Allardyce is less concerned about Hitzlsperger's exit, but wanted
to retain Ba. His departure has just made Allardyce's job that little bit
more difficult, but never mind, no doubt we will get by without him.
Reports state that Newcastle and Everton are battling for Ba's signature,
while there is also interest from Serie A . Of course, Ba still has to
negotiate the medical and, considering that he has failed his last two, the
outcome is far from certain. No doubt, the successful club will just put
the necessary insurances in place and/or insist on a termination clause if
the event of Ba's knee breaking down?

Elsewhere, we are being linked with the two Gardners. Ex-Spurs centre half,
Anthony Gardner and the ex-Bolton left back/winger, Ricardo Gardner! While
Faye and JL Samuels are still reported targets. Personally, I would prefer
the latter duo to the former. We are also supposedly chasing Everton's
Yakubu, whose salary demands are too excessive for Leicester City. There is
a suggestion that Craig Bellamy is available from Man City for £4m, now he
is the type of player that we need to help get us out of the Championship.
Although, one would have thought, Allardyce and Bellamy are an unlikely and
potentially expolsive combination?

On the outgoing transfers, Scott Parker and his agent are presumably
awaiting the opening bid from Spurs. There has not been a bid to date, but
it is still very early days. It will be interesting to see who does
actually end up bidding for him? The circling PL vulture(s) will
undoubtedly try to secure Parker for a bargain fee, citing his age and lack
of resell value. We need to dictate the fee and tell them to take it or
leave it. After all, he is a current England international and they do not
come cheap! If a fee cannot be agreed then Parker will just have to stay!
But if we get the required £8-10m bid, then we should most definitely cash
in on the player and use the transfer monies to improve the squad.

Of the other expected departures, West Ham have apparently not received bids
for either Carlton Cole or Rob Green. No doubt they will come, but perhaps
Sam Allardyce will now try to convince the duo to stay? We ideally need to
retain a couple of our established stars. It will also be interesting to
see how Piquionne reacts, whether he agrees to stay or pushes for an summer
exit. I did not initially see Piquionne being Allardyce's type of player,
but who knows? I certainly feel that, as long as he applies himself, he
could do very well for us in the Championship.

The club needs a lift, they should go the extra mile and bid 4.5m to land
Kevin Nolan. He is a player that has been there and has got the
Championship winners medal to prove it. Nolan is reportedly a very good
club captain and also a positive influence on his team mates. We need to
secure his services and install him as club captain. A central midfield of
Nolan, Noble and Collison is a promising combination. Ally that to some
pace on the flanks and in attack and things will start to look a lot more
positive for next season.

Talking of positive performances, Barrera has been pulling up trees for
Mexico recently. Barrera is a promising player, with pace and the ability
to score outside the box. As I have said previously, he is not stuck out on
the wing for Mexico, but has the freedom to play through the middle and he
does it to very good effect. Perhaps Allardyce can get the best out of the
Mexican International? Barrera may seem a little light-weight for the
Championship, but his pace could help ameliorate that. Elsewhere in the
squad, we still await the decisions of Gabbidon and Spector, who are both
out-of-contract. They have been offered new contracts, but apparently have
not made a decision as yet. No doubt Cardiff City is calling Gabbidon,
while Spector has reportedly had a good offer from a German club. So, we
shall have to wait and see what transpires there?

It appears that things are just ticking over at West Ham at the moment. Sam
Allardyce is on holiday and starts in ernest on 20 June 2011. Hopefully,
things will start picking up the pace after that. He certainly needs to sit
down with the likes of Green, Cole, Noble, Collison and Tomkins and convince
them to sign up to his project at West Ham. We all knew deep down that the
likes of Ba, Parker and Upson would leave. But beyond them, we need to
start firming up the existing quality core of the squad and look to
supplement it with some experience, steel, pace and clinical finishing.

Morale hit rock bottom at the club last season. The 'Avram Grant
experience' turned very good players in to de-motivated, also rans. One of
Allardyce's key tasks will be to rebuild that morale and instill a team
spirit and will to win. The progress that Allardyce makes on this front
will be almost as important as his achievements in the transfer market.
Because as last season proved, you can have quality players, but if the team
spirit's not right then they are not necessarily going to deliver.

And they really do need to deliver next season, big time. The Hammers fans
have suffered far too long!

SJ. Chandos.

Tony Fernandes: My offer to buy West Ham still stands

Tony Fernandes has told West Ham co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold the

Newcastle 'to sign Nigel Reo-Coker' if Kevin Nolan joins West Ham
Metro.co.uk

Newcastle will offer a deal to Nigel Reo-Coker if West Ham improve their
offer for Kevin Nolan. Sam Allardyce is keen to be reunited with the former
Bolton man at Upton Park, and could make a new £5million bid after his
initial £3million offer was rejected. It emerged last week that the
midfielder had turned down a new contract at St James' Park, with two years
still remaining on his current deal. The 28-year-old is said to be looking
for an improved five-year deal, with Newcastle only prepared to offer a
two-year extension. If Nolan is sold, the Magpies will move to replace him
with Reo-Coker, who is a free agent after being released by Aston Villa.
The 27-year-old fell out of favour at Villa Park under Martin O'Neill, but
featured regularly under the stewardship of Gerard Houllier, making 30
league appearances, and frequently deputized for Stiliyan Petrov as captain.
However, he was still deemed surplus to requirements, and the one-time
£8.5million signing from West Ham could represent an attractive option to a
lot of clubs searching for an experienced midfielder.

Scott Parker wanted by Fenerbahce but holding out for top flight club
Everyone wants to play in the Premier League, says Parker
Hammers receive no offers for Carlton Cole and Robert Green
Jamie Jackson
guardian.co.uk, Monday 13 June 2011 21.18 BST

West Ham United are yet to receive a bid for Scott Parker from any English
club, with the only offer coming from Turkey despite the reported interest
from Tottenham Hotspur. Following West Ham's relegation to the Championship
under Avram Grant last month Parker was expected to lead an exodus of the
club's better players.
Yet a highly placed source at Upton Park confirmed that Parker has not been
the subject of any official approach from a domestic club. West Ham are also
yet to receive any bids for Parker's fellow England internationals, Carlton
Cole and Robert Green. While the offer for Parker is thought to have been
lodged by Fenerbahce, the 30-year-old is not interested in a move to Turkey
as he understands the best chance of retaining his England place is by
continuing to play in the Premier League.
Following England's 2-2 draw with Switzerland in the Euro 2012 qualifier on
4 June Parker confirmed he will speak with Grant's successor, Sam Allardyce,
regarding his future. "That is where everyone wants to play, in the Premier
League, and I'm no different. I'm sure he'll give me a call and we'll go
through things," he said.

The future of Thomas Hitzlsperger is also unclear after the German
midfielder was made an offer by David Sullivan and David Gold, the owners,
to become club captain and the focal point of the team. Allardyce, though,
is clear he wants a core of English players to drive the challenge of
gaining instant promotion back to the Premier League, with the new manager
hoping to recruit six to eight players before the new Championship season
starts in early August.

Freddie Sears, the England Under-21 striker who was voted the club's Young
Hammer of the Year, believes there is a foundation at West Ham for Allardyce
to build on. "If you look at the young players at the club and hopefully
everyone will stay so hopefully we can get a core to the team next year and
have a real go in the Championship," he said. "Hopefully we can try and push
on and go on from where we are next season. Obviously, at the minute it's
all doom and gloom because we've been relegated but there is a bright future
at the club."

Demba Ba and Thomas Hitzlsperger allowed to leave West Ham United on free
transfers
By Jason Burt
9:58PM BST 13 Jun 2011

Demba Ba and Thomas Hitzlsperger have activated relegation clauses in their
contracts at West Ham United allowing them to leave this summer on free
transfers, while Scott Parker has formally told the club that he definitely
wants to go also. Parker has already turned down a move to the Turkish club
Fenerbahce, who are the only club to have so far bid for the England
midfielder, and wants to remain in the Premier League. Offers are expected
from Tottenham Hotspur and, possibly, Arsenal, while Liverpool made a
tentative inquiry for the 30 year-old but are no longer believed to be
interested. A stumbling block is that, given his age, clubs are reluctant to
pay the £8 million-£10 million being demanded by West Ham for the player who
has three years left on his contract. It had been thought that Ba would join
Newcastle United this week but they are facing strong competition from
Everton, although they are less willing to pay the £46,000-a-week being
demanded by the 26-year-old Senegalese striker.

West Ham have already reported Sunderland to the Premier League claiming
they made an illegal approach for Ba — which is hotly denied — but cannot
stop him leaving for free once he activated the clause. Ba's history of
failed medical may prove a problem for some clubs and his deal to West Ham
was complicated by his injury record.

Hitzlsperger joined West Ham on a free transfer from Lazio last summer, on a
three-year deal, but the midfielder's season was decimated by injury. The
29-year-old German international is understood to earn £45,000-a-week and
although he can also leave on a free it's understood that manager Sam
Allardyce is less concerned about his departure.

Allardyce is quickly assessing the West Ham squad with bids already made for
Newcastle United midfielder Kevin Nolan and a £1.25 million offer for
Blackpool striker DJ Campbell, which also activates a relegation clause
allowing him to speak to other clubs. It's understood that West Ham will
have to significantly raise their offer for Nolan to interest Newcastle — a
fee of £4 million has been mooted — while Campbell is reluctant to play in
the Championship having had a successful season in the top-flight.

West Ham are also considering moves for a number of experienced players who
are available on 'Bosman' rulings have seen their contracts expire including
the experienced Ricardo Gardner, who worked under Allardyce at Bolton
Wanderers', as they desperately try and ensure an immediate return to the
Premier League.
West Ham also expect Matthew Upson, Robert Green, who has interested Aston
Villa, and Carlton Cole — wanted by Queens Park Rangers, West Bromwich
Albion and Stoke City — to leave during this transfer window as they rebuild
their squad and reduce their wage bill.

Hutch keen on Collison
WHUFC.com
Don Hutchison believes Jack Collison can follow in his footsteps and become
a regular goalscorer
12.06.2011

As a player, Don Hutchison forged a reputation for being a talented and
determined midfielder with an eye for goal. The Scotland international
netted 69 times in 524 appearances for club and country, including 17 in 110
matches during two spells with West Ham United. Fast-forward to the present
day and a fit-again Jack Collison is the pretender to Hutchison's throne as
the Hammers' goalscoring midfielder. The 22-year-old has scored five goals
in 52 games since making his debut at Arsenal on New Year's Day 2008 and is
more than willing to make probing runs beyond the strikers or arrive late in
the penalty area to get on the end of a team-mate's pass.
While his career has been disrupted by a serious knee injury that kept him
out of action for much of the 2010/11 season, Hutchison believes the Wales
international can make his mark - and get his name on the score-sheet
regularly - next term. "I think Jack is a fantastic young player," the
40-year-old told West Ham TV. "He had a bad injury last season and I know he
went through a bit of a bad time with his injury. "It's good to see him back
and it might be good for him. A season in the Championship might help
progress and help him to learn about the game. Everyone thinks they know the
game as a young boy, but it's not until you're 25 or 26 that you learn the
game. "Maybe a season in the Championship will be good for him."

Talking of the Championship, Hutchison is confident that the appointment of
Sam Allardyce as the club's 14th full-time manager should ensure that West
Ham's stay in the second tier is a short one. The former Liverpool, Everton
and Sunderland man also dismissed claims that the new boss will rely on
direct, unattractive football to guide the Hammers back to the Premier
League. "I think it's positive. I think Sam is a good appointment and I
think he's what West Ham need. He's a no-nonsense character and it's a shame
that he's been labelled as a 'long-ball merchant' because I don't think he
is that type. "Sam plays to his strengths and sometimes you have to do that
and I think this season is one of those times. This season, it's imperative
that we get out of the Championship and back into the Premier League. "It
doesn't matter which way we do it, it's going to be a hard task and
hopefully Sam will pull it off."

That Was The Season That Was Part II
KUMB.com

By: Gordon Thrower

Gordon Thrower continues his look through the 2010/10 season. He's suffered
and now it's your turn....

December 2010

When we last left things we'd just beaten Wigan in a match that we were
promised would "Save Our Season". We then went on to beat Man Utd 4-0 in the
League Cup. Ok we're still bottom but with an away trip to Sunderland coming
up there's surely room for a spot of cautions optimism isn't there?
Especially as Wolves' 3-0 defeat to Blackburn gets us off the bottom of the
league in advance of our trip to the Stadium of Light.

We lose 1-0 at Sunderland and return to the bottom on goals scored. So much
for optimism.

Manchester City are next to visit the Boleyn. Manchester City are also the
next to leave with all three points with a 3-1 win, the low point being what
was effectively an og from Rob Green as a Toure shot rebounds off the post
and off the luckless 'keeper. James Tomkins nets a consolation header.

Rumours start to fly about in the newspapers, and also The Sun, that Grant's
future at the club is measurable in games rather than years, the number
being three. The message emanating from our old chum "an unnamed insider" is
that Grant has been told that unless he wins one of the next three matches
it'll be P45 time.

Our next attempt to win on the road for the first time since television was
in black & white involves a trip to Blackburn Rovers who have recently
parted company with Sam Allardyce about whom little has been heard of since.
The first clue that a transfer window may be about to open is spotted as
Valon Behrami realises how nippy it is and pulls up lame in the pre-match
warm-up. The comically-named Ruud Boffin, fresh from his role in "Carry On
Up The Laboratory" stands in for the injured Rob Green in goal as a Junior
Stanislas equaliser gains us a point at Ewood. Creditable though the point
is it's not enough to haul us off the bottom at Christmas which,
traditionally, spells relegation for the team concerned. Still, those of us
who like to clutch at straws point out that the one team to avoid the drop
having been bottom at yuletide did have a name beginning with the word
"West".

I spend Christmas Day under a duvet on the sofa at my parents' house
shivering with a bout of gastric flu and a temperature approaching that
found in the middle of the Large Hadron Collider when it's working at full
tilt, whilst the rest of my family have a good time over at my brother's
place. This, of course is of no real relevance at all for West Ham's season
but I just thought you ought to know how much I was suffering at the time –
in case what I remember of the next match was actually some fever-inspired
hallucination rather than a genuine occurrence.

I huddle under the duvet in front of the box as we win 3-1 away at Fulham.
Yes an away win. Really. This is such an unlikely occurrence that Steven
Hawking is forced to completely reassess his equations relating to how the
universe works. After a first goal in 5 years from Aaron Hughes gives the
home side an early lead, the space-time continuum is thrown into all sorts
of confusion as two goals from Carlton Cole either side of a Freddie
Piquionne volley give us three points on the road for the first time since
there was something decent to watch on the box on a Saturday night.

The four points thus far over Christmas aren't enough, however, to dampen
the rumours over Grant's future. The rumours continue to rumble in the
background much in the same manner as your correspondent's stomach is doing.

Buoyed by an away win we go on to take the lead against Everton against whom
a number of squad players are fielded. One of these, Radoslav Kovac, messes
up a scissors kick prompting a Tony Hibbert own goal. However, Herita Ilunga
hobbles off injured in the first half, never to be seen again amidst dark
rumours suggesting the player might not actually be quite as young as his
birth certificate suggests. Everton equalise through Seamus Coleman and
three points are turned into one once more in another "wine into water"
exercise.

The year ends with Grant confirming that Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell will
definitely be arriving in the first week of January 2011. Definitely.

January 2011

We start the New Year with our semi-decent form continuing, defeating fellow
strugglers Wolves 2-0 at the Boleyn. A comedy own goal from Wolves' Zubar
has us all in stitches as, deceived by Carlton Cole's failure to tap-in from
two feet the ball rebounds off the hapless defender and into the net from
three. A late Freddie Sears goal seals the points and lifts us up out of the
bottom three for the first time in four months.

We venture to the North-East full of confidence from the recent spell of
form. We return with that confidence shattered as all the good work of the
festive period is undone as Newcastle take all the chances they create as we
put in a performance that scores high on the gutless-o-meter. Matthew Upson
publicly apologises for the performance up at St James' Park. "Sorry" says
the skipper before adding "is my contract up yet?"

The rumblings over Grant's future get louder as we all notice that that
Sidwell chap appears to have got lost en route between Birmingham and E13.
It transpires that he's signed a permanent deal with Fulham. Karren Brady
makes suitable "we didn't want him anyway" noises in her weekly column in
The Sun.

Upson is on the bench as we play Barnsley off the park in the first half to
take a 1-0 lead in the 3rd round of the Cup. However, as is becoming
depressingly common, the second half is a different story and the visitors
give a good account of themselves before a late Piquionne second puts us
through to the 4th round. Post match, when asked to comment on the Sidwell
situation Grant has a dig at his boss saying "maybe I'll comment on it in my
newspaper column".

Having got rid of the Salford mob , we find ourselves in the semi-final of
the League Cup. Things are going well when we play Birmingham City off the
park in the first half. However, things turn ever so slightly pear-shaped in
the second half. City equalise and Obinna is sent off for a petulant
Beckham-esque kick out at Sebastiene Larsson. However the lead is restored
as Carlton Cole adds to his impressive list of comedy goal incidents. City
'keeper Ben Foster, clearly expecting a shot from Cole rather that the
complete cock-up that actually occurred somehow manages to let the ball
squirm into the net to give the Irons a slender lead to take into the second
leg. Cole's post-match interview is something of a revelation: "I didn't
strike the ball cleanly" Carlton helpfully informs us, adding "I think Ben
Foster helped carry it over". Really Carlton? D'ya think? Cole goes on to
cause apoplexy amongst lexicographers and English teachers up and down the
country by introducing the world to the new adjective "overchuffed" to
describe his emotions at the end of the match.

Lest we forget, the transfer window is still open and in comes 30 year-old
Wayne Bridge on loan from Man City to fill the problem left-back role.
Bridge is set to make his debut against Arsenal in a match that Sky are
claiming will definitely be Grant's last. Sky's David Craig (isn't he the
bloke who played James Bond?)(No, that was Sean Connery – ed) claims that an
unnamed insider within the club (yup him/her again) has sent him a text
saying that Martin O'Neill has been asked to take over. The rumours see the
odds on O'Neill plummet to 2/1 ON, despite The Guardian announcing that
their particular "senior board member" has advised them that Grant "won't be
sacked today".

Not only does nobody outside the club have a clue as to what's going on but
it appears that nobody inside has much of a clue either and the boardroom is
the one place leakier than our defence.

On the pitch we go down 3-0 at the Boleyn to Arsenal, Bridge having a 'mare
of a debut, including giving away a penalty in a performance described as
"the sort of thing you'd expect from someone who had spent the previous
night out on the tiles with a female member of a popular beat combo"

Meanwhile, Brady hits back at Grant in her Sun column claiming that she has
no involvement in team affairs. Brady goes on to attribute criticism of her
using her Sun column to air the club's dirty washing in public as "sexism".
Perhaps I should have used a metaphor other than the one relating to laundry
just then.

The confusion off the pitch continues. The Daily Telegraph claims that
Martin O'Neill is about to accept the manager's job whilst other rumours
suggest that Sam Allardyce is now also in the frame. Yeah like THAT would
happen. Sources close to O'Neill suggest that the Irishman is "furious" over
the way that his potential involvement has been leaked left right and centre
by persons within the club. O'Neill is later seen buying a barge-pole with
which he intends to not touch the job. As a result the board issue a
statement backing Grant. Notably, it's a statement that lacks any hint of
permanence.

In a busy month for Brady, she is next accused by the Daily Mirror of having
sent texts to players advocating the removal of Grant as boss. The club
angrily denies any such texts have been sent and m'learned friends in the
legal profession have a quiet word with the men in the Mirror.

It's also a busy month for m'learned friends in the criminal side of the
legal profession as Manuel DaCosta is formally charged with a common and
sexual assault charges over last year's trip to Faces.

A move to the Olympic Stadium becomes a little more likely, despite a late
bid by Tottenham to hijack the deal by coming up with a proposal that
involves demolishing the stadium and shoving athletics over to the National
Sports Centre at Crystal Palace. Nobody within athletics is overimpressed by
Spurs' promise to send over a few tins of Dulux to tart-up the crumbling NSC
stadium and the North Londoners hopes of moving somewhere a lot nicer are
dealt a further blow as Crystal Palace announce their own plans for the
venue.

Another hurdle is cleared (see what I did there) as Newham Council approves
the obtaining of a £40m loan to be granted to the joint venture company to
be set up by the club and the council to convert and run the stadium if the
deal is approved.

After all the furore about Grant, Brady and the Olympic Stadium it comes as
something of a relief to get back on the pitch as the side are denied
another away win by a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw up at Everton. Jonathan
Spector and Freddie Piquionne give us a 2-1 lead late on before yet more
shoddy refereeing from Peter Walton sees Piquionne dismissed for celebrating
a goal. The ten men can't hold out and Felliani's late equaliser leaves us
wondering once more what might have been.

More transfer news as the club seem set to sign Dember Ba in from
Hoffenheim. Ba, who had previously failed a medical at Stoke, looks like
coming in on loan. The club celebrates by offering free printing on all
shirts bearing the striker's name, a bout of generosity strangely absent at
the time the Hitzlsperger deal was announced.

Barry Hearn, never one to miss an opportunity to make a few bob, becomes the
latest person to try to profit from the Olympic Stadium move. Hearn moans
that a move to the Stadium by another club could put his lot out of
existence. A little bit like when Clapton Orient took over Leyton FC's
ground at Brisbane Road then. Hearne's stance is shown up for the quick-buck
grabber it is when it transpires that he has previously written to the
Olympic authorities giving his full backing for Spurs' plans to move there.
Funny that.

Meanwhile the shy, retiring Karren Brady makes a rare foray into the public
eye as a major row erupts at Sky Sports where Richard Keys and Andy Gray are
caught making sexist comments about female linesmen and Karen Brady on an
open mic. "Karren Brady? Do me a favour love" Keys is heard to moan shortly
before expressing astonishment that the female gender is actually allowed to
vote. "There'll be one in as Prime Minister before you know it" he
prophesises. Gray is sacked as other examples of sexist behaviour are
revealed and Keys eventually resigns.

It gets a bit busy on the transfer front. The Ba deal is put on hold whilst
some sort of insurance wrangle is sorted out. It is believed that half the
board want to use the service provided by the fat bloke that sings "Go
Compare" whilst the other half preferred the little telephone on wheels that
plays a tune. Meanwhile, O'Neil finally arrives at the Boleyn. That's Gary
rather than Martin (who has another "L" anyway. Or is it the other way
round?). The midfielder comes in on a permanent deal worth a reported £1.5m.

The second leg of the League Cup semi-final finally comes round and a really
good goal from Carlton Cole that contains absolutely no comedy elements
whatsoever puts us 3-1 up on aggregate. However Birmingham go all long ball
in the direction of freakishly tall forward Zigic and, aided by yet another
substandard Howard Webb performance, the home side end up 3-1 winners and we
have to look to the proper Cup for a hope of Wembley.

The hairy and bald combo of Keys and Gray turn up on the intelligence-free
zone that is TalkSport radio. Keys complains that he's tried to call Brady
to apologise for his remarks but that she wouldn't return his calls. Brady
points out that she was otherwise occupied – "perhaps I was doing the
washing up when he called" she quips, proving that Avram Grant is not the
only stand up comedian in the club.

Perhaps wary of getting on the wrong side of the missus, Paul Peschilolido
(that's Mr Karren Brady to you) claims that the deal whereby SuGo took over
the club was purely the result of his wife's genius.. Well that and SuGo's
money presumably.

Meanwhile things get even warmer on the move front. In a move that comes as
a surprise to absolutely nobody Valon Behrami's latest injury heals up
instantaneously the second the ink dries on the contract ratifying his move
to Fiorentina. The club strike out a deal with Spurs to take out of favour
Robbie Keane on loan until the end of the season on the proviso that we sign
him permanently if we stay up. Dember Ba finally completes his on-off deal,
the original loan arrangement becoming a permanent deal with payments
depending on how many appearances his dodgy knee allows him to make.

We return to FA Cup action and are slightly flattered by a 3-2 win over
Nottingham Forest who at one stage lead 2-1. Our goals come from an unusual
Victor Obinna hat-trick, his first being an accidental deflection from a
Mark Noble effort, his second being a Konchesky-esque mis-hit cross from the
ouchline and his third coming from the penalty spot.

Transfer deadline day finally comes and goes and the most notable event of
the day is the turning down of a £10m bid from Spurs for Scott Parker.

As usual a quiet January then.

February 2011

As is now the rule the club announces its 25 man squad for the rest of the
season. Benni McCarthy and Herita Ilunga both miss out and it appears that
they have both played their last matches for the club. It is reported that
McCarthy has been offered £1m and all the pies he can eat to cancel his
contract and go away. McCarthy refuses the deal saying "that's not enough
pies".

Some good news for Dean Ashton at last as the unlucky striker manages to
prise an "undisclosed amount" from the FA as an out of court settlement for
the injury that ultimately ended his career. The club's own claim for
compensation is still ongoing.

Victor Obinna's hot streak continues as the club make it two away wins in a
season, beating Blackpool 3-1 up at Bloomfield Road. Steven Hawking goes
back to the drawing board as Hammers move off the bottom once more. However
it's back to the bottom as Wolves beat Man Utd and we go down to a
disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Birmingham despite dominating the 90
minutes.

Meanwhile there's more shenanigans as it is revealed that Julien Faubert –
once, lest we forget, of Real Madrid, is facing a fine for disappearing
during the defeat to Birmingham. No, I mean really disappearing, as in
leaving the ground. Although not selected for the original squad, a
pre-match warm-up injury to James Tomkins meant that there will be a spare
place on the bench. However, it transpires that Faubert has already left for
home, citing an unwell child in mitigation.

The Olympic Legacy people finally come to their long-delayed decision to
award the club the stadium after all the drug tests have finished in 2012.
It's not a good day for Spurs as Harry Redknapp inexplicably fails to
convince the courts that the tax evasion charges against him ought to be
thrown out despite giving his word that everything was above board and
legal. For some strange reason the courts prefer to believe that the
evidence supplied by HM Revenue & Customs at the very least demands an
explanation. That's one explanation rather than the three different ones
given so far.

An incredible match takes place at the Hawthorns.
A terrible first half defensive performance sees us go into the break 3-0
down with Winston Reid in particular looking for all the world as if he's
been plucked from the obscurity of, oh, say the New Zealand international
squad, and plonked straight into the Premiership. The second half is,
however, a different matter as goals from Ba (2) and Cole level the scores
to rescue a point .
Post match, it transpires that Avram Grant has left the half time team talk
to Scotty Parker, presumably on the grounds that all those funny stories and
jokes that SuGo went on about when they appointed him might just have been
deemed to be inappropriate at the time.

We take a night off from league woes to beat Burnley 5-1 to qualify for the
FA Cup quarter finals. The biggest news of the night is the long-awaited
debut of Hitzlsperger who gets the two biggest cheers of the night, the
first when his name is announced pre-match the second, when he puts away a
30 yard screamer at the Sir Trevor End. Carlton Cole adds to his comedy goal
tally by completely over-hitting his first touch of a Noble through ball
before sliding in the loose ball after the 'keeper fails to gather. Cole
then adds a second, though his dipping volley isn't nearly as funny as his
first. Winston Reid and Freddie Sears complete the scoring, Wayne Bridge and
Rob Green add to the comedy goals tally for the season by getting in a
tangle to gift Burnley a consolation.

Not so good news for David Gold who is taken to hospital with blood
poisoning. As a result he misses a cracker of a game as goals from Parker,
Ba and Cole give us a 3-1 win at home to Liverpool. It's arguably our best
performance in the league of the season and one that pumps up the mood of
optimism in the camp. It probably does Gold the power of good as well.

Steve Lomas is appointed as reserve team boss. The former player, who spent
the better part of nine years as a Hammer, replaces Alex Dyer who is off to
help another former Hammer, Chris Powell, at Charlton. Benni McCarthy also
has talks over a possible move to Charlton but once more is seen wandering
away muttering "that's not enough pies."

So February ends with the team through to the quarter finals of the Cup and
with a good win over Liverpool under the belt good times are just around the
corner.

Aren't they?

In Case You Had Doubts About Diouf
June 13th, 2011 - 5:09 am by Iain Dale
West Ham Till I Die

On the flight from Sydney to Darwin I read Jamie Carragher's autobiography.
I thought you might be interested in his comments on Allardyce target (if
reports are to be believed) El Hadgh Diouf…

"The first concern I had about Diouf was his pace. He didn't have any."

"After a few training sessions with Diouf I'd have walked to Man City to get
Anelka back."

"Do you remember being at school and picking sides for a game of football?
We do this at Liverpool for five a side games. Diouf was 'last pick' within
weeks. 'You paid £10 million for him and no one wants him in their team,' I
shouted at Gerard (Houllier). 'Says it all'. He didn't react. He knew he'd
made a mistake."

"In all my years at Anfield I never met a player who seemed to care less
about winning or losing… His attitude disgusted me."

We don't want this lazy, rude, good for nothing player at West Ham. Is there
anyone out there who could disagree?

Fiorentina Closing On Demba Ba Print for later?
Sunday, 12th June, 2011
Insidefutball.com

Fiorentina appear to be closing on the signature of Senegal striker Demba
Ba. According to Corriere dello Sport, La Viola look set to conclude an
agreement with Ba's current club Hoffenheim and the striker himself will
surely be attracted to the idea of playing in Serie A. Ba spent the second
half of last season on loan at then-Premier League outfit West Ham United.
But despite a series of impressive displays, the hitman was unable to halt
the Hammers' side down into England's second tier. That spell in England
however was enough to further burnish Ba's growing reputation and it is one
which Fiorentina certainly took note of. La Viola's snaring of Ba would be a
significant coup and the powerful Senegalese could be expected to flourish
in Serie A.

Scott Parker 'holding out for Spurs transfer'
Metro.co.uk

Scott Parker is sitting tight and waiting for the chance to join Spurs,
despite West Ham receiving a transfer bid from overseas. Tottenham boss
Harry Redknapp had an offer for the England midfielder rebuffed last summer,
but the player has now been told he can leave Upton Park following the
Hammers' relegation. It was thought Redknapp would jump at the chance to
sign the Footballer of the Year, but he has not made a move yet. According
to the Sunday Mirror, the only bid West Ham have received since the end of
the season was from Fenerbahce. Parker rejected the chance to speak to the
Turkish champions, as he is not interested in moving abroad.
The 30-year-old's preference is to stay in London and join Spurs, but it
remains to be seen whether the White Hart Lane board is prepared to match
West Ham's £8 million valuation. Redknapp has been credited with an interest
in Real Madrid's Lassana Diarra and Everton's Jack Rodwell in recent days
and Tottenham's moneymen may decide it is better to go for a younger option
than spend a chunk of the transfer budget on a player with no resale value.

Newcastle and Everton in fight for Hammers striker Ba
By COLIN YOUNG

Daily Mail

Newcastle hope to fend off late interest from Everton to sign West Ham's
Demba Ba. The move will hinge on whether the striker, 26, can pass a
medical. Newcastle have swooped after Lorient's Kevin Gameiro joined
Paris-Saint Germain. Sportsmail revealed Everton's interest in Ba last
month, but it's believed he wants around £4m a year. The Hammers have
rekindled their interest in Everton striker Yakubu, 28, as Leicester are
struggling to meet his wage demands of £35,000 per week.

Daily WHUFC News - 12th June 2011

Cottee backs 'Big Sam'
WHUFC.com
Club legend Tony Cottee believes Sam Allardyce is the right man to lead West
Ham United to promotion
11.06.2011

West Ham United legend Tony Cottee believes Sam Allardyce is the perfect
manager to lead the Hammers to promotion in 2011/12. The former West Ham and
England striker has kept a close eye on Allardyce's progress at Bolton
Wanderers, Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers through his role as a Sky
pundit, and is a keen admirer of his work. Cottee explained that the new
manager's work ethic, determination and professionalism are exactly what is
needed to arrest the club's recent slide into the npower Championship. "I
think Sam is a good appointment," the 1985/86 Hammer of the Year told West
Ham TV. "My own personal opinion was that I wanted either Martin O'Neill or
Sam Allardyce - I felt those two were the standout candidates. There were
some other good managers who were mentioned along the way, but I'm pleased
that Sam has got it. "I'm not going to stand here and say that Sam is my
best mate and I know him really well, but whenever I've come across Sam he
has been really friendly and said 'Hello' and hopefully I'll spend a little
bit of time with him as the season goes on. "I think it is a great
appointment for the club."

Allardyce and the club's Board have already begun work on assembling a
promotion-winning squad ahead of the new season. While a number of players
are expected to leave the Boleyn Ground over the summer, Cottee believes the
man known throughout the game as 'Big Sam' will be able to attract some
quality performers to east London. And when the season begins on Saturday 6
August, the striker said Allardyce is exactly the right manager to get the
most out of his squad over what will be a demanding 46-game season. "There
is obviously a lot of work to be done, which we all know. There's no point
in me going on about last season because it's over and done with and we all
know how bad it was - it was a horrendous season for everyone involved at
the club. "I always say that I'm a fan first and foremost, I'm not a player.
I'm a fan and I want what's best for the club and I honestly believe that,
in the appointment of Sam Allardyce, we've given ourselves a real chance.
"We've got what you would call a Premier League manager to manage a
Championship club and he's a no-nonsense manager. He won't take any
shortcomings from any of the players and I think that is probably what's
needed. "It's important that the players, whoever does stay at the club,
show the right attitude and application because the Championship is a really
tough league. I cover it week-in, week-out in my role for Sky and I know
exactly how tough it is. "The first thing you need is a good manager to work
with the quality that we've got here and I'm sure he'll bring in a few more.
It's a great appointment, it really is."

Lee learning fast
WHUFC.com
Promising striker Elliot Lee is targeting the top after agreeing a full-time
scholarship with West Ham United
11.06.2011

With a father who played 21 times for England and a brother who made his
Football League debut in April, Elliot Lee has plenty of experience to call
upon as he tries to make his way in the beautiful game. The 16-year-old
centre forward has recently agreed a two-year scholarship with West Ham
United, the club he has represented for the past nine seasons. Under the
guidance of his famous Dad, the former West Ham, Newcastle United and
England midfielder Rob, and 19-year-old brother Olly, who enjoyed a loan
spell at Dagenham & Redbridge earlier this year, the teenager is ready to
take the next step towards following in their footsteps and becoming a
full-time professional. While a first-team debut may still be some years
away, the goal-hungry striker is already showing signs of fulfilling his
immense potential, scoring a hat-trick in the final FA Premier Academy
League fixture of the season at Chelsea and making an eye-catching
reserve-team debut at Blackburn Rovers in April. "I've been at the club
since I was seven-years-old so it's good news to have signed my
scholarship," Lee told West Ham TV. "I want to push on and hopefully cement
my place in the reserve team, if possible, and to keep on scoring goals. "It
was really good to get the hat-trick. [Academy Director] Tony Carr has
pushed me on into the Under-18s since Christmas from the Under-16s and I
think I've done quite well, so it's been good to play for them."

While Carr and his coaching staff concentrate on honing Lee's skills at
Little Heath, at home dad Rob and brother Olly ensure he keeps his feet
firmly on the ground.
"There is loads of banter about, what with all the football in the family,
but it's all good. My Dad is a great help to me. He speaks to me after every
game and he always offers me great advice and I'll always listen to him and
hopefully it'll lead me places."

Spector eyes Gold Cup bow

Jonathan Spector will be eager to feature when the United States take on
Panama on Saturday night
11.06.2011

Jonathan Spector will hope to make his 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup debut when the
United States take on Panama on Saturday evening. The Americans opened their
challenge for a fifth Gold Cup title on Tuesday, when neighbours Canada were
defeated 2-0 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. However, West Ham United
man Spector was not a part of the 18-man matchday squad, and the 25-year-old
will be eager to get onto the pitch against the Panamanians. Like the US,
their opponents also began the tournament with a victory, overcoming
Guadeloupe 3-2 at Ford Field. Saturday's clash is expected to draw a large
crowd to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida - the home of NFL American
Football side Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Should either side win, they will
advance to the quarter-finals of the 12-nation competition.

Green's Turkish delight?

Robert Green is being linked with a move to Turkish club Bursaspor. The
United 'keeper has one more year of his contract at West Ham to run but is
one of several players likely to be moving on before the start of the
2011/12 season. Reports from Turkey this morning suggest that the
31-year-old - whose wife recently gave birth to their first child - could be
on his way, with reports claiming that he has signed a two-year contract.
Turkish media outlet spor.mynet.com suggest that Green is set to replace
outgoing Dimitar Ivankov, who was part of the team who won the Turkish Super
League in 2010. Ivankov is also well known for being the third-highest
scoring goalkeeper of all time, with 42 goals - mostly penalties - to his
name.

American defender-come-midfielder Jonathan Spector is considering a move to
Germany. The 25-year-old - who was signed by Alan Pardew from Manchester
United in the summer of 2006 - has been offered a new contract by West Ham,
but could be on his way to Germany having been targeted by a couple of
Bundesliga clubs.
Speaking yesterday from the USA, where he is part of the American squad
taking part in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, Spector said: "West Ham have
offered me a new contract so at this point I'm just weighing up my options.
At this stage in my career it's important to go somewhere where I'm going to
play and get a good opportunity.

"West Ham is a fantastic club - and London is a great city - but I'm not
there for the city, I'm there for soccer. I'm certainly open to moving and
at this point I'm not ruling anything out. "I just want to see what my
options are and take it from there. If it's a better opportunity for me in
Germany than in England then it's something I'll certainly take up."

Spector has spent much of his time at West Ham as a reserve, however he has
been involved of some of the club's most memorable performances in the last
four years. On the final day of the 2006/07 season Spector came on as a
28th minute sub for George McCartney - at left back - and celebrated with
3,000 travelling Hammers as West Ham beat Manchester United 1-0 at Old
Trafford to secure their Premier League place for another season. The
following season he both featured and scored in West Ham's 5-0 win at Derby,
United's biggest win on the road for several years. And earlier this season
Spector was the star of the show as the Irons beat Manchester United 4-0,
scoring twice and having one disallowed in possibly his most memorable
performance for the club.

Magpies reject Nolan bid
West Ham fail with 'derisory' offer for midfielder
Last Updated: June 11, 2011 4:18pm

Sky Sports sources understand that Newcastle have turned down a 'derisory'
offer from West Ham for Kevin Nolan. The Hammers are preparing to mount a
push for promotion from the Championship after suffering relegation at the
end of the season, with new manager Sam Allardyce drawing up a list of
transfer targets. Nolan was believed to be one of the names at the top of
their wish list and a bid was lodged with the Magpies in an attempt to
secure his services. However, Newcastle have rejected the approach as they
value Nolan much higher and do not want to let their captain leave. It
emerged earlier this week that the midfielder had turned down the offer of a
new contract at St James' Park, with two years still remaining on his
current deal. But that is because he wanted an improved five-year deal and
Newcastle were offering a two-year extension. The 28-year-old has been
consistently impressive since making the move to Tyneside from Bolton in
2009, first helping Newcastle bounce back to the top flight and then
carrying on his fine form with 12 goals in the Premier League.

Beyond Derisory!
June 11th, 2011 - 8:48 pm by S J Chandos
West Ham Till I DI e

Newcastle Utd have apparently dismissed West Ham's initial £3m offer for
Kevin Nolan as derisory! Yet,we see unconfirmed reports this evening that
the very same Newcastle Utd have agreed terms with Demba Ba on move to St
James Park, a transfer that would see West Ham receive …… absolutely
nothing!

Now that would be beyond derisory!

Iif the reports are true, then Newcastle Utd are merely taking advantage of
the 'relegation escape clause' that Ba inserted in his contract on joining
West Ham in January. West Ham took a gamble on Ba, after he failed his
medical at Stoke City and his move there subsequently broke down. Other than
that he would have been stuck at Hoffenheim and denied the opportunity to
impress by scoring 7 goals in 11 PL matches. Perhaps West Ham should have
insisted on the relegation release clause only being activated by a minimum
bid of say £4m, at least the club would have got something, even if Ba's
knee condition meant that it was paid on an appearance basis.

Reports have speculated that Ba is seeking a £4m contract over three years
and that was too excessive for the likes of Everton. The £35m sale of
Carroll, allied to the fact that they are not paying West Ham a transfer
fee, means that they can easily meet Ba's terms. Oh well, I guess that we
may just have to put it down to experience and hope that we can do Newcastle
Utd a similar good turn at some point in the future!

Mind you, the deal could see one of Carlton Cole's possible transfer
destinations out of the window! However, knowing Alan Pardew's belief in
Cole's abilities, perhaps they might come back in for him as well. Now that
would be getting your own back, almost instantly! Perhaps West Ham should
try to tie up a part-exchange deal involving Cole and Kevin Nolan? It's a
deal that might happen? Although there are rumours circulating that Kevin
Nolan does not wish to drop down to the Championship again. Hopefully, that
is just Toon propaganda and, in reality, he would walk down to London for
the chance to work with Sam Allardyce again?

Elsewhere, it appears that West Ham are on the verge of signing two new
defenders on free transfers. The clue to their identity is that Sam
Allardyce has managed both players before. Step forward A. Faye and JL
Samuels, perchance?

West Ham star rejects move to Turkish giants
Published 23:05 11/06/11 By Paul Smith
The Mirror

England midfielder Scott Parker has rejected a move to Fenerbahce. The
Turkish giants made an official bid for Parker this week, but were
immediately knocked back by West Ham as the player had no wish to open
transfer talks with them. Hammers are holding out for a minimum £8million
transfer fee for Parker. And to date no offer has been received from any
top-flight Premier League club. The major stumbling block is Parker's age.
He is fast approaching his 31st birthday and potential suitors like Spurs
are refusing to splash out such a large amount of money on a player with no
resale value. Parker is under contract until 2014, but has a verbal
agreement that would allow him to leave West Ham following relegation from
the Premier League. His wages are also likely to be an issue as he earns
more than £70,000 a week. Ideally he wants to stay in London, but would only
consider moves to either Spurs or Arsenal.

New Irons' boss Sam Allardyce has started his recruitment campaign. He is
expected to sign Abdoulaye Faye on a free following the 33-year-old's
release from Stoke. Bolton's Ricardo Gardner is another target.

West Ham enter chase for Everton striker

West Ham are trying to hijack Leicester's bid to sign 28-year-old Yakubu.
Everton's Nigerian striker was on loan with the Foxes last season and had
been expected to make the move permanent this summer. But new Hammers boss
Sam Allardyce is interested in taking the hitman to Upton Park.

West Ham unlikely to secure marquee Toon signing
Published 23:05 11/06/11 By Paul Smith
The Mirror

Sam Allardyce's hopes of being reunited with Newcastle skipper Kevin Nolan
appear to be subsiding. West Ham's opening offer for the influential
midfielder amounted to just £1.5million, but Newcastle have not ruled out
selling Nolan if any club is prepared to meet their £4m valuation, which has
alerted London clubs QPR and Fulham. Stoke and West Brom are also monitoring
Nolan's situation. Although Allardyce and Nolan share the same agent as Andy
Carroll – Mark Curtis – it is unlikely to influence the 28-year-old, who is
reluctant to either leave Newcastle or drop down into the Championship.
Hammers co-owner David Sullivan was even prepared to subsidise Nolan's wages
out of his own pocket. He is earning £42,000 a week at Newcastle, but
Sullivan was prepared to make him the club's marquee summer signing and give
him a four-year contract worth £55,000 a week.

Despite the interest Nolan is happy to sign a new deal. As Sunday Mirror
Sport revealed last week, Nolan is torn apart by the situation and is now
beginning to feel he is being pushed out of the door. On Monday, Newcastle
claimed Nolan had rejected a new contract, yet their latest offer to date
would only come into effect at the end of next season and was dependant on
the club securing a top-seven finish in the Premier League. On that basis,
Newcastle were prepared to give Nolan a bonus and 12-month extension and a
reported rise of around £10,000 a week. Earlier this season, manager Alan
Pardew had assured Nolan that he would be offered a new deal, but it never
materialised leaving him in complete limbo. If Newcastle decide to sell
Nolan, it would cause untold unrest in the dressing room. He is very
influential and the players tend to come to him for advice and guidance.
When they were promoted from the Championship, he paid for a celebration
party for the players. When Toon had problems with Carroll, Nolan took him
into his home to look after him.

Newcastle slam West Ham's bid for Kevin Nolan
ESPNsoccernet staff
June 11, 2011

Newcastle United have turned down a "derisory" offer from West Ham United
for captain Kevin Nolan. The Hammers, who were relegated from the top flight
and will play in the Championship next season, made a bid reported to be in
the region of £3 million, which was dismissed out of hand. Nolan recently
rejected Newcastle's offer of a new contract and the club are now thought to
be willing to cash in on the midfielder, who has two years to run on his
current deal. The 28-year-old, who scored 12 goals last season, was hoping
to end his career at the club he led to Premier League survival, but has
been dismayed by Newcastle's reluctance to offer him the kind of contract he
believes he deserves. New Fulham manager Martin Jol is reported to be an
admirer of Nolan and has been tipped to also make a move for the former
Bolton Wanderers star.

Newcastle United 'agree terms' with Senegalese international Demba Ba
by Doocey on June 11th, 2011
TyneTime.com

There are reports swirling around both Twitter and a few radio stations that
we have signed Demba Ba for a minimal amount. The Senegalese international
is supposedly a free transfer now after a clause in his contract was
triggered, seeing him become a free agent courtesy of West Ham's relegation
from the Premier League. I'm sure most of us will have noticed that he
scored a nice few goals in his time at Upton Park and tried his best to keep
them in the top flight. In fact, he scored on the day they were relegated
from the Premier League – helping them into a two goal lead at the DW
Stadium only for Wigan to come back and secure a dramatic 3-2 victory.

I for one would like to see Demba Ba at Newcastle United because I think he
has the ability to grab a fair few goals a season, especially with Yohan
Cabaye behind him! I remember the day I saw that Stoke City were closing in
on his signature and I was quite disappointed because I had a feeling that
his talents would not be appreciated at the Britannia in any shape or form.

However, that move broke down due to a failed medical, Ba's knee which
caused serious concern for Stoke City manager Tony Pulis.
Only lately, there were more reports that the strikers knee could be one
injury away from ending his career – and we wouldn't want that to happen on
Tyneside, as we've seen that kind of stuff too many times before.

If we could keep him fit, and indeed manage to sign him up on a free
transfer with average wages: then it will be a very vgood deal for Newcastle
United.
He can score goals that's for sure, and we certainly need reinforcements up
front. He is a risk, but I'd be willing to take that risk as he's still
relatively young at 26 years old.

Providing he looks for normal wages, and we have some sort of clause in the
contract so that we don't get screwed if his knee explodes then I say why
not?
